The first item I presented was a shoe that the code had been scratched out. She rudely said is there another one on the shelf,I said no.She stomped off to look on the shelf,she didn't find another as I had told her.She stomped back over and stopped at a cart that had extra items,pick up a shoe. She scan the shoe and proceeded to scan the rest of my stuff without telling me the cost to see it I needed it.I asked how much was the shoe she looked at me frustrated and told me the price,I said ok and she kept staring at me.I said I need it and she proceeded. I had 3 items of the same nature and 2 had a discounted price and the 3rd on didn't. I asked if there was a reason for that,she picked them up even more frustrated and looked at them and said well only these 2 are discounted (which made no sense).I said I don't need the 3rd on since it's not discounted she took it and slammed it on the other side of the counter,without evening offering it to me at the same discounted price as the other 2.She finished scan my items I was waiting to swipe my card and she was bagging some of my stuff,I asked it the machine was ready for me to swipe my card.She looked up and did something to the machine and it was ready.I said to her ,you had a long day? Yeah I am ready to leave this place,and I walked away.I got our of the store and the lady that was behind me watched the whole process and I didn't know. She said to me that lady was so darn rude to you.I said I know but I kept my calm throughtout.I told her work in hospitality in customer service and no matter how long or what's going on with you the customer should never see it.I did want to cause a scene so I walked away. Desired outcome: She needs to be fired I am sure this is not the first time she acted this way. I should not be spending my hard earned money and feel this way.
Unfortunately Ross gets the same items, they can get a shirt that came in a month ago and the exact same one today, so the discount depends on when the item came in and can’t be price matched at the discount price unless they check and it was a missed markdown.

Ross store #0613 in Cape Coral Florida is filthy the floors are dirty with spills and stains and are disgusting the employees never mop the floors. The carpets look like they haven't been vacuumed ever. All the merchandise are dusty and have cobwebs. Ross to me was a fun and exciting environment to work in. I loved my team. The SM, ASM, and AS were all very professional and I was able to work at several locations, voluntarily, to help out and be 100 percent about Ross. I encouraged associates to strive for the best, work hard, and to follow the “Ross Process.” All with positive encouragement, empowered coaching, and leading by example. Associates felt comfortable with their store leadership.
At the end of Nov. 2022 our SM, who had worked for Ross going on 10 years, was moving onto a new chapter in their life with a different company. Very sad to see them go but happy for them. My ASM, who by all means was a model Ross employee, hard worker, and Role model to all associates, decided to step up and MAP for the open SM position for our store. The DM Suzie offered them an SM position in Derby, Ks (a smaller town outside of Wichita Ks.) less pay than other Store Managers and move the SM from Derby to our store. My ASM didn’t take the lowball offer unless they offered her a better deal and, to my surprise, was met with unprofessional behavior from the DM, HR phone calls to the store about overworked associates, and with all that going on, the flu, RSV and COVID were hitting the store associates and AS’ really bad.
My ASM was working open to closing shifts several days out of the past few weeks, running the store and contacting the DM to get help with coverage so they didn’t have to work such long days, during this 2022 hectic holiday season. They followed what they were trained to do, Following the Ross Store Processes that they were taught. What they thought was correct. The DM would rarely answer my ASM phone calls. They even resorted to company email. To no avail. Numerous unanswered emails and phone calls to our DM. Who is supposed to be there for us when we need help in situations like these. I believe the DM was, for lack of a better term, butt hurt because my ASM turned down their offer and what Suzie wants, Suzie has to get. In this situation it didn’t work out the way Suzie Hop wanted it to. My ASM was met with retaliation, phone calls from HR about anonymous complaints of overworked associates. Particularly the associates who are trusted to provide that excellent MOD (Manager-on-Duty) coverage for when we don’t have the coverage because of uncontrollable situations. Such as being out due to the flu, COVID, and other emergencies. No one knew that these Associates are only allowed to be scheduled a certain amount of time. Not even the associates who were presented with and accepted the role. So given the circumstances, my ASM utilized the associates she had, along with working full day shifts, to cover the stores requirements of store leadership and associate coverage. They even took the time to interview and hire new associates. My ASM was doing it all. With the bare minimum help of our DM. This all happened within 2 weeks, give or take a few days. From the beginning of December until 12/22/22. My ASM was terminated on 12/22/22.
Now if Ross Dress for a Less Upper Management can terminate their best employees for an honest scheduling error, they should be able to take the time to reflect on the situation. Ask ask themselves, how did we get here? Why wasn’t leadership aware of the broken rule? What can we do to help the situation in order to keep the employee? Rather than terminate. How can we get this very important information out to prevent it from occurring at other locations? And last but not least, “Is this a fair and ethical termination? A legitimate investigation should have been done and wasn’t. I would tell you any other day that Ross Dress for Less is the place to work, the place to grow, and a great place of employment for amazing talented people wanting to build a successful career in retail. but today I no longer feel the way that I did just one day ago. I’m ashamed to say I work for a company that can treat their associates and store leadership the way they treated my ASM. Disrespect, alienation, and one of the company’s biggest rule never to break, Retaliation. Suzanne Hop should not be in a District Management position due to her actions or lack there of and character throughout this whole ordeal. She doesn’t treat associates with respect, or compassion. She needs to be reevaluated when it comes to management. Her “my way or the highway,” outlook with employees just cost the company an amazing asset. And clearly has lost my respect with Suzanne Hop as one of their DM. She is supposed to be an exceptional role model and Leader for her district. Instead she is the reason the company will suffer. The company will lose a lot of good, hard working associates because of this wrongful termination. It’s really hard to find talent like my ASM has. This all could have been handled differently and in a more respectful manor.
Desired outcome: An in depth, legitimate investigation on DM Suzanne Hop. Move Suzanne Hop to a different position in the company more suitable to her talent and more qualified training videos on the the scheduling process and limits for all associates.
Customer service
On Dec. 20, 2022 at 10:31:57 am I and a line of customers waited in line to make our purchases when another customer came in with a return. I had already been in line approximately 15 minutes, the cashier told the lady with the return she would get her next even though she was not in line. After myself and other customer complained about this she called the manager who proceeded to help her with the return which took another 10 minutes. We were told they had to take turns with purchases and return by the cashier. At this time the line was around 15 people long. When I and another customer voiced how this was wrong the manager inquired in a very nasty voice if we wanted to contact cooperate at which point I told her that was my intention. She then called for two more cashiers to open registers but she never responded to our complaint. This is the Ross store #1663 in Greenville, TX. The manager's name is Rhonda and the cashier is Stacey. They were both very rude and so unprofessional to the customers. They offered no apology their action or the way we as customers were treated. Desired outcome: The manager needs to be an associate as she do not know how to manage her employees and the cashier does not need to work a cash register as she does not know how to interact with the public.
Service
Horrible absolutely horrible customer service, I wasn't greeted entering or exting the store, store is probably the most cluttered and out of wack Ross location that I have been to. I asked the fittingroom associate can I use the bathroom I was then faced with two lies. The bathroom was supposedly broken and not working then it wasn't clean. Which lie was it?
Desired outcome: I'd like an apology. Atleast communicate with your employees about the importance of customer service and how to better organize the store.
Racial profiling
On December 8th, 2022, I purchased items totaling $90.38 from the Ross Department Store in Destin, Florida. Once I arrived home, I realized that one of the items was a swimming suit that I could not fit, and another was a small wired spice rack that was not found among my purchases.
The next day, December 9th, 2022, I arrived at the store to make the return. The first cashier looked at my receipt, and when I told her my issue, she stated I needed to talk with the manager and gave the items to the manager.
I explained to the manager that I needed to make a return and that I also did not receive the wired spice rack. The manager looked at the swimsuit and decided I had stolen it because it did not have the tags.
I explained to her that I had taken the tags off. However, the items are shown on the receipt that I made the purchase. The manager states, “I don’t see it on here.” I pointed with my finger; open your eyes. It’s right here, plus I had circled the item lightly in pencil for her to see. She still insinuated that I had stolen the swimming suit by saying she had to look at the cameras. It is policy. When I asked her about the spice rack, she stated, “No one has said anything has been left,” We dialogued back and forth as I tried to defend myself while being humiliated and inadvertently being profiled and accused of being a thief.
First of all. I am a Christian, a pastor, an author, and a grief counselor. Not a thief.
When I called the store back and spoke to the actual manager, he told me that the person I spoke with was the assistant manager and that what I was telling him did not sound like her. He would look into the situation. His words were not promising. Therefore, I contacted the Ross Department store headquarters, spoke with Valerie, and reported what happened. She filed the complaint and told me it would take 4-5 business days and that someone by the name of Daniel would contact me. I am waiting to hear back from the main office.
12/12/2022 I contacted the Ross Department Store Headquarters to follow up and spoke with Rose. She stated that the complaint had been sent to the head person that handles all complaints. I briefly explained what had happened and how it made me feel. She assured me that Ross does not tolerate that kind of treatment of customers, and she apologized to me on behalf of the store.
This happened to me, yet this is what their store mission is:

Very disappointed in how the enemy is using so many people in the world today to be so evil. Right is right, and wrong is wrong! We cannot remain silent when such behavior is directed at someone because of the color of their skin. What is sad to me is that the young lady was rude and showed no compassion, smile, or kindness. Yes, perhaps, she was having a bad day; however, that gave her no reason to make me out to be a thief when she had the receipt in her hand looking at it.
