Air Conditioner
On Sunday, June 13, we were out of town in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. When we arrived home late that afternoon, we learned our air conditioner was not working. That day the temps reached 95 degrees in our area with high humidity. Early on Monday morning, we called DOERLE'S HEATING & COOLING. The man came out and found the compressor had blown. There was oil at the bottom of the unit and an odor of something burnt. The unit was not fit to be repaired.
Select Home Warranty then sent me the following agreement.
6.3.6. Air Conditioning (Central). This Agreement covers the primary floor air conditioning unit of the covered home. This Agreement covers the following air conditioning components: (i) Condenser Fan motors; (ii) compressors; (iii) condensers; and (iv)thermostats (v)Capacitors (vi)relays (vii)Contactors (viii)pressure switch (ix)thermistor (x) cut in switches (xi) transformers (xii) Start Assist (xiii) defrost boards (xiv) Blower motors.
My answer.
A freon leak would not cause the unit to blow out. It would be running but not cooling. When we returned that evening only the fan was running, the unit had blown.
Again, I send the invoice of the unit being checked on April 26, 2021. I do this every year.
Generally, high temperatures at the compressor terminals. The wiring entrance is sealed and insulated at the shell of the compressor by glass. An electrical short, bypassing the motor windings, generates enough heat to melt the glass and allowing system pressure to blow the terminal and seal assembly out. All compressors have a cover over this assembly. It should always be in place to prevent physical damage and guard against injury in case of failure of the terminal/seal assembly. The wiring Terminals on a hermetic compressor are the weakest link. A leak in freon would not cause the following.
TECHNICIAN FOUND SHORTED COMPRESSOR.
FOUND BAD RUN CAPACITOR.
FOUND BAD START RELAY AND START CAPACITOR.
Not mentioned but I can send a picture: Oil on the bottom of the unit. WOULD YOU EXPECT TO FIND FREON IN THE UNIT? Of course not.
NEEDLESS TO SAY: THEY HAVE NOT ANSWERED. IN FACT THEY HAVE OFFER NOTHING, BUT HAT HAVE STOPPED ANSWERING MY EMAILS.
Desired outcome: Select Home Warranty advertises they pay an average of $150 for repairs, and $5,500 for replacement. Not happening if you loose Freon because of a compressor blow out.
They refuse to terminate my policy
Select Home Warranty try to reject all claims. If anything costs more than $225 they send you a check for that amount. Therefore don't plan on coverage for any appliances. They also don't provide coverage for anything that has the diagnosis "leak". If you claim a garage door service, then that is the only garage door they will service in the future (any other garage door will not be covered by them). Because of the amount of loopholes written into their T&Cs I hope to shed some light before someone else decides to consider purchasing a home warranty through this company. I am now trying to cancel the policy and they keep trying to talk me out of it and refuse to cancel the policy. I requested to terminate the policy over 2 weeks ago and they didn't act on it. I had to call them back again and they refused to listen to my request and kept trying to sell me on keeping the policy. I have never dealt with such an awful service or company.
Desired outcome: To have my policy cancelled and get a refund for the remaining 2 years I paid upfront to them.
Failure to send out a technician to repair my maytag washing machine
On Wednesday morning, June 23, 2021 my washing machine would not spin after the rinse cycle. I immediately called and filed a claim for this repair. My claim # is [protected]. This claim was approved for repair by Select Home Warranty. They sent me a copy of the Repair Dispatch on June 25, 2021 with First Rate Appliance. I called to set up an appointment with them on the cell phone number provided of [protected]. I did not get anyone on the other end, but left them several messages over the next several days, eluding to my claim # [protected] and asking them to call me and set up a repair time that they could come and repair my washing machine.
On July 1, 2021 I contacted Select Home Warranty and told them that no one from First Rate Appliance returned any of my calls that I left messages with. SHW person tried to call them and could not get an answer either. They told me they would continue to reach out to them and find out when they might come to fix my washer. They asked me to give them 2 days to find out what was going on.
On July 5th, I called SHW again and got a representative and they told me that First Rate Appliance was on a medical leave and they would not be available for repair till after July 4th. Again the representative tried to contact them on their cell phone while I was on the line and could not get anyone to answer the call. At this point she told me that they would continue to get in touch with them. At this point I am really frustrated and asked her if they can assign my repair to another company, she said for me to give them 1-2 days and if they can't get a response from First Rate Appliance, they would assign another repair company. Well, 2 days went by and never heard from SH Warranty.
On July 9th, I called SH Warranty again the lady assured me that they would find a different technician. Again, she tells me to give them 1-2 days. I was frustrated with the same 1-2 day story, and asked her why I can't get approval for my own technician. She didn't give me a reason but said she understood my frustration and she would assign another technician for my repair job in 1-2 business days.
Today is July 13th, and still I have not heard from Select Home Warranty for an assigned technician for my repair.
Desired outcome: I want them to approve me to find my own repairman immedately, which they have done in the past with a claim for my oven.

It is a warranty scam. I had an issue with the dryer and they send a tech to repair it. he spoiled the whole system its not drying and left. after numerus calls still no solution for the issue.

I have purchased platinum plan for my client, covers everything in the house. Air conditioning has shut down and not working, Select Home Warranty has sent their own technician, and he has determined, unit needs to be replaced. Select Home Warranty, refusing to replace the unit. The company's slogan is, if we can't fix it, we will replace it for free.property address is 7943 Woodlake Ave, West Hills, Ca 91304.

I just bought this policy in April I called them on 6-19 to start a claim they told me it would be 24 to 48 hours before i would hear from the tech, since it was late on Friday I waited until Tuesday to call Select they told me to call the tech D35 Service, I called waited an hour on hold took the option of a call back, which never came, called they today waited on hold forever then their representative said it would be July 1 before the tech would come. I told her 1 tech to service the Oklahoma City area was unacceptable and i was not waiting 12 days to get my stove repaired, I called Select Home Warranty and got a song and dance, I cancelled my policy and requested they my premium be returned will see in 3 to 5 days. This warranty company is a joke good thing that it was not not my AC i would be dead before they would be here.
This company is a big scam, will turn them to District Attorney of NJ
Insinkerator garbage disposal leaking water (3 years old)
On Wednesday June 16, 2021 I submitted an on-line claim to Select Home Warranty requesting service on a leaking garbage disposal. I received an email stating that they received the claim and would respond within 24 hours. The claim was assigned a warranty number ([protected]). The following day I resub-mitted the claim and once again received an email stating they had received the claim and would respond within 24 hours. the claim was assigned another warranty claim number ([protected]). A third claim was submitted after not receiving a call with the same results and assigned another warranty claim number ([protected]).

Warranty Denial
I purchased my policy on 03/17/2021 and sent a claim in for my dishwasher on 05/14/2021 via email and telephone. I didn't receive any communication within the required timeframe stated in the contract, so I called them and they said the company they first contacted to make the service call didn't work in my area and they would have to find another service provider.
On 05/20/2021 a service technician came to evaluate why my dishwasher was not working. He found a defective control and latch assembly and will require replacement of these two components to resolve the issue and are covered in my contract in section 6.2.4. Dishwasher after the initial 30 day waiting period. It was 58 days after purchasing the contract 03/17/2021 until I made the claim 05/14/2021. On 05/21/2021 I received an email from Select Home warranty stated my claim was being denied, since in section 10.1, Furthermore, you agree that during the first 30 days of coverage, no coverage will be provided for replacement of entire systems or appliances, or replacement of evaporator coils, condenser coils, compressors, control boards, motors of any kind. My claim was not submitted in the first 30 days
of the start of the contract on 03/17/2021, but was submitted by me 58 days after the start of the contract. In section 6.2.4. Dishwasher.
This Agreement covers all modules, components and parts of the dishwasher necessary to the functionality of the dishwasher. (i)Control board (ii) pump (iii) switches (iv) drain pump (v)temp control (vi) heating elements (vii) drain lines
Excluded: (1) racks/rollers.
The two parts the service technician found to be defective that needed to be replaced was the control board and door latch which are covered.
I just cancelled the policy this morning and they said I would receive $300.00 back out of the $450.00 the policy costed me and an email to confirm the policy has been cancelled.

Stay away from this company and they do not have the best coverage limits for a home warranty policy.

I placed a claim almost two months ago about my heat pump. was told I would be hooked up with a repair company with in 48 hrs. I have been told you have no one to help me. Since then have also placed a call about my washer once again you can not help me. Was told I can hire my own company and hope to be paid back. This is total crap, have been running space heaters and had my highest electric bill ever. Now its hot and have no AC. been taking my wash to laundry . Im tired of this and it has gone on way to long. I am a single mother of two I can not afford to pay for repairs that's why I used my tax return to pay for your service. Electrical light on the inside of my house
SHW sent Omega Electric to my house to check out an electrical issue. They said its an outside problem. That SHW wasnt responsible for outside repairs. My light an light switch are on the inside! I would like SHW to take care of their business! The Omega electrician was only here 15 minutes. Im not sure he even made a proper diagnosis. To begin with, when I signed up with SHW they assurred me that they would take care of the outside of my house. And specifically ask them if they covered the plumbing lines to the street and they said yes! So, now, what is their problem?

I paid for a full year of home warranty to this company. I've received nothing but poor customer service with every contact I've had with them.
I filed a claim on April 29, 2021, for a/c issues. It is now May 24, 2021, and they are still giving me excuses. No a/c repair - no nothing.
Each time I speak with a representative, I am scolded and spoken to rudely. All this company has done so far is to quote every loophole they possibly can.
I do not want to get my own repair person, as I have to pay more up front and then am not guaranteed what they will pay. I did this last year with a plumbing issue, and it took weeks to receive a reimbursement check!
This is unacceptable!
I purchased this plan in good faith, but this company is not standing up to its promises and it doesn't seem intent to do so.

Horrible company. You do everything you can to not pay on legit claims. Contractors are not veted and half the time didn't show up on time or at all. You offer $150 on a $650 hvac repair bill then when it was repaired it still didn't work.
Took months to replace a dishwasher and get contractor to fix sump pump which you gave zero dollars towards.
HVAC system has been down for a month and there are elderly women that live there. Your requirements are ridiculous.

Do not do business with Select Home Warranty. I have not filed a claim but the problems have started even before that. I was conned into a 5 year warranty for $1875.00 which I was told would be a discounted price if I pay it all up front. Plus, if I did it all upfront I would get a free year of service. $1875 was charged to my card but now an additional $46 is being charged like I was paying it monthly. I called and spoke to a character named Ed Coleman from whom I received a flowery e-mail when I first signed up. Now that he was called, he was very brusque, did not even want to identify himself (asking instead "Have we spoken before?" etc) and did not provide me with the answers I needed. I called to discontinue service and after fielding many opportunities and offers for if I'd stay with Select, I was told that an e-mail would follow (I even agreed to the $75 cancellation fee just to get rid of them). No e-mail yet! I may have to file a dispute with my credit card company for the extra charges that Select is charging me. I can just imagine if I had a claim that needed to be resolved., ..Run, , don't walk away from this company. Fraud at its finest.
Home Warranty Coverage
I filed two claims with Select Home Warranty over the course of one year. In the first case, my furnace broke down. Select Home Warranty insisted on having several years of professional maintenance records before they would cover the cost of repair or replacement.
In the second instance, I had a hair clog in the sink. The plumbing company that Select Home Warranty sent to me wanted to replace 10 feet of pipe in the crawl space for several thousands of dollars. The next day I called a different company to come and they removed a hair clog in the sink within minutes. Select Home Warranty also stated that they don't cover pipes under the house. Aren't all pipes under the house?
Select Home Warranty does not cover basic issues, such as hair clogs. Also if you want to cancel with them, they charge you a $75 cancellation charge. They are completely useless. Save your money to pay for your own technicians.

I am nearing the renewal of my current home warranty company so I decided to shop around to see if I'm getting a good deal with my current company. I signed up for a quote with Select Home Warranty and subsequently received a call from a salesperson. He tried to sell me the 3 and 5-year plan stating that the 5-year plan would be best at $1995. He provided the list of coverages and stated how the plan was amongst the best and listed their affiliation with a sports team. The offer sounded good but I still wanted to shop around with this being the first company that I'd contacted. When I stated that I would not make a decision today the salesperson abruptly hung up the phone! How rude! If I was considering this company at all this person helped me to make my decision immediately!
Service
We originally opened a claim March 30, 2021. We had someone come out. Select denied claim. We resubmitted claim. They dispatched someone else. The person canceled three times. I'm the meantime we had to open claim at least four times because they continued to deny claim. FOR NO REASON! We can't get a hold of a supervisor. They beat around the bush regarding putting a supervisor on phone. They finally asked us to look for a service provider for our pool. We had someone come out and diagnose problem. Between the time we called the new technician to come out and the time he did, we received an additional three denials. What are they denying? We can't resolve this issue.

Repair services
Please do NOT spend your money with this "Home Warranty" company. As a new customer to Select Home Warranty I am very disappointed and upset that I spent my money purchasing a policy with this company. This company has reimbursement issues, "hidden" probation periods of service, unexpected costs issues, misleading and lack of information when speaking with personnel, as well as poor communication when being transferred to different departments. In any "emergency" repair situation Select Home Warranty is NOT the company to call. Heaven forbid if there is a leak or plumbing issue in your home, you would have an entire swimming pool in your home before Select Home Warranty would send someone over to repair, IF they actually felt like taking the time out of their busy schedules to find a plumbing service nearest to you. Their "reimbursement" is a joke. They will ask for invoices indicating the service that was performed (that you pay for AFTER you pay for the policy) and will give you a refund of only $150. If anyone wanted to pay $300 - $500 for a home repair, then a home warranty policy wouldn't be needed. Long story short, I felt like I had been duped, and wish that I had read more reviews about Select Home Warranty company before I signed up with this circus. One pro to this company is that they have a hell of a sales team, because the person that sold me the policy did a great job of selling the paper that the policy documents were printed on, and an excellent job at concealing what a fraud Select Home Warranty company really is.
Heating and ac unit
In the middle of winter with a pregnant wife and newborn on the way, I called to file a claim. Was told to have my own tech come and diagnose the issue. Was told I would get reimbursed $2000 if determined the heat/AC unit needed replaced. Diagnosis sent to them determined replacement was needed. Called them over and over to have the claim processed, and every time, they claimed they needed more info, and gave no $ toward the replacement. Then, after 3 months, with no heat or AC, and my newborn baby already 1 month old, they decided (against the diagnosis) that one part of the unit that needed replaced was not covered, and they denied my claim! Absolute racketeering/scam business. At the very least I was lied to throughout the process, and at the very worst, they have changed the record and notes to fit their agenda of not paying a dime, while I did everything I could on my end!
Desired outcome: If they were to send the reimbursement check, and upgrade my coverage to the highest level, free of charge, I will not cancel coverage.
heater needs gas valve
The gas valve needed to be replaced cost by there tech 672 was told no maintence records for last 3 years tech told me this is due to wear and tear could not prevent it they would give me 150 I was so fed up with company cause I had problems before I told manager James to cancel my policy with no cancelation fee this is the worst company I ever had something has to be done if they want to resolve this they need to fix this problem even though I cancelled it happened when my contract was in force I did tell them to keep the money they need it more than me

I called to see if the s]pool sweep is covered under the pool filtration system. If googled it does come up as a part of the same. I did not want to incur a service fee if it was not covered.

After many hangups, and stupids and conflicts of a previous claim closed months ago I just hung up on them when Fred said he was escalating the claim "with the picture" I sent upstairs.I sent no pictures and these people are idiots.
