I bought a home warranty to provide coverage for my home and appliance, after paying $399.00 for this bogus warranty and inquiring if they covered the usual appliances, and being assured that they did, I had the misfortune of needing their services. I had a problem with a hot water heater and the thermocoupling unit; which would cause the pilot to go out, with the result being no hot water. The unit was maintained regularly by the licensed plumber that installed it, but when the 4th unit went out, I decided to replace the unit. They refused to cover the expense. First they sent out their own tech, who was unable to reach them by phone to make his report. Nevertheless, they sent me a refusal email, even before a report was issued. This occurred in the the early spring, I have been trying unsuccessfully to get them to fulfill the terms of their warranty agreement. They refuse, coming up with bogus excuses, and invalid reasons as to why they don't cover these things. They claimed it was leaking, it was Not; they claimed it was rusty, defective etc., but refuse to honor the terms of their contract. This company is unscrupulous, and their home warranty is worthless.

The only claim they would pay was $100 on a dishwasher and they supposedly mailed out the claim twice. I never did receive my check and when I called and mentioned litigation the guy was really smug and basically scoffed at me saying they fall under New Jersey law. He basically said I couldn't touch them. They make it so you can't cancel without basically paying a termination fee which basically pays for the contract anyway so we kept it and never used it anyway. They are a scam bigtime.

They tried the cancellation fee tactic with me and I refused to pay! I will be contacting my bank to dispute!

They use non-reliable plumbers, don’t honor contract, and have horrible customer service!

They will give you several different answers as to what they cover! They don’t abide by what’s covered in the contract! Don’t waste your money won’t even cover basic plumbing blockages even though clearly stated in contract! One of the worst companies and employees are rude on the phone.

Had a pluming back up in the house held for over 30mins to get a representative around 10pm. I considered this an emergency since none of my toilets were usable. They said someone would contact us in the morning meanwhile I had to vacate since I have two small children that have to go to the bathroom often. The next day we wait for the email of a technician. Once received we called and it went straight to voicemail which stated, “I don’t pick up calls or voicemail please text.” I thus texted to receive a message stating, “ I’m busy find someone else.” So I called Select back to get someone else. By this time it’s 4pm and I’m still at a neighbors house with my kids. The next technician didn’t pick up the phone either and the email said a 12 hr window! I call select back again to see if I could hire someone and they reimburse they said yes just call with diagnostic before plumber starts. So the plumber arrives and says it’s a “blockage”. (Which is covered in the policy.) A representative from Select talks with tech for 15mins then the phone is returned to me and the representative states, “ I’m going to give you the authorization code for the work. ” so the plumber starts the job. The representative comes back on the line and states oh I’m sorry it’s not approved because he has to move the toilet. So I ask where is that in the contract she couldn’t find but states the snaking of the drain is still covered. I ask for a manager which apparently they all go home at 5pm so a supervisor speaks with me and tells me nothing is covered. I ask why and he can’t show me in contact states only basic snake is covered and that the previous rep didn’t know what she was talking about. Still no one can show me where it’s not covered. My blockage wasn’t due to roots, or an object being lodge. After going back and forth with no one able to show me what section in the contract says only basic blockages are covered I wait to get a call from a manager the next day. The manager tells me they only cover $150 for blockages and they don’t have to list in contract their price caps just like medical insurance. (4th time being told something different:
- [ ] It’s covered
- [ ] Only snake is covered
- [ ] None of it is covered
- [ ] Only $150 is covered)
I asked then why was I told it was approved at first to this let the plumber starts. Then he says, “nothing else can be done. IT’S DONE. So look to the future.” So I paid out of pocket and cancelled my policy. This was my first time even calling them for an issue. Now I’m back with First American.

Select home warranty is fake. They give different reason for not covering the repair. I wanted to repair my refrigerator, but they don”t have technician and wanted me to find on my own and repair it. I waited for 10 days with no luck. They don”t even have any supervisors. It is really frustrating. I wanted them to cancel my warranty without the cancellation charge since they are unable to find any technician and send back my check . Don”t get fooled.

Contact the Attorney General to see if there is a fraud department, Consumer Affairs too.

I entered a claim for a leak of water from my refrigerator ([protected]) giving details of Manufacturer and Model Number and when they responded (48 Hours Later) they did not address my claim - they refered to a HVAC problem.Telling me thal HVAC leaks were not covered.How frustrating - they couldnt get the claim identified correctly !

I was giving a service repair tracking number via email. Never received a phone call from vendor for conformation. Email that I received cannot be open. Home Warranty has no information or phone contact. Why are they unable to contact their so called assigned vendors. I will look for another company that will have a clue. Your company is SNAFU.

My refrigerator went out and I filed a claim and it took a month for them to come out and then they said only main board is covered. Before that I had aske for my money back because there was no service people in my area and they told me I was on my own to find one, that is what I hired them to do. they are a scam do no use them

i called to make a claim on 7th of dec they sent RC plumbing on the 8th they have yet to approve the work i also have asked for them to either email or send my policy to me they have not my claim #[protected]

i filed a select home warranty about my plumbing problem i sent the info they needed and they said they could not read the signature but i sent them everything i had

In October of LAST year, I received a court order (select has it) telling select home warranty to pay me $815.00. To date I have not received any money from them despite my many calls and mailings. I can't even get ahold of anyone from administration because no one will provide me with the name of anyone I can contact.

Completed request for a plumber to come out to check our main bathroom toilet continuously running, no signs of a leak around the toilet. Request was sent in 7 September 2023 which usually takes 48 hours. Received another email that they are still working on it, with a promise to have a Technician lined up shortly.

There is internal condensation that creates holes inside the ductwork but they dont cover the rust. However, the agreement I have makes no such claims.

The only thing they have good is they pick up calls but never resolve issues , never get back , you hand to call to follow up. Total waste of money. Don’t recommend it at all

I have filled a claim with select home warranty company going on three weeks now. They still have not fixed my garage door. All they are saying is give them 1 to 3 business days. I pay them monthly. They want me to find a technician when it is their job to. I cannot afford the reimbursement check.
