Alarm system
I bought a house and was told by the previous owners that I can take over their alarm service or pay a fee of $1, 000. At the closing I signed a one page document saying I would take over their contract. I called Slomin's over the next 20 days inquiring about that transfer. They insisted that the previous owners canceled and I had to sign up for a new service. They sent a rep out and sold me on a new contract. After a nights rest it didn't sit right with me so I went down to their office and canceled the new contract. Later that day Slomin's reached out to me and said I was already in contract with them! They said they received the paperwork from the closing an hour after I delivered my canceled contract. Mind you, this was 20 days after my closing. 3 times on the phone Slomin's told me there was no contract to take over. The rep that came to the house insisted that old contract was canceled and I had to sign a new one. Hindsight they were lying to lock me in for a new 5 years. They said that paper I signed at closing was me agreeing to take over the previous seller's contract despite never providing me the actual contract! I was lied to over and over again to get me to sign a new contract. I want nothing to do with this company but my only options now are to finish the 37 months for the previous sellers or pay $1900! Hours on the phone with them and all they had to say was "blame your attorney not us, be careful what you sign." This company is 100% fraudulent and misrepresents itself to lock unsuspecting customers into 5 year contracts. They didn't want to budge at all. I spoke with them for over an hour. I'm stuck in this horrible contract for 37 months but I'll make sure to spread this information for the next 37 months so no one else falls victim to these practices.
Desired outcome: Was hoping not to pay the previous sellers cancelation fee
Oil burner service
Appointment scheduled in advance with service hours between 8 am to ? whatever time they decide to show even after normal business hours. Called two times 1st at 5pm with last call at 7:30 p.m. and was told the tech was still going to show up at my house with time unknown and emergency visits come first before scheduled services and there was a lot of emergencies that day. I had to cancel with the next available appointment in January. If the tech knows that there's an emergency then a courtesy call should be given to inform the client that they're running late and not just kept waiting for the entire day. That is poor business it makes no sense an appointment should be between normal business hours 8 or 9 to 5 with a window of time given with the choice of morning or afternoon so you don't lose a whole day's pay and emergencies should be after business hours. Appointments should be kept if you want to keep your customers. The same thing happened last year this is not the first time this was done and unacceptable. This will be the last year that I sign a contract with Slomin's again.
Peerless oil burner. Carlin burner
Installed 10/2020 by slomins. Have called for service 3 times (dec 2020, jan 2021, february 2021). The last two times the carlin burner stops working. Led screen states "no flame". No flame means no heat in february. Called for service and i'm told it will possible take over 9 hours. Besides having slomins install the oil burner, I have a oil burner service contract, house alarm and a/c service contract with the company. At this point I do not trust the oil burner. I consider it unreliable. I'm concerned I will come home to a cold house with frozen pipes. Slomins lack of service and customer support is causing my family a lot stress, anger and grief
Desired outcome: Compensation, and a product that is reliable. Becket burner. Fix the problem
Security system appointment
On 2 occasions I waited 5 hours each time for service to come and repair system within a 5 hour time frame. Both time service did not come within time frame! Had to cancel the first now the second appt. the service repair will be coming late after the 5 hour window ! Totally unacceptable considering slomins does not let the customer know of the appt is running late . I have lost 10 hours so far and I'm disgusted by slomins lack of notification. I have been with them for 15 years and obviously they do t appreciate long time customers, will certainly look to other companies that care about customer service
Home security company
Unfair service charge:
Slomens charges a $39.00 service fee for an undate on their radio system. Something that is not the cutomers fault.. Their system needs updating but they are making the customer pay for it. Beware of these hidden costs. Also if you choose to terminate their serrvices there is a $400. Oo fee to cancel. What a rip off to the customer!
This complaint is also been posted on the better business websight and any other publication to make people aware of their practices.
Alarm service
If you're thinking about getting an alarm system with a monitoring company do not I repeat do not select Slomin's Shield! they're very difficult to get along with and cares nothing about their customers. When you try to reach someone to solve a problem in the business office they give you the runaround will not let you speak to their supervisor. They promised to return your call and never do. It was the worst experience ever in selecting an alarm company. please be advised! stay away from Slomin's Shield.
Unsolicited visit from a representative
If I give my name to you and say I am possibly interested and then cancel an appt and don't return your calls leave me alone! Very startled to see karen a slomin rep I met once at a fair over three months ago show up on my porch unannounced today stating she wanted to "catch up".
Inappropriate and creepy. I may be contacting the police.
Security system
I purchased slomin's security system which was hard-wired and interfered with my internet. Approximately every 2 weeks my internet my internet would shut down for unknown reasons. I initially called comcast customer service and they gave me a new router but stated that the problem appeared to be slomins wiring interference with the internet. I then contact slomins and they acknowledged the problem but said that they could fix the problem by upgrading. Slomins later determined that they were not sure if the upgrade would solve the problem and would not promise me that they could solve the interference. I then cancelled my service with slomins but received several bills which took longer than a month for slomins to zero out my account. I am not having problems with their equipment even though its not monitored the systems will not power down and the alarm sounds at the same time every day. I contact customer service/technical support and they stated that they cannot assist me now because I cancelled my service.
Slomin shield
Don't do business with slomin's shield they are by far the worse alarm system company I have ever had to deal with. It's not worth the money or the aggravation. Do business else where trust me, you'll see what kind of customer service you'll get from them. They're rude, obnoxious and completely unprofessional. Save your money go some where else. I'm currently looking for another alarm system company that has better customer service. Slomin's doesn't hire highly qualified people to help with serious problems that may arise with your home alarm system. Red flag

I've been with slomin shields sondra 2011 and judy found out that my alarm hasn't been monitoring. I asked for a reimbursement for the past few months of which was denied. The supervisor that I spoke to was extremely rude, no apology nothing. They instead wanted me to do a upgrade. I called to speak with jason the so called president and of course he's not available to deal with me the little chicken that's putting food on his table and his employees table. Overall very bad company bad customer service. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.
don't buy slomin's home security
The worst home security and the worst customer service ever. Our alarm went off around 3:30 am this morning, they did not call or and when we called to ask them, customer services representative (jenna) was absolutely unprofessional.
They didn't care about our safety or anything all they cared about was they did not get the code on their side so it's not their issue and they could have really watched their tone on the phone when a customer calls at this hour and they are bit scared as their alarm went off.
After using a bad language, she hung up the phone and when I called the next guy he was the same a little better than jenna, but not the correct kind of customer service.
Save your money and don't put your security in these uncourteous and unprofessional people's hand.
company is out of their minds
I have been a customer for many years, after 7 years they told me I was entitled to a free upgrade, big mistake they installed it and I got a bill for 16 hundred dollars, I continually communicated with them but could not convince them it was a free upgrade. This went on for many months, they turned off my alarm from their point of service, but denied doing it. I also bought cameras from them with and ivr (recording device) which does not work. Three times when I needed it (twice when my car was broken into and once when a package was stolen off my stoop. I called them and was placed on hold 3 times then disconnected. To them this is a big joke. I am a heart patient and senior and do not need this stress. They also said they did not receive my check #216 and how they didn't get it is a mystery. I had to put a stop on the check, this company is horrible and has no respect for callers. I refuse to pay them my security fee until all of the problems are resolved, I want to get out of this contract so bad it is making me physically and mentally ill. they charge for one sum each month
I started to use the services of the company www.slomins.com couple of months ago. One day I noticed that they automatically took $33.99 from my account. I contacted the customer services and asked why they took this sum. The rep told me that it was one and yearly fee, but after a month they again took money from me. I need help, because I couldn’t stop them and no one has listened to me.
alarm system monitoring
We contracted with slomins three years ago for monitoring (no equipment installed) our alarm they installed nothing - hooked up phone to central station was all. We decided to sell our home and alerted slomins to cancel their monitoring - as we moved out of state & could not use their service thats the beginning of this experience with this atrocious company and its misleading business practices. We were advised nothing about the "early termination fee" of over $800 we complained & were told the only method to remove the fee entirely was to have the new owners take over the remainder of 1 1/2 yrs of left on our agreement we got the correct form (slomins) and the new owners signed, requested slomins transfer.. Problem is slomins never follows up. Seems it was easier just to bill us we contacted slomins again - gave them the new owners phone #'s but they never even called.. The new owners callled slomins 3x and were told each time slomins would get back to them but never did! We finally complained to the west county consm complaint - and my attorney my strongest advice is avoid business with this company
collections on canceled account
I canceled my gas burner account because i'm moving. They sent me an email saying it's canceled. Almost a month later, I received a threatening letter from them, telling me I still owe for the gas service account and my account is going to your collections attorney. Why would I do business with slomin's again after this kind of treatment? Keep walking, don't deal with this shady company.
swindled
Swindled — i've used the alarm system without issues for four years. They contacted me to offer a one time deal and that as a loyal valued customer I was being offered the lowest price per gallon and was told I won't get anything cheaper than that! It was 3.19 a gallon guess what I could now get it at 2.29 with most oil companies. I called to cancel and/or to ask for a cheaper rate. The woman who answered was gruff and said I would be charged 400.00. She then proceeded to tell me "how else do you expect us to make money." she also said it was my fault for signing the contract. Needless to say, this "loyal valued customer" is cancelling all services when the contract is up and will tell all my neighbors and friends to do the same. Shame on slomin!
disrespectfulness
Slomin shield representatives use scare tactics to sell their product. We recently have a woman murdered in our neighborhood and representatives from this company went door to door referencing this tragedy. The poor woman was not even buried yet but the representatives thought it was a good opportunity. I'm sure some of the neighbors knew her and were offended by this as was i.
Home security had nothing to do with this murder & to use this as an example was very disrespectful.

high rates
We went with slomins when we first moved in to our home in suffolk. We then needed to replace our oil burner so we got it from them. What they don't tell you is that the agreement when you purchase a burner is also that you are tied in to getting your oil from them. They have been overcharging me for 2 years approximately.50 -.30 per gallon. When I called to see if there was anything they could do to rectify this and keep my business they were very unhelpful and unaccomodating and even resorted to a threat of "well if you close out your account you need to pay the remain balance on your burner within 30days." i'll never go with them again.

contract termination
I just read the other complaints. I too had the same experience today. I unfortunately did not realize I signed a five year contract with slomins that is unbreakable under any circumstances! The salesperson never pointed this out to me. Maybe that makes me an idiot or at least naive. But, one thing I did not count on was that even if I sell my house and move, I am still obligated for their service for the remainder of the term. I called today about this having no idea what to expect and was told I must continue to pay for the service or pay a penalty in excess of $1300! This is insane. I thought the cell phone companies were bad with their two year contract. Even worse than this, I was talked down to and treated like a stupid child for not realizing I had this five year commitment. I was basically told this was my fault for not reading every line of the contract. I was told that I should see if the new residents would want to take over the service. I said I cannot force them to do that. And, honestly, at this point I could not in all fairness recommend the company to anyone. They basically want me to be their unpaid sales person and sell their service. I was then told I could transfer the service for a penalty of $345 and then sign a new five year contract at the new house. If I do that, I really am a stupid child. Why would I ever want to do business with them again? The absolute worst part of this is that they treated me so badly. I am their customer. I pay them. If I treated the customers at my place of business like that, I would be fired that very day! I don't know exactly what to do at this point. My company offers a free legal referral service and I will most likely contact an attorney for a free consultation to see if they can really do this. Otherwise, I guess I have to pay it off. I will renew the service at the new house under any circumstances after this poor treatment I received. And, I will tell everyone I know not to use their service.

customer service
I have been a customer of slomin's shield for nearly ten years. I have never been impressed with slomin's customer service except when it's time to renew your contract. Which is why I have never recommending them to anyone I know even when they ask. But I recently decided to recommend them to my uncle.
The rep came out and pretty much wasted our time. He was rude and unprofessional to say the least. He inferred we were wasting his time and, when we asked him to provide my uncle with just one extra key fob to close the deal, you thought we were asking him to donate a kidney. Fast forward a week. I called adt. Within five minutes, not only did adt provide my uncle with the extra key fob but knocked off the activation fee as well to gain a new customer. And it's only a three year contract. It is a wireless system unlike slomin's that still wants to hard wire their system and lock you in for a five year contract.
So buyers beware! Make sure you know you are getting into a five year contract! As stated, their services is mediocre at best.
I am currently in a contract with them. Rest assure, I will not be renewal with them this time around regardless of the incentives. Stay away from slomins. You won't regret it.
