They literally stole money from me
Ok so I don't use my square account except when ABSOLUTELY necessary, ie in an emergency. So I was stuck hours from home without my wallet or any other ways I could come up with to get home, a client said hey do you have square? Yes! I do. Well just run the payment on there and they can instant deposit it. Great idea! Was not what I should have said. So he sends me $230. Go to instant transfer. Nope. Hoops. Verify everything, again, customer service 5 times. The last time I was assured money would be in my account in minutes. I check in 10 minutes. Customer service is now closed. They outright lied there.
Fine you bast#rds I'll wait. It'll be there the next morning. Next morning I get am email for no reason whatsoever - we are closing your account and keeping your money for a minimum of 90 days, for (no reason given) Do not use square they are thieves who operate with impunity because Noone does anything. Well I'm right here. I'm not backing down either. They also blocked my ability to Chat about the issue or leave messages. They kicked me when I was down lied to me and stole me money.
Desired outcome: I want my money back plus for the horrible inconvenience. I had to sleep in my car.i also want an apology.

The process in which my acct has been handled.
I am contractor. Ive been using square for about 2 years or more. Today concerns were raised about the legitimacy of my business. Ok no problem. Instead of sending me a notification or email or text message expressing this and asking to provide more documentation than i started they suspend my account and hold money deposited for a job Im about to start. Calling the customer service trying to find out any thing she could not provide any answers and offered no suggestion at all then refused to get the manger to elevate my issue. Now Im having to explain to the customer that I dont know where his money is and cannot begin the work. This was handled completely unprofessional and poorly. The damage to my Co reputation is evident but repairable my lack of trust in square irrevocable.
Desired outcome: The apology yes from service lady who did nothing to eleviate my concerns. My financial losses are accumulating daily from something that should have had less characters to explain. Please fix this.
Trade replacement plan
Upon purchasing a Cook's Companion Thermoelectric Ice Cream Maker from SHOP HQ, we also purchased a Square Trade Replacement Plan which was to cover the product after the original warranty ended. The Ice Cream Maker stopped working almost three years to the day it was purchased. When contacted to let Square Trade know this, they informed us, the item was out of warranty. The Square Trade Plan was brought to their attention so they asked for a copy of the invoice. Shop HQ was asked for a copy, which they said they would send to us. After several weeks, the copy did not arrive. Contacted again, HOP HQ said again they would send the copy. Again it did not arrive. Weeks later, a third attempt was made and yet again, they said they have the invoice; they said they would send the invoice; they did not. When telephoned regarding the invoice the SHOP HQ representatives have verified the invoice is there. WHY are they refusing to send the copy? WHY are they evading the issue?
Desired outcome: The requested invoice would be appreciated so we may resolve this warranty issue with the manufacturer.
Account Deactivated
I opened an account a few days ago. I haven't recieved my card reader yet, so I took a payment over the phone, they asked for additional information so I provided it to them and now they say my account is high risk for some reason and are now holding $1700 dollars for two months and i cant even get ahold of anyone there. just generic automated answers, I don't know what is going on. This is ridiculous.
Desired outcome: I want my account open and be able to use it.

I have the same issue , has your issue been resolved. I now have to take out a loan to start work at a customers location. I think there should be a class action suit against square. They are crooks.
Bank account holding my money
Froze a brand new acct with square after one transaction from a customer of mine for 4000 dollars. Paid a small amount of my labor once completed. Square holds the money and makes me provide a ton of information then once I do so they one my account and hold the 4k gor 90 days. I'm pissed my customer is pissed and thinks I'm scamming them now. This is straight [censored]. Criminal! It's not even their money to hold. They're only doing so to collect interest. Plus charge me 500 percent fee for taking a payment. [censored] [censored] company nothing but scam artists. [censored] you nadel!

holding my money
Your company is holding up over $3000.00 in charges, charges from my customers. I have been with you over 7 years. A person from Las Vegas called me last night and said a charge of 489.00 was done by my company, there was no charge on record, that is a scam that does not require you to hold up my money! I gave you all the info needed to contact him, not my concern!

Payment Account suspended
Square has been holding my balance for weeks...website indicates that there is "unusual activity" and they're holding $13,602.74 "...in my best interest, and that my account is"...in review"
Impossible to speak to a human. I'm driving to San Francisco this week to their corporate offices.
Every day the date of release updates to the current date, but the money is never released. So tomorrow the date of release will show Sept 19, 2022...this has been going on for a long time.

On Sept. 9, 2022 we tried to issue a customer a refund to their account. The refund showed it was not going through, so they called square and they guy said they had a complete outage, so nothing would go through. Come to find out it did issue a refund, thankful it was not 5 refunds.. I have a picture below that shows no refunds went through. I called square on 9/15/22 at 6 pm and was talked to By An Auora who told me I did not call square and that I should have seen the refund that day and she talked over me repeatedly, so I asked if I could talk with someone else. She put me on hold for almost 45 min and a manager comes on the phone by the name of Darron, and he said he could not talk to me because our phone conversation was being recorded and that went against his policy. I told him I wanted to make a complaint against Auroa (not sure how to spell her name) he told me to stop the recording or he had to hang up... So, I told him I would contact you and try to get some help... because this company did nothing but talk to me ugly and argue with me instead of trying to help me understand the problem...
Desired outcome: I want square to call me and explain to me why this refund went through when it shows on myside it did not and their employee told me it would not go through
Business Practices Regarding Holding Transaction Funds
I was forced into this company as a merchant, because the website platform I use Weebly, was bought out by Square. I don't get a lot of transactions, but sometimes they are large ones. This morning, I had a large one and the customer's card declined twice probably because their bank was protecting them. After the customer's bank confirmed my company, the transaction went through. Now Square is holding my transaction funds and I need to use this money for purchasing product for my customer, not when Square deems correct, when I deem necessary. This is BS and criminal behavior to the max. That is why all banks are crooked in this country, as they illegally hold onto to your money for no reason. But, with Square, you can't even talk to a human, you have to use a sickening chat with the standard default response. They should never be a merchant like Paypal (so now they are in the same category as crooked Paypal), normal merchants you can talk to. This is disgusting and I hope someone with some intelligence reads this. This country is in the abyss today.

Cancellation
Square deactivated my account without warning and when I
called to inquire, all I was told by a disgruntled worker was to
reference the email, which told me to call them. I call you as
directed and then you tell me to reference the email. That was
not helpful at all. To offer a service and without giving the
business the chance to rectify any errors, is completely wrong
and bad business. This account literally had not even had a sale
yet and so that's what makes this even more bizarre, why not
send out an email asking me to correct whatever they deemed a
violation of whatever terms or services they have in place. Also,
to be hung up on from a representative is unacceptable. I was
told to start a new account but if I have no idea what prompted
the deactivating, what's to say the new account won't be shut
down as well. I am not happy at all with the outcome because it
makes no sense that we cannot be told "what" initiated a
deactivation but we can take time, energy and effort to set-up yet
another account with the fear of deactivation again. Please make
this makes any type of logical sense to me. This will undoubtably
become a major problem with other business owners but luckily we have other options to process payments. Square has now lost
a lot of business and I will definitely be sharing this story with
others on my platform about my experience so they can not have
to go through this in the future.
Desired outcome: My account needs to be re-activated.
Held my money for no reason
I have been a customer of this company for a couple years. Never had any issues. Never a complaint. Never had a dispute.
Last Friday evening at 5p CDT I ran the second of two payments from one of my clients- the payment was right around $1800. (Please note I said 2nd of 2 as the first went through just fine) I didn't not receive the money into my account so I called. I was told it was a routine thing and my money would be released in 3 hours. I asked if I needed to do anything or call. I was told no it would be automatic. Yep you guessed 3 hours later no $$ AND they quit taking calls at the same time. I go through the entire weekend (lose an entire group because they not only kept that they took the money out of my bank account as well so I am unable to function at all) I get a message asking a ton of questions. I jump through all their hoops & still nothing. I get an email stating it's all been reinstated. Guess what, wrong again! I am not allowed to speak to the people making these decisions, though they want more access to my bank account. And at this moment I still have not been given access to my money!
Desired outcome: I want my money. And I want them to pay me for all the business I lost + the emotional distress!!
ACH Transaction
I signed up for their service 8-1-22 and I linked my bank account as required. I texted the process to make sure it was good to go with so, I used my Capital One credit card to purchase my own service through Square.
I thought they were going to take their service fee of 9.95 for transferring the payment to my bank account. Square debited my bank account 330.94. I tried calling them but to avail I was redirected to their bot chat service. I filled a stop with my bank. They then altered their company name and tried to debit my account 3 times.
The funds they took from my Capital One credit card are still missing. I want all of my money refunded ASAP.
Desired outcome: All of my money refunded and my account information removed from their database.
Like everyone else on this thread, I've had it with Square. I had to change our banking account, adding a new one. BofA told me they verified the new account immediately, while Square did not care - I was told by their banking rep that they hold our funds 4 days (which will be 6 as it included a weekend. We cannot do business like this and as soon as this transfer is made, Square is in our rear-view mirror. Had to wait over an hour for someone to actually answer the call and when he did I told him to have to wait that long when I've got a business to run he responded "well, I'm busy as well. I have to handle all the callers." Gee, what a guy. So professional.
saying I am making "fraudulent charges" and holding my money
I run a newspaper. I have a customer that owns 4 companies and pays for each of those ads for those 4 companies each week on 1 credit card. I run each ad invoice separately on 1 card each week. I have done this for over 4 years. Now all of sudden I am being accused of "fraudulent" activity. They have now frozen my account - which I have money in my account and will not let me have it. We had this issue about a month ago - I told them why I did that and they said "Oh okay" no problem. I thought the issue was done and over with - now today they freeze my account. I feel like I am being harassed to "accept their demands" or they will deactivate my account. I feel like I am being treated unfairly and it's not right. I have tried to call and talk to someone and emailed. still no response.
Desired outcome: GET OFF MY [censored] AND quit accusing me of "fraudulent activity! Release my funds and stop harassing me.
Square stole my money-this is criminal!
I was selling energy drinks at my locations, and without notice square deactivated my account and lost all my money because square is holding my funds. I need this money to operate my business, and now I cannot pay my vendors.
No customer service, you cannot even talk to anyone. I did not even get an email.
This has caused me to lose hundreds of dollars because I cannot operate without paying our venders. We only get 20% of the sales as profit, the other 80% goes to operational expenses.

Illegal freezing of over 10 year old Checking account and withdraw over 11,100.00 from said Square Checking account
My wife and I have had over 11,100.00 stolen from our checking account and now Square Inc has frozen all of out assets with them. We bow can't access any of our money ( leaving us at 0 dollars ) . We work very hard for our money and Square Inc. mentioned that someone somehow took money from our account using a savings account we didn't open? Now Square Inc. Wants us to link another account other than our existing Square Checking account so Square Inc. Can transfer 1100.06 to that account ( we refused ) we no longer trust Square Inc. We have reported this to the Attorney General in Idaho were Square Inc. Has a license to operate. We have yet to get any of this 11,100.00 put back into our original Square Checking account and are still being told that we need to follow Square Inc. Rules or Square Inc. Can't unfreeze our original Square Checking account.
Desired outcome: We want to be made whole and would like a refund of 10 years of all fees charged by Square Inc. Plus damages to our community members and businesses. Totaling 789,000.00

I had set up a square account to recieve a payment from a client and the payment was made and they now have deactivated my account and won't release my payment to me. They took their fee out of the payment and sent an email telling me that I would receive any money left in my account in 90 days which is august 19 2022 but I need my funds asap. I have come out of my own pocket and as of now have spent my time for money to be held up in the square up app. I have no way to contact the client and ask for another payment if I were to refund it and need help getting my funds sooner than august.

Welcome aboard the Square Ransomware club. Small businesses have NO chance with this company. Six complaints to the Better Business Bureau since May 12, 2022 and Square is STILL holding my money. AND - the San Francisco BBB is NOT posting my complaints! Interesting, huh?
Payment not received
On May 10, 2022, I got an email stating that my account with Square was deactivated.
I was also notified that my money will not be transferred to my checking account until August, 2022.
The money is needed for my business and suspending the transfer of said monies will negatively impact my business greatly.
The state of the economy and its impact on businesses, both large and small, is already a huge blow and now this.
I have emailed Square's customer support about this. They indicated the money can be refunded. A refund will result in an additional charge over and above the processing fee of the initial transaction - a charge I cannot afford.
I tried calling Customer Support. I got a recorded voice stating that my money will not be released to my checking account until August, 2022. The recording also stated that I could respond with questions about this to the email included in the email received. There was no email and while I tried to respond to the initial email I received an undelivered email response.
I need those funds to search for another alternative and move forward.
This policy is a ransomware attack on their customer base. You want your money - pay us and we may give it to you.

my account is under review under 5 days already. they said the will be send me a email between two days. day number 6 and no email. call customer services and no one can't help. reading all this comment i am scare about my money now with them. must peoples said they hold your money for 90 days. Square has done the exact same thing to my account - I received an e-mail stating that my account has been deactivated without any indication as to why or with any way to resolve the issue. Seems to have happened just as a large sum of money was supposed to deposit to my account and now not only have the funds been frozen and irreparable damage is already being done to my business and livelihood, but the customer support is maddeningly incapable. They have stated that they cannot view my "application information" and that because my application was never accepted, I never had an account. I had my account verified for months and even had their debit card for faster transactions. I have been told that the support team does not accept phone calls and the only way to contact anyone is through chat or E-mail. I hope that they do not try to tell me that I have to pay an outrageous fee just to get my money. Square should have to be held to the same standards as banks, if not above, although they are not a bank, they are in close-ties with banks and have authority over people's money. This company should not be allowed to operate with such lack of professionalism.
Square Payments
I am a small business owner and I was needing a way for my clients to make payments over the phone and in person with debit and credit cards. So after looking around, I found Square website and they really seemed to have a nice website and it is a service that I have heard of, so I signed up. I sent my first invoice and my client made payment immediately. However, the money is nowhere and the horrible support could not give me any answers on where the money went. If you are looking for decent customer service and a trustworthy business, I would NOT recommend Square. The fact that nobody can answer any questions regarding their business is a major problem. I feel as if I have been taken and seeing how Customer service can not give any answers, I do not feel as if I will ever see a penny. I will also report this to my local Law Enforcement as the amount in question is a felony in the State that I reside and do business from.
Desired outcome: Simple, I want the money that was paid by my client returned to me. It was a simple payment.
Square deactivating my account and not releasing my balance
I opened my account back in February 2022, started using it and received few payments opened a square checking account and never received card till after I deactivated the card almost 3weeks after receiving multiple emails telling me to activate it. They deactivated my account 3/28/2022 with no explanation to why trems #11& 12 which states really because they can. My payment remaining pending for about two weeks prior and now I cannot transfer funds to my bank account. Spoke with few different people who wasn't any help, rude, and very disrespectful. I just want my money, they said 90 days, but why? I didn't break any trees or conditions and wasn't notified about risk of being deactivated and even if I had I couldn't do anything with my money because they had it pending for review processing that said a day or two and the day it was done pending they deactivated my account... I'm mad as hell for all the inconveniences they are causing me, diagnose with cancer almost a week ago so 90 days ain't promised to me (God forbid)
Desired outcome: I would like my money released to my bank account ASAP please I don't have this coming.
