terrible serive
First off, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They not only come in, and do a very quick so they can leave and go onto another house, they charge you extra for recdiculous items. I had to pay extra for them to use a spray bottle on my carpet to clean it. I expected to pay a higher price to use this company, and to get better quality, which didn't happen. When they left, my carpets did not look any better. If anything, they just looked wet and worse. They also had a smell to it which was terrible. I called them up to complain, and they just didn't listen. They wouldn't come back out to even look, and let me show them what happened. Their workers were also so lazy, and didnt' care about anything. Now that I also looked through some rooms they did, they banged up my wall a little bit becuase I know I didn't have those previous marks there but now I did. It just wasn't what I expected. Don't use them, you will regret it! I guess I'm off to trying ABC Chem, Sears Carpet Cleaning, or reliable carpet cleaning (Which just from their name doesn't sound reliable). Well, hope this helps people in question. Don't use Syracuse, New York's Stanley Steemers!

I scheduled them online. They showed up unannounced a day early. We had not finished picking up the whole house. They assured my wife who is disabled that they would pick everything up as they go. They used my hose and left it a mess. The morning after they were here my wife noticed that there was money missing from her purse which they had moved in the bedroom. Without direct evidence I can't absolutely accuse them, but I do have an opinion. When I called about this, I got a pathetic apology and have heard nothing else since then. NEVER AGAIN!
changed price after a quote
I called Stanley Steemer to have my father's carpets cleaned. They quoted me a price of $173.84. I wrote out a check for the exact amount and gave it to my Dad to give them. They talked him into deoderizer and charged him over $316.94 dollars. He wrote out a new check. Interesting how they did not even give him an invoice so I could know how much the check was written for. They took advantage of an elderly man. What ever happened to the oral contract of $173.84 I had with them? I didn't pull that number out of my hat! I was even considering having them do my carpets. Not any more! I spoke to the girl at the office and all she did was blame me for not being there. This should have been a cut and dry sale and I shouldn't have had to be there.
I have mixed feelings about this. I certainly don't condone taking advantage of the elderly, however in situations like these, that always seems to be the go to excuse, even when it's not true. Like with every other sales company, attempting to up sell on site is probably customary, and last time I checked, nobody holds a gun to the customers head when they do it., so if your father is incompetent, then yes you should have been there.

We hired this company to clean our furniture. When they arrived first thing they did was try to upsell, we said no just clean the furniture. Supposedly it would only take an hour to dry, over nine hours later parts of it were still very wet. Now that it is dry there are spots everywhere, the front skirt on the sofa is ripped and the fabric smells horrible. They kept trying to upsell a deodorizer for another $120, I don't think a cleaner was even used. There were parts that looked like they had not even touched, I went over the spots with a can of cleaner and they came out. The upselling was ridiculous, they wanted to clean our carpet and we told them it was just done last month. This company is more about upselling than doing the job they were hired to do, it became very uncomfortable. Our furniture is ruined. We will have to pay another company to fix the mistake. We will never let anyone from Stanley Steemer back in our home.

There is a reason that they try to upsell. The Stanley Steemer franchise that I once worked for only paid 9.00 per hour. That's about 3.00 per hour below poverty level. However, the employees can make their checks commission based if the commission that they earn for the week is greater than what they made hourly. This is not common though, as stanley steemer employees only get 10 percent commission off of anything they sell. there's no chance of any sort of raise. nor do you get a yearly bonus. ever. my Christmas bonus when I worked there was a ham. All they were doing with the upselling was trying to feed their kids and make a living. maybe if the company made the pay worth their time, they would work harder. but most cleaning techs just don't care because they aren't treated well by the company.

I was an employee who was let go at Chrismas for missing 8 days of work in a row with a doctors excuse even though it was never in my handbook and received no return call from managment. As well as when bedbugs were found in our call center they waited a week before treating for them. This is an unethical, immoral, unhealth and unsanitary company in my opinion. They are absolutely heartless as you said. My fiancé works for them. He found out his best friend died in an accident on the job. Stanley steamer basically said suck it up because we are busy or you can get fired. It just shows why corporations like Stanley steamer really care about, and it's not their employees.
dryer vent cleaning
I had Stanley Steemer out to clean my dryer vents in May of 2009 because the dryer would not dry my clothes. Since the dryer was new and covered under the manufactures warranty I had them send a technician out who said that there was nest in my dryer vent and that was the problem. Well I called Stanley Steemer and they came out with this hose and a long vacuum type cleaner that looked like a plumbin snake with a vacuum cleaner. They said that there was no blockages or birds nests in my dryer vent and charged me $150. Well the dryer worked for a while and then it quit working again. So I called another dryer vent cleaning service that only charged $49 and they found a huge nest in my dryer vent. The guy cleaned it all out, cleaned up his mess, and even rehooked my dyer back up for me and made sure that it was working for $100 less. He said that those vacuum type systems that Stanley Steemer uses just push the lint around in the vent and don't solve the problem, they only make it worse. Don't ever use Stanely Steemer to clean your dryer vents, they don't clean up after themselves, they use a vacuum system to clean the ducts out, and they overcharge for a service that they can't even do right. I learned my lesson and will never use them for anything ever again.

I recently had my carpets cleaned by these guys and they did not take much time or effort to clean my carpets. My carpets DID NOT look much better and there were YELLOW streaks all through my carpets. I am extremely disappointed with my Stanley Steemer experience. I made an appointment during the 3 to 7 pm timeslot. I am a mother of a toddler and two dogs, and so my husband took off of work early (despite being super busy and not wanting to get behind on hours) so that one of us could be at the house while the other took our son and the dogs away for a couple of hours. I had expected them to arrive before 5 pm, as by then my son and dogs were getting antsy being away from the house (and no food at our usual eating time) but I continued to drive around because I figured they would arrive any minute and I did not want TO BOTHER the people who were cleaning our carpet.
By 6 pm not only had no one arrived, but no one had even called to let us know they were running late. So I called them myself and learned they “were busy” and would not be arriving until 7 pm. I had hoped they’d be DONE at 7 pm, not ARRIVING at 7 pm since my son’s bedtime is 8. But, that was still in the timeslot I had arranged, and so I continued to drive my dogs and toddler around while managing to get us something to eat (which is hard when you can’t go inside anywhere with two dogs). I wasn’t crazy about keeping my son up an extra hour but we really needed our carpet cleaned and we had already spent time & energy on this being the evening.
So imagine how upset I was when 7:30 came and they STILL had not called or arrived. I called again and was told they would be at our house at 8 pm. However, that meant they wouldn’t be getting done until 10 pm – keeping my toddler up two hours past his normal bedtime. We told them that we were only willing to do it for a major discount. They could take off no more than $20 of my $300 bill. No thanks. They asked if I wanted to reschedule. No thanks to that, either – it is not appealing to me to drive around for almost 5 hours again!
The least they could have done was call to let us know they were running late. We would have known not to give up OUR ENTIRE evening, and wouldn’t be nearly as upset at having to reschedule as we are about having to cancel. I had spent the day cleaning my house and organizing TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR THEM. I have a major headache now and for what? My carpet still needs cleaning! But I will not be using Stanley Steemer for the job ever again. There are a ton of other companies to choose from - don't waste your time with one that is rude and disrespectful.
I would like to post a follow up to this complaint that I wrote three months ago. The quality manager personally called me and apologized and offered to clean my entire house ($600 worth) for free. He was very nice and respectful, so I agreed to the free cleaning. I was not expecting the offer; I am glad that they do care about their customers.

OMG! Stanley Steemer sent a crew out to clean my carpet on 5/24/2010 and the two very young unprofessional men could not park in front of my house. BIG SPOT at that so they kept saying that they needed more space to unload all equipment. I told them I would park it for them because the kid could not back in. Called the boss and Customer Service Dept and all they did was tell them to leave and that they would send someone else that was more experienced. I had spoke to FRED. Ok, two hours later another crew comes after Fred had mentioned to me that the other crew would arrive in 15 minutes...NOT! The other crew was not properly equipped. They asked me if I had some kind of attatchment so that they can hook up to my hose. I SAID NO! So they started to fill up the bucket they brought and kept going back and forth to the truck filling up the tank. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Ok, so they start to clean and WALA! Broke in two pieces my mothers China. They told me about it and I immediately spoke to their boss (TOANOA) Not sure if that it how it is spelled but supposely he is the Branch Manager for the Chicago location. Ok, so he comes out on Wed and looks at the china and the still dirty carpet that Stanley Steemer thought they cleaned. Another appointment to get carpet cleaned and $200.00 for the china cabinet.
Well he said that it would be about a week for the check to arrive. I call 6/4/2010 and he gave me attitude, said he never said a week and said corporate would be taking care of the check. Ok, well I gave him attitude right back and called him unprofessional because all he did was lie just like all the Stanley Steemer crew. They were quick to take my mother's check but not quick when it comes to breaking a sentimental value. I am not getting any answers from any of these people. Today 6/4/2010 I called the 800 number 8 times and got to leave a message for someone in Corporate that is supposed to take care of any complaints (Paul Carson) I hope they get back to me soon with some answers! I am not happy at all because Toanoa is not a nice man. He and all the crew lie and are very unprofessional. This is such discrimination to people who want the carpet cleaned. Stanley Steemer is not good at all! Please do not call them to clean your carpet. They don't do a good job at all! Call Sears! Or do it yourself!

So true i had them come to my house they charge me $120 but put 99.00 on my receipt one red flag after looking over the work i call in on the crew they sent out because the one menber of the crew said they can not clean the back of my stair the room floor still had stain on it my room stinks from them just come out here put water on my carpet and take my money i ask if they can send a new crew that no what they are doing and they said yes 8/10/2015 its 8/11/2015 and no one came so the dispatcher lie just lied, for nothing like u guys are runing a scam i took pic of befor and after they look the same no stanley steemer they should be close down just stealing ppl money i call back and ask for a full refund and no more ppl from stanley steemer to come in my house

Stanley Steemer St Paul 'cleaned' 5 areas in my house. None of the carpets were done satisfactorily. I had pointed out stains beforehand to the crew, but the stains remained. I was able to clean them with an everyday grocery store spot remover (Resolve) afterward, so they should have been able to get them out! They were in and out in less than an hour - I was shocked for such a short time to do 2 bedrooms, two sets of carpeted stairs, and a basement rec room carpeting. I guess now I know why the job was so poor. In addition, my emails complaining went totally unanswered or acknowledged. For $350, what a waste - especially since they only cleaned around furniture, so the actual square footage was pretty small. NEVER AGAIN! I will go back to other companies that have given much better service and results. Should have never switched and given them a try.

We had STANLEY STINKER come and restore our basement after flooding. What a joke...the so called professionals! First of all I got a bill for $5300.00 after I had removed much of the water myself, this bill was for them to come and turn there fans once a day. They also used equipment that was not neccessary, just to added to the charges. Our insurance adjuster was shocked and got them to reduce the bill. When my wife complained to STANLEY STEAMER they said "Well it's and insurance claim, isn't it"? Then when I fired them and a new company came in, we found out that they hand unplugged our freezer, 5 days of rotten meat...nice! They agreed to pay for the meat but will not replace the stinky freezer after may attempts at getting the odor out. We have the insurance check and have told them we will pay them when they pay for the damages... oh yeah, I didn't mention that they also damaged three wall taking the trim off! Yesterday they threaten to put a lien on our house if we didn't pay...is that funny? They have been caught lying so many times and are scams who should be charged with insurance fraud. My wife just wants to settle with them and get them out of our lives...not so easy for me! Sorry this is so long, I have so much more to say!

They are thieves. They quote you online, make you wait for the appointment, show up late, then re-quote you based on how your house looks and how much money do you think you have. This is not the first or second time they have done this.
We have had an issue with misconduct and extremely unprofessional behavior with a technician by the name of Chris. We have been a Stanley Steemer client for over a decade, but no more after this abhorrent experience. I would not recommend Stanley Steemer to anyone of the Mobile, AL area because of the profound unprofesionalism.
ON May 14, I had 2 rooms, Hall& staircase cleaned. Conf #2357699. Paid $ 183.00. Past services have been great, but this time the carpets are as dirty as before service. Lousy job! I needed my carpets cleaned because my super cute puppy is now mad that I have a full time job and expressing his discontent by urinating all over. I called Stanley Steamer to come help because I have out of town family members visiting. I called got the quote and made the appointment.
After they completed the steaming, the rug was not completely dry. They proceeded to place my furniture back to the correct spots. Would have been great if the furniture wasn’t stained wood! My carpets are now the color of my furniture!
I told Stanley what happened and I was told to call their insurance company! They need to do so because I am not the one on the policy and I am not the one responsible. The insurance agency did come out to inspect the damage.
Well the damage is not covered by their insurance because of how new my carpets are! WHAT? Stanley ruined my home and they don’t cover new rugs!? Stanley Steamer won’t even refund the money I paid to have the carpets cleaned!
They expect me to pay for damages they caused and will not even refund a small amount! What a joke of a company. These money grubbers are out there just for money! They have no cares about who or what gets ruined as long as they get money.

I Had an Appointment with StanleySteamer to clean carpets. They said they move furniture no TV no comp. ect. I removed draws and Comp. ect from room. They moved furniture around so they could clean carpet. Moved furniture back, we watched and they moved desk back. They didn't move it evenly. One guy moved and other didn't same speed. On the back left there were wood chips. And keyboard draw was pulled out with screws. He put screws in. Didn't say what he saw under the desk, the pressed board broke. Next day I saw it when pieces of foam taken out under furniture. Called received one excuse after another. No comp. 1 month. Had to do something. Many calls to them. They refuse to deal with it. Guy out of country 3 weeks still no call from them to see it. One excuse after another. Bad Co.

Today Stanley Steemer cleaned my neighbors carpet. The Stanley Steemer crew dumped all of the soapy dirty water in my yard, not in my neighbors yard!
They should have a recovery tank and not dump any water at all in any yard as the run off may pollute the enviroment.
After reading other complaints about Stanley Steemer, I am not at all surprised. Other complaints involved their specials.
If you go to their web site there is not any area for complaints. You are only able to contact the home office by mail.

they dont use soap. its hot water..so basically they put dirt in your yard.
It's actually against EPA guidelines for them to dump the water in the yard at all. They are supposed to run a hose from the back of the van into a sewer cleanout. Call the company and complain, they can recieve a huge fine for this.

The crew showed up for the contracted job, asked to review an email sent to us by the company, in response to our request to show that the staff were bonded. The staff member took the document, went to the vehicle and was on the phone with the supervisor, and after a while they just drove off, without an explanation and without an apology. We prepared the carpeted area designated for cleaning by removing all furniture, plants etc., I had to take half a day off to be present for the appointment. There was no follow up from any supervisor of the company, and to date no explantion was given to what has happened.
This is unprofessional, irresponsible and certainly does not do much for consideringthem to be a relaible company

I hired Stanley Steemer to clean my carpets, and air ducts for my central air conditioning. While here, the crew broke the door leading to my attic and just electrical taped it back together. They also reinstalled eight of the nine air vents upside down so that the air blows up to the ceiling instead of down into the rooms. While cleaning the evaporator coils, they clogged the condensation drain line causing it to overflow and spill into the garage. When I contacted the company to get the damage fixed, I was approached and handled with attitude. The manager of complaints, Manuel Nava was very rude and unwilling to help me. When he finally agreed to come and inspect the damage, he told me that he would call to let me know before he came. Not only did he not bother to call and let me know when he was coming, he showed up early. As a result of him not calling and giving prior notice as to when he would be coming, I did not have time to turn on the air conditioner and give it time to build up condensation and leak. While inspecting he again gave me nothing but attitude. Stanley Steemer and their managers were unproffesional, unknowedgable, unhelpful, rude, inconsiderate and way more. Overall I was very displeased with their services, and I would not recommend going to them.

I do not have an experience with their technicians, but I do have experience working with their corporate employees and they are just the same, rude, and nothing but attitude. There is serious corruption and instead of dealing with personnel issues in a constructive manner there are too many people there worried about covering their collective butts that nothing gets taken care of and good people suffer daily for it. Rather than suffer, they leave, the company may have been around for a long time, but they are not a good company to work for. Treating employees like a pile of crap is their motto it seems. You are supposed to be grateful you have a job as they threaten you with the poor job market. They trap you in salary ranges by writing you up right before your yearly review is completed. They find anything they can to write you up for and when they ask you to explain yourself regarding the fabricated write up and you try to defend yourself, you are told you only getting defensive and told to "shut up". One minute of weakness and they know they can prey on you. They like to promote people that are not experienced nor should they even be aloud to manager other people as they cannot manage themselves. Yet the people with college degrees sit there, wasting away, un-promoted, and wasting their talents away. They would rather make themselves look better and know that they are not worthy of their own position so they are scared to promote someone that deserves it because they are afraid that person may do better then them, so they stifle them and fabricate lies about their work performance. They nit-pick their work tell them they are worthless and "a dime a dozen". Groups of people gang up on your if you show any weakness and then if they are threatened by you they do all they can to make you as uncomfortable as possible so that you will quit and then they can deny your unemployment. This company should be investigated by the labor board because if you aren't a suck up, a corporate butt kisser, or are truthful they do all they can to make you quit, or try to fabricate reasons you should be fired. I've never worked in a department that was so vulgar with their language, jokes, discussions, but quickly turned the offenses they committed around and claimed someone else did it and let that person take the fall for them. They allow someone with only a HS diploma and in their early 20's rule the roost and take whatever they have to say as the golden rule, and the other one in charge cannot use the English language if her life depended on it. "I don't get no..." and "That aint...", both phrases that are not only spoken, but also written in corporate emails. They need to go back to the drawing board with this company.

I hired Stanley Steemer to steam clean my carpets and to clean my air vents for the central air conditioning in my house. On their commercial, they claim that their company is proffesional and knowledable of what they do; they were neither for me. While here, the crew broke the door leading to my attic and electrical taped it back together to fix it. Eight out of the nine vents that they cleaned were reinstalled upside down so that the air from the air conditioner blows up instead of down into the rooms. Since their cleaning, we have a major leaking problem in our garage as a result of them damaging the unit. When I called to complain and have it taken care of, I was treated very rudely by the manager of complaints Manuel Nava. He was both inconsiderate an unwilling to listen or help me with my complaint. When he finally agreed to come and have a look, he for one, said he would call before hand, which he did not. He showed up with no prior notice, saying he forgot to call with an attitude again. Since he did not give me prior notice as to when we would be coming, I did not have enough time to turn on the air conditioning unit to allow for condinsation to build up and show him where the leak was. He was unwilling to come back at another time to assist me and was very unproffesional in denying that there was any water damage at all. This company was very unhelpful, unprofessional, and unknowledgable.

poor quality; excessive charge
Crew of two set a record for finishing the job in the shortest time possible. They removed the dirt and injected a massive amount of soap into the carpet. Carpet began to show dirt again within a month and was filthy within six months. Granted it was a white carpet, but it was in an upstairs bedroom not subject to tracked in dirt from the street. Rented a cleaning machine and spent two hours removing soap from the carpet in a small bedroom.
Their pricing scheme is heads they win, tails the customer loses. You pay by the room, unless the room is greater than a certain size, when they charge you for a second room. Their technicians use strong arm sales techniques to upsell protection and other chemicals to you before they start cleaning.
Goes almost without saying that this is the last time I will use them. Recommend avoid them and their services, as they do not live up to their advertising and actually do more harm than good.

I had an appt. between 11 & 1 and this carpet cleaning company did not show up until after 3 oclock. They then proceeded to add on charges of $25.00 per room and an additional $150.00 charge to clean their equipment. I have never heard of the consumer paying to clean a carpet companies equipment.
Not all of them are like that. I had a great experience. They even went over 2 of the rooms just because I mentioned they weren't wet looking. I use Stanley steemer twice a year and it's very helpful. My carpets have lasted me 23 years. :)
we had a bad experience with stanley steamer also. They came to extract water from a flood. didn't come for 2 days after our appt. Charged me 1800$ for 300 sq. ft. Then came back 3 days later and tried to charge me 1200$ more for equiptment rental. I didn't make the same mistake twice and did not pay that part.
My room still smells of mildew. I got scammed.

We got a quote from Stanley Steemer that I thought was a bit high, but went along with it. They showed up on time and started working, but after they would finish a room they would inform us that it was going to cost extra. Our living room/dining room cost double they said because it has two light fixtures, even though the entire thing put together is smaller than what they claim on their website is the size of an average living room.By the time they were done, our bill was almost $100 more than we were quoted. We paid $276 for the cleaning of a 1200 square foot house! Not only that, but today (the day after) our whole house stinks like an old gymnasium! I will never use them again.

Hello! My name is Raffaele, on March 27th my wife order a service from your franchise office in Merrillville Indiana. First of all we asked for the 99$ offer and when the guys show up they start add money to that because they said the rooms were oversize, second they try to sale to us a protection coat and an enzyme. We were confused and we ask to do just a regular cleaning. At this point it wasn't anymore 99$ but it was 120$.or 160$ They told us by phone that they will move the bed and push some furniture but when they were doing the job they told me to move the bed because they didn't have health insurance! After few days not only all the spot which they removed came back but also the old hidden spots came back! So we call the office in Merrillville and we told them what happened. They told us that they will call back but they didn't. So we call again ( when we had time we have an infant and we work ) and they said I am sorry nothing we can do! So I called yesterday and I asked to talk to a manager and a lady called Jenny told me she didn't receive any complaint but she tried to call us 7 times and we didn't answer and now is too late. So I asked her why did you called us 7 time's and she said just to see if you were happy with our service. I am sure your company is in good faith but now our carpets are ruined. After what append we kindly ask you for a full refund.
