I worked at the North Charleston, South Carolina store for 4 years and they continue to not only rob employees of their dues by not paying them, but they rip customers off by having BS equipment that doesn't work. All day the crew's argue over who is going to have a van that isn't going to break down. Mind you we charge some people over a 1, 000 dollars for jobs. My manager he doesn't want to do anything but make 70, 000 a year eating donuts and complaining. He apparently is a priest but I've never heard of a priest that damns his employees on Easter Sunday when they come to his house for dinner. He continues to ignore what makes companies successful because he could care less. The owner is awful as well because he is never there and just complains about people shaving... really for 10 dollars a hour and no benefits as my compensation and you're complaining? Ever hear of the old saying you get what you pay for. Pay like crap, then you get crap. Don't call them or work for them if you're smart and if you make the mistake of going in there.. GOODLUCK!
carpet cleaning service
Truck #128 WORSE EVER! The truck itself has a problem. We have used Stanley Steamer for years and never had one this loud or shake the neighbors houses so badly they had to leave for an hour. And the staff on this truck has horrendous skills - they gave me grief and I am pretty certain the one said "fu** you" in response to my asking him if he was done if...

Had them out two weeks ago to clean a rental unit and when they left i still had carpet full of dog hair and the carpet smelled bad. I called and complained and asked for a refund or partial refund and they wanted to sell me another cleaning job and said if they did that for every customer they'd be out of buisiness but if you do the job like you are...

Worker Nick arrived. Within minutes started making verbal accusations, stating that I had an "attitude". I am a disabled senior citizen. This person was rude, abusive and hostile. I had to ask him to leave my home. Then he got more verbally abusive, asking me if I lived alone...

horrible
after picking up my carpet in mid-july 2015 (jersey city), no one would get back to me over a two week period to schedule the delivery of it. when i finally got a hold of someone they couldn't find my carpet. they finally found it and i scheduled for them to come. i stayed home from work 3 separate days dug in the time they were supposed to deliver it and they never made it there. when they finally delivered it, it had a HOLE IN IT and shrunk 2 inches.
no offer to fix it, no discount, no apology. i finally called a few times and spoke to the manager of the branch to get him to come and look at it. they picked it up again and i've not heard back from them in a week. i have major doubts that this will be remedied and will NEVER use them again or recommend them. totally unacceptable.
carpets still dirty and wet
I had my carpets cleaned by Stanley Steemer becuase we were putting the house on the market. I have always used steve jordan exceptional carpet cleaning but was trrying to save a buck, BIG MISTAKE. My complaints are many but I will start with the carpets being soaking wet (not damp), for OVER 8 hours, including a sofa we had cleaned that we were unable to...

Paid over $250 an hour to clean fabric furniture. Stanely Steemer does an OK job, but we were charged over $900 with two people in our house for a little more than three hours. Also, they try to up sell beyond what was requested. Lesson learned, your much better off getting a local (non franchise) company that should be less expensive or simply vaccum your...

I had one room with soiled tracks (dirty carpeting where people walk), but had them clean the other carpeted rooms in the house too. As they finished rooms I checked them and there was virtually no difference in the tracks. I told them they were going to have to do better. Both workmen stated, "We cannot get out tracks." I think a business who holds itself...

I had a service window from 11:00 to 2:00. This to me means they will show up and provide the service between 11:00 and 2:00. Twenty minutes before 2:00 I receive a call that goes to my voice mail that they are running late and will be here shortly. So now even if they where to show up it would take them at least half hour to do the cleaning I would hope. We moved all our tables, nick Knacks, beds into the kitchen and bathroom so our living rooms and bedrooms could be cleaned and deodorized. All they had to do is SHOW UP ! 3:07 I called there 1-800 number to cancel the service. My reason, we have been waiting all day for their service, rearranged our whole house and still waiting on them. Not a single discount offer or even a simple appology for our inconvenience. Just an o.k we will go ahead and cancel that. When I voiced my frustration again that this was a major inconvenience, my house is now tore apart and no show to get carpets cleaned. Customer service reps reply. Well I don't know what happened today but we will cancel that for you. Thanks for nothing Stanley Steemer. You are a poor excuse for a business and your customer service is well below average. I read the reviews before going with this company and almost went with sears instead but foolishly decided to give them a chance because not all reviews could be bad. Take this warning prospective customers.
I'm not sure why you would call this company. Both employees who were at my house explained to me they had no way of getting "tracks" (the dirt that collect on parts of the carpet that you actually use) out of the carpet. They offered no excuses, no refund, etc. Pathetic!
shortchanged
On May 22, 2014 Stanley Steemer came to my home to clean and deodorize the wall-to-wall carpet in two bedrooms. One room is 12' x 14' and the other is 18' x 18. They arrived at my home at 1:55 P.M., set up their equipment, cleaned the two rooms, and began to pack up their equipment at 2:16 p.m. This is only 20 minutes to set up, clean, and deodorize two decent sized rooms. When I questioned the technicians about this, their response was that these were very small rooms and just didn't take long to do. I am attaching a copy of the receipt showing the time of arrival and the packup time. I feel it's not possible to do a proper and thorough job in this short amount of time and that I was grossly overcharged for the service provided. Obviously, I will not use this company again.
poor cleaning/ price gouging
Recently had 4 carpets cleaned, 2 were area rugs. One area rug was not cleaned at all. They only sprayed deodorizer on the carpet and told me that it was cleaned. I questioned the idiot as to why it wasn't "wet" and still smelled like a dusty rug. He said it was normal. The next day I brought the rug to the room where it was to be laid . It was upside down at first and when I turned it over on the light carpet it was laying on I was shocked as to the amount of dirt and particles that fell out . They are crooked rip off artists that over charge when they are finished. There is always an excuse as to why the price has gone up by atleast 200 dollars. I will never be using them again.

stains reappear
I had stanley steemer come out and clean my carpets and couch. The price for the carpets were a special of 99.00 was a deal .well after the scotch guard and couch the price came to 249.00... when the cleaners left the carpet was beautiful and all stains were gone ..The carpet was still wet .. Well as the month went by, guess what ? some stains i had started to reappear...I called stanley steemer back and of coarse you need to call within 10 days...But they did send someone out to spot clean . The 1 guy blamed the original cleaners .Well as the months have gone by mostly ALL the STAINS have reappeared...I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND STANLEY STEEMER TO ANYONE...I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOUR COMPANY...KAREN

That is called wicking, whatever the spill was to begin with got down to the pad/sub floor and just over time could eventually come back. Next time you have it professionally cleaned dry it as quickly as possible to help minimize the chances of it happening again.
bait & switch
Stanley Steamer quoted one price & then when they came to my home told my grandfather that the check that I left (for the amount I was quoted & confirmed that morning before going to work) was not enough & it was going to be almost $200 more. Thank goodness my grandfather called me & didn't give them additional money. I told the men at my house to call the main office & then have the office call me concerning the difference & I could pay for it by credit card. Instead of calling me they just left & my home which is a mess with all my beds covered with stuff from the floors so that we have no place to sleep. I immediately called the manager at the Stanley Steamers in St. Louis & told him that my floors had to be done so that my family could sleep tonight. He said he had to talk to some people & would call me back then he hung up on me before I even had a chance to give him the number to call me on. So I called their corporate headquarters in Ohio who called him. He then called & said that they would not be able to get anyone there tonight. I said that was unacceptable so he sent another crew to just do the bedrooms & the rest would have to be finished tomorrow. When the second crew arrived they told my grandfather that the check was wrong so he called me again. I told them to call the manager, Billy, and to have him call. Again Billy didn't call but instead asked the crew at my home to explain the pricing to me. I tried to conference Billy in and he had left for the day. So I told the crew to get started & that I was leaving work to get home & handle this. Next I called corporate again who then miraculously was able to get in touch with Billy. Once again Billy never called my but the gentleman from corporate did call to let me know that Billy AGAIN removed the crew WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING! The second crew also went out on my front porch & started talking about our valuables. What they didn’t realize was that my neighbor was trimming a tree nearby. I left work early to come home, Billy promised me that at least the bedrooms would be done & DID NOTHING! PEOPLE NEED TO BE INFORMATED ABOUT THIS COMPANY GIVING YOU A QUOTE ON THE PHONE & THEN TRYING TO CHARGE $200 MORE THEN THEY QUOTED! I talked to my neighbor & he said the same thing happened to an elder lady but she paid the extra! BUYER BEWARE! I have NEVER dealt with such rude, dishonest people in my life!

quality of work
I made arrangements to have the Stanley Steemer from Allentown, PA clean the tile and grout in two bathrooms along with the carpeting in a bedroom, living room and dining room. The workers arrived on schedule. The grouting was cleaned first, and the main areas turned out fine. However, the equipment used is too large to fit between the toilet and walls. So these areas were not touch, with no attempt to use smaller equipment or do it by hand. On the carpeting, the "filtration" shadowing at the baseboard on several walls was not being addressed. When I asked the worker, Roy, if he could work on those areas, I was told that the equipment does get close to the wall. I looked at those areas, tile and carpeting and asked them to come back to clean them. After all, their TV commercials talk about how they get the stains out. The local Operations Manager, Steve, came out the day of the scheduled cleaning and looked at the areas of concern. He offered a small discount on a future cleaning, which I accepted. But when the same workers arrived, things went downhill very quickly. They cleaned the tile around the toilet by hand. But when they brought their equipment in to clean the carpeting, the holes was muddy and spread mud on our hardwood floor and soiled the carpet on the stairs and hall wall. When I brought it to their attention, they said that clean the stairway and hall. That was okay until I saw how rough they were being when they were cleaning the edges of the carpeting. They sprayed a spot remover from waist height, with the intention of spot cleaning the edges. How they expected that most to hit the edge, I have no idea. Then they sprayed the edge of the carpeting as they also sprayed the wallpaper and baseboard with the cleaner. And then they scratched the baseboard with the head of the vac wand, as they roughly push and pulled the metal vac head along the baseboard. I also found that they pulled the house around several corners, marking wallpaper and chipping the woodwork as they did so. Their website states that they use corner guards and brush the nap. They did neither. I even called their office while the workers were here, and was brushed off. I did a full refund, but I have to paint the baseboard. And the "filtration" shadowing is still there. They said it won't come out. But I have been able to clean it with "Capture" from Lowes.
I would never use Stanley Steemer again. And especially after the Operations Manager told the BBB that I always had the intention of getting the cleaning done free. An insult on top of the damage done to my home!
Don't use them if you want the job done right.
I had Stanley Steemer come out to steam clean the tiles and put color seal on them. After they were finished, they told me I had to scrub down the residue grout in the shower the next day and wait 30 minutes to rinse it. Boy, was that a job. We have tiles on our shower ceiling and some of the Tile and Grout cleaner went into my eyes. It burned my throat too. I felt sick all day long and I'm not sure what this manager is planning to do about it. Poison control told me to stand in a cool shower and let the water run into my eyes. They still burned. I almost had to meet up with the eye doctor tonight. I'm so tired, though. I don't know why they couldn't finish the job they started. Why do they leave it up to the customer to do the rest of the job? I paid $165 for the job and they made me do the cleanup! Wow, that's quite an outfit there. I think I will cancel any future cleaning of my carpet with them. They cleaned one bathroom and I had the adjacent bedroom door shut. It stunk like heck when I went in there later on. Never again!
I am in Lexington, KY and made arrangements with Stanley Steamer to clean my carpets and floors, My home is on the market and It is imperative that we present a pristine space, of course. As usual, they ran the price up from the agreed upon amount, and then pushed a "new" wood floor sealant, which was supposed to make my wood floor shiny, easy to clean and more beautiful.
I didn't want to do it, but I did, which was my first mistake.
They didn't tell us to stay off the floor for 3 to 4 hours, so we came back home 90 minutes later and walked on it, which lead shoe marks. This was AFTER I fell and landed on my back, lol.
So, furious, I called them and threatened to sue them if they didn't fix their work.
They came back and supposedly took off the initial coat of sealant, and put a new coat on, which we stayed off for 3 hours.
There are still 2 foot prints clearly visible on my living room floor.
Cleaning this floor is a nightmare now.
I have no idea what to do.
They did the rework for free, and believe me, I got what i paid for, horrific work.
I will never use Stanley Steamer again.
If this hurts the sale of my home, I will see them in court.

liars
The carpet cleaners broke our outside faucet and then lied to the manager and said it was already broken! They also did not move and clean under two nightstands and a chest until I asked them (I could tell they hadn't). The manager has offered to have the faucet fixed and is sending me a "gift" card for their services, which I plan to send back as I will NEVER use them again.

I had my carpets cleaned by them and they did not move my funiture. The one thing they did move was my antique quilt rack and they did not place any blocks under it and placed it on the wet carpet to let the wood swell. My appt was 9-1 they show up at 3:30. I scheduled 3 rooms clean, protected and 2 deodorized. Well I was charged for a walkin also along with 4 cleaned, 4 protected, 4 deorderized. My walkin they didn't even move one shoe just cleaned around shoes! Yea crazy but they did it! I had laminate cleaned after being told it would look amazing and shine well you guessed it no different but I was charged 149 dollars. I was told by dispatch because they were late and I had called numerous times I would receive a discount but when I asked the guy he said he didn't know anything about it. So again I was lied to. I would not recommend anyone using Stanley steemer I had a horrible expierance and had to pay a arm and a leg for being lied to. The crew is lazy not upholding their promise they tell you on the Internet! Don't believe there sale pitches. I wanted 3 rooms for 99 I paid for 4 plus others! Stay away from this company sears is much better and you get what you pay for!
carpet cleaner
Once upon a time I was married to a man from who I never received: a compliment, a flower, a card, or a gift. Then, after almost 20 years, one day, he went away. Later, I married a thoughtful and caring person who made me feel kind of special; he bought me some pretty things, one of which was a diamond necklace. Although I didn't go many places to wear such pretty things, I still knew my necklace was there and made me feel that I finally had some" WORTH". Together, we adopted a wonderful dog and took care of him during his final days, when he became old and he passed away. Knowing the importance of cleanliness, the carpets would now need to be cleaned, and so I called a company I had used before, but in a different location. This time, I felt a stinging realization that I was given no choice as to who came into my home that day and closed themself in my bedroom; I didn't even know his name. I'd made sure to put my things out of sight, as I knew a carpet cleaner would not need to clean inside my drawers. Then one day it was too late, when I noticed my beautiful necklace missing... The end.

We just had a bottle of $68 perfume stolen from our house and the only people that have been to our home in the past month is Stanley Steamer. To make matters worse, it was a un-wrapped Christmas gift. They came out to clean 3 bedrooms of carpeting and our upstairs craft room, which is where all of our Christmas gifts are kept until they are wrapped. I spoke to 2 different people at the company. One of them commented that they had never in their life heard do a bottle of perfume over $45. They suggested that the other person who was at our house at the same time must have taken it. That "person" was my brother-in-law and the gift was for his wife. The Stanley Steamer company that came out was located in Cordova, TN.
how they pay employees.
I am a former employee of the Stanley Steemer branch in Indianapolis. This company needs to be investigated as far as how the pay their employees. First, we are not paid by the hour, like most people think. We are payed on a commission basis. I started as an assistant to the crew chiefs. Meaning my percentage of commission Is 10% on each job. But there are...

It must be one of their business practices to DUMP the dirty, filthy water from one of their customer's homes into the neighbor's yard/parking area as a previous complaint described. I live in a condo complex and a renter had stanley steemer out to clean their carpets. At the end of the day, there was a large dark stain with a stench left in front of 2 other residences and NOT the customer's house. After contacting the cleaner, I was told that it is their policy to DUMP the filthy water in the YARD. Are you kidding me!? Every other reputable service maintains the practice of removing the soiled water in their van and disposing of it at their own facility. In this case, he didn't dump in the YARD but in the PARKING AREA of the neighbors. Nice going, jack. Now, we get to smell the stench and admire the beauty of the big brown blob out front. When asked to remove it, their reply is they would have to use my water and faucet. No way, man - use the "customer's", not mine and show me some respect. Upon contacting other cleaning services in the area, I was told that stanley steemer is notorious for very bad business practice and they had received numerous complaints. As a result, that cleaning service had to go out and do the job right. Put them out of business is what I say and do yourself a favor, don't hire them in the first place.

carpet cleaning-tear in sofa
Stanley Steemer steamed carpeting & when moving ripped an 8" tear in side of sofa. Technicians reviewed the problem today & denied creating the tear in the sofa. It wasn't there before they started service yesterday, but was there this morning. The manager was contacted & will not charge for the carpet cleaning service, but that's it! I'd be happy with a future complimentary carpet cleaning, but he refused. What type of customer service is that? They caused destruction of property & will not do anything about it. That's the last time I'll use service provided by Stanley Steemer.

I worked for them for a year, couldn't stand it any longer. What a bunch of white trash!

Stanley Steemer, like most company's must part ways with employees for various reasons for failure to follow company policy and procedure. This review seems to come from a disgruntled employee. Each company policy is clearly laid out in our Employee Handbook, which every employee receives, and we go over what is expected of them and they sign that they received and understand all policy's. Further policy issues are addressed in morning meetings for safety, technical and motivation. Disciplinary action includes verbal and written warnings, suspension and sometimes termination. We have always taken pride in providing outstanding service by having quality people, quality equipment and quality cleaning agents. At the Charleston location, we do pre-employment drug screens and criminal background checks to ensure we get the best applicants to work for Stanley Steemer. And we are constantly upgrading our trucks and equipment to ensure our customers receive the best cleaning experience. Our mechanic has been with the company over 26 years and makes sure our trucks and equipment are in great working order and able to perform to the high standard's our customers have come to expect from Stanley Steemer for almost 70 years.
