Hello. I am writing in regards to my last 3 visits to Steak ‘n Shake in portage Indiana. They have been horrible. All 3 have been with the same server. The place was not busy nor were the orders big. Went with 3 other people each time as I buy lunch for work meetings. This last one was last night and we waited 48 minutes for our drinks. Yes that's us being sat down, asked what we would like to drink, then walking away. I made sure to note the times. Then it took another 23 min for her to come back to the table after the cooks kept yelling "server" we need a server. Not once out of the last 3 visits did we get a check up on. No asking for refills, seeing how the food tasted. I have never had service that went down hill at any restaurant like the last few visits at the portage store. So when we finally have to ask for our check, I ask to speak to the manager. Told her our wait was horrible and how long it took to get our drinks. She looks around and says oh that's not good. Not saying I want her to say something different but there was no respectful I'm sorry or anything along those lines that a manager should fufill. All I can say is I would really appreciate it if something can be worked out. Each meal I spend is between $30-50 for the few of us to eat. Let alone leave a tip that hasn't been deserved in the last 3 visits. Customer service should be taken care of with being a restaurant in a professional matter. We did a group order for lunch and ordered things from the 4 and under menu since there were 4 of us ordering. We ordered 3 spicy chicken meals for the 3.99 and 1 Double cheese burger meal

The store charged me 4.99 for each chicken meal and didnt give us our drinks. Its hard to escape and get lunch sometimes as well as having limited to to get there and leave as well as eat it. Im unhappy and would like something done to make up for this matter. The person that went to pick it up had to use more of her money when it was planned accordingly and enough money was sent for what the website states. The cashier argued with her and said that it was on the 4.00 menu as well as didnt supply our drinks in the process of needing to be right.
You may want to contact the location directly with your receipt in-hand and ask to speak with a manager. They may not be able to assist you however if you have eaten the food.
Good to know! I actually don't have any Steak 'n Shake restaurants in my area.

My husband and I came to Steak 'n Shake last weekend a little later in the evening (around 1am) and had customers across the room, obviously intoxicated throwing paper planes at us and whooping and hollering. I asked my server to handle it and she said there was nothing she could do. When we got our food, the fries were room temperature. I ordered my double cheese plain and received everything. My husband ordered a double with no mustard or pickles, again, came with everything. We asked to have our food remade and I am 100% sure all they did was make fresh fries and scrape off the condiments as they were still visible on the bun. I asked to speak to a manager after I paid and they said to hold on a moment. I waited 7 minutes before giving up and leaving. I am extremely disappointed as we are very frequent customers and never have had anything close to this happen here.

Love steak and shake but the location I go to- on allen in Woodhaven is so dirty! Garbage and food under the booths (always there still when I go to eat here), menus sticky and greasy, and the bathrooms are horrible! Just take a look- no need to explain. I used to work fast food and I know you can be short staffed a lot but we always still made sure SOMEONE cleaned. Please address this I love steak and shake
piece of spoon in my milkshake
My family and I went to new castle indiana steak n shake drive thru. We ordered two caramel turtle nut milkshakes and a junior strawberry and junior chocolate milkshake just to let you know you might not want to order shakes from there ever lets just say you may choke to death! Soon as I got down the road I thankfully was eating it with a red spoon, next thing you know I found a piece of spoon in my shake which I could have choked to death... But glad I found it instead of my child! Ill never go there again

I was threatened by a male waiter to tip him before I had even ordered. Before I had placed my order, the waiter said " you and your friends better tip me. I get paid $5 an hour, and make money off tips. I have served your friends before and if you don't tip, I will mess with your food".
I understand tipping is gratitude on the customers behalf, but feel that a customer should not be FORCED to tip, and am very disgusted at the service here. Tips should be given based on the satisfaction of the service, he or she should not be forced to tip.
If this is the training of service at Steak N Shake, then this is very poor on the franchises behalf.
I always tip at least $1-$2 every time I go to Steak 'n Shake, but that is because I have created relationships with a few of the common staff. However, this new waiter who forced me to tip is the first time I've seen him.

We go to steak n shakes for...shakes! Nearly every time we go they say their shake machine is down. Evenings. Tonight (we have a family of 6) our shakes were subpar our fries were missing from our meals and at the window we were still short a shake. Our children received bacon burgers instead of cheeseburgers. Annoying! Our order is messed up every time we go through the drive through and the staff acts as though making shakes is a huge inconvenience...at streak n shake? Our food is cold and half of the fries we were given are only half full..absolutely ridiculous on a bill of nearly 40 bucks—my husband won't order from there so he went to hot head. That's why our bill is lower than normal.My fries are not even here and my children's fries are barely here. My frisco melt(usually my favorite) looks like my two year old smashed it together and it's not even toasted.

I ordered food at this location which included 2 meals. I have ordered from this location before and the results are always either extremely slow service or inacurate orders. This is the last time I will order from this location ever. And will recommend know one to this restaurant. I have been trying service at this location more than once over past four years.

Hello, I visited the Steak And Shake at 5488 Cleveland Ave. Columbus, Ohio...on Sunday 11/12/2017 and ordered a #4 double combo. I had a coupon for a free chilli with any purchase of a burger/fry? The cashier did not know how to ring up my order without charging me for the chilli! I asked for the manager, a blond lady with a dirty purple shirt came to the window, and stated in order for me to get the free chilli with a combo meal she would have to charge me for the chilli! I asked her what is the purpose for the free coupon? She was not a nice lady. I think they need more training at that location. If you allow your customer to leave your restraunts disatisfied? Then your employees definitely need more customer service training. And clean clothing.

I ordered 2 shakes at the oakwood, ga steak n shake. I am currently sitting at the drive thru window and have been waiting 20 minutes. The guy in the drive thru window is not changing gloves and a server is having to jump in and help plate food because the expo can't get any plates out. The operation supervisor is standing around and not helping do anything propped up in the food window.

I went to steak and shake on tonight and it was just horrible...I order the bacon cheese burger a western burger and chicken tenders! Spending right at $20 my burgers were cold and my cheese wasn't melted...my tender looked like they had done cut them in half.. then not only that I had to wait at least 7 mins at the window for cold food.. this is jus RIDICULOUS! I need a response.😡

We drove about 2hrs to shop in Erie, PA and decided after a long day of shopping to eat at one of our Erie favorites... Steak and Shake. We arrived at about 10pm on Saturday night and stood at the wait to be seated sign for about 5 minutes while 2 different waitresses walked around us. The restaurant was almost empty. Finally someone came from outback and asked us how many. We told her 5 and she called out to one of the waitresses that walked by us several times and told her 5. The waitress turned around and very rudely said "Really? Again?" She was thoroughly disgusted with the fact that she had to seat us. Needless to say we said "No thanks, we will go elsewhere". This was rude and uncalled for. This waitress should be reprimanded or find another career. Horrible way to treat good-paying polite customers. We did not see a manager to even speak to about this. What a disgrace to a fine eatery!

I pulled up to drive thru order menu. Took them 2 minutes to answer but the girl that took my order was polite. I get to window give her my card she runs it gives me card and recepit back then tells me 5 minutes plz pull forward. I do. Its 10 minutes later. I go in ask for my money back. She calls manager over George a. Aguilar. I ask him for my money back. And hes rude. And argues with me. He tells me 9 minutes is normal and keeps making faces and i tell him i just want my money back. He has a bad attitude giving me grief for asking for my money back. Hes telling me the whole time that they did nothing wrong and i just had to wait. He laughed at me as he walked away. He said he was doing his job. Order was placed ay 8:30 and 10.minutes later still no food. I was told a 5 minute wait and ive never had to wait that long for food. When i walked in amd asked for money back and they called manager. And told him what i said thats when i saw him say something to someone and they grabbed a bag and walked past me.out to my car. And george aguilar said theres your food and your still complaining and i told him you can keep the food id just like my money back now definitely.

Walked in to the restaurant at 11:30 am on 11-11-17. There were two of us and I asked for a table for four because two more were on their way. I was asked to wait for a booth to be wiped down. I looked up a couple of minutes later and waitress was delivering milk shakes and nodded her head to a table with menus. When we sat down; there were people at two other tables. 10 minutes later our other 2 people showed and sat down. At 11:45 am we got up to walk out because the waitress still had not come over to take orders or give us water. She actually asked if we were leaving? I told her yes because she wasn't waiting us. There are now 6 tables of people and she is giving water to one of the other tables. We still had no water and no order taken! I have no documentation and I am not asking for anything. I think corporate needs to be made aware of the poor customer service before you lose more customers.
sandford steak 'n shake
About 10:30 this morning I ate breakfast at the sandford location and my serive was horrible. My server took 10 plus minutes to even greet us and the restaurant was empty. She took our order while talking on her cell phone and continued to text throughout our whole meal. I never got a refill, or checked on. The food was good, but I will not be coming back to Steak 'n Shake due to the horrible serive and disrespect from the staff.
2 frisco melts, 1 double bacon cheeseburger, 1 double cheeseburger
All patties were badly burnt as well as bread for the frisco melts. I understand that mistakes are made but the lack of customer service is made evident. I'm sorry that i ordered a large order late at night but if the workers do t want to be there then they should find another job. As stated before every patty was burnt to a crisp and has to be completely torn apart to even be somewhat edible. Very disappointed in the lack of care.
It may have just been an isolated mistake. Did you take the food along with your receipt back to the location for a replacement or refund?

Yesterday 11/9/2017 my coworker and i went to steak and shake on our lunch break. Placed our order and stood off to the side to wait. While waiting we overheard the workers stating that most of the servers had called off and there was just 1 server and she was working the register her name was Ms. Brenda W. They put up a sign stating that it was carry out only due to being short staff and started turning paying customers away. While still waiting 1 of the cooks just took off and went outside to smoke a black and mild by the dumpsters with his girlfriend or friend thats was sitting at the counter waiting on him when we first walked in. He left the food just sitting out on the prep table uncovered and just left. After a few more minutes we asked if someone could come over and talk to us and 1 of your employees stated from across the kitchen "what do you want"! We requested a refund due to waiting a little over 20 minutes and we had to get back to work. That is when we were told that our food had been ready for a while but they were just waiting for someone to put our Cajun fries in the bag! After the young lady give us our refund she just threw the refund receipts over her shoulder and onto the floor. But needless to say we were late back to work and still hungry. The store number is #677 in the (steelyard) cleveland oh. Per my receipts we placed our orders at 12:39 and we received our refund at 1:02.

No she didn't call our names. We have a seat at table first thing the waitress said is we are out of Shakes .This business opened Monday Oct 6 an your Supervisor tells us we are out of mix for Shakes. 4 Days after opening. Arrived at Cleveland, Ohio facility on Lorain Road (corner of Rocky River Drive). Sign said wait to be seated. We waited 15 minutes while MULTIPLE employees looked at us and looked away. Never acknowledging our presence. Eventually, I went and got one of the employees and asked them if we can be seated. Was told "yes, let me wipe off a table first" she wiped it off and never came back to seat us. 5 minutes later another girl asked if we had been helped and I said "she wiped our table off and then never came back to seat us at it." This second girl never offered apology or anything, just sat us at table. SHe threw the menus and silverware with placemats on a WET table! I had to show her where the table was located . We sat at the table 20 minutes with nobody acknowledging us or serving water or anything. FINALLY, a waitress comes over (after the people at the next table complained it was taking so long and we all had to listen to her complain about how many table she had, etc, ) After she took their order she came to our table and asked if we had been helped, we said "no" and she said "okay, well let me see if this is going to be my table first." It was another girls who decided to spend another 10 minutes socializing with an elderly lady while we waited. Suddenly, yet ANOTHER girl shows up and takes our order. We got the food, one person got wrong burger, I personally got a chicken sandwich that the bottom bread was so soggy and wet that I had to take the tomato and the chicken off the bread to eat it! Then we ordered a shake to go and the girl took the order and never brought the shake! I had to ask 2 other people to " please check on my shake." THEN we get to the register to pay and NOBODY acknowledged that we were there, NOBODY was running the register. We stood there ANOTHER 10 minutes and finally I had to Yell into the grill area where there were AT LEAST 7 people and tell them we had been standing there over 10 minutes and would like to pay. The atmosphere was extremely chaotic and unorganized, the staff was just running in circles getting nothing done. REDICULOUS and TIME CONSUMING visit, let alone we couldn't even eat half the food. Not a pleasant experience, maybe consider re-evaluating management at that facility.
