Steam Mobile It's functional, but only just

The Steam app is basically a requirement for anyone wanting to secure their account. For that reason, the broken system is particularly atrocious. Let me explain.

Most of the interface is terribly designed for mobile (especially store pages) but it's bearable. If it wasn't neglected, perhaps it could be of good quality. Currently, it's not great. Here on the iPhone X, the app doesn't actually fill the screen. Might have something to do with the lack of updates for two years...

The chat scene, however, is very bad. Messages will fail to send, send duplicates, or just disconnect for no reason. Weirdly enough, I could still receive messages while "Chat is Offline." Other than that it works.

I think the most popular reason for downloading this app is the mobile authenticator. It works well enough. A code appears and changes, so you need your phone to log in. However, the phone does not actually need to be logged in. If you've logged into the app before, but log out, it will still show your auth code on the screen below the login. Kinda insecure.

The Steam Mobile app is basically a requirement for the Steam gamer, but the bad UI and terrible chat makes it a horrid interface to use for extended periods of time. If Valve decides to support the app again (considering it's their security platform, they should) these bugs may disappear. Right now though, you're just stuck with it.

Steam Mobile If you want this for chatting, don't bother

ETA: And now it's started forcing me to log in frequently when I switch back to the steam app after using another app for a few minutes. Used to be, I would log in, and it would just...keep me logged in. Which is the way it should be. Now, I've just had to re-log-in for the third time this evening.

At least it's stopped doing the thing where it randomly rejects my (very carefully and correctly entered) password several times in a row for absolutely no reason. But "it actually functions properly when it forces me to repeatedly log in and refuses to save said login" isn't exactly a selling point.

I use this app as a way to chat with my boyfriend when we're not at our computers. Or rather, I try to. That's the intent. But I have to manually check for new messages because the app only remembers to notify me about half the time, and it has a nasty habit of eating messages. Like, I type something and hit send, and it just...never shows up in the chat window. (It used to show up but then disappear *afterI'd tabbed into another app, so...progress? At least now I know when my messages aren't going through.)

And this happens when I'm on full wifi. I literally use this sitting in the same room as the wifi router. It's not a problem with trying to use cell data. The app is just unreliable for chatting purposes.

Come on, valve. I know you're capable of better than this. Make it happen.

Steam Mobile Promising, work still needed

I love Vale and I love the Steam client. This app has potential for greatness and I have faith that Valve will continue to develop this app and update it often. As most people have pointed out, some things like Green Light and community are missing. While nice to have, I don't see that it's necessary to have. I can use these things while on my computer anyway. There are bugs I frequently encounter such as connection errors that cause the app to not open any pages and require me to close the app out of multi tasking and sometimes even restart my phone. I am annoyed by the fact that there are certain titles are excluded from purchasing using the mobile app. I'm not sure if this is a licensing issue or something. I am also annoyed by the fact that I constantly have to re-verify my age just to view a game page. Why even give us the option to put in our DOB in the settings if it just gets wiped out constantly? Also, why is there no native iPad support? Updates come out too infrequently as well. Not everything needs to be fixed In one massive update once every 6-12 months, little updates every 2-3 months are great too

I do love the fact that I can remotely install my games while my pc is on so they'll be ready to go when I get home and I can chat with my friends in other countries. Please Valve, look into these bugs and inconsistencies and make this app awesome and I will give it the 5 stars it deserves.

Steam Mobile Constant Bugs & Pathetic Interface

I am a regular user of Steam, particularly regarding it’s incredibly structured mod workshop. I like to log on through my phone to check the latest sales and updates for mods in which I am subscribed to on the Workshop. Sadly, the interface on this mobile app is absolutely disgraceful. Especially for such a highly renown and respected company such as Valve, whom allow such a faulty mess of an application to represent their primary market outlet, that being Steam. Far too often, aggregating bugs plague this app. One being the inability to select a drag down menu on various portions of Steam, such as on the Workshop. Moreover a consistent faulty element in which I’ve had to put up with from the first time I used this app is attempting to view screenshots of games which are sold on their marketplace as well as other screenshots showcasing the mods on the Workshop, all which cause a darkened overlay to consume the screen upon viewing these pictures, making their viewing very difficult, if not impossible at times. I’m not sure if Valve is aware of this app (which I’d guess they’re not) but it’s incredibly poor quality and faultiness certainly doesn’t reflect on their otherwise prestigious company very well. This is especially so when considering many people like myself who browse the game marketplace on their phone whom are interested in making a purchase are essentially prohibited from doing so as a result of the app’s poor design and even poorer care offered by its developers...

Steam Mobile My opinions

Okay, after using this app (and managing to get the mobile authenticator to work) I have to say I prefer the desktop/regular site to this. The interface is clunky at best and completely unresponsive at worst (which doesn't bode well AT ALL for a mobile app) and having to singlely confirm each new listing/trade gets extremely annoying when you do it a lot (by the way, I've gotten listings stuck in a strange sort of limbo occasionally where they can't go up on the market because I haven't confirmed it over mobile but at the same time I can't confirm it because THE CONFIRMATION NEVER SHOWED UP! Now, having to cancel and re-list these on top of singlely confirming everything and the clunky semi-unresponsive interface is why this app doesn't get anything above one star; it wouldn't even get that if Apple didn't require at least a star)
Also (and I didn't put this before but it occurs often enough to deserve a mention) it'll occasionally show a popup after confirming the listing that says that there was a problem cancelling said listing... I'm guessing because I JUST CONFIRMED IT TO BE LISTED! Why is there even a check for that? (By the way, it's not actually an error in listing the item like the major error I stated earlier; the item will still list, it just says there's a problem CANCELING it. Yeah, I don't feel safe using this app...)
EDIT: Oh, and I had to turn off badge notifications because apparently that's broken, too. I'm really not seeing how my account is any safer using this slipshod app.

Steam Mobile Pretty good!

I’ve been using Steam for about 7 months now and after a while decided that getting Steam mobile would be a good idea. You know, so I can keep up with sales, review games, chat with friends, etc.. And I haven’t had any problems with it. However, the reason it’s getting 4 stars is because of two reasons. I’ll right them down below.

Desktop app but ported:
Rather than making a new layout Valve decided that they could just port the desktop app to mobile, which should it works fine, right? Well, while it does look fine it’s sort‘ve annoying to navigate due to the fact that it’s just the desktop app but smaller to fit on a phone. Which makes it all in all more ugly, allows for more bugs, and hard to navigate.

The Chat:
Now this reason is much smaller than the one above but I do think it should still be accounted for. The steam chat on this is terrible! It’s pretty ugly, half the time doesn’t work, tells you friends invited you to a game but doesn’t tell you which game, rather than clicking on a link straight through steam you have to copy + paste the link, and emoticons are broken. However, the reason this is only a “small” complaint is because Valve did technically fix these problems...just not in a good way. Rather than updating Steam Mobile chat they released an entire new app on the App Store and Google Play. And that usually wouldn’t be so bad, IF Valve had removed the old chat from Steam Mobile. However, they didn’t.

Conclusion:
Sometimes the app is a little broken, however, it definitely gets a bad rap and deserve it. It’s a great app...just has some problems.

Steam Mobile Great app, but needs an update

I use the Steam app all the time on my iPhone and it really is a handy app. Being able to look at the store and community is really nice, but using it for trade confirmations and the account authenticator is a must.

Unfortunately though, that app feels very dated and a little bit clunky. The app isn’t updated to make use of the iPhone Xs resolution, so there are two black bars that get added to the top and bottom of the app. Also often times when I’m using the app, I’ll get very generic error messages just browsing through the community or store pages, and sometimes I don’t even get an error message at all, and the app just shows a black screen. It can really make the app unusable at times.

When using the trading/market confirmation, please give us a button to “Select all items”. Manually clicking a box for EACH and EVERY item is just way too annoying, especially when you have to sometimes click the box multiple times because the app only lets you check them so quickly.

Also I really hate how my status always shows up as “Online” whenever I start the app to confirm trades or use the authenticator. Sometimes I’ll be “Online” on Steam for HOURS, making my friends think I’m online when I’m actually not. A simple solution to this problem would be to give us an option to appear offline when starting the app, instead of setting our status to “Online” instantly. Or maybe even make use of the widgets feature that was introduced into iOS, being able to see your authenticator code or be able to confirm your trades/marketed items without having to open the app every time would be great!

Steam Mobile Great update but needs easier trading

First of , I would like to say that the new update is amazing now that there will be an upcoming update on the Trading Rules by December 10. However , I would like to point out the fact that trading in the phone is hard . It would be so nice if the next upcoming update where you guys sort of "incorporate" Steam Helper in the Mobile App to make trading easier . It is hard for us to trade a bunch of items in the Mobile App for we need to click the items on which we wish to trade . To make this easier , my idea would be for you guys to create a "select items" where we are able to select various amounts of items on which we wish to trade and just click one button in order to trade all those that were selected . In my opinion , a lot of Steam Community Members would appreciate an update like this now that again , there will be an upcoming Trading Rules Update .
Also , I would like to point out the fact about those members that profit from Steam . Wha if they are not able to access their Computers but can only access their phones ? Wouldn't it take forever to send an offer for an item that cost 50keys ? I can't imagine how long it would take to send 100 . I hope you guys are aware that some members rely on Steam Trading in order for them to pay for their tuition , housing , and their essential needs every day . You guys are their key to survival . Also I have some new ideas on improving Steam Security where Steam can be a scammer free environment .

PLEASE TAKE MY REVIEW AND OTHERS AS WELL INTO CONSIDERATION . THANK YOU ! :D

There shouldn't be any reason that you guys aren't able to make an update as I "suggested" . I mean come on , you guys are VALVE CORPORATION , where you guys make the best of the best . This should be nothing for you guys .

Steam Mobile Outdated, Buggy, and Slow

Apple reviews are trash for formatting. I apologize ahead of time.This app is obviously an afterthought for Valve. For many years now I’ve felt that the entire team at Valve just sits around sucking their thumbs and diddling themselves, letting their apps deteriorate while they accumulate cash from them in the absence of viable competition. As for specifics on this mobile app: ***1.)*** Playing videos from the store is a torturous experience. It’s impossible to view them in landscape and popping out a video box to attempt it prevents you from adjusting the volume and still doesn’t allow the video to be played in landscape. No ability to choose streaming quality either and forget trying to seek through the video since there’s a high likelihood the app will crash or the “page” you’re on will break and need to be reloaded. ***2.)*** The app frequently takes far too long to load pages. To the point where you wait, think it’s done, then try to click an item or scroll and more stuff loads on top of what’s already there and you end up fumbling through the app accidentally clicking on things that weren’t there a split second ago. It doesn’t help that the “Back” feature doesn’t work well because some options when clicked bring up a hovering secondary popped out window, so if you go back instead of tapping the “X” on the window it’ll send you a page in reverse. This shouldn’t be a problem but there’s no way to go forward without searching or tapping the link again, however doing so will reset any search results which are then displayed in a different order regardless of the chosen sort function. ***3.)*** Accessing your account is both limited and cumbersome. ***4.)*** UI options feel like they tried to cram the badly designed mobile site into a dysfunctional and unstable app with free port tools they got from a Google search result.

Steam Mobile Frustratingly Horrible Mobile Web App

It has issues, a lot of them, kind of like their desktop client, but worse. Annoying to navigate with a terrible GUI. I’m convinced they hired some demon out of hell to implement this insultingly clunky interface. Browsing is an unnecessary chore, and it’s slower than just using the identical web app version (really, the only difference is that the AppStore version is required for Steam Guard authentication purposes).

I hope you like tap-scrolling, a lot, because you’ll have to do quite a bit when navigating back and forth between redundant and labyrinthine lists and menus. Further, swiping is reserved for viewing content chopped off the edge of your screen (I recommend browsing in landscape when not accessing the annoyingly nested navigation menus at the top, because there are horizontal menus for particular sections as well).

Speaking of which, horizontal scrolling is bizarre. Homepage lists can actually be swiped left or right, or advanced via a left or right button, yet other pages require you to drag along a small scroll bar beneath content (like videos or screen caps on game pages). Swiping left or right anywhere else will only jar the page (unless something is being cutoff).

Speaking of which, videos often play without audio, if they even play at all. It often loads a blank feed, requiring you to wait to load what turns out to be a black screen, occasionally with sound. And this is if the app doesn’t crash altogether while attempting to load or play video content.

Random button “about” pop-ups and other overlays seem as though they are intended for web use, and and often prevent you from actually accessing the buttons they are redundantly describing. Touch seems to want to behave as though you are using a mouse, or maybe a potato, the difference at this point is minor.

Please, Steam, get your S together and fix both the desktop and mobile apps, because they are both junk.

Steam Mobile In Depth Review - Needs Some Work :)

Steam Mobile is a great app for checking steam via a mobile device every so often - but it definitely needs work. Here is some feedback:

• The whole design of the app (how it works and looks) in its current state is outdated, in my opinion. The whole look of the app doesn’t really fit well with the modern style. The colour scheme right now isn’t too appealing; the gradient on the app doesn’t look too nice - I’d say a flat colour scheme throughout would look way better and more modern, rather than a very tight gradient.
• While the functionality and features work, they definitely need touched up. For example: the store is all over the place. When I scroll to find the “top sellers” on the bottom of the page, it almost always glitches the page view back to the top - so I have to scroll again, wait a couple seconds, then I’ll be where I want. Also - while there is way to add games to my wishlist from the game page, I can’t seem to find my actual wishlist and see what is in it. Overall, there are a lot of weird glitches and delays... mostly usable, not not at all intuitive.
• The UI is very confusing. Having to click the bar at the top left, then click “store”, then click “featured”, is a lot to me. What I’m getting at is that there’s a lot of unnecessary buttons. The UI, like I said, has a sort of older style to it that isn’t quite nice to see or deal with.

• OVERALL: This app is great for checking your friends list and the store every once in a while, but that’s not the only thing it’s meant for. The PC version of Steam has a massive amount of great features - and while I know you can’t add all of them to the mobile version, it’d be nice to have as many features as humanly possible. I know there’s a new PC Steam redesign coming soon, and I heard there’s a new Mobile App coming soon, too. Can’t wait!

Devs and everyone included in creating the Steam Mobile app & more - thank you for your continuous work. Means a lot. Can’t wait for what’s to come!

Steam Mobile A Welcome Addition to the Steam Ecosystem!

TL;DR: The app can be very useful, providing many features like remote downloads or quick sign in, yet lacks a consistent user interface even after the update.

The Steam mobile app brings about a useful level of convenience to anyone who frequently uses steam. Rather than having to visit the clunky mobile website to see if a game is on sale or to manage a community, you can just use the app. The news and notification sections very useful for finding updates on games and recent sales. One feature I have found to be extremely useful (although in more niche situations) is the ability to remotely download a game. Although this of course requires your device to be turned on (which is not an issue for me), it’s very convenient to download a game when your away to have it ready to play by the time you get home.

Despite the many use cases of the app, it does fall short in terms of user interface. I personally have been quite fond of the recent advancements in UI Steam has made with SteamOS 3 on the Steam Deck, and it is nice to see some elements of that here. However, many areas of the interface are clunky and inconsistent . The store front is the exact same as the website. While the cold steel color scheme provides character, it is clearly separated from the rest of the interface’s shades of grey. Navigating through it on a phone screen is not a great experience, with the user being overloaded by details. Moving on from the store, the news tab also lacks polish. It is easy to get lost and the design is a bit poor, not only looking cluttered but also unappealing in some areas. Notifications are presented in a well organized manner, with relevant information being displayed in a pleasing manner. The profile page as well sports a well organized list of options, although many of the buttons do just bring you to the existing steam website in-app. Finally, the overflow menu, while bland, gives a decent list of options that are easy to access. Another feature this app lacks is proper access to conversations, for that requires another download.

Even with some pages being designed poorly, the mobile app for Steam is a welcome addition and I highly recommend any frequent Steam users to download it.

Steam Mobile Mobile Authenticator

Okay so I love this app. It lets you chat to steam friends trade items with people buy games download those games remotely onto your computer so it’s ready to play when you get home all out of your house. And I love this app for it. But then there’s the mobile Authenticator. Now I did get this but eventually removed this because my phone was kind of broken and still kind of is and I couldn’t be bothered to mess with it while trying to fix it when I wanted to log into steam so I quickly went to my phone and turned it off. Okay so I think the steam guard thing is cool just for an extra layer of security. But the thing is if you don’t want it because your like me and you say it wastes time whenever you want to log into your steam account but if you don’t have it then you can’t buy things off the market. Plus when you trade stuff to people the trade will be withheld for 15 entire days if one of the traders hasn’t had the steam guard on for at least 7 days. And I remember trading some unturned skins with my friend but he didn’t have the app because he was too lazy and didn’t want to download it while thinking I’m an idiot trying to say he didn’t have enough space on his phone. Yeah like he didn’t have 12 MB’s on his phone left. So yeah I had to wait 15 whole days and I couldn’t even use the skins I traded during that time. So yeah don’t trade with people who don’t have this Authenticator. And now I know you want to make sure people don’t get scammed steam but 15 days is a lot. That’s half a month. I honestly hate this stupid mobile Authenticator thing I mean I would give 5 stars if you didn’t need it for trading and buying off the market. I mean think about it. Your browsing the market and you see someone selling a csgo skin for a great deal. You click to buy but then it says you need the mobile Authenticator you get the Authenticator then go back to it. You click and it says you have to wait 7 days. You come back in 7 days and click on it because somehow it was still there. You click to add funds to your steam wallet with PayPal for the skin. You go back. You see people bidding on it. Prices going higher. You just added 1000 dollars to your steam wallet because that’s how sad your life is no offense. You click to bid on it. Your sure to win this I mean who could beat 1k right? It then says you have to wait a couple days to buy off the market with money you added through PayPal. 1 hour later your still staring at it watching the vids go up. You check on it a couple days later when you can buy off the market. Your about to place a bid when the skin is gone. Someone bought it finally. Your sad and jump out a 5 story window onto your head.

Steam Mobile The absolute worst interface I've ever used

This app could not be worse, let me break it down for you:
- doesn't remember credentials, so you have to put in your username and password EVERY TIME.
- FREQUENT connectivity issues with steam servers.
- app looks like it was
developed by an eight year old that did a four week app development course.
- CAN NOT watch videos on any product/game page -- one of the most vital features you would want.
- Logs you out if your browsing for more than 20 minutes
- steam support doesn't care if the app is bad, they just say "we will pass it up higher" --idk who they are passing it to, but it ain't app development.
- Can't purchase anything (another vital feature that's missing)
- viewing your steam inventory works 1/10 times, if your lucky.
- having to enter your birthdate EVERY SINGLE TIME you view a product that's age restricted -- another vital feature that a two year old could fix.

There's more, but I don't have the time or energy to outline everything for you, for the love of god, please call or email steam support and get them to fix this disgraceful application, it's a horrible version of an otherwise excellent online service.

Steam Mobile Clunky updates worsen user experience

Just updated for the first time in a long time.

The only good thing to emerge from the update is the ability to use steam guard QR codes.

Beyond that, some “bright” young dev took away the ability to access steam chat directly via the app, and the app instead reroutes you to your internet browser to log in to steam’s website…

Why would I bother using your now worthless app… instead of just booting up safari and going to steam to log in?

Further, the UI is garbage for a mobile app… it’s like they only ever had devs who made website UI try to blunder their way thru making an app UI. No one cares or needs a “news” tab. This isn’t a social media site - no one cares about having a list that shows them EVERY update for EVERY game they own.

In conclusion, it is sad to see the mobile app fall into such a state of disrepair (thru bad updates no less). I used to use the app frequently to text friends while they were in game, and to check out new games. Now I’ll only open it on rare occasion for steamguard.

I hope the devs read this, and maybe make changes. I’ve always been a fan of the steam app up until now. Wish I wouldn’t have updated it.

Steam Mobile NEEDS UPDATE. BAD

Until this has nearly every feature for steam on PC I won't be satisfied. There are many, many things missing, especially since the more recent steam for PC updates, and I think Valve is aware of that. The app has wonderful potential but is really only good for chatting and buying games at the moment.

Some things it needs:

1. Away/Busy/Looking To Play/Looking To Trade option for online users
2. Rearranging Wishlist Priorities
3. Make the chat buttons bigger for easier accessibility
4. Be able to send messages while ap player is offline
5. Be able to see messages sent on PC and notifications of new inventory items, unread chat messages, and comments on profiles
6. Be able to write comments on other people's profiles
7. Be able to change your profile picture
8. Be able to search for players and groups as well as games
9. TRADING
10. Voice Chat and show inventory items
11. Overall UI improvements
12. Keep up to date with steam on PC updates

It seems like a lot, I know, but I want the full experience on mobile.

UPDATE: Goes offline of chat nearly every other minute. It's seriously getting on my nerves and this app almost isn't worth having anymore.

Steam Mobile Technical Issues

I downloaded the app 3 days ago to remove the automatic hold for items listed on the steam market. Download went well, app worked great, once I attempted to setup the mobile Authenticator I pressed the "back" option on the upper tab because the codes weren't loading (don't do this) and once I tried to go back it wouldn't let me because I had already authorized a device. So I de
-authorize all my devices through the steam computer application, sign out of the mobile app and sign back in and sign up for steam guard. I log into the app again and it's working this time, however I realize I'm now blocked for 15 days FOR EVERYTHING ON THE STEAM MARKET! Reading on the steam help page there is no way around this 15 day hold. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!

Please give more specific instructions about de-authorizing devices and the consequences of doing so and remove the "back" (>) tab on the mobile guard section as to not lock yourself out. 15 days because I reauthorized the same device is crazy. Please explain the codes automatically appear on your device and you don't have to de-authorize to get these codes. Please explain how and what the codes are and when you enter them.

Steam Mobile Not Great

It is convenient to have a way of checking the Steam store from your phone and the mobile authentication is a helpful feature, but that is where the positives end.

Despite being an app made for accessing the store on mobile devices, it’s easy to see that they put little to no effort into converting the store for mobile use. Navigation is difficult, often words and buttons are too small to use (you end up clicking things you never meant to click because the screen is too crowded). The app is ALWAYS crashing and lags like nobody’s business. I have used the app for a few years and have yet to see any significant changes to performance or design, so I’m not sure if Valve is even maintaining it. In fact the only reason I’m writing a review at all is because I’m hoping someone will take these low reviews into consideration and make some real changes to the app that improve performance and ease of use. The one thing I can say is when you’re using the app you can tell it’s Steam you’re on; the interface is so similar, but again that’s not exactly a good thing when you optimize something for mobile use. I really hope they focus on a more mobile friendly design in the future.

Steam Mobile Broken App Needs more Attention

There are a whole bunch of problems with this app. The Steam Guard is absolutely horrendous, especially since you cant sign back in with the guard on via email confirmation and it HAS to be by your phone number. This ended up locking us out of our own account and having to contact steam to get it back. Another thing is when we don’t have troublesome Steam Guard on and when i put up a sale on MY OWN ACCOUNT. I can’t confirm my sale to the market because of not having the Guard on. DESPITE BEING LOGGED IN ON MY OWN ACCOUNT THAT IM MAKING A SALE ON! which makes absolutely no sense. theres another problems and thats with the chats on the app. I dont get notifications from the application when someone messages me and thats bothersome when i get onto the PC of steam and someone messaged a good few hours before. Another thing which is a nitpick but for a reason. on our computer whenever we open steam the application logs us out every time we close the app or restart the computer. This..would be fine...if my games wouldn't have been uninstalled when i get logged back into Steam.

I really hope this app gets fixing but i really don't have faith that it will improve anytime soon.

Steam Mobile Worse than just using their desktop site in Safari

The best solution any company can give mobile users is a native app. The second best is a fast, mobile-optimized website.

The worst most users can imagine is just having a desktop site that works ok in a mobile browser.

And then there's Steam, which appears to consist of a hastily-made port of a late 90s web browser that, after 5-10 minutes of loading per page, displays a glitchy version of the Steam desktop website (which never even worked all that well on desktops in the first place) with no effort put in to make it usable on a touchscreen device.

On a previous version of the app, I had the wonderful experience of the app forgetting that I had set it up as a mobile authenticator, locking me out of my account. Judging by the version history, that's been a recurring bug for years that they just can't fix for good (all of Valve's skilled developers must be occupied making SteamOS or Steam Machines or HL3 or… wait, no, all of those were vaporware). Since I can't trust the authenticator, there's really no reason to use this app. Just open Safari where websites load faster and support touch gestures. It's right there at steam.com… wait, no, that's not it… just google steam.

Steam Mobile Needs a lot of fixing

Don’t get me wrong by the review, I love playing on steam. But the fact that trading cannot be done without having this app is infuriating. For those that don’t know, trading, unless you have this app, takes about 2 weeks for items to arrive for both parties. That’s pretty outrageous. But the app itself is incredibly Non-user friendly. Buttons taking multiple clicks just to work, strange layout, that sort of thing. But trading can be one of the worst things to deal with. It would be so much better if it didn’t force you to log into the app to confirm a trade for 1 item. Plus there’s signing people out for no apparent reason, which forces them to reset the steam security, which then forces you back into trading holding, for a much shorter time, but you still have to wait. They decide that just signing in at points restarts the steam security. It’s just a pain to use. Please valve, fix this app. First thing should be to make the app more user friendly. Then focus on more specialized areas, like fixing trading, something like that. Either that or revamp the trading system to make it less of a hassle to deal with. Just a few suggestions but as the title implies, it needs plenty of fixes

Steam Mobile Cross-platform apps are bad

This app was clearly not built with iOS in mind and that makes it incredibly frustrating to use, I only use it because there are no alternatives.

There are 0 (ZERO) standard navigation patterns, and nearly every page seems to exist on its own outside of a navigational hierarchy.

For example, I have absolutely no clue how to navigate to and view the shipping status of my Steam Deck (I have to tap the link from my email, I can’t even choose to open the webpage in safari, which is a base-level expectation/feature on mobile), and the only way to navigate “back” from the Library screen is to.. tap one of the tabs at the bottom and lose your spot in the scroll…?

It’s completely nonsensical and screams lack of QA. All of the menus from the “Menu” screen are either links to another tab (redundant and confusing since the real tabs have no text under them) or they are links to screens that cannot be navigated back from.

I can’t think of a more effective way to disincentivize usage of your app than making the core navigational structure of the entire app unpredictable and frustrating. This thing needs to be built with Swift code, not some cross-platform SDK that saves money at the cost of UX.

Steam Mobile Account changes break the app

I had to change my password while the app had the authenticator active using the app.

First of all, it would not let me do this using the app even though everything on the website redirects you to the app. It asks you to confirm the password change using the app, but since it’s basically loading a webpage within the app itself it never registers that you’re already in the app and you can’t confirm anything.

Second, when you finally change your password using a browser and app combo, if you have the authenticator active on the app, the app completely breaks. You’re still “logged in” using the old password, but since your password has changed nothing works because your credentials are wrong. It also won’t let you log out because the authenticator is active. This problem continues even after you remove the authenticator from your account using a browser.

For as much money as steam has you’d think they could afford to pay someone with competence to not have everything fall apart when you try to simply change your password. It’s like the steam webpage, authenticator, and app are all made by separate conpanies in separate countries and nobody speaks the same language or has any way to communicate with each other. Pathetic.

Steam Mobile Two stars is generous

The basic functions of the app work; most of the time at least. It's incredibly slow and buggy, and seems to just get worse every time I update it. It's dead weight to have on your phone. With all the convenience that a mobile device can theoretically provide, it would be faster and less aggravating to go home, turn on your PC and do it on the actual desktop client. I haven't gotten any crashes, but it seems like other reviewers are reporting them.

This is a hot mess of errors and several minutes of lag, and frankly I don't see any advantage for even having the app in tandem with the client. Steam Guard could maybe make it worth it, but this app is so broken I get errors whenever I try to activate it. You can purchase games here if that appeals to you, but I don't see why you'd want to. Better yet, you don't even get notified about chat messages even though the app can support the chat feature.

For reference I'm using iOS 8.4.1 on an iPhone 5s, but it seems like EVERYONE is struggling to get even the most basic of functions to work properly. I only give it two stars because, if Valve actually gave some QA to the app, it could be pretty handy for when you're away from a computer. In it's current state, even one star is too kind.

Steam Mobile Barely Functional

This app only just barely manages to do even the most basic functions. Some of the UI is extremely unstable and will frequently bug out and make navigating it impossible. The prime example being the steam points shop, where if you scroll too fast, it hard crashes the app. And if you even open some of the pages on that section it will start randomly opening previews of things like profile backgrounds out of nowhere. It’s over sensitive, it considers every touch a full tap, so touching to scroll will open whatever you touch.
It’s possible to drag your finger across some text that’s supposed to be tappable and it will select it and highlight it like any other text. You cannot get this to go away either without moving to different pages.
Overall very displeased, I only download this every now and then to check prices on some games, and every time I’m reminded that really I should just use the mobile website through a web browser instead.
This is a good example of an app that’s drastically inferior to the website, but for some reason some stuff requires the app. The steam guard mobile Authenticator is the only way to manage selling game items without having to wait 15 days while the item is on hold, and that would be fine if the app actually functioned.

Steam Mobile Lost another star

I did review the app a while ago, and gave it a 4 star review cuz or minor bugs. Then they didn't fix the bugs in the update (which also didn't show up on my phone), so I dropped a star for bad service. Now, I have dropped another star for more reasons.

-Random offline bursts (no ability to check anything on good internet)
-Push notifications failing (messages, sales, wishlists, or anything has stopped sending notifications)
-Updates don't show up (or they show up but don't change the app)
-Messages don't always send, duplicate, or appear in other people's chats (possibly server side issue, happens on computer too)
-You can change your icon, but only once from the mobile app before it crashes and doesn't let you anymore
-While in a voice call/video call with somebody on your phone, the bar causes the screen to bug (and the text bar to disappear)
-Lack of group and voice chats unlike computer version

Due to the fact that it's the only place I host games on and play them from, I am left with no choice but to endure the pain it brings. I did warn before that if they did not fix, stars would be dropped. This same warning is being put on, and since 1 star is the lowest, if they do not fix it by then, I will recommend others drop the ratings to legitimate ratings until it is fixed.

Steam Mobile Gimme dat update!

Good:
Interface is easy to use.
Chatting interface is nice, I likes especially that it includes avatars.

Bad:
It will not notify you at all of new messages! (This needs to happen, people don't stare at a phone like a computer monitor.)
Needs Voice and Group chat.
Sometimes (quite often sadly) I cannot access my settings, this causes a number of issues.
The age restriction pop up comes up every time I look at a mature mature rated game, I eventually stopped putting in my actual birth date and when I started just scrolling down to 1960~ this locks me out for some reason. And as I said, sometimes I can't access settings so I cannot put the right birth date in...

Overall I like the app, but it needs serious updates, even if it didn't have the bugs I mentioned it still loads slowly and has connection issues, not to mention it's too simple for a college student like me who is constantly on the move, it needs to let me access more and work when my phone is on the home menu in my pocket...

If they fix it I will raise the rating, personally it deserves a 3 but I chose to rate a 2 to show my dissatisfaction and get them to look at it, I encourage everyone rating a 5 just because it's out to stop and address this problem, don't let valve think that this is good enough, because I know they can make it better!

Steam Mobile E-gift Cards

Writing here because it’s somehow the only way to voice my issues with this platform. I don’t use Steam, but my partner does. I wanted to gift him an e-gift card for his bday, but discovered Steam doesn’t have a “check out as guest” type option. As a result, I created an account. I then found out I couldn’t send the e-gift card until he and I were friends. But I couldn’t add him as a friend until I had spent at least $5 or loaded $5 to my wallet. Since I was going to get him a $100 gift card, I just loaded that to my account/wallet, then added him as a friend. The next stupid rule Steam sprung on me was that I could not gift him anything until we had been friends for at least 3 days, and now I’m seeing I may not even be able to send an e-gift card with the money I loaded into my “Steam wallet”? So that $100 I just loaded to my account might just be a waste? It’s 2022, and Steam needs to get with the times. None of the Reddit threads I’ve seen supporting this archaic approach make sense to me. It’s so common to be able to send an e-gift card for virtual or physical products on sites that you yourself are not a user of, but the receiver is. It’s non-sensical to me that Steam/Valve won’t allow this… It’s like they’re asking to not make money? It makes me glad that I myself don’t use/support this platform myself.

Steam Mobile 15 day trade ban/hold is the most silliest thing ever

I recently changed into my new iPhone and I have also changed my old phone number to a new phone number ever since I moved to another state to live there. Since I can’t confirm any trades on my new iPhone, they instructed me to disable the authenticator on my old iPhone and enable it on my new iPhone, which I did. HOWEVER, 1 big issue I have is that they never “warn you” what happens when you disable or enable a steam guard authenticator. They place a whopping fat 15 DAYS of not being able to trade with anyone and use the community market at all. During that time I had made great offers with a person on Discord and because of this I have to apologize to him due to the 15 days of trade ban. My BIG issue here is 15 days is waaaaay too long to not be able to do anything. If Valve’s excuse is to prevent Hackers that accessed your steam account and start trading your items to theirs or something like that, shouldn’t 1-3 days be more than sufficient for the actual owner of the steam account to respond, remove those trades, change password and security instead of 15 WHOPPING DAYS? As long as they don’t change that 15 days hold/ban I am keeping this app at a 1 Star, I wish I could rate it a lot lower, and I HOPEFULLY WISH they read through the comments, criticism and reviews and improve on one of the major flaws of their trade/ authenticator system.
