March 2024- Rent / Charges raised without notification. Went from $147.99 to $174.99. Had no notification of any increase. Called and they said they would change it back to the $147.99. they said I had an increase in rent, and I was sent an email in February. I asked about a refund for the $27.00 overcharge, and they stated they could not refund what was already paid. I found the email and the contract signed and dated 02/08/24. the contracted amount was $147.99 so it was an overcharge and should be refunded immediately as it was their error. Looked back to my history. This contract should be a yearlong. I am constantly being over charged and overpaying. Not being notified of anything. I have my own liability insurance. I provide the certificate every year. I am never notified that a new one is needed for the files. they just tac on an insurance charge. I provide them with a certificate of continuous insurance, and they never refund me any over charges. Just in the past 9 months, I have been incorrectly charged and the amount auto withdraws from my bank an amount of $83.00. this is just in 9 months. I know this has been an issue since the day I rented this unit 3 years ago.
Claimed loss: $83.00
Desired outcome: refund of incorrect amounts taken out of my account and over charged.

Constantly raise rents without notification- constantly charge for insurance but never send out a notice that a new certification is needed for their files- won't give refunds when they withdraw more than the contracted amount- poor business ethics- poor business practice- needs a class action suit filed on them!
Same problem here. Manhattan location.
They do what they want, their communication is lazy and their policies are burdensome.
The new owner who took over from MMS claims to have notified customers by email to demand an updated confirmation of personal Renters Insurance to avoid a monthly fee for their own Insurance.
I have always had my own Renters Insurance. The old owner never requested a new verification from me, and was unaware of new owners being Storage Mart and the new requirement.
Was never contacted by phone or notified by mail by Storage Mart until 2 years later - they simply proceeded to add two monthly Insurance charges. Pure greed, if you ask me. Hopefully a judge sees it this way..
