DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS BANK
I had implant surgery with a nearby dentist. A week before the surgery, the office lady charged me for the estimated cost. She opened an account with Synchrony Bank in my name (she had my SSN), activated a charge card in my name, and placed the unauthorized charge for $8K. Apparently, Synchrony Bank pays her a commission if she opens accounts or charges services on their credit cards. This is explained on the Synchrony website under "providers". So its a win-win for them. She gets about $1,000 in commission and the bank owns a loan with 27% interest. The only loser is me.
I had arranged for a real credit card with 18 month 0% APR for this charge. But I was stuck with a 27% loan with Synchrony bank and no intro APR. I disputed the transaction 3 times, but of course Synchrony denied me, as they are financially interwoven with the person who placed the fraudulent charge. I contacted the government and they suggested that I press criminal charges, which is still an option. This bank laughed at me as they sent rejections to my disputes. They sent the same letter each time, with nothing but a check mark next to "Received Services". Of course I received services, that is not the issue!
Then they actually reversed the charge for the dental services and placed a charge from Synchrony Bank for the same amount. This actually increased the amount of interest that I would pay. I gave up on calling their CS, because it surreal, like a twilight zone, how incompetent the reps AND the bank are. Nobody can be that dumb. They were trying to abuse me so that I would stop caling. Today, after the 3rd dispute rejection, they sent me another credit card. I sent it back. This bank is criminal. They committed several felonies in dealing with me. They have NO conscience and will do ANYTHING to screw a consumer. I will be filing federal charges against the person who made the charge and against the bank.

This is a pretty accurate description of my service. Additionally, customer service reps seem to be trained to ask obvious questions to make it harder to get answers. Lots of hoops and lots of tricky financial loop holes. Very disappointing. Additionally they tack on additional charges after my card is closed even though I'm told there is nothing left to pay.
