The College Network scam and fraud

I am an LPN and a rep came to my house of course talking up TCN, she came july 8 and that was a thursday...I called on the 16th to cancel, i had worked the previous 4 days midnights 12 hr shifts so i didnt get a change prior, well they told me I could not cancel and i owe them 10000! They werent even cashign my first 100 check until the 18th so i stopped payment on the 2nd check, they will not see another penny from me! They are nothing but a scam, scamming nurses and anyone else who goes there, There program is all lies! And i was also told id be able to defer my othe 800 in student loans a month which was a reason i did sign up well siine they are NOT an actual college I cant defer anything! And the advisor name Honesty (Ironically) Bodiford told me i would be able to do that! I called her about it and she completely denied it of course, she said she has worked for this ### hole for 7 years! no wonder she had some big rockss on her hands shes been helping scam all these innocent people in a terrible econmy! How do people live with them selves. This program needs to be shut down, maybe with enough of us there is somethign we can do!

I'm in the Excelsior program. I love it. TCN has been honest with me. The material is good. I've passed every exam. No one has mislead me. And I don't mind paying for TCN, because I used the service correctly. You all have very poor attitudes. If you did your homework, you would understand what you signed up for. I hear a lot of complaints b/c people sign up and then change their minds and want their money back. Of course you're not gonna get it back...you signed a promissory note.

I'm doing it and I'll tell ya, if I fail at a class or something bad happens to me and I can't keep going, I'm not going to blame TCN. That's petty. Be self-responsible and stop whining.

I personally know people who have signed up with TCN and then enrolled at Excelsior and who are now working ADN and BSN nurses. And they didn't have any complaints either.

I have also signed up for this so called program. LPN to RN. I do not feel that I am going to receive what I was promised. I also was LATER informed when I called College Network that I had to pay another 1950 dollars for the clinicals that are somewhere else and that I had to sign up with Excelsior College and pay whatever they wanted and that they would do some kind of financing. I was not informed of these last two bits of information by the guy who came to my house. GORDON PEARSON. He told me when I asked him that the clinicals might be 375 dollars but in the first place he never said it would be an extra cost and about excelsior, he said it was included in my loan and that they, THE COLLEGE NETWORK, would take care of signing me up with Excelsior. Of course, this was the wrong information. I am thoroughly upset with the company as well. They did tell me they were a publishing company only, but GORDON told me if I needed any help, to please contact him and he would help him. I am going to do just this, but I am sure that it won't do any good.

I also was told that that TCN was affiliated with Excelsior and that by using their program was the first step was told no waiting periods for testing or clinicals everything was at my own pace. Was told the price for the study modules was 2500 but I have been paying on my loan for 21/2 yrs every month and I still owe 1900.I too feel I have been mislead and TCN is fraudelent but I am not sure how to file a civil action if anyone has started I would be interested in joining them also I can be contacted at smsellers007@aol.com

The College Network lvn to bsn program

Anyone who is thinking in obtaining their degree thru college network should not sign up. I recently enrolled and found that I only have 3 days to decide whether i like the program or not. I took the 1st test and failed because the questions are totally different from the text book and the online test that they provide thru their website is a joke. Plus scheduling for the test is a nightmare! DO NOT TAKE YOUR RN THRU COLLEGE NETWORK! It's a SCAM!..Now I'm stuck with $6000 loan for classes that i'm not taking...Plus they said they'd guarantee admission thru Indiana state university and that's a big fat LIE!

Pam,

The company that has been calling you is not The College Network. It is a third party collection agency by the name of Lockhart, Morris, and Montgomery. I have forwarded your concerns to the appropriate party within our company so that your claims can be researched.

Unfortunately, since I do not have enough information to locate your specific account, and only the phone number that you have provided for the collection agency, I am unable to determine the identity of the specific collection's representative who has been calling you. If you would like to provide more information, I would be happy to forward it on for review.

With regard to earning your degree, let me remind you that it is never too late to get started. Please contact Academic Support at [protected] for assistance in restarting your program. Your success and satisfaction with our products and services is important to us.

The College Network bad business contract

WAS PRESSURED INTO SIGNING A CONTRACT IN WHICH I WAS TOLD WOULD HELP ME OBTAIN MY ADN. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD APPLY FOR A LOAN TO COVER EXPENSES MY GRANT WOULDNT. I WASNT AWARE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY SOME UNKNOWN SECONDARY COMPANY NAMED CITY CREDIT. OR THAT I COULDNT USE MY OWN BOOKS AND STILL PAY THEM FOR MATERIALS I DONT HAVE AND DONT NEED. APPROX 2 MONTHS AFTER SIGNING AND BEGINING MY COURSES ASSIGNED, I GET A LETTER STATING THEY NEED A TRANSCRIPT FROM A PREVIOUS COLLEGE TO COMPLETE MY COURSE OUTLINE. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE PRIOR TO ENROLLING. I ALSO WASNT INFORMED PRIOR TO SIGNING CONTRACT THAT EXCELLSIOR COLLEGE IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE COLLEGE NETWORK. THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT SPOKE WITH ME TOLD ME WHAT SHE FELT I NEEDED TO HEAR. FOR THE PAST 5 MONTHS, I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM TCN. I DECIDED TO CALL AND CANCEL MY ENROLLMENT AS I LOST A JOB AND CAN NO LONGER AFFORD TO PAY THIS UNUSED FEE. I WAS TOLD I OWE THEM AND HAD TO PAY. THEY WERE QUITE RUDE. I ASKED WHY AM I REQUIRED TO PAY FOR SUPPLIES THAT I DONT HAVE. THE RESPONSE WAS, "BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO."

I also signed up with College network and yes they also borrowed money on my behalf from Southeast financial. The biggest mistake and finacial blow of my life. i have called and requested many many times exam checks to take a test after completion of modules. THEY WILL NOT SEND IT!. The first one ive been waiting on since October 2014...its still processing is the response i get everytime i call to follow up on it. Also they charged me for an algebra module and exam fee i didnt even need and showed proof and transcript that i had already taking that class at a local college prior to signing up with college network. They will not refund it. So im paying for a module i dont even need. Ive started some procedures and filing complaints.

My problem with the college network has been funding. When I signed up I was under the impression that I would get some financial help with my program. I am in a finanical bind at this time and am unable to pay for the program that I signed up for. I have not recieved any material or have ask for anything else from the college network. The only thing I want is to get out of the contract and keep the college net work from continuing to hassle me about a bill I cannot afford to pay.
I can also let you know that if the college net work continues to hassle me I will have to contact an attorney to file bankruptcy. The advisor I had was not truthful with me when I signed up. I also thought that I would get my degree thru a college in WV. and then was told I had to join Indiana University to get my degree. To recap please stop calling me about this and give the credit union back their money which you took on my behalf for this program.
Thank You,
Susan Lonas-Smith

Dear Joyce,

When you sign up for the program, your Program Advisor uses the information made available at that time to complete a preliminary analysis of the courses that will be required to complete your degree. Once your file makes it's way to Academics, your transcripts are ordered. This allows us to verify your prior course work versus the degree requirements of the school with which you will enroll.

Prior to signing up if you notify your Program Advisor that you are completing courses locally, or if there are courses that you know you will not need materials for, you simply need to inform your Program Advisor and those courses would not be added.

With regard to our relationship with Excelsior College, the paperwork you completed states that we are not affiliated. We do have a collaborative agreement for their BSN program, but not for the ASN.

I have forwarded your complaint to our Customer Care Unit. It is my sincerest hope that they will be able to answer any additional questions and assist in resolving your complaint.

Sincerely,
Rick

The College Network fraud

I was also pulled into this scam by a rep with The College Network. The rep lied and when i tried to contact her she had her phone number changed. The company also defended her. Today, I spoke with a lawyer and was told to call the Att. Gernerals Office in my state, check their accred., contact the Federal Bank Comm. about the Credit Union and find out if they have been band from other states. Make sure you can find at least five other states that they have been band from before you contact the att. general in your state. The lawyer I spoke with also recommended to find out if anyone has a class action suit going and join. TCN know that it will be very expensive to sue them and this makes it easy for them to take advantage of people. If anyone has more suggestion please post.

The College Network terrible experience

I was among one of the many people ripped off from this company. The 'advisor' that came to my house told me that the company I work for was talking to TCN and they were trying to set up some kind of arrangement so the company I work for would pay tuition assistance. That never happened.

All I have received from TCN is several cheaply put together binders that is suppose to get me my RN. They are charging me over $6000 not counting interest for binders you can get off Ebay for next to nothing.

Once I signed with them, I have never heard from them again. They do not care about your education. I was also not aware they are just a publishing company. They have nothing to do with a college.

I recieved a collection letter the other day from a collection agency. I have already paid them over $1500 and feel they don't deserve another dime. This company needs to be investigated by someone. Too many people have been ripped off. By the way Rick, if you make a comment after this, I won't believe a word you say.

I also signed up with College Network. They are not very straight forward. I also believe they are rip off artists. They do not stress to you that you have to enroll in Excelsior College and pay more money for tuition, the clinical test, etc. All TCN provides are the modules which you pay a fortune for. Once I signed up no one has called me to ask how I am progressing. Why should they?! They have my money now. You reap what you sow though. It will come back to the company. I hope no one else gets fooled into believing this company. I don't see how someone can look you in the face and manipulate. It is sickening.

The College Network unauthorized billing

Initially when I signed up for the program. Intended on completing theLVN to RN Program. After 30 days I several large boxes with binders. Which they call study materials. Shortly after that my sister was diagnosed with aggressive Breast Cancer. I became responsible for my sister's care, financially and physically.

Taking her to and from Chemotherapy, dealing with her illness and inability to tolerate the Chemo, paying her bills and mine. I am her sole support. I continued making payments to protect my credit. The payments were being deducted from my Checking Account. I called The College Network to explain my situation. And I was told to write a letter to Bernard Schraeder in Las Vegas Nevada.

I did as I was instructed. I even submitted my siter's medical records and treatment plan. Which is in violation of HIPPA Regulations. I asked Mr Schrader if he would show special consideration to my situation and allow me to cancel my contract. After about a month or so I received a letter from Mr Schrader stating that all learning materials have been sent to me and i am therefore required to continue making payments. And that I could contact Barbara Wiggins @ [protected].

I continued to call Mr Schrader, he never returned any of my calls. I returned all of the binders. Stopped the payments. I called Ms Wiggins and was told the the same thing. I was responsible for making payments and I have to have a bank acct. Now I am receiving calls from Corporate America (the lender). Not only am I not satisfied with the learning materials, my sister has a battle to fight and she needs me there for her.

I explained this to Mr Schraeder and Ms Wiggins. So basically I am paying for something that I am not satisfied with and fighting a battle with my sister. The program is Bogus and the learning materials suck. Not only that, you have to pay each time you take a test. The contract is designed for The College Network to make money. They have been paid by the lender. And refuse to send the money back to the lender under no circumstance. My back is against the wall. WILL YOU PLEASE HELP ME.

I agree with everyone with the exception of 'Rick' who apparently was too embarassed to give anyone his full name, even though he is presenting himself as a spokesman for the company. This isn't really a comment, but a question as to whether anyone out there has come to a satifactory resolution with this company through the Better Business Bureau or the Attorney General's office. I am trying to help a friend who is having a similar problem with the company and is at risk of losing her home if she can't get out of this ridiculous contract.

I totaly agree with everyone on their experience with The College Network. I was not told everything up front and I was completely mislead. I was stuck with paying a bill that I really could not afford and with a false hope that I would have my RN within a short matter of time but of course that did not happen. I would not recommend the college network to anyone because they get your hopes up under false pretenses and you are left footing a bill that you cannot pay and still no advancement in your career. I was threatened to be sued if I could not pay. They put on a front like they are affiliated with Excelsior university when they are actually not. Please take it from me, don't call the college network if you want to continue your education or you'll end up like me stuck with a bunch of binders that are supposed to be study guides collecting dust and taking up room in your home. I think it is sad that they prey on middle class citizens whose only hope is to provide a better living for their family by furthering their education and getting a better paying job. I hope that their efforts will be put to a stop because their salaries are being paid by those who fall victim to their fraudulent practices.

The College Network fraud and cheating

I have placed many calls to this company starting soon after I was pulled into this scam. The company Rep sat at my table and told us so many things that were not true.

First being The College Network was affiliated Excelsior College. This was a big lie. Not only are they not affiliated but on one call to my “education advisor" he actually said “when you call them don't let them know you are working with us as we are not on very good terms" When I spoke to Excelsior's Admissions Department they were happy to confirm this. LIE #1

We were told that acceptance to Excelsior College was guaranteed. LIE #2

My wife and I were also told after I asked about the cancellation policy only being 3 days, that he would put it in our contract that I could take the first course and once I “ace" the test if I still wanted to cancel it would be no problem. LIE#3

I did not receive and have not received a copy of everything I signed including the extended cancellation policy when asked about this I was told that I could get copies of the contract but there was no extended cancellation agreement supported by the company. Let's put that the category of LIE#4

When I brought this to the attention of The College Network all they would say is they apologize and that Rep is no longer with the company. To that I say, who cares! Your Reps misrepresent your program to grab their commissions and then they run leaving the consumer to suffer with nothing but a loan that you cannot get out of.

Here is your chance to put things right. Hopefully there is an attorney out there that would like to take on this class action. Whether or not the Rep is with the company or not is no concern of mine. The fact is these guys are engaging in deceptive trade practices to obtain the business and then offer no resolution.

I was diagnosed with MS during studies with TCN. I was told if I sent a letter from my physician stating it would be impossible for me to finish school at this time. I sent the letter and my written letter to TCN. The reply was good I thought. I was told in a letter that I was successfully dropped from the program and the loan would be paid back and I would owe no more payments. My total was 10, 000. I have been contacted by a debt collector threatening me to pay the remaining 6, 400 or they would take action, I don't understand. I can't find the original letter I received because I recently moved. The debt company is threatening me daily. I have to call by tomorrow or I am responsible for the what they said I no longer had to make payments. This is bad d/t me not working much anymore d/t progression of MS.

I completely agree! I also fell into this scam! They had me sign up for 7 classes total and of those 7 classes 4 of them had to be completed by ISU, which I knew I was only paying for the material...problem is now ISU doesn't require them to be taken before the nursing program and you actually take them while in the program. I contacted TCN regarding this asking if I would be refunded for these classes I don't need. Their response was "No, you are responsible for the amount." Also, I asked TCN about recent statements I have been receiving from Elements Financial stating they are not receiving my payment. TCN assures me they are paying it, but Elements has no record! Luckily Elements is going to look into it and not penalizing me for TCN mistake since I have been put on automatic withdraw and gave them a confirmation number I was given. I have been asking for 2 weeks now how to get off of automatic withdraw with no answer! I am so over TCN and will NEVER EVER refer them to anyone else and have also contact the Head of Nursing at Ivy Tech letting them know my situation so they don't keep recommending them to their students. Never again!

I agree with you al. I signed up for college network because it gave me the freedom to do the classes at my own pace. I took a lot of time to get started ( 4years) because things happened. Now that Ive finally started, I find out that you have to pay for the testing up front and then they will reimburse you. Not that big a deal. Only, it has been 17 weeks since I finished and passed my first class and still no check! I can handle paying for one class up front, but not several. At this rate, I'll never finish all of the classes I've signed up for. When I initially called they said that disbursements were taking up to 12 weeks, but this is ridiculous. I couldve saved my money and went to a local college for the same that itws going to cost me to finish. And these are just the prereqs for the program, which I was told I was paying for the complete program. so before everything is done, college network is going to cost me about $22, 000 when I coulve went to a bridge program locally for far less. When I asked about a full refund, of course they said no. I had no idea about the 3 day rule either. I was told that I would be refunded if not happy after my first class.

Sad, sad to take advantage of hard working people!

I agree with the complaints. And you cannot decide if the program will work for you in just 3 days! It takes a whole lot longer to receive all your online stuff to even look at. I have been paying this loan for 3 years and haven't ever received any shipment, haven't logged into the site in probably 2 years now. I called to cancel everything and the rep told me that's my choice but I still have to pay it off to Southeastern credit union. Southeastern directs calls back to TCN. It's such a scam. I asked the TCN rep if she is saying that even though I haven't completed even 1 course or taken any exams that if I don't EVER use them that they still get paid for services/materials for which I never took. She said yes. This is a horrible company. I am going to have to stop payments and ruin my credit until an attorney can Fix this and get my money back for the past 3 years. Yes attorney I said. So TCN if you are paying attention, I am the one person who is getting an attorney to come after you. Unless you talk to southeastern-pay off my loan-and return all of my money. Good luck.

I met with a rep/ salesman about their program. She lied during the whole process. Not only did she lie once but three different times. I found out that The College network has 167 complaints with the BBB in their state. TCN is a publishing company only. There is a credit agency that works with TCN by the name of American Credit Exchange. They are in the same building and they are a part of TCN. A man by the name of Gary Eyler has posted something on this site, well he is the principal for TCN. I am in the process of doing more research into TCN but i am going to start with the Commission of colleges and schools in my region. I will also contact the Department of Education in Washington, DC. I am going to file a complaint with TCN and i will mail the complaint to all the agency's listed and some that are not. Too numerous to name. I would suggest that everyone else do the same.

The College Network liars

They lied and stated the were from excelsior college and I was enrolling in the college and I would receive my textbooks included in the cost of tuition. It has been years I have paid $140 a month for their worthless "books" not the college and I still owe over $4, 000! This guy came to my house and made all kinds of promises like I would receive a tutor and such. They should be held accountable for all the people they ripped off and for claiming they were from Excelsior! A good story can only last so long! They should be out of business!

I paid in full for this program. I was assured that I was able to start the program at my own pace. Now, I can't even reach them by phone. What do I do?

I signed up for courses. Completed a couple and recently went back to finish the rest but figured out they filed for bankruptcy. Is it possible to get restitution to actually use the money for a legitimate college?

I signed up and was told there was no limit on how long I take. Life got busy, and I didn't get to it. I just recently decided to jump in and get this knocked out since I spent so much money on it, and there is nothing available. This was a scam.
