Over the past twenty years I've leased many, many cars. At the end of each lease I've turned in the car and have never -- not once -- been charged for any out of he ordinary wear. All of the cars I've turned in had some minor scratches, the occasional door ding, and so forth. No charges. Ever.
U.S. Bank, on the other hand, seems to have discovered a profit center in charges for "out of the ordinary" wear. After 39 months of use on a Lexus RX330, they found a buffable scratch on the front fender, treads too low on one tire, and scratches on the outer 1/2" of the rim or two wheels. The total charges for wear are $836.00. There is not a single other scratch on the car -- anywhere.
I called to tell them that I was willing to pay for the worn tire, but the scratches on the rims were going too far. I was curtly told that this is in their stated policy and that I could write a letter but they would bill me regardless. Thank you for calling U.S. Bank.
I will never lease a car from them or use any other U.S. Bank service. They have no interest in the customer and they appear to be using fine print to boost the bottom line.
I also had a infiniti fx45 leased w/ US Bank, and wasn't happy with their customer services. Two months after I paid the termination bill with all the fees they had charged they send me a bill for a "new" wear and tear item. I am trying to dispute the charge.
I had almost the exact same experience. I have leased 7 or 8 cars in the past and always return them in very good condition. Leased a Lexus IS300 for 4 years and returned it in extremely good/clean condition. US Bank came up with $700 of really nit-picky "excess wear" charges, mostly small scratches on the bumpers. I agree - I will NEVER do business with these people again. I am also kind of upset with my local Lexus dealer in setting up the lease through USBank.
I too have had a similar problem with a Suburu Outback. The $750 charge includes $200 for 24 chips on the bumper... now if that's not normal wear and tear I don't know what is. Clearly, unlike the Manufacture's own leasing companies, this is a transaction, rather than a relationship. I urge everyone one to publicize these deceptive trading practices so others don't get similalry swindled.
I agree with the lack of services and operations from US Bank. Who can we report this sub-standard service. This is the worst financial services organization. NO ONE in their organization has a clue of what is happening with my lease and this experience is a nightmare.
So these cowboys also include a superfluous monthly payment and late charge on the final bill which is over and above contractual payments already made. When I called them on it, they said it was for not returning the car to the original dealer although all subsequent paperwork received from them said this wasn't necessary providing you notified them... which I did. Given that they removed it immediately and they disguised is as another "monthly" payment is further evidence of their decpetive trading practices. This is a class-action lawsuit waiting to happen. Count me in when someone gets round to it.
I am in the midst of freeing myself from US Bank. They are without a doubt the most difficult financial institution I have ever dealt with. They want to get it all on the first round because they must be aware they will never ever get repeat business. I actually ask the rep I talked with how they treated their bad customers because this good customer certainly felt abused! Never ever do business with US BANK, I agree whole heartedly that a class action suit might get their attention.
I'm also having an unpleasant experience with US Bank and my lease termination. I had the Lexus RX330 pre-inspected before it was picked up. The only thing that showed up on the inspection was that the floor mats were missing. I had the car completely detailed and the floor mats were steam cleaned and were drying in my garage. When I got the final inspection, they listed $1880.00 in damages. It was like they inspected a the wrong vehicle. I was never late with a payment, I had the car detailed before termination, and it was delivered at under the specified lease miles and they still want to squeeze more $ out of the lease. I refused to pay the damages and told them I was contesting the charges. The customer service rep didn't sound surprised with my statement. If anyone is reading these complaints and are near the lease termination with US Bank, make sure you take lots of pictures of your lerase vehicle and prepare to do battle!
I had the same thing just happen. My cars are always in great shape when I am done with them. I've leased 5 cars prior to this one and never been assessed any charges for "excess wear" but they sent out a guy who spent an hour going over every square inch of this car and found a half dozen buffable scratches which they are saying I have to pay $439 to refinish...total B.S.

I also had many many many problems with US Bank! They kept charging me late fees even though ALL OF MY PAYMENTS WHERE MADE ON TIME! I had many go rounds with them. And they constantly called me ### about not recieving the monthly lease payment which they did because it showed in my account that the check had been cashed. They added up over $500.00 worth of late charges that were bogus! I turned the vehicle in this march and had a payment fo through days after I turned it in. I contacted US Bank and told them that a payment was made after the vehicle was turned in. They told me they would refund the money immediatley. Well needless to say I have yet to receive my refund to this point and its been well over a month and a half! I called them at least a half dozen times about it and have been told thats it's been sent out. Well where is it? Funny how they are all up in your ### when they want their money but take a lifetime to refund. Time to call them everyday like they do to their customers!
I will never deal with US Bank ever again. Serious issues with their accounting for payments and bad book keeping.
I have been leasing cars since 1994. Each and every one of the cars that I have returned has been in excellent condition. I have never been charged for any "ANY" thing upon returning the vehicles. I recently completed a three year lease on a XC90 in “excellent” condition with US BANK. Not one single dent, 7 pencil sized rock chips in the hood and lower bumper. They sent me a final bill for $871.00 for, a windshield with a chip the size of an eraser head next to the windshield wiper. Not in the drivers view, only able to be seen from the outside of the vehicle. The rest of the cost is for, motor oil (change every 7500 miles), trans oil (change at 52000 miles), power steering, (Volvo owners manual states power steering fluid does not need to be changed) brake fluid (change at 30000 miles), The report said they are all dirty. Dirty? The inspector never looked at the dip sticks or opened the brakes master cylinder. The vehicle only had 23995 miles. US Bank is the worst banking intuition I have every dealt with and I will never deal with them again! One can only hope that more people will read these comments before they enter into a wallet draining contract with US BANK!
I bought out my lease over a year ago. I had 3000.00 in excessive fees which i paid. This past month i recieved a letter from the ### saying i have 355.00 worth of personal property tax that i need to pay. They haven't had a contract with me in almost a year and now they want this. I would never lease or do business with us bank.
I turned in a 2005 Chrysler 300C at lease end, leased through U.S. Bank, to the dealer from which I leased it. Three weeks later, I received a letter from U.S. Bank demanding another $430 for "Contractual Termination Fee" plus tax. I haven't talked to them about it yet, but I intend to demand proof from them that they can charge this fee, that they have never mentioned, after the lease has been satisfied. Probably not going to pay it. If they damage my credit rating so I can't buy a new car, who cares? Until new cars get over 60mpg, I'm not buying one anyway. Not doing further business with U.S. Bank under any circumstances.
I just received a bill for 1700. The inspector said the car had normal wear. US Bank provided a list of of charges with an emphasis on paint scratches and a missing decal on a wheel ($500!) Crooks!
This happened with my wife's Volvo too.
My suggestion is people start suing them in small clams court. This will drive them nuts and cost you little to nothing - possibly some of your time if they decide not to let the fees go.

The WORST. A cretin just called from U.S. Bank as my wife's auto lease -- which I pay -- is with them, unfortunately.
He refused to tell me what the call was about, because my name is not on the lease because she wanted to do it herself. I hope they get mass-sued, class action and beyond.
I turned in a lease on a VW Toureg with 5000 unused miles and fairly new tires. US Bank did to me what they did to all of the above - riduculous wear and tear charges. They origianally sent me after 29 days from turning the car in a bill with just an amount for over $1, 000 - no detail. When I asked for detail they actually sent me a detailed form with pencil line outs reducing the bill about $100 - think about that charges crossed out in pencil. I have sent them two registered letters disputing every charge and I fully intend on turning this over to an attorney no matter the legal costs.
I will keep people posted on whether I win or lose.
Incidentally I believe the vehicle was in tip top shape period.
I Totally Agree, My wife and I Bought a seqouia and lost our baby and our business all in the same 3 months. We had no choice but to return the vehicle to them. I apologized and explained I am a business owner and have no insurance so I am getting hammered with hospital bills. I put DVD's in this running boards all with my own money. Well I got a letter that they are going to Sue me for $37000.00 They said the car auctioned for 15 grand...I am speachless...Heartless people. I mean it had less than 2000 miles and in perfect shape...I Don't know what I am going to do..
Just returned my wife's 2005 Volvo XC-90. EXACTLY the same complaints as the original post: $900 in BS "excess wear" charges for scratches on two rims ($600) and a "cut" on the black rubber rear bumper ($300). Note that this was a SUV that I had detailed and run through the body shop to remove dings.
They said I had a "late charge" pending because I made a late payment at some point (they couldn't tell me when or why it wasn't charged against my account at the time it happened). When I explored it, I discovered that they had called me on an unreceived auto withdrawl payment so I paid them directly (over the phone) and then the auto payment had gone through. So after the owned up to the double payment, they credited me back the late fee and the payment, but kept it to go against the lease termination fee and the other charges.
Of course, all is forgiven/credited if you buy the car (which they contacted me 20 times to do.)
In fact, the only reason I found this chain is because I was trying (in vain) to find a contact number in the leasing department to complain and make sure that they don't keep auto-debiting my account (which my dealer whispered to me that U.S. Bank does and then makes it hard for you to get it back!)

Us bank is the worst bank I have ever dealt with.
I have other bank send them checks over the mail for my payments. I make sure to send the paments at least 12 days before they are due. At least 3 times US Bank claims they did not get the checks eventhough my bank showed theat it was mailed on time. They did not remove the late fees. Since then I was going myself to the branch and paying at the teller.
I too, got a $950 bill for little dings and scratches. I had my body shop fix it for $600. I am returning the car tomorrow. Let's see what they say...

I am about to turn in my leased 2003 Jeep Liberty and have had almost the exact same treatment from US Bank as the previous postings have indicated. My end of lease inspector found $851 worth of bumper nicks, buffable marks, and wheel rim corrosion. This vehicle is 5 years old! Doesn't this qualify as normal wear and tear? I have already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and have contacted Chrysler to complain for engaging such a crooked leasing partner. Obviously, consumers are being gouged every day by US Bank. If I am able to edit my Better Business Bureau complaint, I will paste this link to provide more proof. Wish me luck!
I too have leased cars from numerous organizations over the last 20 years and have never had a problem. Not only did US Bank charge me for a fan belt after I turned the car in, and trust me when I say that my 2004 GX470 was immaculent when I turned it in, BUT- after I called and told them to stop the automatic withdrawls they continued to take money out of my checking account and refused to give it back, telling me that it will go towards my dispostion fee and any other charges. If there is any money left over they will send me a check . They refused to tell me who their manager is in the closed lease department. They put me on hold over and over, told me their immediate supervisor was in meetings and were not helpful at all. Rude even. I finally spoke with a Christine and she assured me that her supervisor Lisa was going to have a check go out to me the next day and it would be sent overnight. I called the day it was due to confirm that it was sent. IT WAS NOT. This bank is crooked. Please don't get stuck in their quagmire, don't use US BANK.
Our contact with U S Bank also is a disaster. We turned in a leased Jaguar when we purchased a new vehicle. We were sent a bill for $1700.00 for excessive wear. This included small scratches $100.00, replace scratched alloy wheels $1, 000.00 and $600.00 for damage to the front bumper. I returned to the dealer where we made our new purchase and after a thorough inspection with the General Manager and another employee, found there to be absolutely no damage whatsoever to the front bumper. I spoke to a customer service person (a term I use very reluctantly) at U S Bank and stated the scratches were no larger than a credit card, which is the industry measuring stick, I was told "that is not how it is at U S Bank." After eventually reaching a Supervisor in New York per my insistence, he agreed that his pictures showed no front bumper damage and would give me a break and remove that amount. He truly was not giving me a break, he was simply removing an amount that was fraudulently entered on the excessive wear billing. After I corrected the alloy wheel scratches and the small scratches by having a person in my local area do the work at a much lower cost, it was agreed that our returned Jaguar was now ready to be sent to an auction for resale. Then some more fun began. I was told the remaining payments and the turn-in fee needed to be paid. I informed the Supervisor those were paid by the dealership. The supervisor had no record of it but I had in my possession a copy of the check and a copy of the checking account statement of the dealer showing the check clearing the bank. Around 10 days later I received by mail a delinquent notice for that amount. I placed a phone call and gave to the customer service person the telephone number of the Supervisor I spoke to previously. Several days later, my wife received a telephone call over her On Star system in her new car that told her she was delinquent and the payoff must be paid immediately. How embarrassing to people who have excellent credit. Another customer service person I spoke with about this phone call said their skip tracing department found the On Star number and placed the call. Now we suddenly were skipping out on the payoff! When I asked her to verify no money was owed, she said that yes, it seems to have been paid and couldn't understand why we received a telephone call. The bottom line of all this is if you are contemplating leasing a vehicle through U S Bank ---------- DON'T! They have no clue what they are doing --- or do they?

I am just one of many, who have been riped off by USB LEASING DEPT. I just turned in a 2005 christler 300 touring 4yr lease 3000 miles under mil. in exalent condition but not accordingly to us bank and the company the hire and pay to turn in a inspection report in their favor. 1100 dollars just to start with .I think its time we and by we I mean all yuo people who have been vicmanized by these people, lets get together and file a class action suit.

U.S. Bank is absolutely crooked. Five years ago, U.S. Bank tried to rip me off with excess wear and tear charges of $1, 526 on an immaculate vehicle and to this day I am still trying to get this off of my credit report. I definitely think a class action suit should be filed against them. I recently filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and am waiting to see if I get any response. After months and months of disputing and appealing this fraudulent claim with U.S. Bank, they just went ahead and reported it to the Credit Bureau without any validation whatsoever. I wanted them to file a lawsuit against me because I knew that I would win, but instead they just put in on my credit report. I do not understand how this is even possible! I think my only alternative is to file a lawsuit against them.

I will not have another lease. US Bank is the worst leasing institution is have ever had to deal with. You call them and they lie to you on the phone. Normal wear and tear becomes items become exesssive wear $311 and $395 turn in fee. I am having the insurance company replace the windshield on the lease car (lexus RX330). The turn in fee should have taken care of the little ding and marks in the bumbers. I do not recomend this leasing company or bank to anyone.
OMG! I thought I was the only IDIOT out there who got stuck by US BANK! We should start a support group for "people who have been screwed over by this lending institution!" I leased in Texas and moved to NY. After I got there USB told me I 'was not allowed to live in the state of NY that I needed to move back to TX'...What the Hell? I have a guy at my house right now going over the 2004 Explorer with a microscope. $397-just to terminate the lease! After reading the comments everyone else wrote I have no doubt that it will be cheaper to pay off the $12, 197 to own it (on a 2004 explorer-double blue book value) than it will be to get rid of it. If you folks want to band together and sue them, I am all for it. HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT? I would rather live in a cardboard box then screw people over the way these people do to make a living. I tried re-writing the loan with another lending institution and they told me there would be a $10, 000.00 early termination penalty fee! I moved from TX to NY to MA to GA-each time my payment went UP.
O phewww... i signed papers...and i was going to get my father to co-sign as my did not get approved by them... good i wont re-sign with my dad and the old contract is NULL. I will stick to my 3-4 year old used cars... NO BS and NO worry... 2004 G35 here i come ...lol..

BEWARE of US Bank Vehicle Leases. If you don't buy your vehicle you will be charged a termination fee even
though the lease is up. They will send an inspector to find every little problem. My VAn was 5 years old
and my final bill ended up to be over $1800.00. This after never missing a payment for 5 years. Charged me
$250 for transmission noise even though the Van has a transferable 10 yr 100, 000 mile power train warranty.
Even charged sales tax for repairs never done. Read you US Bank lease contract carefully and fully. Better yet never lease with US Bank. They will find a way to get your money.
I can't believe I found this website with all these complaints. My issue is that I left the car at the dealership and I got the inspection report from US Bank and was completely blown away by the $1000 bill for excessive wear and tear. I went on vacation and upon my return (about a month or so after receiving the initial report) I called US Bank and wanted to discuss the charges and for the first time ever on the phone was told that I could view pictures and additional details made by the inspector. At any rate, I told them I wanted to get the car back so I could repair 2 items (as they even offer) and then was told the car was already gone from the Dealership. It was too late for that. I told the guy that their first communication to me w/ the report did not state any time frame that I needed to follow for obtaining my car. Was never contacted prior to them taking it to ensure I didn't want to make repairs myself. They do a very poor job of follow-up and providing all the rules at the end of the lease, or at a minimum, providing you a copy of the lease agreement indicating the exact steps to follow. They guy on the phone said there was nothing he could do, I owed the money and that was it. Plus the $395 fee. So then I told him I'd take my dear sweet time paying them back and he said they would turn me over to a collection agency. Can they do that if you put a dispute to them in writing? Anyway, I'll never use them again for sure! I'm just glad to know that I'm not the only one that got screwed or feels this way about US Bank. At the same time I do hate to hear it has happened to others though.
All of these are helpful but please share what you ended up doing! It seems that most of you were charged all these crazy amounts for normal wear but in the end did you end up paying them? If not, how did you get out of it? My lease is currenty under US Bank and I just want to prepare myself when the time comes to turn it in. Do I just count my losses now and already get in my head that I'm going to need to pay in the end.
I have a small ding in the back door (the color is still there, its just a ding), chips on my front bumber from all the rocks hitting it on the highway, and small scratches on the roof from wiping the snow off. But the rest is really clean, typical 3 years of use.

I leased for 5 years as well. My end of lease fees were 2, 800 for ridiculous charges on a vehicle in pristine condition. In addition, they said they were "reserving the right to charge me for any damages or problems with the vehicle not noted at this time". This roughly translates to ... 10years from now they can charge me if they feel like it. Someone I read about paid the $800 he was charged and six months later was charged thousands for a blown engine. I'll tell you what I did, paid the excess miles, the turn in fee and wrote them a letter. In addition, I reported them to the BBB in MN, the State of Georgia Consumer Affairs Office who forwarded my complaint to the Federal Bureau of Consumer Complaints, the dealership in TX where I leased the truck (who, by the way no longer uses USB for these very reasons) and hired a lawyer. I am waiting to see what these crooks do to me next... The stress of dealing with them for 5 years alone was a nightmare now this!
My advice is take pictures of every inch of the car, document everything, pay what you honestly fee you owe, contact the MN BBB and get a lawyer! Good Luck-anyone dealing with these people needs it!
Wow..wished I had read these complaints 4 years ago. I just got the U.S. Bank treatment, in the form of a final bill for $675 for "body work" for a car that has no noticeable dents or scratches. The car is also very low in mileage and has brand new tires, was meticulously maintained inside and out, and had routine trips to the dealer. It made no difference. A man named "Lonnie" in their lease maturity department even laughed when I said I would challenge this bill, saying "U.S. Bank is noted for it's strict enforcement of their excess wear and tear clause in their lease. (Apparently that would also justify a $40 charge for removing a decal from a back bumper!)

We terminated our lease five months ago and had a horrible wear and tear billing statement for a vehicle that was kept like new. We settled up and now they have the balls to bill me for a sales tax increase that they missed.
I sent a dispute letter about 2.5 to 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back from USBank. I'm guessing in the end, I'll have to pay up, but at least I'll feel better that I made them wait for their money. I also got the impression from speaking to someone there that nobody has ever disputed successfully and they indicated they would just send my account to a collections agency.
I leased a Lexus SC430 through US Bank, and once my lease was up they sent an inspector out to inspect my vehicle. They found $3900.00 in excess wear and tear damages. They said a tiny scratch on the door was $290.00 to repair. My tires were worn down, and my factory wheels were after market wheels. After arguing with them for days to correct some of these charges, they reduced the bill for the wheels, and I had the tires replaced. They also were attempting to charge me $250.00 because the "low tire pressure light" was on... which only required putting some air in one tire. In order to get all of this done in a timely manner, they granted me a ten day grace period to turn in my car. Prior to the ten days, I called several Lexus dealership asking to turn in my car, which was denied. They all kept telling me that their car lots were too full to take the vehicle. I called the dealership that I purchased my vehicle from and they gave me the hardest time about returning the car to them, advising me to "have US Bank to pick it up". They finally agreed to take it. I returned the vehicle on the 10th day of the grace period. A few days later I received a phone call from US Bank regarding a payment. I explained to them they that I had returned the car and that I was granted a ten day grace period. At that point I was informed that the grace period was only for eight days and that I had returned the car two days late, and they were charging me an additional $890.00 plus a late fee of $39.00. This has been a nightmare with US Bank... I made note of every person I spoke with at US Bank letting them know that the dealerships were refusing to take the vehicle and each time I was told that I still had time to turn the vehicle in because of the grace period that I was granted. I will never do business with US Bank ever again!
Unfortunatley I didn't find this website sooner. My end of lease was coming up and I started reading all these horro stories about the end of lease inspections and fees. They were ALL TRUE. I leased a 2005 Toyota Sequoia through US Bank. The only damage to the vehicle is a small scrape on one wheel and a ding on the back bumper. The vehicle only has 40, 000 miles (20, 000 under what I was allowed). US bank is charging me $742.20 for what it considers "excess" wear and tear. The vehicle is seriously in excellent condition inside and out. All scheduled maintenance, etc. I have leased 3 other vehicle and NEVER had to pay a dime. When I asked if there was a credit for the low miles they just laughed at me. I told them to expect 60, 000 when it's returned and they said that was my right. They are charging us to repaint the hood, which is absolutely ridiculous - microscopic paint chips. My husband said if they are going to charge to repaint the hood then he is going to spray paint US BANK SUCKS in red paint. Also beware of the $395 termination fee if you don't buy the vehicle. Like I said, I've leased 3 other vehicles and never had to pay a dime.
HERE'S ONE FOR YOU. I DECIDED TO BUY OUT MY LEASE. I WENT WITH MY CREDIT UNION BECAUSE THEY HAD A WAY BETTER RATE. ANYWAY THEY SENT US BANK A CASHIERS CHECK FOR THE TOTAL BUY OUT AMOUNT ALONG WITH THE SUPPORTING PAPERWORK US BANK PROVIDED. THE LEASE WAS PAID OFF AND I NOW OWN THE TRUCK. BUT WAIT, 2 WEEKS LATER US BANK GOES AND AUTO DEBITS ANOTHER PAYMENT FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT. SO I CALL THEM AND 2 DAYS 5 DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND A TRIP TO THE LOCAL US BANK LATER THEY AGREE THEY STOLED MY MONEY BUT I WILL HAVE TO WAIT 2-3 WEEKS FOR THEM TO SEND ME A REFUND CHECK. WITH ALL THE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES THAT ARE REGULATING EVERYTHING WE DO, SHOULDN'T THERE BE ONE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE CROOKED AS HELL BANKS? DO NOT EVER USE US BANK. YOU DON'T NEED THE CAR THAT BAD!
On August 31, we turned our lease car into a Chrysler dealer near us. The car was then termed as "grounded" (out of service). The U.S. Bank just couldn't seem to get an inspector to our home to look at the car in the last 45 days and the lease was to be up on September 16, so the U.S. Bank told us to turn it into the nearest Chrysler dealer. Since we didn't want to incur any additional costs on that vehicle that's what we did. That turned out to be a 2 hour hassle as the dealer tried to get the U.S. Bank's authorization to accept the car...it appeared they did not want the car back. The car sat in the dealer's lot and was not inspected until September 10. We just got an outrageous bill like everyone else on this site. Almost $900 to repair the outside of an immaculate car that was kept in the garage for the last five years and was turned in approximately 3, 000 miles under what was allowed on this lease. This $900.00 bill is open ended as it does not include any engine damage or power train damage...so they state on their bill that there may be more charges coming. When we signed this lease we had no idea that there would be no end to this lease. We also have a $395.00 charge owing at the end of this lease like all of you. What the U.S. Bank is asking all of us for is to have the car restored to a NEW car condition; this is a five-year-old car in excellent condition and anything showing is from "ordinary use!" We were billed for a September payment, which we do not owe. We were not afforded any opportunity to repair any minimal damage since the car is "grounded." What the U.S. Bank is doing here has to be illegal as they are gouging their customers with inflated and unwarranted charges. This is highly immoral and unethical and they seem to be extremely unrealistic and untrustworthy in determing what is considered "ordinary use." I have a feeling they do this to all of their customers no matter how perfect the condition of the car is. Like all of you we paid all of our payments on time and treated the car like it was our own. I agree with all of you who indicated that there should be a class action suit against the U.S. Bank. The courts should determine what "Out of ordinary wear" is. In actuality the U.S. Bank is forcing all lessee's to insure the total car and even a car manufacturer won't do that without an extended warranty and even then not everything is covered. I'm sure there are a lot more of us out there! You can count me in on a class action suit!
