washer
I just went to sears outlet on 10/07/2017 to purchase a washing machine so I applied for credit and was denied so it automatically went to this leasing program which I just found out is horrible. I called today to speak to a representative to set up payments so I can pay it off in 90 days. When I called I had to call twice because the first rep was so not understanding until I just had to say thank you and goodbye. So when I called the next rep he wasn't much better. I bought a washer for $479 and purchased the warranty for $179 which total $706 so I wanted to pay $233 every month for 3 months well I can't do that because this is not a rent to own. I will pay $117 for 5 months and still have to pay a large amount to get them off my back. This is highway robbery I regret going through them because this company is nothing but a loan shark. Never lease anything from this company. This is one of the worst companies out here and most of their reps are just reading and have no knowledge of their company. I really want to take this washer back and go somewhere else.

fraudulent lease by someone posing as me
On September 22nd, I received a privacy notice from a company I have never heard of called “Tempoe, LLC, ” regarding a recent lease. I've never leased anything in my entire life except a vehicle decades ago, so it made my red flag go up. I called the number on the form and turns out someone "leased" a big screen TV from Sears last week that costs $1, 000, and Sears uses Tempoe (also known as “Why Not Lease It”). The thief paid a small down-payment in my name and walked out with a new TV. I checked the credit reporting agencies (except Equifax as they are not currently allowing online checks due to the information breach, which is probably where the thief got my personal info that allowed him to pretend to be me) and they are not showing any new accounts at this time. I called Tempoe and the company representative said I have to send an email to [protected]@tempoe.com(which I did with no response) and also file an Affidavit of identity theft. Out of curiosity, I checked the Tempo website and discovered they do NOT do credit checks on their clients! I was also given the following information on the transaction:
Lease was made at Sears (Sears uses Tempoe LLC, also called “WhyNotLeaseIt”, as its leasing agency) at Deerbrook Mall, Humble, TX . Every time I call the SEARS direct number, they transfer me to Tempoe/WNLI, and since I don't have a Sears account to punch into the phone pad, they ask you to punch in your full 9-digit SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, followed by someone in India picking up the line! The simple fact that I would consider driving 50 miles away (100 miles round trip) to buy a TV when there is a Sears about 5 miles from my home should have raised a flag on Sears' end. I will continue to pursue this with Sears too.
The thief had all of my personal information, including name, address, social security, birthdate, and driver's license number. The only items that did not match were his phone number 713.454.1936 (I called and it is not a working number - duh), and email address (I forgot to write it down).
The lease was approved September 10, 2017, and the Approval ID number is: QY99H48. I have requested a copy of the Lease, but not sure it will have a forged signature on it as the representative said it may have been done electronically (who leases someone an expensive TV with no credit check and let's him do it without an original signature?). I have filed a police report and also a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
And I have no idea how much more stuff he will get away with . What's next ... a car at the Tote-the-Note car lot? I am so furious with all these companies that collect info on me, against my will and sometimes even without my knowledge, not keeping it safe.

refrigerator
They could not tell me anything about my plan. I told them I don't use email I am 75 years old and they had me use another. The company refused to mail me anything about my account. Every month they take out $200 in payments & even though 6 months ago I had already overpaid my buy out today was about $10 less than it was 6 months ago. This is robbery.

dryer
I bought a sears dryer in April 2016. Dryer cost $400
I paid half which left me with $200 and something which was put on why not lease. I was told after 5 payments I will be through. It is now September 2017 and I noticed they are still taking money out my account. So I added it up. I have made 18 payment at $70. That is rediculous. I will not use th his company again. They tell you one thing in the store and something else when Hou purchase the item. I would have bought the dryer but the lady in sears said it was a good program .

continued lease payments were removed after buyout was arranged.
Last year 8/7/2016, I made a $534.34 lease/purchase at Sears and a $681.99 lease/purchase at Kmart through Why Not Lease It. The company has been taking $44.61 for the first account and $56.85 for the second account every 2 week. I contacted the company on January 17, 2017 to set-up a buyout, which should have been arranged by the representative. This was not done with the representative and a totaling of 29 payments- $44.61 x 29 = 1293.69 / 56.85 x 29 = 1648.65. Total paid to this company is $2942.34 for products totaling $1216.33. More than double the purchase price was paid to this company. When I contacted them on 9/14/2017 to complain again and to stop taking money out of my account, they wanted me to set-up a new buyout and give them more money. I refused and I am waiting for a Supervisor with some kind of resolution and refund.
Continued lease payments were not stopped after buyout was arranged.

statement of paid in full for product bought through sears
I paid my loan off on August 4th, 2017. I was told at that time I should call back on September 3, 217, and request a statement that would be sent stating payment was made in full. I called on September 3, 2017. and was told I would receive a paid in full statement by e-mail within 72 hours and by mail within 3=4 days. Neither has happen.

why not lease it
This is the biggest rip-off. They do not explain that you will be paying over 50% of the original price after leasing for 5 months. The way it was explained to me was that after 5 months the buy out would be minimal. Not true. I leased an item for $238.00 trying to build credit, at a rate of $54.75 per month. After 5 months my buy out was $179.00. THIS IS A RIP-OFF. It does not help your credit either. Save your money and time. DO NOT DO THIS. You would be better off with a rent-a-center at least you will be headed for ownership, with why not lease it you will never obtain ownership. This company reverted back to the old days where people were fooled into getting furniture that they never could pay off. There should be laws against this type of robbery.
washer & dryer: company total scam!!!
It's ridiculous, this whole program is not what it seems. Sears employees a)have little to no knowledge about this program or b) they are not explaining what really happens after you think you have paid off your merchandise. Customers with low income or tight budgets should stay away, you are paying 3x the price . Better off saving and buying right out the store.
Customer Service is not the best either and are not even sympathetic to any issue. Do not waste your time!

Wow, I am on the phone with them right now and they tried to tell me that I have paid 1000 dollars for a 700 dollars lawn mower, seems like they have found a new way to scam people. Waiting to speak to the supervisor now.
appliances
Went to get appliances for my kitchen, had seen a sign that said something about payments.. when asked the questions about the payment program the rep told me it's a 5 month agreement if you pay it off before the 5 months you will not have to pay the interest.. When calling the company 4 months later to find out the amount left they given me a $700 difference from what I thought I had left to pay which was $300. When explaining to them what happened they offered me a 10% discount and I'm like lady that's nothing when I thought I only had $300 left.. when asking for the corporate office number no one had it not even the play play supervisor Tony Soto 9810 didn't have no information .. I will never do this again I wished I would have looked this up before signing into this agreement.. the company is full of sh** do not get tricked.. they will scam you and read things from a computer on why they can't help you... Word of mouth is a MF'er and I will be spreading the word to not trust why not lease or the sales people who has no knowledge of the program...

why not lease it scam
I purchased some items back in March 2017 total in 1003 dollars I made all my payments and when it past 6 months I was told that it would pay itself off after the payments in 9month period when I called to check on the amount of payments the rep said that I had paid $920 on the merchandise cost but that was not applied to the buyout option so when I asked...

My daughter moved into a house without a stove and went to Sears and bought a stove for $600 because she didn't have the cash if the time they signed her up with why not lease it.com. She was paying a $160 how month and she paid on it from November through July for the total of about $1, 400. Then she tried to find out why they were still taking the money out of her checking account and they said it was a lease and that she had to buy out the contract for an additional $450. She put a stop payment on her checking account because she can't afford to keep paying them. Crooks the government should look into companies like this she thought it was a rent to own and that's the way Sears represented the product so she didn't know that she had to buy it out at the time but she's signed the contract and I read it and they are really tight can't even go to court it's all arbitrated let's hope they don't come after her and just count it is services rendered

scan me and you're playing for this card which turns out to be a lease
Got a washer from Sears had no idea I was applying for why not lease it credit and I already had placed the order then they said to pay $89 for delivery which the washer is worth $400 I paid over $1000 for the washer turns out six months later the washer broke why not lease it says you need to keep paying I don't know who runs this company but they can go [censor] yourself I'm not giving you [censor]scam scam scam scam scam scam scam everybody and Sears in St. Paul Minnesota will tell you we don't know nothing about it and they're running
fridge/why not lease it, sears scamming customer and false advertising out of hard earned money for a quick buck
Ok so I was I need of a fridge and have used rent a center and aaron's which I was originally going to use but, since I was at sears this day and they were advertising that they had a program like that I decide let me do it here. Ok so the fridge I picked out was 599.99. With taxes and delivery etc etc is ame up to a total of 711.98. I made first down payment at the time of purchase on 2/26/17. I choose the by weekly option of 59.33. I continued to pay I time faithfully looking at paying it off on 9/01/17 because I will have paid in full the 711.98 which would mean I finally owned it. But as I looked closely I realized these people really scammed me and i'm pissed and can't believe sears and kmart are advertising with this company.
What I have come to find out is on the payment of 7/01/17 have to either pay 391.59 to own it because if I don't pay that amount I will never own it but get this they will still keep taking out the 59.33 and never apply it to the 391.59 so the date of my last payment on 9/01/17 that I thought I would own oh no I would still have to pay the 391.59 what kind of [censor] is this. That's not how a rent to own works. Well I will be contacting my lawsuit first thing monday morning and contacting my local news station and sears this need to be exposed this is not right. I know when you rent to own you always pay double of what it's worth but all payment made are applied to your amount on your contract. This is not even what is being done with this company. What a bunch of frauds shame on them.
mattress purchase
I purchased a mattress from Sears for $428 . This was my first time utilizing your service and I was told basically that I can just make monthly payments no interest no APR charges or anything of that sort . I made 6 payments of $71.33 which would have paid the $428 off. I call to confirm that I was finish making payments and they told me that they would continue to take payments out of my account or I can give them $235.40 to close out the account. This is a scam and one of the biggest rip-off possible. I am closing that account where they will not take another payment from me and will be seeking legal advice. I have leased vehicles in the past and I have never encountered anything like this and which I am encountering for a miserable $428. Where do you people get off asking me to pay an additional $235.40 to stop you from taking payments out of my account or as you say to close the lease account. the lease account should have closed once I finish paying the purchase price of what I purchased since there was no interest or apr's no fees whatsoever on the account. And the person I spoke with over the phone had the audacity to tell me to return the mattress after I've already paid my $428. How dare they!

auto service
My BF had me take his car (he has two jobs) to get an oil change at Sears several months ago. I was told he needed new tires and I leased through Why Not Lease it in the past and felt pretty ok about it, cost is admittedly high but what do you expect?
Anyway I told him he needed tires so us check to check folks started saving. Sears constantly (I mean...several times a day) emailed me for a couple weeks stating I can lease the tires. So I finally told him let's just do it. Get out there get the tires put on (had my preapproval for $1500 by phone) and get ready to hand over my ID swipe my debit card for the $60 down payment. So the cashier says ok now I need the card you plan to use to make payments every month. I'm like same one you swiped. Same one I used to lease before. He kept swiping it and it kept saying it can't be accepted. I'm PISSED pay the money for the tires and call Why Not Lease it. Explanation: you need a CREDIT CARD on the account to have the payments taken off of to secure the lease. I'm LIVID. I said, STUPID, don't you think if I had a CREDIT CARD I would just put the tires on IT. Rather than paying through the roof with you AND on top of the credit card interest. Funny thing is it was the same damn card (same card, not even a replacement with new expiration date, etc, no SAME CARD) I used for my FIRST LEASE.
I'll NEVER deal with them again and will never recommend them. I had good things to say after my first lease but...no more

jewelry
I purchased a $1500 ring in 2016.They take $112 out of my account every 2 weeks. When I ask why they were still taking $ out of my account after I had paid over 1500 they told me while your leasing a item the $$ you pay don't go toward the item.Only if you do a buy out..I have paid over 2000 as of today..I am on my way to change my account. They will not get another dime. Scam Artist at its best.Do not use these people.

its true what everyone is saying about this pos company
Stay away from whynotleaseit... [censor]ing bunch of repaves.
Shame on sears for letting loyal customers deal with these crooks.
Some people paid triple the amount on a item. Amount I paid in the end,
Only because I caught it early was little more than double. Done with these
Guys for good. Will advise everyone to stay clear. Obviously the ones who use
Services are people in a bind or strapped for cash. They take advantage of the
Ones who fall for their hidden fees and agendas.
Typo... RIPOFFS not repaves

over charging
This program is a scam unlike most payday loans. You can end up paying almost triple the cost of the product purchased. I would urge a strong investigation into this company practices. If you do not pay a certain amount by a certain time then you will be charged a leasing fee that is about 100% your original cost. This is bad business that takes advantage of lower income families. It's practices should be discontinued.

customer service
I purchased 3 items from K-mart using the Why not lease it program and i must say i will never use their services again! Horrible experience. I was over charged for one of the items so i returned to the store with my complaint and was told that i had to deal with Why not lease it. I called them and was on hold for 20 to 25 minutes and when they finally answered i explained my issue and everything went haywire from there. I was told to go home and bring back a bunk bed set and a 55 inch tv in order for them to fix my account. Makes no sense! Anyway i paid off the tv stand that i was originally over charge for and wanted to know if the money that was already applied to the account for the tv stand could be put towards the balance on an remaining item and they said no! It would just be put on the whole account so they are basically telling you how to spend your money. I wanted to pay off another item an was denied that option too! They are not the most business savy people and are very rude. I must say that every encounter with customer service was ridiculous! I would not recommend this company to any one. Regardless of what your financial situation is PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

lease buyout
Tried to buyout and couldn't. Called and spoke to customer service, I was told I had to make 10 payments before I could buyout. In order to buyout I would have to make 2 more payments of 68.23. After the 2 payments then the buyout would be 450.00. I cannot believe Sears would allow this to happen to there consumer. I'm all for turning a profit, but not highway robbery!

Thank you for sharing this information, but just a little to late for me. I fell behind in payments, had to file bankruptcy and included this company. Little did I know that is was not apart of Sears. This guy name Bob continues to harass me with phone calls. I asked for a break down and a statement for the account. He avoided the requested. The next step is to write them and the BBB.
I was completely ripped off by this company as well. This is almost exactly what happened to me: I went into Sears & bought a dryer with the extended warranty for a grand total of $471. After paying more than $500 to these cretins, I still owe $471 for the dryer. Sears described this program as being a rent to own company & that paying it off in the 5 month term would just save us money. Unfortunately, we found out after we signed the paperwork that this company is a COMPLETE fraud. And, their response to this complaint just proves they should NEVER be trusted. I am trying to tell as many people as possible about this unscrupulous company so that no one ever gets used the way we were. I have also put in complaints to my states Attorney General’s office because it seems like this comapny’s entire scam isn’t exactly legal. It’s a sad world we live in where bottom feeders like Why Not Lease It are allowed to profit off of hard working people just trying to get by. I hope all of their employees find themselves in a situation where they are victims of scammers just like this. Do yourselves a favor & just go to Aaron’s or Rent-A-Center where at least they’re honest about how much you will pay to OWN something.
