AARP Services Disappointing Experience with AARP

As someone who values transparency and quality service, my experience with AARP left much to be desired. I initially joined AARP with the expectation of receiving valuable benefits and support tailored to seniors. However, I soon realized that the reality fell short of my expectations. The promised discounts did not materialize as expected, and the services provided, such as insurance offerings, were not competitive in terms of pricing and value. Additionally, the organization's political affiliations and lack of responsiveness to customer concerns raised red flags for me. Overall, my interaction with AARP left me feeling misled and dissatisfied. As a consumer seeking genuine support and benefits, I would caution others to carefully evaluate their options before committing to AARP.

I had to join AARP to get the auto insurance. I was given a price that was similar to my Farmers Insurance price the year prior, but it didn't actually show limits/deductibles. So AFTER, I agreed to give it a try I found out it was like comparing "apples to oranges." Definitely lacking in comparison to my Farmers Policy, thus the reason for the big saving...

AARP Services Maxsip Telecom for ARP service provider. Free interet

My message to Maxsipconnects.com as featured in the lastest AARP Bulletin.

I have tried all day to cancel my ARP free internet subscription with these people but I am told by the representatives those persons will call me back and it has never happened. Three attempts!

I have advised them my local CSPIRE provider will handle my ARP service.

They made it easy to sign up this morning but impossible to cancel.

I keep asking to please handle my cancellation today and have advised I will connect with my AARP rep' and the FCC person I know to comlain.

Just received a call back person said cancellation could take weeks and to call them back in a few weeks.

AARP Services Free gift of Backpack cooler

On August 3,2023 I renewed Bothell my husband and my membership. His renewal gift was an insulated trunk organizer and mine was a backpack cooler. We received our gifts on August 15. The trunk organizer is fantastic . I am very disappointed in what was supposed to be a backpack cooler. What I received was not much larger than a lunch bag. I hope that I can get the gift that was advertised.

Desired outcome: To receive the gift I was promised

AARP Services Issue-hotel reservation

I booked a 4 night stay at the Hyatt Hotel in Puerto Rico through AARP travel center. I got confirmation and over $700 charged on my credit card as a prepaid. I was quoted what I would be paying at check-out by AARP but it was not the case. Upon check out on July 22, 2023, I was detained for a half hour. The front desk agent claimed that I had booked through a "3rd party" and that they had not paid, and their attempts to charge the 3rd party failed. I was charged by the hotel again.

I called AARP Travel center on July 22, once I got to the airport. A copy of the hotel receipt was required, on the spot, which I provided via email on that same day. I was told, I will get a response in 48-72 hours.

On August 7, I had not heard anything from AARP Travel Center. I called a second time. Again, they explained they would have to send the hotel an email, wait for a response and I would hear back in 48-72 hours.

To date, August 11, 2023, I have not heard anything. I took it upon myself to follow up with the hotel. They were most helpful in that they contacted the third party, "Hotel Best" and got it resolved.

Desired outcome: AARP Travel make it clear that they are booking through a third party, in this case "Hotel Best".AARP Travel keep their commitment to resolve issues in 48-72 hours as promised.

AARP Services AARP secep training program.

Hi there, I have been member with the AARP scsep since 2020, until today I was terminated because of reason that were not made clear to me, based on lies and enuindos, I have taken every assignment there have given I even participated in the zoom training and I have performed all the duties on the TAD each and every time.

The site office I was assigned to has terminated me. I thought this program was suppose to be there for senior citizen with low income looking for training, assistance with getting work to keep seniors move forward and be there until they reach the goals they want to be and that is with steady work, and be able to live, now I have nothing.

I'm have been insulted, Verbly assaulted and threaten to do bodily harm too by one of the other participants in this office just July 25th. And nothing was done about it.

I needed that training, the AARP office out here, very discriminating and very unprofessional. I am 61 years old and everything I have read in the manual is not being cared out.

They are very disrespectful and don't want to do anything for you there, now the office will not seek to get my last check from the last volunteer site I work for. There was no support there for me at all.

Desired outcome: Restore my placement back in the program.

AARP Services United healthcare

I received a letter from United Healthcare (who AARP endorses) that they would be terminating their relationship with Orlando Health. I live in St. Cloud Florida and Orlando Health has the only hospital in town. All of our doctors are with Orlando Health. The hospital and the Medical Pavilion are the best thing that has ever happened here. It appears that Orlando Health has reached out to United Healthcare so services can continue, however, United Healthcare is not interested. I believe about half of the seniors here in town have United Healthcare and all of us will be without supplemental insurance after the end of the month. Is there anything that AARP can do to prevent this from happening?

Desired outcome: I would like United Healthcare to continue their relationship with Orlando Health.

AARP Services Choice Hotel-Quality Inn Plant City

I booked 2 rooms for a total of $572.62 when we arrived at the hotel. It had a bad odor, musty mildew. We though maybe it was just the front because its close to the outside. We get to the room inside the room was a STRONG MILDEW smell. I had lung cancer and had my upper lobe removed so I have trouble breathing well with that smell we immediately went to the front desk and told him we can not stay here, that I couldn't breath. I had to use my inhaler and get out the front desk indian man started getting irate and yelling that his hotel is NON SMOKING. I said it is not a smoking smell its a mold. NO resolution because they do not refund. I thought AARP was here to protect us well they did not with this problem.

Desired outcome: Credit for $572.62

AARP Services Your offer regarding a barclays credit card!

Dears! I had to complaint the action from BARCLAYS Bank regarding my application for a credit card, as offered from AARP.

Here is my complaint”

BARCLAYS Creditcard, Application [protected] for an AARP Essential Rewards Mastercard, from 29-JUN-2023. My Credit score at all 3 Credit Bureaus is between 750 and 800.

Barclays get the information about my identity from all major credit bureaus. Even that Barclays ask my to SEND(!) by mail highly private and sensitive Documents (see attached copy of the Barclays letter) AFTER Barclays pulled my credit reports, which lowered my credit score! If BARCLAYS don't trust the information from the credit bureaus the should ask me BEFORE the ask the CR Bureaus for my scores! BARCLAYS damaged my Creditworthiness and thus damaged my reputation. This is the reason why I ask for a compensation. My attorney says I can do this!

This is a unclean method which is not acceptable. The report will be published and Barclay will be sued.

I think it is not necessary to accept this from BARCLAYS, as I have since years a credit score of 750 – 800.

I heard that BARLAYS is doing this with all application, belonging to YOUR promise of $200.- cash reward by using the card for $500.- within 3 months! They want not do so, so the make it difficult for the consumer in this way!

A big BUHHHH for AARP!

AARP Services Roofing Done Rite Perrysburge Ohio 43552

I had a appointment to have Roof Maxx coat my roof. There certified dealer is Roof Done Rite. On 5/02/23 they came out and gave me a price of $4500.00. The job was complete on 5/6/23. The job was paid for on 5/8/230. After the fact I found out from a video from Roof Maxx stating the cost is roughly 20% of the cost of a new roof. I called Roof Maxx and complained about the price I paid. I talked to Holly Smith and she said the cost should be roughly 20% of the cost of a new roof. I had two estimates for a new roof and both were $11500.00. The second estimate was from Roofing Done Rite. This was from the same person that gave me the price for the coating. 20% of $11500 is $2300. The roof was simple to coat. No surprises. I'm 82 years old and wasn't born yesterday. I contacted Roofing Done Rite and got no where. They claimed I had 2- weeks before they did the job and didn't complain. I have the paper work to show the dates I have here. Need help! Desired outcome: Some kind of refund

AARP Services AARP Travel/Expedia

I booked a trip through AARP/Expedia. A new trend has been to book trips through more than one airline. In my case to St. Louis form Jacksonville. To flight with Delta return flight with American. Delta changed my flight on the way out the door with 2 hours prior to departure. The delayed flight would not allow me to make the connecting flight from Atlanta to St. Louis. Delta acknowledged the dilemma and refunded my fare. I called American Airlines to inform them that I would not be in St. Louis to make the return flight. They stood by their no refund policy, despite messages from them to consider changing my flight with up to a $400 voucher. The point is they would have no problem filling the seat. I needed to contact AARP or Expedia. My effort to address with AARP and Expedia were met with reps I could barely understand with transfers to escalation staff resulting in dropped calls and no return calls. I subscribe to AARP to be an advocate and ensure that consumer rights are protected when they enter into contracts with vendors providing services under the the AARP banner. I am very disappointed. Others with whom I have discussed this incident are surprised by the lack of communication and support by AARP and the lack of service provided by contracted vendors. I am pondering my continued support of the organization

Desired outcome: refund

AARP Services Consumer cellular

I have been a customer of Consumer Cellular for several years. My phone was hacked on 5/20/23. I immediately reported it. I was told that They would check into it & to contact them on Monday, 5/22. I did was told that someone (not me) had bought another Sim card. They suggested that I call back on Wednesday. I did & was told that I needed another SIM card. I was directed to go to Target ; get another SIM card & then call them. I told them that there was no close Target near. They connected me with Consumer Cellular Tech. She suggested a ESIM card and that it would be emailed to me. She told me that she would walk me through it & promptly hung up on me. Fortunately my husband installed it. After five (5) days, My phone was fixed. My Consumer Cellular account was locked. I called them & was told that my account would be LOCKED for sixty (60) to ninety (90) days. I could however give them my new credit card number for payment. This is absolutely the WORST customer service I have had experienced with this company. I went with Consumer Cellular because of AARP. I am so disappointed. I have contacted them to request that unlock my account. You need to know how poorly I was treated. If they do not make this right, I will be cancelling my service. I look forward toto hearing from you.

Desired outcome: Unlock my account

AARP Services SCSEP program

I work as a Employment Specialist and was treated with no respect or dignity. The project Director found everything I did was wrong first off she brought me in her office and ask me what was my sexuality that was in August of 2022 from them on she treated me with no respect everything I did was was wrong. I was suppose to be doing just intakes while the other employment specialist was suppose to do TAD and find them a positions. The other employment Specialist would actually trat some with intimidation and humiliation which I witness on several occasions but since she was good friends with the Project Director it was ok to do so. The Project Director said she was being stern. I was accused of not remembering anything and an it was the most horrible stressful I ever worked in. The Project Director and that Employment Specialist would actually make fun of some of the site participants. I am moving on to work else where but I do believe I was being treated like that because of my sexuality and that was against the project director Christian beliefs as she herself stated on several occasions. I filed a grievance but have not heard anything back. This SCSEP program suppose to help people 55 and over find employment and not terrorize them or not treat them as inferior.

Desired outcome: I really don't think anything will be done

AARP Services AARP Expedia Travel

Call the travel center to see why my sign-on code but instead I was "assisted" with booking a flight. The caller got the spelling of my sister's name wrong and we went over it several times. My request was simple how do I book a flight online? What are the steps to book a flight online? Instead, I was talking to some who could not get my sister's name right. Spell it out to them three times. Now I know how to book my own flight but don't know if I want to. Bad customer service. See commercials all the time about AARP and what great benefits to belonging, not so sure anymore. Very disappointed. From points 1-5, one being extremely bad for the AARP Travel Center Support, you guys get a "1"

AARP Services Helth care Medicare prescription

On April 10th, we had contacted UNITED HEALTH CARE AARP MEDICARE RX- for a customer of ours at FIRSTBANK. We were on the phone with a representative for 2 hrs. Never got our problem resolved.

After the customer being upset about her bill pays going through out of her bank account but AARP is taking the money and not applying it to the correct account. We contacted customer service to prove we are making the payments and they said we can pay an amount and her policy would be reopen today. We made a payment and then they tried to renew her policy for May 1st, even though the customer has paid the dues until May. We have several confirmation numbers and spoke with several individuals.

Asal(repersentive of MEDICARE HEALTH CARE PROVISION) was very rude and nasty on the phone with our mutual customer and our bank manager while trying to insist our customer.

We work with customer service everyday and we are very astonished on how you take care of customers with customer service.

AARP Services Life Insurance

My grandfather has been paying on a life insurance policy since 1996 when he was 67 years old. His premium has been 32.70 for the duration and he has now paid over $10,000.00 for a $5,000.00 policy. How is this even legal? My mom and dad had whole life policies and once the face value of the policy was paid in full the premiums were done. Not in this case, when I called about this they said they could do a reduced premium, however it would lower the amount of the benefit and when I tried to call AARP directly, I was sent back to the first recording. How can this even be legal, he has now paid over double for this policy and he is still paying on it. Can anyone help me?

Desired outcome: I would like for my grandfather to be refunded what he has overpaid for this policy.
