I found the perfect anniversary gift for my husband on a competitor's site but they canceled it due to stock. I found a replacement on Academy Sports' website but was worried about it arriving in time. I purchased online and hoped for the best and not only was the item cheaper through Academy, but I also qualified for free shipping and it arrived sooner than projected!
All employees speak Engish
Tried to buy snow pants as Meyerland store said they had them on Westheimer and Hwy 6. Clerk in the department very nice lady searched all over. (I ride my bicycle when it is 14 degrees out and need these pants,) Oh well bought some new Khaki shorts the BCG are almost identical to the Magellan but are $5.00 more no one could explain. Cashier Byaly was very helpful told me about survey. Also bought a bike lamp I am charging now, he recommended credit card which I had but their service sucks they are an embarrassment to your company.
Wow! Great service!
A new Academy Sports store opened up not far from me. We went in and bought sones shoes for my son. He wore them about a week before there was a big hole in the toe. I took the shoes in the box, and the receipt to the customer service desk. They said I could either get a full refund, or exchange the shoes. Wow! The lady was very friendly through the whole exchange. I had read other reviews that claimed bad service from different Academy stores, so I was pleasantly surprised when I was treated so well. I will continue shopping there! Great store and service!
Pricing + Quality
I know I ordered a few days before Black Friday but every other store that carries Nike did not have hardly a sale for the holidays, this store came in clutch, I come from family who didn't grow up having cash like that and this is specifically what my baby brother wanted for his gift, what I'd consider a deal! Package came quick and didn't have a funky smell (which I've had issues with in the past) correct sizing, color, etc. Have never purchased from here before but they'll certainly be my go to for next holidays! I know a lot of people only come online to write a review to complain, but people and business need praise when they do you good too! Thank you all for everything you do, I love my stuff!
Customer service
I have not had this quality of customer service in some time. The ladies are great, helpful and non discriminatory.
I tried to order an Old County gravity fed smoker and I called as I prefer to speak to someone and not order online. I had an issue with my credit card, my fault, I had a daily limit I didn't know about. The ladies helped me work through the issue, no judgement.
My smoker was delivered damaged, a lot of cosmetic damage. It was not in a crate, it was shipped in one, damaged by the shipping company. There were a few defects like the wheels were bent and the door also. I had to cook for 200 people so I needed to use it, runs great. Academy Sports worked with me on a mutual agreement and made good on the damage. I chose to keep it and live with the cosmetic damage with the offer they made. I wish there was one in New Hampshire and I recommend them. Thank you for your outstanding customer support.

Young employees help an old man out
I had such a wonderful experience today at the academy sports in Dallas area located on Parker and the tollway I am recovering from a stroke and I've just recently started going out and shopping by myself from the get-go the greeter at the door I think his name was Andrew Andrei... Give me a genuine warm greeting then I was helped by a first day girl named Brooke who couldn't have been a sweeter and more helpful help me pick out clothes and then a manager training named danique bring me out help me with my credit card and made sure that everything was all right and the manager strolled by a couple times I didn't get his name but you could see why his employees were so happy because he seemed like such a nice guy too you cannot overestimate how important it is to accompany to have employees like these because all the money you spend to get customers into the store can all be flushed down the toilet if the employees don't go the extra step these young people did... I know it's just a little trip to a sporting goods store but you don't see that kind of caring and effort and pride in their job like this very often
Disappointing Experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor: Poor Business Model and Customer Service
Academy Sports & Outdoor is a store that I would not recommend to anyone. They have a very poor business model that caused me a lot of frustration. I ordered a baseball bat from their website, which showed that it was in stock. However, after two weeks, I called to inquire about my order and was told that it had been sold out even though it was still showing as in stock on their website. The representative assured me that the bat would be shipped in two weeks, but it never arrived.
After six weeks, I called again to ask about my order, and I was shocked when the representative told me that my order had been cancelled right after my first phone call. I never received any notice that my order had been cancelled, and the representative blamed Wilson for not sending me an email. I was confused because I had bought the bat from Academy, so why was I supposed to be looking for an email from Wilson? It was Academy's responsibility to notify me of the cancellation.
I was very disappointed with the customer service I received from Academy Sports & Outdoor. They did not take responsibility for their mistake and instead blamed someone else. I could have bought the bat from another seller at the same price, but I chose to buy from Academy because I thought they were a reputable store. I was wrong.
In conclusion, I would not recommend Academy Sports & Outdoor to anyone. They have a poor business model and terrible customer service. If you want to avoid frustration and disappointment, take your business elsewhere. I will never buy from Academy Sports & Outdoor again, and I suggest you don't either.
Disappointing Experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor: Slow Delivery and High Shipping Costs
I recently made a purchase from Academy Sports & Outdoor and I have to say, it was a bit of a letdown. I ordered a Bowflex dumbbell, which I had previously ordered from Walmart and received within two days. However, when I went back to order another one, Walmart had switched vendors and the new vendor had poor reviews. So, I decided to give Academy Sports a try since they had the dumbbell at a good price.
Unfortunately, my experience with Academy Sports was not as smooth as my experience with Walmart. I live six hours away from where the item was shipped from, and despite being promised a two-day delivery, it took five days for me to receive it. To make matters worse, Academy Sports charged me almost $61 for shipping, while Walmart shipped the same item for free.
When I called Academy Sports' customer service to express my disappointment, I spoke to a supervisor who was less than helpful. They claimed that the delivery was on time, which was not true. They did not offer to reimburse me for the shipping or offer any kind of compensation for the inconvenience.
Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor. While they may have had a good price on the item I wanted, the shipping cost and slow delivery time made it not worth it. I would not recommend buying from them and will not be making any future purchases from them.
Disappointing Experience with Schwinn Mountain Bike Purchase at Academy Sports & Outdoor
I recently purchased a Schwinn mountain bike from Academy Sports & Outdoor, and unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. Upon taking the bike for a quick spin, the back tire blew out after only 10 feet. After inspecting the bike further, I realized that the tube was the wrong size. I returned to the store and was given a 27.5 inch tube by a worker, but it too was the wrong size. Frustrated, I decided to order the correct tubes from Amazon, but when they arrived, I discovered that the lip on the tire was broken.
When I explained the situation to the staff, I was disappointed to find that they didn't seem to care. Even the so-called "manager," Ann, was unhelpful and seemed disinterested in resolving the issue. I was even considering purchasing a new tire for the bike, but unfortunately, Academy Sports & Outdoor didn't carry the necessary part.
To make matters worse, all bike shops in my area are currently closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, so I'm stuck with a $300 piece of metal that I can't even ride for the next six months. Needless to say, I won't be purchasing anything from Academy Sports & Outdoor again, and I plan on telling everyone I know to avoid the store as well. It's frustrating to spend so much money on a product that turns out to be defective, and even more frustrating when the store doesn't seem to care about their customers' satisfaction.
Poor Customer Service and Long Wait Times at Academy Sports and Outdoor Store in Florence SC
I went to Academy Sports and Outdoor store in Florence SC on November 25th. I was looking for the guns and ammo section, but before I could get there, I saw three employees. They didn't say anything to me, and I didn't feel welcome. They were stocking the shelves, and I felt like I was bothering them. I found a bottle of gun cleaner and went to the front counter. There were two people in front of me, and they had a lot of items in their cart. They wanted to buy a grill, but the cashier needed help. She called someone on the phone, but no one came to help her. The line got longer, and I counted 12 people waiting. I saw several employees walking by, but they didn't offer to open another register or help the cashier. I waited for about 10 minutes, but I got tired of waiting. I put the gun cleaner back on the shelf and left the store. This was not the first time I had a bad experience at this store. I live two hours away, but I used to stop by to see if there were any deals. I won't go back to this store again. It's clear that they don't know how to run a store.
Beware of Academy Sports & Outdoor: Deceitful Online Store with False Inventory Information
I gotta say, Academy Sports & Outdoor (academy.com) is the WORST online store I've ever dealt with. And I'm no newbie to online shopping - I buy like 90% of my non-food stuff online. But these guys? They're just plain DECEITFUL.
Here's the deal: they have this thing where they tell you if an item is "In Stock Online" and then give you a little blurb about when it'll ship. But here's the catch: if they say "Usually leaves warehouse in 1-2 business days," that means they actually have the thing in stock and it'll ship quick. But if they say "This item may ship from a different location and therefore is only eligible for ground shipping," that means they DON'T have it in stock and it's probably coming from the manufacturer.
So, of course, I ordered something with the second stock status. And guess what? The manufacturer is OUT OF STOCK with no idea when they'll have more. But Academy.com still says it's IN STOCK. And get this: they won't let me cancel the order!
I mean, come on. Any decent online store would never lie about their inventory like this. And if they did run out of something, they'd give you the option to cancel. But not Academy.com. Nope, they just leave you hanging. My order confirmation said I'd get my stuff in 3-5 business days, but now I'm stuck waiting with no end in sight. And every time my credit card authorization expires, they renew it and reduce my available credit.
So, seriously, DO NOT BUY FROM ACADEMY.COM. They're a bunch of liars and cheats. You've been warned.
Academy Sports & Outdoor: A Disappointing Experience with Poor Customer Service and Reselling Damaged Products
I went on the website for Academy Sports & Outdoor to order a chaise lounge chair that I saw was available at my local store in Thibodaux, Louisiana. I was excited to pick it up the next morning, but unfortunately, I received a call from the store saying that the chair was not available. I was disappointed and frustrated because I had already made plans to use the chair that day. I told the associate that they should not advertise products that they do not have for sale. However, about an hour later, I received another call from the store saying that they had a chair for me. It was a mystery how they suddenly found one, but I was relieved that I could finally get my hands on it.
When I got home and opened the box, I was disappointed to find that the chair was banged up, scuffed, and looked very used. I noticed a shipping label on the box with another customer's name on it. It was clear that the chair had been returned and Academy was trying to resell a damaged chair to me. I was very disappointed and felt like I had been taken advantage of. This was a shameful act by Academy.
I decided to return the chair and asked to speak to a manager. The associate told me that the manager's name was Natalie, but she was too busy to talk to me. I asked for the district manager's name and contact information, but the associate refused to provide it. I was frustrated and felt like I was not being taken seriously. I went home and called corporate to complain about my experience. They told me that the district manager's name was Michelle Allen and that they would have her contact me. However, I never heard back from her, and when I called corporate multiple times, I got nothing but excuses. I felt like Academy was full of cowards and poorly trained staff who were only interested in making a fast buck.
I have been a loyal customer of Academy for years and have spent thousands of dollars there. However, after this experience, I will no longer be shopping there. I will be telling my family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors to spend their money elsewhere. There is nothing at Academy that I cannot get somewhere else, and probably for less money. It is disappointing to see a company that I once trusted and enjoyed shopping at treat their customers so poorly.
Academy Sports + Outdoors Store 7 in Houston, TX: High Risk of COVID-19 Contact and Lack of Transparency
I recently had an experience with Academy Sports + Outdoors that left me feeling uneasy. I visited store 7 in Houston, Tx located off 290 and 1960 on June 23,2020 and was shocked to learn that six (6) employees were out of work sick due to showing symptoms of COVID-19. To make matters worse, one (1) of the six (6) sick employees is currently hospitalized.
What really bothered me was the fact that the Store Director, Yisel Ockey, was only informing her employees of one ill employee in an attempt to mask the seriousness of the situation. It was only through other co-workers that I was able to get the truth. It's disappointing to see that Academy's corporate office, located in Katy, knows of these six (6) sick employees, but is not informing its stores or customers in order to remain in business.
I urge anyone considering visiting this store to be mindful of who you are giving your money to as well as what this store could be giving you in exchange without your knowledge. It's clear that Academy Sports + Outdoors and its store directors, like Yisel, do not care for its customers' health by remaining open without informing the public of the high risk of contact to the virus within store 7, and possibly others, just to collect your money.
On another note, if you have fallen ill recently and visited this store shortly before showing symptoms, be aware this could be a likely source. If you have opted for store pick up or have ordered online, please note that the employees assigned to those tasks are apart of the six (6) sick employees.
If you absolutely need something from Academy Sports + Outdoors specifically, please go out of your way to find a different location. If you order online, please take the appropriate measures to sanitize your package and the contents inside once received, as the employees are not doing so. It's a shame that a company as large as Academy Sports + Outdoors would put its customers and employees at risk just to make a profit.
Poor Customer Service Experience at Academy Sports & Outdoor in Fairview Heights, IL
So, I called up the Academy Sports & Outdoor store in Fairview Heights, IL yesterday at around 1:11pm CST to ask about a St Louis Cardinals T-Shirt. I spoke to a young man, but I didn't catch his name or remember it if he did give it. The Cardinals had just clinched a Wild Card spot for the Playoffs and they all wore a locker room t-shirt after the game for group/team photos that said "Built for October". I wanted to get my hands on one of those shirts, so I asked the employee if they had them in stock. He replied with a little bit of attitude, "I'm looking right at them."
Excited to get my hands on the shirt, I drove 20 minutes to the store to buy a few for myself and as gifts for others. However, when I got there, I found out that they didn't have the shirt in stock. I asked to speak to the Manager, which took about 15 minutes to see her. She was kind enough to go back in the stock room and look through new inventory, but unfortunately, she came back out with no luck. She was apologetic, but with an "Oh well" attitude, like this may be standard procedure and not the first time she has had to apologize for poor customer service.
I'm disappointed that I wasted over an hour of my time because one of the employees didn't understand customer service, was too lazy to actually look, or thought it was funny to lead customers on a wild goose chase and waste their time. I gave the call time because I know they have multiple cameras in the store and can see who answered the phone at the customer service desk at 1:11 CST, and there is a view of the Cardinals merchandise from the Customer Service Desk.
I understand that employees are hard to find right now, but at least teach the ones they have how to handle customer service, especially if working the Customer Service Desk or answering the phone. This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm not sure if I'll be returning to the store anytime soon. It's a shame because I've always enjoyed shopping at Academy Sports & Outdoor, but this experience has made me question their commitment to customer service.
If you went through this experience at any other store, how would you feel? It's frustrating to waste time and effort on something that could have been easily avoided with a little bit of effort and care. I hope that Academy Sports & Outdoor takes this feedback seriously and works to improve their customer service in the future.
Academy Sports & Outdoor's "Big Deal" Sale: False Advertising and Frustration
I ain't no fancy lawyer or nothin', but I know when I'm bein' lied to. Academy Sports & Outdoor had themselves a "Big Deal" 3-day sale on the Spalding Arena Series II 60 in Glass In-Ground Basketball System, regular price $1600 for $800 from June 1 to June 3, 2021. I was excited to snag me one of them basketball systems, but when I went to the website early in the mornin', it said "Out of Stock, 0 of 1 items available for pickup" for ALL locations in KS, MO, AR & OK. I even took a screenshot of it to prove it.
But that ain't all. I went to the stores in my area, and they had a big ol' sign advertisin' the basketball system for $800, but they didn't have none in stock. When I asked the store manager about it, he said they never have the items they advertise and they don't give no rainchecks. He even said they wouldn't sell me the floor model. What kind of business is that?
I checked all the stores within 55 miles of my home, and none of 'em had the basketball system in stock. And they couldn't tell me when they were gettin' any in, let alone within the 3-day sale period. That's just plain pathetic.
I've shopped at Academy Sports before, but I don't understand what their team is thinkin'. They knew there weren't no basketball systems in stock, but they still advertised the sale and drove traffic to their stores. All they did was tick off everyone who wanted to buy one. What did they expect to gain from this other than customer complaints, frustration, inconvenience, and loss of brand loyalty?
I even wrote a letter to their CEO, Ken Hicks, two weeks ago, but nobody from their company reached out to me. Their executive complaint team stinks, and their customer service team only offered me 10% off the regular price when the basketball system is in stock. Is that their normal business practice?
I gave 'em two weeks to reach out to me, but they didn't. So now I'm postin' this review in as many places as I can to warn other buyers about how inept Academy Sports & Outdoor can be. Don't expect 'em to win no JD Power awards anytime soon.
Terrible Customer Service and Misleading Product Description - Avoid This Company
I bought this gi for my hubby for Christmas, and I was really excited about it. I had a chat with someone online to ask about the sizes since there were none available. They told me it was a one size fits all, so I thought it would be okay since my hubby is an average size. I made it clear that it was for my husband, and I ordered it. It came in quicker than I expected, which was fantastic. However, when I opened the package, I was shocked to see that it was for a small child. It might have fit a three-year-old. I wasn't mad at all, so I called customer service, figuring there was just a mix-up.
It took the customer service representative ten minutes before I asked her if she wanted my order number. She just kept repeating that it just says one size fits all, that she doesn't know what she wants from me. I finally asked for a manager. She told me she would have to call them on the manager line, and that it would be a wait. I said that it was fine. I was on hold for one hour. She would pick up every 20 minutes to make sure I still wanted to wait but phrasing it in a way that seemed like she was just seeing when I would tap and give up. I finally asked her after an hour if there was a manager in the office I could speak to. She told me that there wasn't one I could talk to and that I would have to continue waiting. I agreed.
After the hour, I found another number that I thought would connect me to someone else, so I hung up. Not a minute after she calls me back saying that she spoke to the manager and asked if I ordered the one with the yellow or white drawstrings because one of them is a child's size and the other is an adult's. I explained, again, that I had gotten the black and red one with red drawstrings, and she responded with 'so it is the one with the yellow or white drawstrings.' This went back and forth for a minute, and I asked to speak to that manager she had just spoken to, and she stated that she was trying to connect me but I hung up so I'll have a very long wait again. I told her that I'm losing my patience and that I will call back tomorrow.
I was kind and polite the entire time and didn't want to start yelling, so I called back two days later and decided I wanted a refund instead. Which they eventually gave me after not being willing to discuss the option of exchanging or explaining to me why it was a child's size when it said nothing about being a juniors or even pictured as such. I'm not normally one to complain about anything. I just wanted the right gi that can be used for my husband as this would've been perfect for him. I'm really disappointed that we won't be getting it, and I won't be doing business with this company again.
I went to post this review on their site, and they wouldn't post it. No apology or anything, just an email saying it didn't meet guidelines. That product has zero reviews on it, and now I know why. Here's the link to the product if you want to check it out: http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/century-spider-monkey-brazilian-jiu-jitsu-gi-uniform.

Disappointing Service at Academy Sports & Outdoor: Slow Clerk and Unpleasant Treatment for Gun Purchase
I recently made a purchase on Academy Sports & Outdoor's website for a handgun. When I arrived at the n garland store to pick it up, the clerk was a bit slow, but that was okay with me. After waiting for about 20 minutes into my lunch hour, he finally gave me an iPad to answer some questions. I was in a hurry and accidentally answered one of the questions wrong. The day shift was very polite about it and explained that it was my fault. They also informed me that my wife could purchase the handgun instead.
Later that day, my wife and I returned to the store around 7 pm after she had bought and paid for the handgun. However, we were told that she could not purchase it because we live at the same address. The staff treated us like criminals who were trying to illegally purchase a gun. It was a very unpleasant experience, and I don't think anyone deserves to be treated that way. As a result, I will never go to any Academy Sports for anything, not even if they had a 1 cent sale on everything in their store.
Overall, I was disappointed with the service I received at Academy Sports & Outdoor. The slow clerk and the treatment my wife and I received made for a frustrating experience. I hope that in the future, the staff at Academy Sports & Outdoor will treat their customers with more respect and understanding.
Disappointing Customer Service at Academy Sports & Outdoor: A Review
I gotta say, I ain't too impressed with Academy Sports & Outdoor lately. Used to be my go-to spot for all my outdoor gear, but now it's more like the "stay away from store." I mean, come on, the employees act like they're allergic to customers or something.
Last time I was there, I needed help moving a big ol' item I wanted to buy. I saw three employees just shootin' the breeze a few feet away, so I figured they'd be happy to lend a hand. Nope. They looked at me, then went right back to their convo like I wasn't even there. I ended up leaving empty-handed and pretty ticked off.
And just the other day, I ordered something online and got a text saying it was ready for pickup. I figured they'd have it waiting for me at customer service, but nope again. I had to wait around for someone to go find it and bring it up front.
I mean, I ain't no expert on leadership or nothin', but it seems like if the employees are actin' like they don't give a hoot about customers, that's gotta come from the top. So yeah, I'm thinkin' I might have to find a new go-to store for my outdoor needs.
Academy Sports & Outdoor Needs to Improve Their Online Ordering System
I recently had an experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor, and I have to say, it was not a pleasant one. I was excited to order a product from their website, and I went through the checkout process using PayPal. I received a transaction ID and summary through PayPal, but I never received any confirmation or communication from Academy.com via email.
To my surprise, I found out that Academy.com had cancelled my transaction without informing me. I was frustrated and confused, so I decided to call their customer support. After talking to a representative, I was escalated to a supervisor who tried to place the order for me. However, they were having issues stating that there was no inventory available.
Despite their initial claims, the supervisor was sure that there was some in stock and asked me to place the order after 6pm. I followed their instructions, but unfortunately, I received a message stating that there was no inventory available after trying to place the order.
I was disappointed with the whole experience, and I couldn't help but think that Academy.com needs to improve their checkout process. It's not fair to make the customer put in their shipping address and credit card information before checking stock availability. It's frustrating and time-consuming.
Overall, I think Academy Sports & Outdoor has a lot of work to do when it comes to their online ordering system. I hope they take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements to provide a better experience for their customers.

Incompetence
I recently purchased a gun from Academy Sports & Outdoor and was excited to pick it up after the mandatory 3 business day waiting period. However, when I arrived at the store, I was told that my order had been cancelled. I was shocked and confused because I never cancelled my order. I waited the full 3 days and was eager to take possession of my new firearm.
I explained to the staff that I never cancelled my order and that if I had, I would have requested a refund. They seemed to be confused and mixed up my name with someone else's. Unfortunately, this mistake meant that the other person's wishes were not being taken care of and I was left to deal with the consequences.
The staff informed me that I would have to go through the entire paperwork and background check process again, which took over 45 minutes the first time. I was frustrated and disappointed that I had to go through this process again, especially since it was not my fault.
I reached out to the in-house team at Academy Sports & Outdoor to inform them of the mistake, but I never received a response back. It was clear that they did not care about the inconvenience and frustration that I was experiencing.
Despite the incompetence of the staff, I will say that they did a thorough review of all paperwork and walked me to the counter to purchase the gun. However, it was concerning that they did not even check to make sure they had the right person who wanted to cancel their order.
Overall, my experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor was disappointing. I hope that they can improve their processes and ensure that mistakes like this do not happen in the future.
Positive Experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor for Smith & Wesson MP AR.22 Purchase
I recently made a purchase on academy.com for a Smith & Weston MP AR. 22 and had it shipped to my local store. When I arrived at the store, I filled out the necessary paperwork and waited for 45 minutes while they waited for another store to fax a return policy form to them. Unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock.
Despite the delay, the staff at Academy Sports & Outdoor were friendly and professional. They scanned a barcode on my email to confirm which gun was mine and had my ID the whole time. They even wished me an early happy birthday (which is in two weeks) and called me by name over the store speaker when they finally received the return policy paperwork (their printer was broken down for about 45 minutes).
Although I never saw the box or gun while I was at the store, they carried it straight to my trunk and I drove home. However, when I finally opened the box, I noticed that someone else's name was on the paperwork along with their order number. Despite this, the gun was already registered in my name.
I'm currently looking into what I need to do to rectify this situation, but overall, I had a positive experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor. The staff were friendly and helpful, and despite the delay, I was able to receive my purchase in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone looking for outdoor gear or firearms.
Disappointing Experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor: No Refund or Replacement for Defective Gun
I had a really bad experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor. I bought a 22 Ruger for my son about a month ago and we only fired about 20 to 30 rounds out of it before it stopped working. The hammer wouldn't pull back easily and the trigger pull was stiff. I took it back to Academy and they told me that it needed to be repaired and that I couldn't get a replacement or my money back because all gun sales are final. They said that I signed a piece of paper and that everyone who helped me knew that all gun sales are final, but I didn't see any signs anywhere in the store.
If I had known that all gun sales are final, especially after owning it for only 30 days and firing only 30 rounds, I wouldn't have bought it. I was really disappointed that they wouldn't give me a replacement or my money back. They told me that it would take over a month to repair my gun and in the meantime, my son was without a firearm to shoot with. I won't be doing business with Academy Sports & Outdoor again.
Poor Customer Service and Stock Availability at Academy Sports & Outdoor
I recently made an online purchase from Academy Sports & Outdoor for two girls bikes. I was happy to receive a confirmation email stating that my order was received and that the bikes were on their way. However, my excitement was short-lived as I received a cancellation notification for one of the bikes just 24 hours later. I was disappointed and confused as to why the bike was no longer available, especially since it was still available in stores. I called customer service to inquire about the issue and was told that the bike was indeed out of stock. I suggested that they take stock from a store and ship it to me, but they said it was not possible. I found this frustrating as I am sure FedEx delivers to the store.
As this was supposed to be an Easter gift, I was forced to order a 24" boys bike instead because I was told that no 24" girls bike was available. However, this was not true as they had a few listed on their website. I was disappointed that I had to settle for a boys bike when I really wanted a girls bike for my daughter.
To make matters worse, when I tried to track the first bike I ordered, the tracking number was not working. I spent several hours on the phone, emails, and texts trying to resolve the issue. Finally, I received an email from Academy Sports & Outdoor offering me a code for 10% off up to $20 on my next purchase. While I appreciate the gesture, I am not satisfied with the way this situation was handled. Customer service means a lot to me, and it seems like it means nothing to these guys.
Overall, I am disappointed with my experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor. I will not be ordering from them again in the future.
Poor Customer Service and Inaccurate Purchasing System at Academy Sports & Outdoor
I went to Academy Sports & Outdoor to buy two 2XL Columbia PFG shirts that cost over 40 dollars. Unfortunately, when I got home, I realized that the shirts didn't fit my son. I couldn't find the receipt, so I decided to go back to the store the next day to exchange the shirts for the right size. I want to make it clear that I didn't ask for a refund, I just wanted to exchange the incorrect shirts for the correct ones, with all the tags and stickers still attached.
However, when I got to the store, I was surprised to find out that I was only credited eighteen dollars for the correct shirts that I exchanged. I had to pay the rest of the amount, which was quite frustrating. I also noticed that there was a problem with the way the purchases were registered in the store's system. For example, none of the charges that I made on a single card were present in Academy's system.
I talked to some of the employees about the issue, but they were extremely rude and unhelpful. The manager was even worse, as he was dismissive and disrespectful towards me. I was very disappointed with the way I was treated, and I don't think I will be shopping at Academy again.
Overall, my experience at Academy Sports & Outdoor was not a good one. The lack of respect and professionalism that I encountered was unacceptable, and I hope that the store can improve its customer service in the future.
Disappointing Customer Service Experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor
I recently had an experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I was excited to find some items for my nieces and nephews on their website and decided to make a purchase. While checking out, I was offered a discount for accepting their credit card. I thought this was a great deal and decided to go for it. However, this turned out to be a big mistake.
After completing the checkout process, I realized that my card was not loaded to get the discount. I immediately contacted customer service for help. Unfortunately, they were unable to assist me and referred me to card services. While I appreciated the quick response time from card services, they were also unable to help me. They had no access to fix the concern I was having with the online store or even to confirm my information. This was frustrating, especially since their automated service was happy to tell me that I had an account with a zero balance and a quite hefty open to buy on it.
I believe that if Academy Sports & Outdoor wants people to buy from them, they should make things easier for the consumer. Consumers shouldn't be penalized because there are system flaws. It's important for companies to prioritize customer service and make sure that their customers are satisfied with their experience. Unfortunately, my experience with Academy Sports & Outdoor left me feeling disappointed and frustrated.
In the end, I decided to take my business elsewhere. While I appreciate the selection of items available on Academy's website, I value good customer service more. I'll be going back to another store that I know has really great customer service.
Terrible Customer Service at Academy Sports & Outdoor Store in West Monroe, Louisiana
Me and my hubby and our little 2 year old went to the Academy Sports & Outdoor store in West Monroe, Louisiana to swap some shoes that we bought just 2 days ago. We brought them in the box with the receipt and just wanted a bigger size for our son because they were a gift. Before we went to shop, I told the people at the front and they said it was all good and to go get the bigger size.
So we walked through the big store and found the size we needed. Then we stood in line and the guy told us he couldn't do exchanges very rudely (which he never mentioned before). I told him that the lady beside him said it was okay, but he just said "oh, she's not a manager" and that they had just stopped all exchanges on Monday! My problem wasn't with the new rule, but that they didn't tell us when we arrived and let us spend over an hour trying to exchange them with our little one.
The guy working customer service was very rude and didn't try to help us at all. They should fire him! This place was horrible and I will NOT return.
Nike sweatpants
Hello, my name is Gregory Schultz: gregoryschultz.[protected]@gmail.com I purchased what I thought was a good quality pair of sweatpants for $55, but it turns out that they had a defect. Brought in the purchase receipt and tried to return them, but was told that I was past the 60 day return period. Asked to at least receive store credit and was refused. Staff, including the manager, was very smug and condescending which kind of 'rubbed it in.' I have been an Academy Sports customer for over 12 years since moving to Huntsville, Alabama and have never had this kind of problem before and I might add, I have spend thousands of dollars on camping and sporting goods equipment and clothing at Academy Sports! There is no way that a $55 pair of Nike sweatpants should just start coming apart at the seam. I have only washed these maybe 6 times and used them maybe a couple dozen times since I bought them. I would appreciate it if you could make this right by at least offering store credit and returning the defective sweat pants back to Nike, who in turn, should make it right with Academy Sports. If you are unable to do this, then I will no longer be an Academy Sports customer and will instead find other sporting goods stores that stand behind their products when there is a defect. The photos I've attached show two views, close up & further back that clearly show how the stitching is coming unraveled along the seam.
Desired outcome: Store credit for the $55 defective sweat pants.
Deadly threat from employee
Today, Sunday, January 29, 2023, at approximately 4:00 p.m., I was shopping inside the store, located at 21351 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598. I was with my two sons (who are in their 20s) and my brother. We were shopping for an airsoft gun. My brother and I began browsing ammunition one isle over, while my sons continued checking out airsoft gun...

Today [protected] at 3:30pm there was only one employee behind the counter. He kept going to attend white people, after white, than other employee got there, and the first one just left as if no other people were there. There was five other customers waiting for us to get attended who behind us. Another white older person yelled out I need help here and he looked at us and just went to help him. I asked for a manager at the checkout and the girl told me it’s better if you just email him. I live 37 miles away In Sebastian Texas. My email is (perez. [protected]@yahoo.com) Louie Perez [protected]. The store is in Brownsville Texas.
Desired outcome: At least talk to all the employees. Sounds like a repeat.
Employee
I am a faithful customer of this store. I was in this store on 12/22 @ 11:07 and purchased over $90.00. It was the wrong size, so I went back to the store on 12/23 @ 15:01 I was waiting in line patiently, when another customer asked me to go to customer service, she would hold my place in line and also the gentleman behind her. I walked over to customer service and waited behind two men. I asked the associate was this the right area for customer service. When another one of your employees came next to me, in aloud tone and said that I will have to go get in line like everyone else. I went back to the two people that I was next to and explained to them that, it is and I have to get back in line. When I reached one of the registers, she proceeded to come to me again, in a very loud tone "You got here really quick", she as under the assumption that I had cut line. The lady that saved my spot said, that she saved my spot in line. I was trying to explain it to her, but with her tone and the store is packed with people, caused me to get agitated. She then called her manager over for me to tell her what happened. I did not get an apology from the manager. The employee's name was Micah or Mica. Not sure of how she spells it. But to try to embarrass someone that helps pays her salary is very unprofessional. I will not shop at Academy again. I will let people know how I was treated.
Desired outcome: This is your reputable employee that is representing your store, maybe she needs more training in customer service. Learning how to deal with customers, instead of assuming. Here is the phone number to your store, [protected]
Gun Safe
very disappointed in my purchase for the gun safe. i ve bought 4 guns with you guys and multiple items. Manager was real rude about unboxing the safe wanted to see if any scratches or dents on safe. They were a nick on top of safe amd the bottom is skuffed up bad. He said they r all like that from the fork lifts. Would like a call back from upper management. Number is [protected]
Rude manager
My fiance' and I went into the Florence Alabama store on 7/4/22 and purchased 2 pairs of shoes and a BB gun/rifle...so anyway when my fiance opened the BB gun the next day it looked as if it had already been purchased and returned before the gun itself was dusty and the clip that was in the box didnt actually even go to the BB gun it actually went to an AR-15...and just to put it out there my fiance cannot own or live anywhere there are guns present due to issues in his past but anyway we proceeded to take the gun back the day after it was purchased and explained the situation to the 2 gentlemen at the customer service desk and by the way they were super nice but they called the manager up there and told them the situation and he pretty much in not so many words called us liars. and told us that he could only exchange it even tho we had the receipt and was well within our time frame and told us that he would exchange it but this would be the only one he'd exchange that he will not do it again and then proceeded to hand the clip to my fiance that came out of the box and says here this must be yours cause it dont go in here insinuating that we changed the clips out...i was a manager for 13 years and i know that this is not how you treat a customer and he really needs to learn how to communicate with people and speak to people like they are human beings and not belittle them because i literally felt so embarrassed and insulted by him and he basically needs to learn how to be a decent human being because neither my fiance or myself were at all rude to him and we definately did not deserve to be treated that way! I will not be returning to that store and i am going to make sure to let everyone i know that shops there exactly how we were treated...you're supposed to be kind to everyone because you never know what someone is going thru just like myself i suffer from PTSD and depression from cancer and have been having a really rough week and yesterday was actually a good day up until the rude manager from the Florence Alabama store decided to rain on somebodys parade and sent me into another downhill spiral so thanks Florence Alabama manager good job...NOT!
Desired outcome: had originally asked for refund its a little big for my stepson
Parts missing
I just bought two kayaks and one has parts missing. Local Academy told me to contact the manufacture but they wont respond.
Desired outcome: I just want my other pieces. Scupper plugs and rod holder for Heritage Angler 10.
Customer needed help from floor person and got none.
Went to store in Mobile, Alabama located in the Festival Center. Looking specifically for 100% polyester large/long basketball shorts for men. Also the BCG 100% polyester t-shirts. I am a woman and wear these at the gym in the pool. I am overweight and modest and it works for me. Plus polyester is super durable in chlorinated/salt water pools. Got a buggy and went back to clothing. Only saw one older female staff and she kept her distance and did not come close enough for me to ask her anything. Each time I saw her, she was headed in a direction other than to help me. I have bad knees and am over 65. I meandered around and around and around. Always looking for a floor person to ask to assist me in my search. No luck. I was in section maybe 20 min. and most of that time I was standing still behind my buggy waiting and hoping for help. I did not think I needed to go to registers to ask for help to be sent to me. There were no floor persons to help me or anybody else. I noticed other customers were just doing their own search for merchandise without assistance. However, this lady needed help. I heard them announce that some staff was needed at registers, but they did not care about those of us in store trying to shop and find merchandise that suited them and was in their size. I was disappointed and just pushed empty buggy back up front and spoke to man monitoring the front door (long white hair). I mentioned the above to him and he offered to help me, but that was a day late and a dollar short. My knees were killing me at this point and I was not going to drag him back to the shorts. So I bought nothing and left the store, unhappy. First visit in months and it was a total fail.
Desired outcome: Have floor persons available on floor to assist customer, more specifically in the clothing. It would not hurt to approach a customer and ask if they need assistance. I would have really appreciated that.
Denial of use of merchandise card Academy issued
Greetings Academy.
I'm returning home from a horrible shopping experience at your store on NW 63rd St & NW Expressway in Oklahoma City. I spent over 36 mins on the phone with Jessica & a supervisor named Alicia (most of the time spent on the phone was on HOLD) in the store itself,, after I was told the merchandise card I was attempting to use to purchase new goods from your store, couldn't be used until the supervisor Alicia spoke with the actual person who returned the merchandise initially to have received the card! Alicia verified the funds ($233.01) were on the card but she insisted that the funds wouldn't be released until she spoke with the person who returned merchandise to an Academy store to have received the merchandise card to begin with. Well tht person was my daughter and she is at work atm, which is why I was in the store using the merchandise card. I even informed Alicia that the merchandise card had been used already to purchase a soft drink from the store that issued the merchandise card so what information could my daughter provide that I could not, after spending over 1.5 hrs in your store, trying to locate all the sales you had advertised but couldn't?! Did I mention I'm disabled so any extended amount of walking is extremely painful as well as exhausting. So there are verified funds on the card. The card was used to purchase goods at the Academy store that issued it. Spent 36 mins on the phone in the store and walked out with nothing. So my daughter returned items to your store didn't have her receipt with her at the time of the return but your store issued her the return credit to a store card and then you refuse to honor it?! You guys are so worried that people are going to shoplift from your stores well...you're stealing from me right now by refusing to honor the merchandise card you issued! My daughter isn't going to be able to provide Ms. Alicia with anymore info than what I provided
Desired outcome: I want my money back. The $233.01 & $500 gift card for all the embarrassment, headache, discrimination, time wasted in dealing with this since October 2021. They got their merchandise back. I want my money back
Customer service!
My mother bought a basketball goal for my children back on November 23, 2021. Imagine their excitement when they opened the box up on Christmas and realized they were getting a basketball goal! Well, it is now February 22, 2022 and they do not have a basketball goal since it is missing a major part for its function! I initially went to the store at the beginning of January, to the store it was purchased from (Cartersville, Ga) and told by a team member (Demitrius) that he would replace it or contact Spalding to get me the part. 2 weeks go by and I heard nothing. I called and spoke to a different associate and guaranteed again that this issue would be resolved. another week goes by and nothing. I finally call again and get (Demitrius). He again assures me that he is trying his best to take care of the issue. I remain calm as I can understand the process must be taking some time. Fast Forward to February 21, I still have not heard anything so I called the store once again. This is when I found out that Demitrius has transferred to the Kennesaw location and has not resolved my issue. I spoke to Micah and was told I could come to Cartersville the next day and finally pick up the missing piece. Guess what?! Cartersville did not have the piece. Micah was trying hard to resolve my situation, in fact I can say that Micah was the best customer service I received at Acadamy. I just got back home a received a voicemail from Acadamy Customer service saying they were sending me a link to a Warranty claim through Spalding. This is the best I can get?! The part is sitting on a display at the store and Acadamy also has this goal in stock at a different location. This is getting really hard to stomach. At this point Im not sure I will ever do business with Acadamy again! Worst Experience Ever!
Desired outcome: I just want this missing part to fix my children's goal.
