bad dental care
I had went to the Aspen dental with a toothache. They had told me I have 3 cavities and need a crown on the 4th tooth. The quote was $1800.00 for all of the work. I had asked my childrens dentist
( general dentistry) and now my dentist to tell me what he thinks. I was actually just looking for a price. He had told me there is nothing wrong with my teeth, just irritated gums. He aslo told me the one cavitie I had filled with Aspen dental would need to be redone in 3-4 months when my gum and tooth feels better. He prescibed me motrin 800 3x aday. That is a big differnce. My bill from aspen was going to be $1800.00 and the other dentist is $3.15 for motrin. How can they get away with ripping people off. We are on one income and every little bit helps-- this is rediculous! Someone needs to stop them from ripping people off. FYI -- get a second opinion or don't go to aspen dental!

poor quality worse follow up
I am having a denture issue with the Concord Office. Of course I had to pay up front. They can not get the bottom partial to fit right after several “adjustments”, which means grinding off a little parts, they remade the lower partial which still does not fit and actually caused abrasions to the inside of my mouth. I have asked to see a different dentist but every time I go to the office I see the same guy who has not been able to get it right yet.
So here I am at a month later and my teeth still do not fit right. Monday I called the Patient Satisfaction line and spoke with Julie who told that Jen, the regional director, would get back to me with in 48 hours. 48 Hours just expired so I called back and spoke with Megan who gave me Julie’s extension (1279) I called back to Julie’s extension which was not answered nor was voice mail available after 15 rings. So I called back. This time Amber told me that the regional manager would get back to me sometime today (Wednesday) and that that was the procedure I had to follow.
When I informed Amber that that was not a satisfactory answer and I did not in fact have to follow the procedure I could instead file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the New Hampshire Board of Dental Examiners she seemed unconcerned and said “well that is your right”.
I looked Up Aspen Dentals record with the Better Business Bureau. They have a C- rating. That should tell you everything you need to know about Aspen Dentals supposed commitment to customer satisfaction.
In my personal opinion if you have a choice, use a different provider. If you have used Aspen Dental and are not happy file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the New Hampshire Board ff Dental Examiners the addresses are available on the web.
If my insurance had any other participating providers in the sate I would run away from this company. There commitment is apparently to something other than customer satisfaction.
Allie at Aspen Dental will probably post a comment that goes something like
"Aspen Dental is committed to providing all patients with exceptional service and care. We sincerely apologize if your visit to our office was anything less. We want to do everything we can to address your concerns." Don't be fooled I've been that route and you see where I am.
Of course in the off chance that someone actually dose try and resolve this I will post a follow up in the comments section. Stay tuned but don't hold your breath.
Surprise, surprise Jen, the regional manager did get back to me and actually did seem concerned that the issue be worked out. She said she will follow up with me if needed after my appointment this afternoon. She did also apologized for the delay in following up.
Some confidence in Aspen has been restored. Final judgment will be with held until I get a final answer this afternoon.
Apparently the way to get Aspen to pay attention to your customer service needs is by posting to complaintsboard.com
Well, I called the patient satisfaction hotline back to find out why I have not been contacted by the regional manager and was told that a message would be forwarded to the regional manager. When I asked how that would be different from the previous attempt I was told that I could expect a call by the end of today.
When I asked about the overcharge I was informed that I had requested an upgraded denture that was not covered by my insurance. Let me tell you I never consented to any “upgrade” I was not given any options I was just told that this is what would happen. I need to look further into what was billed since all I have are procedure codes that I do not know how to interpret. Oh yes, there was no explanation of the $9.00 additional charge I supposedly owe though the representative did say I was in fact due a $6.00 refund.
Back to the service issue: I asked that my issues be forwarded to the regional manager’s supervisor and was again told that the best the representative could do is forward the issue to the regional manager. When I again explained that Jen, the regional manager had already ignored the issue for the required two days I was told there was still no way of going any further. I asked for the representative’s supervisor and was told that was Julie, the first person I spoke to back on Monday. I asked for Julie’s supervisor and was told that was Ron, there was no way I could contact Ron directly and in any case he would not be in until 10:00. I reiterated that providing the same answer that had not worked satisfactorily in the past was not the path to 100% patient satisfaction. The representatives response was that I was going in circles and the call was going no where. I than asked how we could try another answer that had not been tried unsuccessfully in the past to stop going in circles and I was told the call would be terminated. I asked again and was eventually told to have a nice day and of course the call was disconnected.
So I called back. As soon as the call was answered I was informed that hanging up on me and not providing acceptable answers would make the issue go away. As it turned out I was somehow connected with Julie, though I don’t think she was the one who initially answered the call. I was informed that the regional manager had asked the office manager to contact me and that was the best I was going to get. When I indicated that I was not satisfied with the answers I was getting Julie got noticeably angry, maybe tense is a better term, and raised her voice. She told me again I had the best answer I was going to get.
When I asked Julie if she was familiar with this site she said she was very familiar with it. I suggested that she search for this post and informed her that her name would be mentioned in my update. Julie’s response was to tell me to make sure I use her full name she provided a last name (and spelling) of DeLair, hopefully I got it correct.
Anyway Julie continued to inform me in her raised voice that I had no other avenue to resolve my dissatisfaction. Get this, she specifically said, though I am paraphrasing not quoting, continuing to call the patient satisfaction line would not get me any closer to a satisfactory result. That speaks volumes about the commitment to patient satisfaction Aspen Dental has. Not that I’m surprised.
Well Wednesday came and went and imagine my surprise that I was NOT contacted by Jen, the Regional Director. In all fairness I was contacted by someone in the local office and I do have yet another appointment today.
There is however another development. In discussion this issue with my wife last night I found out that Aspen Dental of Concord has charged me a little less than $600.00 more than the contracted rate allowed by the insurance company. In addition to that even though the billing representative at the office could not explain the discrepancy my wife was told we still owe an additional $9.00. Of course they refuse to provide an itemized list of charges. Just one more issue to discuss during my appointment with the Attorney General next week.

horrible fitting dentures
I went to Aspen dental for fitting of complete dentures. I was fitted with temps that cut my mouth up so much it took me 6 months to be able to wear them without using benzodent for the pain. I was told over and over that the finished product would make it worth while. I was then fitted for the permanents which I went for 2 fittings. The finished product was so horrifying I left in tears. I was told it would take a while to get used to them and I could come back for adjustments. I went back 8 times for the so called adjustmants and in the interem I had so many sores in my mouth it was a bloody mess. I actually got an infection during the so called adjustments.
The teeth were so big I finally told them enough. I want the right size teeth not the donkey teeth you have nade me. I was fitted again only for the tops which came out worse than the first ones. I am so upset, feeling like I did something wrong. I paid a lot of money, trusted the Dentists to help me and I now have teeth that sit in a cup under the sink.I dont want to go to Court but I am left without a choice.

I am going thru the same thing you are experiencing. But the guy I went to yesterday told me I was coming in way too often, and o give these sore spots a couple weeks to see if they can work themselves out. My mouth hurts so bad I can barely eat anything soft! And I dont wear these dentures unless I am going out in public, and I dont dare try to eat with them. The only thing I want is a REFUND. I am sure a NORMAL dentist can make us a set of dentures that will fit, look good, and be painless. I am not wasting anymore of my time going back to these people, I am getting to another dentist before there is irreversible damage done that might make it impossible to even have dentures. Good luck to you and lets keep each other informed - could help in the long run.

There are so many complaints out here in regards to this company, Oh boy do I have one, my son had really bad teeth, and no insurance, my husband and I paid for what needed to be done, which was basically to pull out all of his teeth Except for 5 or so on the bottom Because Aspen said it would be better to keep these for an easier fit, well, soon after the temporary dentures were placed he got such an infection, not once but 3 times, he had to go to the ER and get IV's so he wouldn't die! He has Asbergers so this is why the ball was in our court.
Well these temporary dentures are just that, cheap and made of God knows what and he was supposed to get the permanent ones, we made an appointment and they said we still owed them money, now this is After we shelled out SEVEN THOUSAND dollars..Yes 7 Grand! So now he has no teeth, and we’re out that much money.. Why can't we all get together and file a class action suit against them, a lawyer Must be interested somewhere! Please
I will put the word out to Everyone on my FB page and any other page I know of what type of business Aspen Dental is..Your company DIDN'T put a Smile on My Face..thats for sure. And Everytime I see my son smile, the so called "smile" he got from Aspen Dental I will have Nothing but contempt for Aspen Dental.Everyone that works for them down to the office cleaners should be Ashamed for the Rip Off company they work for, you have No sympaty Or empathy for your customers !

rip off!!!
I went to Aspen Dental a few weeks ago for a "Free" cleaning. All of the sudden I needed 4 cavities filled, 2 root canals, and I was told I was using the wrong toothpaste and toothbrush. They wanted me to take a loan out for $4, 500.00 ?!?! What!
My appointment lasted over 2 hours due to everyone trying to sell me something! Tests, mouth guards, toothpaste, etc.
I knew my teeth were not that bad so I went to another dentist. I did have 1 cavity that's it! It cost me $70.00.
I will never go back to that horrible rip off Aspen Dental again! I have told everyone I know never to go there for any reason!

YOU'RE CRAZY, THEY DON'T GIVE FREE CLEANINGS!
billing and extra services
I went to Aspen last year because I had some teeth that had been crowned and had broken under the crown. Of course I had to have x-rays and cleaning before they would even look at me. They automatically gave me a electric toothbrush and floride mouthwash. I had told them that all I wanted was the teeth pulled. They automatically totaled everything - never gave me an itemized bill - and after my insurances portion told me that it would be over $3000 but signed me up immediately for carecredit which I am still paying off! But they promised that this would be everything. I have TMJ so had to see the oral surgeon and I needed to get the teeth done. I had told them that I didn't want a partial to replace the teeth but after I had signed up for the carecredit they told me that was included - my fault I didn't make them redo it! They told me they would call me with the oral surgeon appointment because they didn't have his schedule available. Carecredit was already taking their payment and I had to call 2x to finally get the appointment scheduled - took the time off work etc only to have them call that week and say they had to reschedule it later (went in August - took until January to get the teeth pulled). When I went back for my check up after the extraction I was told I was all done - I had to remind them that they needed to do the partial plate. At each of the appointments to get the partial etc I was told that I didn't need to see the finance person because I was all set with my carecredit. Suddenly I started getting statements from them but didn't pay much attention because I thought it was just the amount remaining on the carecredit - the office tells me I am all set. Now I have a collection agency call me telling me that I owe another $1154 !

Went to this location in NH. Very Poor lead Dentist - drilled into wrong tooth. Bad customer support after dentist made mistake from the staff - refused to give me the original x-rays when they knew I wasn't going to return. Received a bill from this office after they said I didn't have to pay for the dentist mistake. 7 months later I had a tooth develop decay because they removed sanded or "cleaned" stains off which also removed the protective layer on the tooth. 1 year later I have had 2 teeth completely chip off because it developed decay so quickly due to the removal of the protective layer on my teeth. I had absolutely nothing wrong with these teeth.
Originally, when the dentist inspected my teeth, he spent probably a total of 2 minutes - if that - calling out to his assistant dental codes. I optioned to take things slowly before getting my wisdom tooth pulled. An assistant went through with the stages of cleaning. All which was proportionately payed by myself, or my insurance carrier per session. We finally set up the appointment to have my cavities repaired. During the session the dentist didn't start well. Instead of gently edging in with the needle, he darted in and injected me once which sent me on edge. Then he had to do a total of 5 - 6 injections in my mouth which I thought at the time was odd, and meanwhile, he kept asking me if it was painful. Finally, he started drilling, because my mouth was so numb it took me a little while to realize that he was on the top of my mouth and not the bottom. He drilled into the wrong tooth. I told to "stop" and told him " i don't have cavities on any of my front teeth, nor my top teeth.". He quickly asserted trying to convince otherwise by saying, "Well, that is the teeth we agreed on." I never even spoke with this dentist. I spoke with the lady who cleaned my teeth. All the dentist did was come in and do a pressure test on my teeth, calling out numbers to his assistant. Anyhow, he carelessly filled in the tooth he damaged - which I had to pay out of pocket to another dentist to go back and pull the filling a place another in its place. Then to top it off. My knew dentist wanted to borrow the original x-rays which he said I could return to Aspen. He said there are things you cannot see on just the copies. Upon request Aspen refused to give them to me. I told them, I have rights to them, my insurance paid for them. They sarcastically said, "No, your insurance paid to have our dental assistant take the x-rays." When I asked my insurance company if they would pay for another set they said they only pay for one every so many years. I left there without that dentist at Aspen pulling my wisdom tooth. However, after everything settled and my dental work was taken care of by other facilities, I got a bill from the corporate office for the tooth the dentist messed up. I then contacted this office and explained to them what the dentist did, and was not too happy about seeing this bill. Now, I have holes in my teeth where they sanding clean some coffee stains, also taking the top protective layer off my teeth. After they cleaned the areas they looked crisp white but had a different texture than the normal gloss coating. Nearly a year later, the area has darkened just a bit and a chunk of my tooth just pulled right out. This has happened on two of my teeth. Which I had no problem with prior. Overall, my experience at this place was miserable, and I am still paying for it.

Aspen Dental is a Scam that preys upon the less knowledgeable and the anxious. They had me in just to look at me for a cleaning. This never happened before. The doctor said the hygienist wouldn't be available for a month so I waited. When I saw her a month later she did a gum examination and was rather pushy in that she wasn't sure If I'd get a cleaning today. They decided I needed a root scaling and they refused a cleaning. They sent me up front to be handed a bill for about 2100.00, 1350.00 out of pocket and a third appointment. I went to a dentist once who performed a cleaning the first day I went in and suggested a scaling next visit. When I told Aspen that they said they could lose their license performing just a cleaning when I needed a scaling. Aspen is equivalent to a Dental [censored]house. Stay away from here!
Terrible customer service! X-ray tech did not follow procedure--never looked at paperwork (I hadn't even filled out the potentially pregnant section), insisted that I keep my earrings on during the exam. And overall, it was a very DIRTY PLACE! UNSANITARY! Nasty, dingy carpet, smudges all over the walls and linoleum. Everything seemed dirty--including the dental reclining chairs. A receptionist's children were running loose and causing mayhem. Dirty restroom. Dental tools were out in the open of a walkway, rather than under UV lights. The employees were yelling to one another about entirely non-related subjects. Poor customer service. I will not go there again!
This company is like a used car dealer. They raped my insurance, gave me quotes that were fake and under the amount I was billed for and tried to ram services up my bumm without my con.sent. I was charged 700.00 for a cleaning for half of my mouth, I was told the cleaning for the other half would also be an additional 700.00. My teeth were not bad since I just had a cleaning a year before. I was also given an open bottle of mouthwash that I found when I got home and was told I couldn't return it since it was open (35.00). They even tried to give me a 1.00 battery tooth brush with free life time .25 cent batteries for 235.00. I told them to stick it. When they were done raping the insurance c, ompany and sent me a bill that was 400.oo above the quote that was my part I told them "See Ya Later Rip Offs" when I told them we used up our insurance they would not allow me come back until the new year started. I then lost my job and was told they are having computer problems and they would call me back in the next day to get me in for some work. Well they never called back and when I called them they made up hokey reasons as to why I couldn't come in. I met one of the employees social and they told me I couldn.t come back u.less I gave them cash.. or took their credit service. Funny how the written quote I got was not honnored and they doubled the billing and then tried to extort more out of me. Warning to anyone.. don't use these rip offs they will drain every penny you have.
i just got my dental insurance and went for a cleaning knowing i needed some fillings. i read the reviews and i took all the money and credit cards out of my wallett. they gave me flouride without asking and then charged me for it because my insurance doesn't cover it. i opened my wallett and showed her i had no money she said i can just pay for it later. the reciptionist said they would call me with an estimate to have my teeth fixed..never did. i called them 4 times and never heard back. they set up my next cleaning apt. but i never went because after 6 months they still wouldn't give me an estimate. i think it's becasuse they saw my empty wallet. i found a new dentists and i trust him 100% i don't have to hide my money.
had the same exact thing happen to both me and my husband, went in for dental appoint, said I need
a ton of work down, said this is the total, and signed both of us up for the carecredit, charging the total amount
mind you it went well over there estimate and we also had dental insurance, and they paid most of the bill
got 2 bills, 1 for 2, 000 and 1 for 3, 000. call them to have them fix it. said they would take care of it
well lets say 1 was taken care of from 2, 000 to 500, big difference, but mine, just notice still being charged 3, 000
all hell is going to happen. as soon as I'm done typing this, I will be calling them.
I went there and felt like all I was, was a wallet ripe for the picking!
I went for a tooth that had gone bad and broken as well (interesting to see even the quote was approximately the same!). They did an exam and x-rays (I do like the actual dentist she should open her own practice) but after the exam I was taken to the "consultation" office where the consultant refused to talk about any of the denture options except the most expensive one.
I was told this person no longer works there, but after seeing a posting this current I am very hesitant on returning.
I have since gone back and talked to them. Though I am glad the other person is no longer there I am still leary just for the fact that through searching Google it seems to be a systemic problem through the Aspen Dental chain of offices.
If I do wind up going with them for my dental work I would hope they realize some of us don't quietly take it... we respond LOUDLY...
When I started with my employer I was empressed with what was told to me during training. "Treat the customer as you would like to be treated." I do, and I expect to be treated the same.

I dont know yet...
So far in my quest for better oral health I have been to Aspen Dental in Augusta Maine three times now. Once for a check up, and twice for four fillings. I am going for my fifth this afternoon. So far they been great to deal with but recently my four fillings (two next to each other on top and two next to each other on bottom, same side) are beginning to hurt the bottom the most. Every once in awhile I can feel gritty-ness when I chew gum and believe that my fillings are coming undone. Arent these supposed to last forever? Also my top two fillings are good and dont hurt, but the dentist made a "bridge" between my teeth and cant floss in between my teeth. I have called and told them about this and will be seeing a dentist tonite when they do my fifth filling. I know I have bad teeth but a filling shouldnt hurt to long after procedure... just wanted to get everyones opinion on this especially before I go and get my four wisdom teeth out by them. Thanks everyone!
I will give you all an update when I get home tonite. Being a big guy when I tell them to do something and get it done, they better do it. Im not in to letting anyone or any company roll over me.

first visit
I can't understand with so many complaints this company is still in business. About 6 months ago I decide to change dentist because Aspen is closer in location. Went for the initial visit and they told me I needed 2 root canals and teeth pulled at the sum of $3000.00 dollars ! I have never had any trouble with my teeth. I decided to stay with the dentist I have and just make the longer drive. When I told him about this and showed him the estimate, he assured me that none of that work was needed. I also have a friend who did the same went for a consultation and was told similar but her estimate was $5000.00. ! Again absolutely nothing needed her teeeth are fine so, , , beware they are ripping off the public and I really want to know how they can do this legally?
Allie, Aspen Dental is a scam.. I stated the facts .. I didn't need any root canals, my teeth are fine! I'm not calling you customer satisfaction ### hotline.. nice try ! What a generic statement. Aspen is ripping off people, , I have worked in the customer service field for most of my life and I never sell or suggest anything to people that isn't right. Always good for business?... maybe not but at least I can sleep at night .. can you? You should consider other employment.. hopefully Aspen will go under if enough complaints are heard and people stop going.

I've been to Aspen Dental four times in the last year. The first time they 'lost' my appointment and said I'd have to reschedule... even though I had my appointment card with me. Despite my complaints, I rescheduled.
Second time I went they did only my x-rays and then told me I needed to schedule a cleaning -separately-... who does that?
Third time I went I had to wait just over an hour over my appointment time to finally get in for my cleaning. The cleaning went well; no complaints there. The cost was reasonable ($70) and I was happy besides the wait.
Fourth time I went, today (May 13, 6 months later), I waited over an hour AGAIN... my appointment was at 4. I checked in at 3:50 and sat for nearly an hour. Finally, i went to the counter to ask how much longer it would be and 10 minutes or so later I was taken in. Keep in mind they close at 5 so I was fearing a rush job cleaning. For some reason they INSISTED that I have x-rays done AGAIN (just had them done 6 months ag0). I had to actually refuse before they dropped the idea. When I got to the chair I sat for another 10 minutes. Finally the hygienist came in and used the pick to clean between my teeth for about 10 minutes... picking too far in and making me bleed everywhere. She kept apologizing for it so I figure it wasn't supposed to happen. Then she said I'd have to come back at a later date for the polishing and everything else as my gums were bleeding! I imagine it was more the fact that it was now 5:20... they were closed. I went to pay and was greeted with a $160 bill! $160 to scrape my teeth for literally 10 minutes. I asked if this was including my near future visit to finish my cleaning and I was told no.
Needless to say I'm done with Aspen Dental... I've never had a good experience and their pricing is VERY shady...

I just spent 3 hrs at the Wausau, WI office & now I am worried. I did all my x-rays, exam & then off to the finance office. I knew I was getting full dentures. I chose the most expensive due to my age & the fact that they are guaranteed for 7 years vs a cheaper model. I was rather shocked when I got the bill for today (the exam & xrays were FREE)...was $2690. I didn't get anything itemized but intend to call them tomorrow & get an itemized list. If the exam & the xrays were free & the dentures are $1599 (less at $600 coupon) was is the other $1691 for? I did have impressions done but they can't possibly cost $1691! Maybe it is the follow up appt or the "healing" dentures. The follow up appt will be the day after I get my extractions (at an oral surgeon) & then 6 mos later I will get permanent dentures. I definitely need an itemized bill. I don't know that my insurance will just send me a check like they said. Now I wish I would have seen this before I spent all this money & hopefully the dentures will fit (I have an extremely small mouth)...

fraudulent billing/unskilled office staff
BEWARE these are the worst dental providers out there! Fraud Alert-billed me and my insurance company for services/products that I did not order and when I demanded a refund, it was refused. I was told I HAD to purchase said product though I did not request it. OFFICE STAFF IS UNSKILLED, LIARS AND CHEATS. Had a dental appointment on 5/11/09 and office staff left in the middle of a proceedure. Find a PRIVATE PRACTICE DENTIST IN EVANSVILLE AND STAY AWAY FROM ASPEN DENTAL.

I agree. The office manager told me that my insurance was only 60/40 and it is actually 80/20. The truth was that they were over charging. They would not let me see an itemized statement of the charges, she only provided me with the treatment plan. Very rude. Hateful. Unprofessional.
It is unbelievable the amount of complaints this company has. I was one of there "office managers" or should I say high pressure salesperson. Everything, every complainant says I agree with. This business is not about providing quality dentistry. It is about making money off the under served dental community. It is disgraceful. Please spread the word before more people lose there hard earned money and there TEETH!

All I have to say about aspen dental is, whats a rip off! No joke. You know, you except that you pay someone to o a good job, right? No with them. My complaints is regarding aspen dental, the one in latham, ny 12110. I was there this week and the doctor and the insurance lady were extremely rude. Even though I had an appointment, the doctor rushed with me...

I was seen once and was already billed for a loan that the hooked me up with and I had nothing done and now the loan company had aready paid them in one day from seeing them and I cancelled my appointment because I wanted to get a second opinion because the amout the were seeking was way over what I was told from my sister that I should pay and to go see her dentist. They already billed me for 5820.35 and I haven't even had one tooth removed. I talked to the loan company and they said I had to dispute it because they paid them and now I have a bill for 244.00 a month because aspen was already paid. I really hope aspen gives the money back, shoot what if I died tomorrow and never had the procedure done, then what?
VERY UPSET, DON'T WANT TO PAY A LOAN COMPANY BEFORE I WAS SEEN AT THE CLINIC AND HAD ANY WORK DONE BESIDES I HAVE DENTAL INSURANCE WHICH SHOULD COVER WHAT WAS DONE THE ONLY TIME I SEEN THEM AND THE LOAN COMPANY ALREADY PAID THEM IN ONE DAY, HOW DO YOU THINK MY ATTITUDE IS?
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
This loan company always does this. I think they give incentives to dentists. Even when I tell the dentist I'm paying my copay in CASH they try to get me to go with that ridiculous care credit. "It's no interest for 18 months". Guess what there dental people, I don't care, I pay cash or I don't get it fixed. But they push it on you anyways! Glad I threw the brochure away! Heck if you'd have used a visa or mastercard they'd have reversed the charges.
Contact your attorney general. Search google and see all the complaints aspen dental has against them! Find a lawyer who would sue and take a percentage if they win. If I were a lawyer I'd be all over this. Heck there may be a law suit for all I know. If there isn't it won't be long before there is.
The only good reviews from this monkey outfit is from their employees. They want to keep their jobs. I am sure they get a percentage of what the services cost. They work off of commission and so do the dentists, that's why they try to make it expensive, bill you and then get the money they got from you also from your insurance.
These people aren't dentists, they are scam artists! Real dentists wouldn't want to have this type of reputation. I mean seriously if you saw a new dentist in town and knew they'd work at Aspen Dental in the past, would you go to their practise? Even if you lived in the back woods and they were the only dentist in 50 miles? I think not!
shady pratice
I recently got dental insurance and aspen was on tye preferred provider list and was just down the street so I decided to go there. I went in for x-rays and they examined my teeth. They told me I needed peridontal cleaning and a small cavity that would need filling. They immediately worked up a plan and gave me an estimate for what I would pay and the insurance portion. I was told all the work would be done on the next visit then a 3 month check up after that. My estimated portion was $800 and ins. would pay $1, 114. That seemed like a lot and I didn't have the money so I did the care credit card thing and paid the 800 right then. At my appointment they didn't even do my filling like the office manager told me they would they just cleaned my teeth and gave put these antibiotic things between my gums and teeth. They gave me this tooth brush that costs like $5 at walmart and a flouride and mouth rinse to use. I got the bill a few weeks later and was shocked. That toothbrush cost $130 and there were numerous other things that insurance wouldn't cover like I was told by the dental office. I called my insurance company and they said there were charges on my bill taht were entered incorrectly and things that they didn't even know what they were! My bill showed that I still owed $600. That estimate was way off. I'm on my third bill because it says ins. is still pending items. It's now down to $350 and I've never even gotten my filling and already paid $800. The actual bill was less than the estimate but I still paid the 800 and now more. If the bill ended up being less shouldn't I pay less, not more! I'm canceling my follow up and going elsewhere. Her estimate was so far off. I never would have went there if I knew it would be so much more. I can't afford it!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
This is their normal practice. Do a search on google under aspen dental complaint! Your lucky they didn't pull out all your teeth and charge you for dentures that didn't fit!
Talk to your attorney general. Get a lawyer and sue them. There are so many complaints against them I can't believe they are still in business.
Contact class action lawsuits on the internet! These lawyers love going against shady businesses and they win.
No I'm not a lawyer, just a very UPSET aspen dental client. They don't have dentists, they have sales people working there pretending to be dentists!
waiting room problems
On April 27, 2009 my prescheduled appointment was for 3:30 PM. My arrival and sign in was at 3:15 PM. I sat and waited until 5:50 PM. At that point one of the ladies from behind the desk walked out front and locked the door. So I went up to the desk and asked if they were closing soon and the receptionist said that at 6 they were closing. I asked if they were going to give me my dentures today and they asked if I had an appointment. I showed them my name on the sign in sheet and the 10 or so who signed in after me and had been taken care of already. The first reaction was accusing me of not saying something sooner.
A little history at this point. This was my final visit to try my dentures. On my initial visit as a new patient, I had asked the receptionist after filling out all of my paperwork and showing my insurance card and waiting for half an hour if she had an idea how long it would be until my appointment. I was told to "just sit down and wait." 20 minutes after that the dentist saw me for the first time. Before leaving my dentures and the next two visits had to be paid in full. The second visit was a little over an hour wait. My wife was with me on the first two visits and I asked her if I should file a formal complaint. She talked me out of doing that both times.
To me it is obvious that the patient is not the priority in the Lancaster, Pa. office. Everyone's time is valuable to them. If Telling my story helps one person make the correct decision about not using Aspen Dental then my wait(s) were well worth it.

Aspen Dental Saginaw MI,
As the only primary dental provider in the area (next one being 40 miles away) ;I am mandated to see them by my dental provider..The office staff is not at all professional, instead of my repeated requests to see them early they gave me an appointment after 25 days and again postponed that for seven days .I am in excruciating dental pain and have no idea but to wait for my appointment to come up...

poor service/rude clerical personnel
In December 2008 I went to Aspen Dental for an exam because I had a cracked Wisdom Tooth and two others that needed to be extracted. At the time, I explained that I would be submitting a request to a charitable organization to cover the costs. When I called to make an appointment, they refused to make the appointment unless I paid for the work in advance in full.
I had to wait several months for approval of the payment and until the check had arrived before I could make an appointment.
I finally had my appointment and discovered that when I went they had not gotten the approval of my cardiologist to do the procedure. The folks in the North Hills Office were very kind and cooperative and had to do all the work that the Butler Office had neglected to do. On top of that, the Oral Surgeon was so rough on my mouth that I had bruising from the corners of my mouth down over my chin and neck for more than a week. At this point, a week later, I am still having pain. They did not do the IV sedation which was quoted and I am still waiting for the refund of $319.00 they owe me.

rude customer service/ price changes
I just left the Aspen Dental office in Auburn NY Fingerlakes Office about an hour ago. I am still mad as you know what! I had my 4th visit there. The first one they kept me waiting an hour to get into see the dentist. I went back thinking okay, emergencies happen... the second visit went well talked alittle about the options available. The third visit was to go over my options in detail and financing. I spoke to a very nice man named Sean. We got everything ironed out. Today was suppose to be an appointment for impressions. Sitting waiting to be called, the new office manager called me back with some questions. She said she wasn't sure what I was having done.
Okay so we go thru it one more time. I told her what I spoke to Sean about and immediately she got rude. saying that she was the office manager and Sean was no longer there. Okay... then she excused herself and argued with a customer at the counter. She came back and worked on the computer for a minute, said it would be 1200+ and how would i like to pay for that. ummm Hold up, we had worked that out. What changes did you make to the treatment plan? her response, I just told you. No you didn't. I asked for clarification and she continued to be rude.
So (trying hard to hold my temper) I explained to her that Sean and I had worked out the details of payment and it wasn't suppose to be that high. She said did you bring a voided check? Yeah... Give it to me and well get this going. Umm no. Not until I'm clear on what you are doing and the pricing. She said, "I'm the office manager here and I've been with Aspen for a year. I know what I'm doing." So I break and say "Who the hell cares? I've been a 'patient' here for 2 months and it's my mouth. I want to know what you are doing." She replies with "are you going to do this or not?" No. as a matter of fact, I want the district number and i'm filing a complaint because you are so rude. She replies that her boss was right next to her and I can file a complaint with her. No... if she sat there and listened to how you treated me and didn't say anything then I am going to report her too.
This is crazy! I will never go back there and will make dayum sure I file the complaint against the new office manager Melanie Constable and NOT recommend this company to anyone!

on January 20th 2012 i went to aspen dental with a sever toothache that had been bothering me for the previous week with no let up. i didnt have a lot of money to pay up front for a simple extraction on a decayed and half broken tooth, so, my wife found care credit / aspen dental that would allow us to make small payments that would work out perfectly.
so i go in for my first appointment and to my surprise, they take about 30 x-rays of all my teeth before i get to see a dentist.
after x-rays they put me in the dental chair and the dentist who doesnt even tell me his name starts probing around inside my mouth talking about how bad my teeth are and that Im a candidate for full dentures on top and a lower partial. so i think OK i know Ive neglected my teeth for a long time cause i couldnt afford to see a dentist regularly. before i know it my dentist is talking out loud to someone in street clothes standing behind me about the condition of my teeth and about the whole denture thing. turns out he was talking to the office manager Matt . Matt says for me to get out of the dentist chair and follow him into his office where he proceeds to sell me the most expensive set of dentures they have and also gets care credit to bump up my line of credit to the tune of nearly $8, 000 dollars which includes oral surgery, anesthesia, temporary dentures, permanent dentures and follow up fittings and adjustments all for around $180 a month. minutes later he sent me back to the room with the original dentist for an impression top/bottom for my temporary dentures . he sticks this metal mouth piece into my upper with this thick goop and has me bite down. also does the same for the lower even though i was still in agony with my toothache on the bottom. so after the impression they sent me home without pulling my tooth or even a script for a pain medication and made an appointment for oral surgery to take place one week later on January 27th 2012.. i go a week in pain from the bad toothache and arrive on time and nervous about saying good bye to all but 8 of my teeth. i am brought into the oral surgery room and the oral surgeon only shakes my hand and says hello. that was the full extent of our conversation. also 2 female assistants are present and they said absolutely nothing to me. the surgeon puts an I V into my arm and shoots me up with feel good drugs and holds my mouth open wide with some sort of blocks and shoots my gums with Novocaine to numb me up. in less than an hour he yanks out all the bad teeth and puts in my temporary dentures along with some gauze and out the door i go for home this time with a script for hydrocodone and penicillin . so here i am at home, in pain, oozing blood all over the place but still hopeful that soon Ill have a great smile for the first time that i can remember. the first day after surgery i noticed that my lower lip and my chin were totally still numb. i figured it was the Novocaine that had not worn off yet. when Monday the 30th of January 2012, the day of my first follow up at aspen dental, i was still totally numb and told the dentist who had first seen me that i was numb he said it would be a temporary thing and not to worry that it should get better by it self in a few weeks to several months. he never told me why i was numb or offered any sympathy at all. when i got home i searched on line and found that the oral surgeon had most likely severed my Inferior Alveolar Nerve while extracting my Wisdom tooth that was impacted. to make matters worse, they never told me about the risk of nerve damage or any other risk factors prior to, during or after surgery. I did sign a consent form on the day they financed my teeth and the office manager Matt never told me of any risks. the first dentist that told me about being a denture candidate never told me about the risk and obviously the oral surgeon didnt say nearly anything to me on the day of surgery and i never even saw for the first time until the day of surgery. so why did Matt have me sign consent on 1/20/12 saying the doctor explained all the risk factors to me when i had not even meet the doctor until 1/27/12 a week after i signed consent? now as i sit here typing away mad at myself mad at aspen dental with Ill fitting temporary teeth that make me feel trapped in them i cant eat and have lost 15 pounds, cant sleep because of numbness and electric shocks in my jaw, I hope someone reads this and does exactly the opposite of everything I;ve done . If i end up with permanent damage because of this i will surly start a medical malpractice suit against them for lack of informed consent and negligence . thanks for reading this and for gods sake please listen to me...stay away from aspen dental in auburn ny

no focus on prevention
First off, I was trying to get a preventative cleaning, they wanted to do everything else but. On the day I came back for my cleaning they conveniently said the dental hygienist was behind but I could get my other work done.
The dentist was abrupt, filled one filling to my knowledge but I was told by billing I had had 5 fillings...there is no way that 5 fillings can be completed in 15 minutes. They also said I needed a crown replaced when I had no symtpoms at all of problems. Then the girl doing the xrays was not even a hygienist. When I finally got my cleaning it was the worse one I have every had in my life, and I am 57, it was painful, and they didn't even floss at the end.
But the biggest red flag was when I noticed that for an office of 5 dentists, they only had 2 hygienists but 5 persons doing billing. Hello?
we know what the focus is factory style care, move them in and out, and rack up as many 'procedures as possible'
Will not go back... calling for my records today.

service and billing
Aspen in Scranton/Dickson City is just a big rip-off dentist supermarket. Don’t go! I went in there for just a routine check-up and cleaning and they sold me on this High-Teac periodontal deep cleaning and added if I don’t do this I’ll lose my teeth at 65. Plus They graded me on a point system that made me a less then middle of the road candidate so my teath were not that bad. I ended up having them do the High-teac cleaning that cost me over $1200 and my insurance would only pay $300 of it because most of the services that they did was not recognized medically necessary. Now with billing, I been fighting back and forth with them of a over payment of a special electric tooth brush that they billed me for but felt my Oral-B was good enough. . So my service was in January of 2009 and here it is April and I sill and requesting for a refund for the brush. I just moved here from NY and always my old dentist and others told me my teeth are good. I never have any pain in my mouth. I feel I ended up getting burned for a $900 from Aspen for a teeth-cleaning job that would have gotten paid by my insurance if it was just that. I’m also out $160 of over billing for the darn brush. I would not recommend going to Aspen dental if you don’t want to get into high-pressured sales of stuff you don’t need. Aspen to me is just a supermarket franchise of product that probably you don’t need but pressured to get because they get perks on selling them. Your first time visit with them you will feel you are at a time share seminar.

charging for services not rendered
I went to Aspen Dental to have a cracked tooth repaired in December of 2008. After x-rays, and a dental examination I was told Ihad numerous cavities and 4 teeth that would probably need root canals and crowns. After filing for cedit through CareCredit I was told the total of my bill would be over $2700. After having the initial root canal done, I cancelled the rest of the procedures because this was too much debt for me to incur, being on a fixed income. They said find, they would put it in my file that the rest of the procedures were cancelled. In February I received a bill from CareCredit for the total amount for all the procedures! I contacted Aspen Dental about this and they said they would reimburse CaeCredit for the amount not used. Not only did they not cancel the rest of the amount OR reimburse CareCredit, but they had never filed the claim with my insurance company. In February my insurance carrier sent them $1000 to be reimbursed to CareCredit-it is now March and CareCredit tells me they have still not been reimbursed by Aspen Dental, my insurance carrier is probably out $1000.00. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's office within the next few days. I was always under the impression that it was NOT legal to charge someone for services not rendered!

Does insurance fraud ring a bell here! They use scare tactics to get you to to take out a loan for services that you may or may not need and charge the whole amount of what they quoted even if the services were performed or not. Unscrupulous business practices to say the least. Say away from this place. CONSIDER YOURSELF WORNED! DON'T WALK RUN, FROM THIS PLACE

I also am a patient with aspen dental and im so upset with this company! I went in with a toothache was told they needed pulled and i would need dentures, The dentist explained that my teeth were so loose that they were just going to fall out and cause me torment, ha little did i know that the torment was to come. I agreed to the procedure and he started extraction well he couldnt get me numb on the bottom, he told me it will be fast that they were so "loose" well two hours it took to torture me and remove my teeth with NO numby, but...the problem doesnt stop there I have been in and out of that office trying to get a set of teeth that fits, he actually sent me home with set #3 that does not fit i havent ate a meal that requires chewing in months, Im so depressed that I will never have teeth again, I will never enjoy food again I will never be able to go out in public again I will never speak normal again All because I was suckerd into removing teeth I should have never had removed, ,
