Awful bank
A villa was purchased when there was money. I am on a fixed income $1, 600.00/mo and have been since 1992! We had to use equity after my husband lost job Feb 2006. No Job, no more income. We applied for a loan. We received this loan through Countrywide Finances; when my husband was still out of work at 61 years of age. No hope for employment and Countrywide still gave us a loan. A 15 year mortgage for a villa of $198, 000.00 dollars. "That's ok; we can work it out..." I was too tired to fight any more, they said yes, so we signed.
I had to exhaust my mutual fund account and what part of my Roth IRA, I could. With medical complications, more bills, we maxed out that credit card. We asking Countrywide to stop collecting our escrow and return our money. I get an 'OK, no problem.' Surprisingly within a week we had our escrow money. At least that dropped our payment to $1.500.00 monthly.
Then we received a letter dated October 28, 2008 with a message saying we were expected to pay our Real Estate Taxes. No fooling? At least there was enough money in escrow to pay the taxes. We were not willing to risk letting them lose that money! Yes, our taxes are paid!

customer service
I helped my dad call BoA to ask for a lower interest rate (he doesn't speak English well) on his credit cards, and my dad had called earlier this month, but he didn't really understand. So I was talking to this lady, and she pretty much said that he wasn't qualified for a lower interest rate, and can only be if he pays on time. (which he does, but I didn't know that until after the call because my dad went to the store right after the caller person talked to him to let me talk about his account- so what is this lady talking about?} She seemed nice, until she realized that his account was in a lot of debt and that BoA had canceled his card. I understand canceling the cards, but damn, her attitude was totally different. And then I asked her what we can do, she pretty much said there's nothing to do. And then I asked for a supervisor, and she said she was the highest I could go. And then I started saying that she was not helpful, and as I was about to say I wan
ted to speak to someone else, she hangs up on me. HANGS UP. And then I call back, and ask for the person I was talking to so I could complain about her, they said they have no record of the call. Of course there's no record. She probably didn't submit it because she hung up on me. Really? I mean, right now, some many people are in trouble, and she has the audacity to hang up on me and not let me talk to some one above her? I did not believe her at all that she was the supervisor. So they gave me an address that I can send a letter to, but that really does no good because its not like they can find out who it is. I can't believe them. My whole family is at BoA and I will definitely move them, and tell EVERYONE NOT to use BoA. Just because they are the only ones surviving this crisis, doesn't mean they can treat people like crap. I can't believe them.
I am letting everyone know BoA customer service sucks. I've had many more problems on top of this, but I am so frustrated, because there is nothing I can do about it except complaint.
fraud and cheating
This is what Bank of America did to me. We bought our home in December 2006. It is an older home and needed a lot of repair. They had an appraisal done and appraised the home at $105, 100.00. The was bought for $52, 000.00. Well we purchased our own home owners insurance and the insurance and the yearly taxes were escrowed into the payment of the home.
Our payments were $496.00. The next thing we know they sent a payment book in February 2008 with the payment amount of $2, 110.00 a month. We thought it ws a typo until we went to pay the payment. Well the had no explanation to why at the time. Well we checked into it further that they had not paid our insurance or taxes. They lapsed our insurance and force placed their insurance of $13, 000.00. That put our escrow out of whack by -$20, 000.00. Well we couldn't afford that. We tried to get more insurance and because we don't have a central heat and air unit and new siding on the house we can't get insurance. The home was built in 1920 and needs updates. The Florida commission said until we get these updates and due to the fact the back let our insurance lapse we won't be able to get new insurance. Well the home is in foreclosure. We have been to court twice now and the judge agreed there is a discrepancy on there part. The court both times we have went come out in our favor. The next day after court Bank of America hired SAFE-Loc to enter our home and change all of the locks on the doors. A week later they hird some other guy to cut the grass. They gave him the new keys to the home. First of all if he is cutting the grass why does he need to enter the home? Anyway he entered the home and started removing the contents that was still in the home. Well remember the judge has not awarded them the home. We went to the local sheriff's office and tried to get a No- Tresspass warrant to no avail. We have no lawyer cause we can't afford one and have been fighting this ourselves. We go back to court on November 5, 2008. I just hope that they fix our credit cause they have really messed it up. I hope they reward us either the home or they money we have paid into the home including the money used for remodeling. Something has to give.

I have been dealing with these people for a while. They purchased my account from MBNA. I subsequently moved and was unable to find a job for quite a while. I got very far behind on my payments and that it totally my fault. I tried to get it back on track but it seemed as though I couldn't get ahead with anything. So... a year later... I have a good job and am still trying to claw my way out of a financial hole. FIA contacts me about making payments to get back in good standing. I authorize ONE payment in July 2007. They take money out in August and September, overdrawing my account by dearly $500 when the do so. I contacted my bank when it happened and they immediately gave me the money back and closed the account. Fine. Everything is ok. Two months later, FIA calls me and offers me a settlement. I took the offer and was supposed to make six payments at the end of each month. I made all of my payments on time. After the 5th payment, I got a phone call from a collection agency telling me my debt had been charged off. So, I contacted FIA and the first thing they told me was that they never got a payment. When I tell them I have a receipt, they say I didn't make the payment in time. Then I pull my phone records to make sure (I made the payments at a branch and had to call in a transaction number), because I can be a little flaky sometimes. My phone records indicate I made a phone call on 2/28 at 3:56PM and the receipt I have indicates I made the payment at 3:55PM. They are still calling me a liar! These people are crooks, liars and cheats! They care nothing about the average American who works hard day in and day out for their money!
I have been reading all these posts about these crooks and I'm beginning to wonder, where's the lawsuit? Has one been filed? Don't you think it's time to fight back and stand up for ourselves? I say call the FTC with complaints. Go to their website - ftc.gov. Something has to be done about these people. They have taken advantage for far too long!
I was foreclosed on 4 months ago and I am still living in my wonderful home. If you are in foreclosure you should visit icansuemylender.com. Or you can call them at [protected].
Bank of America (and many banks) are in the process of getting taxpayer money while continuing to implement policies that take advantage of the American people.
I recently learned of a number of hard working, bill paying, NEVER LATE WITH A PAYMENT, people like myself that have had their credit limit lowered by bank of America on their cc. Which on the surface is minor ( it was a card i never used so it was quite funny to me) nonetheless, it intrigued me and i started digging.
Bank of America purchased Countrywide, an underwriter of 20% of the nation's home loans. when added with BoA loans that is a large portfolio.
The largest issue with Countrywide seems to be the predatory lending accusations (ie home loan terms)now owned my BoA.
so BoA lowers a cc limit on thousands of customers. which of course lowers their credit rating because now they are using 100% of their credit limit as opposed to less than 25% days earlier (as in my case). Now those same customers are less able to be in a position to refinance those poorly structured Countrywide written, now BoA owned home loans. Therefore more money for BoA.
This is wrong and should be looked into.
discrimination
bank of ameica is a great company to work however the management teams have created a system of destroying talent especially minority . most of their management project or plan is to target minority . Especially those banking center auditors are always targetting minorities ; he looks like this bank is against minorities something need to be done to stop it especially cambridge and west .
My employer is a Bank of America customer. When I babysit I get paid with a Bank of America check. I went to Bank of America to cash my $13 check. I pulled up to the drivethru and they told me that the drivethru was ONLY for Bank of America customers. I parked and went in. There were 2 lines. One for Bank of America account holders and one for Bank of America non-account holders. I got into the non-account holders. I stood there for more than 30 minutes watching tellers taking people out of turn. When I inquired, I was told that they take care of their Bank of America account holders first, over non-account holders in line. The non-account holders were only being serviced by the teller who also had to cover the drivethru. Therefore, only when there were no cars inline or pulling in, were non-account holders serviced. If, in the middle of a transaction with a non-account holder, a car pulled up to the drivethru, everything was put aside and the person at the drivethru would be taken care of before finishing the non-account holder's transaction.
This is blatant discrimination. After missing my doctor's appointment (which is going to cost me), and I was called up to the counter, I submitted my measly $13 check. They told me they charge me $6 to cash it because even though it was a Bank of America check, I wasn't an account holder. They also said they would have to take my fingerprint. So to cash my $13 check I have to pay them $6? Didn't we just bail these people out? Non-account holders also bailed them out, not just account holders. I would like to know if these are grounds for a class action law suit.
bait and switch
In May of 2008 I applied for a refinance of my home to take out equity in the amount of $25, 000 for a kitchen remodel and to pay off some higher interest credit cards. My home is appraised at $260, 000 and my mortgage balance is $108, 000. After applying for the loan I was told that everything looked good and was given a closing date 3 weeks out. I kept in contact with our Countrywide rep at least twice a week to make sure everything was on track, which it was. The day before we were to close the loan, our rep called me and said that due to an error in their entering figures, I did not qualify for the loan. Meanwhile, I had already gutted my kitchen and had plumbers and electricians in to work on the house which I paid with credit cards intending to pay them off at loan closing. The next day, the rep called me back to say they could do the loan, but at a substantially higher interest rate. BAIT AND SWITCH.
To add insult to injury, I received a letter notifying me that a Countrywide employee had stolen and sold my personal information. In all their generosity, they offered two years of credit monitering. Wow, how nice of them.
To pour salt on the wound, they called my house. My wife answered, expecting it to be a confirmation call that we had gotten the letter regarding the identity theft, but NO, it was a sales call, offering a great "pre-approved" loan. My wife made the poor guy quiver in his cubicle and told him that we would NEVER do business with these clowns ever again. By the way, we did not choose to do business with them in the first place. Our mortgage was sold to them from the local bank who wrote it.
DO NO DO BUSINESS WITH COUNTRYWIDE.
They will do everything in their power to screw you. Just look at all the other complaints on this site or Google "Countrywide complaints, lawsuits.
Since B of A now has all Countrywide loans, I've applied for a re finance with B of A after they sent me advertisements stating I qualify for a lower interest rate loan. After talking with B of A, I DID 'qualify', based on my income and assets and the fact that the home is worth over $300, 000 and I only have an outstanding debt of $60, 000. After hearing I was qualified, the loan officer in Texas said I needed to pay a "loan origination" fee of $450 to proceed with the loan.
Now, 30 days into it and after the $450 has been paid and the appriaser has done the appraisal proving the loan to value is good, the loan requirements have changed. Now they say my income to debt ratio is un acceptable. The now want to assume my credit card debt thereby increasing the original loan amount and want me to show an additional $3400 in my savings. This is classic Bait and Switch. In addition, they said that the $450 which I paid based on the fact that I was "qualified" will not be refunded, even though the man on the phone said I was qualified when he took the $450 out of my credit card!
I agree with everyone out there. Countrywide is run by a bunch of crooks. They froze my equity line of credit because they didn't pull thier payment on time. My insurance company just recently sent them copies of my insurance coverage twice and they said they never got it either time. I got a letter that said I had till 4/2/09 to provide them with my coverage information or they will add thier own insurance. Well they added their own insurance and reflected so on my bill they sent out this month (March). Today is the 25th. After calling them on they said it was on there and I haven't been charged. Liars...it's on my billing statement.
They also said at one time that I was two months behind and owe fees of $500.00. I knew I was two months behind so I sent the two past due amounts, the $500 in fees and my current bill. This amounted to approximately $2000.00. Now they say I am paid one month in advance and still owe the $500.00 in fees. What the hell! I sent them the letters with the checks so they knew where to apply everything. And by the way I send extra every month to pay down the $500.00 and even when I write it on my remittance where it's suppose to go they still never apply and never reflect the extra on my recieved payments section of the billing statement. Anyone want to sue? I'm in! Contact information Erica, Ericamattie@yahoo.com...
We could lose $22,000 due to Countrywide's unethical business practices
My fiance and I applied and were "approved" for a mortgage. It was only asking very specifically several times if we were approved did we finally agree to put forth upfront costs on new home construction upgrades of $22, 000. Against our better judgment we had to utilize Countrywide in order to get the closing costs paid by KB Homes. They instructed us to go ahead and rent our his home while we were in the process. We did so. My fiance has moved in to my apartment where the lease ends in one month. Our closing date is scheduled for November 20th of 2008 (10 days from now). We were just notified by Countrywide 2 days ago that they cannot accept my fiance's off-duty pay, which is additional pay he receives as a sheriff's deputy in addition to his salary, which accounts for approximately $1000/mth. They JUST informed us of this even though they approved us months ago with certainty that we were "set and ready to go". In addition, they informed us that his rental property that is currently rented at $1100/mth has decreased in value within the last two months that they now they cannot approve our loan as they cannot accept any of the rental payment we are receiving. We are at risk of losing our $22, 000 if we are not able to get a mortgage for this home. Again, we close in 10 days and don't know what to do. What's so frustrating about this is that getting our representative at Countrywide to even return calls during the 4month process was nearly impossible. Even our KB representative was frustrated. We've been screwed out of $20, 000 and we have no home! WE CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY ARE ABLE TO DO THIS TO PEOPLE.
wrongful termination
I WAS FIRED FOR AN UNDISCLOSED COMPANY POLICY!
On 11/7/08 I was advised that a call center audit was done to see how long each person was taking in between out bound calls. I was advised that the audit indicated that I was taking excessive time in between outbound calls... Countrywide didn’t give me the opportunity to be coached for this issue especially seeing that previous clear expectations were never set. Instead it was immediately looked upon as intentionally avoiding calls and I was immediately terminated... After firing myself and a few others, on the same day Countrywide immediately coached the remaining phone agents and allowed action plans for some and rolled out guidelines and set clear expectation for others.
I was employed with Countrywide Home Loans from 1/22/08 to 11/07/08. I worked in Countrywide’s Tempe Arizona office. I must say this has been the worst job experience thus far Countrywide doesn’t know if it’s coming or going. You would think that the number one Mortgage provider is capable of operating a first class business. When I started I was in a classroom training environment for 6 weeks, in the classroom training environment we were only allowed to learn the bases of loan servicing. We were advised that the main part of loan servicing would come once we are on the phone in a on the job training environment. My first thought was my in the world would you let a non-experienced person with minimum knowledge service a loan that is either in foreclosure/facing foreclosure or in major turmoil. I should have known something was up when my interview for the job only lasted 15 minutes, and I got the job.
Working with Countrywide has been the most stressful event in my life. It’s hard having a job when all you do is talk to irate people who are experiencing a financial hardship. It doesn’t make it any better when the company doesn’t provide you with the support that you need. Now don’t get me wrong, Countrywide Home Loans spends tons of money on equipment and resources and other irrelevant/miscellaneous things, but it doesn’t do you any good when you are not properly trained on how to use the equipment/resources or when Countrywide’s trained Leadership staff i.e. Directors, Managers, Training Dept., Team Leads and TL Assistance through out the U.S. are not on the same page nor are they effectively communicating the same messages. Anytime you can ask 10 different team leaders the same question and get 10 different answers, or when management is more concerned about the dress code so that they can make a good impression for visiting investors in order to get more money, there’s a problem. Countrywide Home Loans is a joke and I encourage anyone who has ever been terminated, has lost a house to foreclosure or financed a home loan with Countrywide Home Loans to seek legal advice to have the issued reviewed for typical Countrywide errors.
I began what I thought could be my career at Countrywide Home Loans on November 26th 2007. Throughout my year of service to Countrywide I was switched from team leader to team leader. In most of my evaluations (scorecards) I was above department standards.
Now, on September 4th I was moved to a new team, Under a new team leader who did not address ANY of my questions or concerns for example per procedure I advised my team lead I was going to vote 3 Business days in advance he said "I'll take care of it" November 4th rolls around and I go to vote.. coming in 30 minutes late I get the response "well we can't change it but I wouldn't doc you on it haha" I was NOT satisfied with this answer what so ever.. so on November 6th, I went to a manager and gave her this situation told her I would like to be removed from the team an put back on the shift I came from (12-9) I told her I felt neglected, I was not given proper coaching & that I felt my performance levels are being effected because of his poor performance as a team leader. She agreed and said she will see to it that this is looked into.
Friday November 7th at 10:15am I am pulled into another manager's office along with my team leader where he said "we recently did an audit & according to the report you have about 3 hours of call avoidance" I began to explain.. when a new representative is placed on the floor he or she is sat next to a more tenured rep. they sat a woman who I even questioned her TML if she had even gone through training (this is how bad it is) right in front of me this woman asked a question during EVERY call she also did not have access to many of the systems needed to service a call. I had already notified 3 team leaders of her poor knowledge of the systems & procedures and asked repeaditly that she be moved, (they replied bofa will not allow it) I asked if she would be able to go through training again, & I also asked if she were able to sit next to me to listen to me take calls to get a better understand I typed up countless sheets of information & call flow for this woman.. without letting me fully explain myself the manager SHELIA ALLEN became angry and proceeded with the termination. I then asked for a termination letter, she rose her voice & shouted "NO! WHY WOULD I GIVE YOU THAT?" I then stood up, I wanted to leave at this point I felt threatened. She demanded " YOU NEED TO SIT DOWN RIGHT NOW " I told her I no longer worked there and wanted to leave she then said "YOU NEED TO SIT DOWN AND YOU ARE GOING TO RESPECT ME" from the commotion in the room the AVP on site came to the room opened the door & I walked out onto the floor the AVP asked what was going on & I told her I wanted a termination letter. She asked me to step back into the room.. feeling threated I asked to be escorted out of the building.. before stepping out of SHELIA ALLEN'S office I notified her negative attention from the media will come of this. I walked to the parking lot, retrieved my vehicle and started driving through the parking lot, as I drove past the doors of my former employer SHELIA ALLEN emerges from the doors throwing her hands up in a threatening manner. These actions are shocking coming from a manager.
Countrywide has now hired in 2 new training classes at half as much as I, & the 25 other employees terminated that day. I will be going to the Labor board for discrimination.
If you were a victim of this attack performed by countrywide located at 1515 w 14th st. please e mail me with your response.
i too am a countrywide /boA employee and everyday i fear i will lose my

remember your average handle time lol we have to lie/improvise
to satisfy them oh my god and dont let them ask for a manger
because our tmls or mangers dont wanna speak to them either and do anything to avoid with transfering to there voicemail thats there favorite stunt
I'm seeing more and more of these happening, specifically at Balboa Insurance, which is a subsidiary of Countrywide. From what I know, the department headed by Joe Penny, Leasa Cox and Merrill Brimley had just terminated 5 people. That's half the people on their claims team! There was an internal investigation done on one person with bad attendance, which then escalated into 4 other members of the team. Each person was called into Mr. Penny's office one by one, to possibly get a confession or confirmation of people allegedly doctoring their time cards. After 3 business days of "investigation", 5 people were terminated. No actual proof was shown to these people about their alleged misbehavior. Time cards were supposed to be reviewed through the supervisors prior to being sent through HR, however that was not done. Were the supervisors written up for neglect? And what of the other people in the building? Wasn't it possible that people in other departments were doing the same misconduct? Was there an investigation done on those? Is it possible that these people were terminated because Balboa Insurance Group needed to cut costs, but didn't want to cause a panic of "LAY OFFS" in people's minds? There was an announcement made that there weren't letting people go, however not even a week has passed and 9 people were let go! This would be a convenient reason to keep the people on their jobs and not look elsewhere, leaving their tremendous workload behind.
And what about promotions in the workplace? People were told that because of the transition, there will be no increases or promotions. Yet Joe Penny calls an employee into his office, and offers him a promotion! A person who nonetheless works hard, but only knows one job function. Let me pose this question. How do you justify promoting that person, versus a person who knows multiple job functions, and has been with the department for several years? What would be a reason that this person would be passed over? Could it be that because she's a woman? For all those working in the claims department of Balboa Insurance Group, I suggest you look into Joe Penny's department, and ask yourselves out of all his employees, do the men have a better pay band than the women? And while you're asking yourselves this, here's another question. You have an employee that transferred back to your department, to do the same thing everyone else is doing with claims except their pay did not change. This person is getting paid as much as an adjuster, but is doing the job functions of someone significatly lower, and much less work than the others! Last I heard, poor work performance is a basis of termination. Perhaps things are different in Balboa Insurance, as it would obviously seem.
What strikes me as more odd is how are the other supervisors letting this pass? Leasa Cox or Merrill Brimley, your silence behooves me to think that you don't think you have anyone in your teams worth promoting. What happened to the speeches in your meetings about how valuable your teams are, and how you appreciate everything they've done. Are you implying that there is not one person in your teams more competent than the person Joe Penny wanted to promote? Are you exceeding your monthly numbers? Are the teams meeting their minimum "quota"?
Unfair practices and wrongful termination. I wonder what the Labor Board would think about this?
Hello
I am a former Countrywide employee. I was just fired on January 5, 2009 after almost 4 years of service in the Lancaster Call Center. Most of the complaints I been seeing are about the borrowers...let me tell you what goes on in the call center. They are firing people for no reason. I was told I was terminated due to I hung up on a call. I was refused the chance to see the call and was not given any opportunity to explain anything. It turns out I have alot of friends in there and little did they know alot of them are Team Leaders. I was able to find out the next day what the call was about..the call was what we call a dead air call...NO ONE WAS ON THE LINE! The Team Leader I was under has it out to fire any one and they allow this to go on. I was then told when i filed a complaint with HR that I was fired due to the previous Office of the President issue I was written up for in 2007 and I am tenured and should know better...Unbelieveable. I have not ever missed a day of work and that issue in 2007 was all due to the borrower had PMI and CHL would not remove it so he took it to the next level and I was written up for following procedure. The procedure on dead air calls is called star 7...NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROCEDURE!. This was never trained. If you are currently in any call center and a dial tone, or dead air call comes in please please press *7 to return to the borrower or they will have your ###. Oh and another thing that the labor board is now aware of...they can not terminate you for previous write ups due to they have an expiration date, If the couunseling follows you the rest of your natural life it needs to state it without an expiration date, . I hope when B of A takes over, they wipe all the management and Team Leaders out because their 7 principles don't mean ### and they have no ethics or morals on how they treat people then maybe they will see what it is like to get ###ed in the ### with no vaseline. If there are any class action lawsuits COUNT ME IN. I am going to make it known on every website, radio and tv what is going on. Be careful when filing unemployment because their new scam is that you were never employed there so it delays the claim so they can find more dirt to catch u on to not pay you...Yes it happened to me they said I did not ever work there. I have proof I was indeed an employee. SlimyBastards.

Rip off
This company preyed on me when I was most vulnerable, right after a divorce. They promised me a better loan with better interest, and an ARM would be the best thing for my situation. Little did I know that the best for me would have been to stay with USDA. My payments with USDA would never have gone up to more than $758 per month. My payments are with countrywide, $995 and HSBC $298 (countrywide sold a partial to HSBC. Over half my salary. They refuse to refinance me, they just keep modifying the loan, but not to any help to me. I am moving towards foreclosure, I have been temporarily off work to due a surgery and have fallen behind in my payments. I feel hopeless in catching up, and just feel this person who had me sign these papers knew I was under much emotional distress and she also completed the paperwork, taking my ex/husband off the title of the home by using out dated information and falsified paperwork.

IRS reporting
In 05 I settled with FIA Card Services on a card balance. The agreement was that I would pay the principal off on a card. The interest would be waived. Great! I paid it. Nothing more until now-- I just got a letter from the IRS that FIA Card Services sent them a notification that I have an increase in income to the tune of over $1600... Now my taxes for 06 have been recalculated and I have back taxes and interest to pay. The total is more than I owed in the first place...
If I owe taxes for 'cancellation of debt', fine, but I should have been told this would be reported and at the very least get a 1099...
I just found out that mbna bank now FIA card services has put a interest fee on my 07 IRS without telling me and I paid them off in 05 I do not have $800 for a debt I have already paid off
overcharge of appraisal bank fees
we were overcharged with two of our applications we put in for a new home mtg. they took appraisal monies then denied us for the property. we were over qualifed and should not have been given the ok then get appraisal monies to decline us.
we are upset with John nyugen/mtg broker from countrywide.
he overcharged us only to deny us the loan. we should not have been so far as to get appriasals on property only to be denied.
theft & calling it overdraft
I am paid by direct deposit. My deposit came in on the 19th. I looked at my account online that morning and it said I had 210.00. (Direct deposit had come in) Later that same day, I went shopping. B of A overdrafted every single purchase that day. Thats 4 purchases, which did not add up to 210.00. What they did was list the trasactions first, and the deposit last, even though the desposits came in before the transactions. 120.00 in overdrafts, when then money was in my account that morning. When I called coustomer service, they were very rude. Both times. Infact, both ladies seemed to imply that I "deserved it" some how. Refused to reverse the charges. I had to go to the branch manager with my complaint...anyone in that situation, that is the only thing you can do. Warning: They will take your money if they can.
Bank of America closed my personal account because I recieved a bad check which was quickly rectified. They charged me a lot of money, which they call "over draft fees" I call it theft.. I then closed my business account with them as I feel they are theives.. Well, now I am getting bills from them and they also sent my closed account, which was closed over a year and a half ago to a collection agency.. No checks were outstanding at the time I closed my business account. I wish everyone using bank of america would close their accounts and stop them from stealing from their customers any longer.
overdraft fee
how can you deposit a check that is reversed from your account and then lost meanwhile they start charging you overdraft fees and never find your item you deposited, they reversed, and while you are trying to get another replacement check to fix their loss they just keep charging and charging...to add salt to the wound now that your account is overdrawn we are going to hold the next deposit (although it is a bank check) for another ten days and keep racking up fees! This is a ludicrous way to treat a customer. I closed the account and a month later receive a call that the account is 735.00 overdrawn...in fees, multiplying fees on top of fees. Well Bank of America, you can keep those fees in that overdrawn account along with the $1280.00 in fees I was too sick with cancer to catch, and have a nice day! I am finally wiser to your pitiful game.
Dear Ms. Peterson, last month I was out of town and didn't realize my phone bill was a little over a $1 higher so I was charged a $35 overdraft fee. I called the Bank of America number and requested a refund but was told they don't do that. That's my first overdraft fee and I don't understand the problem. It really seemed outrages that I was charged that overdraft fee for just that small amount. Please let me know what I can do to avoid this problem. I've been a good customer since 2011 and I thought my request to refund the overdraft was reasonable. Thank you for your time and I hope I can avoid this problem again.
This complaint post is for my daughter. She had 4 overdraft fees taken from her BoA account recently. The problem arises in she had transferred money from her savings into her checking (both BoA) on the weekend. All the transactions posted the same day, however, before the pending transactions went through, the overdraft fee was calculated putting her in the red. So, when the transfer posted the same day as the debits (I am sure the debits were first-all little amounts under $10), she incurred 3 more nsf fees. Now she is in the red with no way of putting anything in the account. If the first nsf had not been calculated with pending but not posted transactions, this domino effect would never have occurred. We filed complaints with the Federal Reserve (on their website), The FTC (from website), and the BBB about these practices. The Fed Reserve claims to investigate complaints. I do not know what they do if anything, but what the heck? Too bad they do not realize without customers, they have NO business! More corporations need to realize that the BIG accounts are not the biggest part of their business, but it's the "little guy" who keeps them running. In my biz, I would rather have 20 small accounts, than 2 Big accounts. I may go to a lawyer if we receive no satisfaction at the local branch. Or... perhaps we all need to ban together somehow and create a petition if it has not already been done.
hi
i and my husband have been charged for late fee around 5 times once for 1.50 dollar.we lost 1000 dollar when we calculated till now. its such a worst thing with customers ripping off the money 35 dollar everytime .
any way want to cancel the account asap . why is there no government bank in usa? the private banks are always like this.
please suggest a good bank in usa.
I am extremely disappointed with the overdraft fees, I honestly was not aware of them. If I would of known about the charges I wouldn’t of used my debit card PERIOD! Also another thing I am disappointed at is that the bank employers didn’t inform me about placing a hold on a deposit I made of $160. I am a very responsible and organized person I keep track of every single transaction I make whether it’s a purchase, transaction at an ATM, deposit, etc. Because of this dissatisfaction I called the 1800 number spoke to a representative then got transferred to a manager on duty and he was even more disrespectful and disconnected the call, while I was being honest in a very polite way. I would appreciate if someone will reply to this email or contact me through phone or address as soon as possible. Thanks for your comprehension.
Bank of America does not pay items as presented. They "pick and choose" the payment of item in order to incur the largest amount of overdraft fees. They turn a deaf ear when you protest this practice. Bank of America shouldn't be entitled to any stimulus money. They already have their own bailout...it called overdraft fees! "We the People" need to take back our power and stop being victims. Inundate the White House with letters and emails demanding that the president do something about B of A. What they do to the American people is true terrorism!
I would LOVE to be a part of a class action suit against B of A. I can't even begin to tell you the stories I have of them actually STEALING from me. Contact me at leequaid@yahoo.com if you get an attorney.
I am dealing with this too it is crazy.I am switching banks but I agree something needs to be done.
abusive customer service rep
Beware of bank of america. I called to cancel the privacy assist plan which boa had offered through telemarketing. I was told the materials would be mailed to me and that I would have 30 days to review it and if I wanted to cancel I could do so in that 30 day period with no obligation. The telemarketing call to me was 8/19/08 and the postmark on the...

This is similar to what I have had happen. Last week, I had had my direct deposit posted and went to pay a few bills. when I checked online, everything was posted and "Cleared" according to what I seen online. which my balance was $94.87 I made a $80.oo payment then a $7.84 and a $4.27 charge which would have made my balance at that point $2.76. well I went and figured "all is fine, everything was taken care of" little did I know that as of this time this morning, I incurred $105.00 in NSF fees that was completly unwarrented. I called them and they told me the charges were posted before the deposit and the fees will not be refunded. I feel taken advantage of by Bank of America and will never deal with them again. All I see is a bank that takes advantage of people who does not make alot of money finds ways to make a buck of the consumer and this problem needs to be addressed. our hard earned money is our money which we need to survive..pay bills, get our medications, feed our children. How would they feel if those very same people that does this practice have this happen to them?
I agree, Bank of America they are thieves, I signed up for the text message feature for account balance, I had available money in my checking account, all of the sudden I am overdrawn. It turns out I had to pay 7 fees of $35.00 each because I used my card on small things like coffee and luch, the upsetting part was that I rushed to make a deposit to cover for the amount I went over (less than 10 usd) and I still got hit with the 7 fees totaling $245.00 usd, when I called, they practically said TOO BAD but in a business-like manner. This people have no compassion. I am a single mother with a 4 month old baby. My next paycheck will be $0.00 because this fees are going to absorb it all, and in top of that they will charge me a $35.00 fee for being overdrawn 5 days in a row. I hope someday government regulates the excessive fees this banks charge. No wonder American people are broke, we are just paying fees for the CEO's to get more rich.
terrible organization
I was relocated for my job from NH to MD in November 2007 and forced to put my house on the market just has things were getting bad. As it turns out, the market was already so bad that the homes in our area were already valued at less than what many had paid - including us. At this point, we contacted countrywide about a possible short sale. They said to call back when we had an offer on the home. Finally, in July 08, we had an offer. Called Countrywide. They had us send documentation incldg bank and tax statements so that the short sale process could begin. We faxed the info 7 times... each time they claimed they did not receive despite the fact that we got "successful send receipts". This lasted 2 months. Finally they acknowledged receipt. Since then (in September) we have been told that our account is waiting to be assigned a negotiator. Still has not happened. called today and they say it's because they ordered appraisal but that it never came back. They have to do it again. And round and round we go. In the meantime, we may loose our buyers because they are getting tired of waiting for this process to be complete. Countrywide does not seem to care. I don't understand why they wouldn't want to sell the house now vs. the possibility of us having to foreclose on the property. We can't afford a mortgage in NH and rent in MD much longer... it is becoming too much. I hate Countrywide. I hope they crash and burn.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
My home loan was sold to country wide. 3 of us purchased the home as 2 partners (husband and myslef as half, other party as half.) we split all costs, down payment, etc. we signed ALL forms equally and all loan documents. After 2 years, I recently found that Country wide left the other party off the loan and therefore she is not responsibe for the outrageous interest only loan. As my credit sinks, she has walked away without a care. I spoke to countrywide numerous times to fix this problem and they always said tthe same thing...call back in a week. finally, a woman told me it was taken care of. What a surprise I had when my ex partner got other loans without a problem since Countrywide NEVER fixed the problem. according to countrywide, she is not responsible since she is only on the deed but not the loan. This is total fraud to me and countrywide should have to fix this. They keep assuring me it will be fixed, but so far, it is not. They are really not to be trusted! This was the biggest mistake of my life and I blame countrywide for this. Does anyone know if this could be considered a fraudulent loan?
outrageous fees
I have repeatedly been screwed over by boa. Their website is great... As long as you want to track how many overdraft fees you will receive!
They have a tendency to do two things 1) they will credit your account as little as legally possible ($100 until the check clears, even though the checking rules after 9/11 made checks clear almost immediately, although they can wait 7-10 business days to have it clear). And 2) wait for all that overdraft money to flow in. Your online statement will read something like this by date (Day 1) $700 paycheck pending, (Day 2) $200 on groceries pending, (Day 3) $200 on bills pending, (Day 4) $100 on car repairs pending, (Day 5) $100 on doctor bills, and (Day 6) $100 in cash. Guess what boa does? Sorry, but your paycheck didn't clear until they could rack up all those overdraft fees, so it's $35x6=$210. And that's just quick math for it. I've had more than a few overdraft charges because they dragged their feet with my paychecks. How can they really charge a person a $35 overdraft fee over a coke and a bag of chips?
I find this type of banking quite disgusting and prefer local banks. I'd rather pay the few dollars to get money at an atm than $35 for overdraft fees. It is absolutely ridiculous.
I am going through something similar. Except I deposited cash which post automactially to the account. They advised me they charged my account because I had more charges waiting to go through the account than I had in my account. Example
odf = over draft fee
Date Deposit Balance Hold Went though Balance Hold
9/[protected]
9/[protected]
9/17 50 0 -35 odf 9/15 15 0
9/18 15 40 - 40pd -65 0
9/19 -65 0 -35odf 9/18 -100
On 9/15 I had enough in the account to cover the 75.00 that went through the account. I was charge because the amount waiting to go into my account was more than the 100 in my account. If they would not have charged my account I would not have had any transactions bounce. The bank issued me a credit of 35.00 that should have back dated to the 17th. It didn't so the other overdrafts still occurred. This is legal theft of money. Does any know what the laws are regarding when the bank can charge overdraft fees?

I used the Bank of America machine that said if you deposited your check which it scanned and gave you the printed copy receipt of your check, that the fund would be available by 8pm and they weren't.
I talked to a customer service rep who said she didn't know anything about that kind of machine and was sorry they were advertising that and said that no one would be able to answer my questions. I then talked to a superviser who said that yes they would be available by that evening but that mine would not. I asked her several times what she meant and why mine would not be and she kept saying that even though it says that night, the funds don't process til the next day. She and her helper were very rude and could not answer the question of why my funds would not credit to the account the day they were deposited and kept telling me they would be available the next day. Her name was Stefanie Quevedo in Nevada.
Yes, we all know you (in all your alter IDs) are SO desperate for the love of your life to return, that you hope every poster is really her in disguise. That's the only possible explanation of your inability to talk about anything but your beloved nonnie.
dont tell me the mouse was reincarnated as Maggie.
I filed complaints with the BBB and the Office of the comptroller of currency.
I doubt that will help but at least I'm doing something about it now.
I also filed a complaint through AFFIL. Check them out. You can contact your Congressman through them about this.
faked an advance loan I never took out
My father died suddenly while I was traveling so I changed direction and went to his home. We needed clothing and such for his services and I did not have access to a computer so I decided to make an extra $3000.00 payment just to be sure we had plenty of room on our Alaska Airlines Bank of America Visa card. I did not yet owe a payment and I was not close to my limit. I am just cautious and know about all of the various ways credit card companies trap consumers into pirate interest rates and fees. In fact, I don't pay my bill each month by the due date, but by the earlier closing date so they cannot trick me into paying interest.
Apparently, when I made an automatic payment via their phone service, I input my routing number incorrectly. However, BOA gave me the message that the payment was made and gave me a confirmation number.
When I returned home a week later, exhausted and grieving, I discovered the $3000.00 payment hadn't processed. I called the company and they told me that the routing number was input incorrectly so I made the payment right there on the phone since I'd tried to earlier anyway. This payment was more than I owed for the billing period and almost three weeks before it was due.
Three weeks later when I looked at my account online I discovered a $3000.00 cash advance loan at almost 30% interest! I never asked for a cash advance, I never needed a cash advance, and altogether I had paid $6000.00 when I owed less than $5000.00 for that month! And I had paid it early!
I emailed customer service and they emailed me back telling me I had requested the loan. I corrected them and told them no, I had merely input the wrong digit into the phone when trying to make payment, no actual money went back and forth, and I made the payment a week later well in advance of when it was due and for at least $1500 more than I owed for that billing period. They wrote back telling me that they "could not" remove the cash advance or change anything. Mind you, I never actually got the $3000.00 because it was all just a numbers on paper game. They had debited my account the initial $3000.00 phone payment and then credited it, taken it back, the very same day. They claimed to have loaned me $3000.00, but did not actually give it to me to keep. I asked them that since, on paper, they my the payment back the same day they gave it to me, why didn't I have an extra $3000.00?
We went back and forth for days, they denied my request, then they stalled. My husband called them and lost his temper because the customer service person was rude and he kept excusing what was happening because we "had requested the cash advance." After my husband lost his temper, the customer service rep told him they would remove the cash advance and return the interest they had charged us. It was not removed and we were not reimbursed. Instead, both my paper bills and my online bills ceased! Someone changed my online billing status to stop my receiving them and I did not receive any in the mail!
I contacted them by email again since the phone calls had proved worthless and asked why they had not followed through on what customer service told us they would do for us. I received an email telling me that they were "reviewing" the issue and then I never heard from them again.
Because we use our card for almost everything in order to earn miles, there are charges on it almost daily. Instead of applying the $6000.00 in payments to what I owed that month, BOA applied it to new charges in the next billing period so that almost none of the $3000.00 "cash advance" was being paid. For the next three months our payments continued to be applied to new billing periods even when I sent in enough to pay the entire amount owed for each month plus the "cash advance." Thus, the cash advance was not going down by much each month.
Finally, we wrote to our Senator and included copies of everything. He wrote to them and forwarded our complaint to the comptroller's office. As soon as they got a letter from the Senator, a customer service rep called me, apologized profusely, returned our interest. removed the cash advance from our record, and refunded our yearly fee for that year. Although we have been reliable customers for many years, they weren't satisfied with the merchant fees they get every time we use our card; they wanted to force us into paying high interest. If our Senator had not written to them for an explanation, they would have continued cheating us.
Now, why didn't I think of that? I lost my patience and ended up battling B of A with anger and emotion. That's what they want you to do...then give up trying because you eventually get burnt out! I started to forget what it was that I was fighting for.
Anyway, I am glad to hear that you got the best of them. Thank you for sharing your story. I closed my account with B of A after my incident. (in which I caught them with various bank charges in my accts, then forcing me to prove to them that it's not appropriate otherwise I have to pay for them. total waste of time... but kept happening. they are the worst kind...evil, corrupt empire run by greedy a**holes.) Anyway, if i hear of any class action lawsuit, i am there.
This bank has done the same thing to me when I mistakenly entered one digit incorreclty paying by phone (more than the minimum as well). I discovered on my statement that they considered this a returned payment and a cash advance loan. I am not getting any response from to correct this, other than "The bank made no error". They are engaging in unfair and deceptive pratices. This allows them to charge 20% interest on a "loan" that cannot be paid off until the entire "purchases" balance is paid off, instead of a one time late fee which is what it should be. Although a confirmation of payment number should not have been provided if there was a digit missing from the pay by phone account info anyways, this would have alerted me that I made an error. So, just another way to trap its consumers that have good intentions of paying their bills. I will write my senator to see if they can help. Sorry to learn of your troubles, and my sympathy for your loss.
