the condition of the store and the quality of the clothes since selling out!
I went to the Southpoint Mall Durham, NC store Monday July 17th around noon and was shocked at the condition of the store. Clothes were piled up everywhere and the clearance took over 1/3rd of the store with clothes that must have been hauled in or pulled out of storage from several years. There were very few sales clerks and the few that were there could not possibly clean up the mess. I will not be returning to ANY Belk any time soon.
The new clothes are shabby, not good quality and WAY too faddish. I have always loved Belk because they had good quality classic women's clothes and brands you knew were consistent, but no more! Whoever bought the Belk stores should go back to the original buyers. This junk will close the stores faster than the online ordering trend.
online purchase was canceled without notification / false advertisement
I placed an order online for 4 items on Monday and applied for a belks credit card to received the 20% discount. I also paid the extra $25 for 2 day delivery fee since I need the items for Friday. My order of $309.00 was canceled without any notification. I only found out it was canceled because I logged on to my belks account to check the status. Once I saw the status stated canceled I called customer service and was advised my order was canceled because they didn't have the items in stock even though she confirmed that the website stated items were available. I am very disappointed with this situation since I do not have my items nor will I be able to take advantage of my 20% discount and all I am left with is a credit card that created an inquiry on my credit report. Belks is advertising false products on their website.
Return
I walked into my local belk to make a return of clothes unworn with tags due to incorrect size. When I walked in I went to the nearest customer service desk(this was the first return I have done at Belk). The lady was polite and processed my return promptly. As I knew i would be shopping I went to look at some dresses nearby. The lady walked over the another girl and loudly exclaimed "why do I get all the returns?" She stated when customers walk in they just go to the right and she has to deal with it. The other customer service consultant agreed and stated she gets them too. I immediately exited the store and went to the closest Dillard's. I've worked in retail for 6 years as a supervisor and found this highly unprofessional especially on the sales floor surrounded by other customers.
payment issues and rude behavior
I ordered two products on belk on friday, june 9th (Total of $138). The only reason I ordered these products from belk and not another retailer is they were offering 20% off for opening a belk credit card. I order almost everything online and have never had such a poor experience with the belk ordering system or customer service in general! It was a quick form to fill out for the credit card and I received approval right away and a temporary paper card with the cc # and 3 digit cvv code. After trying to enter this 4x online, it continued to tell me that there was an issue and to please see below the highlighted portion. Well nothing was highlighted and I had input everything correctly. I contacted them via their online chat service and that was a waste of time as they said they not only could not help me with the issue, in fact they couldn't even place the order! I work in advertising and we always setup our client's websites to allow for online purchases via live chat if their website allows for purchases. I've never heard of such a thing. After this I then contacted customer service via phone as the online rep had suggested. This person could not help me and had to transfer me to someone else. This next person told me that sometimes the temporary cvv codes do not work right away and transferred me to their bank that I had received the temporary belk credit card from (Keep in mind each time I was only transferred after having to explain my issue at great length!) this person wasn't able to help me at all either! She repeated that sometimes the temporary cvv codes do not work right away and that was that. I had her transfer me back to customer service as the entire reason I was using belk and opening a card was to save the 20%. After being transferred again, I was the one who had mentioned the previous belk customer service rep and bank said sometimes the cvv codes do not work on the temp. Cards and she said I needed to wait until I received the actual card. I said the negated the entire reason why I was making my purchase today, was for the one day 20% off for opening a belk credit card. She then suggested I go the in-store location. I had already told her i'm located in chicago. There are no stores in illinois. This woman, elaine, was so rude, I asked for her manager and her id#. She would not give me her id#. I'm sure for fear she would get in trouble for talking to a customer in such a rude tone. As I was explaining the situation to her, she interrupted me 4x to say, let me explain to you, in a demeaning tone, and I would cut her off and explain I was not done telling her what was going on. Once I spoke with her supervisor, he told me I would have to pay for it via my own credit card and he would credit me back the 20% off once it was shipped. I thought that was ridiculous but by this time I had already spent 2 hours and 45 mins on a friday evening with belk. I was processing the order with him and could hear him talking to elaine in the background. I had previously explained how rude she was and now asked him for her id# since I could hear her in the background and he would not give it to me because he claimed 'he did not have it' and she was no longer in the building. How would he know that and also I could hear him speaking with her the entire time! I said then I will take her last name. He said he could not give that out for privacy reasons. I said yes I understand, that's why each employee is given an id#. May I please have elaine's and he wouldn't give me elaine's id # (His name was chris). Now he promised me upside down he would personally watch my package and as soon as it shipped and credit me the 20% which I would receive an email once he did. Sure enough, it shipped out this morning and I waited all day for the email. Nothing. So I called belk and they had no record of this conversation or the # he gave me to reference the 20% but they did see I had opened the card and was entitled to the 20% off and gave it to me. However, when I asked if there was anything else that could be done since I spent 3+ hours on the phone for something that should have taken 15 minutes and dealt with such rude customer service, they said no we cannot stack coupons. Umm... This is not stacking coupons, your company made a number of mistakes and would not rectify them. Had it not been for my own persistence I would never have received the 20% off. Now lets see if these products actually end up coming! I would recommend to those of you considering using belk, do not! There are many other sites out there. Belk was incredibly rude, unhelpful and I wasted in total 3 hours and 50 minutes of my time without any apologies. Unless you feel like chasing after them for each little thing, don't bother!
cosmetics dept
When you walk in the store, and walk to the makeup counter, the girls look at you like you don't have the class to be in their space. They say, can I help you with an attitude . It made me feel so uncomfortable, that I ordered my products off the internet. There are to many load girls at the cosmetic counter. Crowded isles, but great buys. And try to find a cashier, that's a joke. They need more cash registers.
penalized for making payment early
I was charged a late fee for paying my bill to early 5/2/17 on Belk's website. They did remove the late fee when I called them but are making me pay $40 more on this months billing cycle which is crazy because they said they could not adjust that. I will never shop at Belk's again once I pay off this credit card. Who ever heard of a company penalizing you for making a payment early? If this shows up on my credit, I will be seeking an attorney.

I was in store 0106 Lagrange Georgia on 5-31.in the petite section sale associate Tracy walked by several times she even put items on the rack beside me and NEVER said a word I picked up two pair of shorts to try on I went toward the fitting room and stood but Tracy and the other young lady working with her we're having a personal conversation so I went into the fitting so I was in line to check out the other young lady had a customer and Tracy was on the phone I could hear her Conversation about her bills so finally she gets off the phone and rings me up still not speaking or asking if I found everything so when she gave me my total I questioned the price of one pair of shorts that rung up 29.99 and the other12.59. She immediately asked me what price are they supposed to be I said 12.59 like the other pair she said oh no. I left the Petite counter and went over to the juniors were Diadre was nice I had picked up another pair that I thought was on sale but wasn't and it came off of the same rack and it had several there so I just got a refund on one pair of shorts.I called the store and spoke with the manager on duty and this is Why I am Complaining he gave me nothing but Excuses as to why the shorts were not priced right WHAT ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE.I ask for his name twice and I didn't catch it but he was on duty last night at 8 .I had to travel from Columbus to Belk because we don't have one in our city just to get treated badly .
order cancelled & customer service problem
I had placed an order on May 20th on the belk website for 3 items and received an email stating that my order was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. I called the customer service agent right away and they had told me because my purchase was made from an unknown IP address possibly because I was outside the United States. I am making the purchase from Puerto Rico where I have lived for the last four years and never had a problem placing an order when shopping. I was getting it shipped within the United States to Mississippi and the credit card used was not even a foreign one- Chase Visa credit card. The whole process seemed frustrating since you are the first website to make such a claim when placing an order. To further frustrate the customer service agent that I spoke with just now was very slow and we spent 15 minutes on the phone attempting to re-input all my information to place the order. I hope to hear from you soon regarding my ordering problem.
I am not surprised that Belk is filling for bankruptcy Belk has a horrible customer service. Belk would be better off not even paying the poor customer representatives that answer the calls because they do absolutely nothing. The customer service rep just repeatedly saying: “I am sorry” and then laughing at us poor customers. I placed the order, never got the package but was promptly billed for it. When called the customer service, Samantha the customer service supervisor said that she is sorry but I have to pay the bill even though I never received the item. Have you ever heard of such nonsense? Unbelievable.
store condition
I am a huge Belk fan and shop in the Durham location the most. I went to shop today and could not believe the condition of the store. Clothes are in piles on many diplay tables, on the floor under most of the hanging racks. Women's dressing rooms were full of clothes on every hook and chair. Most customer service stations were unattended with a sign to find another one to help you. I feel certain this store did not become in this condition in a day or two. Very surprised and disappointed.

On Sunday, April 30th I shopped at the store in Orangeburg, SC. I had a $30 off $100 purchase. I spent well over an hour finding items that met the coupon criteria. I checked the prices on the scanner located in the store. When I go to check out, I'm told I'm $4 short of the total, so I go pick out a pair of earrings that are, according to a sign on top of the jewelry display, on sale, 30% off. I take them back to add to my order, you know, to reach my $100. Cashier says they are clearance and won't count towards my total. I go back and get a different pair of earrings. That worked. Now my grand total is $134! Because one of the tops I purchased was a Doorbuster. I scanned that item and the price on the scanner was different that the price the cashier got. I paid and left, but next time I will leave it all sitting at the counter. Your coupons, and then the terrible accuracy of pricing makes it virtually impossible to take advantage of the coupon. JC Penney coupons are SOOOOO easy to use. And the Belk in Orangeburg is filthy!

Hi, 1st i would like to say, me and wife shop here regular ok for us and our boys.And on special occasions i shop here for my wife.last year for her birthday i bought herr a MK pruse.well on the 4/29/17 i decided to go to the store to purchase her a gift, me and my lil boys.the line so long in puse department.i was looking i was ask help but I'm liokibg right tell see what want.i wasn't dress in a suit nor i tie.i had on around the house clothes .ask to see a few pruses and it was like they look at me like i was wasting there time.i found one i like and wanted, so the young lady got it and took it to the counter for me to check out.when i got to the counter this older white lady looked me grab the tag and ask me do i know much the pruse cost.i told yes i do.ti felt this so disrespectful to me.like i was in the wrong department and couldn't afford the pruse.when she decided to check me out i told her i dont want it.but a lady in the store behind me said wow i cant believe she said that and others to you.so the told the nearest store was Tupelo.But it was a gift for my on Sunday.As i was leaving the same lady that in line stop me and said, i know you want the pruse for Sunday let someone get and go to another counter and check out so thats what i did.so the young lady who got the pruse for saw me over there and ask what happened cause heard i had problem in the department.so i ask for a manager she td her happen and she did nothing.this was at the belk in Columbus Mississippi

Today I went into Belk with my fiancé to look for some clothes to him. He chose two pair of shorts to go try on so we entered the 'Fitting Room'. He went into one of the changing bays and I sat by the mirror that is for people to come out and use. After deciding that we were going to get the shorts we both walked out of the 'Fitting Room' where another customer yelled to the employees, "is this the males changing room" and they replied "yes!". So I turned around and looked up at the sign which said, "Fitting Room"... not women or men's. No gender specification was anywhere to be found. So I explained that I was just sitting outside of the door so my fiancé can show me what he tries on. An older lady who was an employee then made a scene by calling me out and saying "some men feel uncomfortable with other women in there! That's why we don't allow women to be in there." At this point people were gathered around listening to this employee raise her voice at me because I walked into the fitting room and sat there for two minutes. I was extremely humiliated. The lady went on to say more things so we just put our item on the table and left. I will never shop her again.
store manager not giving me gift card
I quit working as a part time associate at Belk before Christmas in 2016. I continue to shop at Belk. I got up this morning to go to the Charity sale to buy some Lily Pulitzer items since they would be 20 off. I bought my charity day ticket and went to the other door to get my gift card since I got there at 6:05. The store manager Beth was handing out gift cards to people in line. I got in line and showed her my Charity Day 5.00 ticket and she looked at me and said I couldn't have one, a gift card. I said I don't work here and she just smiled. Needless to say I will call Raleigh if I want something or go to the Coastal Grand store but I won't support that store again!

I bought 186 dollars worth make up from clinique inside your store that sale went great so I returned to buy a concealer & mascara the lady was extremely rude I didn't know what color to buy I ask her for samples to see she claimed they didn't have none i ask her twice to help find the rite color she then insisted I buy what she thought was the color & she said if not I could return it well she was on her phone texting or playing the whole time so she never tried to help me so I bought what I thought was my color & mascara OH MY GOD SHE sold me the mascara they let people try on I got home realized what the lady done & immidently returned she was even ruder she told me if I had a problem take it up with corporate &refused to swap the mascara she was having a bad day & took her anger out on me 100% I love belk & clinique but this experience makes me want to go else where
treatment of a customer

Witnessed a confrontation between two customers. One customer evidently thought she had preferential treatment from store mgr Mr. Tyler. She physically tore through a dressing room cubicle after the other customer because she overheard her say a curse word.She physically pushed the other customer's door open and begin screaming at her. This woman went out into the store screaming for Tyler and demanding the other customer be removed from Belk because she was a frequent shopper that spent LOTS of money. Guess what? Belk staff handled this so poorly! Police called. Belk Asst Manager had Police escort the attacked customer out of store. This woman had another woman and a child with her. The "frequent customer" caused a unbelievable scene demanding the other customer be forced out. The customer she attacked stayed in the dressing room and continued with her child. Other customer that was attacked needs to sue ALL of Belk! I'll testify! I really hope you guys rectify this mess. PS after that, we didn't buy anything but the woman they escorted out did.
store problems
Every time I come to shop it is extremely hot in the store that I start to sweat. This company makes so much money and they can't fix the air conditioning to work. Especially since we are in the south with the hot springs and summers we have. I have mentioned to managers about how hot it is and they don't seem to care. I may never return to this store.
bad customer service
Had to wait 60 days for warranty ring sizing, waited took my ring to store was sent out 3/14/17, no body called me ever, I called to check on it 2 weeks later was sent back to store in sized because paper work was done in correct by store, called today 4/13/17 was told it would take a month for sizing and worried they have 60 days limit on items, no help just telling me to keep calling back, poor service and this is my wedding ring which was blessed by Rev. May not be important to them, but it's very important to me, very unhappy with my service, I do shop here and have belk credit card, very unsatisfied

Apparently something significant occured between this young lady and a "friend." I understand she may have been upset but there are 2 sides to every story. She allegedly works for your company. If this is to be true, I will never visit this store knowing there are very unprofessional people who are employed there. I will let me friends know that such a rude individual who represents your company works there and it's okay to act such way. This makes the company look bad. If law enforcement is involved, then let law enforcement do their job. In addition the perpetrator was taken into custody for driving under suspension and breach of peace, nothing in reference to a stolen car. If this individual does not work for your company, I apolgize for using your time.

Ouida Brumfield, an employee of Belk in McComb Mississippi, insulted my mother who is a senior citizen. My mother asked why didn't they have polo dresses in the misses section like they did in the other belk stores. She told my mother that she can go and look somewhere else if she didn't like it. My mother then asked her who did she think she was talking to and she then read my mother's name off of her credit card. She was very rude and also told her that she can tell the manager and that she didn't care! My mother has high blood pressure and did not deserve the verbal abuse that she received from this lady! Now her pressure is up and she is very upset!
not allowing coupons to work with "bonus buys"
I went to Belk on April 1, 2017 with my grandmother. She paid for everything since she wanted to give her dear broke granddaughter a fun day. She spent well around 130 dollars. She had 3 coupons and not a single one worked because there were too many bonus buys. I think that is absurd. Some of the bonus buys aren't even that much of a buy! If someone spends well over $100 and they have coupons the coupons should work. I'm sorry that practically everything you sell is a "bonus buy", but really would it kill your company to allow my grandma's $10 off $20 coupon to work on a $130 purchase? Your employees are great and I truly do enjoy interacting with them, but I don't appreciate not a single coupon working. I don't see myself shopping here often in the near future unless this is changed. Have a nice day!
