Mixed Experiences with thredUP, Inc
As an expert in the category of the reviewed business, thredUP, Inc., I've delved into various customer reviews to provide you with a comprehensive meta-review. The feedback is quite diverse, ranging from positive experiences like receiving excellent quality items promptly to negative encounters such as issues with lost clothing and low payouts. It's evident that thredUP has both satisfied and dissatisfied customers. While some praise the quality of items received and the fast shipping, others express concerns about lost packages, low payouts, and questionable business practices. It's essential for potential customers to weigh these mixed reviews carefully before engaging with thredUP. Remember, every individual's experience may vary, so proceed with caution and consider all aspects before making a decision.
Collaborative Consumption is a Good Thing
I just ordered my third Clean Out bag from Thred UP. My first bag, filled mostly with women's clothes and shoes, netted me over $50--a pleasant surprise. In the past, I've passed clothing down or sent it to Goodwill. ThredUP makes it clear they only accept high-quality, gently used items, so some of our stuff still goes to friends' kids and Goodwill, but now I have a way to recoup some money spent on more costly items that we ended up not using. I like that! We have three kids and I bought most of their summer and fall clothes from ThredUP this year. It just makes good sense not to spend money we don't have on new kids clothes that will be outgrown in a matter of months. I especially like that I can dress our kids in the high-quality brands I like without spending a small fortune.
new to you
Thredup is a phenomenal site. In terms of shopping on the site, the site is easy to navigate and you can search for items by brand, size, color, and other specifications. Items are shipped quickly and arrive with tags on them so it really feels like you are shopping for "new" items. Love that they even carry maternity clothing now, as it is so pricey to buy that type of clothing at regular stores. Return process is also easy too (and free).
In terms of sending in clothing to thredup for sale/credit, that is also an easy process too. Sometimes I feel like the credit I get back is a bit low, but I always end up using the credit in conjunction with 20% off and free shipping promos, so it all evens out.
I love this site and honestly enjoy the convenience of shopping from my home computer.

Very happy
My co worker told me about ThredUp and showed me some adorable dresses that she purchased for her granddaughter- all under $10! I have ordered clothing twice now and am very happy with my purchases. I bought clothes for both my 6 year old son and 2 year old daughter and the clothes are in very good condition. I also bought 4 pairs of shoes for myself and I was actually amazed at the quality and condition. I love the Tory Burch flats! I used my 40% off for my first order, so all of the kids clothes were under 5 bucks each! Nice stuff like a Gap dress for my daughter and Gymboree sweater for my son. Stocking up on winter items now, since the deals are great. I also got a like new Gap winter coat for $15.99 for my son among many other items! If you buy from them they will also email you a 10%off coupon for your next order! You can also earn free shipping which I did almost immediately! :)
The best selling web of all time
I would give them infinity amount of stars if I only could, this website is go to website is you want to buy or sell secondhand items. I have done both I bought few things and each of them was in a great as described condition I also sold and I am still selling because they pay outright fair price I would say very fair more they pay more then material world ( the material world website should be shot down because they pay almost nothing) crossroads is paying more then material world but less then thredup. Consigning with thredup is a pleasure they pay way more the % amount for sold item is way higher then the The Real Real ( which pays less unless you reach 10,000 in sales but still less then Thredup. I can't thank you enough for a great customer service, amazing customer services, very helpful and you don't have to follow up in order to get your issue resolved. Thank you all for a great customer service
Very Pleased
Considering the fact that Thredup pays to ship my clothes to them and that they take on the risk and overhead costs associated with selling the clothes, I am very pleased with what I received for my bag of clothing. I think anybody who understands the financial aspects of retail should be pleased. Also, Thredup shares on their site their payout structure. I did my homework, so I knew what to expect. I didn't send anything I knew they wouldn't take and expected, as they stated on their site, they would take about half, which they about did. I used my credit to buy a couple things I would never have bought new (like some beautiful Cole-Haan shoes that were more comfortable than any shoes I've ever owned!). I've ordered from them 3 times and overall, been very happy. One item was not quite the condition I'd expected, but customer service was incredible. I am addicted now and have full bag ready to ship again!
Excellent experiences!
I've had a really positive experience with ThredUp so far. I've made three purchases. Although I've always sent at least one thing back, it's been because I haven't liked the way it fit or looked on me, and that's how I typically am when I shop. I think the things I've purchased have been described correctly, and the pictures are good representations of what they actually are. I also sent in a bag of clothes. I really did not expect much, I was just hoping to get a few dollars of credit because I know I'd spend it on the website. They took some things I wasn't sure if they would, and they didn't take other things I was sure they would take. So that's hit or miss, but to me, it really didn't matter. I wish I was better at knowing what they'd take so that I didn't cost them money. I'm a consignment shopper for the low prices, but also to reduce waste and consumption. ThredUp really fits my consignment shopping values, and I hope to keep supporting the company.
Great affordable fashion for my son and for me!
We're both a little hard to fit and have strong preferences in clothing, so we love being able to go online and get things that are perfect for us without endless hours of searching, trying on, finding something great and then not seeing it in the right size, or getting sticker shock. Several times a year, we get his seasonal wardrobe--he's 8, but just 4 feet tall and 45 lbs. I know the brands and styles that will fit him, and he can pick and choose among items I've put in the cart from the comfort of the couch. And I've packed for vacations or business trips in different climates from the women's section easily, because getting great quality clothing from all over the country means I don't have to be limited to Seattle's current styles and what's in stores for the weather. This might be true of all online apparel shopping, but with ThredUp I can get four or five great pieces for what I'd spend on one elsewhere. Better cost than Amazon, better quality than eBay, and fantastic reliable service. ?
Long time customer, and always a great experience!
I have been buying my clothes from them for a probably three or more years, and I was hooked from the first purchase.
I love buying second hand, and I have been going to consignments shops for quite a while now. At first I felt a bit apprehensive about buying second hand online, but I figured why not try it. Thred Up has never let me down since. Now all of my clothes come from them. This is the best way to buy second hand clothes!
Give Thred Up credit when its due, especially since this is second hand clothing and they have a high volume of clothing to sort through:
The clothes won't be always perfect, so if you don't like second hand clothes then don't buy second hand. If something isn't what you thought then send it back and try something else. You can return it with free shipping and get full store credit, it is a very easy process to return with them and when you do you can let them know exactly why you returned it. So if something was wrong then they will now know (they are only human). *All that being said, I have never had a problem with things being damaged or not accurate to the condition description.*
They might miss a detail here or there, but I honestly don't see it happen often despite me being on their site all the time. Just make sure you read full description and *look at the pictures closely!Sometimes it can be hard to see details of the clothes sometimes, so just canvass the item thoroughly.
Quality Clothes for a Great Price
I might be one of the lucky ones, but I've had no problem with my thredUP experience. My shopping experience has been great. I'm already a picky shopper so shopping online isn't any different. I'll look through pages and pages of inventory every single day before choosing what to buy. It's great that there are always new items showing up.
So far I've ordered 7 different items on 3 different orders; 3 tops, 1 jacket, 1 skirt, and 2 pairs of shoes. The boxes come within a week or two, the items are folded neatly and even shoes are safely wrapped in extra bubble wrap. The clothes I received were exactly as pictured and I would try them on immediately to see how they fit. I know how inconsistent sizing can be across different brands, so paying attention to the measurements is a little more helpful. Everything fit as expected.
I've returned 1 item because I didn't think it looked that great on me. I used the same box and the free return label it comes with, and dropped it off at the post office. Easy. My credit was processed within the month and I had no problems applying my credit immediately to more purchases.
I'm extremely pleased with all the items I bought and have gotten compliments on all of them! I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the clothes and can definitely say that they were a steal. I spent less on a whole outfit than I have on a new top or jacket at the mall.
I will say it's all about being picky in your purchases, but if your patient enough to file through their inventory, you will stumble upon great finds for a bargain!
Love shopping here
I have not been disappointed yet with my shopping experience with Thredup. I being a woman know sizes differ by brand and style so admittedly I buy stuff fully expecting some stuff might not fit me the way I desire, thus knowingly I may have to return. I always use the free shipping for store credit and just buy something different. My returns are processed quickly and I have not had any issues with my returns. I am now to the point I think most of wardrobe is from Thredup. LOL I also tend use the shopping option of NWT or nearly new so everything I purchase is in great condition. I have even shopped on here for clothes for my 7 and 5 year old grandchildren with much satisfaction.
I have only sold to them once. I will consider it a learning experience. While the ease of selling to them is wonderful, I was very disappointed with my pay out. They bought 4 clothing items from me; no designer labels, 2 items (Levi jeans and a top from Khols) had only wore once and bought just months before I sent to them. I was paid $2.00 for the 4 items after their fees. I also sold them a Coach purse which the selling and payment method on that was a bit confusing but I figured it out. My total payout was just about $62.00 after their fees. While I was not disappointed with my payout, I will not be selling to them again. This due to I don't have designer labels to sell each time to help bring my payout up, I have several consignment option in the area I live and the whole process of selling to Thredup took about 4-5 months to complete. That time is from requesting clean out bag to payout received.
I still highly recommend Thredup for shopping just not selling. I find many AWESOME deals here and who doesn't love that!

I really enjoy ordering from this site, but recently found it impossible to talk with someone in customer service about a delivery sent to the wrong address. Theres no chat and no phone number, just the usual canned FAQs.
I would not recommend buying or selling with Thred Up. There is absolutely no way to get in touch with them. A company must have a customer service phone number or answer chat questions to have repeat customers. I was a first-time customer who ordered about 10 pieces of clothes, six of which did not fit because they weren't true to size(probably from laundering). I tried to contact them with a simple question about returns but could not communicate in any way. I did not know they charged a $3 restocking fee on each item. If you return items, you will only get a fraction of what you purchased the items for. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
I placed a rather large order recently, it shipped from 2 locations, the smaller one arrived just fine, with 2 items, the larger one with over $200 of product shows as delivered but never arrived. When you look at the photos from both deliveries they are the exact same picture. I have tried to start a trace with FedEx, they won't talk to me because I am not the shipper. I have tried MULTIPLE times to reach ThredUp through their chat app, I never get connected to a love person. I've sent multiple emails, even put a review on Google Play. I have not heard a single thing from them. It may not be a lot of money to them, but I can't afford to throw away $200. I am so disgusting I will ne er buy from them again.
This company's service and consignment process is going downhill fast. Six months ago, it took at least three months to get a cleanout kit processed and paid out. Now, I have been waiting almost seven months for my last bag to be processed. Thredup is now charging for cleanout kits to be sent in to them even though they make money off of the items they do not consign by then selling them as outlet items, in bulk bundles, and on their *** profile. They have removed their online chat, say that it takes up to 14 days to get a response, and repeatedly invite customers to direct message them on Instagram but then do not respond there either. They need to pause or stop receiving cleanout kits altogether and focus their time and energy into the delayed packages that customers have already been waiting on for more than half a year! Instead, we get so many promotional emails and advertisements to make purchases and not a single actual reply to our inquiries. Please investigate this company!
Sent in 2 full boxes weight at almost the *** they allow of 30 lbs of nice some brand new items with tags on them to sell to thred up for consignment in July of 2022 and every time I pull my account up they push back the date to inventory my items and list them on my thred up account. Now there telling me March of 2023. When *** gets here it will be pushed back AGAIN just like every previous month in the past. So they have had my clothes now 7 months and nothing credit to my account. This sounds like a scam at this point so Im warning people so I at least save someone else from being scammed
I sent in Clean-Out Kits to Thred-Up in September
I sent in Clean-Out Kits to Thred-Up in September. The bags have still not been processed. I have contacted customer service many times, and the estimated processing date gets pushed back every time. After sitting in the bags for this long, the clothes will likely not even be in good, clean condition anymore. Unacceptable. If they had been honest about what the processing times would have been, I would never have sent the items to Thred-Up.

I placed an order with ThredUp and it was shipped all over the country through *** and was extremely late (30 days from purchase date). I had ordered something I needed by a certain date. ThredUp would only offer me 20% off of my order and free shipping on a future order. This does not seem acceptable to me as a regular customer- a few days late is one thing, but 30 days? I would think they would do more to keep their customers. I cannot recommend ordering from them any longer.
Thredup has lazy descriptions
Thredup has lazy descriptions. I bought some jeans described as straight leg size 24, what arrived was skinny leg 24 petite jeans. There was a literal tag on the inside that said what the jeans were. How could thredup miss that? Except for because they are lazy. All my purchases from thredup has been pretty good before that besides them charging the same amount for used walmart pants as the new. Also, there is not a place to put direct feed back on the thredup site. I son't know how they handle inaccurate descriptions but unless they fix this I will not be buying again from thredup or recommending them.
I've bought items several times from thredup
I've bought items several times from thredup. Sometimes it is great and I'll get a quality item, as described, and in great condition. More recently, I've ended up throwing some items away or throwing them in my donation pile because the return price is not worth it. On my most recent order, the item was not AT ALL as described. It was deemed "excellent" condition (on the website: "Practically new, shows no obvious signs of being worn or washed") and it was not even close to that. The interior had a hole in the built-in bra (which was also not mentioned in the description and I would not have purchased the shirt if it had been) and the back had two big, obvious grease stains. How is that in excellent condition? Very frustrating when the measurements and quality do not match the actual item. If they can't handle what's coming in, they should stop accepting trade-ins until they can catch up. They should definitely not be accepting stained items and try to resell them with lies.

Time and time again, the items I order from ThredUp are treated with some kind of strong-smelling chemical that is impossible to get out. The chemical is intense and makes me very sick. I cannot wear the items that are treated with it. It's the same chemical, every time. It smells exactly the same. I have washed certain items multiple times, put them outside to air in the sun, etc. and for many items, the odor NEVER comes out. Even after repeated treatments with detergents, vinegar, borax, baking soda, and steam cleaning. Of course, after washing this many times, the items cannot be returned. I have contacted ThredUp several times about this and each time they say that they do not treat their clothing with anything. How is this possible? It happens with every order. Please, ThredUp, come clean. First, admit you treat the clothes with something, and then, please stop using whatever it is. It is unbearable! Steam-cleaning all items should be the ONLY treatment and is a necessary step to take in this business. Steam cleaning will help the garments look nice in your product images (as often items in your images appear very wrinkled and disheveled), as well as sanitize and deodorize them. Besides this, what is a MAJOR issue for me, I have had a positive experience with ThredUp as a buyer. Please, figure out this chemical odor issue, as it is impossible to deal with. Thank you.
If I could give 0 stars, I would
If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have been buying clothes from this company for a while now. The buying process is fine, I've had no problem with it. Selling on the other hand, absolutely appalling. I sent this company a HUGE box of clothes. Things like Lululemon leggings and tanks, pants from a local boutique that were new with tags, a few quarter zip sweatshirts that go for probably $60 each, amongst other things I have seen being sold on their app or I know are things people will most likely want to buy. After the 4 months it took to process the kit, I was left with 23 ITEMS listed to my account - I sent probably double or triple that. None of the items they processed were really items that were actually worth something. My payout for most items is about a dollar or two. After contacting customer support, I got nowhere. They told me that they will send people's clothes to their recycling program if they are not up to their standards, or if there is an overstock of that item. To be clear, that means that if you send a pair of Lululemon leggings to them but they "have too many", they will literally recycle your $120 pair of leggings, or your brand new pair of $58 pants you never wore, etcetera. I understand that this is a huge warehouse, but tabs should be kept on ALL ITEMS IN CLEAN OUT KITS. Seriously, how can a company recycle a pair of $120 leggings in amazing condition? In my case, I actually lost money by sending my clothes to this company - unfortunately. I know now to either take them to my local consignment shop, or to take the time to list them on a different platform. Again, if you are thinking about buying from this company - do so! The buying and returning process has been seamless for me. Selling though, I would never do it again. I wish I had read the selling reviews before I sent my clothes, because people have said all of the things I am also thinking and saying.

I sent them a lot of clothes that were acceptable/never worn and they took some that were listed as unacceptable with the inside tags ripped off the clothing ? and then tried to sell those. They also described the items they were selling with bizarre descriptions that did not match the clothing article. It was really rediculous I wont send them anything ever again (a waste of my time and energy)
Their app is impossible to log on to mostly on the weekends when they have big sales
Their app is impossible to log on to mostly on the weekends when they have big sales. Then Monday comes and it opens. As well as having items I purchased don't come and they say only if you go to "sell" that they reimburse you although I *** proof of that through my bank no store credit or cash. Much less any firm of email or notification that my item wasn't coming. The qualify has gone down hill. I've bought a pair of leggings that someone head cut the bottoms off and didn't even hem them! They use to use fex x and time deliveries were correct. Now it's a *** service( don't wanna bash another co.) But their deliveries are late, no updated times. Definitely not as good as it once was.

Money I made from selling my items
I sent ThredUP 8 of their large bags of new or never worn clothes - some with tags. When payout time came, they said they sold 29 of my items and I had made $6.61. This is a ridiculous amount of money, and it would not cover even cover one of my items. It wasn’t enough money to buy a piece of clothing from them. I spent considerable time trying to communicate with them to no avail. I got 15-20 computer generated emails from them. Their website is mostly designed for selling their clothes and not for people who sent them clothes to sell. I feel that they stole my clothes and they should be shut down.
Claimed loss: Probably at least $300
Desired outcome: More money from them and an apology

Two items not as described on the site. 1 is damaged and I am not getting responses from Threadup
Today, 04-10-2023 I contacted Thredup through their chat format. I requested assistance from their customer service rep. I needed the *** to contact the delivery company GLS to give them the security door code information. The *** texted that she did that. Therefore, delivery of my package in a timely manner was assured. Next, I requested a remedy for the future of putting a phone number with my shipping address if Thredup permitted that. The *** said it might be possible, but she would get back to me with a confirmation if so. I got on the Parcel Delivery companies site again to see the outcome. The *** from Thredup directed the company to return my package to Thredup! I have been with Thredup for many years. I am concerned that the *** falsified what she had actually accomplished in our conversation. Had she told the truth my package would arrive tomorrow. At this point, I requested from Thredup, by email, that my entire order be cancelled. Additionally, I am requesting that I receive a full refund of $113.62 as soon as possible. I find that this is a learning experience for me. I thought that Thredup valued me as a Customer. NOT THE *** AT ALL! I am looking forward to finding a Company similar to Thredup to do business with and I wiil be treated as a valued Customer. BUYER BEWARE!

I sent out my clean out kit in January and it was received 1/18/2023 the time keeps changing for it to be reviewed not to mention know if I will get any Monet for my items . The expected time now is 5/4/2023 but now I fear it will take longer . Now it appears they want to add fees for returned items , which are new terms of when I shipped out my items . At this point I want my items returns but am afraid it will also take very long and they will charge me per item . I need help In receiving my money for items received or at least be provided an option for return.
There were online ads online for Cleanout Kits everywhere in 2020
There were online ads online for Cleanout Kits everywhere in 2020. You got a bag and a free shipping label. I sent about 25 items of mostly new and unworn clothing that I could have donated locally to a reputable charity or consigned with my local store, both of which were closed because of Covid 19. I believe this was in June or July 2020. Note that I previously did this process in 2019 and had no problems. Company returned items it did not use. It also gave me access to price list. I made several hundred dollars. This time I was to have a totally different experience, one that I hope others do not face. After a few months, I contacted and asked what the status was. I was put off and told it would be a while. Asking for the items back was not an option unless you paid ThredUp. I had to call twice. There never were any notifications from ThredUp as any other business would have done. By November 11, my listings went up. About one-third of the clothes were missing. Mind you, that all of these items were clean and mostly unworn. About half of them were new. When I inquired, I was told in no uncertain terms that these were "unclean." That was untrue. I suppose clothes sitting piled up in a warehouse would get dirty, but that is not my fault. Immediately, I smelled a rat. The remaining items were all listed at $4.99 apiece. Some of these were new and cost about $80 or more! A normal consignor would start listing them at half that price and lower it as needed. The consignor would receive somewhere between 40 or 50% of the proceeds. By the time I received this, I could not access the items listed. Furthermore, attempts to contact anyone were useless. The phone number does not take regular calls. The chat never works. Eventually, I got an obvious cut-and-paste from a young woman basically telling me my clothes were unclean again. I sat and watched items sell at $4.99 and then received messages saying I made 19 cents. I could not do anything or reach anyone. Finally, I tried to close the account online. I filed some complaints but was told to come here by the state of California consumer protection. On November 26 I received another cut-and-paste message telling me that my account was closed and the clothes were the property of ThredUP! Apparently I was supposed to ask for the clothes within seven days after the listings went up, but I could not access the account to do that. There is plenty wrong here. First, this is not a consignment store. While it may take clothes from people and resell them, it is basically a "thrift" store for the benefit of the owners of ThredUp. In my case, ThredUP was taking $4.80 from each $4.99 listing. Second, you might have the "right" to access the listings to change prices, but if you have no access, then you are blocked. Then, it is too late. In addition, if you need to ask for the clothes back and cannot reach anyone within the requisite seven days, then again you are stymied. As I said before, the listed phone number is not a regular number. You have no way to speak to anyone at this company. I have never seen the Chat function work. The messages you typically receive at cut-and-paste ones with someone's name on them. I believe this to be a scam. A real consignor does not do business this way. If they want free supplies, then sat so. I filed a report with this BBB. ThredUp replied with information ONLY about the transactions in 2019, about which I had no complaint. I closed those accounts more than a year ago. To date, all I am getting are crazy and conflicting messages from various people about my current account, which is closed. I did sign on and could get online, but everything is blank. The last message asked me whether I wanted to "merge" my accounts! That is the nuttiest of all and downright laughable. Having read about bed bug transmission, a soiled pair of ladies' panties in the pocket of a purchased jacket and receipt of stained clothes, I would NEVER buy anything from this outfit. Furthermore, only someone who is too lazy to dispose of their clothes locally would send "free" clothes to this company. Let the consignor beware. Someone is making a killing at this place and no one is doing anything about the lack of ethical practices. There should be complete transparency. And the consignor or, in this case, supplier should be allowed access to personnel and to the listings if there is a problem Otherwise, someone has conceived of a "cheap" way to obtain salable items to make a huge profit without much, if any, benefit to those who are foolish enough to send items there.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I sent a clean out bag back in Nov 2022. I kept checking on when it would be processed. They kept saying that it was coming up. Finally in March 2023 they said it had processed. I sent a whole bag...they deemed only 4 items ok for sale. I hadn't had this happen before when I used them. I have sent clean out bags and bought things. I bought bags that showed up ripped and stained but the items I sent weren't good enough? I requested the rest be sent back to me. They stopped responding. So I once again requested for my items to be sent back and my account cancelled. I still haven't heard back from them. I wont be using them again. Very disappointed.
I sent in a cleanout kit to thredup with some of the items I purchased from them in the last year or so.They listed 2 of my Brahmin bags that normally would be listed at between $85 to $100 at only $37.They were listed so low because thredup misspelled Brahmin. They corrected the spelling after I notified them but failed to adjust the pricing on them. The system wouldn't allow me to correct the price any higher. Needless o say the bags immediately sold and I received $9.12 per bag. Since I paid Brahmin around $85 per bag not that long ago I feel this is absolutely unacceptable and I wish to be compensated for my loss.

I ordered items and realized that shipping was astronomical so I immediately requested that they cancel. They canceled 1 item. I had to pay $25 for the other 2. They informed me that they didnt have opportunity to process my return request before they started packing the items. Failure to read a return request on the customer service end or the shipping and is not my problem and it is a direct indicator that they are negligent in their processing of customer requests.

Desired outcome: Shut this lying company downfor good.
The service where a person can mail in items to be sold on the website
I participated in the Clean Out program. I had initially four pairs of shoes that I wanted to sale on their website. I mailed the shoes to their company. All often shoes were new. It took a long time to hear back from the company about my package. Today I received a package in the mail that contained a pair of boots that they did not accept. I was horrified at what I saw. I originally mailed off a brand-new pair of boots. I later received back that same pair but they were thrashed. They were ripped up. The boots also had scratches. How could this happen. I was like somebody literally wore my boots. The company destroyed my new shoes. I cannot even use them. I tried to contact customer service. But the representative said that is was probably a shipping issue. This is not at all possible. It was like this company did not care at all!
Claimed loss: I loss the money that I originally paid for my boots.
Desired outcome: I want a check sent directly to me to compensate for the destroyed boots. And I would like an apology.
RIGHT ON. Thred Up should be renamed THEFT UP! Lying, scamming and thieving is what they do nothing more and then they steal Seller's Payouts, refuse to pay and detract $$$ every chance they get. THIEVES! Oh and Thred UP -CEO earns over Eight Million Dollars Annual salary per year!

Ok, I've already rated this bs company..but im so infuriated I'll rate again. They are shady when it comes to giving you a decent price for your nice items and they literally take out fees every which way they can. Service fee $25.. return ohhh.. $5 item! Had new swimsuit for $88, they priced it $40 something..with a $3 payout..Absolutely absurd bs. Some items are missing, I started with some payout (not much) then down to nothing?!
I told them I want my item's sent back now, no response! I contacted the better buisness bureal. They should not be in business. They should lose their company..something should be done!
I give zero stars if I could!
Desired outcome: Have them shut down!!
CEO of Thred UP earsn over * million USD Annual Salary while he steals from you, the Seller and Payouts are fifty cents per item. He is a Thief!
Clean out kit has failed to be process
I ordered a clean out kit in April 2023. Sent my products back within the 30 day time frame that was allotted. They finally received them back at their warehouse on August 1, 2023. My process date has continued to be pushed back time and time again. My bag was set to be processed by September September turned into October and now October has turned into November 9. I can no longer track this order either. I have received absolutely no contact beyond the automated chat, but that they offer and no resolution as a result due to inability to make contact with an actual person.
Desired outcome: I would appreciate this kit be processed in a timely fashion and reimbursed/compensated for items that are in that bag
Customer service
So... Clean out bag #1 good experience (several years ago).
Clean out bag #2. Lost completely. They credited me $70. I had a pair of boots in there that were worth that alone.
Clean out bag #3. Now we are charging a Service Fee? I thought that was in their "share" of the profits. They "lost" a dress. I got $9 for it. Never worn, designer. I have had an expensive Vince sweater supposedly being returned form the buyer. It has not made it back to the warehouse in over 3 weeks.
And worst of all? There is not a phone number so you can actually talk to a person. Gee, I wonder why?
** I asked for a credit due to the necessity of having to keep watch over all my transactions. Told "sorry, nope".
Desired outcome: I would like my "service fee" refunded
Thred UP CEP earns over eight million US dollars per year in Annual Salary while he pays you pennies on the dollar for your mailed in items.
I ordered second hand clothes
I ordered a large order of secondhand clothes around the end of September. I saw on my checking account statement that ThredUp charged me twice for the order. I tried to contact ThredUp but there isn't a contact number. I would like a refund of the multiple charges to my checking account asap. If you have any questions I can be reached at [protected]
Desired outcome: There isn't an outcome because I can't get hold of ThredUp.
Thread up clean out
Ordered a clean out kit on July 25th. It was finally “processed “ on September 30th. I received an email stating that my items were now live for sale. However, the items now say “unavailable “. I emailed, tried their chat and no response. I feel like they stole about 500-600 hundred dollars worth of clothing. Chimal business that should be shut down. It’s online theft.
Desired outcome: I would like some sort of communication and monetary payment for my items that I sent in.
I’m still waiting on a bag to be processed from April.
Clothing not arriving as described or measured
I have been purchasing clothing from ThredUp for 4 years. It's hit or miss. Most of the time, items described as "Excellent" have obviously been washed, worn, and have issues (holes, threads/seams coming apart, stains). When I receive a polka dot box with my orders, I check everything out and am very liberal about what I can repair. A few times I've had...

This is my second attempt to transfer $9.72 from my ThredUp account to my PayPal debit card. I called PayPal while I was making the request , a second time, and they said it wasn't showing up on their end. I read the part about confirming my e-mail address and they said it was confirmed on their end.
Whatever the problem is, it's on your end. I had this problem last time trying to transfer funds to my PayPal account. Due to several factors, this being the straw that broke the camel's back, I won't be giving you anymore items to sell. Whether I choose to buy anything from you in the future depends on how this is handled. I made my request to have my $9.72 transferred twice and that is what I want. I shouldn't have to go to this amount of trouble receiving funds I'm owed.
And if this isn't resolved, I'll see who I can complain next to because I will not let it go until I get what I asked for.
Desired outcome: I want the money I requested to be transferred to my debit card. First and only solution

I received the following message from ThredUp - I’ve spent the morning attempting to contact this company to find out exactly what the email is in reference to with no luck. I have no idea who they are or what information they have on me and how they obtained my email address. The fact that the message began with “hey there” instead of my name is a concern.

Disappointing Experience with thredUP: Hidden Fees, Slow Processing, and Poor Payouts
So, I had a chat with the customer service team at thredUP this morning and let me tell you, it was a bit of a hassle. I had to wait for 4 hours just to get connected with someone. But when I finally got through, I had some concerns that I wanted to address.
Firstly, I was not happy about the hidden per item fee for shipping. I mean, come on, just be honest about it! I understand that there are overhead costs, but don't try to fool your customers. And to make matters worse, I was paid well for the first box of items I sent in, but after that, the payout was just pennies. So, I would advise you to be cautious if you decide to use this site.
But that's not all. I also had a question about the facility where my bag was processed. I wanted to know if it was processed at facility bag #b2h3nkd4cj. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a straight answer. The customer service representative told me that they did not have control over which facility my bag was sent to. Apparently, Phoenix is in need of inventory, so they are sending a lot of bags that way. But if they are so desperate for inventory, they should consider processing bags faster. It took them 2 weeks past the processing date to get my bag done, and I was paid miserably for NWT items. And to top it all off, no one bothered to email me my payout was complete.
And don't even get me started on the $2 per item "SHIPPING" charge when ordering jewelry. I mean, seriously? I ship packages for a living, and I know for a fact that it doesn't cost an additional $2 to ship packages. I understand that thredUP needs to apply certain fees to their services to keep their prices low, but they should be honest about it. If they need to charge higher fees, then just be upfront about it.
Overall, I was pretty disappointed with my experience with thredUP. I feel like my concerns were not addressed, and I was left feeling frustrated and annoyed. I will be posting some online feedback in regards to the excess shipping, and I hope that thredUP takes my feedback into consideration.
ThredUP: Not as Charitable as They Seem - A Review of Their Business Practices
Review:
Written 03. 23. 18
So, I thought ThredUP was all about being charitable and eco-friendly, but it seems like they're just in it for the money. I sent in 14 items and only got paid $11.86 for six of them. But when I checked their website, those six items were listed for over $300! That means ThredUP got $289 for doing basically nothing. When I complained to customer service, they just kept sending me the same info over and over again. They said I'd get a percentage of the selling price, but that's not what the website or the documentation said. It's like they're trying to trick people into giving them their clothes for nothing. And what about the charity aspect? They say they donate clothes, but how do we know they're not selling them for profit? It all seems a bit shady to me. I don't think ThredUP really cares about their customers or the environment. They just want to make a quick buck.
Written 03. 27. 18
So, the VP of Marketing at ThredUP asked me how they could improve their business. Well, let me tell you. I sent in 22 items and only got paid $11.86 for 11 of them. That's less than a dollar per item! How is that fair? And when I checked the website, I saw that some of my items were listed for hundreds of dollars. That means ThredUP is making a huge profit off of my clothes, while I get next to nothing. It's like they're taking advantage of people who want to be eco-friendly and donate their clothes. And don't even get me started on the charity aspect. How do we know they're really donating the clothes and not just selling them for profit? It all seems a bit fishy to me. ThredUP needs to be more transparent and fair with their customers.
Thred Up Review: Inconsistent Payouts and Unreliable Itemization
I've been using Thred Up for a few years now and have sent in three bags of clothes. The first time I sent in a bag, they itemized each item and told me how much I got for each one. It wasn't a lot, but I appreciated knowing what I got per item. However, the second time I sent in a bag, they stopped doing that, which annoyed me. I had to email them to ask for the itemization amounts, and they eventually complied. But I became wary that it would be easier for them to give next to nothing for your items, and unless you kept track of what you sent in, items they don't accept just "disappear" or are "donated" unless you send in the card to keep track of your items and pay to have the things returned. After reading other reviews, I wonder if they even donate all the items or end up selling them in other ways.
With my third bag, they only accepted a third of what I sent, and they never said "these were the things we couldn't take." One of the things they didn't accept was a Gymboree brand knit outfit with the tag still attached, in perfect condition. Everything I send is in very good condition and brand name. They have never seemed consistent in their payouts or what they accept. Some of the things I see for sale are cheap and worn-looking Target brand or Old Navy, for example, and they ask near to the price you would pay for the item new. Yet then they won't accept better brand named things in almost new condition?
Also, they put a BCBG dress of mine on consignment for around $50, it didn't sell, and so they kept it (I didn't want to pay the $14 fee to get the item back). Couldn't they have just put it into the normal "pool" of clothes and sell it like that and just credit me? I ended up just "losing" that item.
I clicked on the link in my "processed items" email of each thing they accepted this third time around to see what they were selling it for. Of what they accepted, it added up to be $106.41. I got $21.18 for it all, which is almost 20%. I also think that when they tag things with the "Tiny Flaw" asterisk, the majority of the time it's so they can have an excuse to rip off the seller by giving them next to nothing for their stuff. But then they still sell the item at a high price, getting a very large profit margin on it. If they only want high-end brands with tags attached, they shouldn't advertise as a consignment/second-hand company.
While I have bought a few items from them when it's a good deal, I still feel pretty guilty about it, knowing how they give sellers hardly what they deserve. I do know that I'm done selling on Thred Up; I just don't trust it, and I feel like they truly take advantage of people.
From now on, I will bring my clothes to our local consignment shop, where I get 40% of the sale (once sold), and I know it's helping a local business. While it's harder than throwing clothes into a bag and giving it to the mailman, I at least know I'm not getting ripped off.
I hope most people will catch on to the scam they seem to be running, and they will at least start crediting people honestly.
Totally agree 100%. Not the same company that I started doing business with. The last year has been an eye opener with extra fees, lack of transparency and deceitful practices. Not good for sellers anymore. So if potential sellers become aware of exactly how little they will receive on quality items and how thred up changes the listings after receiving then maybe they won’t have the inventory to continue with these deceitful practices.
Thredup Review: Disappointing Clothes, Inconsistent Sizes, and Unfriendly Return Policy
So, I recently tried out Thredup and let me tell you, it was not a good experience. I wanted to share my thoughts so that others can avoid the same mistakes I made.
Before I even made a purchase, I checked out their return policy. It states that you have 14 days to return an item, but there is a $1.99 restocking fee and the original shipping charge is not refunded. I wasn't thrilled about the restocking fee, but I decided to give it a try anyway.
The first issue I encountered was when I received my order confirmation and noticed that one of the items was final sale. I was never informed of this during the purchase process, so I was a bit annoyed. However, I decided to keep the dress anyway since it was only $30.
When the package arrived, I was hit with a strong smell of Febreeze. I personally don't like the smell of Febreeze, so this was a big turn-off for me. The clothes themselves were also disappointing. They were advertised as "just like new, barely worn," but they were actually old and stretched out. The hems and cuffs were wavy and the clothes had lost their shape. It was clear that these were clothes that had been worn and then sent to Thredup.
To make matters worse, the sizes were all over the place. I ordered from brands that I knew and trusted, but the clothes were either too small or too big. One dress was so small that I couldn't even get it over my shoulders.
When I decided to return the items, I was hit with another surprise. If I wanted a refund, I would have to pay for the return shipping myself. However, if I accepted a merchandise credit, they would provide a return label. This felt like a sneaky move to me, and it was the final straw.
Overall, I would not recommend Thredup. The clothes were not as advertised, the sizes were inconsistent, and the return policy was not customer-friendly. Save yourself the trouble and shop elsewhere.
Mixed Experience with Thred Up: Great for Selling, Frustrating for Buying
I've been using Thred Up for a while now, both as a seller and a buyer. I've sold a ton of clothes to them, and while I don't always get a lot of money for my items, I'm okay with it because I was going to get rid of them anyway. Plus, I understand that they need to make a profit. I don't think I would have made much more selling them to a local resell store, so I'm happy with what I get.
However, my experience as a buyer has been less than stellar. I had saved up over $90 in store credit, and I was excited to finally use it to buy some maternity clothes. But right before I was going to make my purchase, they took half of my credit and emailed me a gift card from some unknown company. I was pretty upset about it, but I eventually found the email and used the gift card.
Later on, I earned another $30 in store credit and decided to use it to buy some more clothes. I used a promo code and my store credit, but when I went to check out, it forced me to choose a shipping method even though I was spending more than $75 and should have qualified for free shipping. I picked the bundle option, hoping to get a refund on the shipping cost.
Then, I tried to use another promo code and my gift card, but I couldn't find a place to apply the gift card during the checkout process. I looked carefully, but I accidentally placed my order without applying the gift card. I tried to cancel my order, but Thred Up said they process orders immediately and there was a good chance I wouldn't be able to cancel it. I emailed customer support, but they said it would take 2-5 business days to respond. By then, my order would probably already be processed.
It's frustrating because Thred Up has a rewards points program where you're supposed to get 500 points for every clean out bag you send them, but I've sent at least 5 bags and haven't received any points. It seems like they're betting on people being happy with their clothes or feeling good about helping the environment, but they're not being honest or transparent about their business practices.
Overall, I think Thred Up is a great idea in theory, but their execution leaves a lot to be desired. As a seller, I'm happy to get rid of my clothes and make a little bit of money, but as a buyer, I've had a lot of issues with their website and customer service. I hope they can improve their processes and communication in the future.
