Unprofessional
I am pregnant and went to the hospital to get my paperwork filled out for my job. The nurse practitioner Thora Francois ripped up my paperwork in my face. As i went into the garbage to get my paperwork she ripped it up some more and then called police on me. I was forced to go to the emergency room where I now have to pay 100 dollars when all she had to do was give me my paperwork in the first place. No one from patient relations has responded. I’m beyond upset and satisfied with the service of brookdale hospital
Desired outcome: Refunded and some disciplinary action against the doctor
Poor quality of care/professionalism
This is the worst experience in any medical facility ever. My loved one went in cardiac arrest on 3/31/23 at home, paramedics arrived and gave CPR and intubated him, He was rushed to ER via ambulance and received the absolute worst care.
Upon entering the ER, I was disgusted. There were patients EVERYWHERE. On stretchers against the walls, stab victim sitting around, in rooms...I mean absolute zero privacy. My loved one was placed on a ventilator. When we walked over to where he was, the curtain was not even drawn, he was shaking and jerking. We stood there for about 10 minutes looking around for staff. When Dr finally came and questions were being asked, no proper answers were given, instead they let us know that they just changed shift and they were unable to respond at the moment, give them a minute, the Asian dr., was aggressive and the language barrier was TERRIBLE. The drip that was supposed to be going in IV was EMPTY. Who knows how long that was in need of changing. They then stated that my loved one was having seizures and the medication that was empty was for controlling them. It was obvious that he was not being cared for properly. The nurse then comes in and change the seizure medication and my loved one immediately stopped seizing. I was further disgusted because of the nature of the situation. loss of oxygen from cardiac arrest and now he's seizing with an empty IV drip.
They stated that CT scan and MRI were going to be performed and he was going to be transferred to CCU or ICU once space became available.
Once he was transferred to the 7th floor of Brookdale, CCU unit we were informed that visit were 2-3 and 5-6 daily. I could not understand this. Critical patients are only allowed 2 hours of visiting per day?
An initial CT scan was completed by 4/1/23 and we were given results. Still on ventilator, Dr said they were trying to understand why cardiac arrest occurred and a MRI was ordered for 4/3/23. They stated that my loved one's PCP and Cardiologist @ NYU would be contacted , they also stated that a Neurologist would be in to see him that day as well. This was NEVER done, PCP was never contacted nor NO MRI and NO NEUROLOGIST visited or examined. On 4/4/23, We were told 2-3 test were going to be completed to measure brain activity and it would take about 2 days. When I returned to hospital on 4/5/23, My loved one had been moved. Moved! without family being informed prior. When we asked why was he moved from 1 to 1 care, they told us, "there was nothing more they can do for him"! Totally broken to hear those words, especially after only being there for less than 1 week and mentioned testing were NEVER completed, but this was what was being relayed to us. I immediately asked to speak to dr. I spoke with a nurse who seemed to not have a clue as to what was happening, but she was in room. A social worker who also didn't have a clue. When Dr came in, we were informed that another CT scan was completed as well as an EEG. Still no MRI! Neurologist came in and stated what he stated without going in depth as to damage, how much was caused by decreased oxygen, swelling of brain...NOTHING! Immediately we asked for documentation as to what was being put forth to us. I no longer felt comfortable with what was happening. 4/6/23, still no MRI or further testing, he opened his eyes and moved his feet when it was touched, he flinched his body slightly when needle was stuck to draw blood. This showed me some sign of hope. The DR stated that was reflex and that he was unable to fell. How? There was no logical explanation that was given. 4/7/23, I entered the room and there was a horrible smell, my loved one was laying in his own feces and had vomit on his gown. When asked why was he still in that condition, a dr. apologized and they actually started to do their job. There is no way someone in his condition should be laying in feces and have stale vomit on clothing. Nurses are paid to do a job and be mindful. His mouth was filled with whatever residue from vomit and seemed to be choking or in discomfort. We also had to ask why wasn't that suctioned?
This is the worst place to take someone if they seem to be on their last. It seems like because what seems to be close to deaths door is a reason to be negligent in this hospital. Would my loved one be in a better state if the quality of care was better and actually given? Why is the policy in hospital for critical patients? moving patients? informing Family? Bedside manner expectancy for CCU? This was totally unprofessional. Everyone there seems to have a language barrier, an attitude, unsure of what's happening and a lack of professionalism.
Desired outcome: I want someone to answer all the questions I have and I need the policy of Brookdale and caring for CCU patients. I need clarity on how shift changes occur and how is information transferred from shift to shift?
Customer Service
Everytime I need to book an appointment and call the Eastern pkway location for anything there's an issue. The customer service you receive is despicable. You're placed on long mute times, Noone comes back to the line saying one moment or sorry for the wait. The front desk staff is surly and have no fron desk training. How about greeting your patients or even acknowledging that they are there with a quick one moment?!
Desired outcome: Your staff needs training in customer service and patient care. They come off as tired and annoyed with their job duties

Emergency services
I was admitted to the error by ems. I lost a filling in my toothe and I've been sitting here for four hours in pain new people coming in and going. I am very upset about this and in allot of pain. I would like to speak with the next chain of command. This was my first time at this hospital and my experience is very poor. I Am a mother and I work and I realize allot being in this waiting room.
Desired outcome: My desired outcome is the proper treatment and referral.
Mislay of my Mother
My mother went into the E.R. Dept. On Tuesday 12/20/22. I was told she'll be going on the medical floor and they're just waiting for a bed to be available. On Wednesday at 10:00 pm the ER Doctor calls me to tell me my mother is going to the telemetry floor. On Thursdday I go up to the telemetry floor to visit my mother, she's no where to be found. I go back to the ER, she's not there as well. The entire emergency room so upside down. After a while searching for my mother, a nurse eventually finds her on the other side of the ER in a corner.
Desired outcome: I would like an apology.
Patient Care
Patient Brenda Greaves was taken to the emergency room on Monday 9/5 around 12pm. As of today, Wednesday 9/7, she is still in the emergency room. She was in a room in the emergency room but has now been relegated (along with many other patients) to the hallway. Brenda is blind, diabetic and a transplant recipient. She has not been provided proper meals, she has not been bathed and I don't know if she has been receiving her medication as prescribed. She is complaining of hunger and burning and itching in parts of her body. It is unacceptable for anyone to be in an emergency room, in a hallway for such a long period of time much less someone who is unable to advocate for themselves. This needs to be addressed immediately. I am her daughter, Carol Laverpool and I can be reached at [protected] OR [protected]@gmail.com.
Desired outcome: I want Brenda Greaves to be put in a room today.
Colonoscopy/Endoscopy
My dad was scheduled for a colonoscopy, the gastrointestinal Dr stated that we would receive a phone call prior to colonoscopy to let us know what time to appear. We received no call up until the day before so I checked his online chart and it stated “colonoscopy @9am”. Later that evening at 5pm a young lady by the name of Hilda from Brookdale Hospital called and said that my dad was to appear at Brookdale at 6am for the colonoscopy. When we arrived at 6am a few nurses in the hall said they don’t begin procedures until 9am and they were sick of patients receiving the wrong information. How do you allow the elderly with ailments to sit for 3 hours waiting for a procedure to begin?! This hospital is unprofessional, the workers are incompetent and have the WORST bedside manners to say the least. The Drs there could use some training as well in the area of respect and courtesy. I live outside of the state and the care in other health care facilities including hospitals is outstanding.
Desired outcome: I would appreciate a response regarding what steps are being taken to improve care and professionalism. I want the CEO at Brookdale hospital aware of what is going on at this Hospital.
front door information no good.
my wife is in there on the 9th floor, first my daughter went to visit her mother and they gave her a hard time to see her, given her all kind of excuses and false information only to let her go after all the drama. Today April 13, 2,022 I went to see my wife, after taking all my information I was told that there is a 2 persons minimum per visit per patient and that there was already 2 people up there, I call my wife to let her know I was down stairs and that since they said the 2 minimum rule if she could have one of her visitors come down with the pass so i could see her, my wife told me there was no one up there with here since there are no place to sit I because I have bad back and can not stand for too long had to go back home with out seeing my wife. Your service is lacking in professionalism, human dignity and just a lack of common sense altogether.
ER/Admitted to hospital but no one has updated me on his status
My father Royston Smith has been at Brookdale hospital since Monday January 3rd, 2022. He went to the ER and so far all I've been told is he's waiting for a bed. Whatever that means. I've called relentlessly to get an update on his status to no avail. I've constantly been told that a doctor will call me back and no one ever does or I'm transferred to several phone numbers and eventually hung up on. Every single day Im told only the doctor can speak to me but they are busy. All I want to know is what is going on with my father. It is unconscionable the way a family member cannot visit, speak to, or find out the status of their loved ones in the hospital. My name is Rashida Smith attorney and counselor at law. [protected]. If anything has happened to my father, expect a lawsuit.
Desired outcome: To find out what is going ton with my father.
Brookdale Eastern Parkway clinic Administrator and doctors
I have been a patient for over 20 years and the treatment has become subpar at best. The neurologist, DR. FRIEDMAN, told me during my last appointment that he had no time to read the results of a MRI that i had recently taken. He said whatever dr. gave the authorization should be able to help me out. I have had issues with this man for 2 YEARS. He is either late for appointments (4 hours and better) or he brushes off my issues. I am in pain (back, hip and leg) and I am being ignored.
The administrator, Mr. Toppin, has done much of nothing to resolve this behavior. The doctor that I have been seeing, Nurse Belle, has left the hospital and I was given a doctor, Dr. Patel, that I do not like. She has no bedside manner whatsoever. This hospital is PURE TRASH. There is no respect for the patient or their needs. This is UNACCEPTABLE. We won't get into how this clinic does not answer the telephones when you call. This place needs to be SHUT DOWN.
Faulty wiring
I have a laptop that has been damaged because of faulty wiring. My grandson was a patient in the facility on December 20. On said night my computer was low on energy and I went to plug it in to charge it. Instead of charging the battery died and now it does not come back on. Who is responsible for this? It is a pre-owned laptop yes but it worked perfectly.
Desired outcome: Replacement or laptop of equal value
I an not the first person to have a complaint but I also hope I am not the only one who feels this is important.
Not pickup phone or transfer call and hangup
To whom it my concern: Emergency Concerns
My name is Charles Branch, this is in regard to my mother Barbara branch. She is a patient at your Brookdale hospital in the emergency department. She was admitted on Monday early afternoon by ambulance.Monday someone called from brookdale hospital to find out information and what type of medication for my mother because she does not go to brookdale hospital. I did not have the information they needed at the time. So the person said they would call back at 12 noon, I never received a call back at all. Her primary hospital is Long Island Jewish Northwell Hospital. The ambulance brought her to brookdale because of her condition. For the last two day, Me and my brother have been trying to contact the brookdale hospital. We have been calling and getting no information just the run with transfer calls to other extensions. No one ever picks up the phone or picks up and hangs up the phone. My brother this evening finally got through, but got nowhere. The person told him they can not give out any information because we don't know who you are, you might be the IRS.
Missing property
Im mellisa Williams. My boyfriend Anthony Sneed 's belongings is missing. Came to brookdale before 11pm March 25. Transferred to kings county March 27 before 2am. That's when the nurse or staff noticed his belongings were missing. He's in critical going to sicu for possible kidney stone removal. In excruciating pain.. He was alone, I had to work Nypd school safety for the 75 precinct. Being his medical state, his belongings should've been monitored more carefully. No ones searched and ready to hand me a form. He was transferred in his drawers and a gown. He didn't come that way. This is unacceptable and someone should be held responsible. Items: black short goose coat with hood, black hoodie with yellow logo ps224, blue pants with draw string, gray t-shirt. Wallet with bank card Carter Bank, drivers license, other cards, company car keys, house keys, mailbox keys, 1 pair of black and white 33 Jordan's size 8 and a half 9.

Complaint
Service at Star clinic — receptionist Christin — due to this lady — this same problem exists, and today I was kept on HOLD 0221 pm for 15 minutes... I just HUNG UP. I will call somebody else tomorrow when this lady does NOT WORK. (03/17/2021)
I have lost all confidence and I am not able to get an appointment for a patient — it is depressing for me — BUT WHO cares.

Star clinic
I work for the department of health and my job is to link patients who are out of care to Star clinic. My name is Kanna Raj
There is one female front desk receptionist (Christin) who looks after the scheduling the patients — and she behaves very rude to me-whenever I call and I tell my name — she keeps on hold for a long time, and after having been tortured like this I decided to spell out the patient's name and ask for an appointment - and this methodology used to work.
Now she realized that I was calling and she started acting out. What is more important for me is my patient needs an appointment and I don't need any argument with any staff and I am helping the hospital in increasing the OPD strength and that way you get paid and the patient is also linked..
This lady Christin need not advice me as to what I should do?
Desired outcome: Do whatever your policy states !!!

Forced Hospitalization
To Whom It May Concern:
I have a very serious matter. My name is Clyde Philippe and I am healthcare provider working in Virginia. My sister, Sophia Philippe, was admitted to the Brookdale Hospital, Adult Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program for observation; because the EMT reported that she was a threat to herself and her family. When I spoke to my sister, she admitted she was enraged at the time and told the 911 operator "she could not take it." She had been fighting my mother over a bill dispute and was not in her right mind temporarily. At this time, I called the hospital, spoke to a Ms. Riley and requested to speak to her doctor. They transferred me to a Dr. Chowdhury. Dr. Chowdhury, the resident physician, knew who my sister was immediately and said that their care plan for her could be as long as a 14 day hold. I asked her if it was involuntary or a voluntary hold. She explained that it was involuntary hold, but it would be ultimately be decided between my sister and her attending physician. She then told me that the plan for that evening, which was May 2nd, would be a formal evaluation by a physiatrist and then admission to the inpatient ward upstairs. Dr. Chowdhury also said she would seek a Release of medical information, so my sister's status and treatment plans would be shared with me. I understood this very well working in a hospital setting myself. My sister called me back and told me that she had not showered for over 24 hours. I called the ER observation room and asked why. Their excuse was that patients do not usually shower in the ER and would rather shower in the ward. But I explained to the nurse that at this point, it was a ward to my sister as she had been in the ER for over 24 hours. The nurse explained that it "was the other shift" and that she would take care of my sister now.
Later that evening, I was alerted by my sister that immediately after she showered, they transferred her upstairs to the inpatient ward. She did not see a physician or physiatrist on duty. She had told me that the emergency room nurses account and statements were taken as observational notes and that the physician transferred her based what they had observed. This is unacceptable. I proceeded to call the Charge Nurse of the Inpatient PSYC Ward at Brookdale. When I spoke to the charge nurse and alert her of what happened, she told me there was no way a patient could be admitted to the ward without a doctor giving a comprehensive review of the patient's mental condition signing off the transfer. I asked the doctors name who signed off her transfer and was denied the information. I told the charge nurse that Dr. Chowdhury should have gotten a Release of medical information signed by my sister and he said that no such thing existed. The charge nurse told me to call back on Monday, after the doctor's rounds, at 12 PM. This was very frustrating for me.
I have been in the medical field for 9 years now. I have never seen in a hospital setting that a patient can be transferred to a ward, especially a PSYC ward, without seeing a doctor. My sister was of sound mind and was simply overwhelmed by the current status of society during the time of the incident and that is all she ever told any medical professional. To hold her for more than 24 hours, much less than 14 days, without a court order, and without seeing a doctor to determine her state of mind is not only negligent, but illegal. She is telling me that she was in the same room with men masturbating and people throwing up. This is within a close proximity during a time where a pandemic ravages our inner cities. She is being pressured to take depression and anxiety medications without a diagnosis and knowledge of her medical plan or course of care. I urge you to please investigate this as my sister's fragile mind is already overtaken by the current affairs. It is a doctor's duty to care for the patient's health. But how can he/ she, if they never even saw them? I am trying my best not to seek legal counsel as a fear for my sister's health in a hospital that is seemingly overwhelmed.
Thank you,
Respectfully,
Clyde Philippe

Unprofessional staff-unreasonable wait for care
yesterday 8am, my mother had an appt with the neurosurgeon at Brookdale. upon exiting the bus, she fell and hurt her foot. she went to the dr's staff and told them what happened. they told her if she goes to the emergency room, she would miss her appt. she decided to see her dr and when she did he sent her to the ER at 1145. she had an xray which confirmed a chipped bone in her left foot and a dr would splint it for her. she saw dr. gaines at 730 pm. why did it take so long for someone to help her? she is on seizure medication and did not have it with her since she didn't expect to spend 8 hrs in ER. She did not eat, nor go to the bathroom because she was afraid to miss the dr. when she asked nurse Estes what was taking so long, the nurse replied, "if you don't like it-leave!"
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

this lady christin need not advice me as to what I should do? christian does not decide whether a patient needs to be seen by whom? it delays the process and the patient will fall out of care and will go to some other hospital and that is why brookdaale is loosing its patients.
There is a STUPID security personnel maned Steele who stops me from doing official work and this this stupid security even tried restrain me from entering the building by blocking the door, I complained to her supervisor-who was even more STUPIDER than her, I gave up because it was a waste of TIME. I have a dreaded feeling even to enter this hospital BUT I have to come to work on a triweekly basis--I don't want to be questioned by in a nauseating fashion this security in future..

To Whom it May Concerned:
I am exhausting all options to file complaints against the quality of care at Brookdale Hospital. PLEASE READ this in it's entirety and Please pass this on if I have the wrong department, also Please email me back that someone has received this complaint and will at least look into the statements made in this e-mail. The last problem started with my aunts transfer from Schulman & Schachne Institute were she was to receive rehab for two broken legs and a broken arm. My aunt is totally blind and in her normal state of blindness becomes disoriented. The rehab center did not contact her proxy on file about the transfer at 3:45am, I happened to find out when I went to visit her and her bed was empty and stripped down. I called her daughter at 12:30pm hours after the transfer happened.
She was transferred to Brookdale Hospital. Her hospital roommate informed me that my aunt signed two papers and she was not read what she was signing. Again my aunt is totally Blind and was taking strong pain medications which were causing in and out hallucinations. The doctor stated she did respond to questions which he concluded her to understand what she was signing. Keep in mind still no family members knew of her transfer. In her records it states daughter is proxy please notify daughter of any medical chances and decisions, she needed to be there to assist her mom in making an informed decision.
In the evening I notified the nurse my aunt was severally bleeding. She had already lost a great deal of bleed early that day and needed a transfusion, and I knew this was serious. Since Nurse Daley and Nurse Collins stationed on the 9th floor at Brookdale Hospital did not like my delivery or call for help they took a long time to assist my aunt. I documented the time, took pictures and called 911 to have some documentation of what I was witnessing. 911 stayed on the phone with me and I gave them detailed information on my aunts condition and the nurses were not happy with what I was doing to document the situation.
Please look into all the statements made above for the next patient that has nobody to write an email to agencies that will hear their complaints. The situation was serious she is now in ICU.

My husband came at 11:00pm Sept 19, 2015 due to pains in his body from a shock he got at work he came in the emergency room we been sitting in the waiting area for 5 hours and no one has helped us yet and is 4:35am
I encountered a sonogram technician by the name of Ms. Williams at Brookdale Hospital. Not only was she rude and uncaring, but she treats patients like they are beneath her. I asked her several questions since this was my first sonogram. She completely ignored me. I asked her to repeat something she mumbled. She got frustrated and shouted, "What did I say!?!" I am gonna change hospitals because of the negative reviews of this hospital and my treatment there. I filed a complaint with the manager for that area and I am awaiting a response. That woman should not be around expectant mothers. She makes sarcastic remarks to treat people like crap. Why is she even employed as a sonogram technician?! I regret not telling her off when i had the chance to!
i went to the emergency room 2 days ago for spotting and cramping while pregnant.i arrived and checked in at 11 am, and was finally called at 4pm. the ob/gyn Dr Samantha Brown was very rude and unsympathethic not only towards me but to other patients. She was rough with the internal sonogram and since she had no explanation as to why i could be bleeding she ordered a blood test and a urine analasys, i also told her i was asthmatic and had no meds would there be any way i could get prescribed a pump she said yes and sent me back to the e.r waiting room as i waited for 4 more hours (i randomly kept checking to see what was taking so long since i had to pick up my son, and she kept telling me any minute now)i was waiting for the results of the blood/urine test to make sure my baby was fine, also for the prescription. Well 8:30 i was furious and left the e.r to go pick up my kid and check on my elderly grandma and came back an hour later, i was still not called. They changed shifts and i had to deal with another rude Dr that held me off for these results for another 45 minutes, then i was finally called only to find out the blood/urine samples were never sent to the lab and i waited for no reason, she said they threw it away or lost it, by this time i was beyond infuriated as you can't just dispose of these samples normally, but they convinced me to take yet another blood drawing and urine sample, the nurse this time appeared to not know what she was doing and hurt me while drawing blood from the same arm, all the while she did this in the waiting room while patients having asthma attacks were being ignored, now back to the waiting game 11:00 finally results, all was well with my baby but i had to literally beg for the prescription since the previous Dr obviously did not make a mention of me.If you have an emergency please do not go to this hospital the staff could care less about you and are very unproffesional.rude and its a dingy miserable place
This hospital abuses and neglects it's patients
I was admitted to the emergency room at Brookdale University Hospital on 6/24 for a drug overdose. Later I was transferred to the first floor psych ward involuntarily. The next day when my mother tried to come to see me they turned her away and told us that patients who are in the first floor holding area are not allowed to have any visitors. I only was able to see her for a moment and exchanged a few words with her before they told her that she had to go.
The next night there was a patient arguing with the staff, claiming that he was not supposed to be here and that this was a big misunderstanding. He said that he only came in to Brookdale for medication, not for hospitalization and demanded to be see the doctor in order to be evaluated for discharge. Another patient got up and started to argue with the staff as well, and for no apparent reason. I talked with the man who claimed that his admission to the psych ward was a mistake, and expressed my sympathy for him and tried to calm him down. I criticized the staff for the way they were treating him. One of the nurses decided to quell the dispute by administering antipsychotic injections to the two men who were arguing with the staff. The patients agreed to be medicated. When the nurse informed me that she had an injection ready for me, I was stunned. I had done nothing wrong, or so I had thought. I merely expressed my concerns about the way they were treating this man. I was respectful, and peaceful, and I never raised my voice against any one. Nonetheless the nurse saw me as being a part of this disturbance, and complained that the staff were not able to do their work, because too many patients were disturbing them. I did not want the injection, and I feared that combined with the toxicity of the drugs already in my system, that this would surely kill me, so I refused, and said that I do not consent to this injection. Without even a warning, four hospital security guards surrounded me and restrained me to the floor. They put me into a position where my face was pressed against the floor, and barely able to breathe. One of them told me to kiss the floor. I gave up and decided to play dead. They restrained me to a bed, and wheeled me into a room and left me for dead. They did not even send a doctor to counsel me or to explain what I did wrong. A half hour later the nurse came in and let me go, but it was a horrifying ordeal, which left me permanently traumatized.
The first floor holding area is a miserable and dreadful place. It looks like a dungeon, the bathroom is filthy and the furniture in the dining area is torn apart. It is a dangerous place where patients seeeking help are not at all cared for. Instead the staff routinely drugs patients, patients are not allowed to freely express themselves, and dissent is violently surpressed, and it must be shut down for good.

today is sunday 1/9/11 and i also have a complaint againt brookdale hospital which is going on right now as we speak i am a mother of an 8yr old boy that is hearing voices when he admitted this to me on 1/5/11 while we laid in bed because i was trying to put him to sleep he was breathing very hard biteing on his nails and i had asked him what was wrong because he said to me mommy i have something to tell you but i dont know how i let him know that it was ok and he can tell me anything and he said ok hear it goes mommy i hear voices and they have been telling me not to tell you because you wont understand i assured him that it was ok because i have the same illness and his farther did to and as i said earlier i was trying to put him to sleep because he does not sleep at night he only sleeps in the day and misses school alot and he told me that it was because he bad dreams and hears voices and he told me this has been going on since birth or should i say since can remember all i wanted to do is hug my son and let him know every thing was ok then on 1/6/11 me and my 16 yr old did everything we could to wake him up to go to school and when we got him up he went to his dresser to look for his shirt while he had a shirt right next to him me and my 16yr old was telling him to wear that one and then he just broke down crying saying the voices was telling him not to wear that one i just got so scared and called 911 and emergency came to my house i had asked emergency what hospital they were going to take him to they said either brookdale or kingscounty and from experience with both hospital not being A rated i told them brookdale because i thought it changed because of my experienced and all the complaints but boy am i wrong and when he first got admitted everything was fine at first i was seeing him through visiting hours and he seemed of from what i can see but we are talking about the same little boy that held this secreat for basically seven or eight years but then yesterday every this changed i came to the hospital on 1/8/11 with my oldest son who is 16yrs old and when we got to the locked door of the psych ward and i started to knock my son pointed out a sign to me on the door that said under 18 not allowed and my oldest son was getting ready to break down when i told him to say he was 18 yrs for god sake i was just trying to let him see his little brother when the nurse came to open the door she asked right away how old is he and i said 18 when we went inside i saw my son sitting as a table and as we sat next to him my oldest started to play with him then the head nurse came in and snap at my oldest son HOW OLD ARE YOU! very aggresive to my son when she should of been talking to me and my oldest said 18 my youngest who did not know any better said no you are not your 16 i got shock and put my finger on his mouth and then the another nurse snap at me saying DONT SLAP HIM which i did not. And oldest son is my witness and then the two nurses started going off at me about how i lied which i did out of the goodness of my heart and they started saying all of this in front all the kids in the room including my kids and then they said they would let my oldest stay but that was not the end they sat there listening to everything i was saying to my kids and i told my 8yr old i was going to try and get him out in 72hours and boy did that struck a nerve in one of the nurses and the head nurses snap at my 16yr old YOU GET OUT RIGHT NOW YOU DONT BELONG IN HERE! i did not say anything i just told my son to go wait for me in the hallway and because i did not get mad the nurse that was mad saying things to me while im trying to spend time with my son like "i did not even report that you slaped your son" which i did not and then i turned to her and told her what am i doing wrong but trying to spend time with my son i havent even said anything to no body then the head nurse asked the nurse are you ok and she said i dont know then the head nurse said she would take her place and sit there watching me like i was a criminal and my 8yr old commited a crime and then my youngest son asked her if he could eat his snack that i had brought him and the head nurse said no after he take his shower and told me how hungry he was because he and the other kids did not eat there dinner because one of the patients spit in there food and they got grossed out which was not there fault then the head nurse told him while i was there visiting him to go take his shower i told my son at that moment to wait because i really wanted to be with him then the head nurse told me that was there rules and he had to follow the rules then my son asked can he please spend time with his mom and she looked at him and said no then he went to his room to get his clothes which i thought it was going to be a gown but it was his street clothes which i thought was weird then when he went in to take his shower i went a male nurse to unlock the door to the hallway then i can check on my oldest and he did when i went out in the hallway my youngest was in tears he asked me to past my youngest a note saying that he loved him and would see him when he gets home so then nocked on the door and went back inside and my son was out of the shower and had on his street clothes which still puzzeled me i past him the note and the head nurse snap again saying WHAT DID SHE JUST HAND HIM! very loud and another nurse said a number and the head nurse said oh and did not say anything then the nurse that got mad because i said i was getting him out in 72hours said to to the head nurse very loud then i can hear and i believe to spite me YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE NOT GETTING SNACK BECAUSE THEY DID NOT EAT THERE DINNER so in other words the kids would just have to starve know matter what they saw a dinner time which was not there fault then i turned to my son and asked why he had on street clothes if it was bed time and he told me the staff said he could not have a gown because he had street clothes and that was the rules then the nurse that got mad about the 72hours said to the head nurse i cant wait for my food to get here in front of the kids who were hungry and me as a parent. then there food came and the kids just watched as the head nurse ate right infront of them and the smell feeled the are as a parent i truly felt horrible my poor baby and the look on my childs face i still cant get over. The visiting hours were 5:30 to 7:30 and it had reached my time to go actually it was 7:20 but i had said my goodbyes and preyed for his safety because if i stayed any longer and they tried to escort me out at 7:30 i would be in jail so because i know myself i left then me and my oldest son left and walked our long walk home from brownsville to canarsie because i did not have the carfare and social service in the hospital could not help me but on our long walk i had time to think how i would get my son out of there when i finally got home i called 311 and they told me to call the hospital management which i did which called the ward and asked for the covering doctor to be paged then put me on the phone with the head nurse who took down my phone number and had the nerve to ask why i wanted to speak to the doctor obviously to cover her butt i told her it was private and then she asked was it because they hadent put him on his medication and a i thats one of the things when the doctor finally called my house you could tell he did have the backbone that god gave him and was whispering on the phone he did not know how to help me like true punk like why was he even a covering doctor so then i asked is there any body i can speak to and they gave me the number to nurse management i believe her name was mrs lawrence she let me talk for a minute and then said she knows all about me and said which i could not believe that the nurse told him after i tapped my son for saying my oldest son was 16 i hauled off and smaked him infront of everybody and god is my witness i never did and the camaras can prove it but when she said that that was it i snapped and let her know they were lying and for all i know she could be the one saying this to save her staff from looking stupid and after i wailed on her and then she told me she was putting someone on the phone to explain something to me and then she made the wrong move she put the head nurse on to explain the medication to me which was the wrong move to make the head nurse got on the phone and said because i wanted to know i was talking to EXCUUSE ME and i excused her allright i read her up and down and she got off the phone in 1 minute and did not explain anything to me because i was not hearing it whic left me back on the phone with nurse managment who was trying to calm me down and saying that my oldest son was hearing everything so i put my oldest on the phone so he can tell her i never slapped my son which he did and he hung up the phone on him which brings me to today 1/9/11 which is sunday i just knew i was going to go there and dare anybody to say something to me then by Gods grace my boyfriend called me this mourning and told me not to go because i could be put in jail or a mental institution my self so i did not go today and thats why am sitting saying why Brookdale needs to be burned down because there are so many good people looking for work and these hefers are in here running things like this like where do they get these people from i really dont know but i do know i am calling the insurance company in the mourning and getting it stopped and getting my son discharged i am not playing and these nurses that need medication to treat people like this! I am warning you dont ever go to brookdale
I was recently sent to the Brookdale emergency psych ward unit because I was having suicidal thoughts.Big mistake I think if ever I truly felt suicidal in my life it was while sitting in this holding cell for psychiatric patients.
I agree with you the conditions are very disgusting with a dirty bathroom and the waiting area had pull out chairs that smelled very foul. You have to ask the nurses for everything from hand soap(since they don't have any in the bathroom) to help with calling a family member or friend. The nurses and staff are not helpful at all. They refused to help me with the simplest of tasks and every time I went up to the window to ask for something I was told to sit down and wait and hours would go by and I would not receive the help that I needed.People where being medicated against there will through the use of needles just for asking about information on there situation. The doctors did not even inform the patients of why they where being held there for so long against their will.I sat in that psych ER room for 4 days before I was admitted upstairs.By the time I got upstairs I had no energy, I was extremely sick from being in such a dirty area for four days and feeling worse than when I came in.These people have no respect for their patients and they assume that every patient that comes through there doors is just another wacko who can't speak of for themselves and who doesn't deserve to be treated as a human being.I feel sorry for those patients who truly cant speak up for themselves and truly where stuck there with no one to speak up for them.I witness a mentally unstable young man who obviously belongs in an institution get abused physically and emotionally by the staff. They allowed him to walk around in a diaper that gave him a really disgusting rash. They allowed him to eat from the garbage can, scratch his butt and touch others and also left him there smelling very foul all the while laughing at him through there protected room and glass while the rest of us suffered.I think this place needs to either be shut down or needs a complete overhaul.Either way something needs to change and if we as people don't speak up then more people will continue to suffer and it is just not right.I will forever be traumatized by my experience in that hospital and will most likely need therapy just for that situation alone.
This hospital is dangerous and should be closed
I was a patient at Brookdale University Hospital in Brooklyn, NY on 10-30-06. I was in the coronary care unit. I received practically no care, coronary or otherwise. My roomate was deranged, and yelled continuously. I was across from the nurses lounge, more properly the bar and lounge. The noise, laughter, and chatter was unbelievable. I pushed the call button, and pulled out all my monitor leads, without any response. Some nurses supervisor came by the next day and took notes, but never furnished me a promised copy. Of course I never received a survey form. This hospital is dangerous and should be closed. e business location and detailed comp
