Columbia House / Edge Line Ventures review: This company is a SCAM! 72

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

In 2004, a minor in my home ordered these in my name. Upon receipt I called and informed them of this. They sent me a return address label for the "Intro Package" and the 2 Director Selections that had been shipped in the meantime. I returned all the DVD's and never heard another word. Until now.

This past week I got a letter from a collection agency. Columbia House turned me in for not having "filled my obligation." First off, it wasn't mine to fill, it was fraud. Secondly, I returned the DVD's to them AT THEIR EXPENSE. Not to mention, it's been 3yrs! This is INSANE!

Then, try to call a customer service number and speak to a HUMAN. They don't exist. It's all recordings. Even their corporate line is. This company is a SCAM!

Well somehow they got hold of my credit card, and charge me $12.4 and sent me some crap dvd's.

this is illegal!

I called their customer service : [protected], to complain and cancel this so call membership that I never started.

I must say, these people expected the call, and they sound very shady...and under the menu they even have an option for people who are charged but did not apply for membership!

I have already filed a complaint to the Indiana BBB.

good luck

When I ordered tapes a while back (which I never received) I wrote you and told you I did not want them as I was moving, So I guess you never sent them. I am going into a nursing home and cannot use tapes. Please do not contact me again. I have sent a copy of this as I did with my other mailings to my attorney. Please do as I ask.CANCEL CANCEL

They sent me a bill for $135.70, stating I owe them this for, DVD's sent to me. I never joined their club, nor did I receive movies from them.

Please could you look into this matter as I have bad credit as it is, but I would hate to have added bills to it that I did not agree too.

This is the account no. 50562708516D13570 319111

This collection company has called twice telling me that Columbia House turned me over to collections for $54. I finally got through to Columbia House and they said that they would report to Takhar that they have no account for me. Takhar said that they would still report me to the credit reporting agencies unless I paid the bill.

HOW CHASE BANK AND COLUMBIA HOUSE STOLE CHRISTMAS

On August 8, 2008 I purchased some DVDs from Columbia House, the order came to $35.84. The order was shipped missing an item after many emails and phone calls to them I finally got my remaining item but they charged me an additional three times for that one item. After another round of calls and emails I finally chalked it up to a bad experience that I would learn a lesson from.

On October 11.2008 I logged into my checking account to find that I had two pending charges of $99.76 from Columbia House! I immediately called Chase Bank 800 where I spoke to a wonderful supervisor Pat, whom advised that as they were still pending she had been able to reverse them. As a caution she advised that they could submit again as long as they had my card number and provided me the number to the Chase Claims Department.

Immediately I began trying to contact Columbia House via their email process on their website - to this day they have NEVER responded to the dozens of emails that I have sent regarding this issue. Calls are answered by someone not qualified to handle the matter, so a supervisor will need to return your call and that NEVER happens either.

I tried to remove my card information from their site, which the site does not allow you to do! You also can not remove the check mark in the box allowing them to use that information for any future shipments and charges! In frustration I changed the billing information on the card to Big Bird, 123 Sesame Street, New York NY 10001

On October 14, 2008 they again debited my checking account for $99.76 which resulted in CHASE Bank charging me $75.00 and $32.00 for insufficient funds fees.

I contacted CHASE Bank filed a claim and closed that debit card (as they would not file the claim other wise). I provided them with screen shots showing no purchases, no shipments, no pending orders since the August fiasco and was advised by Angel that CHASE Bank would be crediting back the charge and any related insufficient funds fees.

Initially they did credit back the $99.76 and the $75.00 for insufficient funds. CHASE refused to credit the $32.00 as Donnell advised me because a previous request had been made (the $75.00) within a 12-month period.

On November 20, 2008 CHASE bank reversed themselves and took the $99.76 and the $75.00 from my checking account again. I contacted CHASE Claims Department on 11.21.2008 and was advised by Judy that she would re-open the claim and I would receive that information shortly. Several hours later there was still no information received. Again I contacted CHASE claims where upon Andre advised me that I would need to speak with a supervisor whom was currently on another call and would need to call me back.

To date there has been no communication from Judy or Andre’s supervisor, maybe CHASE has Columbia House train the employees in their Claims Department!

Thanks to Grinches at COLUMBIA HOUSE and CHASE BANK there will be no Christmas in our household this year. The theft of over $200.00 from my account by these two supposedly reputable companies has ended any possibility of a celebration of any kind in my household

i orded a movie from columbia house and been paying them when the movie came. I orded wanted and still haven't recieved it yet and they tell me i owe them by due date or will charge me for late fees.
IF they are going to charge me late fees than they had better sent the movie or they can just forget about the payment.

Noticed a charge from "COL*HOUSE VIDEO CLUB(Other)" on my account. Called them, they verified that the name on account with my credit card number is not my name. They would not cancel the charge or cancel the account as I do not know the account number. Is Columbia house promoting fraud here ?

My daughter (17 years old) just got another phonecall from Columbia House saying that she owes them $108.00. She never ordered anything from them, and when she asked them what address that they were sending them to, they told her the address. When she told the person on the phone the address that she lives at, and said that they ahad the wrong person they typed this phone number into their computer (as she could hear them typing it).
Is this how they get all their customers? Is my daughter's credit going to get bad over someone using her name? Is it that easy to pick up the phonebook and select a phone number to get someone else to pay for your merchandise?
Well, I called a lawyer and I will file harrassement charges if I need to!

I should have gotten out while I could..this club is nothing, but trouble..first I had to file complaints to force them to send me my introductory package as per our agreement..they were trying to force me to prepay for the package and the two advance orders I placed BEFORE sending me out my intro package..I received the two advanced orders and one from my intro package..and they began demanding full payment before they sent me the rest of my order..I refused to pay contacted the Attorney General and filed a breach of contract complaint against them..they changed their tune and sent me my dvds..upon receiving them making sure they worked I paid in full one dvd I didn't get I believed was on back order so I waited and I waited..I had to demand repeatedly that they send me my first order so I could begin fulfilling my commitment to them..they ignored me until I said I would file another complaint with the AG..they sent me one dvd set I informed them I would not send payment until I received the second set from my order..it took them three days, but they shipped off the second set, the first arrived damaged so I sent a request for a return voucher and a new set be shipped to me..no reply to my request..then I received a letter stating the dvd from my intro order was no longer available so they removed it from my order..so I paid for a dvd they have yet to send me..I requested a different title and to this date no response to that email..I'll only take this bs for so long before I demand to be removed from the club with no obligation on my part since they are the ones refusing to abide by their own terms and yes I will go back to the AG..

I am so tired of receiving invoices for Linda Huey at my address in Texas. I DO NOT KNOW a Linda Huey. First I thought it was a joke. I keep sending the invoices back noting "Linda Huey - - Not at this address". The return address simply states Customer Service Center, PO Box 91310, Indianapolis, IN. I finally googled this to find out who was doing this.

columbiahousedvdclub hasn't lived up to contract. I joined club 1 year, earned *fun* money, haven't been able to colect any savings. Also columbiahouse won't let me make my own selections of movies, also they make it very hard to contact them to make changes. I've purchased 12 movies, haven't been given any savings as promissed.

Seven years ago Columbia house approached me about becoming member of their club, which I did. The contract stipulated that once I purchase 3- DVDs at the regular price I could cancel my contract. I did purchase the DVDs and cancelled the contract. This people will not take the word "cancel contract" for an answer and kept sending me automatic shipments, which I returned back as "return to sender". I called them and a representative for a membership agreement, which was never produced. The second time I called they said that they will take care of the account and I will not owe anything. Now 7 years later, I received a letter from a collection agency in New York saying that I owe them $ 76.61 and if I don't pay within 30 days they are going to report me to the 3 major credit reporting agencies. I already reported this incident to The Federal Trade Commission, consumer affairs office, the attorney general in the state of CA and Illinois and better business bureau. This company files bogus information on previous consumers and demands payments on ghosts accounts. Everyone who is a victim of this fraud should speak up otherwise they will continue with this practices.

i wouldn't be too concerned if i were you they have tried similar to me and i have never yet had it go on my report. They don't ask for the social security number so it is impossible to place it on the report since they have no proof on who is actually receiving the product

I am writing this since so many people are getting scammed by this company.
I know so many kids are buying 4 DVDs for 99cents to receive game money, and I was one of them.
After 2 months of joining their membership that I wasn't aware of, they started sending me expensive DVDs that cost $40.
I tried reaching columbia house by calling, but it was IMPOSSIBLE to get someone alive on the phone.
I even emailed them, but they replied back saying I should return the DVD to them, but that won't stop them from sending useless junks and billing me.
I was ill from all the stress that I got from Columbia House, and my boyfriend helped me to get rid of them.

Here's how I did it:

1) Go to www.BBB.org (Better Business Bureau), and look for a button that says "File a Complaint"

2) Click "File A Complaint", and they will ask you for your info(address, name.. etc)
Also, they will ask you what they did wrong, and what you would like them to do.
I wrote: Columbia House sent me DVDs that I didn't order for, and demanded money.
I want them to delete ANY information about me, and stop sending me items with bills

3) Send the complaint, and wait for BBB to respond. It took around 2~3 weeks for them to reply, and most likely, BBB will be on your side.
Keep everything that BBB and Columbia House sends to you.

After waiting weeks, BBB responded that Columbia House will refund all my money (4 DVDs for 99 cents) and cancel my membership if I return all DVDs to them.
I returned the DVDs (See below that says WARNING), but they refused close our issues. THEY WERE KEEP BILLING ME EVEN THOUGH BBB TOLD THEM NOT TO.
I filed Complaint again on BBB, and said that Columbia House is not keeping the promise that we agreed on.
I also told them that I will sue Columbia House if they don't commit to the first agreement that we made.
I just received an apology letter from BBB (nice people

i recieved collection notices from two different agencies claiming i owe columbia house money. when i call columbia house they claim i owe money for dvds i ordered and club obligation fees from 2004. this is 2011. this is the first time i've been contacted about this. i told them i never joined their club and never recieved any dvds. i also told them that i never recieved any info. from them saying i was in their club. when i asked what was all ordered they didn't know. i have already called twice to get this fixed but they are dragging they're feet. this company is obviously making fraudulant claims to collections agencies. i already warned them that it better get fixed or i'm calling my home owners insurance company and filing a claim under our identity theft/fraud coverage.

I ordered 3 Dvd's for a dollar each about a half a year ago. They had a 3 for $1 special going on and I had purchased the movies from them. They shipped to my house fine, i got the 3 dvds.
Then They started sending me letters in the mail saying I had ordered certain movies, and i owed them money and i certainly didn't choose any of those, considering I havent even been on their website in months.
About a week ago, they sent me a letter threatening to ruin my credit by contacting a collection agency on me because apparently I owed them $68.95 for no reason.
I understand that I got the Dvds from the very beginning for very cheap, but why would they make me think im getting a good deal then... and then charge me for it later without me knowing that I owe them.
I'm 15 years old, and currently i don't have the money to pay them.
Im not quite sure what to do.

Years ago before DVD's I received an advertisement through the mail from Columbia House. The ad said to pick 12 movies for $1.00 each. I thought this was a place to maybe get movies at a discount price. WOW what I did not realize is after they ship the movies that they bind you to a one year contract. Then you have only 12 months to buy 12 more movies at there club prices. The catch is that the club prices for any movie they have is $39.99 an up for each movie you have to buy. Before it was all over I spent $400.00 plus the $12.00 for the first 12 movies totaling $412.00 for 20 vhs tapes. Divided by 20 = $20.60 per movie. What a deal? I love the fact that they don't tell you any of this before signing up with them. Scam, scam, scam. Movie lovers BEWARE. Stay away from them. Go shopping for movies at Ebay or Amazon its safer and certainly cheaper. When I tried to call them to see if I could return the first 12 movies because I did not know that I would be obligated to buy movies at such a high cost to fill the contract. They told me that there was nothing they could do. Also that I only had the 12 months to keep from breaking the contract with them before legal action could be taken by Columbia House to recover they money I owed them. I paid they money but told everyone about there movie scam. Beware of Columbia money making house.

3/16/2013 I got a call from a collector telling me that I owe Columbia house 236.00 from 2007 . I have never had an account with them but the collectors had my name and old address . I told them I had never had an account with them and all they did was argue with me saying that I had multiple letters sent to me and phone calls but today was the first time I had heard anything about this . So whether some one used my info or Columbia house is fruading people I don't know .

I received a call from ATG Credit telling me we owed them $21.77 for an order from Columbia House back in 2005. My husband has never had an account with them. I called the creditors back and spoke with a very rude girl. I told her he has never had an account, there is no money due and if there is, show me proof. She could not, nor could she provide me with any information at all! I asked for a customer service number for Columbia House so I could contact them directly and she informed me they did not have that information. I told her this was a joke and a total waste of time because it was a scam and that is where that conversation ended. My husband called later and guess who? Same rude girl that I had spoken with hours prior. He asked to speak with a supervisor or manager. She denied his request saying that would only waste more time and he/she would not be able to do anymore that she was. He told her he was not paying anything because he had never had an account, nor had he ever purchased/received anything from them. She proceeded to tell him if he did not pay it, it would go on his credit report. She followed up by telling him she could discount the price to get him to pay it then, over the phone. He denied that and laughed saying no - I am not paying for something that I did not order/receive! She basically told him if he refused and did not pay the bill in full within one month, it would be showing up on his credit report. Today we received a notice from them in the mail. When he tried to contact Columbia House directly, he was unable to get through to anything. Every number he tried asked for an account number, which obviously we do not have. I have been researching this and found a couple numbers to try from others having the same complaints so I will try them next. Thank you to the other victims of this scam for providing extra information to help the rest of us get crap like this resolved!

Columbia House sends me this package, I never signed up for columbia house's dvd club. In the package is a ### movie that you couldn't pay me to watch. I call the number on the invoice to inquire about this service I never signed up for and all I get is the run-around by an automated system. A couple of months go by and I get a bill for 58 dollars and 44 cents. I'm fit to be tied at this point so I search the internet and find this site with people who have had similar experiences. I call the columbia house legal department and give them my account number and they transfer me back to the automated line without even asking me a question about my complaint. SO I call back and get this slimy sounding guy named "Trent". I tell him I never signed up for the service and I want to know how I got the package. He says I didn't have to sign up. And since I didn't pay the money to send the package back I am now in the club. He has this real smart-assy attitude about him the whole time he's telling me this. He is talking to me like I am some kind of ###. You can tell Trent gets these calls often and he enjoys letting people know there is know recourse. This is nothing short of thievery. These as**lowns will not see a single red cent of my money

My Email to Columbia House:

Once again my credit card was charged for a purchase that I did not make. The last time this happened I was charged for Directors Selections that I did not order. I have gone in every month and canceled my Directors Selections so I will not get charged again. I have a conformation email stating that I canceled the Directors Selection on 11/2/2006. So what have I been charged for this time?

I can't tell because it does not say in my account. There is no customer service number to call and it takes days for a representative to contact me by email. Why do you routinely charge my account for services and merchandise that I do not authorize? Who is going to pay my bounced check fee for this charge since you negatived my bank account? The business practices at Columbia House are criminal at best and I am reporting this matter to The Better Business Bureau.
