Regretting the 30 day membership trial
Regretting ever signing up at the Lafayette, IN Curves
I signed up to be a member at the Lafayette Curves in April. The woman signing me up clearly stated to me two options available to me on that day regarding entrollement. One option was to sign up for the $30 for 30 days. The second option was $30 plus a reduced enrollment fee for $49. If not happy after the first 30 days, you will receive the enrollment fee but not the $30.
This was false! The owner stated that once you sign the contract you have three days to change your mind and will not refund anything. It is a much wiser choice to sign on to the “Y” for the variety of exercise classes that you get for you money. Curves quickly bored me, and I didn’t feel like I was exercising to my potential. It is the same machines and routine each day, BORING! You have 30 seconds on each machine and that is ridiculous. Buyer be aware before joining Curves.

MEMBERSHIP REFUND
My wife joined Curves in Nov of 2008 with the good intentions of losing weight and excercising with their equipment. I allowed the automatic deduction /draft of monthly memebership fees, (HUGE MISTAKE), a year later she did not want to go anymore, bought her own workout equipment for the house. I was reviewing my check book in March and realized I was still being hit for monthly membership fees. I called to cancel and the clerk took my info down and indicated a letter was required and could be faxed, I did just that in 5 minutes..fax machine on thier end was busy for 20 minutes...HUM! I called back and they said sorry it was tied up...I got through about ten minutes after that, it was 3/17/2010 they said too bad about March, I said no problem. Today is 5/18 and threy have hit me twice since then.I called and got the MANAGER/OWNER RHONDA NELSON, she acknowledged my call of 3/17 and wanting to cancel but said they never got the fax, she had the log on the call in 10 seconds flat, but never called us? I asked if she logged all visitors in the building and she confirmed it, and acknowledged my wife had not been in the facility for over 6 months! Rhonda refused to refund me just 2 months of fees after repeated attempts to recoup the $$. Finally I faxed a lenghty letter indicating I would contact the attorney general, curves HQ. and others and internet reviews and she said One month back...These people are out and out CROOKS! THEY SHOULD GET IN LINE WITH LOAN SHARKS, PAWN SHOPS, TITLE LOAN COMPANIES, ALL LEEACHING OFF GOOD WORKING MEMBERS OF SOCIETY...NEVER EVER USE THESE PEOPLE!

Standing by franchises
Why is it that Curves International does not stand by their franchises? I mean, after all, aren't they getting a cut from each franchise? We just lost our franchise and they basically won't do anything about it...that's over 330 members without a home. Grant you, they can go to another location (although most are far from their home base), but you would think they would get to the bottom of the previous owners and find out what happened. After all, they are making money off each franchise and it's their good name that is being dragged through the mud. Stand by your members and get to the bottom of all franchise problems!
How can you let Julia Sell run the Portage, Wi Curves when she has just been convicted of stealing money from a Church and has to spend 2 months in jail...Do you know how many people in Portage and area around that have quit because she is rude with them. She shouldn't be running a hot dog stand much less Curves. Your reputation is at risk.!
Cancellation Fee
I joined up with curves because i thought it would be a great way of shedding a few kilos.
I enjoyed it but then my Grandmother got sick and I got a job in September 2009, so I didn't bother going back. After a while I realized that they were still taking money out so in February 2010 I rang curves and told them that I wanted to cancell my membership but they talked me into being put on hold for medical reasons so I agreed, then sometime after that I notified Curves that I would be returning but never did. then I realize that another payment had been taking out of my account and that was on a Saturday also there were other payments taking out of my account on other occasion, then I rang them again told them that I wanted to cancell my membership she said that was ok. I ended up taking my son to a Ear Nose & Throat specialist in Newcastle to get his ears checked then come to my surprise I went to draw my money out and notice that there was money missing Curves took another payment out, when I got back to the Country I rang curves and they told me that they were going to put it back in my bank the next day which never happened. I kept ringing Curves leaving messages they rang twice on my mobile during my work hours were I left message saying if you contact me please ring me on my work number if in work hours, then I get a phone call saying that they can only refund me $9.95 because I have to pay a cancellation fee of $50.00...
I am not very happy with how this operates, Curves should have something that keeps them up to date of how many clients use there facilities on a regular bases.
Now I am the one that got sucked in by something that ripped me of, so I feel for all you guys that are complaining about how Curves is runned.. Very bad thats all I can say

no accountability, can not contact,
After paying out in cash $184.00 and exercising at Curves fitness centre for women at the Magill Rd St Morris centre the result was injury to calf and also arm I believe from Curves total neglect to have the staff available (as the days I went it was usual to have only one person working who needs to be responsible for the desk and entry of persons coming and going phone and walk in inquiries and also the care and welfare of the women exercising. Each time I was there this person never took the time to take me through the exercises nor did I see her instruct any one else. The other person who showed me the premises and sold me on a sales pitch of how for the first two weeks that I start the exercise program there would be an instructor to monitor and instruct me on how to make use of the equipment, and also had me fill out a form with many boxes that one ticks that is relating to ones health making it look and feel as though Curves takes their clients seriously and is going to be responsible in making sure that your health, your state of fitness, your age, wow even your mental and emotional state is accounted for in this long listed questionaire you are ask to read carefully through and tick of in the appropriate boxes what is related to your personal being So that Curves can then give you the best help and instruction and care concerning how your exercise program is made special for you. ) I was told to take my heart rate in the next three days of exercise and they would need these counts of my heart rate before I exercise and after for them to access what was needed for you physically for your health and best performance. After been told to sit on or stand on each exercise equipment on my introduction day to Curves by a employee who told me what each piece of equipment did for you, and my stating that I would not remember a word likely said to me and wanted reasurance that a instructor would be readily available to show me how to use the equipment to explain and watch and make sure I was using them correctly as I had never done this before and told OH Yes there will of course be an instructor here with you each day for two weeks and even then there is always an instructor working with all of you women as you exercise every time you are here. We wouldn't leave you alone don't be silly. Thats the difference here at Curves. We make sure and take every effort to see that you are properly instructed with the equipment. It takes time to get used to how you do these things. That is why for the first two weeks as you were told someone is by your side helping you. Well on my first day of exercise this same smiling person walked past me and gave me lots of friendly smiles and nods of encouragement, after that I only saw her once again after this for the week I exercised there was only one staff who sat behind the reception desk whilst I went around the circle and either tried to copy what others were doing and when I finally did get this persons attention, and I will add here I was to believe she was the receptionist, and told her one of the equipment was not even working she acknowledge this stating it wasnt in working order and this equipment stayed not in working order for the rest of my time at Curves. It was on my last day I found out the receptionist was actually the Manager of this Curves as a poster placed on the floor in front of one of the equipment introduced herself as so. It was also at this stage that I was experiencing a lot of pain in my stomach groin area my calves and arm. I thought during the week it was first just soreness from not being used to exercise only the pain was increasing on the last Friday I turned up. I also was told by this Manager that I was using many of the equipment wrong. either I was not using my arms or my legs in the correct position. I also found out that I was jumping off and on the so called mats between the equipments straight onto concrete floor hence causing harm to my feet calves legs etc. This person had watched me do all of these things and never said a thing to stop me from using the equipment wrong or showed any concern about me or anyone else there that was using the recovery mats like step exercise blocks which is what I thought they were. My injuries stopped my from any exercise walking totally disabled me for a month and I am still having problems. I have left my details with the Management and was reasured the Owner would contact me and I have not been contacted. I left a copy of my medical injurys from the doctor with the Manager my phone number have contacted another Curves and spoke on mobile to a Owner who told me he knew the owner of Magill Curves and that he would give her my details also and she would contact me there has been no word nor is there any email phn number for contact to the owner on the Curves internet site for this particular centre. This owner feels the right to take my $184.00 for my use of the centre for 7days and feels that right to keep this money, Total neglect of my being a client of Curves, never full filled any of the promises made in the sales pitch given about instruction, my heart rate was never taken once. I was not given any instruction or care when exercising, I want to know how this person can just take peoples money neglect to give any of what the person pays their money for and get away with not showing and giving any accountability. I am also extremely suspicious of just what training has been done for one to become a instructor at Curves. The manager a young girl whom I thought was the receptionist whom I shared a conversation with on the introductory to Curves day when I asked her if she was a trainer she told me she had done no training but was thinking about it. This is the reason I then assumed she was the receptionist. The state of this centre as in cleanliness was to be questioned the carpet floor looked filthy like no one was ever bothered to even vacuum if one decided to lay on the floor to do any floor exercises you were quick to get up it stank! The maintenance of the equipment and the actual real purpose of them is definitely questionable as when I did ask at one stage whether I was doing a particular exercise correctly as I was always having problems with this the receptionist come Manager was the one to point out to me that the equipment was not working and it was never fixed when I was there, Trying to find out who the owner is and also having anyone acknowledge my concerns and complaints is like finding a needle in a giant haystack. I am very annoyed and frustrated that this owner has not contacted me and also feels it just to keep my monies. I wonder how many others this has happen to ? Also what I can do to gain my money back. I did not pay out $184 to be hurt have my time wasted, and also placed in a situation such as this is. I think there should be a official investigation into such companies as there does not seem to be any protection or way that customers can get any real information about these places who the people are that are running them. They are able to get hold of peoples personal information from address to bank details...I would be interested in hearing if anyone else has experienced similar.

neglect
I been going to exercise at curves for about 5 yrs. Last yr and this yr (just starting ) is the worst. This is a mess and nobody cares if you exercise or not. The last 2 wks no one has open in the am. I have a medical problem and need to workout 5 days a wk. No notice is posted as to why not open so you sit outside and wait and still no show I left at 8:30a.m. I was told to canel, I need to give in writing a 30 day notice, well what do we get when no one shows up. I'm paying for a servvice I can't use. I'm not the only one, but I refuse to do nothing. I'm done. This don't work for me.

membership fee, cancellation
Many people have noted on this site that Curves takes their membership money and then keeps zapping their bank accounts long after the member has stopped going. Well, the contract (if you stop to read it) states that they'll keep doing that for the next 24 months, unfortunately and I do sympathize with you. And, unfortunately, the Curves I stopped going to (after only about six visits) kept charging my bank account for three YEARS after the 24 month period of the contract. The Curves corporate offices simply brushed it off with 'oh, that franchise is independently owned and you can contact them' and ' they're checking their records'. Oh yeah. I expect a reimbursement from them will be delivered by the Easter bunny. (hmm). Even taking into account my own negligence, after 24 months Curves should have simply stopped charging my bank account. I called that Curves gym and they no longer have me on their membership list! So why are they still charging me, three years after the contract expired? Yes, it is Curves 'fault' if you will. They'll take your money any way they can get it.

I started going to curves last year. After a while, for financial reasons I sent in my 30 day written cancellation notice. Get this, I personally handed the cancellation notice along with the the cards they have given me. I did that on February 2010; I got charged on March 4th the monthly fee and the owner of Curves had the audacity to tell me that she had sent me a notification of the "month of cancellation charge" prior to the charge. I did not get that letter 2 days after I called her. The letter was dated 2/22/10 and postmarked March 5th!, a whole day after she had told me that she "sent the letter about a week ago". Now, I received a letter dated May 11th, with a postmark May 12th, with a different letter and now she wants me to pay $97.00 dollars (47.00+50) "cancellation fee". Mind you I did give my 30 days notice and they charge an additional $47. She now wants $97 more? any suggestions?
Terrible company
The owner of Curves, Franchise, in Sacramento, CA exists only to collect dollars from desperate "fatties." I enrolled in the program, read the contract, and foolishly made a commitment for 12 months. Further, I authorized automatic payments from my bank account each month.
My issue is noncompliance with the contract by owner. Albeit it is stated above not to specify contract information, breach of contract is the issue.
There are 2-3 pages to the contract and the one section that made some impression on me was the need to have a physician's verification to enroll. While I mentioned some physical problems, the individual who reviewed the contract with me stated that it was okay to proceed with acceptance of the contract w/o medical documentation. As it turned out, I became ill during a workout session, was asked to "call it quits for the day", see my physician to see cause of wheezing and shortness of breath. Following an exam by my physician, I was asked not to continue with the program.
The above information was received by the owner of Curves in a very indignant fashion when I stated I should be refunded the start up fee since they did not insist upon a medical release as required in the contract. I advised the owner that the individual, a young student, simply took my word that I was physically fit and I started the program two days later. In backtracking some, when the owner learned that I needed to stop the program, she stated fine but you have to sign this, a small sheet of paper that she swept from my hands when learning that I wanted a refund. When I pursued the conversation by asking her for a copy of the contract where they were negligent, she refused stating that I signed the contract and they really didn't need medical approval. Her very unprofessional manner included a statement, "we did enough for you(?)" I'm truly puzzled by that statement, the short time I participated was work on my part w/o much guidance. The "trainers" were somewhat laid back in their role.

Rip off
Curves is a complete rip off. I was promised that curves would be enough of a workout for me because of their new "Curves Smart" program that stepped up the workout. I have been on that program for 5 months and have seen no results. Half the time the system is down and does not work, even when it does it is a joke.
I filed a complaint with the owner, manager, and corp. They tell me "Curves is not for everyone." This was not in their sales pitch prior to me signing a year contract that they now REFUSE to let me out of.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I joined two months ago and am already dissatisified. First of all, they are always closed. They seem to be closed more than open. After I joined, they decided not to be open on Saturday's anymore. Furthermore, they expect you to get a 3 day workout in. I understand about holiday's but they were not open Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and since not open on Saturday's, that forced me to get my workout going three consecutive days beforehand. Then the week of New Years, they closed at 1 on New Years Eve. Because I had to work that day, I was out of luck on this.
The person that signed me up did not know what she was doing. I have been measured by three people, and get three different results!
Overall, this place sucks. But reading my contract, which I should have read closer, I cannot get out of this for 12 months. That was not what I was told. I was told if I am unhappy with the place, they would let me out of it earlier. I do a bank draft every month.
Hiring Policy
I was recently hired at Curves at the Beverlywood location as a fitness motivator trainee after working for several years as a paralegal/legal assistant. In addition to working the front desk, I would help the ladies with their workout so they could reach their maximum potential.
After the initial interview where I truthfully admitted I had no experience in this field, I was advised I would be trained which I thought was terrific because I had no idea how the circuit worked.
Well, imagine my surprise that after only two days I was fired. Either (1) the manager had an ego problem; (2) the owner had no idea I was hired (I never even met her!) or (3) my age (I'm 54) and they wanted someone younger!
Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me! The majority of the women who attend Curves are about my age and even older and one would think they would like seeing an older person at the front desk AND working the circuit. But nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Customer service at Curves Beverlywood -- non-existent!
was also chatting to a member and my manager told me to leave her alone as she knew what she was doing now(she was recently new) i thought curves had a policy on continuing the care exhibited before membership? seems once we had there money we were meant to not care...
i was hired by a curves in england..again was honest about my lack of experience in the field but the manager said she was willing to put the time in training me. this was not the case. i had about 2 real "training" sessions, the rest of the time she said the gym was too busy for her to train me (maybe bringing in another member of staff wou;d have been sensible) i was dumped in the circuit on my own most of the time with absolutely no idea of what i was meant to do and my training seemed to have ended. she let me go a month later saying i should have had a handle on the job, my training booklet was still incomplete and training on fitness assesments had not even been touched on..she paraded my exit interview as a review until the very last minute when she knew i had to get my daughter from school. she even told me to continue with learning the phone script in this "review." she said it was quiet in the circuit when i was there when for the whole shift i was chatting to people but she didn't notice as she was sat on the pc the whole time and only came in the circuit to discuss a soap opera. very unproffesional and from what i have experienced a compulsive liar.
non-payment of wages
I am a former manager of Curves under the ownership of Greg and Cindee Snow located in Pace and Milton Florida. I have had many troubles cashing paychecks due to closed accounts and also getting paid for the due wages earned. I resigned in Feb. of 2009 still being owed three pay-periods worth of paychecks. I was paid one of the three two full months later. The owner refuses to answer my calls and I have still yet to see the other two paychecks. Anyone who works for this company beware- business practices under this company are shady with customers and employees. I am also not the only one to have these troubles- at the time that I quit, there were two other employees having the same troubles. We have also heard of other former employees having trouble with their paychecks bouncing and not getting paid on time or in the due wages earned.

I think it would be best to say... ALL Curves club are independently owned and operated. To lump all Curves into one group is silly.
I have worked for Curves for 3 years. You get out of a work out what you PUT INTO IT. And you did not gain the weight overnight, so it is safe to say it will not come off overnight.
Also to think that all one has to do is work out 30 minutes, 3 times a week and lose all kinds of weight is not right. If that was all it took, I would think everybody would be at their ideal weight...no?
I treat our member is the same way I wish to be treated. I give them my time and knowledge. I do everything possible to make sure they are trained and comfortable on the machines before I push them to work harder..
I am sorry to all of those who have had bad experiences with Curves, but please don't think, because your clubs are not up to par, that all of them are ran the same way...
curves not so Christian
I was hired at Curves and in 2 days was given a key and ran the gym by myself by day 4.I was well like by all the members and even had some request to have me do all their 1st few work outs.Well after being there 3 weeks I found out I was pregnant.I waited to tell anyone at work and in my family till after my 1st ultrasound to make sure all was ok.Well after the ultrasound I told my manager about the baby, she was excited and said I would have no probs continuing my job.I was going to tell the owner the next week when she came in.Well b4 I could see her I had a 2nd ultrasound and was told the baby had died. The dr told me on a Tuesday and gave me a note for work for the rest of the week due to the fact they had to remove the baby.I took the note straight in to work and a few hours later the owner left6 a message on my phone saying"I did not know you were pregnant and this is not going to work out".So all in one day I lost my baby and my job.I was so happy to get a job with curves since they claimed to be a christian company, but it turns out they are not.I still have the message on my phone and have spoke to lawyers and have been told the dep of labor will love to get ahold of this so I am going to let them.I have no respect for curves for women anymore.

I worked for Curves when they first came out in Calif. I loved it had a great owner, but then my owner bought so many clubs and moved to other states to open, my mgr and I ( assistant Mgr) ran the club just as you did. On our own. But we were a good team and shared responsibilities. Our Owner was so appreciative she rewarded us all regualarly. Then time to sale to owner after owner, with all the changes and these new owners not knowing what they got themselves into, were all broke and being cheap. How sad. But like you said Gary Haven states Chritian Values, but he is SATAN. The owners have to pay for everything, Royalties, mentors, training in other states.. etc... then at the yearly conventions he has more and more products that he states To by at discount( the urgency factor) and these owners are in the red when it comes to monthly bills!. Curves Sucks. SO I am the 1 who wrote the comment above and have been treated like a criminal just to cxl and NOT get money back! Even with a disabilty! The Lord will shut them all down in due time...
Ok, get this. I paid for a 12 month prepay and after 6 months had a medical hold for another 6 months, in which I never received a phone call or post card even making sure I was alive! I used to work for Curves when They 1st came out and they were truly legite and now all the new owners are in debt and desperate, but I do know they have to call or send postcards. So I am now pregnant and have a Dr. cxl note and requested my remaining money back. They stated only a hold will be placed since it was not a perm dis. But I was also determined perm disabled with other issues and thought the notice I gave would be enough. It wasn't, I then felt like a criminal and like the enemy. So I called another Curves that I was involved with in the past and filled out the paperwork to have my account transered and then get a per. dis. note from my Dr. and cxl from a club that I felt safe with. Low and behold the Owner of the club went POSTAL at the the other club owner, stating she will call curves corporate and file FRAUD charges on the club I wanted to transfer to. And that I should of requested a transfer before I wanted to cxl, and now they won't release my file. I have now faxed over the PERM DIS NOT and now they came up with you 12 mo prepay with a cxl is now considered a month to month membership and I would owe them money because M/M is more or to end it lets call it a WASH! I contacted Curves international and they said they are ind owned and to call the owner! So what doe the cust serv reps at Curves int'l get Pais FOR! I will smear Curves Name to everone I Know, since they are an ISORE/MONEY PIT and all the DOORS will be closed soon, Mark my WORD. What goes around comes around> BEWARE OF CURVES - they have become like all other store NO REFUNDS even with DR.'s NOTE!

That has little to do with Curves, but is "normal" when an establishment goes out of business, or a business owner goes bankrupt. That is something to keep in mind when buying gift cards. Think about how many people lost out because Circuit City went under. Is Best Buy supposed to be required to honor Circuit City gift cards? No... That would be silly. ****
So... East side curves is owned be Mr. Apple, and West side Curves is owned by Mr. Orange... Mr. Apple goes bankrupt and loses everything. All bank accounts are $0. Mr. Orange MAY accept membership transfers for no other reason that to increase his own membership numbers, but think of that as a coupon. Every dollar you gave to Mr. Apple is gone. GONE. **** If a company declares bankruptcy and they owe you money, the procedure is to go through the court system. Declare yourself a debtor in the company's filing. When assets are liquidated, debtors are paid according to "priority, " and you'll likely be on the bottom. It's really not worth the trouble unless the bankrupt company owes you thousands of dollars.
I became a member of curves a few months ago my contract was cancelled due to the fact that the facility I was workingout at closed. a representative called me a month ago and told me corporate took money out of my account and that they would put it back into my account well that 30 days has come and gone and I still didnt get my money back and addition to that they took another 34 dollers out my account so actually curves owe me 68 dollers because they had closed down.
I had the same experience. I was a member of curves for 1 month. I joined a local curves in January 09 and they closed there facility the end of February 09. I went in one afternoon to work out, and there was a notice on the door stating that they were closing the end of the month. I not only paid for my membership I paid for my mother's as well. Our membership fee was $99.50 a piece. Plus we were given 1 month free. I asked the manager could I get a refund, She said that would be up to the owner, she could not give me the owners phone number or e-mail address. She told me to contact curves international. When I finally found someone from curves international to call me back they told me to e-mail attention Diane and she would get in touch with the owner on my behalf. The owner had someone to call and tell me that they were going to refund me $135. I wanted to know how they came up with that figure. She could not tell me so I asked her if she could have the owner call me. Well, the owner never called. I never received a refund. Curves International did all they could it was up to the owners. They made the suggestion that I contact local authorities in regards to the closing of a fitness facility and my rights. I did and I am in the process of filing a complaint with the Attorney Generals Office. I am angry about this situation because they allowed my mother and me to join, and they knew they were considering closing. This should have never happened. They did not try to make arrangements for us to transfer our membership instead they made arrangements with another gym to allow us to come in at a discount. The sad thing about this is that they are giving curves a bad rap. To be honest, I actually enjoyed the workout. I did not have time to go to the gym and work out with a trainer. Curves gave me a work out as if I worked out with a trainer and it fitted in with my schedule. In one month I lost 12 pounds and my mother lost 8. However, they need to do better with their contracts. They owe me and a lot of other members an apology and a refund.
I joined Curves in April 2009. They were runnning a "special" to join... "bring in a sack of groceries and we will waive the $157.00 fee to join". I was delighted. I took in my bag of groceries and started my first day. The staff was friendly, helpful, and explained the different machines. I was hooked. I thought that a bag of groceries was really more than fair so a week later I took in another bag of food. I was so delighted with the experiences that I signed my daughter up (she was out of town and had asked me to do it for her) with yet another bag of groceries. THEN I was told that it required a $60 starting fee, in addition to the fee to join. The lovely gal behind the desk could see that I was not happy so she said that if I joined the Avon/Curves study it would only cost $30. I said okay. She said the study would last 30 days. At the end of the 30 days another saleslady said the study was through and that it would now cost me $30 to join. I explained that I had joined the Avon/Curves study and had paid already. She explained that as it was a DIFFERENT study, that I had to pay the $30 to start my membership. What could I do but fork over another $30?
Also, I had paid $30 for my daughter to join, in addition to the bag of groceries. This was her "starting" fee. When she came home, she was told that she had to pay $30. I explained that I had already paid for her. We were told that the $30 I had paid was for her "first month", not the starting fee. BUT if she would buy their magazine for $15 that would take care of the fee. I paid. So far I have spent more than I feel I should have. I think I got "took". Oh yes, the $30 turns into $36.13 with tax each month. And what was the $68 I paid to them in May for? I would love to complain to headquarters but I cannot find an address to write to. It probably won't do any good anyway!
Rude and Greedy
The owner Maureen is a master manipulator. I have a friend who had just joined and thought maybe I might like it. I went in on a despite already being concerned about their sucky hours. My introduction was only alright (I am not that out of shape, because I exercise regularly). I voiced the following concerns to the owner (who then seemed pleasant and honest) who happened to be my salesperson that day:
1. Cost (I was not sure that it was for me so I wanted to audition them for an extended time without a year commitment)
2. transferability (there is another curves location quite close to my work)
3. Intensity of the workout.
The owner's responses to my concerns:
1. Prices/promotions were standardized corporate wide
2. I could go all I wanted to the other location
3. I could come in again on Monday and I'd be shown how to work out intensly (why wasn't I shown properly the first time)
After the Monday session (I decided to join). I signed up for $99 membership and 59$ month to month. I was told that. this was the most cost effective way I could join without the year commitment ($650 Can for the year). My initial bill was 165.90 for one month. I decided to visit the other location on Tuesday and it was true that there was not any transferability issue. However, while presenting my receipt to the staff there, they seemed surprised. While working out there, I noticed that this location had signs promoting a 120 + tax for 2 month membership. WHAT? Finally, I reach someone by phone at the location I had signed up at. The person on the phone plainly told me that she wasn't aware of the promotion but did find it eventually. I told her that I wanted my membership converted to the 2 month cheaper one and she told me that it probably wouldn't be an issue since I only joined 5 day before and there was a no obligation 10 day cancellation, but I needed to talk to the owner and she would let the owner know. GREAT! I went in on the Saturday to work out and met up with the owner. She flat out told me 'No' I couldn’t have the promotion I wanted because I already signed up for the 1 month one. GREEDY! When I told that I would then like to simply cancel my membership. She told me that there was no refunds. MORE GREED! I then told her that I was aware of the 10 cancellation and (since this was only the 6th day) I was really going to insist on the cancellation. She started then telling me that she would then give me the 2 month deal. No deal! I could now see that she was liar and a manipulator. She then refused to acknowledge my cancellation notice which I luckily prepared in advance. She refused to re-credit my credit card. There were several other lies she said trying to give me the run around (she would send me a check via mail). Credit card transactions could be reversed. She tried several time to get me out of her facility, calling her lawyer and probably would have called the police to have me force removed had she no being so obviously in the wrong (I wanted her to call the police so I would get them to arbitrate and document the incident unbiased. What an ordeal for me, 2 hours of stress, being yelled at and being called names. She even threatened to come to my house and refused to remove my personal information from her computer. She even called me after the incident to try to harass me some more. In the end, She HAD to cut me a check for pick up the next day because another member intervened and she was clearly losing face. Lesson learn is:
Don’t be a victim. Read what you are signing carefully.
Don't believe the salesperson. They lie.
Protect yourself and put everything in writing.
Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself when in the land of vultures.
Most importantly-Make the decision to remain a member a few days before you cancellation grace period ends. If there's any doubt, cancel anyway.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I have been a member at Curves High Park. My experience was the following:
does the job but, for the $ you will pay, not a very motivating environment, their rules are rigid, some staff are fine at High Park/Dundas west location but others are inflexible, making for inconsistent service and experience; i have overheard staff and customers arguing (whether or not the customer is right, I would not expect staff to be arguing with a customer infront of other customers; doesn't reflect well on their brand); workouts and equipment are dated so, don't maintain interest in the long run.
This is in response to "Luck to Escape", the woman who wrote about her experience with Curves High Park last december. I have been a member of this particular club since it opened in February 2003. During hundreds of workouts over the years, I have seen and overheard numerous presentations to women who are interested in joining. I have always thought the staff to be courteous and supportive of the physical and health needs of women who come into the club, both members and prospective members.
What is ironic, is that after reading the review of "Lucky to Escape", I was under the strong impression that that I was actually working out the day that she went into the gym to express her concerns regrading her membership. All i can say is that the wording in the complaint and the words I recall hearing that day are very similar. Why would I remember? Because the woman that came into the club acted in a very irrational manner. She was ranting, pacing back and forth and would not allow the staff to speak. She continued to shout throughout her visit in an obvious attempt to draw attention to herself and her complaint. Finally, she left. We all silently looked at one another, somewhat in bewilderment. I do not know the outcome, but I can say that the staff was respectful to her during the time she was in the club and after she left.
I'm not suggesting that her complain was not legitimate, however, it should be known that Curves has been a wonderful haven to many of us for the past six-and-a-half years. I would not want anyone to be dissuaded from checking out the gym based on the comments made above.
Blind Justice of WynnFitness Club (Keele St)
I m member of Wynn fitness club and when I come to register myself they give me the membership info and I m satisfied for that its only $41.94 every month, so I don't mind that.I m satisfied with this amount.
But, the other information about the nutritionist and personal training was not that clear it should be, being a new member you are not aware of allot of things and rules, it’s the duty of the person to explain all the points before get signature in the agreement. In agreement you will see.
1- They charge me for 32 sessions with Personal trainer= $73.50
2-They charge me for 4 sessions with nutritionist =$52.50
$73.50 + $ 52.50 = $126.00.
So, the total will b per month =$126.00 per month.
but when I get the bill its was $213.51 that’s give me a big shock and then I check my agreement its says in payment schedule $ 213.51 (but there is no explanation how come its $213.51 instead of $126.00 per month it was so confusing).
The manager didn't give me enough information about the payments, he just fill out the application and took my signature, after one month when the payment deducted by my account through my credit card, then I was shocked it was quite a lot and out from my budget too.
I m not able to pay &213.51 + $41.94 =$254.94 every month this is quite a lot. I run my family too and their expenses, now I m so depressed and confused, that with kids and family I cant manage this amount for myself only, (My wife is also the member of gym and she pay the gym payment too)If I calculate her charges with me its become almost $350 every moth which is quite a lot for a family.
Because its totally wrong by the person who didn't provide me the actual information about the payments, I m not that stupid to know my budget and sign the contract which is exceed to my limits, because I have to maintain my budget too, and deal with my family life too.
I speak to one of the manager on phone and he was very uncooperative and rude behavior and he was just saying "you sign the contract", "you sign the contract" you have to pay everything for one year, he even didn't understand my financial problem. He also harass me and threat me that if you will not pay this amount "we gona sou you", this is very unprofessional attitude. This is not the solution of problem.
Anyway, I went to the gym speak to someone and what she did is, split my amount in to $150 every month and for more then one year this is not the solution which I want...
Now, to be very honest with you I m not able to pay such amount due to out of budget, I still have sessions with personal Trainer, I want to cancel all of them the nutritionist and trainer. But I do pay him for the sessions he provide me till now this is his right. But want no more training but they don't cancel my trainings too they said you sign the contract you have to pay of full for training sessions why I pay for the training sessions which I didn't had with trainer. I m also not satisfied with their services which is very unsatisfactory, they are very uncorporative. They are very unfriendly they have alot of attitude.I can adjust in this kind of enviroment too. They are very expensive in rates as compare to other gyms too and they have not even proper things like there is no steam rooms, not enough shower rooms only 2, and not enough wash rooms. Their behaviour and services are very unsatisfactory. So, I don't wana go there anymore even I'll not use thar gym anymore due to bad attidtude.
Now I have no job, due to economic crisis and too much bills to pay, Pls advice me what I can do, Because due to poor financial condition I can't pay this amount every month and Pls I will appreciate if u will help me out from this condition and understand my financial situation too.
Looking forward for ur kind responce.
Thanks for review my mail.
Cheque fraud
A year and a half after my membership ended, this location of Curves on Applecreek (in Markham Unionville), put through monthly charges again, against my bank account.
According to our Bank Manager this is blatant cheque fraud. There are SEVERAL cases of this in Markham Unionville with this Curves.
DO NOT GIVE VOID CHEQUES TO THIS LOCATION OF CURVES. A CON ARTIST ownes this franchise.
This location had done this previously (CHEQUE FRAUD) to a single parent neighbour on my street - FOR ONE YEAR of fees.
PLEASE BE WARNED!
Same thing has happend to me -- and I cannot get anyone on the phone at this location to find out what is going -- I agree I think some kind of fraud is happening -- I will never join curves again and I may call the police to report this --
The gym with the ghetto ethic
This is a letter I sent to the company because of strange practices I'd encountered… Anyone out there with similar experiences? I was so shocked because it seemed (here's to advertising) so open and friendly... Not.
Hi. I have been to two places here in Brooklyn, one on Norman avenue and one on grand ave, in attempts to try out the club and see if it worked for me and a friend. I don't know if it's because I'm in shape (that's honestly the impression I was feeling) that they seem to discourage me at all from joining or if it's some sort of "secret society" but they weren't at all interested in trying to work with me. What is this about?
I called ahead on the second one just to ask and make sure it wasn't as shady as the first and it seemed nice enough when the lady on the phone said if I came in she would give me a free week pass. I asked if there was a good time and she just said they were closed from 1-3 and then I asked when they were closed and she said 8. So I showed up at seven and told the girl at the counter (apparently a different person) that my friend was running late but I could go ahead and she started in with talking about how I needed a certain amount of time to do everything (45 min... I had an hour, by the way) and throwing various other excuses my way as to why I couldn't do it then (this had happened in pretty much the same way at the first club as well). She apparently wasn't interested in keeping my business. Is this common with your clubs? My friend and I really were looking forward to this kind of workout as we liked the first time we tried it and just wanted a period of time to see if it worked for us in our schedules. However, it seems like none of your clubs have a work - or even business - ethic. I don't want to waste my time on bad employees or shabby business and I generally report directly to consumers' unions when meeting with bad business practices, as I don't want other people to have to endure stupidity either, but I wanted to check with the corporation first to see if these were simply noncompliant clubs (they are franchises). Please feel free to write at your leisure, as I will wait a few days before reporting to my normal consumer agencies. Thank you.
Honestly what's up? These people act so strange like they're selling drugs behind the scenes or something... Why discourage people from paying for your business?

heya the curves franchise doesnb't care because they are a franchise so its not there problem..thats the attitude that has been exhibited to me...
I own a Curves in Columbia Maryland. Our club is open to ALL women. My club has a very diverse membership. We have young and old alike as well as those who are working on their weight and fitness goals and those who have met their goals and are now working to maintain. We are here to help all women.
My club truly lives up to the Curves reputation! I work hard to make sure of that. Everyone is greeted with a smile and we are always ready to go the extra mile for the members as well as potential members.
Always look for Curves clubs that are "shining Star" clubs like mine. These are premier clubs that adhere to the highest standards.
I'm very in shape and I've been attending curves in Reno, NV for the past 2 years. The club I patron has a mix of skinny and larger woman, some in shape and some not so in shape. Never have I once seen my club employees turn away or treat a woman badly because she was fit. It didn't happen to me when I joined, nor any of my friends and family members who attend different clubs throughout the country. I also have a sister who works at another Curves here in Nevada.
I think you either are making this complaint up for some strange reason or you simply imagined this stuff. Here's why: when a Curves employee signs up a new costumer, they earn quite a big commission. Something like 10-20 percent. That's quite a lot of money and I do not know about you, but I wouldn't turn anyone away if there was cash to made. Secondly, if you arrived one hour before they closed and she felt that there wasn't enough time to get you started, then that is why she turned you away. I know, for me, it took a good hour and a half to sign all of my papers, fill out health information, get weighed and measured and complete the full circuit. And I had to make an appointment to sign up. The Curves employees also cannot be the only person there when doing a sign up because there has to be another employee to tend to the other patrons. So, if she was alone, that is probably another reason she couldn't sign you up at the moment.
You sound like a very spoiled and entitled girl/woman. You also sound very young and immature. I'd be willing to bet that the employees asked you to make an appointment but you wanted them to serve right away. Well, that isn't how life or the club works. You are not anymore deserving than anyone else. If you really want to join, get over yourself, grow up, and call to make an appointment!
As for secreter, you are completely incorrect! Curves employees get bonuses for every pound a costumer they sign up loses. And when you do not show up for a week, they start calling you and telling you to come work out. Educate yourself.
You weren't fat, that was the problem.
They don't want someone who is obviously going to keep a regular shedule. They want large women who they can get to sign a year long contract and then they work these women so hard on the equipment that they lose interest in the club (but still pay their monthly fees, cuz they signed a contract!)
For some reason, a high percentage of very large women that sign up at gyms will stop going after a few hard sessions. Curves has noticed this and therefore built a business model around it (GETTING PAID OFF CONTRACTS, NOT FOR ACTUAL WORK).
Scam and cheating!
I joined Curves in August 2003 for a years membership. The cost was $78 up front and $29 per month. After a year I did not renew my membership. In checking my account recently I noticed a $29 monthly debit to my checking account. Calling the bank I found that this had been going on since the time I joined Curves. Needless to say this adds up to quite a bit of money. In calling Curves I was told that unless I canceled my membership in writing they continued to charge the monthly fee. At no time when I joined was I told this would be the case. (Yes, I know I should have been more vigilant in checking my bank statement).
This is bad business and believe me I will warn everyone I know to stay away from Curves.
This happened to me too! I joined in August 2009 with a friend. She had this same expereince at an earlier time with them. The day that we signed up again (I had previously been a member and after my friends experience had cancelled by a letter sent certified mail, return receipt) We were told by an employee (agent) that this was no longer how you had to cancel that at the end of 12 months our contracts wouyld have to be resigned to be renewed. (This was an out and out lie) she said if we cancelled during the year we had to pay $10.00 for every month we had been a member and pay the remainder of the contract.) I quit going b/c I just hated in february 2010. I did not pay close attention to the checking account b/c we quit doing the bulk of our business with that bank but kept the account. For 9 months they have continued to draft the account. Today to get out from under Curves I have had to close a checking account that we have had since 1985! There contracts are misleading and the people that own the franchise could care less if you come as long as they get your $38.00 a month! I wish one of the Class Action attorneys would go after every Curves in America for misleading contracts!
It is curve's fault. I cancelled my membership via fax in April 2006 and here it is August 2010 and they have been billing me ever since. To the tune of $2500. Curves is a horrible business and I have just been screwed by them. I cannot wait until they go down.
It isn't on the contract in fine print. It is in regular print. It clearly states that it automatically renews unless you give a 30 day written notice. No one explained it to me and I saw it clear as day. Sorry this happened. But, live and learn. It is NOT Curve's fault - I don't think it fair to act as though they cheated you.
Same with me & I'm currently in the process of getting this info. out to as many folks as I can. Professional thieves is what they are.
This same thing happened to me with Curves here in Oregon. Yes, I should have followed through. However, at the time I signed up I specifically asked if they would stop the withdrawals at the end of the contract and also asked if there was anything specific I should do at that time and they told me no, nothing was needed by me. They indicated that the contract would end as would the withdrawals. That was not the case. This was a hard lesson to learn for me, to not trust those you have known all you life in a small town. I have yet to get this resolved. Has anyone you know of gotten their money back?
The problem wasn't that you didn't check your bank statement. The problem is that they do a big "talk up" and unless you take the time to read the "fine print" on their contract, you lose, no matter what you do. There is a box to check that says "No automatic renewal" or words to that effect. EFVERYONE should know to read the contract and check that box! Alternatively, insist that they give you a letter in writing that assures you won't have an automatic renewal.
But, utlimately, I agree----stay away from this group!
Membership cancellation!
I joined Curves in January 2006. I went for 6 months and then stopped going in September of 2006 and have not been back since. I noticed that they still were taking out monthly payment after a year. I assumed they were like most gyms that after a year you go in and sign another year contract or they contact you to see if you wish to continue your membership. Instead they continue to collect your money. I stopped payment and paid my bank the $15 fee to do so in October of 2007. I then received a notice in the mail from the district attorney's office for the county I live in stating that I had been charged with writing a hot check by Curves and that if payment was not received by the end of November that there would be a warrant out for my arrest. I called the district attorney's office and was told that I have to give Curves notice in writing and that I had to pay $50 to cancel my membership. I explained to them that I did not bounce a payment, stopped payment. So in all it is going to cost me 31.32 (membership fee), $15 (county processing fee), $25 (returned check fee), plus $50 cancellation fee for a grand total of $121.32 to get out this mess. I think this is a bunch of crock and I am going to fight this tooth and nail if I have to. They already got my money for when I was not going there and they are not going to get any more money out of me. I want to make sure this does not happen to anyone else. Please do not do business with this organization as this company will bleed you dry.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Never join curves at Encino Park, Please see the reasons below:
- There is no water provided for the people who work out
- There is no minimum courtesy for the customer provided.
- They always open two minutes late than starting time early in the morning every day.
- They never allow the customer to work out if the customer is late by 2 minutes than scheduled last work time, The manager wasnot ready to talk to customer at that moment. She told the customer to talk afterwards.
- There were times when they opened curves one hour late on saturday
- The trainers are changed every month. There is no employee retension. Every week you turn around, you will see a new face, which are not trained properly.
Hate the new Curves program with Jillian shouting at us while we do the circuit. Know your demographics - you are driving us "ladies of a certain age" away! My friends and I enjoy exercising and socializing together. We now are limited to about 2 half-hours each afternoon to exercise without enduring Jillian or Zumba. We will give it another month and then we're off to another gym.
I have been unfairly dismissed from the curves fitness for women, at southampton. I was treated as a school girl being told not to talk in class. Because i disagreed with her, she has banned me. I was picked out, as all of my friends there talk to each other. Why am i the only one to be banned?
I have not been a member of curves in years I joined years ago when you in were at 373 HWY 138 SW Riverdale, GA. I have not been successful in trying to cancel my membership. I am still being billed and the facility has been closed for several years. I contacted Curves and have been unsussessful in getting answers.
I stopped payment more than 6 months ago and they continue to take out the money for CURVES. How can I get my money back.
I cancelled my membership as I had a hip replacement and wasn't able to go. Cancellation to them doesn't mean cancellation. They put it as they only put it on hold and then they started taking the money out of my account again after a year. I did try to go back as I was being charged but cannot. I have sent them a Doctors Certificate that stated do not put on hold but cancel. Next step is to go to the bank and stop payment. In my opinion, the staff are not very truthful about most things and should be taken to task.
Thanks for this! I was going to buy my mom a Curves membership because she's began to really take care of herself through dieting, and I felt exercise was the next healthy step. Now I will look into a more conventional gym membership that doesn't try to completely screw you over if you change your mind. Also, I too am appauled by several of the generalized comments on anyone canceling their membership is a lazy bum. For one, it's none of your business why a person chooses to cancel any service, and two, I'm sure nearly everyone has a good reason why they'd cancel. I'm very healthy and work out often, but had to cancel my membership to the gym when exercising began complicating my otherwise healthy pregnancy by giving me terrible early-onset contractions. I was not a couch potato but rather looking out for my future baby, but even if I did cancel out of laziness, who cares?! That would have been my perognative. Such judgmental people here, probably Curves reps.
I started my membership in January of 2011. I made sure to confirm with the lady setting it up that there was no early cancelation fee. I asked because I had a feeling that their lack of flexible hours and their sof-core workouts, would not work with my schedule (Work full-time, school full-time, 2 babies, church, etc). After a month, I found this to be very true. Under the impression that I didn't have a contract because I was signed up with a friends and family deal, I faxed them my 30 day notice. Later that day, I got a call stating that I owe them $50 for canceling. Nothing was said that until I pay the $50 they would continue to withdraw $39.90 from my bank account. I argued that I didn't have a contract in the first place and the accountant assured me that NO ONE WOULD EVER TELL ME I DIDN'T HAVE A CONTRACT. Whatever. I agreed to pay because I just wanted to cancel and start my gym membership at a closer, CHEAPER, gym with many more activities and classes and opportunities to kick my butt into shape...and it was only $50. Here I am 3 months later, still haven't paid the $50 because I don't see why I should have to when they've already taken $120 AFTER my 30 day notice, and they're still withdrawing money from my account. I called them, livid, and ripped them up and down, to no avail. I WILL NEVER REFER ANYONE TO THEIR BUSINESS. Who in the world still charges you a monthly membership fee after you've canceled? You pay an early termination fee (ETF) BECAUSE you terminated - past tense- not because you WANT to terminate! Otherwise it would be called an Early Intention to Terminate Fee! Ridiculous!
Just wanna say thanks to everyone for sharing. I was considering a Curves membership, but now I will think twice and look elsewhere.
Thank you, Mmb.
Never ever patronise any business that requires you to sign an open ended contract. In other words a contract with no termination date. You "WILL" find yourself on the loosing end of the deal. An exercise facility is no different from any other business. Ask yourself: Would you let the gas station to take money from your account for an indefinate period whether you filled up or not? Would you let the grocer to take money from your account from your account for an indefinate period if you didn't get groceries? Would you continue to pay MasterCard or Visa if you didn't charge anything? And if you do decide to stop you must give notice and pay a cancellation fee. Fifty years ago people that did business this way were put in jail. Why are there no pay-as-you-go gyms? Because the pay-as-you-go gyms went out of business. Why? Because they couldn't stick their fingers in your cookie jar.
Curves ripped me off!
I signed a 1 year agreement in September 2003. I went to close my bank account 7/30/2007, and found out that the company has been deducting the monthly dues from my account every month since. At the end of my contract, the manager called me to see if I would be renewing, and I told her NO. She did not inform me that I must come in and put the cancellation in writing. It has now been almost 3 years since the END of my 1 year contract, and they have deducted over $1400 from my account since September 2004. They now tell me I'm SOL. This company is NOT Christian based as it claims, but instead screw out of your hard earned money!
I joined Curves of Millbury MA in 2011 after recovering from a devastating leg injury I sustained in 2010. I had a leg full of titanium. After one visit it was clear I couldn't work out without pain, so my doctor wrote a note excusing me for several months. I hand delivered the note. Before the end of that time I had moved to another state, and I called Curves wanting to quit as I did not heal as fast after a second operation. I had to remove the metal and needed to attend physical therapy instead of Curves. I was told I was not a member anymore, and did not have to worry, in fact they assured me I didn't even have to come in with a note, I wasn't in the system! Lo and behold I am one of those lazy ladies who does not check my bank statement and discovered that I had been charged up until June 2014. When I called to complain, I was laughed at and basically told I was a liar. I am contacting an attorney.
That is absolutely insane what is it with some companies are they so money hungry they forget they are supposed to be professionals!? my friend donna goes there i am going to forward your complaint to her and everybody else!
Doesn't she check her bank statement?
Do not sign up - you'll regret it!
Complaint: Do not sign up for the Fitness Study Program! You'll regret it!
I am not a curves member and here is the reason why:
I signed up for the fitness study program, after I received a flier in the mail. It sounded like a great idea at the time.
I completed the program, did everything I was supposed to do, and have yet to receive my refund check in the mail that I was told I would get at the end for completing the study.
I have called the branch I went to every week since I stopped going, I have been told "It will be within 5 business days", to "I don't know anything about that", to "It will be here later on in the week", to "It will here on X day" A straight consistent answer would be nice for once.
The last time I called was May 22nd, the employee working told me she would call me back after talking with the manager. The manager apparently told her that I would receive my check Friday, May 25, it is May 26th and I have not received my check!
I had planned on joining curves when I could afford it because I like Curves, but since I never received my refund money from the study and I'm still asking for it, I will never join. This is unbelievable that I am still waiting for my refund check and it's almost a month later. I paid cash!
I saw someone get their money the same day the program ended for them, and yet here I am still waiting for mine. What is that about? I have brought that up many times and of course no one knows anything.
Saturday, April 7th, was my first day of the study, my last day was Wednesday, May 2nd, it is going on four weeks since I last went to Curves.
This is not a good way to gain customers! I don't know what is going on but this is false advertising if I ever seen it. What a scam!
Please, I would like to receive my money and move on from this. This is very unfair.
Thank you.
the curves fitness study was awesome. i lost all the weight i needed to lose, got toned right up, and barely spent any money. the reason you didn't get a refund check is probably because THERE ISN'T ONE. they probably gave you whatever answer they could just so they could get off the phone with you. maybe you should quit ### and get off your ### - that would do more for your getting in shape.
I am doing the fitness study now and had friends that did t last year and never heard of them getting their money back in the end. They also have not told me that I'm going to get my money back. You can use it towards a membership is all I was ever told about the thirty bucks. I think you misunderstood the deal I'm looking at the add right now and there is nothing about a refund.
I am an AVON Independent Sales Representative and the Curves Location that I work with is also Independently Owned & Operated. I am allowed to put my brochures at her establishment and we occassionally have sale days so that her members can see the EXCLUSIVE ITEMS AVON has to offer. I know that from last year nobody was offered a refund of their 30 days for $30.00. You are supposed to go 3 times a week for a 4 week period. And there was no membership fee if they wished to continue. AVON Representatives are allowed to participate for the same 30 days but with no charge. I guess that Curves would at a later date take all of the information statistics of gain/loss of the members for their averages and information as to how well the program works but was NEVER AT ALL aware of or given the impression that there would be a refund. From what I have seen and experienced at the Curves establishments I have been involved with the owners and their employees are always well trained and very caring, concerned and involved with their clients.
Individual Curves franchises chose to run a fitness study in which a participant's $20 cash deposit was returned after completing (usually) a 21-day program as prescribed. Then, there was a Curves/Avon Fitness Study where the participant paid $30 for a 30-day program with NO REFUND after the study. So, if you paid $20, it was probably the first type of study where the money would not be refunded if all requirements of the study weren't fulfilled. Perhaps, this is what happened to you. Do you have an agreement outlining the requirements of the participants? If you worked out the appropriate number of times, completed the questionnaires and whatever else they required, you should get your money back. Curves International (corporate) is very sensitive to complaints; they value their customers. This is a bad owner or a misunderstanding and should not reflect negatively on the thousands of honestly dedicated Curves franchise owners that love their members and work hard to help them physically & mentally.
I work at a Curves and this is the FIRST TIME I'm hearing about anyone recieving a full refund at the end of the Fitness Study. I don't doubt you deserve a full refund if that is what THAT particular Curves told you. At stated most Curves are individually owned and the owners may have slightly different protocols. I'm just sorry to hear about your bad experience at this particular Curves. I've had friends and family join for the 30 days and walk away at the end of the Fitness study with no pressure sale to join. If anyone shop around and compare prices $30.00 is actually a great deal for those who want to 'jump start' a exercise program with accountability. Has anyone else heard about any other Curves giving back the full refund for those participating in the Fitness Study? I would appreciate any response!
I joined and never heard anything about getting my 30 bucks back, but honestly I don't care! Yeah it's a study, but do you know how much it usually costs to have a month long membership? I think it's well worth it, thay just told me it would be applied to my sign up fee if I decided to join later, which is more than I expected. Yeah they are helping out the university, but they still have to run a business! 1 on 1 treatment is already an awesome deal, and you want it for free? Maybe if thats how they advertised, but it IS a franchise, so you can't judge all by one. My mom lost a ton of weight through curves and loved them, so I am excited to try them out, I just joined today!
Curves is a franchise which means there are different owners at each location. Not all Curves will take your money. That was just a bad experience at ONE Curves. Too bad they are giving all the other locations a bad name. I have been a member for 2 years and love it. There is nothing else like it. The program is great! Sorry to hear that the Curves you went to is not doing there job correctly. The fitness study is a great deal!
Curves is bad about taking you money and giving nothing in return!
did you lose any weight or feel any better about yerself? get in shape? i have just joined today and then i find this online.
write me back and tell me all about yer x perience at curves.
because if you lost weight or any thing dont you think that it was well worth yer 20 bukz?
i mean yea they lied to you. and thats ### but im struggling with my weight bad and im desperate to try this is a great oppritunity to change my whole lifestyle .
