Custom sofa
I worked with a designer from Ethan Allen in Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. Lynn Messnick the designer came to my home with the samples and everything coordinated perfectly. When the sofa was delivered the fabric was not the same. The colors in my home are a taupe beige and the fabric we chose was also a taupe beige. However the fabric on the sofa came a golden beige. After several calls to service the came with a sample of the fabric and took pictures next to my sofa. Long story short, they claim the difference in the fabric is due to the dye lot. I didn't choose the fabric that I received. If the dye lot was not the same they should have sent me a sample. My sofa was delivered on Jan. 12, 2017. This is a winter home, and I will be going up north next month and would like a resolution to this problem. It seams everyone from the service department to Bill Meyer the manager, have washed their hands of my complaint. I spent $3, 840.90 on the sofa and $298.98 for the fabric protection plan.

We ordered 5 different kinds of merchandise on Dec 23, 2016. Alexis Cassell came to our house and did all kind of measurement for our bedroom because we wanted to change our old dressers, table lamps and King bed set. We spent $9, 000 overall. The order took place 2 months and the delivery was today, Feb 23 2017. 2 delivery guys came to our house at 2 pm. 1. The Heston dresser item #395333 was carried upstairs to our Master bedroom . The guys were having a hard time to carry it through our stairs and hit our wall and made a dent and big scratches.
2. The King Charlton bed was carried upstairs and was about to be installed when they found out they did NOT have the hardware to work and install the bed frame. So they had to call Hayward warehouse and ask someone to deliver the tool box to our house and we had to wait an hour for the guy to come. Once the hardware was here, the guys were about to install and they found out it was the WRONG size of bed frame that Alexis ordered for us
It was such a ridiculous mistake made by a designer who claimed to have 30-year-experience working as a designer at Ethan Allen
3. We found so many chips and dent made on Heston drawer during delivery so we showed it to the guys and they took pictures of where all the dents and chips they made . We also report it on the claim ticket.
The delivery guys left our house around 5 pm while it could have been done in 1.5 hours or so if they prepare everything ahead of time and the wrong size of bed was not ordered because they had to call around the manager . Also to figure out why they could not find the hardware to install the bed. It was such a waste of our time! We both took a day off just for this
The delivery guys were nice and courteous. But the fact that the warehouse did not prepare the complete shipment including the hardware of the bed, it was really dissappointing!
We reported the incidents to the store manager at Dublin and store warehouse at Hayward. Please have someone take this matter seriously or we will file claim furthermore to compensate our time and money. We both are not satisfied at all with the service that you have provided this time . Please do NOT send Alexis Cassell anymore to our home to do anymore measurement. Thank you!

Unacceptable customer service
I purchased a bedroom collection (Townhouse) in july 2016, which is my first purchase. From this first purchase collection, I received the lucy bedside chest and rowan double dresser. However, after this purchase was made, I was informed the bed head/foot frame was no longer available. As a result of the first purchase not being available before financial transactions were made, I contemplated but gave ethan allen another chance.
To keep with the quality and provide a second chance for ethan allen to value my business, I made another bedroom selection in october 2016. I was informed by michael, sales manager of the elkridge, maryland location that the second bedroom set would be delivered by christmas. It is now the 27th and after making several attempts to contact michael personally, he has not returned any of my calls to assist in resolving this matter.
I expect more professionalism from ethan allen employees and nothing less from it's management team.
My ordeal with ethan allen started in july until december and still unresolved at this moment.
As I informed michael, I was sleeping on the mattress on the floor, going on the assumption my bedframe, etc. , would be delivered soon. It is now 5 months later and we still don't have a bedframe and no communication from ethan allen as to when this ordeal will be resolved.
I am dissatisfied with the service, lack of customer service and how I am being treated as a customer. Due to the lack of communication from ethan allen, I would like to cancel the second purchase and am requesting ethan allen to pickup the two items delivered at no charge to me and refund in full the monies paid for the dresser and chest.

Drapery contract
On 11-07-13 I entered into new contract with David Burton of Ethan Allen to fix a botched drapery order they were to be replaced at no charge after they lost 20 yards of my fabric. On May 27 th I found out they gave the charge off to a collection agency who is going forward with a judgement even though I have a no charge contract as I had already paid thousands.
Leather sofas and chair - defective leather
We purchased 2 sofas, a recliner and 2 ottomans all in leather. After several months, the dye began to rub off the cushions, edge piping and on the seams, turning the deep brown color to bright orange. WE notified Ethan Allen around month 8, and they admitted that the leather was defective and replaced the entire set, indicating that they resolved the leather issue. Now after another 12 months, the new set is doing the same thing. The dye on the piping is rubbing off, there are patches of dye rubbed off the cushions and the seams on the cushions showing a nice bright orange. Ethan Allen says it is too late, the 1 year warranty is expired. The manager said to try to file a claim with Guardsmen, the extended warranty that we purchased. But this will not be covered as it is not an incident of damage, but DEFECTIVE LEATHER! We paid over $16000 for these leather items. Please beware of Ethan Allen! I have owned leather sofas since 1980 from less expensive vendors and NEVER have seen this happen!
Same issues with a $7000 sofa I purchased within the same time frame! I’m on sofa number 3 and now the same issues have surfaced. They’ve agreed this time to replace the leather cushion covers but not the sofa. However, now I’ve found the fading and piping cracking on the arms of the piece so only a new sofa will be acceptable to me. The customer svc is superb here but I want a sofa that represents the money that I paid for it. The sofa should hold up and last for decades at this price.
Leather... or Plastic?
I used to be a very loyal Ethan Allen customer, but their product quality and service has deteriorated to the point I won't spend another dime with them. The last item I purchased was a leather sofa. Their later brochure touts, "Ethan Allen leather gets more beautiful with time." In reality, I'm pretty certain the "leather" sofa I purchased isn't even leather. It has a flaky, wrinkly look to it, and when scratched, a white plasticy material shows through the "leather." (It is unlike any other leather I own or have experienced.) It looks and feels like plastic. Customer service was unresponsive unless consistently contacted and after weeks or proving, finally stated that there wasn't an issue with the leather. Their quality, and service, has deteriorated and they don't stand behind their products. I shopped at Ethan Allen because I wanted a quality product. What I got was junk.

Kitchen table
I purchased a $1, 500 Ethan Allen kitchen table, as we cleaned the table the finish softened and can be peeled off with a finger nail. I called and advised them of such, a sub contractor came out and took pictures, 6 weeks later they called and said it was due to customer abuse. I guess I shouldn't clean my table. I will NEVER purchase anything there again!
Same here. I have a Marshall desk & it is only 6 years old. Some water dripped on it from a small ceiling leak. The top totally warped & split after jist an hour or two of water dripping on it. Highly disappointed.
Been an Ethan Allen customer over 40 years. We gave our first dining room table to our son after forty years. It was in excellent condition. Bought a new table, 6 chairs, and breakfront. The cost was over 6 or 7 grand. After 1 1/2 years the Color is fading. Ethan Allan is blaming us ! They refuse to hop with this matter. We are highly disappointed. Will never go there again. Highly disgusted.

Delivery delay (6 weeks late, at best!)
On June 16, 2015, I ordered a coffee table, an occasional table, a custom sofa, and two custom benches. The tables arrived within 4 weeks, well within the 8-12 week timeframe. It's now Week 12 (September 18), and today I discovered it will be October 6 before I get the sofa, and November 16 for the benches. All the while I have been faithfully paying my monthly bill of almost $400 on the promotional financed amount. I have been a loyal fan of Ethan Allen for over a decade, but this will be my last order with them, if it ever arrives. The store states I cannot cancel for refund because the custom orders are "in production." How long can it take to build these items? Certainly not 18 weeks. I want a refund.
Petra Chairs
We bought approximately $12, 000 worth of furniture from Ethan Allen in Oct. 2014 and most was delivered in Dec 2014 and Jan 2015. Our first issue was with delivery of the chairs. The delivery person turned one of the chairs upside down on the asphalt and damaged the arm. Customer service was unpleasant but did agree to repair the chair, not replace it. The sofa, bench, rugs, chandelier, tables, ottomans and draperies are average quality, certainly not up-scale BUT the Petra chairs are horrible. The quality and workmanship is that of a $300 chair with cushions stuffed with fiberfill and not an abundance of that. These are the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in and now we have a room designed by Ethan Allen with chairs that everyone avoids! I did contact the Design Center and was told that customer service said that the problem was" customer choice", but they did offer to sell me replacement cushion inserts with a whopping 10% discount. We have decided that we would rather donate the chairs to a charity than have further contact with this company.
This is a warning to anyone who might consider buying from Ethan Allen. I know it is difficult to find good quality furniture in today's world, but don't be fooled by the presentation in their Design Centers. This is an over-priced, inferior quality furniture company.
Poor service
The Ethan Allen Garden City New York store is very quick to take your order - over $50, 000 was have no follow up on delivery despite repeated attempts, Waited 20 weeks for a sectional and window treatments, No one cared or responded to my e-mails or phone calls,

I ordered a table and cabinet which cost more than $5000. The table arrived scratched and had to be repaired by Ethan Allen-- at great inconvenience to me because of having to take time off from work to arrange for the repair. A knob fell off the cabinet a few weeks after delivery because the screw was defective. Rather than have to call the company again and miss work, I tried to replace the screw myself. It was a non-standard size so I had to live with a door that wasn't functional. Finally, after living with this non-functional door for more than a year, I decided I would bite the bullet and have Ethan Allen replace the screw. They told me I would need to pay $10. It was irritated by their pettiness but agreed and gave them my credit card info over the phone. They then said they would fax me a sales order which I needed to sign and return to them--- for a $10 screw! I protested and asked them to just send me the screw and not put me through any more inconvenience. The rep refused. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM EA AGAIN! Their quality is poor and their customer service is worse.
Maybe if you did not go around skipping work for petty problems you would be able to afford the $10 they are charging you. If you are not willing to pay the $10 because you are too busy playing hooky from work to earn the money to afford the $10 then they don't have to give it to you for free.
Delivery delay
I ordered a dining room table and 6 upholstered chairs at the end of August. It is now Christmas and I have the table but the chairs won't be ready until after the first of the year. They have been paid 2/3rds of what is owed and I get to serve dinner on card table chairs! If I had know this was going to be my experience I would never have purchased from them...and I certainly won't do so again.

Customer service
I am writing on behalf of my 84 year old Mother. She was shopping at Ethan Allen for a chair. The salesperson took advantage of her. She told the salesperson about her bad back, and the salesperson said she had the same problems with her back. She told my Mother that ever since she started sleeping on her Ethan Allen mattress the pain has miraculously vanished! She talked my Mother into buying the same mattress. My mother was confused and ordered a queen size instead of a full size, which is what she needed. When it was delivered she recognized the error. The delivery man said that the error would be corrected and to keep the queen while the full would be ordered. So she has been sleeping for months on a queen mattress on top of a full box spring. The next day she called the woman who waited on her and the woman assured Mom that "they will make it right.". After numerous phone calls to ethan allen spanning weeks, they finally called her back and said that they cannot take back or replace her mattress because it has been used. My mom was told they would replace it by two people, the delivery man and the saleswoman. I have filed a complaint with the bbb and intend to file numerous complaints with other agencies. Has anyone else had similar experiences with this Cincinnati oh ethan allen? Any advice?

Worst experience we’ve had with a merchant since moving to Miami. Their 6-8 week delivery promise turned out to be 17 weeks.

The salesperson said she would get us a delivery in time for family visits Thanksgiving. It didn’t arrive then nor for Christmas or New Year’s
Calling constantly did get us a scruffy, ghastly old loaner sofa in mid December. The personnel at the local store were generally unresponsive to nasty . Especially when we had to solve a paperwork error (theirs).
We also had a horrible experience with Ethan Allen in the store in Springdale Ohio! We ordered 13, 000 worth of furniture and did not get it in when they had told us it would be in. Sales people were also very rude and unwilling to help or make it better! Very Unprofessional! When we tried to cancel order we were told we would have to pay 15% of our bill to cancel when clearly our order wasnt going to be delivered on time.. Finally after 8 months of waiting for our order when they said it would be ready in 2 our order came.. Needless to say we WILL NOT be going to by anything from Ethan Allen again!
I came to this board too late and I have a pending order with Ethan Allen since September. Everything noted in this complained is happening to me. And, you will be sorry if you deal with this company design center and customer service. They are very fast to charge you for deposit, but you will be run around when it comes to getting your order. I have been waiting for this order since Sept and last news is that the chair for the dining room may come in March.
For all of you out there, be careful who you dealing with, they are pro and trained on dismissing you and they push you from design center to customer service with no results.

I purchased a couch from Ethan Allen about six or seven years ago.I wish I would done my home work.Don't get me wrong it's a nice looking couch and all, but it's not the most comfortable.The couch I had before this one came from a cheaper store and it was better all around.Lesson learned more expensive is not always better.

Dining table horror
I recently purchased a Cherry dining table and followed their use guidelines. In July, a white mark on the finish appeared and tried to wipe it off with a damp cloth. The finish started to get worse. I called Ethan Allan and requested a copy of the warranty. 8 weeks later, have not received it. I continued to call, email in order to get it repaired. Finally, after 6 weeks, a tech comes to the house. He photographs it, says, can't fix it and says Katheryn will contact me. I wait 5 days, call her, only to have her tell me, sorry not covered. I request another copy of the warranty, still waiting.

Stay away
I purchased a dining table to be used in my newly remodeled kitchen. Furniture took 3 months to be delivered. (toast/cotton) were the color stains of the wood. In addition, 4 cushioned dining chairs were coordinated. After one week of using the table with a cloth and mats, the matte table top finish began to wear down and form shiney spots which looked like grease spots from afar. It gave the appearance of a dirty, greasy table. A repairman came out to "take pictures". Ethan Allen responded by saying that this is normal wear and tear. Hah!. One week later and this is NORMAL. They refuse to do anything else, however, they do recommend that I have a Guardsman re-finish, at my own expense. I will NEVER purchase from them again. In today's economy, I don't think they will be getting too many customers to spend their prices for such crummy quality. Also, my furniture chairs were made in China and the seats have no bottom supports. I'm waiting for the day when the cushions will just fall to the floor. Crummy customer relations at a very HIGH price. Stay away from them!

Poor Workmanship and Service
I wished that I had read and paid attention to all the internet complaints about Ethan Allen. I know that sometimes things can go wrong, but it's now clear to me that Ethan Allen has problems with quality control and customer service. I bought a set of hardwood furniture. The finish was badly done, runs and sags in the varnish. One piece had a door that wouldn't close all the way when the weather was humid. One piece had a scratch in the finish across the top that the repairman couldn't fix. Ethan Allen told me that their finishes are all distressed. They finally replaced the scratched panel, but the new panel had a crack. They told me that cracks are not defects, so there! I couldn't believe the excuses they made and the way they go about doing business. It seems to me that with all the complaints Ethan Allen gets, they are having real problems. I used to like Ethan Allen and I've been very happy in the past with my purchases from them. Now I'll have to buy from other companies with better quality control and a serious commitment to customer satisfaction.

Cannot be trusted
On Feb 28, 2011, I paid a deposit on a sofa which was to be delivered
by May 15Th...I was told it was on back ordered and I wouldn't have
a ship date until June 15Th which meant I wouldn't have it in my possession
for 10 more days to two weeks after that.
I now find out that Dana Conine, the "designer" measured my rooms wrong
and ordered a sofa too big for the wall it is to go on...my room is 13'4"
she measured it on the schematic sheet as 19'1". She also measured my
dining room at 13'5" and it is 10'10"...She showed me a table that would
"fit" my dining room, 58" round. Now, my new table will be delivered next
week and it is way to big for my dining space. Dana told me and showed me
on "her" diagram that all this furniture would fit...now, I am stuck with
a table that is too big and I STILL don't have a sofa. Never shop with
Ethan Allen and NEVER ask Dana to design your home !
Buyer beware
I recently took delivery of EA American Artisan in a black finish. The product is terrible! Uneven spray patterns, obvious touch ups, the dresser top is coming off..drawers are a mess, drips in the paint...I could go on and on and have plenty of photos if anyone would like to see. I bought from the Baltimore area stores which are franchised. Whatever you do, stay away from a franchise furniture store. In addition my wife didn't understand what she was signing when she bought it and on the sales receipt the only contract info is FINAL SALE, AS IS. How can you in good faith sale new product as...AS IS! We are now trying to remedy this, but the owner has gone into hiding. I guess my next step is to contact corporate. In addition after now getting into this situation we find the product is grossly overpriced. While visiting a different store recently we found the sales people stuffed the dressers with pillows and bedding to weight them down so they would not rattle upon opening. This was a terrible mistake and I hope we can save others the pain of buying Ethan Allen junk. Not to mention, avoid the Baltimore, Maryland area stores!

I am not a manager at Pier 1, but have been a manager before.
I think a lot of times people forget that managers don't have all the power in the world over their stores. Chain store managers deal with about 15-30 individual employees in their own store and are also expected to deal with other stores' employees if those stores are understaffed due to corporate overheads. Also, a manager that a customer may speak to might only be an assistant manager who happens to be present that day. If they are not scheduled to come in on the day they need to call you, they most likely can't rather than won't call you. It may also slip their minds, which is bad, but it happens. They are people too.
With about 100 customer requests a day, if not more, to do this, special order that, etc, etc, it is understandable that a mistake could have been made. However, more likely what happened in your case is that the higher ups decided not to back the manager, took the decision/power from their hands, and handled it in their usual terse manner. Please don't take out on one manager/one store what was a mishandled higher up decision. Also, in this day and age, unless you come in the day after or so, there's not telling whether or not you did or didn't cause the damage the item yourself. If it did happen that way, why is the store reliable for your rough housing?
I bought out bedroom set and several other pieces from Ethan Allen. I have been happy with the quality and love the style. When I was younger and just out of college, I thought the staff was very rude (guess they knew I didn't have money). 10 years later, I am much better off financially and the staff is so nice to me now (go figure)...but I try to be smart with my money. Just purchased an item, and the sales person really pushed their free in home design service. I said OK. She then picked out $4700 worth of accessories (about 12 items). Didn't really like much anything she chose ($500 pillows to place on 2 of my dining room chairs? why?), and I thought they were way overpriced. She tried hard to make me feel bad about not purchasing the items from her (and made some comment that I might "steal" her ideas and go somewhere cheaper and said that if price was an issue that they could offer financing). I bought several hundred dollars worth of items from Pier 1, Home Decorators and Lamps Plus which really look great and a fraction of the cost and they were not similar to her "vision" so I didn't "steal" anything from her. I think it is ridiculous to assume that one store is going to have the exact items I need to accessorize.
Don't purchase from them
I purchased nearly $8000 worth of furniture from Ethan Allen in January of 2011. The hartwell sofa I ordered arrived with a large stain on the seat cushion. The stain had soaked into the filling. It took customer service two weeks after I complained to send someone to my home just to take a picture of the stain. I told the technician who came that one of the doors on the Jason buffet won't close and he said he would need to come out another time to remove the door and sand it down. I am dissatisfied with Ethan Allen's quality control, workmanship and customer service. I seriously regret buying anything from them. They have caused me so much frustration. I wish I had never stepped into their stores.
