I booked the Motel on February 5 2023 for 4 people-2 rooms, and got a message back that my credit card was expiring in March 2023, well before the October 19 2023 stay at the Motel. Within a week I got my credit card company to issue a new card with a 2027 expiry date and I advised the motel and updated the Expedia site with the new Expiry date (the credit card number did not change) - see attached.
The week and days before we left for Tahiti I double checked our 2 bookings on the Expedia site and they all showed as confirmed bookings. Indeed, on October 13 I got an email from Expedia stating I could still cancel the booking for free if we wanted to.
It was only when we arrived at the Motel on October 19th late in the evening, they advised our booking was cancelled. Note I also did receive an email from Expedia on October 20th asking how our October 19th check-in went!
The Motel advised us that Expedia had been notified about the cancellation and there was nothing they could do for us as the hotel was full.
Claimed loss: The airport Motel helped us find 2 rooms at La Tahiti for October 19th at a cost of Can$ 744. For the 20th La Tahiti found us one shared room for 4 people at a cost of Can$882. These costs exceeded our Motel booking cost by about Can$900.
Desired outcome: This nightmare experience at the beginning of our vacation was very stressful, trying to find a hotel late at night and at a time when hotels were fully booked, and also very expensive. We would like an explanation and compensation.
