Experian Boost Review: Good at First, But Customer Service and Dispute Process Need Improvement
I recently signed up with Experian to use their "boost" feature, which was pretty good for a few months. However, I encountered an error in my credit report and tried to dispute it. I provided them with my bank records and the information they had from boost, which lists all my bank transactions. But to my surprise, they didn't bother to consider any of the evidence I provided and simply took the company's word as truth.
They had listed a catalog credit as a credit card and changed it to a loan. It took me three months of disputing their mistake before they finally changed it back. But that wasn't the end of my troubles. They also took a self-added account that was a cable/internet service and put it down as a mobile phone account. As a result, there was a dispute against the company which was then removed from my report.
I was furious and decided to call their customer service. However, I was on hold for half an hour before someone finally answered. When I demanded to know why the dispute was removed, I was hung up on! I was so frustrated that I started a chat session while still on hold. When I finally got through, I explained what I had just gone through, and the person simply said, "I'm sorry." But by then, I had had enough. After months of aggravation, I decided to be done with them.
For the first three or four months, Experian was great. But after that, it was nothing but headaches. Their customer service is lacking, and all it did was make my credit worse than when I started. I hope they can improve their service and take their customers' concerns seriously.
Experian: Inaccurate Data, Loyal to Creditors, Screw Them!
Experian is one of the big three credit bureaus in the United States. They collect data on you that determines your credit score, which is used by businesses to decide whether or not to extend credit to you. The lower your score, the riskier you are considered, and the more you'll pay in interest and down payments. Accuracy should be important to Experian, but it's not. Their primary customers are the creditors, and they're loyal to them. If their information is bad, it just protects the creditor by costing you more money. And, let's be real, they don't care if you have to pay more - that's a hard no!
I recently checked my credit and found some errors. Experian has a protocol for correcting errors, but you can only make corrections if the institution that submitted the incorrect information allows it. If they don't, you have to contact the institution and provide proof that the information they submitted is inaccurate.
At first, I was going to take care of it, but then I thought, why bother? Do I care if they're making money selling inaccurate data about me? Do I care if hackers steal inaccurate data about me? No, and no.
I say screw the credit bureaus! If they want accurate information about me, they can pay me for it!
Experian Credit Score Program Review: A Nightmare Scam or Helpful Tool?
Experian is a program that is connected to my Capital One credit card account page, and I must say, it has been a nightmare. The credit score numbers that it provides for me are questionable, and it seems like they are just using it as a hook to get me to apply for one of their many credit cards, all of which have high costs such as yearly charges and high monthly percentage charges of 24% or more.
What's even worse is that their suggestions based on my credit score change almost weekly, and they suggest that one reason I have a low score is that I have a 'Thin File' (not enough credit debt), which they say would 'help' me if I would 'plump' it up by adding more of their credit cards to the two I already have with Capital One.
As a 73-year-old living on a fixed income, this is just depressing. I have put time and energy into fitting my lifestyle into what would fit into my retirement income, and Experian seems to think that more debt is the better way to go.
To make matters worse, Experian has the ability to drop my score 34 points in one day, which is not helpful when I am trying desperately to raise my score to somewhere at least in the high sixes or 700 to qualify for a refi on my mortgage.
The CFO at my credit union said not to pay any attention to those numbers, as no one really looks at them anymore. Instead, they look at debt-to-income ratio. This just goes to show that Experian's suggestions may not be the best way to go.
Overall, I am not impressed with Experian and feel like their program is a scam. They seem to be more interested in getting me to apply for their credit cards than actually helping me improve my credit score.
Experian Review: Disappointing Fees and Lacking Customer Service
I recently had an experience with Experian that left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I was hoping to review my credit scores before applying for a home loan, so I decided to sign up for their service. At first, everything seemed fine. I paid an initial fee to access my three credit scores, but I soon realized that I would be charged an additional $32 every time I wanted to check them again.
Feeling frustrated, I decided to contact customer service for help. Unfortunately, the automated system was not very helpful, and it took me nearly 40 minutes to finally speak to a live person. The first representative I spoke with seemed friendly enough and promised to help me resolve the issue. However, as I was trying to get more information about why I was being charged so much, the representative suddenly hung up on me.
Feeling even more frustrated, I decided to try again and speak to another representative. This time, I was informed that I would not be able to get a refund for the charges. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that no one was available on the weekends. I couldn't believe it - a company as large as Experian should have someone available to help customers at all times.
Feeling angry and disappointed, I decided to cancel my account. Unfortunately, I was out nearly $100 with no resolution to my problem. I was extremely disappointed with Experian's business practices and felt that they were deceiving customers. It's a shame that they are not willing to work with customers to solve problems.
Overall, I would not recommend Experian to anyone looking to review their credit scores. The fees are excessive, and the customer service is lacking. It's a shame that a company as large as Experian cannot provide better service to its customers.
Mixed Experience with Experian: Frustrating Setbacks and Lack of Transparency in Credit Reporting
I recently had an experience with Experian that left me feeling frustrated and confused. I had been informed by my current mortgagor that rates had fallen in June, so I decided to try and refinance my house. However, when I received the credit report, I was disappointed to see that my credit score was too low. The report indicated that there were several key risk factors that impacted the credit decision, including too many outstanding credit card balances, too many new credit cards, too high a ratio of balances to credit limits, and too many delinquencies.
Determined to improve my credit score, I took distributions from my IRA that were sufficient to pay off all the outstanding credit card balances in June and on or before July 4th. However, when I checked my credit score with TransUnion on July 29th, I was surprised to see that they still did not reflect the payment of more than $36,800 on a Bank of America credit card. Despite this setback, I continued to work on improving my credit score and was pleased to see that my FICO scores shot up to 803 - 824 by the 2nd week of August.
However, my positive experience was short-lived. On 10/26/2020, I spent 2 hours on the phone with representatives from CredCo, who told me that their query against Experian showed a credit score that was around 759-763. They also mentioned that Experian might be using a different algorithm for lenders than the one used to generate the scores displayed on the Experian site and American Express. I was confused and frustrated by this information, as the Experian data I was looking at indicated that I was using about 1% of my credit limit, which had nothing to do with some algorithm. Furthermore, the key factors displayed in the letter I received bore no relation to the nature of my credit usage since July 4th.
To make matters worse, Experian does not provide contact information to dispute their lying reports to lenders. This lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable and has left me feeling disillusioned with Experian's services. Overall, my experience with Experian has been a mixed bag, with some positive moments and some frustrating setbacks. I hope that Experian will take steps to improve their services and provide better support to their customers in the future.
Experian's Unfair Credit Scoring System and Poor Customer Service
Experian is a credit scoring company that has recently made some changes to their system that have left many customers feeling frustrated. One of the most concerning changes is that they are now taking points away from customers who open a line of credit and pay it on time. This seems counterintuitive, as paying bills on time is typically seen as a positive thing. When customers call to inquire about this change, they are told that it is because they do not have enough credit lines open. This seems unfair, as it penalizes customers for not having more credit than they need.
Another issue with Experian is that they sometimes add false or incorrect information to customers' credit reports. When customers ask for this information to be removed, Experian often refuses and demands a copy of their driver's license. Even when customers provide this information, Experian still does not correct the mistake or provide a copy of the credit report. This can be frustrating for customers who are trying to improve their credit score.
To make matters worse, Experian has created a barrier for customers who want to speak to a live person about their credit reports. Unless customers have a membership or an auto-debited membership, they are left to navigate Experian's self-help website on their own. This can be difficult, as important information is often buried deep within the site. Many issues do not get resolved unless a customer speaks to a live person, and Experian knows this. By making it difficult for customers to speak to a live person, Experian is essentially holding their credit hostage.
Overall, Experian's recent changes and business practices have left many customers feeling frustrated and angry. It is clear that Experian needs to make some changes if they want to keep their customers happy. Until then, customers will have to navigate the confusing world of credit scoring on their own.
Experian's Customer Service is a Nightmare: My Experience with Security Freeze and Fraud Alert
So, I gave Experian a call yesterday to make sure that my credit reporting account had both a security freeze and fraud alert. Unfortunately, my experience was not great.
On June 8th, I called and waited for 32 minutes before finally reaching someone. However, their phone wasn't working properly, and I could hear them, but they couldn't hear me. I had to call again and was transferred, which resulted in another 15-minute wait. I was then transferred a third time and expected to be on hold again for who knows how long. To make matters worse, I couldn't log into Experian's website, even though I had an account. Apparently, there was a data migration that wasn't successful, and those of us affected were not informed. I didn't receive a login email "within 10 minutes" after my call either.
The next day, June 9th, I still hadn't received a login email, so I called Experian again. This time, I was transferred to the dispute department, even though I mentioned my login issues. I've now been on the phone for over 2.5 hours (32m, 61m, 95m) and have made three calls. To make matters worse, due to a misspelling, Experian may have emailed my user information to another email address. This is not reassuring in terms of "security."
It turns out that the fraud alert I asked for was not added the day before, and I still don't see the security freeze after being able to log back into my account today. In fact, I see that my account was unlocked (?) after checking online. At this point, I have no confidence that my Experian account has a security freeze and fraud alert.
Experian's ineptitude even affected our mortgage application back in December. Fortunately, the lender was okay with accepting the other two major agency reports.
When I called Innovis yesterday, it was a completely different experience. The first person that answered right away added a fraud alert, security freeze, and even offered a free credit report, all in less than 10 minutes. I have not had any of these Experian issues with Equifax or Transunion.
How is Experian going to provide seamless customer service instead of bungling everything possible, wasting the public's time, and ironically putting our credit reports at risk by sending login and user information to another email address?
Experian: Shoddy, Overpriced Credit Information - Time for Change in 2018!
So, we recently made a big purchase and, like most people, our credit history was scrutinized by the sellers. To our surprise, we found out that our Experian report had a few problems. This meant that we had to make a larger down-payment, which is something that most consumers have to deal with. We were prepared to discuss and make a substantial down-payment, as it helps to reduce monthly costs. However, what really irritates us is the dance that seems to be embedded in credit bureau information, especially in the case of Experian.
Experian charges for all information, even if it is inaccurate, not current, or irrelevant. If you need to review and check your credit, like for a background search for a major purchase, Experian never seems to gel with other credit reporting businesses. For some reason, the public has accepted shoddy, overpriced information from Experian, a business that, along with two other credit bureaus, has held generations hostage with credit information that can negatively impact the ability to purchase or live! Experian has a responsibility to consumers, which it should initiate and nurture within the parameters that it has set up.
When we tried to get a free report that was supposedly offered by Experian once within certain time periods, we found out that the report was not free. And, any review of the report generates a decrease in credit points on your Experian credit report. Really? When did such nonsense start, and why would a business believe that people would be okay with it? We used another business to verify our credit report, and it didn't cost us anything!
Our recommendation is to not fall for the obligatory credit dances that are perpetrated by and between businesses, financial institutions, and the top three credit bureaus. There are other ways to gather credit information that is accurate, current, and doesn't cost consumers money or hard-earned credit points. Beware of any business that uses fear, like identity theft, to get business. Any consumer can police their personal information with just a bit of consistent homework. Experian is not necessary.
It's 2018! The 20th-century mechanisms regarding credit history are not something that consumers need. Who makes the decision on what points are added or subtracted from a credit report? What are the qualifications of employees at Experian? Why is your personal information sacrosanct to you? You can move forward with purchases without being held hostage by businesses like Experian. It's time for change, and it's here.

Honestly, I am wondering if these people are just scam people with all the bad news about them I'm seeing online!

Experian free credit check
Hi,
I've fallen victim to the Experian credit check scam, where they automatically enroll you in their highest tier of membership as described here.
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1613865/experian-be-warned
I am looking for any legal help that I can take against this as I was signed up for this service for 1 year and 8 months, which is an absolutely ridiculous amount to pay for a free service.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you
Dylan
Their services et al
You can not reach a live person to resolve an issue. When you call their phone numbers any where 1-888-397-3742, 1 714 830 7000, you get a recording and two options neither of which fit my situation. There is no override option to get to an operator so you might be able to resolve your situation.
I tried to log on to my account on the web last night 6/14/2020. It did not work so a website popped up saying enter your Social Security # and Date of Birth. A message popped up saying they had sent an email with directions for me to reset my password to [protected]@fghj.com. That is not, nor ever has been, my email address. Where that came from I have no idea but apparently it is now possible for someone to log onto my Experian account...
I tried to call Experian all morning 6/15/2020, reaching a live person who was unable to help me after 30 minutes. Back at their website, an online help pops up but that too is not a live person but a bot. The bot won't connect you to someone who can help unless you pay a dollar for a service which you can allegedly cancel anytime thereafter or pay $40 + each month. Folks have said online that they can't get this service cancelled...
I was never able to reach someone who actually could address my situation and now have to worry that someone out there can access my very personal information. We have been victims of ID theft multiple times and this mess with Experian is not helping us.
I am beyond frustrated.
cant through deploablr phone system! just say i can;t get, can't get! once tou finally get pat the bs, you sit on hold for ever. hearing messages to sign up for some service.
Social media twitter. just keeps giving prompts, wont admit phone system does work!
unethical charges on my credit card
I recently found out that Experian was charging my credit card for $21.95 a month. It went on for three months when I finally noticed it and I wondered why I was getting emails from Experian every day . I finally returned one of their emails and told them if they did not get that off my credit card I would contact the attorney generals office. It was at 11:30 at night and in seven minutes they returned my email and said they were crediting my account for these three charges. How does Experian get away with this and most people don't know how to defend themselves. Why can't somebody take action. Experience for these illegal charges? Where else can I go to submit a complaint? Yvonne Thomas [protected]. Email address is [protected]@icloud.com.
unauthorized credit report freeze. problems logging in
I have never had such unprofessional experience as with your company. Really unbelievable. I had problems logging into my account for weeks. Have right username, reset password. When tried logging in afterwards, was given 866 number. When called number there was nev er any way to speak to person — just crazy computer going around and around. If you give an 800 number to call than you have someone there to answer. Unbeleivable. To make things worse as was trying going around with stupid automatic system - it said that it froze my credit report. Never asked to freeze my credit report. I"m done with this crazy company and you can be sure that I will publicize this further if not resolved immediately - I need my freez to be removed immediately_ it was never requested. Totally unbelieivable,. Finally got to someone by pressing the digit for"clients". You don't really care about anyone besides"clients" seems. Spoke to kate 4212. Terrible terrible service. Terrible company terrible service,. Issue not resolved. Cant believe this company is not some third-world company. Or maybe it is?
my credit information security
Experian uses coercive practices when it comes to the security of their consumer accounts. I cancelled my paid membership that allowed me to lock or unlock my Experian credit information at will but I had added a credit report freeze long before I had a membership account with the option to lock or unlock my report. After I cancelled that account I found out the credit freeze I had placed on my account no longer existed, thereby leaving my credit account exposed to possible fraud on my account. I did not know that Experian had left me exposed to credit fraud for three days when I received an email stating (Because you've cancelled your paid membership and no longer have access to CreditLock, your Experian credit file has been unlocked. So, any upcoming scheduled lock or unlock has been cancelled. Upgrade your account to use this feature again). It was not explained to me that the credit freeze I had placed on my account before I opened my paid information account had been removed from my Experian account. I feel this is deceptive and coercive in order to get me to reopen one of their paid accounts.
experian
I called Experian to ask them to remove a fraud alert that I did not place on my report. When the rep ask me a question he did not read the question correctly and therefore I answered the question wrong. After asking to speak with a supervisor and explaining to her that her rep was having trouble reading the question to me and it seems as if he did not speak English the supervisor then hung up the phone on me. Now I can not get through to customer service and I am being blocked from uploading my documents to prove my identity so I can remove the fraud alert. Hard working people should not be allowed to be treated this way by a credit reporting company. Please help me.
fraud
I finally opened my account to look at it. My daughter found fraud from experian that I never ran. I have never bought anything or did anything that would require experian to run my credit. They did it automatically every month right on time around 4 pm. That is automatic if you ask me. They have charged my card over $500. We had to go through several calls and they were rude rude people. I don't know why social security has a company like this handling peoples money. I sent in the fraud paperwork and of course they "couldn't find any prove any fradulaunt activity" and refused to give the money back. Of course they assumed I gave the card to someone or let people in my account. I gave my daughter permission to help me when I visited and they refused to let her talk even with me there on speaker phone. They said if we didn't get off speaker they would hang up and threat after threat after threat. Now I need to find corporate and go higher. Sometimes it doesn't even work in the stores and makes me look bad like there is nothing in the card. Direct express sucks.
website
I have a credit alert and have tried to CALL and go online to speak to someone about this, but their website sucks! Holy crap, get with the program! Your options do not address my issue and I cannot get a single human being on the phone. Ridiculous! Worse is that you have been hacked and lost hundreds of thousands peoples info - you d think you would be trying harder!
credit bureau
I paid 19.99 to access my experian report and credit score and since 5/30/2018 I have not been provided a score with my credit report. They cust service rep said it may be because of system maintenance but it has lasted all day and into 5/21. Also if she is correct, and she was a supervisor, everyone would not be getting their scores. So its a lie and I want my refund.
can't get anyone to answer the phone, fax, chat, email... nothing!
I have been on hold for 1:32 & still holding, almost 2 hours! No fax number, can't send an online dispute, it's insane. The chat line just gives me the customer number, not sure why the chat is offered when they can't help with anything? I'm in the middle of closing on a house, and you have a collection on my report that I have a release letter from the collection agency & the creditor but I can't get anything to you. This is crazy!
Terrible
Dreadful. Don't bother.
Good luck in trying to get rid of them.
They make a lot of promises including a free trial. But anyway when you start using them, they charge you.
No, not that one dollar, but much more. And now I can't make them stop charging me every day. I haven't subscribed to their service, [robably, it was automatically done once I used their service. And now they have my credit card information and are able to do anything they want. I am very nervous...
