I have been attending GCU since 2008 and completed my Master's degree within their program. But I too have recently experienced problems with the posting of financial aid and the disbursement of excess funds. It is very irritating to constantly have to look at my financial aid to see if it has posted. There is no communication if there is a problem! You have to be on watch and drag answers out of your financial aid advisor. I enrolled in the Docotral program because of a good experience with the Masters. I am seriously considering going somewhere else at this point. These "Upgrades" in the system have caused more headaches. I am in the 6 week of my current class and my funds still have not posted to my account. I was told that they should have posted back on the 19th of September. After leaving messages and sending emails to my counselor-I have no resolution. This is so emotionally draining. I received my BA and a Masters from another institustion and never had an issue with financial aid. In fact, we received all aid BEFORE classes were taken. So I know that they have received the funding from the government. Trying to complete coursework while worrying if your tutition is paid is too stressful. I have invested time and money (hey I do have to pay this back)! But I feel I am constantly getting the runaround. I just want consistency and truthful, straightforward answers. Not a constant call me back in a week! Just post my aid and I will make sure I do what I need in the classroom. I will begin searching for other programs-I'm tired.

The issue was resolved; hopefully the next financial aid period will be with no issues. I'll keep everyone posted! Best wishes.

My financial aid disbursement was mailed out on December 12, 2018, I needed a new laptop and was completing assignments at work. by Jan. 3rd when class was scheduled to begin, I had still not received the stipend and couldnt start. My student counselor told me that I could wait until the next start date January 24t and by then I should have received the stipend. I was removed from the Jan 3rd class and the following week the school discharged me, kept my stipend and told me I would owe them for the class I was removed from. Needless to say, I would welcome the opportunity to join a lawsuit because I feel completely defrauded and they have a hold on my student loans so I can't start classes at my new university for doctoral studies. There have been over 50, 000 students impacted by this form of financial aid mismanagement and it needs to stop. They need to have access to federal student loans revoked and a federal investigation needs to happen to stop them.

Today (9-4-10), I checked my account earlier and it said -3720 which means it's a credit and a stipend will be released soon but now it's say I owe a balance of 1186, does anybody knows what that means? Am I still getting a stipend ?

They have no idea what they are doing and look for a reason to keep/hold your money. They are holding my refund which is a credit from the VA after financial aid already paid for my classes! Just because I didn’t post for 6days. Now I have to wait until the class is over. I never got a notice or anything!

I need to know when my refund will get to me. My account says that my stipend was released on August 21, 2019. I called student services because after a week I still hadn't recieved it. They said that I should recieve it any day now. 3 weeks later, still nothing! I call student services and my advisor is never available, and today I waited for 30 minutes and no one ever answered.. I just want to know where is my refund..

Hi everyone! I started school on August 12, 2019 for my Bachelors in Elementary Education. My stipend was sent out on the 22 and I received it on the 29th of August. I now have a balance of $236 which was my refund that was supposed to have been sent out to me, but my counselor said it will be added to the next one. My current class ends on January 19th, 2020, do anyone know when will I receive my stipend or refund? It will be my second one. Also, they have this next class scheduled in February, but all the other classes are scheduled the day right after my last class ends. I’m confused!

Hi Everyone,

My remaining funds were stipend on Jan 27, 2020. I still have not received the check in the mail. I am in Phoenix so it is not like it has to go to another state. I call and spoke to my counselor and she stated that I have to wait 21 days before it can be canceled. I am not comfortable with that because the check could be lost or cashed by someone else. Can anyone assist with this?

Mine also shows my funds were stipend on 1/27/20, and nothing. I’m in Tucson, Az so I’m not sure what the hold up is... I received my first check in October and only took a few days then. Please keep us posted if or when you get any additional information or refund. I’m desperately wait for mine as I need a new laptop!

Did you Ever get your stipend? I’m new to the university and am waiting on mine which was mailed 9/16 apparently! Previous universities I’ve attended sent the money to your account. I just don’t like being billed and not seeing the money! Anyone receive their money?

Did you ever get your stipend? I am new as well. My account totaled out on 10/19/21 and I am in SC. I have never had a school send a check either. It's always been to my account too. When should I be expecting it?

How often did you receive a stipend check at GCU? You said you had received one in October, did you ever receive one for November or December?

I am currently in the same exact situation. Except they said money stipend out, then 2 weeks later said that check was undeliverable. This has happened twice. Now I am to the point of getting the run around from my student counselors, which I do believe she is trying to help but her supervisor refuses to email or return calls. I have less than a year left and am highly considering just cutting my losses because it is emotionally draining to keep up with my work and their work too!. I hate this happened for you, but I am glad I am not the only one out there experiencing this.

I have experienced the same problem EVERY semester. I have been in the Doctoral program since August 2019 and every semester the aid doesn't get disbursed until 30+ days after class begins. This puts the student at an extreme disadvantage if they require transportation or materials needed by day 1 of the course. I have had two prior Masters programs where my aid would be available within 7 days after the start of class at the latest. This is extremely stressful for the student and needs to change.
