I brought Magic Jack Plus at my local Wal-Mart back on 2/14/2012. I thought that I would save some serious money on my phone service, but I was sure wrong. I paid $69.95, which included the first year. I have to say from the 14th till March 1st, and I must of spent at the most 24 hours trying to install this product. March 1st alone, I spent over 8 hours with high official techs to install this on my computer. I have to say they knew me by first name basis. Please don't believe the line of serious CRAP about a 60 year old lady can install it in minutes Those techs had me install Java programs, and others. Stay away from this product, the hype is serious B/S!

My account was charged for a 5 year plan on 6-18-11 for the amount of $73.31 without getting permission from me. I was also charged for $19.99 on 1-29-11 for a one year renewa.l

Magic Jack is at it again with unauthorized credit card charging. I'm in Canada and I have already filed a complaint with my Credit Card company fraud department. I also contacted the better business bureau and the person I spoke with said they have an investigation on 3, 500 Canadian counts of fraud with Magic Jack. People are going to be holding the creator of Magic Jack responsible and Ymax communications. People need to follow the proper procedures if they want to sue. VISA is on the band wagon as they have already notified me that Magic Jack is on their fraud watch list. Thus far, Magic Jack has deducted two years worth of payments from my account and has not credited my account with these payments. LIVID is too anaemic to state how I feel toward them. BBB, newspapers and whoever else I can contact here I come!

Magic Jack says you can call all over Canada & the USA. I live in Vancouver and cannot reach The Yukon Territories. I specifically bought it for this reason it worked for about 3 months and then stopped. They said they would fix the problem and after updates and upgrades, nothing fixed the problem. They then had the nerve to send me an email to renew that said if I did not respond within 24 hours it would automatically renew from the credit card we registered with. They have no authorization to do such. Another was given to me new, but already having one sold on Craigslist. The guy who bought said he could not activate because the unit was over a year old and this was told to him by customer service with Magic Jack. SO BE CAREFUL WITH FALSE ADVERTISING
My Magic Jack quit working after one month and they said since it's past the first 30 days, I will have to BUY another device. I cannot get a replacement without paying. So I just wasted $80 on a piece of garbage. Do NOT get involved with Magic Jack. Customer service is all but nonexistent. I will report them to BBB. That's all I can do. I will never get my money back. Buyer beware!

Magic Jack has NO support or service after you purchase. If there is a problem you're in trouble. Dropped calls, static, will not work with computers on a network, can't get credit for int'l call purchases. I have tried to contact the support center 5 times over 90 days "through chat" with no help. The lines go offshore, the people or machines understand no English. After many tries the chat printout is "canned responses" that end up stating they can do nothing.

Magic Jack Plus stopped working due to a power supply adapter going bad I finally deduced. After 2 grueling hours of text/chatting with "Journey" and "Destiny" then all of a sudden, they needed to download updates to my unit which started tossing certificate alerts every time they tried to answer a question in the chat box.. Very clever idea! I saved, as we went, the chat, another very clever idea! By the way, nothing was every done to resolve my issue. Replacing a simple $3.00 part that went bad, not even the offer to sell me one. By the way, I don't usually fly this flag, but I am a disabled vet, fixed income, and this was a real benefit because it gave me no trouble before this. I have exactly the same situation and problem. After wasting an entire afternoon trying to deal with Magic Jack chat, I figured out from searching on the net that the problem is a dead power adapter. I got one that works today at Best Buy for ten bucks. Magic Jack should replace them (mine only lasted about a year) or at the very least admit that the power adapter going bad is the problem, not the software.

I was looking to cut my household budget when I saw a Magic Jack info commercial. I checked out the web site. After some research I decided not to. A few days later I went back to the web site and thought the 30 day free trial couldn't hurt. WRONG. As I was filling out the form and had entered my card number, I thought twice and backed out of it. I DID NOT submit anything, never received any confirmation email or any knowledge that this transaction was complete.They grabbed that acct. # and withdrew immediately. I didn't realize it until the next day that they withdrew from my acct. fraudulently, without my authorization. It took me three months of aggravation and filing complaints to Pa. and Fla. Attorney Generals along with the Fla. BBB. Pa. A.G. office because that's where I live. I finally got my money back. Scammed-fraud. Thanks to Attorney Generals office. You need to file complaints with those offices.

I've used Magicjack for years and it has been great. 99% of the people who have issues are one who don't set it up right or in this case, have the wrong type of computer.

area code blocking
For months Magic Jack has been blocking calls to select area codes where they are charged a fee per call by the land line providers where those numbers are registered. Magic Jack has lied to their Magic Jack customers claiming that it is the land line provider that is blocking the calls and they continue to tell the Magic Jack customers that they are working on the problem. The fact of the matter is that they are blocking the calls to hundreds if not thousands of area codes throughout the U.S. because they don't like the charges being sent their way by the land line providers. After being misled, lied to, stalled, and defrauded for months by their customer service chat people, I filed a complaint with the FCC. Last night Magic Jack sent out an auto-renewal notice at 12:30am just after midnight telling me that I had one hour to respond if I didn't want my charge card billed again for another year. Luckily I was still up and was able to cancel the subscription by replying to the email. I WOULD ADVISE EVERYONE TO TAKE A LONG LOOK AT THE LIST OF AREA CODES THAT THEY ARE NOW BLOCKING CALLS TO BY SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR THOSE LISTS. THEY ARE AVAILABLE AND THE LIST IS GROWING ALL THE TIME. MAGIC JACK HAS BECAME A TOTAL WAIST OF MONEY.

poor billing practices
I was charged for a second year of service without authorizing them. I was told on the web chat it was canceled but it wasn't and had to spend an hour on the phone just to get hung up on when they would not give me a confirmation number.

It looks like magic Jack is a scam, sold under many endorsements, and made attractive to buy. I cannot make 800 calls. Of all the phones in my house only one gets connected and the others do not. The FCC should investigate along with the consumer agencies. One month free trial is not enough as the product has glitches that need at least a year to uncover. After they are uncovered, there are no solutions.This is one of the most useless product in the market lured by false claims and advertisements.

I got Magic Jack last year and everything was fine. However, I recently married to a woman with a 18 year old daughter who likes to chat a lot. After one year of usage, I proceeded to renew my phone subscription but then Magic Jack then deactivated my phone. I used their chat line for the next four days and each time the rep stated MJ was working on it. On the fifth day, I got the rep to admit that I violated their terms of agreement. The terms of agreement is the screen that nobody reads when initially activating Magic Jack for the first time on their PC. The rep stated my phone usage exceeded 20X the average usage and therefore my phone was deactivated for this reason. He stated Magic Jack provide "free" phone service but NOT unlimited phone service. I asked for my money back but he refused. Naturally I proceeded to place my credit charge in dispute and I have filed a complaint with the FCC, BBB and the state of Florida where Magic Jack is located. The basis of my FCC complaint: (1) Magic Jack has a "one strike and you are out" policy to its customers which is an unfair business practice. (2) Magic Jack has failed to disclose the phone usage limitation in the advertisements which is deceptive. (3) Magic Jack stated that you can have "free phone calls" but then they will deactivate your phone AFTER you paid your subscription for the next year. This is absolutely un-american. Bottomline: Magic Jack is a SCAM and I considered them EVIL.
can't dial a certain number
For 5 months I have been trying to get Magic Jack to respond to a problem with dialing a certain phone number. Every time I dial this number, I get a message "your call cannot be completed as dialed". The number currently is and has been in service for over 15 years. All other dialed numbers work except this specific one. Numerous "chats" and promises of having their so-called "engineers" look into the problem with promises they would contact me have resulted in NOTHING BEING DONE. I cannot and will not recommend Magic Jack to anyone who wants good reliable phone service. MJ will not replace or exchange my unit.

Had purchasedthis product over the internet. Its nothing but a piece of garbage. As soon as i did purchase it they debited my credit card for the amount although they say there is a 30 day period. I spent over 7 hours on the chat with them as they have no land line. This company is nothing better than a scam artist. I have still not got my refund even after sending there garbage back & have confirmation that they have received it. Dont even try this product .
I purchased Magic Jack from Walmart in hopes to decrease my monthly phone bill and also have long distance. Low and behold it sucked! I purchased it last Friday hooked everything up and had a dial tone one minute and tried to call my husbands cell phone (he was sitting right next to me), and his phone didn't even ring. Then I hung up and couldn't get a dial tone for a while. Then I called my cell phone and my cell phone was ringing and then hung up the home phone through MJ and my cell kept ringing. I purchased the 1 year warranty when signing up and they tell me it is non-refundable. It's very minimal but that's not the point. Oh yeah and they tell you they can transfer your number but they don't tell you they charge you for it. Customer Service is good for nothing and they do not have a phone number to contact a real person...BUYER BEWARE! Try something else...because this product is a joke and not worth the aggrevation!

I have been using the product Magic Jack for two years now, and it is wonderful. It works very well, and I have saved a lot of money up to now. I wouldn't give it up for the world. The problem is the company itself. I tried to contact them for a question, and was still in front of the screen waiting for the agent to answer my question over an hour later. There is no phone number, no address, and the "live agent" kept pressing prerecorded answers like "I am sorry for the delay, I will be with you shortly", one after the other. I finally received the answer I was waiting for over an hour and two agents later, and between every message, there was a wait of around ten minutes of prerecorded answers. I was so frustrated, I asked where I could file a complaint, and the site they gave me hasn't worked. The product is wonderful, the company smells like a dead rat.

Had MagicJack just over a year and it worked...okay. One month after I renewed the subscription for two years I returned home from 3 days away to find they had deactivated my account. I contacted them through their 'live chat' and was told it was deactivated for over use. No one had even been at the house during that time frame, no one could have used the phone. I lost two years subscription, the phone number, and have a box full of business cards that are useless now (because of the phone number). I explained to them no one could have used the phone, they said there was nothing they could do about it. My new goal in life is to disuade everyone I can from using their 'services'. With new competitive products on the market now who actually have customer service I see a steep decline in Magicjack sales coming...
The owner and Inventor of this company is Dan Borislow and he lives in Palm Beach Florida. He also has a Facebook page. I think it is time to get the federal government involved with his fruad. There is an articular in the newspaper in Palm Beach paper. It seem he has other problems.
May be if enough people contact him he will return all the money he owes. He is a real scam artist.

My credit card bill recently showed an unauthorized charge for Magicjack.
I haven´t used it in more than a year.
I checked the website for an address or email to contact them to no avail.
They say they have online help 24/7 so I logged into that and gave up after an hour.

What a nightmare buying magicJack has been. Once I got it, it didn't work. There were no instructions. The 1-2-3 they say was wrong from the get-go. I got tech support on line, after navigating my way through the cyber jubgle they put up to insure you can't get to them. However, I wish I hadn't! They had me do things to my computer in an effort to get the device working that resulted, after being online with them for over five hours, in my losing my CD/DVD player burner.
The techs were arrogant and condescending...and I bet all were from Pakistan/India. I say all because I had to keep getting back to them. One tech told me to do something that ended up with my computer freezing up...had to just pull the plug and start over. Avoid this product at all cost...save yourself, save your money!
I visited the magicjack.com website after seeing an advertisement for it online. I purchased the product and when it arrived it did not work as described. I have tried contacting anyone from the company. At the website there is no 800 number online online assistance in the form of a internet operator who gives live help with names like Janice or Robert. In reality the person you are speaking to is located in an office in India or Europe, but not in the States. They need to teach the it guys or girls there better English. I assume that is why there is no direct 1800 number
I have tried configuring my pc in every fashion suggested bye the online operators there. This product has never worked as described. I will admit for a month calls would actually go through but would never allow me to complete the calls. They would drop all the time. I have asked the online operator, IT people on numerous occasions for a phone number to call so that I may speak with someone about returning the product and attaining a refund. Every time I asked they either avoid the question and or just drop my session online with them.
If I steal from anyone in the State of New York in the United States, or any other state for that matter, I would be arrested for theft. Why am I allowed to be robbed? Why is someone not being arrested? This hurts and frustrates me and I would like retribution in the form of a refund or a government agency to fine them or shut down the site. These people are thieves and this needs to stop immediately!
Worked fine for the 1st month and a half. Overnight, it stopped working. Their website is as difficult to navigate as Walmarts'. It took me 30 minutes to find a Customer Chat line. I was disconnected from the chatline on 4 different occassions and spoke with 8 agents over a nine hour period. The piece of crap still doesn't work. No one of their end seems to know what their doing and everyone you talk to wants to walk you thru the same nine hundred steps wiping other software off your computer (that they say is incompatible with magicJack - funny thing it worked for over a month with that same software on my machine). The product is great in theory and useless in practice. If you threaten one of their agents by saying you're going to use some other voip service, they'll disconnect you. There is NO actual phone number to call and you can tell by their dialect, their 'agents' are not American. Which, in and of itself, is most likely half the problem. Take my advice folks - keep your 39.95 and use it to pay for 3 months of quality Vonage service. The only magic this jack has is the works one minute - broke the next magic!
WARNING! I purchased Magic Jack 6 months ago and it stopped working. The problem is that it is impossible to get customer care. They provide no one to talk to. There are no contact phone numbers. They do have buttons on their site for customer care, but when you click them, they eventually loop you back to the main page. Very frustrating! Go to the site and try to contact someone. I am at my wits end an am giving up... I thought you should know this before recommending it to your viewers.
What a piece of junk this equipment is! Our address location didn't have enough "upload speed" to have this device. Cancelled service and then on the renewal date, it AUTOMATICALLY deducts another year of service, without your consent. These people DO NOT have a customer service telephone number. 30 free trial
I recently ordered a new magicjack plus as per the free trial offer from there wesite offer. It states that your credit card will not be charged for 30 days. They do not tell you that I could see that the 30 trial starts the day you order. Also they charged my card immediately istead of waiting the 30 day period. When I complained they simply told me that since it was a debit card they processed it the day of order. My debit card works as a credit or a debit card. But it didn't make a difference to them. Then after I found out they would not honor my 5 years still left on my previous account, I decided to return I would return the magicjack plus for a full credit. Upon visiting the wesite to find out how to return the magicjack plus and also since they have no customer service number you can call. (A phone company with no phone to call?) I found the page to start the return procedure and it has you print out the form to mail back with the return. Now keep in mind I only recieved the magicjack plus the previous day. I seen I only had 14 days to return the magicjack plus to get the credit to my credit card. How does that work? 30 day trial, and I had only 14 days left. That is when I seen that the 30 day trial starts the day you order. So now they will not charge your card for 30 days and they charged it immediately, then the 30 free trial starts the day of order? How do you test it for 30 days if you don't have possession of it? The the consumer is responsible for return postage. And if I had waited even a week, I would be paying for overnight delivery and a receipt signature. I think I will opt for the return reciept signature reguardless. If I would have waited two weeks, I would not be able to return the magicjack plus for a refund as per the 30 day free trial.in my opinion this is as dishonest as it gets. As far as my earlier purchased magicjack service. Magicjack has updates to the service periodically and after this last update my phone would not call a close long distance number. It simply rejects the number. After several live chats with more than one agent online and it working again untill I was off line with the agent. My magicjack would quit working again. My connection has not worked with MajicJack for about 8 months. The only service that I could find cost the customer. I have now found chat and this is their only form of communication.
I have been working with majicjack techs for days and hours trying to get me service to work. No one has been able to get it to work longer than our conversation lasts. As soon as I close the window with one of their top 10% the service stops working.

I am now trying to get a landline and other companies have a difficult time getting the number because it is registered to majicjack. The last person that I spoke with told me that I could pay them $30.00 after the other company sends a request, this is after just paying for my renewal. I had to pay for the renewal because this is my business number and they would not release the number or the information to me.
If I had a way of contacting the owner I would!

I have had Magic Jack working for about 6 months. Submitted a request to port my phone number about 6 months ago; nothing has happened . Today I went on line to check my account; no record of any porting request. Submitted another porting request. This time Magic Jack wanted a $20 fee to do it. Gave them credit card no. and submitted request. Email from them said they could not port my phone number because my provider BellSouth said a porting request is already in process. I guess I am out $20. I wonder if anyone has ever had their number ported to MagicJack or is this a hoax?
BTW; after initially setting up MagicJack in Florida with no problems(Emachine with Windows 7, Brighthouse cable for ISP), I moved to another location with different computer and router and experienced call dropping. Had to change router to cure this problem. Magic Jack is now successfully running on XP and VISTA. The problem router was a 10 year old Linksys WRT54GS with latest firmware. I changed firmware from Linksys over to DD-wrt and problem of dropped calls was cured.

Magic jack ported out my phone number 4 days after I canceled my account and now my phone carrier wants 69.99 to get it back. When I called magic jack they told me my account was canceled on the 16th and I asked why then did they take my phone number on the 20th if my account was already canceled. They told me I had to chat with someone online. When I did the online chat, they told me my account was still active. I think they didn't want to agree they were wrong. So I asked them: how do I cancel my account again? they said all I have to do to cancel is to just stop using my magic jack, thats funny because I wasn't using magic jack. It was returned to the store on the 16th so How can I still have magic jack when I don't even own magic jack. If you need tech support, you have to chat online and they put you on hold for 20 minutes after each question. It has taken me 5 days and I still did not get any answers
I couldn't get my magic jack to work so I canceled my account the day after I tried to set it up and asked them not to port my phone number from my phone current carrier because i'm going to stay with them. My account was canceled on the 16th and on the 20th of that same month they took my phone number. Now I can't get my phone number back from magic jack and they told me I never canceled. I asked them to please cancel it again and they told me all I had to do to cancel was to stop using it, I never used it, it was never in service. I don't even own a magic jack anymore. Do not use magic jack. You can't speak to anyone on the phone, you have to chat on the computer and they take forever to say anything and they don't actually answer your questions, they say the same thing over and over agin. It's like they don't even read what you type.

I ordered a Magic Jack Plus several months ago and it has had the same problem over and over again. After the 5th time calling, they said they would send a replacement. But then told me I would have to pay $10.95 for shipping and handling. When I said I had already paid that charge and that it was not my fault that the device did not work properly, they said that was the only way they would replace the unit. Needless to say, I am now looking for an alternative for my home number.
I purchased the 5 year plan for MJ +. After one year, they shut down my service. They refuse to refund or compensate for the four years. There is much more information that I can share if needed. I have been trying to hook up for over three hours. That simple two step process is a lie. I've been out of town due to an illness then death in my family. So my trial is over. But I still did not expect problems. I should have given up when I could not find any available customer support by telephone. They say, not at this time. Then after a two hour attempt to get hooked up which required changing all firewall settings, I was unable to use my local number as claimed. IF I had been able, there is a transfer fee of 19.95 immediately, then an additional 9.95 annually. They don't advertise that.! So lie # 2, there certainly are other fees.
So I was told I had to pick a number. I could choose my own area code and prefix...WRONG. Lie #3 . My area code was available but no prefixes from our area, not a single one that anyone who called me wouldn't have to call long distance. So I tried anyway for a temporary number but got a negative response when I tried to ask if I could change later. Because they said, that the prefix was not available "at the moment"... LIE #4. As many moments have already come and gone. minutes, days, years, they couldn't say. I asked please for a phone number... No, , not available at the moment. So I told them I had to get off the phone by noon. ( I had an errand to run, was thirsty, was hungry, etc.).. I gave up after insisting someone CALL ME.
In the process too, I was asked for the security code on credit card, It had been on my husbands. So I tried to change it to mine and it wasn't allowed until 60 days aftr registration. So there was no way to pay if I wanted to keep my number, extremely difficult time getting it to even work on my computer. ANd my three phones could not be used, had to keep the computer on to use it. The electricity alone irked me. Dialing is an onscreen dialpad.. And if the electricity is off, guess WHAT? Sh out luck. no service. No 911. nothing. Please be careful .. Do not believe the hype or testimonials. MOST of all there is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE except online. Lord help a person who types hunt-and-peck style. What a waster of money and time this has been.
I received a notice that MagicJack would discontinue support for the original Magic Jack device that I have been using. They offered an update to the new MagicJackPlus for half the retail price. It seemed like a good idea so I went ahead and ordered it. Now I've spent over 3 hours online with their alleged tech support/customer service. So far they have managed to instruct me to use a USB scrub program. I asked if it would do anything to my other USB devices and was told that it would only affect the MagicJack. Not true. It ended up removing 72 files for all my USB devices, including my printer, my passport external hard drive, my hub and all my flash drives. And the Magic Jack is still not working. Don't waste your money or your time. I'll be going with Skype or back to Vonage.
signed up for 30 day free trial, only cost me $135.80, with 4 charges, would have been more, however i only had $161 available in this account, a special account for christmas. chatted with representatives 3 times during long sessions packed with please wait, thank you for being patient and we did not take the money, bull crap, my bank statement is attached i emailed them a copy of my bank statement(with security features blocked) and they continue to say, wait a few weeks and it might drop off, it is your bank. yes, a couple of weeks will be past christmas, thus i do not have to worry about christmas, they continue to claim that they did not do it, attached bank printout shows that they did
I landed at JFK on 9th July 2014 around noon. Called my brother in law for a minute on legacy pay phone to check if they were coming. Legacy charged me $11.2 for a call less than a minute and never mentioned the cost.
