I very much agree with the customer. I have faced the exact same problem . I renewed my subscription for five years about two years ago hoping to use this home phone instead of a cellphone for my prayer conference calls. Magic jack blocked me. The subscrition has been a total waste of hard earned resources, I really regret renewing this subscrition, the phone is just sitting there unused, while I still pay to use my cellphone for those calls. For every sin there is a punishment

Magic Jack is not user-friendly at all. To be able to make a long-distance call outside of US and Canada one has to go through a whole process that is so confusing, so intimidating. When you finally get a connection, you realize that Magic jack is charging much more than other long-distance call providers. I thought I was getting a good deal when I switched to Magic Jack and cancelled my previous land line. No I realize that this is not for seniors who are no longer computer savvy. I hope my first year of subscription will not give me heart attack. This is the first time I make a long-distance call and I am not sure how it will end. Good luck to myself.

Conference calls are a necessity to my new business. I am glad I never cancelled my Vonage. I will not be renewing my Magic Jack service.

This is my 2nd year to use magic jack. I never bought the 5 years because in the 1st year they suspended my long distance service/conference call service. I reported this to the Federal Trade Commission because this is not truth in advertising. I plan to do so again and report it to our state's attorney general. This is a rip off and a lie. As a retiree with a part time contract job, this seemed like the perfect fit. The guy at BEST BUY warned me, but I blew it off. Now like one of the above comments, I am getting Vonage and I will not renew this subscription. The commercial says tell your friends about magic jack. I intend to! This is terrible!

Hold on, you pay 20 bucks a year for phone service, and they are ripping you off to make you pay for conference calls? Are you serious? I agree with being cheap to save money, but you are honestly too damn cheap to pay for your conference calls? No matter what they charge for your calls, you still pay LESS for phone than anyone else in business. And since it is a business, hello, it is a tax write off.

This whole complaint sounds stupid.

I am really unhappy with the conference charges. I paid out for 5 years contract and now they want moe money. If I would have known that additional money will be involve in future then I would not have paid for 5 years contract. Thus I feel that MAJIC JUNK put me in a ditch. I would advise my relatives and friends not to buy MAJIC JACK at all. Majic Jack must stand behind the advertisment . This is called a rip off business.

Very sincerelly.

Two of my doctors apparently have 'conference' office lines. Thanks a lot, this is a ripoff. How much would this local call cost me, not documented anywhere.

I am having the same situation and the only exit is to make calls through your cell phone. They have not gotten there yet.

Magic Jack advertises FREE Local and Long Distance calls. Those conference lines are in the USA. Everyone needs to file a complaint with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). Magic Jack has to deliver what they advertise. The website is http://www.fcc.gov/ The one time I had an issue with MJ, I wrote them a letter stating that if it was not fixed by X date, I would contact the FCC. My issue was magically fixed.;

Just moved out of the country. Was told that MagicJack is the way to eliminate fees. When I signed up I was amazed at the fees to set up MJ. Now I was all excited to get onto a conference call only to be told that now I need to add more money in order to complete the call. This is a hindrance. Unacceptable. Not happy.

I don't know, i like saving money as much as the next guy and I'm sorry ppl feel like they had the rug pulled from under them re. services and such but, seriously, people expect way too much for too little $$ nowadays, and fail to understand that there is a cost to things and expecting everything for free is part of what has made the economy tank/ppl have no jobs. I'd much prefer to pay a real phone service and avoid these inconveniences & contribute to the economy, but such is life so far - I am one of the 'broke' and had to choose MJ over a 'real' phone. And now am also inconvenienced in that I have to run out and see what the hell I'm supposed to do about the one conference call a year I need to participate in. But not for that am I going to slam this amazing service for only like $20 a year people! COmpared to the $40 I was paying per month with Charter just $20 and $10 for the rest of the year for like 95% of the utility i need in phones is to me a Godsend. Don't even know if Vonage is capable of that.

I also paid for 5 years of Magic Jack and now today when I go to do a conference call from my home office, I am asked to pay more. Magic Jack's device broke on me within just a handful of months and then I had to pay for the replacement. The service has been one hidden danger, fee and problem after another and when the 5 years is up, or possibly before, I never use it again. I don't react well to FRAUD.

I got a "courtesy call" reminding me to pay for my number renewal. It expires in 30 days.
Until I pay it, however, I will have to listen to this "courtesy call" for every outgoing call I make EVEN THO IT IS NOT YET EXPIRED..

PHONE QUALITY IS LOUSY. Callers stutter, cannot hear me or cannot reach me at all. We have to reboot continually.

And now we have this annoying recording to deal with. Company chat says it is impossible to turn it off.

COURTESY?

I have a problem and I don't know what to do!
I can't connect my registration. When you give me the code, you tell me ask for the code.
When i com back with the code you ask me the same thing! I have no space to install the code.
What do I do?

I am not sure on the definition of a conference call.
I tried to contact Spirit Air Lines when my flight was canceled, they list an 801 area code number.
Magic Jack prevented the call, with a message that it is a conference call.

I always thought a conference call was one where multiple people are connected and talking at the
same time, and it usually requires pin number to enter the call or conference... something like net-meeting?
Well, I don't think that calling a help line for a canceled flight is a conference call... what is considered
a conference call, and how does the magic jack system interpret which calls are conference calls?

Magic jack is putting itself out of business. Anyone can buy a box for $20-$40 and setup the same service for free without dealing with these changes. The reason people get Magic Jack is it is slightly more convenient to get their service than it is to setup your own and it is cheep enough that you go or it. Make it more expensive and less convenient is something that only a monopoly could survive. you can get on a conference call with any mobile device and Wifi for free. The genius that came up with this idea is going to put Magic Jack out of business. I for one will support that end result if this is not corrected soon.

We have been MJ customers since 2015, but they are making it difficult to find reasons for staying with them. We suffer bad call quality, drop-outs while on the calls, no conference calling, and the latest problem (Jiune 2020)- receiving an email for renewal that was already paid in January. Support is unhelpful - especually since it was shipped offshore, previously I could call the US support line and get some kind of respolutions, now all I get is "we are sorry to hear about your problem, but it's company policy".
And now they also want us to pay for a "Premium" support service - REALLY?
Time to shift to a new provider I think - anyone have any idea's for non-US residents?
