mr. borislow, your ad sucks and really you are proud to show yr daughter, what you are really doing is teaching her at an early age to cheat, to be an honest crook. What a dissapointment you are and the company you represent. The customer service people they are very well trained to con you to believe that they are helping you out, but they are not...After a long period of time I decided to call it quits, I hope you and yr company dissapear from earth and hope I can read that Mr borislow is working a hard job instead of ripping people of its honest money. You are really shameful to the american people. Magic jack is the 2009 dissaster of the year. If I could I will send you on a trip one way to the moon, that where you belong and all your customer service people..

I'm into my second years service and could not be happier. Combined with Google Voice I now have a local number and a local number where my son lives 100 miles away as well! Magicjack has worked out absolutely great for me.

I am flabbergasted by all the negatives I read here. I am in Cairo, Egypt with an ADSL hookup in y home. I have two laptops - one Sager and one Asus. I borrowed a magic jack from a friend a couple of days ago. Plugged it into the Sager and had no luck getting a connection. Then I plugged it into the Asus and it loaded up and has worked perfectly ever since. Crystal clear at both ends and the ads are a minor annoyance at most.

I'm calling my son in Tennessee to have him pick one up for me at WalMart. Gee, that means I'll have to ship it 3, 000 miles baack if I want a refund. BIG DEAL! This thing works great. Sorry you cannot figure ot the technical problem that is probably on your computer - or between the headsets.

Dealt with crappy service for a year, go to renew because my number is posted everywhere and come to find out they won't renew! The message says they are only taking money from new suckers - unbelievable so I have a *** message being played for all who try to reach me advertising MagicCrap! Here is a unedited quote from their system when I tried paying for another year of MagicCrap [includes their misspelling, not mine]:

Due to the overwhelming demand for the magicJack, we are at this time only accepting orders from those who have not previously ordered a magicJack. Please visit us again in the future and we will try to accomodate everybody.

You let your one year subscription expire. That's on you. Once you fail to renew, you lose your number. That is your fault. This should be removed due to ignorance of the OP.

First, it's common knowledge that when you purchase a product locally at a store, you need to return it to that store if you're not satisfied or want a refund. NO COMPANY I have ever done business with will accept a direct return if you bought it elsewhere. This is not a MagicJack problem, it's a problem of misunderstanding on the part of this person, Jesse. Second, the ads are not obtrusive on MJ and for the price of one month's regular service for the entire year, they are very reasonable. It's also unreasonable for someone to expect that the company will tell you that they will have ads in the control panel, that's just crazy. And lastly, MJ service is not perfect, but it's an excellent value and I've been using one for over two years now and am VERY satisfied with the service and especially the cost. If you need PERFECT service, don't get MJ, it's just not going to happen for a service that costs $20 a year. It's just unreasonable for someone to get upset about a glitch or two here and there on a phone call for the price. In the two years I've used it I maybe had 3 or 4 issues with dropped calls or not being able to hear the other party. To me, that's awesome, even the old POTS landline I used to have had occasional problems, but I paid $30 A MONTH + taxes for that service. Bottom line, MJ is a great product for the price and I recommend it highly to anyone that wants a low cost alternative to high priced local telephone service.

I have been very happy with my MagicJack since I purchased it. As long as my ADSL is up and running the MagicJack works perfectly every time. I travel Internationally, and use it wherever I go with no problems. I can put up with a little advertising on the left pane of the screen, as it has never interfered with the device's functionality.

Jesse, thank you for your post about your MagicJack experience. I, like yourself, was excited to be able to purchase a device for 39.99 that would provide me with a year of telephone service in north america. I ordered my MagicJack over the phone after seeing a MagicJack advertissment on t.v., the automated answering system prompted me to speak all of my ordering information that was being recorded. Well, I anxiously waited and waited for the device to arrive, I paid for express shipping; 3 days no MagicJack, 5 days no MagicJack (I was waiting in business days). I went online and started a chat, I was actually wanting to find a contact phone number, the information that was transcribed from my phone order was incorrect. I did speak and pronunciated very cleaerly (my first language is english). After spending 1 hour on-line in a chat, first one agent at approx 30 mins, I was transferred to "one of their top 10% agent as rated by their customers" whom finally understood that I would not be able to receive the one they had shipped to me because I live in a townhouse that has a unit number (this was information that was not transcribed during my phone order - my unit number - there are over 100 units here). This chat occured on a Monday and I received the 2nd device shipped to me the following Friday. I would like to note that everything negative that has occured with the MagicJack device from that moment on; the moment when I first realized during that first chat encounter that my ship info was incorrect, I should have ordered a refund immediately. Actually, I did mention that I didn't want it anymore, I was frustrated that I was having a lenghty online chat to sort out an issue for which I haden't even received the product yet. The MagicJack agent told me this could not be done because a unit was already sent, all that could be done (and this was after my persistance in having the agent understand that the first device will never reach me with an incomplete address) was to send a 2nd device ensuring me that they have added my unit number.
I know of three people personally that have bought the MagicJack device; myself, and 2 good friends who do not know eachother. We all bought them around the same time, end of 2009 - beginning of 2010, only one of us still is able to use their MagicJack.
My story is already too long and readers digest version ending:
It worked for 6 months but not reliably for those 6 months. After the first 6 months I could only hear others but no one can hear me. I tried other phones, uninstalling and reinstalling the program for the device, to no avail. I contacted an agent through their chat (there is no one to ever speak with live) because initially it worked well, not great, well enough and for the price I added an additional 4 years of service. I was only 6 mths into my first year that came with the device and when I told the agent that my device didn't work (we also went through all the troubleshooting, try different phone, uninstall and reinstall) and only wanted to be reimbursed for the service that I have not used yet, the additional 4 years purchased seperatley and to begin after my first year would be over, the agent would only offer me the option to have a new device sent to me and I would have to pay the 9.95 for shipping and handling. Rememnber, I paid the expensive express shipping the first time and it took over 14 days to get the device and MagicJack did not reduce my shipping charge. Okay, this is not the readers digest version. My husband tried to warn me but no I had to see this through because...what if I could actually have phone sevice within NORTH AMERICA for $3.33/mth! - So I estimate that yes the MagicJack can work it depends on what you want to usse it for. If you need a reliable phone then MagicJack is NOT for you.

Always learn the hardway

A few days ago I had contacted support with an issue: I was unable to make calls to several numbers.

This is the email reply I received:

Dear magicJack Customer: We are working on interconnecting with the telecommunications carrier for the telephone numbers you have been unable to reach. The current rates charged by carriers are cost prohibitive. There is a legal requirement for all companies to interconnect if one carrier requests to do so from the other carrier. We hope we will be successful in doing so. If the party you were calling owned a magicJack, you would be able to reach them and they could call you for free too! magicJacks may be purchased at retail outlets like RadioShack, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and many more. As another alternative, the party you are trying to reach could download magicJack app. Or, if you would prefer, we would be happy to offer you a refund of your unused magicJack and related services per pro rata method, i.e., if used six months, the refund would be approximately $20.00. Please return your magicJack to the following address and enclose a refund request that includes your name, magicJack phone number and full mailing address. magicJack, LP Attention: Consumer Issues Department P. O. Box 16176 West Palm Beach, FL 33416 We will credit the form of payment you used to purchase your magicJack or mail you a check. Should you choose to return your magicJack for a refund, future registrations may be prevented. Sincerely, magicJack Customer Care

In essence they seem to be saying: too bad it would cost us too much to offer you calls anywhere in North America even though that is what we advertise

Offering a refund does NOT help me. I got rid of my land line for MJ. Also all of my business cards and flyers and advertising have my MJ number.

So I am stuck with MJ and have to deal with being unable to call important numbers. So I am going to have to get a land line to call the numbers that MJ cannot - rather will not - deliver on.

I am soooo appalled that MJ said:

"The current rates charged by carriers are cost prohibitive"

that is YOUR problem NOT mine

MJ's profit margin is NOT my concern

MJ needs to deliver on its promises

magicjack will not work with an aircard-their faq section tells you that it might not. I use mine on an acer laptop with a g wireless router, and have no problem whatsoever. Have many friends who swear by it. I doesn't matter if you have a $10, 000 computer, if you are using an aircard, it's probably not going to work well, if at all. The aircard is your weak link.
And even if you have to replace your magicjack eery six months, you're still getting service cheaper than with any other carrier. Maybe I and my friends are just lucky, but I love it! Now watch it break tomorrow.

I bought a magic jack one year ago. It got broken and I did not replace it. Magic Jack has charged my card without my consent ( calling it renewal) not once, but until all available funds were exhausted. They charged my card over 26 times! Now I am having problems getting back my money... No phone contact available. I can chat only with online Customer Service who hang up on me twice (one last week and the other this week) after refusing to let me know how long it will take for me to have a refund. Her eventual answer "try calling back next week". I still don't know when my funds will be returned to my account... There must be a way to legally deal with this company! Not withstanding the time consuming inconvenienceof trying to have magic jack retun my money; I consider their actions are highly dishonest! jenrichards67@gmail.com

The product works fine for me, acceptable quality considering the cost. The company itself appears to be very dishonest. I used my credit card to do a service renewal and discovered they keep the information linked to the account. All attempts to have the information removed was unsuccessful, am considering cancelling my credit card. Had to do a number change for another unit belonging to my grandson and asked what payment options was available. I was told I could use credit card or debit, prepaid credit card would not be allowed. I caught the support staff in so many lies that I decided to try the prepaid card anyway and discovered another lie, because it did work. I suggest that you avoid giving this crowd your credit card information, they are very dishonest.

I am experiencing an "error 32" intermittently. The Live Chat is an absolute joke - those people are incompetent and immoral. They have no idea what they are doing - I chatted 3 times for the same issue, and after they congratulated themselves for fixing the problem when they didn't really fix it, I told them that they did not fix it. They responded by acting like I was not responding in the chat and said, "Since you are not responding this chat is terminated", when I WAS responding - but they wanted the chat transcript to appear as if I weren't. There are no other options - there is no possible way to contact someone who will help you. I called the billing office [protected]), and asked to speak to someone who could help me, and she got angry and hung up on me. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! THESE IDIOTS ARE IMMORAL AND DISHONEST AND OFFER NO TECH SUPPORT WHATSOEVER. I am not joking about this - this company should be sued out of business.

Magic jack is the worst company I have ever dealt with. The product doesn't work as stated. The phone numbers are not free as advertised. You can't use your existing # as advertised. The calls time out when on the phone. Constantly drops calls. Their service is nonexistant. Their people know absolutely nothing about their product.
After 2 hours on the phone I got nowhere with this piece of junk.

I've used MagicJack for years and it has been flawless.

You can port in your old number.
A new number is free.

If your calls are dropping or timing out usually that is an internet issue.

Maybe they have different rates and rules for Canada.

Magicjack is far from flawless I spent 3.5 hours in a chat with their representatives, they respond back every 10-15 minutes totally unexceptible and they have no clue what they are doing. The calls do time out and it is discused in many locations on the internet . In Canada you cannot port your # and it is $10 per year extra for a Canadian # so yes it is false advertizing as they advertize in Canada.
Piece of junk do not buy one. I can't believe this site has them for one of their sponsors.
Read all the comments on the internet before purchasing if you don't believe me.

different rates apply to Canada.

As for the different rates, it is clearly states in their FAQ's:

"A small fee may apply for additional features such as Vanity, Custom, and Canadian numbers "

It has been flawless for me, but then again I live in the US and all the features are free as well. I have never had to speak to them for support, because I have never had a problem, nor have any of my calls ever timed out.

If there are many places these issues are discussed online, perhaps it would've been wise for you to read them prior to purchasing.

Let's just get to the bottom this. Magic Jack is great until it isn't. The minute you have a problem, just throw it in the trash and chalk it up to experience. The chat line just keeps you dangling. Love to see someone go under cover into one of their operations. They surly must be laughing their heads off about how much they can scam us out of. Thank goodness I just let Vonage get my number that I've had for 30 years back from them. Still I got an email saying, "sorry to see you go. Just click here to finish this transactions". This sends you to a page that says you have to pay an additional $31 to get the phone number back. Luckily, Vonage told me to ignore it. They had captured my original number. THIS IS A SCAM, PURE AND SIMPLE.

I am disappointed with the Magic Jack company I have purchase the Magic Jack telephone system about three years ago i have paid for my service every year . I have paid for the service for period 2012 to 2013. My problem started this month of April 2013 where the question to confirm my email address and password. and that is as far as i can go. this is not fair as i cannot use a system that i have paid for and there is no one i can get help and the help that is available you have to pay for that service.

Deceptive practices. I purchased the Magic Jack February 2012. 1 day after renewing this year, I called & canceled. I was told I would receive a refund within 30 days . Well it its been over 3 months. Live chat is a joke (Take offense Angela, Javier, Paolo & Maya). I communicated with them four times since then & today they claim no previous contact from me. They now tell me it is pass the 90 days to cancel & I am basically up the creek without a paddle and that there is no one else that I can contact. My account that previously showed as canceled since February, is now active without my permission until February 2014.

A friend recently bought me Magic Jack-Plus and since Sunday July 21, 2013, I have been on chat 24 hours with more than ten customer service agents to fix dial tone and overheating problem with the product but I am greatly disappointed.
The unfortunate part of the problem is that the customer service agent demanded to take charge of my computer and I naively gave the girl who gave her name as Katey and she compromised my valuable academic document and left the chat without notice for over three hours. she lacks technical knowledge and just fooled around with me, waiting my valuable time.
Similarly, other customer service agents lie about everything and ask you to close the chat link for the changes to take place, when in actual fact they want to end the chat because they feel ashamed to say I can't help, because the problem is beyond me. Ritchie is a classic example.
I can challenge them to provide the chat to the public to provide me wrong. I managed to copy Katey's chat and I intend to forward it to the CEO Mr Borislow. The management may be good but the customer service agents are very BAD and arrogant. Some of them are nice. Victor for example is nice and knowledgeable, but the likes of Katey who live customers stranded on the chat and take control of your computer and mess up valuable documents are not worthy to be with the company.
The product is very good, save that many customer service agents are not good and given bad name to the company and the product,
I challenge Katey to defend herself, and I will produce all the evidence.

Hello to all persons writing comments here about Magicjack.
I have had some difficulty with my device and was fortunate to get online support to correct the faults.
However prior to getting this done and in Googling to find contact numbers especially for Technical contact I came across "Technical services-[protected]".
I was doubtful about the info given to me and had to ask if they part of the Magicjack team or where they outsourced.
Needless to say, I followed through www.magicjackcares.com, exhausted all the trouble shooting questions and was eventually able to type/chat with some one who eventually solved my problems.
I was cautioned about Googling for phone contact info that can lead me to fraudulent "technical help" .
Be Aware that all info should be directed through www.magicjack.com and www.magicjackcares.com and not tale info from the internet as there are many scam artiste lurking within.
