I have a quiet series 300 also, I may as well wash all the dishes by hand because if I put them in the dishwasher with ANY food on them, it will still be there when it's done "washing" them and I'll have to do it anyway. That's even with EVERY feature turned on despite that it takes forever to NOT clean the dishes. I've had it for a year, it's the WORST dishwasher I have EVER used. The door latch stopped working about a week after the warranty was up so now we have to pry it out with a knife to get it to latch so it will NOT wash the dishes. Basically it's a $400+ dollar sanitizer and a waste of water and electricity. I will never buy another Maytag appliance. Any future purchases will be Kenmore.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am sooo mad! Sat home all day waiting for Maytag repair to fix my dishwasher for recall issue. NO call No show! What a great way to spend a vacation day! When I told customer service they should reimburse me for my lost time they said that it is not their policy. I now have a policy, I will NEVER buy a maytag / whirlpool appliance ever!
You'd think that if their repairmen have nothing to do, it wouldn't take them a week to come out and fix their stupid machines!
Add me to the class action lawsuit list. The rebate is only for another Maytag - why would I want another piece of junk? And my state doesn't offer the energy rebates anymore, so I'd be forking over another $350 minimum. No thanks!
PS take a look at "Maytag dishwashers recall: Is repair or rebate the best deal?"

AWFUL! DIRT, SAND, GRIT, ETC ALL OVER MY DISHES. NO MATTER WHAT I USE/DO. COUNT ME IN ON THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.
Gee. Lots of angry people out there. Just try this. If you do what I said above your dishes will come out spotless.
Update on my last e-mail: THEY CAME OUT SPOTLESS - not a one had grit or film. Make sure you have one of those plastic filters on the left side back of the dishwasher first of all. Mine should have come with one but didn't. Now it works great after the cup of vinegar in the middle rack and the tab in the utensil tray and running it through a cycle with no dishes in it. A class action suit for a $500 dishwasher, like how much would you really get - and probably 10 years from now?
We bought the Maytag Quiet Series 300 about 15 months ago and what a lemon. It just doesn't get dishes as clean as it should and so we wash them all by hand and then rinse the soap off with the dishwasher. What a poor excuse for a dishwasher. I am somewhat relieved to find that others have the same complaints. I took the disposal unit apart (that is a yucky job) but there wasn't any problem there. I think it is just a poorly built dishwasher. The control panel sometimes works and the dishwasher is just a waste of money. That's not something you would expect from a $400 appliance. No more Maytags and that means I'm leery of Kenmore as well since they're both made by the same manufacturer. I think from now on its Bosch or Kitchen Aid for us.
THERE IS A RECALL ON MAYTAG DISHWASHERS AND YOU CAN EITHER GET $150, OR $250 OFF A MODEL WITH A STAINLESS TUB, OR REPAIRS TO THE CURRENT DISHWASHER.
For additional information, contact Maytag at [protected] anytime, or visit the firm’s website at www.repair.maytag.com
RUNNING LIKE NEW AGAIN! After a few years, we were very frustrated with the Maytag dishwasher not cleaning right, leaving soap residue and food residue on the dishes, especially the upper rack. We tried all kinds of different soaps, rinses, settings etc. But I think I've found the problem and solution and want to help others having the same problem - at the back of the dishwasher where the upper rack "plugs in" to the water source for the spray arm, there is a removable "socket". The rubber seal where the spray arm plugs in was deteriorated. It seems like the water must have been gushing out of the connection instead of through the upper two spray arms and likely affected the water pressure for the whole dishwasher (not just the upper rack). Replacing that part in the back, a $20 piece, has made our dishwasher run like new again. It's called Station D and is available at many online parts stores. I ordered mine from www.appliancepartspros.com. I still rate the dishwasher a 3 star because our door handle is broken although that hasn't affected the operation, and the dishracks are splitting/rusting. Now that it is working right, we might just replace the racks instead of buying a new dishwasher. Hope this helps get your dishes clean too.
Wow, I was just looking for a replacement rack and found these comments. I have to agree, this thing is a piece of junk. It does not clean the dishes, the racks have disintegrated and the handle latch has broken. Mine does not seem to be too loud, however, that's probably because it is not cleaning the dishes! I used to swear by Maytag, not anymore!
What a mistake. I bought the Maytag Quiest Series and it is a piece of junk. I thought I just got a lemon. I purchased the one with a stainless steel tub and the 3 racks. The end pieces falls off and even got down into the motor. This past week, the mother board is on its way out. It counts constantly from 1 hour to 9 hours to 47 and back again. I will never purchased another Maytag dishwasher again.
I always thought Maytag was great, so I got the dishwasher. It kept breaking and under the 1 year warranty the repair guy would bring an entire new upper rack. When the 1 year was up and the wheels and hubs kept on breaking I found this solution www.maytagwheelhubs.com they sell stainless steel sets of hubs and wheels that will not break. Since I've installed them they it hasn't broken.
I will never buy another Maytag appliance! (Also had a Maytag fridge that was junk).
I have a 300 series also doesn't clean dishes and leaves food on the glasses. I have quit using this piece of junk and started washing dishes by hand. We will NEVER have another Maytag product in this house. Why isn't there a class action suit or product recall on this. Not right to a company to sell something that doesn't work, because nothing these days is cheap.
We purchased a Maytag 300 ( MDB 3) quiet dishwasher in 2002 for $ 633.73 installed. The installation fee was 120.00. After 3 months the handle broke, and we had the Maytag Store repair man replace it under warrantee. after about a year it broke again at a repair cost of $ 100.00. At 2 years old in 2004 the contol panel died, that was repaired and replaced for 97.00.
During the next 3 years we had the handle replaced 2 more times at about 100.00 per repair. I replaced it 2 more times myself after I found that I could buy the handle at an appliance service company for 17.00 so I replaed it myself, takes about 20 to 30minutes max. I called Maytag's service center about the handle and asked the customer service tech if there was a recall on the handles as it wasn't normal for a handle to break once a year. I complained to the customer service tech that we had spent more on repairs during the last 6 years that the value of the machin.
He indicated that there was no recall, and that they have not had any abnormal problems with the handle. He sounded like he was reading the answers to my questions from a book. I said that makes perfect sence because the appliance parts warehouse store in Reno had 50 handles in stock. Either they way overpurchased handles or they sell the hell out of them. We only use the washer about once or twice a week. It cleans poorly, after trying numerous brands of detergent and rince chemicals we have resigned to the fact that for this machine to clean well the dishes must be clean before we place them in the dishwasher. We have got in the habbit of washing the dishes first by hand then placing them in the dishwasher for a final wash. What a waste of time this machine has been. Now when it runs it sounds like popcorn popping, along with a buzz here and there while washing. I think its time for the dump. It typically costs more for a major repair than the cost of a new machine. The previus dishwasher we had was a Kitchenaid it lasted 20 years. One repair during that period. We had good luck with a Maytag washer we purchased 15 year ago, so we thought we would try the dishwasher. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB. On my way to the dump. No more Maytag junk in this family. Crummy product and a factory customer service tech that has been obviously instructed to lie to the customers.
my problem is that when ever I press normal wash button, it just goes to the rinse button and that is what is highlighted only.
dont know if the controls have gone bad or if it is locked. any suggestions.
Absolutely agree with the last eight pages of heartache caused by this pitiful excuse for a dishwasher. I have disassembled is thing twice in the past three years and remove the arms to clean them every month and it still makes water glasses filthy and cannot remove wet yogurt from a bowl on either the top or bottom rack. It smoked on the heated dry and Maytag still said it was not defective.
If I wanted something that smokes and makes clean dishes dirty I would have invited the Sopranos over for a few years. It would have been less irritating.
Good luck with your next dishwasher because this one will never be worth the time, trouble, or money we have all wasted on this once proud American icon.
WE have the Maytag AWS 300 quiet series. Agree, it is 6 years old and after all the little things have broken our warranty is up and guess what? Yes, the pump went out but it only costs $300 to fix it. This is a far cry from a new dishwasher but we will junk it anyway. I would rather buy anything than have this one any longer. Dishes are left dirty the inside is dirty after washing, and on and on. Do not buy this dishwasher. Maytag should have a heart and recall this. I may never buy Maytag again.
I've had this Maytag 300 for five years now, it came with the house we purchased. I have experienced all the horrible problems everyone else has, broken latch (repaired twice and still broken), rusted broken racks tines held together by tie wraps now, soap sedement left on top of glasses making it necessary to rinse everything off and dry by hand before I put them away, condensation drips out the holes and makes a puddle on the floor when I open the door, and it is NOT quiet! This is a horrible machine, a complete piece of crap, and I too will NEVER buy another Maytag appliance again!
I had a beautiful, sturdy, expensive stainless steel Maytag dishwasher. It was recalled and replaced (at my expense) with a plastic piece of junk (I only had a few models to choose from to get the rebate) Now, the junk Maytag dishwasher is also being recalled. So, I am expected to go and buy a third dishwasher, which I will be given $100 toward (probably about 10% of the price). It seems to me, like there is a scam going on; I would love to own a business where I could expect my customers to buy my product over and over every 2 to 3 years.
The reason the Maytag guy on TV is never busy, is because 1st of all: you can never get a hold of him, and 2nd: the product seems to be disposable.
Incredible! How many people have to complain about this POS! As you can tell, I also have a MAYTAG ' quiet ' series... What a waste of money. I have the same problems. I won't bore you with them.. Apparently everyone that owns one of these dishwashers has the same problems! It looks like MAYTAG could really care less about consumers. When you call they just want you to keep throwing money at it! I would have been better off buying a used dishwasher, that no longer worked, and Spending the $600. + all the money I've used in replacement parts, to HIRE a maid. She could hand wash the dishes and use the non-working dishwasher as a drain rack.. Oh wait a minute- that IS what I'm doing. EXCEPT I can't afford to hire a maid so it's MEEEEEEE-----standing there washing the dishes by hand, after Working all day! Thanks MAYTAG! "Hey MAYTAG, I have an idea, how about you make it right? How would you have liked it if everyone that bought one of your AWFUL MAYTAG QUIET SERIES DISHWASHERS had written you a check, only to have it NOT WORK, when you tried to cash it!". Of course MAYTAG would have taken us to court to recover their money! If there is a CLASS ACTION SUIT- call me!
After reading just a couple of pages, all I can say is "WOW"! Finally, I'm not the only one that got taken! We've never, ever thought it was quiet, in fact, just the opposite! We didn't have a lot of money, but I wanted to buy what I thought would last us, what a joke that was! Yep, repairmen (yes, plural!), have been out more times than I can even honestly remember, dishes look like crap, have actually ruined several of my Coke dishes, and now, it's possessed I think, cause it will sit there and flash the number 9 at us, then when you point it out, it stops! I'm glad we never had a big family, because it looks like we'll be doing dishes by hand for awhile!
Bought a maytag (whirlpool)dishwasher, is 3 1/2 yrs old and was used very little as there are only 2 in the house hold (1 load per week at most) control panel and control board went and if you could even get the parts it will cost $300 for parts and $160 for labour. Parts are on back order and could be months and months before we could get them so in other words this piece of crap whirlpool is disposible destend for the land fill when all that is wrong with it is 2 small parts that whirpool have made so expensive that it is cheaper to buy another dish washer than to fix it, there should be laws against this when all we here is reduce and recycle.
I will never buy another whirlpool product ever again, they are garbage and just don't last.
Purchased a new Maytag diswasher (2009) model number MDB4651AWWI... within the first year had it fixed about seven times...all for the same problem...service repair men ok..Maytag customer service less than acceptable. Requesting a new machine and have been denied because the machine is fixable ..however only for short periods of time...same problem continually occurs. I have also filed a complaint form with Maytag ... with no response from Maytag. Thank God I purchased Maytags extended service warrenty..or I would have stuck with this lemmon. I will continue to pursue a new dishwasher
One more for the road! Yep. My Quiet Series 300 is totally DEAD after just 14 months.
And, I have had to answer "no" to repeated questions about weather I bought an extended warranty. I thought if the thing lasts half as long as my last dishwasher, I'd be happy. I didn't think the electronics would quit after just one year, and require me to pay more than I bought the dishwasher for just 14 months ago.
First the repairman ordered a new electronics board. After three weeks, he came and installed it. Nope. That didn't fix anything. Still dead. He is refunding me the price of the part, but now thinks it must be the touch pad, and is ordering one of those. (Another two weeks. Uuuugh!) But that is more expensive than the first part he tried. The total bill with labor comes to more than what I paid for the machine.
Just terrible. Terrible quality for Maytag; will not buy that brand again. And, terrible that they want to charge you for a service fee to tell your that you will need to pay more to repair your 14 month old unit than you bought it for. Bad PR...
Mine as well is nothing more than a peice of crap. I have had the top rack fixed twice, the detergent despenser fell apart, and now my latch is broken and jammed in the door. Only about half the items on the top rack ever come out clean, it is very noisy and runs forever before the cycle is done. Maytag-never again.
Yeah, I had problems with my hubs breaking and the wheels. I found replacement parts at indestructibleparts.com made of stainless steel. Great solution.
I bought a Maytag Neptune washer six years ago. I just paid a repairman $100.00 for him to tell me that it would take $700.00 to fix the thing because the bearings went out and the whole tub would have to be replaced. That was how much I originally paid for the machine! What happened to going green? Why can't manufacturers make a product that will last a reasonable time. We don't make that kind of money to just buy another appliance every year or so. I thought I was getting the best..Boy, I thought wrong. Shame on you Whirlpool! I will never buy one of your products again. I also had one of your refrigerators! The thing couldn't make ice no matter how many repair people came out to try and fix it. At least I had the smarts to tell them to take that sorry piece of crap out of my house! Don't buy Whirlpool...Maytag...You will be sorry!
We bought this dishwasher a couple years back. It cleaned well, the dishes actually did get clean.
I didn't have much experience with the dishwasher a while a go since I didn't do the dishes (I was around 9-12 years of age). - I'm 14 now. Recently, since my brother quit his "chore" of loading & unloading the dishwasher. Oh, and the handle had broken off. Eventually, I took over, sick of seeing the dishes piling up. I had been using the Quiet Series 300 dishwasher for about a year or so, when about a month ago it stopped cleaning my dishes. It began when we bought glass bowls. I washed them in the dishwasher, and shortly after that the dishes began to leave water spots on the glass dishes. I prewashed them (just as good as hand washing them - and I STILL put them in the dishwasher.) and ran the dishwasher with the glass dishes clean. I opened it up, to find they were just as gross as before I had hand washed them. It's a disappointment to see the thing go to such waste after we spent some 400 dollars on it. It leaves nasty spots (not water spots, but almost.. etching I suppose...) on the glass. They're cloudy and subpar. I'm highly pissed off because now, I have to go back to hand washing the dishes. HAND WASHING? I'm a freshman in high school. I have 4+ hours of homework a night. I don't have time to sit and wash dishes for an hour, leaving my hands cracked and split. It really is a crappy dishwasher for the money we had spent.
Since I'm only 14, I can't just go out and buy a dishwasher. They've stayed relatively the same price wise, but still - around 300-450 dollars for a brand new dishwasher? That's ludicrous. We really can't afford to just drop that money. It's really going to become a hassle hand washing my dishes.
Continue taking your customers money Maytag, (shove it up your [censor].) I'm glad that you're happy doing such a malicious act.
I'LL NEVER PURCHASE MAYTAG IN THE FUTURE.
- We also own a maytag washer and dryer. Those work well, I guess it's just their DISHWASHERS they need to focus on.
- Connor
I CERTAINLY AM VERY SORRY
I have a Maytag Quiet Series 300 that has been recalled. I set up a service appointment and waited 5 hours for the repairman. He didn't show up or even have the descency to call. What a waste of a day. I contacted Maytag and insisted on a replacement since they're contracted service company can't keep their commitments. I want a working dishwasher without the flaming fire feature. So far, no response from Maytag. It's been over 2 weeks! How do we start a class action lawsuit?
Just after 3 years, my control panel and control board stopped working, the FIRST time. A little over 2 months later, the replaced parts stopped working again, a SECOND time. Then, most recently, the replacement parts stopped working again, a THIRD time. Just two days ago, the replaced control panel and control board stopped working altogether and starting washing in the middle of the night when no buttons were set to wash. None of the control work at all. Every couple hours, all the buttons light up and blink at me.
This dishwasher cost over $500.00 brand new. The control board cost $185.63 and labor & house call was $125.00. Every time, this adds up to over $1, 000.00. I could have bought 3 brand new dishwashers with the amount of the repair costs put into this one.
Suzy
Another note, is that it is going on the FOURTH time that this dishwasher has broken for the same part since April 20, 2010.
U.S. Codes provides that warrantys are void and mean when it comes to a product being unreasonably defective as this dishwasher happens to be. I don't think a class action suit is all that is needed. We all need FREE dishwashers with an upgrade for all the inconvenience and problems we have faced with dealing with the [censor], excuse the French, we have all gone through! They will tell you and talk about warrantys, but that mean nothing. They are us JUNK at a PREMIUM PRICE with the promise of high quality dishwasher. They broke their promise of customer satisfaction, as you can see by the many complaints submitted!
I totally agree with all these posts. Useless. Not even good for storing my roasting pan!
we have had our series 300 for 2 or 3 years. i hated it right from the start. shortly after we bought it, a repairman had to come out and fix the latch. he told me there were several complaints of this model having broken parts. as everyone else has mentioned on this board, it's very loud, made of cheap plastic pieces that easily break and doesn't clean dishes. we basically have to scrape and rinse the dishes before we put them in the washer, turn the tv up high so we can hear it while the washer is doing its thing, and then hand wash the dishes that have food particles stuck to them. i have no idea how maytag could ever sell such a poor quality product.
I have the same complaints as all the others. The latch broke off, have to jerk the door open. The prongs on the racks are rusting off. It makes a horrible groaning, grinding noise, possibly a motor or belt. The decibel level is 64-66 depending on how bad the noise is. It also runs for about 2 1/2 hours. All this started just after the warranty expired. Looking for another dishwasher, OTHER than a Maytag.
Recall Information: https://repair.maytag.com/prjjck10/default.jsp?siteCd=RCU_EN_CA&id=R173BV
We bought a Maytag Frontloading Washer just 3 years ago for over $1000 Thinking it would last and now it is ruined. It stopped working and I called a repairman (another over $100 bill) and he said there was a tear in the flimsy liner which allowed water into the electrical parts of the machine and ruined the expensive computerized parts. Not worth fixing.
I used to pay $50 for used washing machines which would last about 5 years then I'd buy another. Maytag is junk!
We purchased a Maytag Dishwasher "Legacy Series" "Quiet 300" with purchase price of 650.00. Six months after warranty expired the silverware basket was falling apart causing pieces to grind in component, the coating on dishware rack was falling off causing rust. Repeated attempts to have product serviced under the "good name" of Maytag, a company that should stand behind its name and supposed quality informed me that they would sell me a "repair kit" at half price IF I purchased it within 30 days. Letters all the way to top management produced the same run around results. I've informed Maytag that once this unit completely falls apart, I will remove it from my kitchen, purchase another non-maytag/whirlpool product and dump their unit on the front lawn of their manufacturing facility for all to see. Gee, they gonna call the cops?
My Maytag is model MSD2556. It is 4 years old and broken. The defrost system is broken, the icemaker/water dispenser is broken, the shelves fall out, the door liner is cracked, and small parts fall off.
Maytag and Sears will not repair any of the parts because there is only a 1 year warranty on it.
I expected a more reliable and quality product for $1, 449. I have read reports from other consumers with the same model that have had the same problems.
Maytag does not acknowledge a problem with these refrigerators. Obviously, if after only 4 years people are having the same problems, there has to be something wrong somewhere. I recommend to all consumers buying a new refrigerator, Do Not Buy Maytag!
I love my maytag and I called Jetsons they were wonderful and fixed it within a30 minutes. They are wonderful!
I bought their "top of the line" stainless dishwasher with the hidden controls. Within a year, the controls went out. They replaced the part, which I had to pay labor for. Within 6 months it went out again. Same problem...control panel shorted out. I had to pay about $300 to fix it again. Within 60 days, the control panel went out again. And the only thing Maytag said they can do is to give me 50% off parts. I still have to pay for labor on a until that is obviously defective! They simply do not care about your problems, once they sold you one of their products! Never buy Maytag!
