***Update* I have filed a claim with LA Superior Court. I discovered that this organization is the subject of numerous lawsuits and found that deposit theft, fraudulent billing, mismanagement, etc are clearly a pattern, if not a policy. Numerous former tenants have sued (and won) for these exact same things, and multiple class actions are in progress. Apparently the legal costs of stealing from tenants doesn't outweigh the profit because it's still happening.***
The Marquee Apartments have, in bad faith, added several thousand dollars in charges to my account. The management company has ignored all attempts at contact to settle this issue. This includes dozens of calls and emails. This is the latest of a pattern of adding undue charges, which will also be detailed below. Current issues include: **$125.00 - Late Fee- All payments were made on time and exceeded total amount due. (Extra $ was even added in case of any move-out fees). **$600.80 - Bad Faith charge for wear/tear, painting. **Ignored request to be present for inspection. **VIOLATION of Civil Code 1950.5 (a)** **$563.00 Bad Faith charge "Insufficient Notice 9/13-9/22". (Signed/dated, confirmed received by management, 30 day notice) **$750 Security Deposit. Must be returned in full as company violated local laws as well as lease agreement. Past Issues: **Apartment repeatedly added charges to account under "Renter's Insurance". Apt had been provided with, and approved, the policy I had through my insurance company. Despite repeated apologies and promises to reverse these charges, it still took over a half dozen visits to the office to remind management of the issue before it was resolved. Shortly after this exact situation was repeated, eventually ending with the same result, a refund and an apology. **Apartment has failed to manage pest control issues on the property.. Eventually professional services were brought in, however this was not maintained. This is one of the main reasons I did not renew my lease. This issue cost several thousand dollars in lost goods, as I had to throw out food, furniture, and clothing. Estimate: $3,000. **Failed to provide adequate air conditioning unit, unit did not meet a livable standard in summer months.
Desired outcome: Detailed in court filings.
