I had a unit at simply storage (now public storage) for years, a closet really-- with sheetrock walls and a ceiling. Totally enclosed. I moved antique wool, hand knotted rugs from my house (got a new puppy) into storage to make sure they stayed in good condition. When I got them out of storage and brought them home to clean and put back in the house, I found that they were destroyed by moths. Completely destroyed. I filed an insurance claim with Public Storage's carrier. They gave me $500 and said it was the maximum allowed by the policy and to call public storage for a better reimbursement. The rugs were worth $30,000. I sent this information to the public storage headquarters chief legal officer, certified mail, asking for consideration. My father bought these rugs in Eastern Europe during WWII and they had great sentimental value. They never responded. They don't answer the phones at the HQ either. This is a place that you should only store things valued at $500 or less. And honestly, why store stuff that's not valuable right? Which makes this place utterly useless. They absolutely do not care what happens to your things. So if you value it, don't store it here...
Recommendation: Don't store anything here valued over $500.
