truck driver
One of your trucks was passing through Parker, Arizona this evening hauling WAY over the speed limit through our town, which is 35, and was swerving all over the roadways/in and out of the lanes. When he got behind me, he ran me off the roadway and came within inches of rear ending me TWICE. The only number I could see on the back of the truck was 50802. This is unacceptable behavior when driving a rig that size as he could have caused a serious accident and possibly killed someone because of it.
bakery
From the start it was a mess. No one seems to be on the same page, I wanted to have an image put on my cake and got a million different stories from the machine not working, to the image request not possible for them to do. Today was the last straw. I called to make a minor change to my order (originally ordered a full sheet and wanted to change that to a half sheet) also wanted to change the pick up time) I was placed on hold not once, not twice, not even three times but four times, I was asked my name the last time and then after waiting about 30 seconds was hung up on. Frustrated at that point I called back yet again, this time connecting to the bakery manager that informed me this was the first call they received... this is sad Safeway yet again finding another way to make my experience HORRIBLE. I informed her that if it wasn't for the cake being needed the very next day I would of just cancelled the whole order. I'm done with Safeway ON 1211 W College Ave in Santa Rosa . I would advise you NEVER order a cake there...
service and unnecessary use of injured employee
8/28/18
while waiting in line for an extraordinary length of time, I noted that the checker has her right arm in a sling. She was obviously impaired by this and why is she allowed even to be at work? I moved to another line and this checker asked me if everything was alright, I said no, she noted "well she has only one good arm' or something to that effect, the the other one good arm checker pipes in well the customer I was waiting on needed to check her prices and I had to make sure she was credited correctly."
First off NO employee with such an injury should be working as a checker, or for that matter at any position until she is well. Second, The correct response would of been, "sorry about that, lets take care of you." that is all that needed to be said. This store had had a long history of crappy customer service and seemed to be getting better but now is again managed half-haphazardly. FRED MEYER here I come!
angela/prejudiced employee
08/24/18
I went to order a birthday cake, when I got to the bakery there was a woman by the name Angela she was assisting a couple very cordial, when it was my turn she started to speak in a very loud voice and talked to me as if I was deaf " If-you-want-to-order-a-cake-you -need-to-do-it-NOW!. At the moment I was with my daughter and I didn't want to make a big deal about it, so I patiently explained what cake I was going to order when it explained what I wanted to be written on the cake, she asked me very loud again like if I was deaf. DO YOU WANT IT IN SPANISH?. At that point I asked her if she could read English?, I did not see the need to ask me that, I spoke English, she ignored me and tried to make feel worthless. The next day I sent my daughter to pick up the cake when she got home I checked the cake and it wasn't even the one I ordered. The one I ordered was supposed to be a soccer field cake with 2 players and a 2 soccer goals in each side. See attached what we got instead. I truly believe she did it on purpose. I was talking to my Guests (we live in the area) They also told me that they had encounter bad experiences with this woman, and that she usually works at the self cash registers my brother told us of how one time he finished his purchase and was about to leave when she yelled at him and ask him to his receipt, He said that was unusual since he was in line and he didn't see her asking other people for their receipts.
As you know your business is doing good thanks to all the diverse customers you have, and to attract and retain diverse customers, you need to either educate your employees or let go of the bad apples. When I saw the cake my daughter brought home I called the Manager Andrea and she offered a $10 Gift Card. I do not want a gift card, a $10 Gift Card doesn't ease the bad moment she made me, and my family member go through, and I'm sure more people have encountered bad moments with this employee. I want you to make sure all the customers get treated with respect, and dignity.
deli food
For several years Safeway has provided Asian take-away food in their deli department. I never had any issues with it, accepting that it was either over-fried and under-seasoned with too much sauce in the container and inadequate actual food items. Yesterday I purchased a "bowl" which consists of rice or chow mein with an entree on top. I requested steamed rice with chicken teriyaki on top.
Once I was home consuming the bowl, I found that the rice I got wasn't steamed. It looked and tasted like it had been sitting in stale water for hours. The chicken teriyaki had maybe two little pieces of 1/2" chicken in it. Wait - that wasn't chicken - it was some horrible piece of sinewy nothing that tasted like a dirty old dishtowel. Was it bland? Was it flavorless? You bet. Was there anything remotely resembling teriyaki in it? No. Was there plenty of celery and mostly nothing else? You got it. What happened to quality? What happened to customer service? What happened to value for money?
I remember about 40 years ago when Safeway was a grocer to be reckoned with. Now that they refuse to provide self-service checkouts and their cashiers are one step up from Goodwill employees, the Safeway name is completely without merit. The store seems to think that they will convey an illusion of desirability if customers are kept waiting in line for 15-20 minutes to pay for their overpriced groceries. I can still remember the time one of their obnoxious clerks asked me if I needed help finding something (which Safeway does about 20 times during your visit), and I said, "Yes - eggs." And he couldn't find them.
The man who owns this corporation should be ashamed. I will never patronize your store again. Sooner or later, you will be out of business because enough consumers will eventually agree with me that what you are providing isn't worth the cost or the inconvenience.
self check out
I was told by the employee working self check out that I was required to set all items on the scale instead of pressing skip bagging option. I had only pressed it once before this employee came over to harassing me demanding I set my items there. I noticed she was not offering help to anyone else or staring how she was at me. It was a very uncomfortable experience

deli - fried foods have a chemical smell/taste.
The fried foods in the deli, chicken, pizza sticks, corn dog etc suddenly started having a chemical smell and taste. At first I thought maybe the oil had been over heated, but it has happened several times now, so it makes me wonder if the fryers are even being cleaned properly, or at all. The deli has become very understaffed in this store, there is always a huge wait and I feel sorry for whoever is working because everyone is mad at them for the wait..which of course is not their fault. I won't be getting anything fried from the deli again. I shouldn't have to ask to smell it first to make sure it isn't a chemical buffet before buying.
Yeah that sounds scary. Who knows what you were smelling!
racism
For two years, I've noticed Safeway (Honolulu, Kapahulu) has some "white" staffs that are very arrogant to customer(or just to me, because they are very nice to WHITE customers), reminds me of those days in Australia being treated as an "Asian". 13 years in Hawaii, I forgot I am an Asian, because Hawaii is a state of Asians.
Today I went shopping in Safeway (Kapahulu) again. The self -check out machine I went to did not work (the notice was not clear, you have to get there to see the sign). I had to look for another machine. By this time, a long line was formed. The staff insisted I should go back to the end of the line (simply because Safeway staffs did not write a clear sign on the broken check-out machine).
I chose a check out line with their staff. In front of me was a White man. The female check out staff had a very long and cheerful chat with this white customer. When it was my turn, she looked at me, and did not even say "Hi", after I said "hi" to her. She no longer has her smiling face, and looked at me really cold. "But she is an islander, an Asian!" I thought. That staff at self-check out machine doesn't look very "pure white" either. Does Safeway train their staffs to cheer up White customers? Why is this Safeway so different from all other supermarkets in Hawaii (Foodland, Times)? Why, for 13 years living in Hawaii, this safeway is the only place reminds me of RASICM?
What did they teach their staffs? Aren't management Hawaiian local? What make this supermarket so "White"?
manager by the name of francine
Approximately two weeks ago or a little longer the potato chips were on sale for a $1.99. it was the Lay's brand potato chips. The limit on them was 4. Apparently the coupon was only for one time use. I didn't use the coupon before nor have I ever bought any thing from that store in over a week. I addressed this issue to the checker then she called to her manager which was the manager Francine. she told me she couldn't do anything about it and rudely walked away. any other store or any other manager would have just didn't an override and I know they can do this because a similar situation has happened before. I even told her why can't you just do an override and she just ignored me and continue to be rude. I did tell her that she was a terrible manager and that I was going to complain about the issue. The next week I went to the store with my service dog. I am disabled and my dog is registered with the Department of Justice. The same manager was in there (Francine) she walked up to me and told me there's no pets allowed in the store I told her I said she's not a pet she's a service dog she had her service vest on. Instead of asking me what type of Duties does my service dog perform she said whats your disability? I told her that's none of your business you are not supposed to ask that or address me in that manner. Then she said she can't ride on the cart. I said fine I'll make her walk then. Not only is this manager unprofessional but she is purposely pointing me out and picking on me when I go into the store now. I feel that this is not going to be the only complaint I have on her and I believe every time I go into the store she's going to have some things to say about my service dog. I don't think this lady should be manager she does not have the customer service skills or communication skills to be in this position.
poor customer service, shelves weren't stocked

I have been shopping at Safeway for over 20 years, however; this time after I completed my shopping I went to the Customer Service desk for a raincheck. The display for the salads on sale was practically empty so I continued shopping with the plan of getting a raincheck.
After I completed my shopping and paid for my groceries, there was no one working at Customer Service so I had to wait.
After waiting awhile, someone came over and when I asked for a raincheck for the salad that was on sale, I was told by Terrill Givens that he wouldn't give me a raincheck because they had begun to put some out.
I told him that I had completed my shopping and I had perishable food and I would just come back another day.
He refused to give me the raincheck and proceeded to tell me that 'he wanted me to get it then'. I couldn't believe that I was being spoken to like this.
When I asked him for the Store Manager, he told me that that was him.
I have not been back to Safeway since. I have shopped there since the late 1990's and have never had any problems.
I am disappointed that any customer would be spoken to like that. I'm very disappointed in Safeway. I would not think that they would have someone representing them in this manner. It was poor customer service, poorly stocked shelves and the person was very disrespectful to me.
I found out later that he was not the Store Manager, but he told me that he was.
This incident happened on Saturday 8/11/18, at Store 1882, located at 990 East Swann Creek Road; Fort Washington, MD. 20744.
I would like to know that some operational training/methods would be put in place so that customers are not treated as I was. When shelves are not stocked, customers should be able to receive a simple raincheck without having to endure such disrespect and an unreasonable demand that I continue shopping after I've waited for someone to come to the Customer Service counter and have completed my shopping. Then when they come, they refuse to give me the raincheck.

customer services
I was shopping in Safeway in Prince Rupert British Columbia on August 12 at 5pm with my friend and she picked up a package of sausage that was in store special for .99 and when got to check out it rung up at 3.69 so she pointed it out to cashier and called for price check and the young East Indian manager said that $3.69 was right price so we talked with an employee in meat department said .99 was right price cause she personally put the tag on it herself so the young manager on shift still argue with us with a real rude attitude and I spoke up and said that this is not how u deAl with the situation and laughed at us and continued to say to me "are you telling me how to do my job" I said no but u shouldn't speak to any customer in that tone at that point my friend was getting frustrated and she gave me her bank card and told me to pay for it while she went outside to get some air cause she was getting real frustrated. So I put in the wrong PIN number by mistake and the young East Indian manager said "oh she probably doesn't have enuff money to pay for this stuff". I felt really embarrassed and frustrated on wat this "manager" said and how he made us feel. As a manager he should be trained to deal with these situations and not be condescending to the customer employees should make the customers feel like they want to come back I cannot complain in store because they don't take complaints seriously. I hope that something is done about this situation because a customer should never leave the store feeling upset thank you and I hope that this is taken seriously. I enjoy shopping at Safeway but now I get anxiety just walking through the doors fearing that I will have to deal with that "manager" again
Nothing happened when I complained in store
digital coupons
I tried to use a coupon from my weekly flyer which turns out to be a Digital Coupon at your Coeur D Alene Safeway store on Neider Ave, yesterday about 1 PM - The item I wanted, Krusteze Baking Mix, was out of stock so I attempted to get a Rain Check - The girl at Customer Service would NOT give me a rain check - I asked to talk to a manager who proceeded to explain the rudiments of the Digital Program, which I do not have as I don't have a Cell phone or a computer that can 'produce' the digital coupon or the 'apps'. She was recalcitrant and argumentative & finally said she would give me a rain check "this one time".
It was a Harsh & Rude experience - What's up with the Digital Coupon(s)? AND why couldn't I get a Rain check easily? So much for the Loving care... Let me know what's up at [protected] from 8 AM to 11 pm (Pacific) 7 days a week.
Also, I tried calling the [protected] & your system told me to call back later or just hung up on me - This makes me very cranky - it says you don't really care,

the manager at safeway in woodland park
Hello my name is Jesse Thompson,
I am unfortunately filing this complaint against I believe here name is Angela, a manager at your woodland park Colorado store, the address to this store is 1101 US-24, Woodland Park, CO, 80863. I was trying to scan my food at the self check out and apparently I was scanning too vigorously so Angela came up and said with a very nasty and mean attitude like we had stole something or had previously done something wrong " You're not supposed to do that you messed up the machine " and I replied with "well it wasn't scanning so I figured I would try something different, to see if I was screwing something up" there was a lot more said and I wish I could give you better specifics. Then she called for security and a few other fellows came up and asked what was going on we explained it to them as you will see on your security tapes who showed up and they all replied with It's no problem we understand this is not the first time we've had a complaint with her I'm assuming they met Angela and then one young man Rung our groceries up again after Angela ran over and canceled our purchase right before it went through and said we're so terribly sorry, Then after we purchased our steak and potatoes Angela followed us outside and said we are no longer allowed at the store, which I have been going to for over 30 years now, i've been trying to support the local smaller stores because I don't like what Walmart does to small communities going in opening up a store shutting down all the little mom-and-pop stores then because they don't create enough revenue they shut down their store and everybody is out of luck. And I will not be back to the store because of the appalling and rude behavior of the apparent management and I will inform all of my friends and family of such rude behavior I am not a large member of this community and I do not have that much pull, your store will not suffer that much from me and my friends no longer doing business with you, but as we were being harassed walking through the parking lot a lady randomly stop me and said I hate that woman I've had nothing but trouble with her, even the customers who were across the Kiosk from us said to the lady that we did nothing wrong, and also voiced this to the other coworkers around, I sincerely hope that you can see this behavior as rude unprofessional and unacceptable, it really seemed like she was very unhappy or perhaps having a very bad day, nevertheless when you deal with customers on a daily basis you cannot afford to allow your personal life to dictate your work ethic. I sincerely hope this does not fall on deaf ears and that this matter is taken seriously. I will return to the store to ensure this matter has been taken care of, if it has not I will seek more severe measures to ensure this lady does not insult and make other customers visits unpleasant. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I feel like you would want to know as I am a small business owner myself I would want to know if my employees made my customers feel the way that I did on August 14, 2018
Thank you for reading this and taking care of your loyal customer Jesse Thompson
no reaction at all on previous safeway complaint registration
Dear Sirs,
I had a very bad experience in Safeway Washington DC / Store 2892 on June 30th.
I wrote a complaint (4 pages) detailing my experience and filed it on line on July 2nd (Comments & Questions / Other case nr #1164429).
I sent a reminder via mail to the mail address in Phoenix AZ.
As per the date of writing, I regret that I have not got any single reaction on my issue.
Best Regards,

hot/deli food
I just went in a Safeway to get chicken strips and potato wedges. The food looked like it had been sitting for awhile but should still be fine to eat. When I get home to eat the food, the chicken was dry and hard and the potato wedges were completely inedible. Disgusting really. Don't taste like potatoes AT ALL. I will never buy food from Safeway again if this is the type of food you serve.
overcharged
After Shopping at store number 1629 in Salem Ore, I noticed that I was overcharged for a bottle of gatorade. It should have been 69 cents and I was charged $3.38. I am retired and this may not seem like a lot, but for me, it is.
I do not think that it was done on purpose. The wrong code may have been entered.
I did not know how to address this as there was no way I could show that I did not buy this amount of gatorade. Perhaps the inventory sheets at the end of the month may show this; anyway, I hope that I can be reimbursed for this over charge.
Thank you,
Pauline Lange

I was at the Safeway 8858 Waltham Woods rd, Parkville/ Baltimore 21234. The slicer is broken for the Artisan breads. I was told that it has been broken for 3 yrs. there are times I would like the bread that I buy to be sliced thinner than what the standard slicers offer. I've also been told that the sliver can only be used for artisan breads. Why? Also if your company doesn't feel the need to fix the slicer, I'll take it off your hands for free. are all the Safeway artisan slicers broken in the area 9645 Belair Rd, 21128 and 4401 Harford Rd, 21214?
Let me know what Safeway decides.
non delivery/no follow up/no customer service
On August 8, 2018 I ordered my groceries by 7am for delivery between 5-9pm. At 6:16 Eric the Safeway driver calls to say he's running late and it looks like it will be closer to 10pm. I tell him that's fine because I I want my groceries and I've been looking forward to this delivery all day. At 9:53 my phone rings and Eric says he has bad news, unfortunately he won't be able to deliver. On my end I'm frustrated and angry and tell Eric to cancel and refund my money. That evening I email my complaint reitering my request for a refund. I also said I'm done with Safeway as this has happened twice before in last year. I didn't hear from customer service on Thursday or Friday. My bank confirmed my $150.00 purchase yet I don't have groceries or money to go elsewhere. Today is Saturday and after 3 calls I finally got through to dispatcher in Phoenix, Arizona to hear I have to wait 3-5 business days for a refund or she could check with local Safeway for possible delivery today or tomorrow. Come on really. FYI if I'd been willing to pay extra I could have had Insta Cart deliver the very morning I originally ordered. There is something very wrong with your system that a paying customer gets treated so poorly. I'm low income and visually impaired and Safeway has made my shopping experience a nightmare. I hope others don't go through this same situation.
chicken, beef
On August 1, 2018, I went to shop at Safeway at about 7:30 AM, I asked for the weekly ads, and they said there were none, this has never happened at any supermarket I shopped at. I went to the meat department, to the Beef section, and noticed that there were no sale signs, showing the new lower prices, the Beef packages was still showing the prices from the prior week that were higher priced, the signs were never put up for over an hour, even after I had left the store. I went to the chicken section and there were chicken packages with a sell by date of July 31, 2018, but the date was August 1, 2018, upon further checking I saw other meat there that had exceeded the sell by date. Other customers noticed the no sale signs in the beef section and they did not buy any beef. The store opens at 5:00 AM. I went to checkout, and I asked the cashier about the sale prices, and they stated that they had to change prices to the lower cost several times, after customers pointed it out to them, because they receive ads at their home address. I had to report the Chicken that was being sold past the sell by date, to the USDA, because it is a violation of Federal laws, as the representative I talked to stated. I know that Safeway normally has a high integrity in the supermarket business, but the store in Coolidge, AZ., according to the local shoppers, that its common knowledge, that the store is Ghetto, and that some of the people that work there, are in the criminal justice system, probably because of the proximity to the prison system in Florence, AZ, only 8 miles away.
