I have today discovered 2 unathorised payments taken from my Bank account in the name of Shopperdisc.co.uk for £10.00 on the 11th of each month, December 2012 and January 2013. I do not know what these payments are for and have not ever made any agreement with the company, Shopperdisc.co.uk. I contacted the Bank who informed me that I must have ticked a box agreeing to the payments. I then recalled that I had ticked a box for discounts information and vouchers to be e-mailed to me, in the style of Groupon, but at no point did it state that I would have to pay some money. Surely if I had to pay some money I would have had to give my bank details and agree to the money being taken. This was not the case. The Bank informed me that they cannot stop the direct debit and so therefore I demand that you stop any further deductions immediately from my bank account, and give me a full refund for the payments taken so far.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I FIND IT AMAZING THAT THE LAW IN THE UK ALLOWS THIS TO HAPPEN.
I HAVE JUST NOTICED THAT SHOPPERDISC.CO.UK HAVE BEEN TAKING £10 FROM MY ACCOUNT, WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE, OR ANY DELIBERATE PERMISSION BEING GIVEN.
I HAVE CANCELLED MY SO-CALLED MEMBERSHIP AND WILL BE SEEKING A FULL REFUND, NOT JUST ONE MONTH!
How can they do this without breaking any UK laws?
I bought two items from ARGOS and that is where I must have inadvertently signed-up for these people.
I have cancelled my so-called 'membership' and been told I will have one months refund. I don't think so. I want all my money back.
Re Shopperdisc.co.uk (biller name)
Following taken from Wikipedia site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shopper_Discounts_%26_Rewards
"Shopper Discounts & Rewards is a UK company based in Kent, England. Its parent company Webloyalty is based in the United States.
Shopper Discounts & Rewards describes itself as "a premier online savings service operated by webloyalty". However, various sources including the US Senate, [1] international newspapers, [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] and money advise websites [8] [9] have described its business practices using terms such as scam, robbery and theft.
It is owned and operated by Webloyalty whose headquarters are in the United States. One of it’s founders and CEO is Rick Fernandes.
Shopper Discounts & Rewards, attracts members by offering a money off voucher when they have completed a purchase on websites such as Premier Inn, TheTrainLine, Ryanair or Interflora. [2] Online shoppers who signed up for these "money-off vouchers" then find their bank accounts and credit cards are being raided in mysterious monthly payments, many claim they have no memory of ever having agreed to the payouts. [9]
In 2009 Debenhams and B&Q severed or suspended their links with Shopper Discounts & Rewards.[13]
In 2009 Webloyalty was called before a US senate commerce committee to explain its business practices.[14] Webloyalty responded to the Senate Committee's proposed bill by saying it had already refined its practices to help address senators' concerns and that it would fully comply with the bill once it was enacted [15].
In the U.K., the consumer group Consumer Focus has confirmed it is looking at this type of website and addressing what can be done to address such consumer complaints as unexpected credit card billings.[2]"
Webloyalty has almalgamated with the Affinion Group.
My comment: Laws need to be changed to deal with these ###!
They've finally said they were issuing me with a refund - against the credit card I had to cancel because of them! So where will my refund go - and seeing is believing though I've hassled them so much they would probably do anything to make me go away.
They sent me copies of emails I was supposed to have recieved from them. These clearly indicated they had been sent to my brother in the UK (I live in Australia) !.
fed up with this problem of them taking £10 pounds out of my account for no reason. Having to write to them to try and get my money back that as been coming out since last December. Been told by the bank i can not stop the transaction but they will monitor the situation. Think i bought a product of the internet and thats how they got my details. Got to do this letter so by for now. Lisa from WAKEFIELD..
Perhaps everyone should write to CONSUMER FOCUS in UK as they were apparently looking into this. Don't know if they have any clout though - send a copy to local politician?.
Yes, I have also been caught out! I have contacted my bank, unbelievable they are are using 'recurring visa' to flout UK laws and consumer protection. Yes, it was good old Argos! I think if enough people got together, a lawsuit could be taken out against Gus (Argos). I have threatened the financial ombudsman, trading standard, and will write to the Sunday Times and contact Watchdog. I think a claim to counter sue could be possible?
Good on you angryofwycombe! Give them a hard time like I did. A camera crew into Argos with a probing tv investigation might be a good start to frighten off all the ### that put us in the position of being easy prey to these vultures. Argos should be ashamed of themselves! - they must be getting some profit of this scam.
I HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAVE BEEN TAKING MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT TODAY IT LOOKS LIKE OVER THE LAT 15 MONTHS AT A TENNER A MONTH £150 TO SAY I AM FUMING IS PUTTING IT MILDLY FROM LINDA
Linda,
Sorry to hear you also have been targetted.
You could write to Argos assistant PR Manager: Louise Hedges Louise.Hedges@homeretailgroup.com Its about time they severed ties with shopperdiscount ###.
Also write to shopperdiscount ###: customerservice@shopperdiscountsandrewards.com
to cancel "membership" and get refund.
Be persistant and tell them what you think!
Also write to local politician.
I have today, 29 November 2012, noticed that shopperdisc have taken £10 from my credit card after I bought something off Amazon. I have emailed shopperdisc to cancel any payments and asked for a refund, no reply as yet.

I too have noticed that shopperdisc are taking £10 per month from my account. I went to my bank ( Yorkshire Bank ) and was shocked when they said they could not stop the payments!. I asked why not, and was told that because it wasn't a direct debit. They did not have the power to stop them ! They also said that I must have ticked a box agreeing that they could take money from my account. Now I'm the guilty one for some reasen. I was given the banks fraud department phone number [protected]) I had to contact them and get the payments stopped. Why my bank cuold not do this is beyond me. but then it is an 0844 number. Yes even they wanted their pound of flesh!

I just checked my bank account today and see that these jokers have taken £10! I never authorised this and will be demanding a refund. If they have been doing this for so long (which looking at these complaints they have!), how do they continue to get away with it?
Hello! I we also noticed since last month that I have been charged 10 pounds by shopperdisc.co.uk not sure who are they and how they got my bank details as I am sure have not signed up for anything like this.
Be careful when buying stuff from the Argos website there is a link to Shopper Discount at the bottom of the page when you have bought something, if you click on it you will be charged £10.00 per month.
Hi i checked my online banking today and also have had money removed by shopperdisc.co.uk of ? £10.00 my bank seems to claim i *must* have given them my details? or i have a reacurring transaction of which they have gotten hold of my details? this is in no way something i wanted to here from santander! they say i have 15 days to give the company notice to give me my money back? i want it back now!
Hi, we discovered 21 payments taken from our account.
Found out that it was as a result of a discount voucher that was offered when booking tickets from a well known ticket purchasing company. We rang shopperdiscount customer services freephone number, trying to remain as calm as possible, but mentioning key words like "scam" and " you did not have explicit permission to access my account" and " I have never made use of any discounts". After about 5 minutes, they caved in and offered 3 months refund and sent us a claim form for the balance. We sent the claim form in, accompanied by the letter on this forum. The remaining credits have now appears in the account. This took 2 weeks in total.
Do not give in - stay calm and insistent that they are completely in the wrong and they know it. Good luck
Same thing happened to me what a scam how do I stop it?
Shopper Discounts & Rewards company is alive and well regardless of what they told the US Senate!
This company somehow got a charge onto my new credit card. I've had this card only two month because of two fraudulent charges on the card preceding it.
There have been only two charges legitimately made to this card, one at WalMart and one at Sam's Club. There have been no online purchases made with it?
It is a complete mystery to me and to my credit card company how these people got my new credit card number?
Wikipedia gives the impression that this company has cleaned up its act but it is doing business as usual stealing money from innocent victims
I too have just found that these people have been taking £10 a month since August 2011. More fool me for not noticing, but I can only think they got my card details from trainline.com. It is one of the few places I shop on line. I have cancelled 'membership' written a couple of clear e-mails telling them I shall be settling for nothing less than full refund. Like so many others, I have never used any of their services. Why are they still operating?
I have just found out that shopper disc have been taking £10 per month out of my account
so i have stopped it through my bank and also been it touch and threatened with every thing and they have promised to refund my money back in the next 10 days
i will keep you informed how i go on
Well, well well! Look what I have received today. It would seem that despite the very questionable marketing tactics, this company are making good the deceit:-

this has also happened to me, I reserved something from Argos and I had an email to clarify my reservation, and there was a voucher on it for £15 cash back and I clicked on it, and from there they have been taking money out of my account without my permission and without me knowing i rung them and told them, they were very rude to me, and sed it was obvious on the website which it isnt, ring your bank and tell them to stop any money coming out going to this shopperdisc.co.uk. i am wanting a refund this is unfair and i will take it further if i dont not get refunded.
Hi - I too fell victim this scam via Inteflora (although many other sites do this too). What happens is when you complete the purchase you get an offer of £15 off your next purchase, you complete the simple form and then bang they've got you - all in the small print.
However - FEAR NOT - this is simple to get all your money back.
Compose yourself, read the advice below, practice it and then do the following :-
Call them on [protected] (its free to call) and be polite but forceful. Tell them they have taken money illegally out of your account and you never subscribed to this service. Say "here's whats going to happen - you are going to refund all of my contributions by the end of today otherwise my solicitor will be writing to you first thing tomorrow morning". Don't let them speak or interrupt too much and try and derail you.
They will start by offering you 1 month's refund and then say you'll have to complete a claim form - again be direct and say "I didn't fill in any forms for you to steal my money so I'm not going to fill in any to get it back - if you can't refund my full amount please put me through to a supervisor who can".
I was put on hold for about 30 seconds and then the same operator said they could refund it all. 2 days later the money was put back into my account (and I had 18 months at £10 per month) - the whole £180 refunded straight away.
As I said - the key is to be confident, forceful but polite (don't swear or lose your temper).
Good luck - and I really hope this helps.
Remember - you're not to blame - I've got a university degree, work in the IT industry and use the internet every day and yet still fell foul of it.
taking £10 out of my account without permission.
I Have just phoned them and they refunding my money no complaints from them
