stamps.com will continue to charge your credit card even if you get a new number. I tried to cancel on line, and on the phone. The first phone cancellation they said they didn't do because they had to call me back and confirm. it's nearly impossible to cancel and refunds are never given for misprinted stamps.
BEWARE of Stamps.com!
I just received a CD from Stamps.com stating "Valuable $100 offer inside" and touting the program as "Your Desktop Post Office".
So, I poped the CD into my computer and my Anti Virus program started alarming that a known trojan virus had just been installed on my computer, (just from loading the CD). Eevn though I did not run or install the program. Luckily, My anti virus quaranteened the culprit and I was able to remove the thief without serious damage or loss of data. Needless to say, I did not install or run the program on the Stamps.com CD, and highly recommmend that no one does so.
That experience lead me to look further into Stamps.com and to find this web page. Looks like this scam is deeper that just billing problems, they want to steal your information as well.
Does anyone out there have an address (not e-mai) for Stamp.com. I have submitted the phone calls, several times over and still get charged each month. They promise to stop the charges and haven't. I did get a credit for two months, but then they started charging me again. HOW TO GET THEM TO STOP?
The real problem is - I WAS NEVER ABLE TO DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM. It didn't work on my computer and I called and talked to a very nice young man that didn't understand what I was talking about (very thick accent). Finally, after I hung up on him a nice woman called me and informed me that because I signed up for the service, it didn't matter that I never got it, I still had to pay the initial charge. You can't cancel online and I guess you can't cancel on the phone either. I hang on the line for 10 - 15 minutes each time with never anyone coming online.
When I started with stamps.com, I thought, "This is great. No standing in line. They give you a 'free' scales and some other freebies. What could be bad about that?" It took me from July of 2009 till this month to notice that I was paying $17.99 a month for the privilege of being a member of stamps.com (whether I used the service or not). When I saw stamps.com on my billing, I thought it was legit: after all, they charge my card for stamps. They claim I authorized this, but I'm fighting it because I don't remember anything of the kind (unless it was one of those 5-paged agreements that no one reads. What a bunch of losers. I'm posting this wherever I can find a place to post it. Almost $200 to use stamps.com? My God!
I made the same mistake. Their web site design is misleading as well -- I bet many information overloaded web folks will think its USPS's site. I assumed monthly charges were either stamp purchases or credits. Could not believe it when they insisted on billing for the one-month "risk-free" period. By default, they don't send monthly email receipts detailing the monthly charges. They consistently cited minor legalistic technical details as they refused to refund these fees. I didn't even use their service! I can't believe they can stay in business.
Stamps.com is the biggest ripoff I have ever experienced. My experience began when I received a card that I mistakenly thought was from the Post Office. It said in effect that post offices were closing and what could we do when there was no post office we could get to. Then the offer of "convenient" mail service. I never realized that it is a "subscription" that one pays and pays and pays for whether you are using their "service" or not. So we are paying for a "subscription" that we were never able to use. I actually hooked the scale up, installed the software, and couldn't get a response from the scale.
That is the excuse when you call them, we are not the post office, we are a licensed service provider. I hope to find a place to contact the Post Office about this licensed service provider.
I got an offer for free trail and was billed for one month and never received no products. I canceled with them in February and I also never got a chance to experience the service. I was told that it was canceled and now August they mailing me a bill for 63.96. This company is a SCAM and we all should seek help to report them. I too thought they were a part of the POST OFFICE that's why I tested out the free trial software for one day when I realize that they never sent me any products to test out the stamps. I am seeking Legal Actions against this company.
I filled out an online survey last year and just noticed that I am being charged each month for using a service that i have NEVER used. It took 15 minutes to get a person, then I asked to speak to a manager. I was told they can only give me the last two months payment back. I am discouraged by these other statements... How can I prevent from getting re-charged?
AGREE - STAMPS.COM IS A SCAM! I filled out an online survey last year and noticed that I am being charged a monthly fee of $17.95 for a service that I have NEVER USED. It took 15 minutes to get a rep on the phone. I asked to speak to a manager who promised to cancel the account and refund 2 months, but I am not reassured after reading these comments!
I work from home and thought this would be a great service. As it turned out I rarely used the service because the supplies are not available in the post office. They must be ordered online with shipping charges. You would think USPS could offer free delivery for their own products. I finally got around to calling to cancel and got talked into staying. She told me how I could print directly 0nto envelopes and use up the postage in my account, as well as additional postage I'd earned for being a customer for so long. That sounded like a way to recoup at least some of my money. However, when I printed the envelopes, some of my postage didn't print. Then I noticed the money in my account was being reduced by the amount I TRIED to print. Each attempt cost me several dollars. I went through their refund process and was denied a refund because I didn't return the PRINTED stamps. Calling stamps.com is a waste of time as they are NOT the US Postal Service and cannot refund money you were charged in error for postage. The only option is to try to fight the government over stamps, which would take more time than I plan to commit to correcting my failure to recognize a ripooff when I see one. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS SCAM!
I signed up 2/5/2011 because they offered one month of free service to try it out. On 3/3 I was billed $15.99 which I assumed was for service from 3/3 - 4/2 since my first month was supposed to be free, and then I was charged $15.99 again on 4/3 which I assumed was for service from 4/3 - 5/2. On 5/2 I called to cancel my service as I did not think I used it enough to make it worth the service fee. I was informed that I would be charged another $15.99 to pay for service from 4/3 - 5/2 because they bill in arrears. So if that is the case, then the fee charged on 4/3 was to cover 3/3 - 4/2, and the fee charged on 3/3 was to pay for service from 2/5 - 3/2. So where was the free month?
BEWARE OF STAMPS.COM!
I signed up in January only for realizing that I did not need it as much as i thought. Infact I just used their service ONCE. So I cancelled the account when one-month free trial period was over. Now i May, (stupid me for not always checking my bill thouroughly) I found out that they still charge me every month! So i have been paying 4 months for nothing.
I called them again basically saying what the hell? I already closed my account 3 months ago but how they still charge me? The guy over the phone said that they did not close my account at that time, hoping i would change my mind after using it again for a while. WTF? I did not call them to close my account at the first place just to imply that I may change my mind after this call. They cannot refund my money. He still tried to convinced me to keep it no matter how determined I was. After talking to his supervisor, what he could do is to waive my service fee for this month (while still trying to persuade me to try again until July before they will close my account). JUST AVOID STAMPS.COM!
I too foolishly signed up for a free trial- think it was offered as a "reward" through my charge card's reward points. I never once used one aspect of the service, got no email reminders or mail. 3 months later, I called to cancel (hoping for a refund of UNUSED service), and was given extremely hard sell to not cancel and try to renew. I simply couldn't end this guys' pressure! No means no right? Anyway, I am FURIOUS to see yet another charge on this month's bill. Disgusted I have to call back again
Stamps.com is manipulative and shady. They are not forthcoming with the details of their system mechanics, leading those of us that use the service to fiend for ourselves. Let's continue to send complaints to the FTC and post on any site we can "buyer beware". They try to make it difficult to cancel, just remember "No, No, No" Ask their rep what part of "NO" don't you understand the "N" or the "O". This is the type company that gives businesses a bad name!
Did not make it clear that there was a monthly charge. When I got my first bill after using 1 time it was for $47 and I only bought 2 or 3 dollars in postage. When I called to complain that I had not received any bills till I had 3 service charges racked up I was told that there was nothing that could be done and I had to pay In addition I never recieved the free scale I was supposed to recieve. I immediately closed my account.
