Stamps.com is a Huge Scam. I have filed complaints with the FTC and the USPS and I suggest everyone do the same. It is very simple, simply visit the website of either the USPS or the FTC and do a search for "fraud" or "complaint" and their form will appear. Fill it out and send it off. Here is the text of the complaints I filed with each organization:

"Product Name: Netstamps) Stamps.com was authorized to make monthly subscription fee debits, and purchases of postage from my checking account. On 9/14/06 I requested a purchase of $100 for postage and stamps.com withdrew the funds from my account. The bank has verified that the funds were paid to stamps.com, and this written verification was provided to stamps.com. Nevertheless, this purchase is still listed as "pending" on the my stamps.com account page, and the company refuses to call me or give any explanation or refund. I have provided all information that they requested, including a letter from my bank. Now they state that a credit has been posted to my account yet I have received no credit, none appears on my account and stamps.com refuses to provide any proof of such credit. They claim their software doesn't "allow for auditing of individual credits granted", whatever that means. I have tried to cancel my account and they will not allow it to be done on-line because of "security issues", despite the fact that the account was OPENED on-line, When I call to cancel my account, I am left on hold for more than 1 hour and have given up. I am left with no choice but to pay fees to my credit card company and my bank in order to block any future withdrawals of the money subscription fee which they will not allow me to cancel. These fees are approximately $75.00 They have now stolen almost $200 and about 10 hours of my life. I feel if the USPS is going to allow stamps.com to provide USPS approved postage, then stamps.com should adhere to fair and ethical business practices, same as those practiced by the USPS itself."

Feel free to contact me at [protected]@firstfloorfront.com I have made closing down stamps.com my mission (at least until someone else rips me off!).

I signed up for their free 4 week trial on 10/24/2006. I called to cancel my account yesterday (10/25/2006). The rude man said that my credit card would not be charged the $15.99 fee. I check my account today and there is a charge from Stamps.com in the amount of $15.99. I tried to call the same
number that I called yesterday [protected] and it was disconnected. Yesterday I waited on hold for about 45 minutes. Their customer service is absolutly unacceptable.

I had a similar experience with stamps.com failing to cancel the account (December 2006) when I directed them to do so. They sent me a bill for $7 and said they would not refund the postage balance of $30 unless I paid. Furthermore, they threatened to send the account to collections. I'm going to look into what the Postmaster General has to say about the postage balance accounts as the money does not belong to stamps.com.

I singed up for the free trial and was unable to get my printer to print the postage even after the test printing was ok. I called to cancel and was re routed to the tech dept afte the first person i talked to would not except that I just wanted to close my account. The tech person could not help after about an hour and I said that I just want to close this account. he then sent me back to customer service where I was kept on the phone for another 45 min and The rep said that I woulod get the initial $5 back into my stamps.com account and to try to just print the stamps on paper or to order the self adhesive stamp pages. I gave up on canceling and thought well if they refund the $5 I wasted trying to print postage that didnt work I would print my $5 worth on paper and than cancel after all the hastle I went through. My account was never refunded and I callled back to cancel cause I was just fed up and really the service charge was way to much for the little use I would get out of this service. After NUMEROUS times of stating I wanted to close and a half hr long obveously scripted spouting they finally closed my account. This is just rediculouse I have never had such an issue with a company NO means NO! If you sign up and want to cancel be prepared to fight!

I too have been duped by stamps.com. I received a physical mailing/advertisment for their services, I created an account and was never presented with information stating that this was a "free trial", at least not to the point where it was CLEARLY presented during the sign up process that this was a free trial and you're card will be charged after the trial period ends. While there is a thin line between a company committing fraud and a customer's due diligence to know whether or not they are being charged, one thing is for sure... This company is misrepresenting its service by burying in their terms of service, the fact that you WILL BE CHARGED unless you specifically contact the company to have your account closed before your trial period ends. This "practice" has been around forever, they hope you don't realize this fact and once you finally realize it, it's often too late and you are stuck with a charge of some sort. For me, it was for 1 month's service at $17.99 and for others it may be much more than this. Another red-flag with this company, there is no ability to cancel your account via their Web site, forcing you to call between the hours of 6am - 6pm PST (weekdays only) and wait on hold where you are eventually routed to an out-sourced call center. Ridiculous! There is no reason at all a company should NOT have the option to immediately cancel an account via their Web page, especially considering that you can create an account and be billed by it! This screams "scam" to me. Despite my account being canceled now, I will closely watch my bank account and whether I receive further communications from this company. This will determine whether I contact the FTC and my state attorney general's office.

I have the same problem. I do not have a telephone. I do everything on the web. I was unaware that I could not cancel my account via the web. I emailed every where I could think of. They told me I could not cancel through the web FOR SECURITY PURPOSES. I do NOT have a phone. My account balance is now $233.35. They KNOW all of this and continue to try to charge my bank account every month. I now have a zero balance in my account but they continue to charge me. I don't know what to do.

I don't know how this company has gotten away with cheating people for so many years. Their business practices are basically just plain robbery. You can go to the complain site on the Better Business Bureau and see that they're still up to the same old tricks right now in 2019. and they are aggressively advertising on my favorite radio station - that's what's inspired me to come back and make a statement here. I myself have experienced their cheating ways and lost quite a bit of money to them.

I do not use this service at all and they have been charging me 17.99. Their customer service refuses to refund the money. They say you have to pay it whether you use their service or not.

I cancelled the account nearly two years ago. They have taken nearly $400 of my money and won't return it!

I was not aware of the service charge for about a year [censored] I thought I was just purchasing postage. I cancelled the acct and I had to cancel the credit card. They are still trying to charge my credit card but they do not have the number.

I set up a stamps.com account around 6/30/24 to test it out and print one stamp to create a return label for a customer for my eBay store. I was trying to avoid going to the post office that day to do it and hopefully make a relationship with stamps.com for future use. I left my home to work with my other company that transports animals nationwide. I noticed some small transactions over July come out of my bank to stamps.com and thought nothing of it thinking was monthly or maintenance fees. Between August 1st or 2nd I sent an email to stamps.com support to cancel the account and refund charges I did not notice the account balance on the site was more than the $10 initial investment. Later in the day I saw another charge for $100 and emailed back stating I told you to cancel the account when they responded they were working on a refund earlier. On the afternoon of August 2nd I saw an email from stamps.com thanking me for a payment of $8,888 then a balance alert from my bank. I contacted stamps.com and reached the security team and they said that someone must keep trying my password a bunch of times till they got into my account. I asked if they had any account security measures in place and they said no. No 2 factor, no account lockout for multiple password attempts. This has caused a great deal of stress on me fearing that due to Stamps.com negligence has compromised my personal and financial information. I had to sale/return business and personal assets to get funds to operate. My bank has started a claim but can take 10 days to resolve and send new bank cards. The security person with stamps.com said they are unable to do a return and file a claim with the bank on Aug. 2nd. After multiple emails, stamps.com called me on Aug. 7 suddenly saying they could do the return on the card on file after I already closed the cards, but were not closed when making the original return request. I said then overnight a check. They would not and say now I file a claim with the bank will not be able to do the return. I feel that others can be affected by this if someone was able to get into my account a few weeks after creation. My password was 8 characters long with uppercase, lowercase, number, and symbol.

Aug 7th Grant at Wells Fargo Small Business Resolution team said they spoke with stamps.com and said could possibly been an inside job. The investigation can take many weeks.
