lack of service
took my daughter and four grandkids out to lunch . waited in front area for fifteen min. waiting on a table. sat in a booth for another fifteen min. and was not even ask for a drink order. I spoke to the manager and he rudely said" we will get to you when we can." we left and went to another restaurant across the parking lot and noticed customers there that had left the steak and shake for the same reasons. very bad experience and a total lack of professionalism on the managers part. I also wouldn't brag on the servers either. we spent 31.00 dollars at a restaurant when we had intended to spend it at the steak and shake.

Sad to say, I had a subpar experience today at approximately 530pm in the drive-thru.
I ordered: one double steak burger - mustard only, baked beans, child sized Diet Coke, regular size chocolate shake. This was $12.xx. I knew right away this was too costly.
I paid. I got the very small Diet Coke. I received a very large bag that was heavier than it should have been. The bag contained the burger, an order of fries, the baked beans, a cup of chili. I had to wait and wait on the chocolate shake since no one made it. I told the attendant I did not order chili or fries. I handed her the bag. She said she removed the chili then returned the bag. A manager had to be summoned to refund the cost of the chili.
I drove into an empty parking spot to eat the meal. The chili was in the bag not the baked beans. I had to drive closer, park, go into the building to tell them I still did not have the baked beans. By now minutes had passed so I asked them to remake the burger which was cooling off. They did. I waited inside. The manager came back with baked beans and a burger. I know better. I unwrapped the burger to be sure there was mustard. There was zero mustard. Manager took the burger back. Came back in a few seconds. Back outside to eat the food. The baked beans were cold. Cold. I was there last week and those baked beans were also cold. The burger was shameful. The burger was saturated with mustard. I guess they showed me. I mean covered once the top bun was lifted. Even before I finished unwrapping the burger I could see much mustard on the wrapper. There was so much mustard that it looked like two large pieces of melted cheddar cheese. Back into the restaurant. Same manager (middle-aged white bald man). I told him the baked beans were cold and the mustard was probably three tablespoons. I wanted a refund which I got. I think one of the vice-presidents needs to leave the lovely offices on Pennsylvania Street and take an all day or two-day look at this location. Really. The experience was that bad.
I have lived in eight states. I lived twice in Indianapolis, twice in St. Louis, MO suburbs, Normal, IL where I attended college. I have been enjoying Steak ‘n Shake for many years. I travel a fair amount around the US and often stop at them on the road. Today's experience was shameful. Every complaint is more money in the trash and less in your bonus.

iam complaining about hand soap in the ladies restroom.
My family and i were waiting to be seated on 8/11/18. My mother and i wanted to wash our hands before being seated. We got in restroom and got our hands wet with water and push for soap well no soap. We walked out and i told the busser that seated us theres no hand soap in the restroom he said ok i will get it. We ordered so i told the waitress the same thing she said ok ill get it still no one made the attempt to do so. Time went by so i walked up to the register and the lady up there was a manager told her the same thing she says ok i will get someone to do it. So our food arrived we ate then i went to bathroom to check no soap. Yes i was mad. And why i watched 3 of there waitress go in the restroom and knowing there is no soap and also watched them serve drinks and food to paying customers with dirty hands. Come on its unsanitary and disgusting that i had to watch all of this and i was being a loyal paying customer to tell them about the soap. I was in the restaurant for 45 mins and it takes 2 mins to put soap in. By the time i left i was very unhappy so i asked to talk to the manager and guess what it was the same lady at the register. So i told her how i felt and all she could say was i told 2 people to do it. Really you the manager could have done it. The one thing that bothered me the most is i watched 3 employees woman go in the restroom knowing there was no soap and watched them serve customers drinks and food with dirty hands. I was so angry at this situation that when I left my cell phone at the table I slapped my mother across the face because she did not remind me to take it. She told me it was my responsibility to take my stuff with me. I told her to shut up then I slapped her again. She won't talk to me now.

8/11/18 My husband and I came in for dinner as we frequently do. We were greeted by our waitress at the table and she was very monatone as if she didn't want to be there. We ordered: my husband ordered a double stake burger and chili cheese fries with a coke. I ordered a single stake burger fries and a chocolate covered strawberry "malt", extra extra thick. Our food came and we were half done eating before the malt came. I had asked about it and was told "he's making it now". When I got the "malt" it looked more like a chocolate shake with a few pieces of strawberry in it. Not the usual chocolate covered strawberry and it was NOT thick at all. I asked the waitress again if this was right, because it didn't look right. She said "he said it was a chocolate covered strawberry" "it's probably the malt mix that made it look like that. All the others I've had before didn't look this way. Well to go on, the burgers were so thin that you could see daylight through them. There was more bun and toppings than burger. This we have been noticing for some time now. You could have smeared the bun with the burger grease and gotten the same effect. We were very disappointed even though the "malt" was taken off the bill.

We had supper at the Steak and Shake in Grove City, Ohio. We waited over an hour for our food. We were told by the waitress that it was happy hour and milkshakes were half off, to later learn there is no happy hour on weekends. By the time the milkshakes arrived they were melted, even the whipped cream was runny. When the food did arrive the fries were cold and hard, and the hamburgers were way overseasoned. My husband never received his coke refill .
We did explain what happened when we paid, and was ignored. We had a 43.00 bill, and was not satisfied at all. Worst experience ever. Should have went next door to Dairy Queen. Better food and cheaper.
wait time and rude wait staff
My friend and I went to the Gurnee Steak ‘n Shake drive-through around 8:30pm. Pulled up behind a car that was already at the box and waited there for about 20 minutes. The car in front of us didn't seem to be making any noise, but began arguing with the box for about five minutes. Finally they pulled forward and we went up to the box to order. As we pull up no one says anything and eventually, after about 10 minutes, the person behind us asks what's going on. My friend calls back to him that no one has taken our order and no one has said anything yet to us. Then the box turns on for the first time and says, "Actually, I said ‘Hi welcome to Steak ‘n Shake' and asked you to please wait a moment." Not only was this said in a rude manner, but she had never said anything in the first place. After about 10 more minutes, another person finally asked what we would like to order. We order two shakes, a Butterfinger and an Oreo. As we pull forward, the car that was there before us was still sitting at the window. After a few more minutes, they received their order, and we finally pulled forward to see that there was no one at the window. I began to time on my phone how long this took. Eventually, a woman opens the doors and asks for nine dollars and hands us some spoons and straws. We give her the money and she goes back into the restaurant. Not only did we never receive a ‘sorry for the wait' or a discount on any of our shakes, but we then waited about eight minutes and watched the employees cleaning up the floors and messing around with each other. Finally, the woman came back and tried to charge us for another order. We said that we still hadn't gotten order and after she tried to give us more spoons and straws, she left to check on order. A few more minutes passed and she came back with our shakes. She handed them to us along with more spoons and straws, and said goodbye. We asked for a receipt, just so that we could prove that we actually paid the full price after waiting for over 45 minutes. We did not receive any sorry or a discount on our order. After waiting for this long, I felt that they must have been understaffed or very busy. However, I did not see many people inside of the restaurant and saw more than enough employees to cover a shift. Not only that, but our shakes tasted nothing like Butterfinger or Oreo. Both of the shakes taste exactly the same and tasted like vanilla with a little bit of candy sprinkled on top. The workers were rude and inefficient at getting us our orders. Normally, steak and shake is fine in terms of getting me my order relatively quickly. I never spend more than five minutes in the drive-through, and even though many other people have had mediocre experiences with them, I have never had such a bad experience at a fast food restaurant, Steak ‘n Shake included, and will not be returning for a very long time.

I ordered two double cheese burgers and a chicken salad and this is what I expierenced my food was made very sloppy and i couldn't eat it. I really like steak and shake buy this is bad customer service and something needs to be done. Who would want to eat this food no me so why serve it. This is not good customer service at all and I'm very upset.
I had a bad experience with my food when I went through drive thru. The food they served me wasn't good. It was cold and the presentation sucked. I was very upset because why would you serve your customers food that you wouldn't serve or feed to your own family. They need to be trained more and pay attention to what they are doing and stop being lazy
uncooked food
As of May 1 2018 I filed a complaint and all I been getting is the run-around from your adjuster. I cannot believe a large corporate handel's business this way, Corporate doesn't EVEN reach out to apologize for the incident.
I am reaching out to you and I am also going to reach out to BBB with pictures, phone log and emails in correspondence to this issue.
I will be contacting a lawyer for my rights to this matter.

unit 576 in South Bend IN order # was 522259 on 08/07/2018 for one $5.13 sandwich- i pulled up to the driver thru speaker & waited 7 minutes to place my order. i was told 3 times to wait. once i got to the window (no one at the window once i ordered) i waited another 4 minutes while employees were leaving for the day to talk (me being at the window did not take priority) for the female employee with 2 inch long brightly painted gross fingernails to take my money. another few minutes for my sandwich to be delivered- overall this restaurant was gross & lacked the will to be called a restaurant- I will not be going back

Monday, August 5 during breakfast hours. Waitress was poorly trained and did not enter order correctly. Order was received and food was good and received very quickly. Waitress did not come back to refill coffee. At check out, we stood at the counter several minutes before the waitress was able to check us out. There were three employees standing complaining about how tired they were and complaining about other employees. I have heard on other sites about this particular location regarding the food quality (mine was good though), and extremely poor service as well as the cooks chit chatting, managers yelling at employees, etc.
I would hate to see this location close as the prices are reasonable.
filthy bathrooms and dining area
I was just at the Steak n Shake on 5960 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43213. the bathroom was filthy with no toilet paper, broken soap dispensers, dirt and footprints on the walls and no paper towels. The ketchup on most table were empty, our salt shaker was rusted shut and had soda and dirt in the salt so it was clumped. The floor was so sticky and needs a better cleaner. We asked for napkins and never got them. It felt like trucker rest area. Honestly the only reason we stayed was because our server was so nice.

My family and I (8) total plus I'm pregnant went to Steak ‘n Shake at. 2905 stone crest circle Atlanta GA. We literally waited over an hour for our order and still never received anything. The manager has a very very bad attitude and when another customer asked for her she said she didn't care. It took 15 minutes for our drinks. Service is horrible

We had just got here from colorado to visit my family the kids were hungry and we wanted to take them somewhere where we know well get good food and good service. So I took them steak ‘n shake we walked in and right away my wife said look at that floors they are uncleared I said maybe they were busy. Anyways there was 8 people the server came by and said are you guys ready to order I looked at my wife and said guys. No big deal. The server had a very mad look on his face 0 customer service. The food came out and the fries were very cold so we asked the server to get as some hot 🍟 he got as more fries and took my fries off the table. After a minute or 2 I told the server that I need some fries too since o ordered 2 meals and his reply was I think you have enough fries? After I hard that I got mad 😡 so he walked away I called for a manager she came by the table I nicely atold her what just happened and all she had to is i'll take off your fries the bill I looked at her and said I am still hungry and she just stood there didn't know what to do.
I can hear 👂 the server and the manager talking about as. This was not a good experience at all and I hope 🤞 that some one steps it up and fix these problems because I will never ever again take my family to this location again. That is 😢 #364 server is jayson.
double pay
I went to the Steak and Shake on Elmore in Davenport, IA after the Mississippi Valley Fair on August 4. I paid for our tables ticket, $32. After we left and were waiting for our friends to get out of the bathroom, the security came out and told us we didn't pay. We had to pay twice. I'm very upset about the whole experience and I feel bad that people do dine and dash but we did not!

Drove an hour to get here on the way home from work I ordered a meal which I had a coupon for requested condiments on my double cheeseburger the gentleman in the window asked me what my condiments or that I would like on my burger, I said lettuce tomato pickle and mustard I received lettuce ketchup very little mustard no tomato I repeat no tomato, also I got a chocolate milkshake which came with the coupon which was only halfway filled in the Styrofoam cup the rest was all whip cream then talking about my salad I had to go back around asking request what all comes in a solid that was my side with my coupon and my other side where the french fries which were nearly warm in the salad there was a lettuce a few shriveled up pieces of purple cabbage and a shred of cheese very little cheese I may be a few little carrots so I came back to the window and told him OK I got I asked I requested for more cheese than I said I got no tomatoes on my salad he stated we're out of tomatoes but I guess if you really want them I can chop some up and put it in your salad so then I want around again he gave me a little plastic container of cheese and croutons which they didn't give me the first time around and also he took a piece of tomato and cut it up into three pieces and just threw it on top of my salad furthermore I didn't appreciate everybody outside smoking while I'm ordering my food and then they all go back inside I see not one person wash their hands I can see through the window that they got on the line that even washing their hands after smoking i'm professional staff and very filthy dirty atmosphere it's a shame my meal only cost 599 which included french fries and a burger and a salad as my side and a milkshake at all for items that I got were wrong and not even made correctly and that I had to go around and request the items that should've came in my bag and all my sandwich and he put catchup on it and I didn't request catch up I don't know what's so hard about making a simple mills that you serve.

I visited the steak and shake in Tampa on Fowler ave.It wasn't that busy and food came pretty quick.
My first Berger was mushroom swiss.l took one bite and it was terrible, l think the mushrooms were bad left awful taste in my mouth.Sent it back, my friend ordered a single Berger and when she got here's it was fried so crisp that the ends were crunchy and it was so thin you could hardly tell it was even there.Somy question is why do you show these juice thick Berger 2 for 3 when it's a false advertisements

Bench seats had crumbs in the seams. Looked like build up of weeks. Gap in back of bench seat had trash, food and food collected in it.
Ladies restroom was beyond dirty. Manager was receptive to hearing this info. Mentioned this was night shift not cleaning properly. However, this accumulation is more than on shift. Appears store needs a general manager to make spot checks on this location. Having a clean facility should be a priority.

My family and I visited Steak n Shake in Lebanon, IN August 2nd around 8pm and it was fairly busy but not too bad! However, this not what I am complaining about! My family and I were very patient and waited almost 45 min to receive our food! My husband and I both ordered the new Texas BBQ prime steakburger! You would think after 45 min we would've received sandwiches that were fully cooked! My sandwich was completely raw in the middle! My husband, however, was able to enjoy the same steakburger fully cooked! The waiter asked if I would like another sandwich or just remove it from our bill! I kindly said I would rather you just take it off! In all honesty I didn't want to potentially have to wait another 45 min just for a sandwich! I am not one to usually complain but this was a little ridiculous! I don't even know if the waiter told the manager that the burger wasn't cooked!

I called in an order at S n S in Trinity, FL; order #101278. The date was 8/2/2018 after 2 PM. It was very busy inside and out, so I picked my order up at the register. No one addressed me for several minutes, then a new young lady (Jodie?) acknowledged I was there and came behind the counter to help me. It was her 1st day and she was following another waitress for training. My order was not ready and when it was I asked to make sure the fries were hot, so I could eat them on the way to work. I was assured they were, but they were only warm, so I had to wait for fresh ones. The card reader would not read my gift card number, so the cashier had to read the number to me, so I could enter it myself. Rather strange. While waiting, another customer came up to get his order he put in on the S n S app. It was not there, so he had to wait until they put it in and fixed his order. Once I received my order and returned to my vehicle, I realized I had not gotten my milkshake I ordered, so I returned the counter. I placed the order again and reminded the lady it was without any cherries. My shake came with 3 cherries. I know she was trying to make up for the mistake, so I just asked her to remove them, which she did, but left a big hole scooped out of the whip cream. My thoughts were she should of replaced the whip cream, if not, but to make the product more presentable. By the time I did make it back to my vehicle, my fries were cold. I had to laugh. Everyone was trying so hard to make things right, especially the trainee, so I decided I was not going to file a complaint, until I sat down to eat my chicken taco salad and it was beef. I've only been in FL for 2 yrs and this is the 1st time I've had a problem, except for the lukewarm fries. Actually in Indianapolis, I used to train waitresses for the dining room at S n S and worked for many years at 3 different ones. Don't be too hard on the staff there, but these things should not happen, especially so many of them. Thank you for your time.

On 7/27/18 at 12am my party and I entered the restaurant on Pine Island Rd Cape Coral FL. After many stares, glares and being completely ignored by all staff including the manager, we left at 12:23am. We did not receive one word from any staff members and when eye contact was made it was quickly diverted from employee's . The manager was on grill, her name was Courtney and she too looked at us with total disregard. Upon leaving the restaurant the manager Courtney and a black male were outside arguing due to the black male being caught smoking marijuana. Both the manager and the black male argued loudly and basically cursed each other out.
