On September 18, 2008 I was scammed paying $42 for 12 issues of Elle magazine. That day was just as normal as any other day except for when I heard a knock at the door. I looked out the window to see who it was and saw a young man, he looked like he was about 23 or so.
I let him in because I thought he was one of my fiancee's friends or something. He started giving a speech about magazines and such. I had heard the same speech just 2 days before by a girl with short blonde hair, and she looked to be the same age as the boy. She had a bunch of scratches and bruises on her face. Almost like she had been in a car crash.
Well anyways this guy introduced himself as Ronnie Hogan, and said that he goes to Arkansas Tech which is a college in Arkansas. He said he would get points for every magazine subscription he sold, and that the points were going towards a trip to cancun or something.
He said he was studying business management in college. Then immediately after his entire speech he asked me and my fiancee if we knew where to get some marijuana. Of course we said no and he just went on about how he has been looking for some and that he really wants to get high.
I don't even know why I still payed him for magazines after that. I just wanted the magazine and didn't even think about the fact that he was scamming me. I couldn't find my checkbook when I went to pay him so I gave him 42 dollars cash.
Everyone keep in mind that when someone comes up to your door like that just don't answer it. All of their papers look legit cause they are laminated and they have receipts that they fill out, and you can choose if you want it to be sent as a gift or not. The people will act like they are your best friend but they are just wanting your money so they can go party or something.
And one more thing..never think that it can't happen to you, that's what I thought. Just always be aware.

Was scammed myself. I believe alot of the kids use the same names every time. Check out the website under: "Success Stories" Then you'll see some of their names. After researching online, I read several people (all over the US) who had Josh Gibson come to their door..LOL! ###! Tenesia Pilot was the one who came to my house. My own fault though...I just let her in like I was a hypnotized idiot...I was incredibly busy and though she was one of the neighbor kids. I just bought it cause I wanted her out. Forgetting that I'm completely broke, so the check bounced and even worse...3 months later...no Magazines to speak of.

I read that this is how to get your money back..It supposedly worked for some people.

Do not buy anything from these people. I fell for the same thing and luckily came in to check them out before the guy (named Josh) and girl left my street. I caught back up with them and demanded my check back and "Josh" became hostile and said I was under a legal contract. So I called the number while he was standing there and they made him give me the check back. Beware of these fools!
Same situation happened to me. It was a girl in her 20's stating that this company offers incentive for them, and she needs the money for books. I figured I was planning of buying this subscription anyways, so why not let this girl get some sales credit for it. By the way, it was a X-Mas present for my husband!
Well, I started checking on the order after the 90 day period. Both time they confirmed my information and asked me to wait for the full 120 days. Today has been 150 days, and the rep just told me that they no longer carry this magazine (Men's Health) and to send in my receipt for a refund. The refund is suppose to take 4 weeks! That's if I get one :(
I am not one to purchase from solicitation. This girl just happen to catch me during the holiday sprite. I guess always keep your guards up. Don't give your $$$ to just anyone. There are plenty of legitimate charitable organizations if one should feel generous!
I also was scammed. This very charming young guy by the name of Chris Corrito came to my door and I feel for his story. The magazine I purchesed was Dog World for $44.00 on 4/16/09. I received a postcard from the company on 6/29/09 stating I had to wait 120 days for the order. Today is 8/10/09 and nothing.
I emailed another complaint to this company today asking for my money back - I am contacting the Better Business Bureau tomorrow and I am going to my local Village Hall asking if there is something that our town can do to stop these phony people from coming to our front doors. My email to the company asked for my money back - but I know for a fact the only way I will get it back is by going to the Better Business Bureau and putting in my complaint.
I was also scammed! A younger couple that said they were in high school, wearing varsity jackets even...came to my door to sell magazines in order to raise money to go on this trip to the behamas. I called some friends & neighbors to come over and helped get them a couple houndred dollars in orders and none of the orders ever arrived. They were offering a discount for those of us that could pay cash... so we did. Months later I called the company because the magazines never arrived. I thought that even with a legit receipt with the company would help me get the money back if it did turn out to be a scam, over a month ago I faxed a copy to the company and they said it would be 7-10 business days I would recieve a refund. I have called and the lady was rude and even hung up on me. The name of the guy was "Adam Lastinger" and wasnt listed in high school. I spent $72 Dollars with the company. I called about my refund spoke with BARBRA and she was very rude and told me to get an atterney involved if I want my money back- IM OUTRAGED!
they were seven of there sales people? or should i say thefs tryed to brake into our homes they were two of them went to jail for that the others fled . i called the home office at954-341-8135 and said tuff luck call an atterney they got away with it befor and well keep getting away with .
there a bunch of thieves dont even let them in your house? southern style...
Sunshine Subscription Agency almost got me, they were able to get into my apartment, which was impressive, I never let people in that I don't know. It was two girls that said they were going to college in the small town I live in and were earning money for books. I had noticed they each had some form of ID badge on their belt loop, but both were conveniently turned towards them so I couldn't tell what they were for. They said if they sold enough magazines they got to to go on a shopping spree at Wal-Mart in the Bahamas. One of the girls even mentioned she wanted to be a veterinarian. What I noticed was that she said veterinarian incorrectly, and that the other girl called her Amanda on the way out, and didn't notice that it was weird until I looked at the receipt they left me, and she wrote her name as Kelly B. So I went to the internet and found hundreds of similar complaints. The BBB even gives them an "F" rating. I cancelled my check at the bank, and luckily they understood and wasn't charged for stop payment. I called the police to notify them of potential scams, they said if I saw anything I should let them know, just being in my apartment was illegal being they needed a license to solicite in a private residence. They mentioned that often times they travel in large groups and canvas a town for a few days until they get booted, and just go on to the next road. I also checked with Wal-Mart, just to see how much they lied, and there is no Wal-Mart in the Bahama's as far as Wal-Mart is concerned. I was lucky I gave them a check, they kept telling me they get more points if they get cash, and even offered to ride with to an ATM. You may also want to watch your residence for a couple days after that, when they managed to get in, one noticed my small gemstone collection and started to touch them, and out of reaction I told them to not touch them, they are expensive, and when the other came out of the bathroom (that was their "in") the other girl mentioned to her that I have expensive gemstones. I thought at first it was a, this is cool, but then realized my residence may have been "marked." They were very nice, and never hostile like some above reports. They acted even a little childish to get my guard down and to make them seem vulnerable. Very clever group of con-artists. Be careful. Double check their stories if your hesistant, or better yet, don't let anyone sell you stuff. Better be safe than sorry!
they got me too. two girls claiming to be in high school said they were getting points to win a trip. originally they told me to pick 5 magazines I liked. I pointed out 5. they said ok they are 42 dollars each, cash only. I said um I'll buy ONE but you're crazy if you think I'll buy 5. so I bought one, and two months pass and my magazine never came. I looked it up online and found all these scams, I feel so dumb and tricked. those trashy girls ripped me off! how do people get these jobs? do the companies advertise positions for door to door sales and then train them how to deceive people?
i happen to have worked for this company sunshine subscription agency an what i can tell you is yes they advertise for young adults 18-25 to come travel on the road selling magazines an having partys an all kinds of fun...then when you get there you realize all of them do drugs...and yes they teach you how to scam people! duh! now to be completley honest there are still some very good people on "mag crew" as its caled...they are hoest and will tell you they are selling magazines to earn $1000 and a trip! an truthefully they are you really can win the money and a trip...these ones wll tell you it is not for school...cause its not...and honestly they are telling you the truth they just leave out the fact that they get $10 in commision for every magazine subscription they sell...so don`t hold it against all of the agents if they are honest with you and tell you the truth buy a magazine from them...you can always call the company and even ask them what the kids are supposed to say...from an honest agent who sold magazines the right way...i even went to jail my 1st 2 weeks on the job because i didnt know we needed a license to work in ocala florida...if the agents wants a license they can go an buy them in the city hall of any town you work in for a fee of $150...
I was thinking of doing it, but I've been looking stuff up about it and came across your post. Vince gave me a phone interview and made it sound great, I have no tie downs where I live an I'm 23 so it sounded sweet to me. I guess what I'm askin is, if its worth doing?
Just went looking through some old receipts of mine and found this one from SSA for a year subscription to Good Housekeeping. The date of receipt is June 2011 ...it is now Oct 31 and I have rec'd nothing! I am really pissed off. A very nice, clean cut young man had come to my door in June and stupid me was taken for an idiot. Boy am I really mad about this. Although he only scammed me for $24 it still makes me angry that I was deceived. Please let me know if I can do anything other than complain about this...NOT HAPPY IN ROCHESTER, NY~!
