I am a business owner and utilize UPS much during each month. I am usually
happy with their service, but The UPS Store on 1436 Altamont Ave, Schenectady,
NY has changed my view of UPS stores. This store has no customer service
skills and excessive costs.
On March 28, 2011 I was sending a prepared package with prepaid mailing label-
all it need was one strip of tape to finish the packaging and be sent out.
The gentleman asked me for $2 for taping. I questioned him why the charge
since I prepaid for the shipping. He said it costs him $2 for tape (He used
maybe 5 inches of tape). I paid the fee, but felt uneasy. I followed up
with a phone call to UPS Corporate headquarters which they explained that the
fee was excessive and not needed. I returned into the store to question the
gentleman what UPS corporate verbalized to me. He becomes rude and
inappropriate. I felt unsafe for my physical safety as well as concerned by
my package with an expensive item inside it. I asked for my package and he
intially refused to give it back to me.
With persistence he gave me back my package but not my money. At this time I
am thankful I have my package and it is safe with me and all items were
thankfully inside. However, this gentlemen and worker was verbally
aggressive, inappropriate and rude. In addition, he is charging excessive
fees to customers. Furthermore, UPS corporate also does not support his
inappropriate and irrational behavior.
The point of this complaint is the lack of professional communication and inapproproate conduct as well as the unnessary fees, which UPS coporate supported my concern of this fee. As a customer calling the UPS Corporate inquring about this and with their response, you can see why a customer, such as I would feel they are being cheated and ripped off. In questioning this fee, they became irritated and rude. The lack of proper and professional skills to resolve this issue nor communicate is unfortunate- I am sure it hurts business- I guess that is why they need even $2 to stay open, therefore I am glad I gave the donation.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
You came to the UPS Store to ship a package. You did not have the package properly sealed. You needed one strip of tape to finish the packaging. They sold you the tape for $2.00. You became upset. I don't see a complaint with the UPS Store.
I went to store #5111 Sacramento CA to ship a laptop. I had my own box with laptop, power cord. 3 CD's and instruction manuel, the rep at store suggested he pack it into one of their boxes specifically for laptops. I agreed, sorry to say, the only thing to make it to destination was laptop and power cord. Spoke with manager several times and was basically dissed and said I was out of luck for any claim on lost items, because I did not write down all items in box even though they packed it from my box to theirs. ups stores are a crock and are not honest.
Hi, I work at a UPS Store, we provide taping to all of our clients for free. Even if they ship USPS. I think you should report that store to Mail Box Etc.
You came to the UPS Store to ship a properly sealed package. Your package was not properly sealed. You needed one strip of tape to finish the packaging. The tape didn't cost $2, it was his time and effort to finish sealing your package for you. I don't see a issue with the UPS Store? Don;t forget the owner makes ZERO dollars for the effort of taking your parcel for you. The extra $2 for being able to dump off your parcel and not having to wait for the UPS driver seems like a HUGE bargain to me.
Ok, UPSStoreArk you guys do what you want, but you are going to complain this much over $2 then thats crazy. The UPS Stores get about 10 cents in revenue on your drop off packages, or prepaid packages, but with royalties (paying a percentage of our profits to UPS and MBE) we profit about 3-5 cents. When factoring in the cost of tape, we make a penny. Remember we have to get up, walk to you, wait on you, Tape up your package, put on the label, and take it to the stack of packages. And all that for a penny. At our store we provide a small strip for free, but if you want a lot, then we make you buy a 200 foot long roll of tape for $2.
