unexplained charges
I have the bbt app and I linked my SunTrust account to the app so I could perform transfers. I transferred 90 to checking from SunTrust and $50 to savings. The 90 disappeared for almost a week until I pitched a fit and then I seen that the $50 had posted but it was on pending/administrative hold ( what is that!?!) .well I called them and SunTrust several times and nobody seemed to know what was going on, oh because I forgot to mention bbt charged me twice $50 ..one for the actual funds, okay..then some random idk what! Well the next day I look at my account and I have been charged $2 for about 10 customer service and support phone calls! When did they start charging for that!?!? They don't! I'm switching banks that was the last straw

I've read all of these complaints and feel like such a fool. I banked with KNBT since 1999. When they were bought by BBT and the trouble started I was told countless times when I called in that I have to "educate myself" on the difference between them and the "new practices" of this bank. I thought I wa the only one who was confused on how one transaction one day could go through in two days and then another take 8. It's like they intentionally wait until your account goes down and hold all transactions pending and then decide to put them through at will to accrue fees that you never should of gotten to begin with. Today is the last straw. I had a fraudulent iTunes account opened and for the last 3 months my account has been charged $10.59. Not with my permission. I called iTunes and they refunded two of the charges, but said that's all they could do and to ask my bank about the the third. In dealing with them I knew that was a lost cause but the last $10.59 transaction accrued a NSF fee so I called BBT and told them that I cancelled this account from iTunes I've been charged for for three months and could they at least refund the $36 fee that I shouldn't of gotten to behind with...here's the clincher. The money was set up to be removed through PayPal so when I told them that's where the refund went, they refused. They said if we can't see it refunded into your account we won't refund the fee. I told them I could email proof and still No. WELL, I cancelled this account and three days later, guess what, (it was not paid the first time because I had other fees accrued... same thing as all of you. Fees I don't understand but we were in between paychecks) . They put it though AGAIN, after I cancelled that account! And I had put a check in the bank and it wasn't covering anything because, you guessed it, PENDING! I'm so done. I didn't want to switch everything over but this isn't gonna stop and my hard earned money is too valuable To keep letting these crooks take it. I'm in for a lawsuit!

Yes I feel you there ! I want to switch so bad! They actually charged my SUNTRUST account twice for 50 bucks when I transferred 50... Nobody seemed to know what was going on I was on the phone all day and get THIS! The next day I was charged $2 for every customer service phone call! When did that start !? I'm sick of it . You go for a law suit I'm in it with you!

I have been with BB&T for over 20 years and have been abused by their overdraft system many time but this last one really makes me so mad I wish I knew who to contact since my branch manager had the perfect explanation as to why I was charged $36 OD. On 5/17/2018 my account balance was 161.32, I knew my car payment was coming through so on my way home at 9.25 pm I made a cash deposit through the ATM for $50.00 and got a receipt timed 9:25 pm stating available balance 211.32. I awoke on the morning of 5/18/2018 with a low balance warning, so I immediately checked my balance and it stated $8.12 I knew this was wrong so I checked my account and they posted my auto payment, then my OD charge of $36 and then stated the deposit in a pending status. It was cash! I called them and was told the computer posts these items and the OD fee can not be refunded because I had an OD fee refunded in April 2017 and the computer allows only 1 refund every 2 years. I earn no more than 11, 000 a year and they don't care if they make you homeless. They took my $50 cash and they took my $36 OD fee and a million reasons why they have to be fair to every client. WTF, I am thinking if we allow computers to determine how to handle our account and no live person can intervene do you realize what will be next. BB&T as well as most banks who do the same our going to ruin all of us who make less than $50, 000 a year. I would love for someone to reply and tell me who I need to speak to next. $36 will feed me for one week and they just took my food of my table.

excessive overdraft fee and reversed transactions for monetary gain
On may 4th-5th I made 5 transactions and had the funds to cover them all. On may 7th I checked my online account everything from the weekend had been paid and funds were there. Sometime later in the day on may 7 my insurance hit my account, which made it negative by that amount only -$245 (mind everything said cleared already). The next day may 8th, I check my account and they had reversed everything that cleared on monday and charged me a $36 dollar fee for everything like I had $0 dollar from the beginning. Crooks! overdraft fee stacking
We were using the automated system to track our "available" balance, as we were told to do to avoid overdraft fees, which happen when a person only looks at the Daily Posted Balance.
We had 15 charges on 5/7/18, most of them under $8.00, some
as low as $.96. All of the debits were showing as pending or posted. At 7:30 pm, on 5/7, we put $53.00 in gas in the tank, assuming since it was the last debit that we would only be charged for one overdraft. Right before we put gas in the tank, our account still showed in the black ($1 or $2 in account)
The bank intentionally stacked the debits, and we incurred 9
overdraft fees! The supervisor, Stacey, tried to convince me that it was because some of the charges had been delayed, and debits could be delayed for 3 - 5 days. But according to my records, no debits were delayed, but displayed prominently.
They know what they are doing. Banks can make up to 60 percent of their revenue in overdraft fees alone. Over 90% of a bank's overdraft fees are collected against people who make less than $50, 000.00 a year. So don't even dare to suggest to me that they are not well aware of what they are doing, and will continue to do so, as long as they possibly can. Stacey,
the supervisor, obliquely told on BB&T when she told me, "When you knew you were overdrafting the account by putting gas in, that set off a chain reaction that resulted in these charges", thus telling me that essentially I had given them the permission to exact all those charges!
We must all protect ourselves with the tedious task of keeping our own running balance and hope they apply deposits and debits properly! The devil is in the details, because they always have the fine print to fall back on. However, they all know they are acting in bad faith. Some of the complaints on this board are almost unbelievable.
I have called the law firm listed in one complaint, and left a message to call me back if they are pursuing a class action law suit. If there is anything I can do to address the injustices, I intend to leave no stone un-turned.

Umm yes please let me know about the lawsuit! Hi I'm Rachael btw. But the [censored] charged me $2 for every customer service phone call I made to them...they were so rude and acted like they had no idea what was going on with the situation with the account.
privacy violation of customer
BB&T employee Deanna Damon violated my privacy by making a remark about FMLA. I filed a Corporate Complaint and she of course lied about the incident.
Then, she made false statements to the Kenton County Police Department stating I called the branch and harassed her. NOT TRUE. I have not contacted that branch since she insulted me. She accessed my personal information without my consent. That is gave officer Benner my wireless number so he could wrongly call me and scream at me for something I had not done. This issue had already been resolved weeks before and the officer knew that and still called me. Why is she still employed there?
She is a liability to the community.
BB&T CEO line sent me a letter on March 1st 2018 stating they had addressed the issue.

home loan practices
Went through BB&T in 2016 for a mortgage I was up in Tenn selling another one and at their mercy. We were very well qualified and not a tarnish on our credit score. Dealt with Crystal River BB&T in Fl. The loan officer there was not only rude but deceitful and flat out lied. I saved every email every correspondence and conversation. We were given an interest rate of 4% Two weeks before closing which ended up not being on the closing date we were assured of he calls and said the house was too unique and he was putting us in a portfolio loan at 4.5% and then declared I don't have to give you this loan. At that point we were not advised even by our realtor that we could have changed banks and were approved at another bank with a rate of 3.75%The closing agent was appalled at what was going on and advised us to go to corporate. I'm sure you know what that did. Recently we received a check from BB&T for almost 1,700$ 1,545 for mistakes in the closing statement and 150.00 for the problems. Really we had to immediately refinance with the other bank and incurred closing costs again to get away from them. The assistant couldn't even read the closing statement and what they wanted to charge us in flood ins. was astronomical so I sought out my own homeowners and flood ins. at a quarter of the cost. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a bank and wouldn't let my dog open any kind of account there. Beware of their banking practices and do not use them for anything.
There are so many things I could say about the treatment deceit and the so called qualifications we endured from this bank it would take at least a week to go through them all. My question is what is happening with BB&T that a paid off home loan from 2016 through another bank why did they send this check a couple of weeks ago with a revised closing statement and 150.$ for pain and suffering!

I always incur fees and I'm not suppose to at all my available balance is never correct to them and their math is always correct let them tell it but you can't go by your account how does that work? I got another fee after having a balance if almost $100 on yesterday and making debits of $46 how did I incur a fee! I was told a bill was paid of $500 + but how did that happen if my account isn't overdrawn by $500 they are a joke I'll be closing all 5 accounts this week, I have 11 accounts with other banks, and never had this issue.

We accrued 16 overdraft charges in two weeks. The customer service agent told me someone had "opted in" to letting all transactions go through regardless of balance. They said it was done online. I am the person in charge of our finances and I never opted in to anything. They refused to refund any overdraft charges. Two OD charges were posted when there was no negative balance for over a week. We have banked with them for 25 years. We are financially stressed and this has caused other things like power and water to be cut off because the $ we would have used to pay that went to OD charges. I took it all the way to Corporate and they could have cared less. Needless to say we are changing banks!
This is exactly wat happened 2 me, n Dec. I had a money market acct. attached 2 this checking acct. & never saw negative charges & all of a sudden big amounts (which found out were the fees taken out n big amounts, not 1 by 1 & redeposit? I had never overdrawn b4. I had a checking then savings & thought when 2nd branch opened money market vs. savings, that it was attached 2 checking. I had a lot of $ n the acct. & it would've covered the fees. They never called me & I thought I had texting 2 my ph. attached. They said they aren't responsible & didn't care if I close my acct. along w/don't tell peeps about attaching accts. 2 another. I've had many different banks like B of A, Chase, Sun, & credit unions & always been told about attaching accts. This is very scammy & I'm reporting 2 Consumer agency & BBB. Wells Fargo got n trouble a few mos. ago 4 something like this! I don't get y they won't refund, knowing I have been jobless since May. I opened this acct. n Texas & live n CA, bc I was goin' on my last vaca. after losing my job & had 2 have an acct. 2 deposit my retirement $ 2 live off of. The mgr. wasn't even sympathetic 2 my situation & said the fees would b on my statement 4 me 2 know. My statement comes out after the fact & acct. never showed like normal bank accts. neg. amts. w/fees taken off 2 take care of. I had transferred funds via ph. when my acct. was negative & traveling & couldn't check online as 2 wat the big amounts were. I thought they may b my car payment or storage or other big bills, not knowing bunched up fee amounts! :(
This was X'mas time & I was using my debit card & never showing the amounts debited w/fees taken out, until later when redeposited a few x & fees taken out. There's some amounts of $1-$10, where I pd. 2-3 fees 4 @ $36 ea. Citibank doesn't charge fees 4 those amounts & Chase will give courtesy credits, wanting 2 keep ur bus. & knowing peeps make mistakes. Some of us don't have access or use online regularly, but it wouldn't have mattered, bc didn't show online! I don't think the emp. or young mgr. knows that these things aren't shown online! :(

On Friday Feb 23, 2018 I went to the ATM outside the BB&T bank I always go to in Lady Lake Fl. I put my card in and attempted to withdraw 120.00 to pay a plumbing bill. The machine did nothing for almost 5 minutes and then it gave me my card back and said they could not process my transaction. I went inside and tried to make the withdrawl but they said I only had 73.00 left on account. I called the bank and it took the 120. 00 out of my account but I never got the money from machine. I tried contacting customer service but could it was down as well as the website. Tried calling number on card but kept me on hold and I had to work. Got i touch with fraud dept Sat Feb 24 2018, but they said I have to put a claim in and it would take 45 days. I felt this was very unhelpful because it was machine that malfunctioned.

My payroll is direct deposited to BB&T, On 1/19/2018 my deposit was $1559, i was aware of the NEGATIVE balance i had ( i had to do it) the overdradt was -$661, my balance $898.08, i never made and big purchases on 1/23/2018, i recieved an email stating i was in the negative-$343, how is that so I emailed and asked them to look at my account and explain how is that, she responded after my deposit and overdraft was paid my balance was $514, how is this possible? I emailed back with my debits within those 4 days, like i explained there is no way i was in the negative in 4 days. They applied a courtesy $36 refund my balance -$307 and for the next day my balance was back to -343, im sick of this bank cheating their customers, something needs to be done ASAP

WE went through a builder and he recommended this Bank, we were going Va which requires no down payment, by the time we were done, the TILA changed a number of times and the costs were almost 10K in fees, it didnt seems logically to increase that much in a few weeks, my understanding is it cannot increase not more then 1% the MLO who was a complete [censor], would not go go through the costs, it apparently was to much of a bother so as a result, I reached out to a guy we meet at a title company and asked him to look all this over for us just to make sure this was right. The MLO, and builder got pissed when we told him we had this guy look at it and found the some issues and we also now wanted to changed Title companies. Come to find out the MLO and the builder are all closely connected and are also friends with the Title company. The MLO now got irrate with our new Title guy and told him the builder wasnt budging and we woldnt close etc. I filed a complaint to the CFBP and BBT upper management, they were really NO help, just more ohh sorry. I file to see how any of this was not a violation in some way of respa, TILA, Dodd Frank and I do not see how they get away with it Our basic issue was, a contract we had SIGNED was different then what this MLO was use to getting, yet the bank decided they would process that contract as they did every other one with this builder. Only problem was, is we were a VA LOAN and agreed to much different terms and so did the builder but the MLO didnt think it was a big deal because he didnt care. Luckily we and the builder signed and initialed everything so they couldnt dispute it, the builder ended up making good on the contract, the bank just acted like OH WELL.. I think at one point the MLO accused me of doing something intentional (lol) Yeah I got my signature, so not one could screw us and luckly we did. I do not know how the CFBP after hearing this just sends them a note and all is forgotten, I thought thats what they were their for.. Thankx to the new Title company and Attorney we hired we saved 6K dollars. But that didnt replace the few thousand we spent on the attorney to get it remedied. The Bank on the other hand, had they actaully verified OUR contract at the beginning they would have saved us and the builder a lot of time, and energy. I guess I just do not know how they do not get in trouble for this, they gave us one figure at the beginning and days before closing totally increase it to something entirely different then have to readjust it due to their error... Anyone that does business with them is crazy I would tell everyone I meet to stay far away. We have since closed the LOAN but wanted someone to maybe learn from what we have been though..

I've been banking with BB&T since 2006 (the only bank I've ever used) and I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU LEAVE IF YOU HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM. They were awesome at first, not one complaint until 2017. A sociopathic CEO must have taken over because they have become extremely predatory. First of all, transactions do not show up on your account until several days afterwards. In the meantime, they don't reflect on your available balance, so it causes confusion. I admit I could take more care in balancing my "check book, " but this was NEVER an issue with BB&T before. I used to pay a bill, refresh my online banking page, and immediately see the charge there.
The big issue is overdraft fees. Their Overdraft Protection is an absolute joke. First, if your checking account doesn't cover a transaction, they use your savings account to make up the difference. Sounds like a great idea. Very caring of BB&T...NOPE. What they literally never tell you anywhere on their site, is that they charge you $12.50 TO USE YOUR OWN MONEY every time that happens. Second, even though I have it set to decline all transactions if I don't have the money, the fees still keep coming! So all told, every overdraft costs me $48.50. Outrageous. I had a really hard financial year last year, and being hit with over $1000 in fees makes it nearly impossible to recover. I'm leaving and won't look back. Do not consider using them. Because they WILL use you.

BB&T Changed the time money came out for bill pay and charged me mega bucks in over draft fees' This bank really sucks! I would never recommend it to anyone. I am in the process of changing.
a monthly $9.95 charge for quicken-don't have/use
Charged since 10/2015 a monthly charge of 9.95 for OLB -they said a quicken/quick book online fee.
I have never used/download etc any software remotely related. Concerned about my account/ fraud/ and restitution means.
It seems I am not the first one. Do they have a breach of security? How do they authorized if they have no information from account holder?

I had a posted balance of $113.65. The next day a total of $81.24 charges post to my account and $48.10 credit was pending. This should have left me with a balance of $32.41 posted balance and $48.10 still pending. Instead, they charged $108 in overdraft fees. The next day, My $48.10 deposit posted along with a $55 charge (a legitimate charge). I was then hit with another $72 overdraft fee. They charged me a $36 overdraft fee for my $48 deposit! This is not the first time they have charged me an overdraft fee for a deposit. I called the bank and left a voice mail. Two hours later I called back and the rep answered. She said she had to go to another computer so she could see what was going on and she would call me right back in a minute. After 4 hours and me calling several times leaving messages, she called back. She said she would not discuss the issue but would send me an email. The email explained that they were charging overdraft fees on "Pending" charges and that is their policy. She offered no explanation for the overdraft fee for the deposit. There should have been plenty of available cash in my account to cover all my transactions. The biggest issue is that people like us have no recourse for this action and they know it and take advantage of that. I have filed an official complaint to the Better Business Bureau of Virginia but have no confidence that will go anywhere. I have also sent a letter to corporate and I'm sure they are laughing at it. I sent screenshots of my balance and transactions to the BBB of Virginia.

Ok i used my Debit card on the 29 of Sept where there was supposed to had my money on hold 417.00 to be exact and once I returned the vechile back 200.00 of that deposit would go back to me. So what happend they took my money out of pending status which cause me to be hit with the total of a 144.00 dollars of over draft fees this is un heard of I swear I thought when that money was in pending status that money was already been tooken out put to the side this is unfair I'm not going to stop until I get this problem solve if I have to take this to the President of the Bank I will I want results.

There system is set up to make them money. If you make a mistake. It may cost you several hundred dollars. I look at my account. It is in the negative. Oh no. Four Items pending. So, I run and put in a deposit to cover the 30.00 dollars in mistakes. With their fee and my mistake. 47.00 in the negative. Then I have four pending. Two transactions for 1.00. One for 5.00 at Wendys. One more for 8.00 at a gas station. The deposit was put on hold. Cash deposit. They charged me and my husband 144.00. Plus the one to start with. That thirty dollars cost us 180.00. I call the bank. They send me to manager. She tells me to wait until the last bad charge goes through and she will refund the bad charge money. Speak with her the next day. She tells me that she can't. I ask if I can speak with someone else. She said you can speak with our manager but, she is going to tell you the same thing. She says it is system generated. Nothing that I can do. I tell her that I thought that I was speaking to the manager. She sends me to the managers voicemail. Still no call from the branch manager. In my opinion, that is robbery. People who work regular jobs and live week to week. Do not bank with them! If you make a mistake. It will cost you hundreds. 200.00 isn't a lot to some people but, it is to me. It is a third of my weekly check. All they will do is tell you sorry, tough luck. Keep better track of your money. The system is set up to make them money period. I wonder how many people that this happens to. How much money do they make in overdraft fees. How is it even legal to charge 36.00 for one dollar. It is horrible. Devastating to my family that rely on every dime to pay bills and feed their families. I will be changing banks. I will not allow them to rob me in the future. I guess I will feed my kids air. That is what I can afford now. I see that almost every complaint says they tried to contact to resolve the issue. And couldn't contact the customer. I was just recently tricked into switching over from my BB&T Classic Online Banking to BB&T U Online Banking! This new U site is very confusing and that's for reason! I've always kept separate books and they've always matched up with my Classic Online Banking. Woke up this morning and almost $900 dollars was missing from my account. When I found out what it was for...I had deducted those payments from my account almost a week earlier! I'm looking for another bank! Hope to banking with a new bank by next month!
