Recently my wife called Bank of America to see if we could lower our interest rate on our account. She mentioned that she just went on disability and wanted to see if we could get our rate lowered since we have been a customer for 10 years with them.
Once she mentioned disability the rep forwarded her to risk management who immediately closed all our Bank of America accounts. Risk management said they routinely perform checks on all account holders and decided to close our accounts on the spot. The truth is they never checked our accounts until my wife called that day. They claimed they ran our credit to make that decision. Our credit scores are 700 plus and we have never missed a payment or been late.
After hearing that from my wife I called and spoke to a manager. The manager was extremely rude and didn't care to listen or explain why they closed our accounts. He said if I had a problem with the decision I should file a complaint and they stand by the decision that was made.
What happened to the days when you could walk into a bank and feel welcome. I will never again do any business with Bank of America and hope others never go through what we went through.
Don't worry the accounts are only closed to you- if a company charges against them BOA will still bill you.
You should never tell these folks about negative events as they are shy now about anything. Plus how was being on disability going to make you qualify for lower interest rates? If anything you should have asked for the lower rates when she was still "healthy".

I too am disabled I bought the disability insurance to go with ALL my credit cards because if you don't carry a balance there is no premium. I used to pay faithfully and had scores of 800+
When I got Disabled B o A since 2005 has refused to turn on the Insurance for 2 cards. One was an MBNA card taken over by B of A. They not only turned off both cards they hiked my rates to the over the top 28+% levels claiming I was now I high risk. So much for non discrimination. At first they did not tell me they were not turning on the insurance so I had some lates while waiting for insurance that is not on. They keep claiming they haven't gotten the forms.
For 3 years now. They left out that they changed insurers and was given wrong numbers.
Still fighting sending forms and waiting.
I had a similar experience with Bank of America. When the economy was good and I used my card for a wedding they doubled my limit. I called to get another card to replace my Chase card (who upped their APR for many) they declined and lowered the balance of my current card. I make better money than I did when I opened that card 3 years ago, and my credit score is better! It's hard but my goal is to be credit card debt free in 10 months before they can do more damage. These credit card companies are getting out of control. Who's protecting us?
I have an account with Bank of America too. When I applied for the card the Finance charge was:18.99%, I went over $100.41 over the limit, the Finance charge went up to:20.99%, I was charge of $165.67 Finance charge fee every month for 6 months and $146.86 there after. In one year I have sent them a total payments of $4, 500.00 ($350.00 monthly)and out of that, only $2, 800.00 was aplied to my total balance I owed. So you can imagine my dismay, when I called to speak to the manager, not only that the wait was forever, almost 30 minutes, was given from one number to the next and of course more hold...I was only asking for a possibilty of lowering the Finance charge on this card, not only that I got a NO! for an answer, the so called Manager was so rude and down right mean to me! I was so frustrated, that I tould him, I will find a way to pay this off as soon as possible and will report them to Better Bussiness Bureau. We should report this company to BBB and file a complaint. This company should have been one of the company that need to be shut down. When I do pay this off, I will never open any kind of Account with them or open a Bank account. I will discourage any one from opening or making any kind of bussiness with this company. I need advice as to how I can ask for a lower Fianace charge or should I ask for pay off and just pay them off and close this account. Thank you everyone, I thought I was the only one who is having this kind of issue.
I hope this company gets hammered. I have the same "Story" as everyone else--I called BOA (which took over my MBNA account a couple of years ago) and took advantage of of a low interest tranfer from another card.
A few weeks ago I called them to ask about payments, because I am going through a divorce. I had no idea that once they found out about this change in my marital status that they would then send me a letter --LESS THAN A WEEK LATER_-saying they were cutting my credit limit to exactly what I had on the card.
I told them that was discrimination--and nothing else--as my income had not changed, my debt load had not changed. . . . etc. . . and the "lady" ( I use that term loosely) was a complete "B----" to me.
I had been a coustomer for nearly 12 years! with near perfect credit. My credit rating is good to great. I had NO late payments, and usually paid twice a month, in fact.
Having a credit card that is "maxed out" --which is what theyi n affect did to me--is derogatory to have on your credit rating.
I spent over an hou on the phone with this person--who wouldn't listen to a thing I had to say--and gave me no legitimate reason for the decision--and eventually told her I wasn't going to be giving them any more of my business--and closed my card.
They seemed happy to do it. And I'm a good customer. I can't imagine how people who have had a couple of late payments are being treated!
I would be more than supportive and join in on any organization/group of people who filed a class action lawsuit.
This company is a disgrace.
I have been a customer with BOA for yrs they have my mtg & ck. My ARM was coming due & I called to see about a good fixed rate. The guy sd 7%, I sd no I want to ck other banks to get a lower one. He assured me this was a conversion mtg & anytime I see the rates go down I can call & get the lower one w/no charges. Well I sd ok & when the rates fell I called & was told it's not a conversion mtg & can't change the rate. He lied & conned me bigtime. I feel stupid it must have been in the fine print & I overlooked it.
I would join any class action suite
I called to inquire on interest rates, and was also dropped in my available credit line on my credit card. I'm combing to see how there may be an error ~ I just got $210 in overdraft fees, and they're saying they won't credit anything back. Wish I knew a way higher up to talk to about it!
I have seen enough of BOA's chicken ### ways of doing business and deducting from my checking account for things like fraud protection against identity theft - which I NEVER signed up for, lowering my credit limit on my credit card, cutting off my line of credit on my home equity loan to what the balance was, etc., etc.. I VERY STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WHO READS THIS AND ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS TO STAY COMPLETLY AWAY FROM BANK OF AMERICA. IF YOU DO BUSINESS WITH THEM - YOU WILL LOSE MONEY AND YOU WILL GET SCREWED. I cannot believe our supposed regulaters allow them to stay in business. What the hell good is it to have the supposed regulators if they do nothing to protect consumers against tyrants like Bank of America? Does anyone think Obama or our other politicians will go against BOA? I'd bet my life they won't... There's too much money passed under the table to those in power. It's politics as usual. I am like everyone else who has complained. I will get BOA paid off and NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN. Make sure you pass the word and tell all of your friends, family and everyone else who will listen about BOA's scams and frauds. Wouldn't it be great to see them go down the tubes like the piece of crap they are?
I also would jump at the chance to join in a class action law suit against BOA. They have to be THE WORST in the banking industry - hands down...

I really don't like how they update their databases on Monday and not throughout the weekend. The funds I had in my account have not been posted until Monday, and they charged an "Overdraft Protection Transfer Fee" in a way that would trigger an Overdraft fee (ironic I know).
I really don't like how the bankers can see different things in our account summaries.
I really don't like how they have an Overdraft fee for an Overdraft fee.
I'm dropping them as a banking service. They stole too much money from me.
I really don't like them at all.
Your borrowing money from your bank and they closed your account out of fear you will default if your line of credit is open. Ultimately, every poster on this board and people around the country will pay the price indirectly for a consumer's lack of responsibility. It sucks but that's part of reality. I'm extremely grateful I've never opened a HECL account but if I had and my income reduced due to a disability I'd be grateful the banks would freeze my line of credit or close it out entirely because I'll be paying down what I owe at the time. What's better paying $5, 000 or $50, 000? Yes, I work for the bank but I'm a human being too and I've made my fair share of financial mistakes over the years. My mortgage is under $45K, my husband has $15K in credit card debts and our combined income is roughly around $65K and we don't have alot in our savings account. My husband works in retail and he makes more than I do, by the way. You must be your own banker. Learn from your mistakes, take responsibility for your actions and save your money for a rainy day.
Every one here has the option of going to the FTC web site AND the Comptroller of the Treasury web site and filing a complaint with these 2 GOVERNMENT AGENCIES about Bank of America. I did after I called to tell them that I was sending $11, 000 to pay off my credit card that had a $40, 000 maximum credit limit. The B of A "woman" immediately told me that she was lowering my credit limit to the $11, 000 AND also closing my other 2 B of A VISA cards which had zero balances. AND I HAD AN 803 CREDIT SCORE, Never had a late or missed payment IN MY OVER 60 YEARS of life. That was 2 weeks ago. Guess what...My Credit score DROPPED 50 points ! Thanks Bank of America.
I have been a customer BofA since 1991. Today they send me a letter about closing all my accounts without ANY EXPLANATION!
Same problem just happend today. My card is over 20% my wifes is at 10.99% and she just got a blance transfer offer of 5.99 from BOA. So I called to get a better rate. What did I get? Credit limit cut and an offer for debt conseling. WTF my income has gone up since I got my card, never been late in over 5 years with BOA and credit score over 700 and my debt has gone down. I didn't call for help, I called to give them a chance before I did a blance transfer to another company so they could keep a customer instaed the insulted me. I don't guess they wanted me as one.
I was a customer of Bank of America from [protected]. I called them to ask about a fee they were charging on my bill that I did not understand, suddenly the very arrogant, rude young man, that was on the other end said that they would just cancel the card, at that very moment, because my credit wasn't up to par and hung-up on me laughing. My credit has never changed, in fact it's gotten better, they are dumping everybody intentionally - they don't want to be in the Credit Card business-they want a fee based business "Banks" so they can stick their hand directly in your pocket. They will end-up lossing anyway/bad Karma will close their doors and they will be the ones in Bankruptcy Court. I called back to explain...blah blah blah... If anybody files a Class Action Law Suite count me in.
