I made it clear to Coast dental I strictly wanted my teeth cleaned. After spending $500, my teeth still arent cleaned, COAST handed me a bill for $4, 000, 00 for peridontal treatment before they would clean my teeth. I called another dentist who told me they would clean my teeth for $85.00 plus $35.00 exam. I spent $500 at Coast, and 2 wasted trips.

over $1000 teeth cleaning
Coast dental is the worst service I ever had. They overcharged me $500 for teeth cleaning on 2/2/09, so far they still have not refunded it to me. They billed my insurance ~$900, but on my account showing as ~$1000, they let me pay the rest, but never told me until I found it by myself. The account lady was so rude, she never told me the truth. Always ha...

Back in 2007, I had to have all my teeth pulled and dentures made. I did not have insurance so I got one of those discount dental plans and went to the Coast Dental on Waters Avenue, Tampa, FL. They did an exam, took xrays and gave me an estimate of treatment. The total plan came to $3, 879.00. We paid $1679 and financed the rest through 'their financial bank'. Wells Fargo did not charge finance charges but for some reason, I ended up paying $3891.66. Okay, while making the mold for my dentures, both the technician and the dentist kept having to remake the mold because my mouth is so small they did not have a mold small enough. But eventually, the mold was made, my teeth were pulled and the dentures put in my mouth. That night was agony but I went back the next day so that they could start making adjustments. The entire time, the dentist kept telling me that the bottom dentures would never fit properly or stay in because there was nothing to hold in the denture. I tried adhesives, Sea Bond and nothing worked. He told me the only want the lower denture would ever stay in was if I got implants to the tune of $5, 000 to $10, 000. I looked at him as if he had a third eye and say no thanks. They never did fit properly. The upper denture fit just fine. I felt that since the upper fit great and that the lower would never fit anyway, I never got the relines done. We satisfied the entire account in August 2007 and forgot all about it. Then in the middle of 2008, my husband reminded me that I never got the relines done so I should write to them and ask for a refund. I ended up writing two letters to the Coast Dental on Waters Avenue in Tampa and was advised my Nancy, the office manager that I was entitled to a refund of $562 and she would put in the request to the Corporate Office and to wait about 6 to 8 weeks. I waited 12 weeks and made numerous calls to Nancy but never got a call back. Finally, after about 16 weeks, she called me back and told me that she forgot to put in the request for a refund and would do it that day. I went up to the office a few days later to make sure she had done so and she said she did. I waited a few more weeks, and she finally called me and said Corporate said I was not entitled to a refund. I sent Corporate a certified letter, not only asking for a refund of the $562, but also for a refund of $1289 for the lower denture that I can never wear. She called me today and told me that I would not be getting a refund because I never paid for the services. HUH? I have proof I paid for everything. I am going to write Corporate one more letter and enclose printouts of the complaints on this web page and let them know that this seems to be their modus operandi. If they still refuse to give me a refund, I will contact the local tv station and talk to their consumer advocate and also report them to the American Dental Association, our Attorney General, Better Business Bureau and whomever else I can report them to.

In February, 2012, I underwent a root canal at this location. At the time of the root canal, I was given a required amount to pay, which I paid on that visit. Upon completion of my insurance review, I learned that I had overpaid by about $67. I have been trying since mid-March, 2012 to get my refund. It is now mid-June 2012! Each time I call I'm told "It has been approved. Call us back in a couple of weeks for an update". Clearly, they have NO intention of EVER giving me my refund. I'm just thankful that it is not in the 1, 000's of dollars. Avoid Coast Dental if at all possible or REFUSE to pay them ANYTHING up-front.
They are definitely Sales people! We are snowbirds from WI and needed a Dentist, here in Florida that accepted our Dental Plan. My wife and I went to Coast Dental for a check-up and afterwords we were given our plan of attack. We were both handed estimates for over $7000. each. It's not like we don't go to dentists, on a regular basis. I asked the Dentist why I needed so many crowns replaced and she said I don't floss. I informed her that I floss two times a day and her answer was “then your not doing it right.” My last couple of cleanings back home I was congratulated on how well I cleaned my teeth. There is something wrong here, but I haven't been to a different dentist yet!
My credit card was billed 6 months before services and over charged by 1, 000 and was told no refunds or credits. Ethics have no place at this profit center. All they care about is $$$ not your health. Find a real dentist office your bank account will thank you as we'll as your dental health.
My wife & I both had dental services with this office in January, 2013. We paid for the services that the office said was our responsibility and would submit the remainder to our insurance company. We receive invoices for large amounts of money and they said that the claim was denied. Spoke to our insurance company who said that requested additional information. One of the things they needed was an explanation of benefits from a secondary insurance company. I had that info and sent it to the insurance company. We called the dental office and they said that they would contact the insurance company and resubmit. We later received additional bills. Called the insurance company who said they never heard from them. Called the dentist office back and was told that I would get a call back from the office manager. Later received additional bills. No indication that they received any payment from the insurance company. The insurance company said they sent a check (that was cashed on 2/17/13 for $136. Today, received calls from a collection agency. Recalled the insurance company who called the dental office while I was on hold. The insurance company said they gave the dental office an e-mail address to use to send them the requested information. The dental offoce told them they would send the information. Insurance company told me to wait 3-4 days to see if they got a response and then call them back.
My 95yr old mother recently had a broken hip surgery. It is very hard for her to get into a car and go outside her living community. 7months ago she was fitted with new upper and lower dentures at Coast Dental, under the supervision of Dr. David Sherberg. After her recent surgery, she was having trouble chewing her food due to a loose lower denture. I had to bring her into Dr. Sherbergs office for what could have been a quick adjustment. Our appointment was for 3:30 and we arrived 3:24pm. After sitting for 25 minutes, my mother was falling asleep in the waiting room. At that time I asked the receptionist how long we would have to wait and if I should rescheduled. She saw how uncomfortable my mother was and went to the back and said "just a few more minutes" so we waited. It was now almost 4pm and I asked for a new appointment with the office manager. She went back into the dentist's area and came back to get my mother. We waited in the dental chair and my mother continued to get uncomfortable and sleepy again. While I got up to leave I overheard Dr Sherberg claim that we "came an hour early" so what was our problem so I proceeded to correct his error and he very RUDELY stated that he was working as fast as he could and that we had the choice to reschedule. He was severely belligerent in his words and tone and continued to give both my mother and I the impression that he could care less about the state of my 95 year old mother's status. I am a reasonable person and understand doctor's offices run behind some times. That is why I asked to reschedule in the first place. We left the office at 4:15 with absolutely NO apology by Dr Sherberg.
I called in to schedule my appointment as a new patient. I told the receptionist that I wanted to schedule an appointment to have my teeth cleaned. I arrived at the office and was called back and placed in a room that was very outdated and quite frankly very dirty. There was 1/4 inch of dust on the surface of the trash can and many other area of the room. There was hair of different lengths and colors on the floor and the exam chair. This lead me to believe that it had been a while since anybody really cleaned the room properly. After I was able to push past my disqust of the room condition I was informed by the lady that was in the room with me that they had checked my insurance and I have no xray claims on my insurance and that we would be doing exrays. I explained to her that I had just had a full mouth x-ray done 8 months ago with my previous Dentist. She said they were still required and also tried to sell me on a cancer screen. I declined the cancer screening and allowed the x-rays to be taken only because I was under the impression that I had to have them done if I wanted to have my cleaning and exam. She went ahead and took 18 un-needed xrays of my mouth and when she was finishing up she was explaining to me that I would have to come back to have my teeth cleaned. At this point, I became pretty furious and began to question what was being done and why I was misinformed of theservices I would be recieving when I came in. I asked to speak with the Office Manager and was greeted by a woman who looked like she could care less about my complaint. I expressed to her my concerns and told her I felt that they tok advantage of the fact that I have insurance and did not have an x-ray claim in with my insurance provider. I explained that had I been informed that I needed xrays to be seen by the Doctor, I would have gladly brought in my films from my previous provider. She apologized but offered no remedy to the situation. I made sure to get copies of my films before leaving the office. Going to a Dentist as a new patient, I expected to walk out with a CLEAN SMILE, instead a left with a DIRTY FROWN. I will never return to ANY COAST dental.
DO NOT go to Coast Dental! Worst dental experience ever. They nickle and dime you from the second you walk in the door--they are in it to make money, not to care about your dental health. I was told that my cleaning needed to be so extensive that my regular insurance would not even cover it--but that it should cover the follow up appt 4 weeks later. I felt taken advantage of...and will NEVER return!
I have never been talked to so unprofessionally and condescendingly to in my life as the office manager has at the hwy 92 location . How does this lady keep her job! I have had words with her the past two times I have been in there. I cant seem to find a corporate office to contact about her. They also do really cheap crowns. I have had nothing but problems with it since they put it in a year and a half ago. Now its come loose and they claim their not liable for it because I haven't been in their office in a year. "I could have been chewing on rocks" is just one of the comments the office manager said to me . You cannot have a normal professional conversation with this woman, Please do not go to this office or any of their offices.
I was told that I needed a root canal by my regular dentist. They referred me to another dentist but the cost was $800 so we called our insurance and was referred to Coast Dental as they were "in network" so the root canal is fully covered. We contacted Coast Dental and were told that the root canal is 100% covered so I took the day off and went. Once I arrived, I was examined by the dentist and then told that my root canal would be $800. I asked them why as it was supposed to be fully covered and I was told that there were "special" things that I needed that were not covered. Because I was already there and took the day off, I went ahead with the treatment. When I paid and left I was given a bill that I examined closer at home. There were items like a "rubber dam" that were normally included at no charge per the bill, but the price was adjusted up for me to $330. Other things were also manipulated to make the price higher. Even my regular dentist commented that they "were very creative with the billing" (even though they prefaced that they can not comment bad about another dentist for professional reasons). The treatment was fine and the dentist did a good job, but I was definitely scammed by the office to get me in and pay the same price as any "out of network" dentist would have been. They even sent me an additional bill two weeks later to ask for another $25. When I called their office to complain, the billing lady was not helpful at all and very standoffish. I would not recommend that anyone go to this office and fall prey to their scam as I did.
Omg this just happened to me today. I have simply medicare hmo, my insurance co. Made the appointment knowing it was for a root canal, I have been in so much pain I just wanted fixed. She presented me with a 1300.00 bill the insurance part of it was 300.00 + and my part was $900.00 plus. My insurance co told me I was not responsible for any part of the bill. Now what do I do?
You made a BIG mistake taking your elderly mother to a corporate dental chain clinic. Young dentists like the ones who usually work there know little about making and adjusting dentures.
For goodness sakes, find a good dentist who OWNS their own practice. Most of the ones who are good at dentures are older and/or ex-military.
Cheesy chains like the ones you visited overbook the young dentists working there, which almost always results in them running late.
overcharges
My experience with Coast Dental is that they will overcharge you for treatment. They will then bill the insurance and receive payment from them.
The explanation of benefits you receive will state that you are owed a refund, but Coast Dental will never give it to you.

MAY 31, 2022 was seen by rachel hamon . june 20th AND june 30th.this has nothing to do with my complaint. but they are rip off the insurance companies
Was charged 2856 dollars for a procedure they couldn’t do because after I pay they say I need a route canal first. So I couldn’t afford the root canal so I ask for my refund so I can pay for the procedure. Since 10/21/2021 no refund . Just a run around from everyone
I received treatment back in November2018 and was overcharged 650.00 and i have filed all paperwork to receive my refund almost a year ago i have contacted corporate advocate resolve and never received even a call back i need this money back and would like this matter resolved.
The front desk ladies are very rude.. they are the face and first impression of the office. I had an appointment that was cancelled due to non confirmation that i was not aware of. They were very rude and no smiles at all.. i will not return and share my experience.
Pasadena, fl coast dental
They have cancelled appointments and then changed appointment time without my knowledge. Still waited 2+ hours for my child to get her teeth cleaned. They always blame it on being under staffed or emergencies. Completely unacceptable and ridiculous. Not sure how they are able to stay in business.
Very nasty staff, very rude and unprofessional.
I have read many of the comments and know that most of the problems seem to be poor communication. No new patient should ever be told they can have a simple cleaning without having a periodontal diagnosis. If it's been over six months since your last cleaning, chances are you have gum disease and a simple cleaning is not protocol in any practice and it should never be suggested over the phone that a new patient can just come in and dictate the type of treatment they think they need. If it feel like your gums hurt during a cleaning, chances are you have gum disease. It is an infection and it will hurt during a "cleaning" but it rarely hurts during the time you are living your daily life. Some hygienists are more gentle, some are or more thorough, and some are perhaps even a little heavy handed. Xrays are necessary. As far as appointments being confirmed, it is the patient's responsibility to show up and confirm their own appointment. We are all adults and confirmation calls are complimentary. No one should have the job of mothering you with reminders. Insurance will never, never pay for much treatment. Consider it a little donation or a discount in some cases. I would suggest before agreeing to treatment, the patient should ask for a treatment estimate . They should sign the consent and the doctor or patient coordinator should sign it. As a patient you are going into their practice and you follow their rules. If you don't like it, simply go somewhere else. Chances are if you see 10 different dentists, you will get 10 different diagnosises. It's that way anywhere. I am a hygienist and am considering working at a Coast Dental and did a search to see what showed uo re Coast. I will tell you that what I am reading could be said about any office if the patient does not understand how insurance works, or how gum disease is diagnosed and treated.
I just read some of the complaints. My wife and I went there for the same reason as one of the other writers. Our regular dent ist no longer accepted our insurance and we would have to pay out of network prices. We tried Coastal because it is blocks from our home. Our appointment was at 10 am we got in an hour late. I had a cracked tooth. They charged me almost $500 to repair it by preparing it for a crown which they were going to do on the spot after a deep cleaning. Right in the middle of the Dr. grinding down my tooth he started saying "cavity oh oh I see a cavity" He told me he would have to stop and do a temp fix and come back another day to have the cavity fixed first because it was below an old filling. I thought it was odd since I had no pain at all. He said it might require a root canal and also I really should do a couple of bridges and a crown on the adjoining tooth. I asked how much for the root canal. I was told it would be a lot but wouldn't say exactly what it would cost me. I could hear my wife talking in the next room and they were telling her that she had some 4s and 5s with some pockets and infection. She needed a crown etc. She told them no thanks and left. I told them I could hear their conversation, and asked how extensive here work was going to be and what would it cost. They said just a deep cleaning and one bridge. When I got home my wife was beside herself. They told her she needed three deep cleanings which would cost $700 to $900 and with the bridge the total would probably run over $3000. Needless to say, I am probably out the nearly $500 I paid today and all I got was a temp crown. I will be going back to my old Doctor. Thanks everyone for the tip offs.

I also have spend many dollars at Coast Dental. Because they have certain procedures, Coast Dental is not very senior friendly. I also was told, after sitting in the chair for an hour and a half that I would have to see a periodontist and have surgery and root planing. The doctor never came into the room and examined my mouth. Well, I said no and asked the hygenist if she would just clean my teeth. The answer was no, because it would spread bacteria. I left after they gave me a quote of $242.00 for a filling.
I went to my old dentist. I had my teeth examined and cleaned and made an appointment for the following week to have the filling taken care of. It will cost $114.00. That is without insurance.
I would not recommend Coast Dental to anyone.
As a visitor to Florida, I did not want to go all the way back home to have my teeth cleaned. So, I made an appointment with Coast Dental in Port Richey. They made an initial exam and took x-rays and then referred me to a periodontist because they claimed that I had periodontal disease. Since I have gone to the dentist twice a year, for at least the past 15 years, I thought that their diagnosis was doubtful.
I called my dentist at home and explained the situation to him. He reviewed my records and compared my most recent x-rays with those taken 4 years ago. He said he understood why Coast Dental came to conclusion that they did, as he had thought the same thing when I first went to him. Moreover, I saw a periodontist last year for another problem and there was no mention of periodontal disease.
My dentist explained the issue, which I then relayed to Coast Dental. I also gave them my dentist's name and phone number and asked them to give him a call. They refused outright and said that they would not clean my teeth unless I saw the periodontist.
They billed my insurance (they are a participating provider in my network) and then sent me a bill for more than the amount of my responsibility as indicated on the explanation of benefits from my insurer.
In addition, at the initial visit, they offered to perform a check for cancer at the rate of $50.00, which involved putting some type of solution in my mouth. I declined.
I mentioned this test to my regular dentist and in his opinion, if the solution that they use to test for cancer is what he thinks it is, it may itself be carcinogenic. Also, my regular dentist includes the cancer exam as part of the routine examination.
I have found that in Georgia, same as Florida, the dentest will not perform a general cleaning. They always insist they perform a deep cleaning test first, which always results in deep cleaning that generally costs approx. $250.00 per upper or lower side each. If you refuse the deep cleaning they will refuse to perform general cleaning. When you tell them you are the patient and the customer and you will decide the cleaning they simply refuse you service. They are all out to goudge the patient.
