huge increase in cost
We travel Australia on a full time basis and always purchase the 500g Coles Spreadable buttery blend. We buy this product because it is the closest thing we have come across that tastes like butter. Normally we pay $3.25 for the item. I was shocked yesterday when I had to pay $4.50 for the same item. Surely Coles you cannot justify an increase of $1.25 on this item. PLEASE EXPLAIN.
I normally purchase the 500g Spreadable buttery blend and have used this product for some time. I normally pay $3.25 for it. Imagine my surprise when I went to purchase it yesterday and the cost was $4.50 and Increase of $1.25 per unit. I would love to hear you justify an increase of $1.25 for this product. so PLEASE EXPLAIN
bakery workers
I'm disgusted that every time I shop in close the male baker wants to stare and make horrible faces at me. I've seen this baker eat some of the product his made lick his fingers and proceed to go back to working with the baked goods without washing his hands. This baker wants to talk to Co workers and point at me as if to say his talking to them about me. I find this male baker rude and disgusting.
credit card overcharged

My order cost $250.29 but the delivery driver somehow charged me three times too much leaving me out of pocket to the value of $500.58
Because it was a friday customer care informed me i would be waiting until the following week to be refunded. How does a company justify taking hundreds off a person and offering a coupon as compensation.
Why was I unable to go to the nearest store and be refunded in cash this is serious and yet these people don't seem to care at all. I believe my order should have been free of charge after being subjected to this.
Free shipping? Is it not obvious i am simply ordering my groceries here in Australia. This is part of a weekly budget, I believe good budgeting is the foundation of comfortable living and a crucial element in educating children how to be in control of their money. We all know how it feels when someone owes you money because it's yours right but when $500 is taken without permission for over 5 days regardless of the fact it will be returned there needs to be first of all a valid explanation as to how this can happen and secondly something substantial available to people that this happens to so it then becomes top priority to the company to sort the problem out. This is no beg if Coles Supermarkets Australia are simply able to give a coupon to customers in situations such as this to make it all better it will keep happening!

My delivery at 3.55pm Western Australian time was unknowingly overcharged $500.58. On realizing this I immediately contacted commonwealth bank to see if this was an error on their end and they assured me this was not and Coles Banksia Grove WA 6031 was at fault in this instance.
I immediately called customer care to seek a solution because this is money I need for my weekend but the employee informed me there could be no credit back until after the weekend and I should apply for a business loan to get me through which did not amuse me. My next question was how are you going to compensate me for this serious issue and the male I was speaking to advised me he would add this to the email that was going to be sent to management at Coles Banksia Grove WA 6031.
Online manager Paul from Banksia Grove called Saturday morning and left a message to call and discuss the situation. I called back but he had gone home and an employee suggested I call back on Sunday when Paul would be back in store. At 11.54am On Sunday 19/11/2017 I contacted Online Manager Paul at Banksia Grove who apologetically informed me there was no explanation for what has happened and a $50 coupon would be added to my next order. He assured me my money would be bounced back into my account first instance Monday morning and I would not be required to supply any details to achieve this.
Today 20/11/2017 8am A voice message left on my phone requesting I call customer care with my credit card details ready so a refund could be organized. This is now interfering with a course i am attending while I am put back on hold with customer care and then repeat myself over again as if nothing was ever discussed. After my card details have been given the phone attendant then tells me I will need to wait 2 - 3 working days for my money to be returned. This is Unacceptable and a $50 coupon will not be sufficient I would like my entire order free of charge to the value of $250.29.
I assume you have not worked in retail as anyone who has would know that a cash refund cannot be given when the original purchase was done with a credit card. Additionally, for one mistake you expect a $250+ order to be free? You are being very unreasonable. They did not have to offer you anything, let alone a coupon. People make mistakes and you are not an understanding individual.
I have actually worked in retail for over 10 years in fact and I would be mortified if this happened to a customer under my service. I assume you don't have kids to feed and bills to pay and have excess money lying around and therefore if you were charged 3 times for something you would be totally ok with this situation. My family and I had plans the weekend that just passed and due to these funds being unlawfully taken we had to change them. Kids do not understand how Coles could take their weekend spending money. We were told this situation would be sorted by Monday and still 5 days later we are waiting for the refund and still we have kids to feed and bills to pay with no extra cash flow to fall back on. And we are also still waiting for an explanation as to how this could happen. I Sincerely hope this never happens to you Mr Pobarjenkins
I actually have three children, and am on a semi-limited budget. If someone attempted to charge me three times for such a large purchase, I would not be surprised if my card was declined. That being said, I absolutely understand why you are upset as that is a large amount of money. However, in no way should they take a $250+ loss for this mistake. The $50 credit is a good attempt at customer service.
The issue here is how. Clearly a mistake has occurred with no explanation. I have absolutely no problem with the customer service crew they were great. I agree the $50 credit is recognition for the error only it falls way short of the mark in customer satisfaction when there's no reason at all given and a promise made my funds would be returned first thing Monday. A good attempt but not even close to good enough.
I don't disagree that they should be expediting your refund (although it's not rare for refunds to take several business days). In regards to an explanation, it most likely was just an accident by an employee so there isn't much to elaborate on.
In my opinion, a $50.00 coupon is a large credit for the inconvenience when they technically don't have to offer you anything. $50.00 is not a small amount of money. Most likely the employee that made the mistake probably got a verbal or written warning as well. Both of those things are enough to encourage a company and its employees to be more careful. It's likely that this was an isolated incident.
A $250.00 refund is unreasonable and I can't think of many companies that would do that, let alone even $50.00. Margins on groceries are not like the margins on other retail products.
Well done you are a good mediator. I don't believe there was a mistake made by the employee he did exactly the same procedure each time and was not at fault. It would not be fair to issue him with a warning.
I'm assuming your first sentence was sarcastic.
Why would he do it on purpose? What would he have to gain? It's not like he can use the credit card funds for personal use. And finally, what punishment would you consider "fair?"
vouchers
i recieved vouchers that i can use when shopping at coles for extra points on my flybuys card and when i scan them with my flybuy card it wont accept it so i cant recieve extra points. what is the use of sending them to me if when i scan them it wont give the points to me it seems like its just a scam. why send out vouchers if they dont work what is the use of getting them
coles white bread
I purchased Coles bread at Coles Express at 37 Daly st., Darwin, NT, Australia on Thursday 16/11/17.
When I opened the bread I realised there was a bug on the second slice in the sliced pan. It was buried in the bread.
I am disgusted to say the least as I do my online shop with Coles each week.
I hope to hear back as to how this matter is going to be dealt with.
lamb
Purchased a boned lamb roast from my local coles at airport west today - $17.50 a kilo - the worst piece of meat of have ever bought and barely edible - surely the butcher would have been able to see the large fat content in the centre of the rolled lamb - just not at all enjoyable - complaining is not something I would normally do but this was such a waste of money
You may want to return it to the store of purchase along with your receipt for a replacement or refund.
tiptop sandwich thins
Visited High Wycombe store this PM 16.11.2017 and among the items bought was a packet of Tip Top Sandwich thins -- use by date 19.11.2017. When opening the packet at home found the thins were severely mildewed so returned to store where counter staff shrugged it off and said "You need a refund" (Customer service ?)n Asked to see Manager who appeared to be conciliatory and somewhat off hand however said he would give me a refund. Said he would write about it however it is very obvious that the sandwich thins had been frozen, maybe many times, and defrosted ready for sale. This very poor supplier quality control, staff management in product checking has ensured this customer will be shopping at any other major store BUT definitely not Coles supermarkets.
You had one damaged product that was refunded. Did you purchase other items that were bad as well? If not, it may have just been an isolated incident.
fruit
I find the 3 ranges of grapes that Coles in Tasmania have been supplying for a long time now very substandard, all 3 variaties (red, green and black, all coming from USA)
They are often very marked on the skin, often are not ripe (hard and woody more like biting into an apple) and most of all they are never sweet.
I have given up buying them after many times thinking they may improve.
What annoys me more than ever is Coles used to supply beautiful juicy sweet green grapes (they were nearly yellow in colour and smaller than the present ones) I believe they were Australian grapes!
I dont mind paying more to get the former grapes back and i am sure most would agree with me.
At present I dont even look at them anymore and I am looking round to find another source that supplies better quality grapes, obviously I will buy all my fruit and groceries while I am there!
I have been a loyal customer for many decades.
bakery
The new coles supermarket kensington at bundaberg is a very good store and we support it regularly.
The new bakery is a popular section but there is a serious problem there with product provided. There is an imbalance of wholemeal vienna loaves.
This is a very popular loaf but the daily supply is only 5 loaves at any one time and sold out before 10a. M. Daily. Far too many white loaves are baked and far too few wholemeal loaves.
Can you please arrange for twice as many wholemeal vienna to be baked for the customers and thereby satisfy the actual demand.
All the staff say is that that is all we are provided with one would think they would have the initiative to report the actual need.
product packaging
Why do Coles persist in packaging items in multiples? Today I needed to buy a salad onion (one) the best I could do was buy a bunch. Seems to me that this just creates waste (most likely I will discard the three or four left in the bunch) and cost (I was forced to buy more than I required. I also required to buy a baby Cos lettuce but again was forced to buy mare than required creating extra waste and cost. I would like to be able to deal directly with Coles rather than through a third party and obtain a registeration that I don't want!
purr seafood 12 satchel box pet food
My coles at picton does not stock this item and I have been buying it as a single item which is more expensive then buying by the box - as im on a low income and ever cent counts - so I drive for 30 minutes to go to campbelltown mall branch search for it the shelf us empty I ask a worker if there is any more she goes to go out the back and look and instead says they would have to open a box and it would take 2 - 3 hours to do this was on saturday at 4.30pm... I couldn't believe what she said I would have to wait till at least 7pm before I could get some I told her where I was from that only came in for this item and wouldnt be back for weeks but still didnt care... I think this service is disgusting and maybe all stores should stock all not just some of the brands... I have 3 cats and the seafood purr is the only ones they will eat and I sick of buying it individually when they c9me in boxes of 12... Something needs to be done when workers cant be bother looking for the customer. Kenzi... [protected]@hotmail.com
slow cooked lamb
So sad that after the recommended amount of time to cook the Slow Cooked lamb the end result is a piece of meat that weighs under 180 grams after a starting weight of 550 grams, a mere 32% of its starting weight. I was then told by customer service that the amount of water containing in the product complies to Australian regulations. Perhaps there could be a serving suggestions if you have a family of 4 and would like more than 44 grams each then perhaps you should purchase 2 Australian Slow Cooked Lamb that compiled to Australian Regulations.
Buyers please be aware.
baby formula
I am really annoyed, today (12/11/2017) at about midday I was shopping at my local Coles Burnside store and I witnessed the manager take a customer into the back of the store and bring out a trolley full of boxes of baby formula. He then took the customer to a register and sold at least if not more than 30 cans of the baby formula to that ONE customer! How can this be allowed that one customer can purchase all the stock when there is none on the shelf and on the shelf it says you can only buy 2 cans per customer! I can't even buy 2 cans because every time I go into that Coles store they are always sold out and now I can see why! This is so unfair and something needs to be done about this! People need this product for their babies and it's not right that this is the reason it is not in stock.
coles bakery rip off
Coles have sold Pana Di Casa roles 4 pack for $2.50.
Sometimes they sold out due to popularity.
Coles response? remove one of the roles, now a 3 pack and leave the price unchanged. So a 25% reduction in the product and a 33 1/3% increase in Coles margin.
In my recent experience this is typical of Coles taking advantage their customer with rip offs.
If it was Coles' idea to slow down demand, well they have sure done that.
I for one won't buy these rolls in future.
I'm a retiree in the Armidale district and I speak to a lot of people in my community.
Aldi are respectful of customers and suppliers unlike Coles.
Sincerely
Mark Kearney
Its similar to the oil company's technique of two energy drinks for $5 then once people form a habit of regular purchase they stop it for a while only lowering an individual can slightly increasing profits astoundingly because people still need to feed their habits.
Do you mean gas stations?
One in particular, Eureka Operations. I realize most food retail outlets use this sales technique with addictive products containing caffeine and other stimulants. Energy drinks consumed at double dosage increases tolerance levels meaning more is consumed and dependency is established. The new CC's cheese energy flavor would have undoubtedly raised an eyebrow or two.
Launched in a very limited market through Coles express fuel outlets, these 90g packets of corn chips with an average energy drink will surely turn any average stimulant user into an addict willing to spend their last dollar.
I was just wondering if you had meant gas stations when you wrote oil companies.
Yes I did wanted to clarify which gasoline stations and why.
A few months back I asked a bakery staff member to weigh the 4 pack to see if it was more cost efficient than the $3.00 Pane Di Casa stick. The 4 pack was more cost efficient. So now they sell a 3 Pack at the same price. Coincidence?
It really isn't "ripping off" anyone. Sales can and do change at any time. This can be dependent on availability, suppliers, and costs. They could just remove the sale completely.
sending emails on weekly specials and when you shop there is nothing on the shelves.
I receive emails on what I can save by shopping at Coles Waterford West Logan City Queensland every week and when I do shop on a Friday mid afternoon some of the specials are never stocked on the shelves (feel very disappointed and don't believe I should have to change my shopping times) I have often tempted myself to ask for the store manager however over the past few years I have found this particular stores staff very unmotivated so have shopped and left disappointed, I have always continued to support Coles and other Wesfarmers businesses as a shareholder in Wesfarmers. I truly believe the Waterford West Store is badly managed.
If you would accept further feedback I am only willing to assist..
large dead fly
Today I found a large dead fly amongst the cheeses at Coles, Kalamunda, WA 6076
I walked the full length of the store, with the carton of cheese together with the fly before I found a member of staff. I showed what I had found and she looked at me, took the offending carton of cheese and fly and walked away with no comment whatsoever.
Conclusion - I will in future shop at Aldi (opening 22nd November) and Woolworths until some serious staff development is carried out at Coles.
Coles - you need to seriously up your game with regard to health and safety also
Flies can arrive and die at any place and any time. At most what they could do is apologize that it was there. What other resolution could they have offered?
shelves not stocked no checkouts open
We have been long time customers of Coles Northgate at Glenorchy Tasmania and often shop on a Sunday. Last Sunday 5th November we arrived early and found the shelves nearly empty. After shopping we were trying to get out and pay for our groceries but there were one limited item checkout open, when we asked the girl to please open one we were told to wait until she was finished doing some job behind the counter, quite rudely and told the self checkouts were not open yet. We were very disappointed and are considering changing back to Woolies.
The management may have required her to complete her task before she was allowed to open another register.
groceries section
Hi I'm a regular customer of coles at maroubra (pacific square) recently I've seen a bit different for people working at night time and so uncomfortable seeing the things in every isle because the package messed up on the ground and one day I've been searching for something and coles member said "excuse me" many time. It was so annoying and thought being kicked up from that area.
And for customer bring trolley hard for them to put a side while a lot of groceries package on the floor.
service
I went through a checkout with this young lady named Zara she was quite rude towards me and my daughter she doesn't like my daughter for various reasons unbeknownst to me and because the other registers were full we had to go through her register which was fine but as soon as she was rude towards me and had no manners whatsoever, she needs to have some manners even if it someone they don't like it is not workplace etiquette, when she sees my daughter in the supermarket she sniggers to the person working behind her which in my opinion is quite rude she needs to be taught some manners, she glares at my youngest daughter since she knows that my youngest has special needs (autism) and makes fun of her for no reason... if this person is not reprimanded properly then I will take it to the head boss and not her mother but I will take it to the head boss and the media will be notified because of how you have rude employees that are quite rude to customers I have noticed her do this to other people on more then one occasion
bad staff need to train them
Zara is a rude [censor] been through her before, coles get it together your staff need training in interpersonal skills, or just replace them with machines as your staff are rude end of story.
In light of coles new "Quiet Hour" at various stores on Tuesday Mornings between 10.30am and 11.30am for people with autism this type of behavior contradicts the campaign. Being subjected to Judgement by a staff member in this manner is disgusting.
Have you asked to speak to her supervisor either in person or on the phone? To be perfectly honest, I am almost completely sure that "the media" would not care about one rude employee at one store.
click and collect
My husband works with Coles and has recently received his mycoles card. We have been told that he cannot use his mycoles card using Click and Collect. This is how we have done our grocery shopping for over a year now and certainly find it the best way for us; a busy working family to get our shopping done without too much stress. How come we cannot use it? Is there a way this can be rectified?
Your husband should ask his manager or human resources department this question since he is an employee.
He asked at the store at the time of collecting our order for this week and he was told to ring the Customer Care line and that's when the information was given to us that when using Click and Collect you can't use your mycoles card. So that's when we questioned this and asked on this forum if there is something that can be done. After posting the above comment I also emailed Customer Care and they responded via email saying yes we can use it on Click and Collect we just have to add the mycoles number when once logged in on an option it gives. So it is all fixed now and we are grateful that we can use it when we do our shopping. It's just a pity about the wrong answer we got from Customer Care; in the future I think my hubby should ask his manager and that would've been our next step if we weren't asked to ring Customer Care. Thanks for your reply :-)
Glad to hear it worked out in the end.

My thoughts on this are that Christmas is coming and certain items will be on special but in order to do this other items must be increased so that their superior profit margin is unaffected. One word springs to mind, CAPITALISM
