Per my last post regarding a snake on the bike path: after a quick google search, it seemed clear that the snake in question (Simon, I now call him), was not in fact, a baby rattlesnake. It appeared to be a King snake, or a Gopher snake, neither of which pose any harm to pets or passersby. So, I let him live. In fact, I relocated Simon to a nearby bush, a hundred feet off the bike path, where he appeared comfortable, and infinitely safer, assuming he has the good sense to avoid the bike path. I also learned in the comments that baby poisonous snakes do not, in fact, as I alleged, release more venom than their adult counterparts. That appears to be a myth, and the experts seem to agree. But still, some in the comments are still maintaining that baby snakes are more venomous. Interesting. Once a myth takes hold, it's very hard to let go of.
