disintergrating carpet
Do yourself a favor don't believe you are getting a deal with empire carpet, even if it is 50% off, you will be paying for lies and problems, namely; carpet that comes apart from the wall, rips apart from the seams, and disintergrates under foot.
Google: "complaints against empire carpet" you will get plenty of information to read and think about it long and hard before you sign with empire. Empire today's own personal web-site is bogus, think smart, they're not going to tell you the truth there either.
People who have settled with them have to sign a no-disclosure contract so their scam cannot be readily uncovered.
They sub-contract everything, salesmen, installers, carpet manufactures. Be warned. Sorry if you are reading this too late as not to get burned, all you can do then is try and warn others.

installation nightmare
In December 2007 Empire's installers spilled a small can of stain which ruined some trim boards and splattered on a stone front bar. I have left several messages for a Donna (no last name known) x3169 to no avail. I have emailed pictures of the damage, faxed receipts for proof of cost of products damaged and as of 2/29/08 still do not have this rectified. I was not able to stay for the installation and my wife was not aware this was done by the installers as they did not report spilling the stain to us.
I work at a retailer that sells flooring, i can say from experience that all the money issues should have been delt with prior to the installer's coming over as this seems to be the brunt of the drama.
Laminate will scratch yes but not easily, even the cheap stuff will not scratch easily, you have to keep in mind that pets with claws not trimmed will not scratch laminate.
I see you mentioned that the installer said that it will scratch if you move furniture across it, all you simply have to do is get some felt pads or pads that go on the bottom of furniture, you can buy them at home depot, PROBLEM SOLVED LOL.
It sounds like he said that just to irk you, dont be irk'd your flooring is fine.
Im sorry to hear that you got poor customer service, youll probably be better off next time if you use your local home depot or "lowes".
I recently hired Empire Today for carpet and laminate flooring for my home. What a mistake. The mintue the installer hit the driveway he demanded his money up front. I explained that my Fiance would bring it home on his lunch hour, half being paid in check and half in cash. They don't except personal checks so he had to call his office for approval before starting the job. He got approval and started installing the laminate. The carpet installers showed up two hours later and they wanted their money for the carpet installation. I explained how I intended to pay and the previous approval recieved from the laminate installer and noticed that they were just hanging around and not doing much. The carpet installer said that their policy with Empire was that the carpet was paid on one invoice and the laminate paid on another invoice. I told him I hired Empire one company, one payment. My Fiance came home and left me the money and went back to work. Shortly after the laminate installer comes in and tells me that he is going to finish the hallway and he is walking off the job. I was stunned, he never had discussed the payment other then the early morning and had he came to me after lunch I would have given him the money and so on, after a heated discussion the laminate installer refused to deal with me, payment was counted and processed with the carpet installer who didn't want to hold the money and gave it back to me. Prior to all this I was told by the laminate floor installer that my flooring was not all that it was suppose to be according to my sales rep, that the flooring will scratch by simply sliding a piece of furniture over it. The entire experience was a nightmare. Go through Lowes or someone that has a great product, sales team and so on. Empire Today Sucks!
fraudulent pricing
I booked an appointment on line and the Sales Associate arrived on time to measure my entire house which needed new carpeting. She even measured some areas twice to make sure of the footage, as we had the original specs on our home from 1996. She made two diagrams, one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs and then gave us two different prices for two different quality of rug. Since we were putting the house up for sale, we went for the lower estimate and signed a contract along with giving a deposit. This was 2/9/08. We were to have the rugs installed on 2/22/08. Five days after our contract we received a telphone call on our answering machine to contact the Sales Associate which my wife did. She left her a message that we would be home after 6 PM and she could call back. The next day she called our home again left another message, which my wife returned and said we would be home all weekend to discuss whatever was concerning her regarding our contract. Instead of using the alternate number which is my cell phone she proceeded to call again on 2/18/08 at our home, knowing that we both work. She finally got my wife at 5:30 PM at home on Monday the 18th and proceeded to explain that she mismeasured and that the cost would now be $1,800 more than the contract. My wife told her that I would call her back but not to expect that I would go for a higher price since the contract was firm. I proceeded to speak with six other supervisors, regional managers and even the office of the president, but the woman at that office would not give me the president's name - she didn't know it. After Empire trying t0 tell me for $1,000 more they would complete the job, I said I wanted them to honor their contract, I was told that on the back of the contract it states that Empire has 30 days to cancel a contract due to delays, shortage of material or incorrect pricing. So convenient this would be on the back of the contract and not on the front. The consumer gets a 3 day cancellation option, but Empire gets 30 days. What is wrong with this picture? Empire has sent a certified letter cancelling the contract and return of our deposit. But now I must try to cancel their credit card and get it off my credit report because the Sales Associate I know didn't measure incorrectly but most likely gave us the wrong price. But twice - for two different grade of rugs. This sounds very suspicious to me. I have sent letters to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office of North Carolina who my wife deals with at her job so the higher ups are familiar to her. I want everyone to know to steer clear of dealing with Empire Today, you most likely will get a better deal with your local merchants who will most likely be more honest with you.

Hi my name Bradd I just went through your training in San Francisco it was 2 weeks . The trainer was from LA area Jonnie, She said that she was there because the union city trainer needed help. It was very disorganize because she did not have the proper training material. I just figured she was from out of town. Your recruiter was Jennifer Hansen and said that I could do this part time your ad says I can do this part time with flexible hours. Since I have a medical issues I thought it would be a good fit. After the 2 week training we have the SF Trainer for 1 day he gave a test and was mostly rude. Ross was his name. We went to p/u samples at the office and was told this is not a part time job but mon- sat 9-7 . Also i did not get any carpet padding or vinly cut out and lamanit . I work with some property mgr company that would have like to see some of that and window treatments. and they did like the next day install . Base on my experience with your mgr at union city I will not recmand them to you. Maybe you should give them a better training on how handle part time .We had the Dm walk right passed us without saying a hello even. I tried to talk to Wille our mgr about my situation. He said that empire throws as many people against the wall and see what ### sticks as in people . I see why your nps score is so low in this market . the mgr are very unprof and rude to their contractors . I thought you should know to protect your image . You can call me at707 586 1433 if you care. I just got back from dropping off my supplies And to be fair I brought the corporate ad that say that you welcome part time contractors. Ross told me thats not true only full time and didn't seem to care about what the ad said.
THANK YOU Bradd Shattuck

bad carpet
I had carpet put down about 6months ago, it started sheading, I call them and told them, it is in such bad condition that I riped it up and threw it out.
Actually, I found a place for laminate floor for 99 CENT SQ F! The warranty is for 50 years!
That is amazing, imagine all I can save. They installed it, they saud the installation is going to be around 500 bucks for 300 sg of my kitchen. Well, the store installed it in 10 days, it cost me 99 cents plus tax, but the installers charged me around 900 buck, the store said they dont have nothing to do whith installations prices, so I just paid it. The installation was fine, but, this store made me signed the 50 years warranty, and for my surprise, they said that once the floor is installed, the warranty is VOID! what in earht is that! A few months later, the laminate started to bend upwards, I called the store and I was told someone will be going to my hose in the next week. They indeed came the next, next, next week (three weeks later) and said that the laminate I purchased is very low quality and if I want it to last longer I should purchase new flooring! That is outrageous! Next thing is that they will charge me 500 bucks to fix just a few laminates that are bending!
I had an estimate for empire today, but i learned from this blog that empire is a ripoff and that is not woth it, so I went to another store suggested in this blog, then all started to go wrong...
I learned my lesson, I should bought it from empire today in the first place, since they offered me an extraordinary flooring with written warranty and one year installation warranty. That is peace of mind. Next time, I will not be cheap as some people in this blog, shame for me, shame for you...
interst on full loan amt
Contracted Empire Today 588-2300 to replace a kitchen floor and was approved through there financing for $1607.00, with a 0 percent interest for 12 months.
I never was late with a payment and was never charged any interests until the 12 months were up in JAN 2008. I now owe a balance of only $400.00 I was never told that I would be charged an astronomical $$ amount of interest on the whole loan which was $1607.00.
The interest was only to be on the balance due, and I was never verbally told the true circumstances of this agreement. If I were informed correctly, I would have paid it off much sooner!
I am very disappointed to find that Empire Carpets would deal with such a financing company that would do this to there loyal customers.
So, my balance of $400.00 is now $846.00 which is an interst charge of $346.00 based on the original loan amount . I will dispute this with the company and request for immediate assistance in this matter.
Disgusted!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I am presently going thru the same thing. The interest hit my account in Jan. of this year, $2500.00 and now I am making monthly payments and not getting anywhere with the balance. Even called GE Money and they were not helpful at all. I will never ever suggest anyone to use Empire Carpets Today or Ge money.
I am presently going thru the same situation. I don't argue the fee( interest come due@years end) BUT, I feel the amount of credit extended ($6000 as opposed to $7500) to me should have been enough to cover the finance charge if the bill was to come full circle after one year. Now GE wants to charge me $39 a mo. until The balance is paid down under $6000. That could take me on a monthly basis app. one whole year of regular payments, plus overlimit fees. (Extra $480) No exceptions, no waving of fee, no credit extension; not to mention having my credit report reflecting possible late fees, & constant overlimit notations.

Hey man,
I hate to inform you, but this is not a a scam. This is something that is clearly disclosed in the documentation you signed or otherwise agreed to.
Yes, The salesman who's paid only comission for every sale didn't say, Oh and BTW, while I have you interested and ready to pay for this right out let me warn you that after 12 months, you will have to pay the entire loans' balance of interest if it's not paid in 12 months". That's not something he's paid to do, he's there to sell you a rug and get the hell out of there. Its your job as the consumer to make sure you read everything BEFORE you sign. Only if something is not disclosed on paper, you are not liable for such charges. If you didn't read the fine print, well sucks to be you buddy. Be happy you only got charged 30% interest, I've seen them as high as 50% or more.
I've worked for a bank for years, and this type of business has been out there for quite some time. "No Payments, No Interest for 12 Months" always means, 12 months, No interest ONLY IF YOU PAY IT OFF". Yes, it's not clearly disclosed in the title of the loan application, but with anything dealing with YOUR money, you MUST read every bit of fine print before you sign.
Mind you, I fuggin hate empire carpets, their salemen are complete tards, but this is not their fault. This is your negligence.
price deception!
If you are considering using Empire Today please read this and be advised that they are completely full of crap. I did not use them thanks to all of these complaint websites and after meeting them for the free estimate. Just in my brief 30 minute consulting period I knew they were full of crap. So here are the circumstances in how I got involved with...

I need new carpet for my home as I'm trying to sell it. I called Empire to try to get the cheapest deal possible because of an advertised 50% off sale. When Steve, the Empire sales rep came out, he measured my place, and the cheapest carpet that he'd show us was $4000 for the job. Since I only wanted to pay about half that, I was fine with it - but, Steve told my fiancee and I that the 50% off deal didn't apply to the quality that we chose. What the heck did that mean?!?
INSTEAD - Steve, because he "liked us" and thought we were a nice couple, was going to "break the rules a bit" and he'd buy the carpet for us through his 35% employee discount, which, he'd take 10% for himself, and pass 25% savings on to us, so, we were down to about 3200 dollars now. I told him that every other place quoted us about 2000, including Home Depot. He then pulled out a typewritten sheet that he made up himself about Home Depot, about all of their "hidden" charges. (all lies, we later found out, as we went to Home Depot to check.) I asked him for a card, in case we changed our minds, and he refused to give us any identifying information, and wouldn't leave the estimate with us either.
I was SO angry at the treatment, (and glad I read this stuff here) that I felt compelled to write. Steve obviously works on commission, but was so bad at it, (his cell phone kept ringing too, as if he was trying to seem self important) that I felt compelled to write here.
Do your research and don't be intimidated by your empire salesman! Thankfully, becuase I did, I didn't waste a LOT of money!

In all fairness, though I am aware that in sales there are dishonest sales folks, there are never the less dishonest folks in all industries.
I have sold in the, "In home" sales industry for years and I have dealt with, "Dishonest" clienst from time to time. Folks that said I said something I didn't, offered something I did not etc.
Point being, it is a two way street. I use an old principle when working with the public and it has served me well over the others and it is this:
Do under others as you would have them do unto you.
Integrity and character coupled with quality and service are a winning combination for all parties and it is how I operate.
If you have recieved less tha that I apologize for the salesman you had to deal with.
Ask for local references.
Best,
Steve

Broke our elevator
I am the Vice President of Villa Therese Condo Association, this is a 29 unit building with five floors. If you have flooring needs, I plead that you never do business with empire today. Their prices are ridiculous and the sales staff are a bunch of unprofessional con artists. Trust me, it starts from the top down. They are sweey and nice once in your home but immediately become terse the moment you hint at not buying. Who, in reality, needs their floors done the next day? The only reason why they favor providing "next-day installations" is because once it's installed, it's yours. You cannot back out! You signed an official contract and now you owe! Beware, people! Any questions, feel free to email me.

Whenever you go anywhere and get a "One year same as cash" deal, you are always subject to compound and accrued interest at the end of the finance period. The point is that you pay your balance off before the end of the year. If you cannot do that, it does not behoove you to take advantage of their offer. It is frustrating to me that people want to blame their ignorance on the way that things work on other people. You weren't "duped" or taken advantage of. There is no fraud. Sears, Home Depot, Lowes.. all long existing reputable establishments offer the same finance terms. All of them will add the compound interest at the end of the finance period. It's just the way it works. People please educate yourselves and be your own advocate FIRST. Allowing yourself to remain ignorant to policy, and then calling "Fraud" at the end of it simply because you did not take the time to understand what you were signing up for just isn't acceptable. I have taken advantage of this financing at Sears (2x), Home Depot, and Empire Today (2x). I understood the terms, paid off the balance within the one year as I agreed to, and I have never paid one cent of interest or fees.
P.S. The Empire Today in Maryland has been phenomenal. The sales and customer service were both polite and readily available both times I used them (2008 and 2010). I wasn't sure about my own personal color choice, and they offered to take care of me. No hesitation, and no hassle. I would absolutely go with them again, and highly recommend them to my friends and family.
Also in addition to the above fraudulent pricing. DO NOT BITE ON THEIR PROMOTION - NO PAYMENT FOR ONE WHOLE YEAR... They will not mention to you that " Yes, you are not paying for one year but the interest during this time will accumulate." After their promotion date expired, BAM... your bill will all of a sudden be $500. more of what you are expecting... Their credit provider GE.. also do not have good customer relations...
BEWARE OF THIS PROMOTION!
You ask who needs NEXT DAY SERVICE. APPARENTLY YOU DID! You called them and they showed up. You didn't like the price so you complained. That's nothing new. I want to buy lots of expensive stuff in my life. When I found out I couldn't afford it, I went somewhere else. Big deal!
failure to provide service or carpet offered
Empure Carpet came to our home and measured the carpet. We purchased the carpet after the salesman reasurred us repeatedly that they move furniture and boxes and the warranty covers pet stains( we have a puppy). Empire arrived and their crew (two people) said they do not move furniture and carpet and pet stains are not covered. They left the job saying they were going to cancel the job leaving exposed tack strip all over the steps. It was disgraceful and harmful to my family. Our house was a mess and left disheveled while we ordered new carpet from another company and had to wait over two weeks to get the carpet. Empire claims their salepeople don't work for them and are independent contractors. Beware. In my opinion, this company is running a huge scam.
The product is satisfactory, but forget about service after the sale! I left two messages with customer service (where they say you will receive a call back in 24 hours). When I called again, the woman said --- oh you must have talked to your sales person. I said, no, I have two reference numbers from customer service -- do you want to hear them? She got very quiet. BUT, we did not get ANY response until my husband was able to reach the manager of custer service. The problem was that the installation did not properly fit the space and they did not care. Finally, they fixed the problem, but it took weeks.
switch and bait!
When I decided to get laminate flooring from empire carpet in 2003, three different salesmen from that company came to my home and gave me three different prices on the same living room floor for the same product. I ended up having to hire an attorney for over $2,500.00, which I'm still paying off the loan for the attorney, and I ended up having to still pay the switch and bait price for the laminate floor even though the attorney charged Empire carpet with 21 counts of not being fair. The floor was supposed to cost me $1100.00. The final charge was $2600.00. I ended up paying $1300.00, plus the attorney fees.
They attorney didn't want to pursue the case and the case was dismissed. The attorney told me I had won my case, but I felt like I 'd gotten the bad end of the stick, because three different salesmen from Empire carpet came into my home and lied to me about the price of the job for the lainmate floor.
Because of Empire carpet, I'll Never trust salesmen in my home, ever AGAIN. Empire carpet has no RESPECT for the consumers or WOMEN that are head of their household. Thank you Empire carpet for teaching me never to trust home products salesmen in my home ever again.
BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! I called Empire Today on 5/20/2008 and spoke to a representative named William. I gave them my information and scheduled my appt. I then proceeded to ask him where the company was located cause I'd never heard of them or seen stores anywhere and he became very sarcastic and said we are a national company. That means we don't have retail stores. I then asked him if the representative that would come out to the house would have samples and if I would get a final quote at the end of the visit and he said very rudely WELL YES! That is why you have an appt. I then asked him why he was annoyed by my questions. I am wanting to know about the company and how it works. Is there something wrong with that? He said I don't understand why you are asking these unecessary questions. I then told him to cancel my appointment! If they are this rude on the phone I would hate to see someone like that in my home. After hanging up I decided to look up this company and found lots of complaints from other people. I AM MOST FORTUNATE NOT HAVE DONE BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!
I have to admit I was going to call both Empire Carpeting and National Floors Direct to replace the carpeting throughout my home, along with having laminate flooring installed by the front door and in the dining area...but after reading the complaints there is no way I will do business with either company.
I want to thank all the people who took the time out of their busy lives to write in about the truth of these two companies...I only hope the saying "wht goes around comes around" holds some truth to companies like Empire and National Floors Direct.
I'm taking my business to either Home Depot or Lowes.
overcharged
i had empire today install new carpet a few months back. the salesman measured the rooms and claimed i needed 160 yards of carpet. at a price of over $6000.00 .After feeling i got ripped off i checked the installers receipt and discovered they only installed 120 yards of carpet. after a few days of runaround the empire today salesman admitted the mistake and refunded me the overcharge. since then i have had carpet put in other parts of the house by other companies and they could have done the job empire today did for 2500.00 less. if you already used empire today check your work orders and look for any measument"mistakes" .i'm sure the salseman work on commission
I just purchased carpet from Empire-Today and verified work order. I was charged for 200 yards, but they only ordered 155 yards. Salesmen obviously knew that he was quoting us and charging us an inflated amount. They ended up needing 158 yards because the role they brought was only 150 yards, so the needed something 8 feet wide to finish the job. Either way, they're still charging over 25% more for goods and services they are not deliverying.
I will be calling customer service tomorrow to ask for credit refund of difference. wish me luck!
damage to home and then unresponsive to complaints
I had flooring from Empire installed in my house in October 2005. Biggest mistake of my life.
The first day they were there, not only did Empire not finish the job, but they tried to get my contractor and his employees who were there installing a new ceiling, to help them carry their materials upstairs and asked them to finish the job, rehang closet doors and put down the trim. Empire also did not dispose of the old carpeting as we had agreed.
I had my contractor dispose of the carpeting and when I called Empire to complain, I received a credit for that and they said they would send someone out the following day to finish the job that I was paying them to do. Big mistake once again. One of the 2 Empire installers used my bathroom w/o asking and backed up the toilet. I was sitting downstairs doing some work on the computer and water started pouring through the ceiling lights and the brand new ceiling that had just been installed a few days before. I ran upstairs and opened the bathroom door to find the woman trying to sop up the water with towels. She didn't call for help. She didn't turn off the water. Nothing. When I asked what happened, she said the tank started overflowing. This is virtually impossible and the plumber I called that day confirmed for me that there was nothing wrong with my toilet. Also, the other Empire installer she was working with claimed to be a plumber and gave me his number to call to come back and fix it. I was in shock to say the least.
Anyway, I spent about a year trying to get in touch with someone at Empire who could help m. Every time I spoke with customer Service I was transferred to someone's voicemail and never got a call back. When I finally did get in touch with someone who was helpful in the NJ installation office, she put me in touch with someone who could help, Sam, also located in the south Jersey installation office. After speaking with him several times, he told me he was going to contact the installers insurance company to resolve this matter. To the best of my knowledge this was never done. I have tried since to reach Sam and he has not returned my calls.
DO NOT USE EMPIRE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! I also found out later that Empire caused substantial damage to my neighbor's new drywall when carpeting was installed on her stairs.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
i live in NJ, i had and free in house estimate for carpet for my living room with 12 x 16 ft and they estimated about $1700 which includes $200 discount he told. he was not giving me the price of the carpet. he was telling me the total price including installation removing the existing carpet and disposing. the 60% discount mentioned on their website was only on 1 carpet which is worst. just before the guy came in i went to home depot and i had an estimation for the same for $550 and the carpet was far far better than the one empire today showed. i strongly suggest you guys not to prefer this F^(#!ing company. all the best...

I am tempted to agree. On a big job, the first crew was excellent. The second down right rude and abusive. When trying to handle the situation the next day, they were willing to put off fixing the problem. The cutomer service reps appeared to be there to annoy you into giving up.I finally reached the GM after approx 8 csa's. The only reason, I reached him was because I demanded it and fought hard.
No one should fight that hard to have a customer complaint handled. It seemed to me, that once the flooring was in, we did not matter. If you can, fight for your rights. Get the BBB involved. I feel for you.
bait and switch/terrible installation
We mistakenly called Empire Today to install new carpet in our 1800 sq ft home before we moved in. The installation must have been done by blind monkeys: there was no pad on the stairs, and at various places in the house, the carpet pulled up in the middle of the room, there were seams right in front of the front door, there were no Z-bars between bathroom...

I purchased Empire Floors for hardwood and carpet for my home.
After initial problems, (like the lead person talking on his cell phone all day about how there was a warrant out for his arrest), the hardwood floor was installed. It seemed fine. Then four months after the installation, the nightmare began. A toilet in the house malfunctioned and flooded most of the upstairs area and the hardwood floors had to be removed. Well...the hardwood floors was glued directly to the subfloor (Plywood) without any underpayment. Of course the hardwood floor would not come off easily and so the subfloor has to be removed where big pieces of the subflooring broke away.
What could have been an easy replace has been a construction issue and one that has to be figured out how best to replace the subflooring so the house does not become structurally weak and fall down!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I had Empire install carpeting in my dining room. Less than 1 month after installation the carpet started to unravel. It was also supposed to be stain resistant indoor/outdoor carpeting and yet it retains every single spot that ever gets on it. The sales rep seemed shady and spoke very little English. The installers spoke no English at all. I was told that the room had to be completely empty on the day of installation which I never heard of. For what I was charged, they should have just come in and done it all.
Ardith,
Thanks for the post. I recently received a quote ftom Lowe's and Empire and Empire's quote was much about $800 higher. The sales guy stated that Empire's floor is better, can be installed next day, etc. He was not the sharpest tool in the shed but I overlooked that. It was not sitting comfortable with me seeing that I knew more about installation than he did. He left the house and I called him the next day to say I was interested. On this second call, he mentions that he is not sure if the vinyl flooring needs to be removed and if so, it would be extra but we won't know until the installers arrive. He has been with Empire for 20 years and just doesn't know if it will need to be removed. I looked at the floor and I can tell it needs to be removed. Once again, this leaves a bad feeling in my gut. This post has just convinced me not to go with Empire. It is disturbing when the customer knows more than the salesperson. Once again, perhaps they are good with carpet but definately not hardwood floors.
Thanks!

poor service!
I, too, had a man from Empire Carpet come to my home to measure and give me a free estimate for new carpet in my basement/gameroom. After he measured the room, which is nearly 1/2 of my basement, he showed me some samples, sat down and wrote up some figures. He told me I have 115 square yards (which calculates to 1,035 square feet) to cover and the...

On 9/13/07, a Empire sale rep visited my newly purchased home in an effort to offer a free estimate in the hopes of possibly making a purchase. The rep, upon entering the home presented body language as if he knew he would not make a sale that day. And, why waste my time. I do believe he came to this conclusion based on the neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. ALSO, i FIRST TOLD HIM I WAS A RENTER. We began discussing what my needs were. He immediately told me, "we only have one type of wood-and it is the highest price", he went on further to say"laminate or carpet may be better as it is the least expensive". I questioned how much would the hard wood floor... cost. He then took i guess what was a measurement that arrived at 80sq. ft., and quoted a price at over $2500. He then went on to say well the traffic, and who would be walking on a daily basis-along with looking and judging my weight(180)might not be such a good purchase. At no time did he offer the pay later deal as advertised. I was told that my credit would be checked at the time of estimate-he did nothing. I believe he assumed my credit would not go through, although it is 725. BASICALLY IN A NUT SHELL THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY EXPERIENCE. SO PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE IN CERTAIN NEIGHBORHOODS. THEY WILL NOW OFFER THEIR FULL PROFESSIONALISM. THEY WILL JUDGE YOU BASED ON RACE AND LOCATION. THIS IS TRULY WHAT I FEEL HAPPENED IN THIS CASE. HE OFFERED HIS APOLOGIES, BUT FOR WHAT. HE COULD HAVE MADE A CASH SALE WITH THE CORRECT MEASUREMENTS...

Yikes! We have an in-home estimate scheduled for tonight! I wonder if we should cancel. I just want a price per square foot; I'm not interested in being pressured by a used car salesman. Maybe we should just see what Home Depot or Lowe's will quote.
Ok I am glad to have read all of this today. 2/10/08 and I think I will go with Home Depot!
The ads that Empire shows on TV seemed strange to me since they are so constant.
I just think I know why now ... they are a pressure cooker it seems. Such a sad company. Must be a real downer to work for them unless you are at the top of the food chain.
Empire is a rip-off. They sure do have no good, dishonest sales people. We had a free in home estimate for 2 bedrooms and a hall. The salesperson estimated that we need 480 sq foot of carpet. Good thing my husband know measurement because we only needed 350 square foot. Also he quoted us a price of $2700 dollars of prime (the best carpet they had) . I ask about the 2 rooms and 1 hall they advertise for $599.00. He informed us that this was the cheap carpet and he don't sell that.
When we informed him that $2700.00 was way over our budget for carpet he made a call to his so called manager, to see it we can get a better deal. Low and behold we can get the prime carpet for only $1750.00. And this was a one time right now deal. After we told him that we need to talk this over and get back to him the next day. Granted this was at 9:30 pm. On October 31, 2007. We with ahead and order the carpet.
Do you know the next day Empire was adverting 50% off all their carpet. When I contact the salesman about this advertisement I was informed that this price was only for the cheaper carpet.
How can they advertise only the cheap carpet and not the prime.
Even if we had purchase the carpet at the full price and gotten the 50% discount it still would've have been cheaper than the so call discount price that the salesman gave us.
EMPIRE IS A RIP-OFF. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

unauthorized charge!
This complaint is about a $50 service charge that Empire Today has attempted to collect from me for warranty work. While their customer service department has attempted to help and agrees that the charge was levied in error, the accounting department continues to ignore their communications, does not communicate with me, and has sent my balance to a collection agency. Empire alleges that when I called them to schedule warranty work (there is no dispute that the mini-blinds were still under warranty), they informed me that there would be a $50 service charge. I disagree. Furthermore, when the serviceman came to my home and repaired the blinds, he signed a "Certificate of Completion" that said I owed, $0.00. Lastly, I had warranty work done on the blinds a few months earlier, and the charge then was also $0.00.
I have now filed an official complaint with the New York State Consumer Protection board.
I had read of complaints about Empire, but did business with them anyway, because I was homebound for many months with sick infant twins, one on oxygen 24x7, and I needed a window covering for their room. I could not get out of the house to shop, nor could I install a product myself. In hindsight, I should have called some other shop-at-home, install-it-for-you company.

poor service!
Empire installed carpet in our home two years ago. We immediately noticed an inordinate amount of shedding, so we called Empire. They said that this was normal and that it would stop after a short time. The shedding continued - fuzz balls rolled up as we walked across the carpet and the vacuum cleaner got clogged every time we used it. So, we thought, maybe this vacuum is old, we'll buy a new one. So we bought a brand new Hoover. The problem continued. The vacuum clogged and stopped working every time we used it. We would lift it up off the floor and balls of carpet fuzz would fly out. We called Empire and they sent out one of their "inspectors" who submitted a report stating that there was nothing wrong with the carpet. So we took the vacuum back (JC Penney was very cooperative - thank you, JC Penney!) and we exchanged it for a more expensive Hoover. This didn't change a thing - same problem, same clog, same carpet fuzz balls. So we think, maybe it's the Hoover brand (not so, sorry Hoover) and we bought an Oreck vacuum. No change. At this point not only have we been vacuuming, but Stanley Steamer (good company!) has cleaned the carpet twice. So we call Empire again - again they send out an "inspector" who submits a report stating that there is nothing wrong with the carpet - it's just all the pet hair on the carpet that's the problem.
The pet hair is there because I can't vacuum my carpets! Dogs have lived in this house for 20 years and we have NEVER, EVER, EVER had this problem! I have spoken to Empire and they tell me there is nothing they can do - the "inspectors" report is the "final word." They simply don't care that they have installed an inferior carpet - they got their money and that's obviously all they care about. "Customer satisfaction" my eye.
Well kids it's been over 24 hours and I haven't heard a peep from the very concerned folks at Empire Today. Perhaps if they were sending real comments instead of computer generated ones I would have heard something...

bad job and horrible customer service
My parents were looking into changing the carpet in our home to wood. So I was doing a bit of research for them and had different contractors come and give us and estimate for the job. My dad one day so Empire Today Commercial on TV and decided lets give them a call and get a free estimate. So I called Empire up and they sent a representative out that day. So I was thinking wow they have great service. The rep comes and at first is so nice shows us different options, measures the house, plays with our dog etc. So now he gives me a price and it was a lot higher then the other estimates that we received. But he assured us that it is well worth the money because 1.) the material is the best you can get 2.) they only used licensed workers and not subcontractors but EMPIRE licensed workers. So ok, I was thinking that sounds good. Instead of having amateurs come I have licensed workers from Empire. Plus he tells me it will be done in a few hrs, oppose to everyone else saying its a 2 day job. The 2 workers get to my home around 9:00 - 9:30 not in Empire Uniform but in pants and one guy was wearing just shorts. I was like are you guys from Empire? They say yes, so i asked aren't you a sub contractor. He says yes. We don't work for Empire directly we do jobs for them. So im thinking thats exactly why I didn't go with other companies. So they cheated me already but since they already arrived and I moved my furniture I was like lets see the job they do. To make a long story short. They took forever ended at like 9:30 that night took a whole day not a few hrs. Made a huge mess. Did a horrible amateur job. Left with things undone. Jobs already horrible and on top left out the little things. Job is like 90% done. So I call my sales guy and hes like oh what can I do just call customer service and take it up with them. There is nothing i can do. Then I filed multiple complaints on the phone and emailed them. Not a single call or email back. Been 2 months since. What do I do now?

Enough is enough ... someone has to put a stop to Empire-Today's madness.
Everything written here is true.
Empire-Today sells low quality carpet for upper range pricing.
Empire-Today uses very low criteria for hiring installers.
Empire-Today's Sales Reps will tell their customers virtually anything to get a sale.
Empire-Today's Sales Reps are not employees, they are independent corporations. The result is that Empire-Today isn't legally liable for any promise that a rep makes to a customer. Also, the rep has no liability either, that's why they are required to be corporations.
Empire-Today's Sales Reps are paid a sliding scale commission. They make very little commission on each sale, unless they are able to get the customer to pay 30-50% more than they would typically pay elsewhere for carpeting of comparable quality. In that case, they make a very high commission.
Empire-Today's NEXT-DAY installation is designed to get the flooring installed as quickly as possible. That way they keep the customer from going to a competitor and discovering how over-priced they are.
Empire-Today's 50-60% sales are only on 2 styles of carpeting, both of which will be priced higher on sale than anywhere else at retail.
Empire-Today's Sales Reps will tell a prospect various stories about what's on sale and what's not on sale, depending on how they think they can manipulate the customer.
Empire-Today prays on people who would rather stay at home than go shopping themselves.
Empire-Today's warranties are written so that they are virtually non-enforceable. Read them carefully and you will see for yourself.
Empire-Today monitors all these sites and will do anything possible to remove responses like mine.
Come on people ... use your heads. Shop somewhere reputable ! ! !
Good luck
