negligence on billing and applying payments correctly
Account #[protected] I am a retired accountant on SS.
Deposit agreement $100 up front $58 due 12/18 and $58 due 1/18/17
Paid $100 Paid 1st months bill plus service charge of $74.68
On 12/17, I paid 59.47 when I should have paid only 58.00 the 59.47 was due on the 27th. I checked the web site account on 12/20/16 and I agree with what it says and I will get a print out if needed. It states $116 still due and it further states clearly only part of that was due 12/27. THE NEXT DAY THEY SHUT POWER OFF ? AND to make things worse they are charging another $17 for a reconnect that should never have happened.
The deposit was estimated to high $216 is equivalent to 3 1/2 months bills, I read it was to be 2 months, and I am a senior who makes freaking $9, 000 a year, GIVE ME A BREAK
customer service / billing
poor customer service took 3 calls to get a rep. no resolve of issue.
the web sight is impossible to navigate. i talked to a fpl tech could not figure it out.
2 twice since i changed billing information, almost got a late payment.
one because they wanted to put 58 cents owe on next month bill and than charge late fee and i ended up with bank fe as well
found out i wasnt on auto pay set it up. re checked it found i need to pay this month's bills. took and hour on the phone, finally getting a rep.
almost had another late payment.
malicious intent / november, 17 2016
I called into FPL and spoke with a rep regarding a payment extension on my business account. After the rep took my information and reviewed the account she determined that I was not eligible to receive an extension. She offered to lower my payment due by $50, which would be taken from my deposit. I thanked her but I requested to speak with a supervisor to see if they could help me resolve my problem. The rep ask me to wait while she place some notes into my account and she than transferred me to a lady who describe herself as Business Account Supervisor Michelle Delgado. I explained my situation to Ms. Delgado who verified my account and proceeded to review the account. She than said that my account was scheduled for disconnection on the 18th unless I make the payment of $270.41. I explained that I am unable to make the payment on the 18th but could she please extend it until next Tuesday or Wednesday. She respond no she can not extend the account because of previous unkept commitments. I explained to her that I made the previous payments in full after she continues to deny me an extension I asked her if she could give me the date of the last extension. Before I could finish talking she constantly interrupted and gave me an extension date back in May. I explained that we can sing together but not talk togetherand I didn't request an extension from May but the most recent request that's on the account. She than gave me the dates I think was October 21st and she no longer wanted to assist me. I explained to Ms. Delgado that I need the service to operate my business and that she is intentionally giving me a hard time and requested to speak with someone else she told me that she is the only supervisor in that department and she can not grant me no extension. I explained to Ms. Delgado that at least the rep prior to her granted to reduce my deposit In order to lower the bill and Ms. Delgado did not give me any option but insisted I pay the full bill of $270.41. I thanked her and ended the phone call. Less than 10 minutes later my lights was disconnected.
After recollecting the conversation with the Business Department Supervisor Ms. Delgado I remember her telling me that my bill was to be disconnected on the 18th. I was wondering why would she have the services disconnected. I decided to call back. I spoke with a nice gentleman and after verifying my account he looked into my options. I explained that I spoke with Ms. Delgado who told me that my services was going to be disconnected in the 18th instead the service was interrupted 10 minutes later. I also explained that I was due $50 from my deposit to help lower my bill and this should be reflecting in the system as such. After he reviewed the account he had to go in and grant me the reduce amount with interest (something that Business Supervisor Ms. Delgado could have done). He also granted to reconnect the service until the 18th (something that Business Supervisor Ms. Delgado could have done).
I am complaining that Ms. Delgado miluciously and intentionally tried to sabotage me, cost me more money, and hinder a process that could have been avoided. Now I don't want to be charged for disconnection of service due to Ms. Delgado's miluscious intent. My services should not have been disconnected less than 10 minutes after we discussed the account.
Good old FPL! Don't you just love them? They constantly are charging outrageous prices for service and give the customer a run around. They are notorious for this. I have had more trouble with FPL in the last 12 years then I can count. They do not realize that some times things are tough for people and we all need a break. God forbid they could find it in their hearts to help some of us in need. They deliberately and repeatedly raise our electric bills and then when you can't pay because you have lost a job or are having a hard time making ends meet, their solution is to just cut you off. The bogus names of supervisors are ridiculous. They are rude and very offensive. If you don't like your job, quit it and give it to some one who really wants to work and knows how to deal with people. Some of these people shouldn't even be working there. All I know is this..we do not treat our people up North where I come from. We still have compassion for people and it is against the state law to disconnect people on cold winter nights or hot summer days. But I guess FPL doesn't care if you are freezing or sweating. They are our for the almighty dollar. Now with all their utility poles and upgrades they are doing, now they are going to raise our rates even more! Give me a break! They stink.
bill from 8 years ago
I received a bill from FPL from 8 years ago for $800. I called to dispute the charges no one would talk to me. very time I called, they send me an email. They have been harassing me to pay now or disconnect. $800. This is while I am paying them their monthly payment of $130. I need to get an attorney. This is a rip off; FPL cannot treat customers like that! I cannot believe no one would call me back. Now when you call FPL, you can't get a customer service person on the phone. The automated service ask to call back later. Let me start reporting them to the attorney general... and see what happens. I am flabbergasted.
utility costs
FPL is running a TV advertisement promoting the idea FPL is doing everything possible to keep their customer's utility bills low while newscasts say FPL has all intentions to raise costs to their customers over the next four years. I believe that is quintessentially the definition of false advertising.
Not only does this smack of false and misleading advertising, but I suspect that this rate increase is in retaliation for FPL losing out on their scam Amendment 1 campaign.
Addiitonally, the Florida Public Service Commission more often than not rules AGAINST the public and favors big utilities. It's time that voters find another way to receive electricity in Florida. Perhaps the State of Florida take over all of the power utilities... or perhaps price controls...or even open the door for more competition?
I'm all for the capitalist system, but why give us a dollar and change rate reduction here and there only to boost our rates by $7 per month in January, 2017?
In North Miami, the city was against FPL installing ugly line monster poles (about 2-3 feed wide and about 30 feet tall) all along 135th Street and FPL basically told the city "we don't care, we're doing what we want"... and they did!
In private enterprise, the costs incurred in producing a product is called the cost of doing business. FPL passes on EVERY cost to us if its significant, but one day they'll likely be sending us an itemized bill for pencils, paper clips, pens, staples and toilet paper! [I hope this doesn't give them any ideas!]
Years ago, I knew someone who made out their payment to "Florida Plunder and Loot" and the check cleared! In the early 60s FPL's motto was "Live Better electrically". We ALL got suckered in by that one...
Consider this: The more FPL invests in clean energy, the less they will have to spend for consumable fossil and other fuels to generate power. Eventually these costs will be amortized, and their profit margin per kilowatt hour will increase exponentially. Will we reap any of the benefits? Want to buy the Brooklyn Bridge?
their contractor asplundh tree ruined my 65 ft tall palms
May 24th 2016 the tree service came to trim trees and told me they were going to trim the 2 palms out front wich they have been doing for years and today they left 1 palm fron on each tree(so sad) they were pretty just 3 hours ago I took pictures before they started and after. They are stupid and should not be allowed to trim trees. My advice is that if they want to trim your trees chase them away because FPL will not accept responsibility or the tree company.
They need to be replaced because they were not in the way of any power lines

payment method
FPL doesn't have a provision that would allow me to use Auto Pay by credit card. All the other companies I deal with on a monthly basis provide this service. Having auto payments come out of my checking account is not feasible since my balance varies from month to month. I am able to pay all my other monthly bills with just one payment to my credit card company each month because everybody else provides this service except FPL. I'm hoping that FPL will get up to speed soon so that I can pay my electric bill with Auto Pay using my credit card. If not, I'm seriously considering going off grid. I bet all solar companies have a provision for Auto Pay by credit card. I can't think of any other company out there that doesn't provide Auto Pay by credit card these days except FPL.
What one company provides has no bearing on another, and no two must do business the same way. Many do not offer credit card auto pay simply for the fact that the credit card fees charged to the business these days are ridiculous, and it is free to use the bank transfer. Plus, people always, always forget to change their card information in auto pay forms when their card expires, which causes a payment to be refused by the credit card, which causes you to get mad and blame the auto pay service.
online payment
After moving to Florida in September - I added my bank account to online FPL. I wanted to switch to another valid account that had funds on it later and every time I tried this, the payment was rejected due to "bank not found". After 6 months of this I got a letter from FPL stating that due to a "history" of nonpayment I could now only pay via money order or credit card with a $3.25 fee each month. I called the customer care number - no help at all. I wish I could give my business to someone else but I have no choice. Is this capitalism ?
newly installed light pole (ir)
Today, your workers finished installing an IR pole which is on my property and facing my residence. First of all, I resent not being notified that this was being done on my property. Second of all, I am appalled at the monstrosity that has been erected facing my home! I was told that this was to be a center of communication for any problems involved in the area. No one notified me of this as I mentioned earlier. It is not only a hideous object, it also presents a hazard to my home. We are in a storm area. I dread the thought of a forthcoming hurricane to hit this pole, thus causing irreparable damage to my home and my family! I am therefore requesting that you relocate this IR somewhere else, especially not in an immediate area, as this one is, to private residences. Obviously, little thought was given to these consequences.
I have heard that FLP has been negligent in responding to other complaints. I hope this is not the issue with mine! I am requesting an immediate rely to this complaint. If not, I plan to protest this to my representative in the Florida Legislature and perhaps the media.

I believe the homeowner has a valid point. I made it a point to look at the IR (Infrared) electrical pole that is the point of contention (Please See Attached Photo Below). It is definitely an eyesore, and aesthetically displeasing to such a beautiful residential neighborhood. Although there are benefits from an electric power standpoint with the placement of IR poles (e.g., in cases of power outages), the literature would demonstrate a host of 'negative' variables associated with the placement of these poles in residential areas, and especially those close to homes (health; noise; home value depreciation; increased fire hazard particularly during storms; other). The homeowner(s) should have been notified of the IR pole placement, particularly in lieu that the pole reportedly backs up to her property. As a homeowner, I would expect to be notified of such activity, and any permanent changes to the area surrounding my home. My question, as are other homeowners in the area, is directed toward FPL. "How will you address the homeowners valid concerns FPL?" -J.D.L. (Homeowner)
energy services
That is shameful greed showing the FPL executives, again trying to increase electricity tariffs, No competition!, There are Monopoly, in southern Florida. They try to spread publicity with arguments that their rates are low at the national level, but that is a lie, this misleading advertising goes against their actions in previous years when an average...

I enrolled in automatic bill pay when I opened the account because I was told that if I did not enroll, they would charge me a deposit of $331.00. Therefore, I enrolled in automatic bill pay and was still charged a deposit of $165.00. Well, I tolerated that because what choice did I have? Then six months into service, I asked for a payment extension, which FPL granted me, and which I paid on time. Well, right after paying for the payment on the extension, I received a notice telling me that because the payment was paid on an extension that I was going to now have to pay another deposit of an additional $165.00, bringing my total deposit to $330.00, the amount they wanted in the first place---and why? All because I asked for and was granted---by the way---a payment extension, which I did fulfill on time. What is going on at FPL? Are they so mean-spirited and greedy that they are determined to get people's money even when the people are good customers? I moved to Florida from Georgia where Georgia Power never treated me so badly. Of course, when I moved to Florida, many people told me that FPL was a mean-spirited, greedy, nasty utility company. I suppose the people were right!
service
I have been a customer since June 2005. I have never missed a payment in 11 years. I was about to prepare a valentines dinner for my family and no power in home. I was away for a few days getting cardiac care @ Cleveland clinic n caring for my service dog . I am shocked to say the least. No phone account nothing from FPL. I thought they were a good company. I have automatic debit and plenty cash in the checking account. I am so saddened by their actions towards me and my health. My credit is stellar in the 800. Why would they do this. And not contact me.
blackouts
I have never had so many power outages, and it's always my grid, (the guy across the street never loses his power? What is wrong with FPL, if you need to fix this grid, do it, I have never had such terrible service, from a utility. I live in Sebastian, Fl. I must have two to three power outages during the year, and when I call to find out what caused this outage, they say it's their equipment, that caused the failure. I never get compensated for their negligence. Now I ask you again, what in hell is wrong with you guys? Why can't you get it right? If not fire this crew, and get someone who understands that this grid is not operating correctly, and fix the grid for once and all, this is a very frustrating situation. If there was another power company, I would be with them for sure.
out of code backyard light installed in my neighbors yard which is causing a light nuisance for my family.
My neighbor at 2212 SW 60 CT requested from FPL the installation of a backyard light. The light bulb used by FPL far exceeds the candlelight regulations as per Florida Code. Initially complaint # SR15-[protected] was filed with Dade County code enforcement agent Mr. Gilbert Rosales, phone [protected] and email [protected]@miamidade.gov. Mr Rosales came to my property located at 6060 SW 22 ST and after doing the tests agreed with my assertion. As per Mr. Rosales the person from FPL solving this situation is Mr. Jose Wong, an FPL Technical Assist. To say the least, nothing has been done by FPL. The only reason why a fine has not been levied against FPL is because the County has no jurisdiction over FPL nor the work they do. To me is absurd to think that they broke all regulation when they did my neighbors installation and can actually get away with it. Please help.
unauthorized deposit requirement
I had filed bankruptcy and had to give up a real estate condo asset that had the fpl electric billing in my name to the trustee who in turn had fpl remove me from the account so he could pay the electric bill until sold. Well in turn fpl construed this bankruptcy to affect them and they closed out my primary residence account and made me pay a deposit...

My bill for November of 2013 showed a fuel cost as followes: Up to 1000kw 0.026330 Over 1000kw 0.036330 That was when cost of fuel was high My November of 2015 bill showed: Up to 1000kw 0.028020 Over 1000kw 0.038020 The current charges are more than they were two years ago. Fuel has drastically declined in cost. Why don't the fuel charges follow suit?
joke of all electric companies.
I have lived in three different states and this by far is the most ridiculous, difficult yet humorous electric company I have ever dealt with. You have to laugh because it's just sad. The whole deposit of 300.00...just to activate my electric unless you do epay, which when you do epay or electronic bank payments, the day you authorize them to make payment...

From July 2nd 2015 to August 4th 2015 33 days of service my bill was 200 $22.84 upon getting service with Fpl 2 years ago my deposit was two hundred and eighty - five dollars and one cent. I phoned FP&L on August 4th to have service disconnected that day they billed me for another month for 120 $4.89 for one day I asked them if they were building a month in advance or what because service was not supposed to be from August 5th 2015 to September 2015 because the service was disconnected on August for 2015 I inquire about my deposit and they claim that I owe them new charges of $120 for service for one day something really needs to be done about these people they are ripping people off for their deposit this is the second incident that I've had with Fpl ripping me off for my deposit and I would definitely like to take a class action suit against FP&L for ripping people off my sincerest thanks Nina Everett
bill increases
As a customer trying to make ends meet and a power company making every effort to derail me from making those ends meet I find it a spit to the face when you have to pay an increase on something you have no control over. For the amount of power I use which amounts to under $10.00 a month you would think that i would get deals or a break of some sort> Not with FPL not only do they not give a customer like my power saving self no deals but they found a way to raise the surcharge on my NON-FUEL portion on my bill. I called (hahaha) customer service to get the costumer resolution line and was told by a Ms. Finley that there was no existence of such a number. How strange I thought, , , , made no sense to me why that would be when but a few months prior there were and with several extensions. I found it hard to believe that I as a customer who doesn't feel the need to waste power when I'M not home, stay at a consistent far below average usage rate should have to (without explanation) pay an increase on a charge that in my case should be lowered. For $7.57 of power I use i have to pay nearly $50 just to get it to me? That crap is unacceptable so much so in fact I am going to post this weekly.
deposit ripoff
Tired of this monopoly by FPL. I was unfortunately to have a tenant that rig the electric meter on my property but we were able to get him and the police arrested him and charged him with a felony. I had to get a permit from an electrical engineer and a inspection from the city. Fortunately everything passed, now I have a new tenant and they are asking for $1000.00 deposit fee for a full year? Talked to a supervisor and everything and they are don't want to take it out. The electric bill was under the tenants name and they are going to court to pay for the electricity they stole but how I am liable for what a tenant did? If anyone has experience something similar that can advise me of what is the best steps to take. Thank you in advance.
