My tax professional for best of both did not do her job she did not put my refund on the right account she did not change my address as I asked her to do which I have proof an email my refund was supposed to be issued to my bank on June 2nd but wherever it was issued it was sent back to IRS supposedly on June 3rd it is now January 6th and with all the crap I've had to deal with I still do not have my refund two days before Christmas I got a check in the mail $1, 000 less than what it's supposed to be well I go to cash the check and the check is bad now for 2 weeks I have been on the phone non-stop online non stop at office is non stop missing work with no electricity in my house because of this issue and I've still yet to get a straight answer or to have any money in my hand which is my money that they're drawing interest on I had to do a refund Trace through IRS and H&R Block I had to also change my address numerous times through the post office IRS and H&R Block made numerous complaints about my tax professional Galen Woodridge I do not recommend her for her to all the sudden just stopped answering my emails at all finally I get my change of address to do my refund Trace through H&R Block bofi Federal bank and the IRS I get the check in the mail and the check verification ID is not valid they can't find the check number they can't find even the checking account that it came from so after going to multiple offices to get there and they're closed by customer service Representatives or supervisors 6 cases opened on my situation and no supervisors call me back I finally get an email from one of them saying to go to the H&R Block nearest me and fill out a client check replacement form and fax it in and I should have my money the same day on my Emerald Card well four days later I've done what they told me too I still have no money they still did not tell me anything they tell me their systems are down or they will make me wait on hold for an hour and then they hang up on me they can't give me any information I've explained my situation to at least three dozen people I've even spoke to supervisors finally one called me back this morning and says no you can't fix that you have to we have to have that actual check in hand so she proceeded to give me the address and the address of the Kansas City address which I live in Kansas City so I tell her it will why can't I just bring it to you I really don't want to release his check out of my hand and took me six months to get it I just need my money which is my money not your money my money she said oh no it has to come through the pill box so I've go to the post office I paid $22 to have the best postal service areas and make sure that it gets there and somebody signs for it so needless to say I do not have my check in hand I did every things that they have told me to do plus their job and now I've had to send my check off to them so who knows if I will ever even get my money this is 2015 tax return return I've been doing my taxes through H&R Block for the last seven years and the service customer service their whole system is pretty much messed up so sitting here and Kansas City was snow on the ground and no electricity and no money and no answers I really don't know what to do now it's very aggravating and stressful and it's caused a lot of issues I was getting an apartment but I went and applied for when I first got my tax refund I put the deposit down on it and as soon as I got my refund which was supposed to be June 2nd then I would pay my first last month's rent and move in well I've lost my $695 deposit because I didn't have the money to move in and they are not entitled to give you your deposit back and they do not care of your situation so I'm still sitting in this house that I've been trying to move out of now has no electricity not to mention it was the other and the time that I've taken off work to deal with this issue now an extra $20 to pay for Express mail I'm starting to think that then drawing interest off of me is their plan and see how much more money it can cost me is it even been worth 6 months 7 months of stress now
not being refunded for services not provided
I filed my taxes at the washington branch in holland mi I have been with h and r block since I was 15 and this past year I got a letter my taxes wrongfully taken I got my taxes back thanks to a lawyer I hired but now h and r won't do me right and refund my money back on the service I never got I want the refund for my state taxes that where never put on my emerald card.
Go ahead be funny cause already talked to a lawyer your company is in For it and I am also getting involved in the class action lawsuit so thank you for being rude and disrespectful I have your ip address And More information I Will be giving To the lawyer
I got my state taxes back through my lawyer now I want my refund from H&R Block for not uploading my state taxes on my Emerald Card you failed to do it you should not be charging me for the services I got my money from the state through a lawyer again it took me 8 months to get my money and H&R Block give me the runaround I want my refund what you're doing is illegal
Well, again, Wine Is Good and Tabitha, regardless of how she misspells or sounds like 15, she is 100% right on the money. And your treatment of her sickeningly reminds me of why I left. One of the many reasons anyway. She is right. You really shouldn't have to pay for Peace of Mind. That's a silent implicit affirmation that not only did you make a mistake, but you're so untrustworthy that you need to pay this insurance. That, mind you, the receivers go out of their WAY to destroy and not fulfill the obligation that hard earned money bought them. I witnessed it first hand. I don't know, nor care, why you left, but I left because I couldn't take such flagrant, even hostile disrespect and abuse towards customers who paid an arm and 2 legs to get it done somewhere even less, maybe for free, and with way better competency and CUSTOMER SERVICE!
poor dvd installation
I have used hrblock for several years but this year I received a DVD that won't work on my computer because the resolution is wrong but it won't tell me what resolution to use. Then when I decided to download from the web I found out that they charge extra for downloading a 2nd time in case something happens that destroys my 2016 on my computer. So I really don't want to download online but I can't get my DVD to install.
Sorry to hear that. If you were to come in to the store, that DVD and other upgrades you bought wouldn't matter jack. We'd charge you as if you're a new customer. Full price. That one also almost made me throw up as well. Thank God I had the admin password to make it free. The guy paid $400 of that crap to begin with! And all it was, was a submission issue. Hopefully, you'll use TurboTax, do it yourself, or use a free tax prep service, VITA, the IRS offers.
ripoff
I think my wife and I are going to be finding a new company to do our taxes. We've been going to HR Block for years and we spend over $400 every time which is fine. However, I went into an H&R Block office today because i needed a copy my 2015 tax return to send to the government so I went into an HR Block office and she charged me 20 dollars for a reprint that took 5 minutes. In the past if i ever needed a reprint it was done with a smile and for free. This representative Geovanna Ochoa ID 643811 seemed annoyed and on top of that charged me $20. You can thank her for losing our business.
Matt, at risk of being rude, you weren't behaving like your last name. At least better late than never. This was a microcosm of what I experienced. They're trained in this. To get people like you. The benefit from you is that you woke up. A bit late, and money in their coffers, but you woke up. Now, use TurboTax or some other firm NOT Jackson Hewitt or Liberty Tax Services. Good luck to you.
wait time
I came to the Hr block in Matteson IL and they have only one person working in the office period! No one to help answer the phone or help with anything! I literally sat there for two hrs and waited with several other while one worker did tests, answered phones and everything else. Its obviously not her fault but very irresponsible of the company! I am seriously thinking about not even coming back to HR block at all!
Yeah. The secretaries were crap too when I was there. Sometimes I had to do it, and I was only supposed to do taxes! And get harassed for it by the senior people. Don't come back. Don't go to Jackson Hewitt or Liberty Tax Services. They're H&R Block Lite. Do, either do TurboTax or IRS sponsored initiative, VITA. Look it up. Hope it helps.
horrible customer service
I've used H&R Block for 12 years, always filing my taxes online. I just went to start my taxes for 2016 and went to review my taxes for 2015 and noticed a little box on my form that stated my taxes were not e-filed. I called them and started a file, but they told me to call the IRS to double check that they did not receive them. I called the IRS and they had received my extension with my tax payment but never my return. So I called H&R Block back and gave them my claim number, I talked to Andrew in the call center. He was so rude and condescending, spoke to me like I was a 3 year old and not a 42 year old woman. I informed Andrew to put into my notes that I would never use them again because of the way he talked to me. Not that there was a mix up with my taxes, but because he went out of his way to make me feel stupid. And after debating with him for a few minutes he made sure to tell me that all the problems I was having were my fault and if I had paid attention then I wouldn't be calling, like a 3 year old! Thank you Andrew for making my day worse!
not honoring their promises
I filed my 2014 return in one of H&R blocks offices at Bonita Spring Florida. The agent charged me 500 dollars plus 35 dollars for so called Peace of mind insurance. She efiled my return and it was rejected later that day, but she never found out or informed me. 8 month later I received a bill form IRS including 1500 penalty plus interests and other taxes that my agent at H&R failed to calculate. I thought my Peace Of Mind insurance would cover all of it but now after almost a year I've figured out that H&R doesn't honor its promise. They refunded the penalty after visiting their offices 100 times but not the interest or the $500 I paid to file. I always done my return myself and never had any problem what so ever. Only one time I trusted H&R, because of a long trip to Europe, and it was my worse return experience. My advice to you, Do it yourself.
taxes
They did my 2015 taxes, and I got $4200 back. Then 3 months after found out I was being audited, then shortly after was told I couldn't claim my child because I paid support for her in the tax year. I'm pretty sure this is something that should've been obvious to a professional tax company. Now the government wants HALF my return back ($2100), because H&R messed up! After arguing on the phone with them, they still won't pay for their mistake and say it's my responsibility to do so. How's that fair for me? That's what's why I paid H&R to do my my taxes so this wouldn't happen!
The best they offered me was to do my next years taxes for free, you really think I'm going to go back? I don't think so!
Wow! That's something I didn't know. Apparently it's opposite in the great, Mapley country of Canada, of which I wish to move to ASAP. Paying support for your child means you can't claim them. Doesn't sound right. But I'm not well versed in Canadian tax. But yeah, at least you didn't buy Peace of Mind. It wouldn't have gotten anywhere. The workers and managers would make sure of that. I can attest to that, regretfully. Hopefully, you can either go somewhere else or do them yourself.
it appears that you don't stand behind your product-here is your chance to convince me otherwise
I am going to make this a very condensed version of my experience with h and r block.
You have been preparing my taxes for much of my adult life.
In 2014 you did them, I sent the irs my check and I thought all was well. I paid for them to be electronically submitted and for the piece of mind policy.
This year, about 4 months ago (2016) I started getting letters from the irs saying I had a bill for almost $8000 in penalties and interest for taxes that had not been submitted for 2014. After doing some digging I found out that the feds have my money, but no tax return to attached it to...
So I go in to my local h and r block for assistance. After looking at paperwork together the staff at hrb agreed the return had not been filed even though I had paid for you to do so and that the penalties and interest bill was yours to deal with per my purchase of the pom policy. Great.
Well, really, not so great. Your staff has not taken ownership of this and the manager in particular has been incredibly callous. I have been getting letters from the irs on a regular basis that have grown more aggressive. No word from hrb unless I called the office, only to be told not to worry; ignore the letters; that "you" had it under control. Please understand that this is a scary experience for any taxpayer. We are humans!
Today I got a certified letter from irs telling me that if the remaining bill is not paid by end of year, they will put a lien and begin seizing my assets.
So if you really look at these complaints you will have to call me and find out what is happening, then do the right thing.
Just know, it isn't good and I am not planning to let it go if the issue is not resolved as if you do care.
Best, carolyn
Carolyn, a news flash for you. Backed by a thankfully ex-employee: Don't hold your breath. You're like an ant they won't care about if they squash. You're that insignificant. That being said, I do fully support whatever actions you're going to do, and I hope they have a measurable impact down the road. Godspeed and learn from this. Get your taxes done somewhere not Jackson Hewitt or Liberty Tax Services related.
emerald advance
I have been a client with h&r block for may years. Every year I go and get my emerald advance to help with Christmas gifts for family and friends. So this year was no different. I went Saturday Nov 19, 2016. All to find out I was denied for the first time ever. It wasn't because of credit. It was because I didn't meet the projected income eligibility requirement. Meaning apparently I'm at a seasonal job or something. Maybe they can read my future and decide I'm getting fires or something.so I wouldn't be able to pay back the loan. (Is what the automotive system told me). I was like really?!? I have had the same job for 8 years and don't plan on leaving my company anytime soon. I have paid more taxes this year then last and I have even made more money. Obviously there had to be a mistake made some where. So called the main Office and of course there decision is final and can't be over turned. I do some Google research and find out I'm also pre-qualify at other tax offices. Thank you h&r block for having me go else where for my tax needs. You have lost a client that has faithfully done taxes with you every year. Going elsewhere for now on.
Mmmf. This is both what I dreaded and so much more thankful why I left. I don't feel like doing the internet research on it, but I remember my revolving door boss tell me that H&R Block was prevented from doing that, because it was run like a loan shark business, about 5 years ago. When they sold their bank about a year or two ago, I had a sinking feeling that they were going to get into the loan business again, predatorily speaking, like the cutthroat payday loan shark places. Turns out I was right. The ones who aren't getting accepted? Just be glad it was only a hit to your credit score and not your pocketbook. I don't feel like looking it up, but I believe that you have to be working or have some kind of income coming in, it has to be on a Emerald Card, and that has to be your only source of banking, as in, no bank account. The APR is 37%, late fees and transaction fees are $50 a piece, and it all has to be paid off by February of the next year, or you can't use it anymore. There's also a horror story, becoming more frequent, that Block just freezes the Card for petty reasons and won't reinstate it quick enough. Knowing that work checks and otrher finances are on it, in effect preventing them from getting their money. Be glad. Take this as a sign. Which you did.
unethical behavior from marion tolliver, tax preparer
In march of 2016 I took our taxes in. Marion tolliver, pickerington, ohio completed them. My husband has been a columbus fire fighter for over 20 years. We have never claimed meals. Mr. Tolliver claimed over $3, 367.00 in fire fighter meals on our taxes. He never asked me for any receipts or amount my husband spends on meals. He also never mentioned this claim.
The prior year on our 2014 taxes (Independent preparer) we claimed injury leave due to burns that my husband sustained in a fire. That amount was $3, 369.00.
If you notice there is only a $2.00 difference in the amount listed. Your company said they will cover tax and penalties
I disagree. They need to cover the entire amount of $1023.91. I have no idea where he got this information from. My husband works every 3rd day, 24hours. They put $10.00 into a "kitty" for lunch and dinner. The average amount he would spend in a year would be approximately $1100.00.
Your employee blatantly falsified our taxes.
No, I did not pay for "peace of mind". I was told by many people that h&r block are professional, trustworthy... I'm sorry, I disagree. I have been sent from one person to another trying to close this whole thing. Everyone I have spoke with, penelope love, shera skaggs, all said I had a case and mr. Tolliver was wrong in doing what he did.
Your company is hiding behind words of "peace of mind". I am not the one who lied or with held information. I can't with hold anything when i'm not asked about specifics, such like meals.
I hope we can finalize this soon. I sent a letter out today with a copy of the irs paper.
Sorry to hear that you went through that. Those people who told you that weren't looking out for your best interests, or got blinded by Block. WHy class actions aren't going forward and nearly putting them out of business is beyond me. If enough of them happen, it may actually make them reputable again. Though I'm a once bitten, twice shy kind of guy. You don't get a second chance to fool me again like the first time. Hopefully you'll either prepare your taxes yourself, find a program or person to prepare them for you at a reasonable price, or go to a free tax clinic, who actually has better trained people than H&R Block.
taxes
I went in february 13, 16. Too fill my taxes and Dawn Rogers make 2 mistakes, she put the wrong account number and then in my address she never put my apt num. They send my the money on 26 oct but because if the apt error i never received my money and now they are telling me, that i have too wait 60 more days because of their error, i dont think soo lawyer time, please... dont ever go that place please.
I really wish a lawyer would work. Because it's unfathomable the kinds of acts they get away with on numerous complaint boards, yet little to nothing is done. I bet you rent money that this Dawn "person" probably got the lowest score imaginable to pass to do taxes. That's what they were doing when I was there. In the FAQs, when one read through all of them relating to the drastic decrease of tax quiz competency, senior (In both age and company affiliation) and stellar employees were to be replaced with more of these people for economic reasons. There, you get what you pay for, as incompetence runs wild and amok. Worse yet, it's encouraged. I hope you're going somewhere else, ideally somewhere where taxes can be done for little money to pay or free. Good luck to you for this year.
tax services, still waiting for results
My mother has brain cancer and we filed an extension with HR Block in May 2016 for a July extension. We contacted them in July to find out the status and found the local office in Bunnell, Fl was closed. So, we were referred to the main office in the area; So Daytona. James Hartley stated our original rep, Marilyn Combee was on hiatus and that he would find out where in the process my mother's return was. After several calls back and forth, he then failed to return several calls. Next, we went to the manager of that area office. Lori Smith stated she would help us and that "your mother doesn't owe anything." If they knew that, then why can't we get any information? We were then told that perhaps her information was in storage. We have tried to reach Lori unsuccessfully on several occasions after our initial call. Here we are coming into November and we still have no information as to whether or not the return has been filed, what my mother's status is and we are going to need to file for 2016 soon! What is going on?!
Never occurred to you to call the IRS themselves?
Wow. You're here again. I'll be short. I remember my boss saying that IRS was so short staffed, even if you were waiting hours, they would cut you off, effectively wasting all those hours waited. So she may have had a 1/8th chance or less to reach them. And that's if she just stopped life and became a hermit JUST to reach the IRS. Just as heartless and blindly pro-Block as the others I'm simultaneous repulsed by and pity. Oh, and people like you and those that work at Block showing that kind of crass and callousness Not just me, but others would call them Blockheads. Quite fitting considering your responses here, with lack of empathy.
incomplete tax file
I filed my tax return for 2016 from h&r block. The file was completed on february 10th 2016 by charles brett. Along with filing my tax return, I had applied for itin for my wife as well.
Office address – 735 sw 185th, aloha, or, 97006
In may, I received a letter from irs stating that there were some mistakes in the itin application form for my wife and they have rejected the application. Also, since the itin got rejected, I received $600 less refund from irs.
I called h$r block office immediately and they gave an appointment to fix the issue and reapply for the itin. Next day I visited their office (10477 sw beaverton hillsdale hwy, beaverton, or [protected]) but the tax preparer told me that she would not be able to sign the itin application since she does not have the authority. I will have to go another day when proper authorized person will be present who can sign the itin form.
So far I have visited their office four times and no progress made till date. Neither the itin application has been sent nor has the amendment for $600 been filed. Also, I am not being able to send my state tax file since I have not received my wife's itin yet.
Whenever I am calling their office, every time they are saying that they will call me back but I never received a call.
These people say that they will guarantee of the maximum refund and accurate filing but I see that they do not have that much expertise. Also, they are very unprofessional.
Worst experience!
Another one who represents 100% what I went through. Yeah, those employees who try and think of the client as a being to take care of and use all resources at their disposal to help will be harassed till they are rid of them, like with me and a few others, who I still have contact with. They got what they wanted from you, now they'll do these two things: 1, give you a runaround until you come back and file again, and 2. Find extra ways to fleece you of your hard earned money and get you in MORE trouble with the IRS. My ex-co-workers there would be petty like that. All it took to earn their ire would be just to call and ask what you're asking. Beyond just ITIN. Anything. And POW! Suddenly, they're manipulating taxes before they're sent.
By the way, people don't know this, but we don't REALLY send taxes. They're on hold until you leave. After that, we send them. Irrelevant if you pay, even. We're supposed to say it was sent, send you on your way, then close to closing, that's when we'd send them.
It'd be for reasons as stupid as "Well, IRS isn't going to look at taxes or send refunds until either XX Date or XX weeks from now, so why send it now?" So in the front, the taxpayer sees return sent, in the back, where the computer is for actually fully sending it, it's where it's waiting. Where ALL adjustments can happen. A few people were made to have to fill out sheets for EIC Rejection. Though when it happened to them, very few came back. It didn't matter to them: their petty, Troll like grudge was settled. And they bragged and took great glee in it. In parting, I'd say use someone else cheaper, who's more empathetic towards you, use a tax program, or a tax free clinic, like VITA. I wish good blessings for the new year for you.
tax service
H & R Block Tax service filed an incorrect return to the IRS and Colorado Department of Revenue For Tax year 2015 for my nephew. When I called it to their attention, they had to file an amended return. The State of Colorado needed additional tax dollars and a penalty was assessed. The office at 4880 W. 120th Ave., Westminster, Co. then wanted me to provide all of the information that they filed. This information should have been in their records. They also wanted us to pay the penalty to the State of Colorado and then file a claim with H & R Block and in Mr. Emerson Ball's words, "see if it would be reimbursed". I have say that anyone that wants to use H&R Block for tax preparation needs to check out other preparation companies.
I fully agree. I'm disheartened that you went through the textbook situation I had to face numerous times in there. They punish whistleblowers almost Snowden like. That's why there's high turnover. Well, one of the big reasons why. And corrupt, sleazy acts like this happen. I hope you're checking out VITA free tax clinic sponsored by the IRS or using a reputable online tax program. Have a great new year despite this.
tax prep
I will try to be brief. I relocated to Michigan for a new job in 2012. I had my taxes filed by Rob Mull at H&R Block's 338 E Lewis, Milan, MI 48160 location. He was recommended to me by family. He successfully filed my 2012 taxes. The issue that I am contacting you about started with my 2013 taxes. I will be upfront. I did not purchase the "Peace of Mind"...

Filed federal taxes and state taxes (Dc, va and md) with h&r block for year 2015. [married filing joint]
Location: address: 2607 columbia pike, arlington, va 22204
Phone: [protected]
Prepared by danitza loya, senior tax advisor 5, h&r block, ptin: p00275140
The tax prepare called multiple times to verify part year status, was provided with all the documentations asked, and assured that the taxes will be filed separately. Me and my wife received a 10, 000 $ tax notice from dc, as the prepare "forgot" to check "filing jointly box". The tax notice has resulted in loss of credit score (806-680) , loss of opportunity to refinance primary residence with monthly loss of 200$ for next 1-2 years, 3000$ expenses in visa filings due to late applications, significant mental anguish. Very poor communication. Do not file with h&r, they are unprofessional.
I have also used Danitza Loya's tax preparing services recently and received multiple letters from the IRS stating that she had made errors and, as a result, I owed more taxes. Upon meeting her, she racial profiled me and refused to speak to me in my language of preference. Then she argued with me when I pointed out that she had misspelled my name wrong on the return and had incorrectly entered information from my W2s into the tax preparation software. Also, she did not explain anything that she was doing, was very confrontational, and conveniently out of the office every time I came in to discuss the IRS letters I had received. She is wholly unprofessional and her services are grossly overpriced considering her inaccuracy and incompetency. In short, I do not recommend her services to anyone EVER.
It's very unfortunate that you had to find out that way and the destruction it caused you, albeit, hopefully, temporary. Yeah, if I remember correctly, Senior Tax Advisor 5 is the highest you can get. But I was the lowest you could get since I was a new hire, and people, when just doing taxes there PROPERLY, wanted me rather than them. Which gave the employees there another reason to hate and pick on me. Hopefully you're using either a tax program or found someone who charges a reasonable price.
poor quality of work and lack of communication...
Went in on April 5th 2016 to do my taxes...We agreed to pay with refund. I had also asked for some extra adjustments for previous years. They have been holding my 2015 taxes until my [protected] returns have been adjusted... There is a $20 difference in which I would have to pay hr to get my wife and I taxes submitted... The agent said I wanted her to hold off until the previous returns have been updated...This is not true...Why would I hold up receiving child tax credit when I know it could take 3-4 months to get the previous years sorted out?
And hr block claiming to be tax specialists..This is a joke...If they were as good as they say I wouldn't have to be going back 5 years to claim my portion of benefits that I have paid...Do they know taxes or just how to enter numbers...?
there has been almost no contact from them to me unless I called them multiple times... The settler Alberta h&r block is a joke... I will not be returning... I would rather pay the extra $ to have a real professional do my taxes... And actually know what they are doing... When you do business you pay for work to be done correctly and promptly... Neither of these are being offered to me but yet I still have to pay...
I hope this isn't going to be offensive to you, but all I needed to read was the title. The compensation structure pretty much rewards those who are weaselly with their ethics, such as screwing it up on purpose to save time, but bilk as much money out of you as quickly as possible. Rinse, lather, repeat as quickly as possible. I really hope you're going either somewhere different or using a tax program or VITA, IRS sponsored tax site done free, if you meet at least the most public scope: $20, 000 single filing status, $50, 000 all others. Hope this helps. Don't be a victim again.
bad customer service and lies about getting straight away. after getting it done they told me 21 days
My best friend is in hospital and got cancer and he is not very well. I wanted go see him in hospital before he passed away. I called H and R block Chirnside Park and asked them if they did tax return straight away and I will get my money. The lady said yes so I want and got my tax return done. After finishing my tax return the guy told me 21 days. I have already contacted radio station and some TV channels about this matter. This is not the right way of doing things. If my friend passes away I'm going to take this matter to the court. I called the manager at Chirnside Park Victoria so many times to return my phone call and she hasn't. It's not very professional at all. I'm contacting the ACCC Australia for more complaints and how I was treated.
First off, no company has anything to do with your friend having cancer and whether he will die from it. Second, H&R Block only files your taxes. They do not control the IRS. The instant refund only applies to tax payers who the IRS does not flag. There is no way for them to know ahead of time if the IRS is going to need to hold the return. That is between you and the IRS.
Except for your first sentence, the rest, which I have a strong suspicion will be as rare as double rainbows, I agree with. Block doesn't control the IRS and we were to tell people about 21 days as cushion for us so there wouldn't be unnecessary complaints and hostile visits saying we want our money. Where is it? charged by irs for mistake made by block employee-not my mistake!
I had my taxes done by block north little rock arkansas 4/7/2015 as I usually do and later get a letter from the irs saying I owe them nearly 1500.00 for 2014 taxes. Well this can't be right because block did my taxes? I go to them to get the matter taken care of and am told because I didn't sign the peace of mind paper they can't do anything. I didn't sign it because they gave me a paper stating that they stand behind their work and guarantee their products and services. The employee did not include my social security on my taxes. I was filing three things that day: my father's death insurance, my pension and my social security. If I had not given the proper papers, or gave the wrong information, or had not come in with the papers, I could understand. However, I had given this (Person) everything she needed to take care of my taxes plus fees and now, block tells me they can't help or won't help by refunding me my 1500.00 and firing the employee. They attempted to send me my fees and my interest to make them feel better! Shame on you block! This is how you treat a customer and a former block employee! Shame on you! If 1500.00 is going to bankrupt you then "please" go out of business! Mary thrower
Mary Thrower. Sorry this happened to you, but you signed that return. Therefore it's your responsibility to question everything about it. It's very evident whether or not Social Security income is entered on a return. You also refused to get the Peace of Mind which would have covered that 1500 to the IRS. It's only 40 bucks, and you refused, again that's on you and not them. They also tried to make you whole by doing what they could by refunding your tax prep fees. But you wanted someone fired because they made a mistake? Wow, you are just the worst kind of person, aren't you.
The tax preparer was responsible for entering all information you provided onto the correct forms, whether you purchased Peace of Mind or not. I have never understood why, after being charged the already exorbitant fees for professional tax preparation they proudly "stand behind" in the first place, that the "Peace of Mind" add-on would even be a necessary additional expense. I'm Still confused about that, and I worked my first season as a "tax pro" there last year. And even though I believe there is some amount of compensation for preparers who sell these extra "protections" at the very end of the tax preparation appointment, I would mention but never "scare-monger" any client into paying those extra expenses, as most of the people I prepared returns for were low income individuals with relatively simple returns. As a client for many years prior to becoming a tax preparer there, I questioned this expense each year when it came up, asking "Well, what am I paying for here if not for the peace of mind that my taxes are being filed by a professional tax preparer backed by a multi-million dollar conglomerate?" If this happened as you described, and you presented the documents and they neglected to report the information, they will have had a record of each document you brought, proving beyond a doubt that what happened to you was Clearly an outrageous mistake on their part. The client signs the return in good faith, which is also Clearly a reasonable assumption on their part. Despicable.
The headline alone made me skip to here. The rest was going to be an old story that still pains me no matter how many times I see it. It doesn't matter if you bought Peace of Mind or not. They will make mistakes, 90% of the time on purpose, because the compensation structure actually favors it. And you'll suffer. I hope this is the last time you'll go there and you have access to either an online tax program that's reputable or VITA, a free tax prep site with conditions. One huge condition to get out of the way: Single: $20, 000, all other filing status: $50, 000. Above that, can't have VITA. Hope you're helped by this.
Hahaha. This comment is so ludicrous and ignorant that I had to laugh. There is no compensation structure that favors making mistakes, let alone at a place like H&R Block where if you deliberately make mistakes on a tax return you are required to pay hefty federal fines, and face disciplinary action up to and including termination. Yes, mistakes happen. Numbers can easily get flipped from a 54 to a 45 for instance, for even a preparer with years and years of experience. But there is nothing deliberate about it, and to suggest otherwise is not just insulting, it's just dumb.

Sorry to inform you of this, but yes, that is their plan. I worked there. Regrettably. I should know. As much money as they can drain from you, regardless if it's downright illegal, 100% will be done. You should look into either doing your taxes yourself, or if you fit the guidelines from the IRS, go to the VITA site of your neighborhood. You'll get taxes done free and professionally, with people like me and of higher caliber actually pulling as much time or more as one would from H&R Block. So you'll have professionals from these high & mighty financial firms volunteering there.
