education credit
H&R Block messed up the education credit section of the tax forms. I paid to have electronic deposit, it's not supposed to take longer than 21 days. I just found out it could be 6 weeks! I don't think I should have to pay electronis filing fees due to their error. I called and they have no plans to reimburse customers their money. I could have mailed it for free if I wanted to wait 6 wks! If nothing is done about my out of pocket fees, I will be moving to another tax preparer. I feel like I have been robbed! They need to make this right.

mistake made consultant
H&r block is the worse ever! I am a 21 year old college student i come out of pocket for most of my school items i work a crapy part time job, so doing taxes comes in handy when money is needed. This was the first and last time i will ever conduct anything with this company. I filed my taxes on feb. 4 2013 i went to 1023 southern blvd apt. 2 bronx, ny 10459, my rep heidy feliz was smy tax consultant, biggest mistake ever! Not only dealing with her but being around a whole bunch of those dumb ### who were as clueless as she was! She messed up 3 times while preping my paper work. As she went to file for my school credit she had the nerve to say i was only getting $31. 00 back, that was including all my recipts i had for my books which i paid almost $500. 00 for. A few days later a classmate of mine informed me that the school credits was not released until feb. 14 2013! So how the hell did she give me any credit if nothing was even avaible!? I went to a different location and explained to them my situation, and come to find out she messed up big time! If i would have never went to double check i would of missed out on a 1, 000 difference for the federal and an extra 200 for the state. I had to have my whole education section amended and now i have to wait 2 months just to recive that money, all because of that ladys hudge lack of knowlegde. How is it that all other tax consultants knew about the credit release date, and no one in the location knew about it? She even aked a manager for help and she replied " ooh your not getting anything back for school". The first half of the money that was processed was excepted on the 15th and i was told i had to wait 21 days for it to go on that expensive ### card they charged me 35$ for ! But yet my best friend went to an h&r block on the 15th to file and she got her money paid in full on feb. 26. 2013 ! And i am still waiting, but ooh today march 4. 2013 i reviced an email saying my state return in on the h&r block debit card when i check they said my full refund was $ 125. 02 when yet on my paper work it says my state return is suppose to be $280. 00 so where the hell is the rest of my money?! There are many of us out there whole are full times students working hard to better our life, full time workers bussing our ### to make sure we have at the end of the day, and full time parents to go hard to provide for our children and then there is a big ### up like this! That puts everything on hold! So yes never again ! This location should be ### the hell down! And all its consultants should be fired because they deff do not know ### about tax polices and wtf their job titles are! Now i have to go back and see what the problem is now! Meaning now i have to wait even longer for my money !

My husband and I went to HR & Block on January 30th (the first day you could file). We completed our return that same day with Diana Howard-Gaines and received an email on January 31st saying that our return had been accepted by the IRS. The preparer (Diana Howard-Gaines) said she put the card in our envelope but when we got home it wasn't there. When we called the store they said the card would come in the mail. We then started to get emails that our refund was on its way, that a card was sent out, that a check was sent out. This was confusing and annoying. I called HR Block and asked them what happened. They told me I should have the card already. I told them I didn't. I called back the next day after I got another email saying my card would be mailed in 7-10 days. Followed by another email saying my money was on my card (Feb 9). So we went to the local store and told them we don't have a card, they said we do. They told us we needed to cancel the card but they couldn't do that for us. Instead they handed us a phone and dialed for us. They cancelled our card and told us one had already been mailed, on January 31st and that it should take 7-10 days to get there. I said it has already been that long. So we went home and waited, checked the mail, again and again. I got a series of conflicting emails from February 13th to the 14th that made me absolutely crazy. Again the emails would come within minutes of each other saying that "your card is on its way", "your card will be mailed shortly", "a check has been mailed". So, I called the 800# again. This time I was told that the issuing of cards had been delayed but that I could go into my local store and get an instant issue card. We did. While the man who was clearly new was trying to issue the card he told the woman who had prepared our taxes, Diana Howard-Gaines that he didn't know how to do it. She waved him on and continued her person call about boiling meat. Eventually he told her he didn't have access. She looked very annoyed put her personal call on hold and walked over to look at his screen. She then said, your logged on as you, thats why. Shen then logged him on as her. My husband said to her if he doesn't have access shouldn't you issue our card? She said he will take care of you and then went back to giving someone a recipe on the phone. When it was all done we were told it would work in 2 to 24 hours to access our money. It didn't. We went back into the store. They said they couldn't help us. We called the 800# on the card. It said our refund had been received from the IRS processed and ready but that the balance on our card was $0.00. I asked the the customer service person (800#) where are money was, she said it was on the card. When I pressed and said it wasn't she put me on hold for 40 minutes to come back on and do the whole who are you drill again. She then told us that when our card was issued, it was done incorrectly that when it was issued at the store it was not "put into the emerald persks side". When I said "this information does not help me, how will you fix this", the answer was "I, umm". Four people in a row the answer was "I'm going to escalate this to a higher level". Some people told me a check had been mailed but after more escalations it was decided that the check was for my state return and that the federal return should be on the card. Each time I asked to talk to a manger. Specifically I wanted to talk to some kind of regional or district manager for the branch that messed everything up in the first place. This never happened. At the end of my call on Saturday I was told the money would be ready and available for withdraw from my card some time in the next 2 to 48 hours. When I pressed for a more specific deadline the woman became very aggressive and said I can't tell you exactly it doesn't work like that. I then said I want you to tell me will it be Monday or Wednesday. Do weekends count? She said "Lady you will get it MONDAY!, but I can't say when on Monday. Monday at 11pm, it hadn't come so I called again. Again 90 minutes of the run around. At some point they parked me on hold so my husband called from another line and he got someone faster. This time he told them not to put us on hold again. Both calls resulted in the same nonsense. We were told the money was not on the card because a check was cut. They don't know why were told the money would be available on the card. We don't know why the local branch issued a card when a check was cut. They didn't know who asked for a check to be cut. They said someone would have more answers if I called back in the morning. I called back at 9am on 9/19, I waited on hold for twenty minutes - no more answers. Same exact thing and still I was not able to talk to a manager. The man I spoke with did consult with his "leader" who did not, would not talk to me. I told him I wanted to know exactly how and when I would get my money. He said you will get it by mail in 7-10 days. I said excuse me, another 7-10 days. Are you kidding me. He said well there was a holiday and you know they don't deliver mail on Sundays. I told him again, I just want to talk to a manger someone with some kind of authority to do something. I asked him who I could call or write to in order to express my dissatisfaction with the entire process. He didn't know, he put me on hold. He then came back after more than ten minutes and said he would open another case for me. Since he spoke the most English of everyone I had encountered I asked him why can't I speak with a manager? Why do I get different information from people at the 800#? Why couldn't the local branch help me? He said "I'm sorry your frustrated". Great, where both sorry but how does that help? He simply replied. The notes in your account are pretty vague. I'm going to open a new case and make more notes for you. Are you kidding me? I'm not sure how he thought this was going to help. I now had four "open cases" that they were "working on". I 'm not sure what that even means. I told him all I wanted the entire time was the name of a specific person with some kind of authority and their direct number so that I could get things resolved. He said I understand and then told me I would receive a survey by email so that I could review his service.
Do not go to HR Block
Do not get an Emerald Card
Do not let Diana Howard-Gaines prepare your taxes!

1 st. Why do people go to places like H&R Block...when you could get your taxes done for a fraction of the cost at a local CPA and get your refund in a couple weeks with e-file. If you do not understand how to fill out tax forms...leave it to some one who does this for a living...not a part-time data entry kid. 2nd...why would someone put a refund on a card. How about a savings account?
oh i hear you! when my son did his taxes h & r said the first set of banking numbers on last years returns were the "correct " numbers so he filed on line himself on Jan, 23. accepted Jan 31 refund approved for ddon feb 4...well it came and went. on the ^th we contacted h&rblock bank and they said that it was an temporary from last year BUT they are linked to his emerald card..sounded fishy to me so we called again..reexpaned again and found out otherwise..the bank rejected it..and now we're waitin on the irs check
software bug caused tax audit
I used HR Block online software to file my 2009 tax return and I got tax audit in 2012 and was charged $100 interest penalty. Although the HR Block accountant who reviewed the situation agreed that this was a software issue, I was told since the problem was discovered more than 60 days after tax filing, HR Block won't be responsible. The worry free guarantee is such a lie.

I filed my taxes with h and r block paid 248.00 not realizing that they are not rapids that was fine .I was told i would receive it the 25 OK the 25 of January has come and gone, called all day-Given5 times to call back. Finally called IRS nothing till Feb how can you give a date against the IRS to rip the customers off my paper work is a Lie am out of money and no refund till another month.
I went to get my taxes done and didn't think I would have to get a loan to pay for the services. 1000.00 back from state and pay 100.plus to Fed. you have the nerve to charge me 249.00 I will make sure to tell everybody I know what a terible rip off this is.I promise you I will never come to you again and I will never forget or to tell othersw about this rip off service.
We used their emerald advance line of credit and when our refund came in we paid it off before 2/15/10 and was charged another finance charge. I tried to dispute this but they said it took 4days to post to our acct but cleared the bank before the due date. They would not help us and refused to take the charge off, so i will not use them again they are rip offs.
Got the run around for the last 4 weeks trying to get my monies from emerald card. They lied to me and more things. I have it all tape/recored. all of it. I need directioning in tis matter. I have two cases filed on this. looks like im fixing to loose everthing! $5000 truck, Rent house, a good job making 100k a year. Was not able to make down payments. currently living with sister. Stressed with no way out. total humiliation!
HR Block charged 195.00 for tax preparation and 32.95 for bank fees. This wasn't even a rapid refund charge. Last year for a rapid refund it was 167.00 and this year for an eZ 1040 is was 195.00. I have been going to HR Block for years but will not go back and will tell family and friends to go to Hewlett Jackson who only charges 58.00 for a ez 1040. What a rip off! Your company should be ashamed.
TAX PREPARER WAS NOT UP TO DATE ABOUT FIRST TIME HOME BUYER CREIDT I HAD TO INFORM HER OF THE CREDIT, DID NOT FILE TAXES CORRECTLY AND APPLY REAL ESTATE TAXES TO REFUND.WAS NOT CORRECTLY INFORMED OF RAL AND HAVING TO WAIT 8-15 PLUS 1 TO DAYS DEPENDING ON BANK AND WE PAID EXTRA 30.00 TO HAVE A DELAY IN RECEVING REFUND.ALSO WAS TOLD THAT THE BANK DOES NOT WORK ON WEEKENDS.I WILL NEVER GO TO HR BLOCK IT IS A COMPLETE RIPOFF
HR Block made a mistake with my Alabama state taxes. I was advised that i wouldn't owe any money to that state in fact, I would be receiving a refund. I received a letter from the department of revenue-Alabama stating otherwise. I paid HR Block 170.00 bucks for their substandard work. If I am successful or not in tat endeavor, I will never return to HR Block again.
i was under stress and frustrated myself i have not received any funds i lost my emerald card somewhere else i believe someone stolen it and spent all my money up
Never ever use these people, what a joke. Got a letter from the irs the day I was supposed to receive my refund. The *** who did my taxes and charged me (low-income) over $400, did not file some of my paper work. When I stopped in the office, I found it was the ***'s first year and he really wasn't qualified to do my taxes. Could I come back in one hour. I did that, and the agent was busy and told me to come back in another hour, (guess they can't use a phone) at 9 p.m.! I wonder do they pay for mileage! Would have been nice to know the first time that the guy was a newbie. The prices these people charge are unreal and the agents are not very knowledgeable, don't waste your money or time.
either way I find this interesting...lol...h&r and jackson hewett are charging all their customers too much. i worked there and quit because the big dogs got pissed when customers decided not to file with the company. and most all the service is people off the streets that they train for 3 days to use the computer, and the computer does all the work...just saying. i go to a real cpa and pay less than that for our complicated returns every year. and the added bonus is, that if the irs finds a mistake or questions anything, at least i got someone who knows what they are doing taking care of it for me. google complaints on both. you will be surprised.
like i said really either way, i dont care what yall do...just some useful info.
their gurarantee is not fulfilled
we had our taxes filled out by h&r block in Winnfield Louisiana, and they said we owed over 1200 dollars in federal tax and over 300 dollars in state, so we went and borrowed the monies, then last year which is 2011 taxes we had a lot more taxes held out of our taxes so when we went back to have h&r block fill out our taxes again they said it was over 1500 dollars we owed so we told them no we were not going with that and we went somewhere else and got our taxes filled out, come to find out we were refunded over 650 dollars in federal and 250 dollars and in state, so they then checked the last year taxes we paid in and we found out we were due a refund about 2000 dollars worth in federal and state, so when I called the winnfield office back about the guarantee, for the monies in interested we borrowed and try to get the monies we paid them we were told that the guarantee wasn't for that, so were are out of all that money to, needless to say I WILL NEVER USE HR BLOCK EVER AGAIN AND WILL ADVISE ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY NOT TO USE THEM ALSO
I meant Lorri Atkins as the complaint name

FYI Brenda, "Maximum Refund Guarantee: Get the maximum refund you're entitled to, or your tax preparation is free." I see this on the website, but in TPS they dropped the "or your tax preparation is free." part.
employee interaction
I went by H&R block to inquiry about a possible tax deduction, I drove by the first time it was early. No signs about hours. So since we were in town, I decided to come back a little later. I opened the door, walked in the lights were off, and I called out, no answer. I called on the telephone only to get a message that we were open the 3rd of January for tax season. Again no hours. I was concerned, disturbed about me able to open the door, and walk right in and nobody being there and everybody's information was at risk. I called the police as it was unsecure. When I inquired about it on Monday, as this incident happened Saturday, I talked to an employee who works there. She informed me that the police had notified them, the cabinets were locked. Individual keys. Even though door was unlocked, the cabinets were locked. I felt she had become defensive, and when I mentioned this, she told me that I was, and that I could see the keys if I wanted to. It was esculating. Instead of just saying I apolize and that we try and make sure all the doors are locked when we leave and that the cabinets are secure. She stated about those keys and me seeing them and that she worked there 35 years. I understand that mistakes happen, I felt she was very inappropriate. Then when she asked me about what she could help me with, I had just started asking about the possible deduction, she then popped off that obviously I wasn't happy, and that I could go to Hopkinsville, Murray or somewhere else. I stated you are not listening to me. Again about the door, it finally ended with I just happen to go there at that time, how to I know this is the first time the door was left unlocked. So at this point I will not do any more business with H&R block, and will seek to find another tax individual. TOTAL LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PROFESSIONALISM.

On October 2012 a 55 year old friend of mind started H&R’s Certified Tax Course of which she paid $150.00 to take. She has an Associate Degree in Accounting, 25 years of running a business and payroll that her and her Ex-husband had started. that was Building Houses before the housing Market collapsed. So she has experience. All went well with the course and she passed. She was offered a position and scheduled to start early December 2012 with paid training. She only needed to pass a urine test and background check. She passed the urine test but a problem occurred. She did not pass the background check. She was then e-mailed do not report for the job. Also she never got her Certification. It took threats in order to get a letter that indicated she passed her course and three weeks after continuous calling to get her paid Certification document.
That background Check was done by a contractor LexisNexis, the contractor who does background checks for employers and is located in Georgia. LexisNexis indicated she had Misdemeanors 4 years ago for; disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and bail jumping. These charges where related to one incident. That incident was a fight with her then boyfriend, getting drunk, and breaking a door. She paid for the door; the boyfriend never persuaded the case. The complaint was dismissed but read into the record. That was Four years ago and never happened before and never since.
A little problem is, the contractor, did not indicate the complaint was dismissed but read into the record to the Employer H&R Block. Her Friend had then notified H&R Block that this was a Dismissed and the action was 4 years ago and has nothing to do with doing taxes. They have not bothered to contact this woman nor apologize nor resin their rejected offer of Employment.
I would like to know what getting drunk and breaking a door 4 years ago has to do with doing taxes. I personally would not even consider dealing with this company, and would tell them to get a new contractor. Thank you

I have been going to the same woman named Arlene at H&RBlock for ten years she told me jan31st 2011 when i had my taxes done i would have my state by the end of the week and federal the week after that 3 weeks later now i have nothing now every week i call her she says ooo next week oooo next week for sure ooooo ok ok next week has to be i have never waited longer than a week for my taxes she is not informative at all will never go back to H&R Block again and never to her again thanks alot Arlene thanks for nothing
It's not her age that is the problem. It's her criminal record.
Maybe she can hire a lawyer and see if she can have her record expunged.
incorrect tax return filed
A tax return for a partnership was improperly filed as a corporation and when the franchise tax board informed me that a new return was needed to correct the improper filing I immediately contacted a preparer, Terry Moore, at the Wilshire Blvd and Highland office in Los Angeles, first with an appointment then a phone call where he said he would call back, never did then email and text messages with no response.
. I also left a message for his boss, Ilene Brown and again no response.
I am very disappointed with this company and now have to hire another tax preparer to correct the mistakes made by H&R Block
I will not recommend this company
Jerry
Jerry, unfortunately most employees at Block are ill prepared to prep partnership
returns. I suggest you seek out a local Enrolled Agent or CPA. Good Luck!
i have had three different stories about when I am getting back my money
I signed up for a course in income tax on August 6 2012 with H & R Block class was scheduled to begin August 28, 2012. On August 27, 2012 I received a call from H & R Block saying that as of Saturday August 25, 2012 they canceled the class due to lack of students. I sent them a deposit of $25. on August 6, 2012. I have since been trying to receive my money back. I have had three different stories about when I am getting back my money.
First time I was told it would be 7 to 10 days. Next time I was told that there was no request for refund and it would take another 7 to 10 days. Now today they are talking about 30 days. This is unacceptable to me, I gave them my money in good faith, I am on a fixed income and $25. is a lot of money to me. I want my money.
Did you pay by credit or debit card?
If so, contact the card issuer and get a refund.
If you paid by cash or check, contact the District Manager directly and
explain the situation to him/her.
too much in fees
I cannot believe my stupidity for going to H&R Block. I ran out of time to file my taxes and went to them. Issues: Guy acted like he did not know what he was doing. Claims he has 600 hours in accounting but, no CPA degree, fired from the post office, ect. I could not believe w/ Itemized Deductions which were only 4 -- simple straight return, no Captiol Gains nor anything Special the fee was $317.00! I have always filed my taxes myself and will not be stupid enough to do this again next year. Don't know about anyone else but $317.00 is alot of money, there goes my overtime I worked this year. I am dreading whether anything w/ IRS or STATE was correct at this point, I just pray they filed correctly. Concerns me as well -- guy kept my check for the $317.00 altho said I would get it back -- something about electronic into my account -- something else I will have to check on. IRS IS NO LONGER USER FRIENDLY -- I DO NOT HAVE HOURS TO READ ALL THEIR CRAP AND NOW THIS W/ H&R Block -- $317.00 for a simple itemized return -- geesh I thought doctors were expensive but the just takes the cake!

I filed my taxes today at H&R Block and they charged me $280 just to put information in on the computer and they prices are outrageous what they charge customers just to do income taxes you can get your taxes done cheaper somewhere else then H&R Block this will be the last year that I get my taxes done at H&R Block because they're doing nothing but ripping customers off.
If you thought 2012 was bad, wait till you see what is coming.
The U.S. tax code exceeds 5.6 million words.
My advice is start reading, take the IRS exam and then get back to me on
whether $317 is too much to charge.
Don't be mislead into thinking that all CPAs are tax experts, they most certainly
are not. CPAs are experts in preparing corporate financial statements.
Some CPAs become competent in taxation, but rather than roll the dice and hope you get one that knows what is going on, save yourself some time and get an Enrolled Agent. Enrolled Agents pass an IRS test (CPAs do not) and they are allowed to represent you in front of the IRS. Good Luck!
incorrect info put in by tax parparer
My peace of mind turned into peace of nightmare when I went to hr block to have taxes done. Taxes done on 03/27/2012. We waited 45mins to 1hr pat our appt time to even start the taxes. We were charged $268.30 + $30.00 for peace of mind for a total of $298.30. Refund was filed, to be in account by 04/09/2012. Never happened. Looked on IRS site, showed it would by 6 wks by mail, n state tax will be 6-12wks by mail. I made 5 calls, 1 facebook compliant, only to have an office manger laugh n think it was funny, 1 call back to me by fb compliant, given a case number n told would get a call back in 3-5 days. This was the tax parparers mistake, not mine, n there peace of mind I found out also covers their mistakes as well as if your aduited. Was told I should get 1/2 to all of my fee I paid refund too. We will see...Used hr block 7 yrs ago, charged a high fee n for the last 7 yrs used a CPA, never had a problem. Moved to new Mexico n decided to give hr block another chance, both what a bigggg mistake that was..now I am having peace of nightmer instead of peace of mind...
i filled hrblock an was approved 1-2 day stil day 8 no refund i want to sue
fraud
Someone else has access to my emerald card. It is being used somehow. There are transactions that I did not do. How does someone else get access to my card. I am the only one who has ever used or even seen my card. It has never been out of my possession.
Marco, open a bank account and have your refunds direct deposited from now on.
That is the safest way to get your refund. Good Luck!
H&R Block Emerald card--- I receivied a letter in the mail, which turns out to be a statement. Someone got a emerald card in my name, and took out a cash advance of $400.00, so I called the bank number listed on the statement, it just rang and rang then turned into a busy signal, after contacting the toll free number, I told the gentleman on the other end my problem, some (using my id), applied for a card in my name, and took out a cash advance for $400.00, dollars, he told me I could make payments, shocked I told him I anit paying jack, and lets take it to court, he put me in touch with the bank, some dizzy woman told me, this never happened before, I told her I was not going to pay jack, and if they did not clear this up I was going to raise hell. She took my info, then told me to claim down she had her car stolen, sympathies I told her, but your insurance will take of it, not my problem. I am still getting letters thanking me for using their service, I am still not paying jack, I do believe H&R Block is the cause for my identity theft, someone jacked me for my refund, and now I have to wait for the IRS, sort it out, so I get my check, H&R Block, is truly a scam, I wonder how many others have gone through this, its a scam.
Unfortunately, in our modern society thieves can gain access to your credit and
debit cards. There are various methods. My advice is for you to withdraw all remaining
funds from your Emerald card and file a dispute over the charges you did not
authorize. Good Luck.
overcharge, customer service
I am an American living in the Netherlands. I have used the 2020 K St. NW Washington DC H&R Block to file my taxes for a few years, mainly online, but recently through a tax agent in the office. I am very unhappy with the service I received from the H&R Block tax agent and office manager of the 2020 K St. NW Washington DC office, Alfred Pinkett. It has taken over 2 months to file Federal and State tax returns, and the charges totaled $435.
I filed a complaint with H&R Block on March 18, 2012. I am also dissatisfied with the duration of the complaint investigation and results of the complaint process with H&R Block. It has taken over 3 weeks to come to "resolution." Further, I have no confidence my taxes have been done correctly nor any assurance they were reviewed by anyone other than Mr. Pinkett. Most amazing still, I must continue working with Mr. Pinkett to ensure my taxes are actually filed electronically.
Every aspect of this business transaction demonstrated negligence by H&R Block - from the first 2 weeks of Mr. Pinkett becoming my tax agent to "resolution" authorized by the district manager. No reason was provided to me. Over the past 2 months, Mr. Pinkett has been unresponsive, made errors in my tax returns, and did not provide information that I requested. He yelled at me over the phone when I questioned why it took over 2 months. It has taken H&R Block complaints department almost 3 weeks to have resolution to my official complaint (filed March 18, 2012), and the only resolution was a $100 coupon that the offending agent was responsible to enter into the system on my behalf (and still has not been applied to my account). I have no idea what other actions resulted from my complaint, if any.
I have documented every step of the business between Alfred Pinkett and myself through emails. I sent all those emails to Alfred Pinkett's district manager. The emails show I gave all the required tax information to Mr. Pinkett to file my taxes in the first week of February 2012; yet my taxes have were not completed until March 18, 2012 - and not filed as of April 7, 2012 because H&R Block did not resolve the matter in a timely fashion.
H&R Block 2020 K St. NW Washington DC 20006 should be ashamed that this happened and how it was handled, both by the tax agent in charge and the resolution department.
H&R Block should refund/negate the full cost of filing my taxes.
That is rude. but I think I got one to top it. My husband went into an H&R Block office yesterday, (Monday, January 21st 2013) while he gave the tax "professional" our information she called him a cradle robber. My husband and I just got married in may of 2012 after 3 years of dating. We are in love. sure there is a significant age difference. but I was over the age of 18 when we started dating and obviously over the age of 18 when we got married. he didn't rob me of any innocence that I had not lost years prior. Also neither of us have credit or money so he is not my sugar daddy. he is my husband. I looked online and 99% of all references out there refer cradle robber to pedophiles. IM OUTRAGED! THEY UNLEASHED THE WRONG "GRAVE ROBBER" AS THEY WOULD ASSUME ME TO BE!
Does anyone know of any laws that were violated in this situation? I really hope there is because I want to sue. I want to get that employee fired. Along with a whole list of other stuff that I don't think would be a good idea to reference in writing with my I.P. stamp referenced on logs.
incompotance
They told me I would see my refund in 2-3week, now they tell me after 3 weeks I will not see it for another month! I'm pissed

I just found out that my 2018 tax returns were never filed. I've been on hold for 1.5 hours. I am not getting my stimulus check because of their error. The IRS sent me a letter that all money had been paid but nothing had been filed. Awesome. They suck!

misinformation, delay, failure
H&R Block advertises on their website - no need for a second visit, come in with your taxes and walk out with your refund. This is simply not true. We went to the office 6 times over a period of 12 days for a very simple tax refund (1 person working, 1 TE slip, 7 transit passes and 1 receipt for child allowance). In the end we were told they could not offer us the instant refund.
Visit 1: Nowhere on the H&R Block website does it say you need an appointment. On Thursday we were told to come back for a Saturday appointment.
Visit 2: Return done simply and quickly. My wife did not work and I was told she did not need to file a return. I was told to come back Tuesday for the refund cheque. I asked them to call me if there was any problem to save me the trip.
Visit 3: I return Tuesday to be told there was no refund cheque. They had not called me so I made another trip for nothing. I said we would return Thursday.
Visit 4: I am called to say that head office requires my wife to file a tax return in order to qualify for the instant refund. We go to the office and my wife signs a form saying they can complete the tax papers. They are unable to at this moment so she will need to return the next day. (1 week has already passed since my original visit).
Visit 5: My wife signs the completed return and is told our refund will be available on the following Monday.
Visit 6: 12 days after the original visit. I go to the office after work to be told that we do not qualify for the instant refund because my wife has never filed a tax return in Canada. Of course she hasn't - she immigrated to Canada in 2011.
We are now filing the return ourselves. Thank you H&R Block for wasting 12 days of our time and requiring 6 visits to your office to be told something we should have been told on day 1. New immigrants to Canada: H&R Block discriminates against you with their instant refund policy.
Dear H&R Block,
Thank you for your email - however it has been 18 days since your email and no one has contacted me "within 2 business days".
In addition it has been brought to my attention that not all my documentation was returned by your citi plaza office. I am still missing a copy of my T4.
I am so sad that I wasted time with your company, and will not be able to recommend you to anyone in the future.
Yours in very great disappointment,
Warren Laine-Naida

tax return
How can HR block give someone an anticipation date on our tax return. I filed on the Febuary 4th and was told anticipation date of the 15th, and the money will be put on my emerald card, well today is the 16th and still no money. I called them and they blame it on the IRS. I paid 163.00 dollars to have it in 7 to 10 days just like they advertised. I asked them if they new what aticipation means (except, forsee, look forword to, await, wait for predict) and they still plan it on the IRS. So I called IRS, cousre I can only get automated, they state Febuary 28th. I will never use HR Block again.

I think alot of the Agents were let go in an attempt to downsize the Fed. It seems to be taking longer each year to get a refund if your owed money. It's amazing how fast they'd come luck your butt up if you didn't pay if you owed them.
ripped off
I did my taxes online using H&R Block as my tax service. Unfortunately I made a mistake, and their program did not catch it until AFTER I had submitted it to be reviewed by a real person. I also forgot to add a deduction. I asked if I could get back into my tax return to make changes and I was told I COULD NOT! but they had no problem whacking my credit card ASAP!
So, now my tax return is not correct, it's paid for and I can't make changes to it until or unless I accept the reviwer having approved it AS IS.
HOW IS THAT FAIR? I have used Turbo Tax in the past, and you can go back as many times as you want to make changes NO PROBLEM and you don't pay until everything is 100% right.
THIS IS A RIP OFF! now I will either have to file my taxes AS IS and ALSO file an amendment, or send them in wrong without all my deductions, OR pay ANOTHER person or service AGAIN.
I was told by this woman that it was TOO STRESSFUL for her to continue? DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE about them!
What mistake did you make that the software failed to catch?
once you hit the submit button you are not able to make changes in that system. you have to file an Amended Return to correct the mistakes you approved by hitting submit.
you're better off preparing your taxes yourself
I used them several years ago and they cost me $1000 in an IRS penalty for filing late. My "tax preparer" refused to file my taxes electronically without my paying what I owed. She said she simply could not do it. I asked her for a hard copy of my tax return so I could mail it in. She said it was sent. Weeks later I still hadn't received it and sent a message through their online communication system. No response. Sent another. No response. Sent another message. No response. I finally printed my return copy from the site that read "Do Not File" and sent it to the IRS with my W-2s and a letter of explanation. The IRS did a cursory investigation after I had sent copies of the email communications with one of their service reps. They had since deleted my account where it was documented how many times I made an inquiry. They also had the nerve to send me a COUPON for $50.00 off of their services! Like I would use that dump ever again.

Unfortunately the IRS experienced delays this year.
no communication
We Went through H and B block for out taxes this year as we have done the past 5 years. You get back more money this way than you do when you file yourself or online. We have done both ways to test it and its roughly a 2000 dollar difference so its worth the 300 dollar fee. We knew there were no refund loans to get it quicker allowed. They did away with these last year. The fact is the irs had a major glitch and now the refunds everyone was expecting on the 25th will be here anytime between the 27th and the 7th of february. This no fault of H and R block. I can be fully understanding over that! What I don't understand is why they did not bother to send an email, or a phone call or even a letter in the mail to inform the customers of the delay. Instead we have to troll the internet to find out why it's late. For 300 dollars I expect at least that little bit of communication.

You paid H&R Block for the preparation. They did not charge you extra to file electronically.
The 21 day number that people keep throwing around is an estimate from the IRS.
The IRS does not guarantee you will get a refund at all, much less within 21 days.
On the other hand, H&R Block did have a problem with their software this year. Lawsuits
will undoubtedly be filed and rightly so. I suspect the TPTB are not real worried about you running to the competition, although they should be worried. Good Luck!
The law firm of Berger & Montague, P.C., located in Philadelphia PA, is currently investigating a possible class action suit against H&R Block Inc. in connection with H&R Block’s announcement of the delay of refunds for tax returns that included a Form 8863, which allows a taxpayer to reclaim 100% of the first $2, 000 in eligible student expenses and 25% of each dollar of eligible student expenses thereafter.
Previously the eligibility line of Form 8863 could be left blank and still indicate to the IRS that the taxpayer qualified for the student tax credit. Starting with the 2012 tax year, the IRS began to require that an “n” be entered in the eligibility line to indicate qualification. However, Form 8863 in H&R Block’s tax software continued to permit the line to be left blank, which has resulted in the delay of thousands of refunds.
