We bought a 20 cubic foot LG refrigerator LCTS20020 2/4/21 for $550. We bought it at what LG classified as a non-LG certified dealer because we couldn’t find another refrigerator within 100 miles that had one in stock for the next month and our prior refrigerator of decades finally broke.
The freezer stopped distributing cold air throughout the freezer which LG said was due to the fan not working when they diagnosed the issue remotely. Initially, LG said they could repair it if we provided a receipt on the purchase but they later said they won’t since it was bought at a non-LG certified dealer. We did executive escalations and they blew us off saying it was our problem. We did executive escalations again and they said they would reevaluate their decision and get back to us in 3-7 days which they did not do. They indicated they would get back to us if/when they feel like it which could be never. LG has the worst customer service and if you look at the BBB site you can see tons of others with similar issues which LG mostly never resolves. I even saw online that LG told a customer that they don’t make refrigerators that last past the warranty.
We had to throw out a bunch of expensive food since it defrosted. The button to adjust the temperature on the fridge part does not move. We also keep expensive medicine in the fridge which I now have little confidence in. Sadly we recommended it to a friend and I suspect he may have similar issues. Two videos re ‘Fridge failures: Federal lawsuit cites LG refrigerator issue’ posted in 2024 had nearly 15,000 comments/complaints.
We are now out about $500 for food that spoiled in the refrigerator and we have spent over $200 so far in food for meals out since our fridge does not work. A family member has cancer and we need to keep her expensive critical cancer medicine in a neighbor’s fridge since ours does not work. LG all the way up to many top executives know all this from my complaints to them and they don’t care.
Document all communications with LG and escalate to consumer protection agencies or small claims court, emphasizing the critical medical need. Seek immediate fridge alternatives or rental options for medicine. Consider legal action or joining ongoing lawsuits targeting LG’s fridge failures.
